[The Collection's location is not marked on any of the floorplans of the academy, unless there is a more complete version in the Canterlot Archives.
It has to be hidden in the sub-basements as the upper levels simply do not contain spaces large enough to hide it.
It could be linked to the Proving Halls, Underhalls or Catacombs, though the latter is unlikely due to the sacred nature of the catacombs themselves, and the risks involved.
I have yet to ever see the Proving Halls or Underhalls, but reaching the Dungeon is easy enough, and it should contain entrances to both.
There are unused marginal spaces in the ceiling structures and inside some walls left over from construction. These have proven invaluable for avoiding detection.
Stories mention the Dead Guardian watches over the Collection. This probably refers to the body of Highflanks.]>>360025
Very respectful and proper.
The Headmaster's office is a veritable collection of curiosities and trinkets. The headmaster himself is an older pony with a long wispy beard on his chin and a sharp, almost piercing look in his eyes

"Yes. Just got a little… distracted is all. Didn't look where I was going.">>360029
