Crypt Quest 2 Campfire 420222[Last 50 Posts]

The party stands inside the government district outside of a bank after cashing their checks. Four guards stand by the doors to make sure that the party does not reenter while the safe clean up the mess made by Bessy's party cannon. Crowds of ponies, donkeys, and ostriches move up and down the streets on their way to work. It is not yet noon, and the party has the day to do with what they wish.

Payment/loot for the mansion job:
Dreamkicker: 200 marks, old gold ring meant to be worn at base of tail, book about vampires, magic skilbook, basic magic weapon
Brutus: Crumbled buffalo sized helmet that causes visions when touched, book of poetry written by a knight, basic magic weapons
Pomelo: 200 marks, basic magic weapon
Andelia: Old club made of dark wood that causes visions when touched, basic magic weapon
Happyhorn: 50 marks, orange unicorn horn that causes visions when touched, old silk ceremonial Inquisitor minotaur outfit, basic magic weapon
Olga: 200 marks, free minion, basic magic weapon
Muddy Morass: 200 marks, basic magic weapon
Bessy: 200 marks, party cannon
Correct me if I forgot anything.

Olga [Lifebinder] 420223

>basic magic weapon

What choice do I have?

I'd like it to be a ring to add onto my staff.

andelia [druid] 420224

>>420222
Looks fine to me

Campfire 420225

>>420223
That works. Basically they have a simple enchant enchantment that lets them do damage to ethereal enemies like ghosts and elementals.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420226

The entire day?
Neat!

"Hey Pommy, what should we do?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 420227

>>420222
I stretch and shake off a bit of my sleepiness.
"Well, what now? Do we go find more baddies to whack? Or should we take a little shopping trip?"

Olga [Lifebinder] 420228

>>420226
>>420227
"My hooves are tired! I will be… sitting along benches if you want to go shopping. Hornbeard, why don't you follow them?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 420229

>>420227
"I dunno about you, but another bath after all that sounds great."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420230

>>420222
You forgot Pommy's hat~

>>420226
"I don't know how much 200 marks is going to take us, particularly if we plan on fighting whatever it is that is harming this city.

"We might need to find more money."

>>420228
>>420229
"It's no time for naps and baths. You're worse than lazy undergraduates."

Andelia [druid] 420231

>>420227
I smile "well who knows what other trouble there might be. We can ask around town if you want to find more baddies."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420232

>>420222
>>420230
>hat
ALSO Bessy's 10/10 hat too!

>>420227
>>420230
"So we should go look for more work?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 420233

>>420230
"What, didn't you learn anything about personal hygiene in those fancy learnings of yours? Gross."

Pomelo [Preacher] 420234

>>420230
"Well we have three of us each with however many marks we got, so that's…"
I move my hooves in the dirt, lightly writing out math equations
"That's this many!" I hold up two hooves in the air.

>>420231
"Oh, good idea! But what if we ask a bad guy? There's no way he'd tell us to beat his butt!"

Andelia [druid] 420235

>>420230
"We might not get many jobs if we're dirty. A bath would be okay."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420236

>>420235
>>420233
"Fine. Baths. A quick one at someplace small that won't recognize us and throw us out."

>>420234
I check his math. Is it right?

Campfire 420237

>>420228
"Are you sure, mistress Olga? If something happens I won't be here to help you."

Andelia [druid] 420238

>>420234
"Pommy be careful not to trip. But I think we will know if its a bad guy or not."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 420239

>>420236
"Hey, there's hope for you yet!"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420240

>>420234
"Silly Pommy!"
I start hopping around, telling him the math in a sing song voice.
"200 is just 2 with two zeroes after it! And 2 plus 2 plus 2, or 2 times the 3 of us, is 6! So all together we have 600 marks!"

Pomelo [Preacher] 420241

>>420236
"I dunno… I don't want any more mean mares to throw us out again! Besides, I don't wanna go back there without proper materials."
I wink my eyes in an obvious manner

>>420238
"Alright, I knew you had a good eye Andy!"

Pomelo [Preacher] 420242

>>420240
I hop around with her
"Haha yeah! That's exactly what I said Bessy! Thanks for singing out for the rest of 'em."
Big bro hug on Bessy!

Olga [Lifebinder] 420243

>>420230
"Not like the damned Inquisitors want anything to do with us now!"

>>420237
"It's fine. Go out and explore the world as it is a bit!"

Campfire 420244

>>420243
"O-okay."
He looks carefully at the party before moving closer to Andelia.

Andelia [druid] 420245

>>420243
"If you're tired maybe we should find a place for you to lay down. Are you still feeling weak from the mansion?"

Andelia [druid] 420246

>>420244
I smile at him. "Don't worry too much, Olga is tougher than she let's on."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420247

"Baths first, and then we go find work, okay?"

Stop a passerby and ask where the nearest bath is.

Pomelo [Preacher] 420248

>>420247
I grumble
"If any meanie mares lay hooves on me this time I'll never take another bath with you ever again… this week."

Campfire 420249

>>420247
She looks down her nose at you.
"A group of beggars looking for a bath? Have I walked into a joke? Try the residential district. I doubt the people at the city's public bath would let you in."
She huffs and walks away.

Olga [Lifebinder] 420250

>>420245
"I am not! I just… need a rest, is all."

Lean a bit more on my staff.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420251

>>420247
"Waaaait! We'll be right back!"
I grab Pomelo and toss him up on my back then go darting off towards the nearest bath store.

Roll #1 10 = 10

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420252

>>420248
I smirk a little.

>>420249
I scowl. "Maybe we really do need baths."

Go to the residential district and go into the first bath we can find.

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 420253

>>420249
"Man, is everyone in this town a snob?"

>>420250
"Whoa, you okay, crazy?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 420254

>>420251
"Woohoo!"
I hold on tight!

Andelia [druid] 420255

>>420250
I mix up a natural remedy. "Don't be shy about your needs." '1d10+2'

Roll #1 6 + 2 = 8

Campfire 420256

>>420250
Hornbeard looks at you, worried.

>>420251
>>420254
You find a card on the ground from Bob's baths, located in the market district. You doubt that the city's government district would have many shops in it.

>>420252
You leave the party and the government district. After passing many stone houses you see a wide, plain building whose signage indicates that it is a bathhouse. However, you also remember that the city has a large, free bathhouse elsewhere in the Residential district.

>>420255
The remedy is mixed, but it will not keep for very long.

Olga [Lifebinder] 420257

>>420255
>>420256
Take it and drink.

"Thank you child. I'm not as young as I used to be! Those inquisitors don't know what they're dealing with, I'll tell you that. Get ready to go back in…"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420258

>>420256
Go to the big free one and wait for Bessy and Pomelo.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420259

>>420256
I head over to that store!

Andelia [druid] 420260

>>420256
"Here you should try thus ogla, it should make you feel better." I hand the remedy to her. And go after the others

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 420261

>>420256
I'll head for the large one as well.

Andelia [druid] 420262

>>420257
"We will be ready."

Pomelo [Preacher] 420263

>>420256
Well… look around on the way there. Any stores that look like they'd sell any kind of bath items with enchantments? '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Campfire 420264

>>420257
You feel your tiredness leaving you.

>>420258
You go back to the city's historical baths and wait in the plaza as creature's of all sorts come and go, talking and laughing with each other. After several minutes Happyhorn and Brutus are the only ones to show up.

>>420263
You see a few shops dedicated to bath supplies, but non of them look like what you are looking for. Soon, both of you arrive.

>>420259
You leave the government and it's tall spires behind as you enter the residential district. Before long you have passed it's tightly packed, multifaimily building's behind and entered the hustle and bustle of the merchant's district. All sorts of creatures in all manners of dress, or lack thereof, quickly come and go. You ignore them, them various shops, and the various people calling out over the noise of the city to advertise for a shop or a service. Before long you arrive at a large building with a big sign on top. The foreign words are written in the local language, but they are made of giant soap bubbles. Underneath, in small letters, it says Bob's Baths.

>>420260
With Dreamkicker and Happyhorn, or with Bessy and Pomelo?

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420265

>>420264
I hop inside!
"I need the most potent bath salts you have!"

Andelia 420266

>>420264
I better follow bessy and pomelo.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420267

>>420264
Wait outside.

Any wanted posters or help wanted notices or anything?

Olga [Lifebinder] 420268

>>420264
Ah, never mind.

Any shops selling religious or spiritual good around? I could use some incense.

Pomelo [Preacher] 420269

>>420265
"Wait, salt! We're not cookin nothin Bessy! We need SUDS. Bubble bath mix and all that!"

Andelia [Druid] 420270

>>420265
>>420269
"wait, last time you brought bubbles into the bath you were kicked out! Just buy soap."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420271

>>420269
"Ooooh, duh! That's right! Thanks Pommy!"

>>420270
"But… but…"
I whimper at her and give her puppy dog eyes.

Andelia [Druid] 420272

>>420271
I shake my head "Bessy, we can't cause more trouble in this city."

Pomelo [Preacher] 420273

>>420270
"We didn't even bring any in! We prayed for em! But there wasn't nearly enough…"

>>420272
I whimper at her too.
"Pleeeease Andy? We won't get kicked out of anything! There's always whatever private baths at whatever inn we stay at!"

Andelia [Druid] 420274

>>420273
I sigh giving way under the double puppy dog eyes "Alright.. but you two better not get kicked out of anything."

Campfire 420275

>>420266
You join them in the store.

>>420265
A donkey steps out from behind a counter.
"Follow me miss, and tell me what sort of potency you are looking for."
He starts leading you, Pomelo, and Andelia through the large, aromatic store.

>>420266
"Bubble bath? we have all sorts. Tell me what kinds of colors, scents, and bubble sizes you want and I will find them for you."

>>420268
Not in the government district, but you've got the feeling that you can find all sorts of shops in the merchant's district.

>>420267
There is a largeish board covered in bills near the entrances to the two bathhouses.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420276

>>420275
Look at the board. Anything interesting?
'1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Pomelo [Preacher] 420277

>>420275
"Oh oh! Bath Bubbles! Lots of bubbles! Bubbles that make more bubbles until the whole place is like covered in bubbles!"
I spread my arms out for emphasis

Andelia [Druid] 420278

>>420275
I keep a sharp eye out, these salemen might be cons. '1d10' to notice anything odd about them

Roll #1 1 = 1

Olga [Lifebinder] 420279

>>420275
"Going to see the merchant's district. You kids be good!"

And go off there.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420280

>>420275
>>420277
"Yeah! The biggest bubbles you can make!"

Campfire 420281

>>420276
You see a bill that was posted by the local farmer's council asking for aid with a pest control problem; the reward for this is unusually large. There is a help wanted ad asking for "discreet individuals wanting to advance the fields of science and magic" that was posted by a Doctor Frank Intense. The reward for this one seems a bit small. There is an add asking for adventurers to gather and discuss ways to combat the vampire menace. The reward for this one is moderate.

>>420277
>>420280
"Follow me."
He leads you past a few isles then down one and waves at a pegasus employee flying overhead before pointing at something on a top shelf. She grabs it and drops it into his grasp. he then leads you all to a small basin full of water in the middle of a sloped, tile floor.
"Observe."
He drips a single drop into the water, and it is soon full of bubble the size of a foal. These multiply and spread until they have covered a good portion of the tile floor.
"Interested? The law requires me to warn you that these are not to be used around children, or by children, or by those with the minds of children."

>>420278
You are certain that this must be the nest of vampires that are plaguing the city. The bath soaps and other scents here must be masking the smell of blood and death.

>>420279
You see several different shops in the merchants district that might meet your needs. Some cater to specific dieties while others are more general in what they stock.

Pomelo [Preacher] 420282

>>420281
I hop up and down and clap my hooves
"Yesyesyesyesyes! This is perfect for responsible adults like us! How much?"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420283

>>420281
I gasp in amazement.
"We'll take them! We'll take theeeem!"
I hop up and down with Pomelo.
"Yeah! How much?"

Andelia [Druid] 420284

>>420281
I look frightened of the bubble and the salepony "What's dangerous about the bubbles?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420285

>>420281
Take the bills and put them in my saddlebag.

Olga [Lifebinder] 420286

>>420281
Deities… we must here ward off the Night Herald, so…

Look for some Celestia relating things.

Campfire 420287

>>420282
>>420283
"Fifty marks for the bottle."
He shows it to you. It's the size of Pomelo's hoof.

>>420284
"There have been…incidents of goat kids and ostrich chicks getting caught in the bubbles and either suffocating or floating away. It's a safe product so long as it's used responsibly. Oh, and don't drink it. You wouldn't think I would have to tell anyone this, but I do."

>>420285
You place the three job bills in your saddlebag. Bessy, Pomelo, and Andelia are still not here.

>>420286
Oddly enough, there are no Celestia dedicated shops here. There are plenty of shops selling items that will allow you to praise the sun though.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420288

>>420287
Read a bit from that book about magic.
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Olga [Lifebinder] 420289

>>420287
Sure. The sun must ward off the night.

What are available? Any… torches?

Andelia [Druid] 420290

>>420287
I frown "I think you should get something safer.. you have something that can make a lot of bubbles, but isn't so risky right?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 420291

>>420287
"Hmm… ya sure you want 50 marks for it? You suuuure you don't want some of that payment in song?"
Can the noncombat effect of inspire get me a slightly better price? Whip out my instrument and play a song '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

Campfire 420292

>>420288
You make it through a few pages, but reading outside is difficult. Life as a professor has spoiled you.

>>420289
There are plenty of sun shops selling holy torches. You've got traditional wooden torches, more modern metal ones that are renewable, and even magical ones that shine with sunlight instead of firelight.

>>420290
"Like I said, madam, they are perfectly safe if used responsibly."

>>420291
You sing a song about how much you love bathtime. He smiles.
"Tell you want. I can knock the price down to forty marks, but no lower. This stuff isn't very common."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420293

>>420292
Any food vendors nearby?

Pomelo [Preacher] 420294

>>420292
"SOLD THANK YOU COME AGAIN!"
Buy it!

"Come on Bessy! Let's go find Dreamy!"

Andelia [Druid] 420295

>>420292
I shift uncomfortably "Right.. can we leave now?" '1d10' note where the doors and windows are.

Roll #1 6 = 6

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420296

>>420292
"We'll take it!"
I pony up 40 marks and buy a bottle of the stuff with a great big excited buffalo smile.

>>420294
Or not!
"Thanks for the bath bubbles!"
I head out with Pomelo to find DK!

Muddy Morass 420297

>>420292
Where are we?

Olga [Lifebinder] 420298

>>420292
Sunlight… yes.

"How much for a bit of sunshine for a pilgrim seeking salvation, shopkeeper?"

Andelia [Druid] 420299

>>420296
>>420294
follow them closely.

Pomelo [Preacher] 420301

>>420299
>>420295
"You okay Andy? You're lookin' a little nervous there… Are ya sick?"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420302

>>420299
"Are you alright Andy?… You don't look so well…"

Andelia [Druid] 420305

>>420301
>>420302
I smile "lets just enjoy our day, there's nothing to be done about it just now."

Campfire 420306

>>420293
There is that fruit vendor you all met when you first came to these baths. there is a long line of different creatures waiting to buy fruit from him.

>>420294
You now have Superbubble Supersoap. There is an extensive warning list written in a language you cannot read.

>>420295
There are a few doors marked with signs that you can only assume say STAFF ONLY in the local language. There are a few large windows at the front of the shop by the entrance and exit.

>>420296
>>420299
>>420301
The three of you leave the shop and make the long walk to the merchant's district. You can all see Dreamkicker standing by himself in the plaza in front of the city's historic bathhouses.

>>420297
In the merchant's district by yourself, or with all of the party except for Olga in front of two large bathhouses in the residential district.

>>420298
"The Sunshine torches? One hundred and eighty marks."

Olga [Lifebinder] 420308

>>420306
"One hundred and eighty? Why… such a pity. I was hoping to find some light as I came here, but all I have to really spend is One Hundred and Fifty. My grandchildren need some other things, and I would loathe to deprive them if I spent it all on this torch…"

Pomelo [Preacher] 420309

>>420305
"Well if you say so. But if you're feelin' sick just tell me and I can heal you right up!"

>>420306
Neat!
I run up hug Dreamkicker from behind
"Heya Dreamy! We're back!"

Andelia [Druid] 420310

>>420306
I wave at Dreamkicker and guide our group over to them.
>>420309
"it was just all those strong smells in one place, bothered me ya' know."

Muddy Morass 420312

>>420306
I guess I'll go on an item hunt, first. What's my basic magic weapon?

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420314

>>420306
>>420309
I join in on the hug too!
"Whatcha lookin' at DK?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 420315

>>420310
"Ahh, sensitive nose. Gotcha."
Boop her on the nose

Campfire 420316

>>420308
The pony behind the counter examines his hoof.
"Sorry miss, but these are blessed by the sun itself and in great demand during these troubled times. These are your best friend at night with vampires roaming around, because these things can kill the little freaks."

>>420312
State the items you are looking for and roll, please.
The magic weapon is whatever you took from the armory in the mansion. If you didn't take one then tell me what you want.

Andelia [Druid] 420318

>>420315
I blink and then smile returning the boop "Show Dreamkicker your new soap silly"

Muddy Morass 420319

>>420316
I want a magic fist-weapon. Like a boxing glove full of magic lead or something.

As for what I'm searching for? Let's see… we're hunting vampires next, right? I guess I better go get some stakes. Steaks would be nice, too. '1d10'

Meet up with them.

"Are we ready? What took you so long?"

Andelia [Druid] 420323

>>420321
"Fancy bubble making soap, barely legal stuff."

Pomelo [Preacher] 420324

>>420318
I scrunch at the boop and rub my nose
"Right!"

>>420321
"We had some shopping to do and I got this really super neat bottle of bubble bath mix with a whooole buncha boring writing on the back of it!"
I shove the bottle in his face

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420327

>>420324
What's the back say?

Olga [Lifebinder] 420328

>>420316
"Ah! Well, in that case… I understand. Let me see your metal ones."

Terrifying…

Campfire 420333

>>420319
Magical, leaded boxing glove, check.
You find a shop with a large mechanical gryphon and diamond dog standing on top and waving at the people that pass by. The shop has pictures of various cuts of meat on the windows. Next dooor is a shop marked with holy symbols and broken fangs.

>>420327
>>420329
You can't read it, but you bet one of the locals can. If only there were some way for you to learn the language.

>>420328
He takes out a few metal ones and lays them down on the counter.
"These come in all sorts of styles. The nicer ones have internal fuel reservoirs and only need oil and a wick to burn. The less expensive ones just like a wooden torch, but do more damage if used as an impromptu weapon and are less likely to break. You've got a choice one a hundred and ten marks, or seventy marks."

Muddy Morass 420335

>>420333
Okay, let's try out the spooky hunter shop first.

Kick open the door and zoom in. "Aiight I need to talk to some kind of vampire expert."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420336

>>420327
>>420333
"I think it's something about how dangerous it is! The guy at the shop said the bubbles from this can pick up foals and float them up up and away!"

Andelia [Druid] 420338

>>420333
>>420327
"it makes bubbles big enough to suffocate goat kids with a single drop, and don't let anyone drink it."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420340

>>420333
"Just, uh, be careful with that, Pommy."

Go into the bath house and get ready for bathtime.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420342

>>420340
Yeah! Let's go!
I hop over to the bathhouse too.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420343

>>420342

I plop down on the ground and start shivering.

Campfire 420352

>>420335
"Riiight here, sir."
A pegasus with his mane slicked back with mane grease motions to you from behind a counter.
"What can I get for you, my fine hunter of nocturnal monsters?"
The wall is lined with all sorts of wooden holy symbols with as many staked ends as possible, cloves of garlic of dubious freshness, holy water blessed by every sort of religious official you have ever heard of and many you haven't, bags of sand, mirrors, sun paste, and more.

>>420340
You stop before entering to caution Bessy and loosen the straps holding on your saddlebag.

>>420345
All of the smaller rooms are packed full, and all of the private rooms are taken. The main bathtub is crowded.

>>420350
There are a few empty ones, but it looks like the cleaning staff haven't gotten to them. Rinsing the tubs out with water should fix them up just fine though. You quickly run back out to finish your conversation with Bessy.

Andelia [Druid] 420354

>>420352
>>420351
"Well, if we hurry we can get an open tub.." I put a hoof on your shoulder "Hey, you can't take Pomelo with you everywhere can you? Its the rule here that mares and stallions bath separately.."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420359

>>420352
>>420354
"I guess not…"
I sniffle and follow her into the baths.

Pomelo [Preacher] 420360

>>420354
"A dumb rule too. Hmph!"

>>420351
"Sorry Bessy… just this once."
I nudge Bessy and show her the bottle
"Why don't you take some with ya?"

Muddy Morass 420361

>>420352
Point at the bags of sand. "What are these for?"

Prod the bags of sand. Do they feel like breasts?

"And do you have anything made of silver? Wait, was silver for werewolves? Hm…"

Andelia [Druid] 420362

>>420359
I smile "It won't be so bad.." I get the tub ready and splash a bit in bessy's face with a smirk

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420365

>>420352
>>420360
"C'mon, Pommy."

Can I find anything? Maybe the right bath is just hiding behind all of these ponies and such. See 'ems through the crowd.

Roll #1 5 + 2 = 7

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420366

>>420360
"Oh. Okay…"
I take half and put it in one of my bottles, THEN follow Andy.

>>420362
I don't even flinch as she splashes me, still too sad from having to take a bath without Pomelo.

Olga [Lifebinder] 420368

>>420333
"I take good care of my things, but I need ease of burning."

Take the hundred ten one.

Andelia [Druid] 420369

>>420366
I frown "Come on now, add a drop of your bubble stuff."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420370

>>420369
"Okay…"
I pour half of the half that I have in the bath with the saddest frown on my face.

Pomelo [Preacher] 420371

>>420365
I sigh and follow him
"Okaaaay…"

Andelia [Druid] 420375

>>420370
Stir up the bubbles as she does so, "That's probably too much.. but okay"

Campfire 420379

>>420361
They feel like teats. You are reminded of that time you fought against those ponies that were infected by evil mushrooms.
"You jest, my fine fellow. Everyone knows that vampires are obsessive compulsive. simply spill the bag of sand where they can see it and they absolutely must stop until they have counted every last grain! Thirty marks! We have a few silver odds and ends. They're good for both vampires and werebeasts, but most effective against the latter."

>>420365
Dreamkicker
You open your third eye and quickly spot a family leaving one for the private rooms and the cleaning staff moving in. It should be ready soon.

>>420362
You run some water through the tub to get rid of the hair then plug the rain and fill it up. It is big enough to comfortable fit both you and Bessy.

>>420368
He slaps a few vials of oil and a few wicks on the counter then lays out a wide selection of metal torches in different styles.
"Take the one you want. The extra wicks and oil are free."

>>420370
>>420375
The tub quickly overflows with bubbles which fill up the room. When Andelia stirs the bubbly water the bubbles get so thick that they lift you up until you are both touching the ceiling.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 420381

>>420379
Push my way towards the opening bath and claim it as soon as they leave.

"Found a spot."

And then take a bath and stuff.

Muddy Morass 420383

>>420379
"Hmmm… I thought it was bad luck to spill sand. I suppose that's what the mirrors are for, eh? Use them as a shield so it will curse your enemies when they break them."

Andelia [Druid] 420384

>>420379
I laugh and push a bubble toward Bessy. "We're flying Bessy"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 420390

As the bubbles start to form and fill the room, that finally breaks my funk and I immediately brighten up, a wide smile appearing on my face.

The water is warm and relaxing. the lack of the noise of the crowd outside, or a large, hairy buffalo most likely makes this the most relaxing bath you have had since coming home with Pomelo and Bessy.

>>420383
He pauses for half a second then smiles wide.
"Yes, that is exactly what they are for. you can also use them to check to see if someone is a vampire, because everyone knows vampires have no reflection. Such a multipurpose item normally goes for a very high price, but mine are quite reasonable."

>>420387
The large bubbles fill the tube and extend about a foot beyond the lip of it. Dreamkicker looks pretty funny through all these bubbles.

>>420390
After a few tries you figure out how to "swim" through the sea of bubbles.

"Of course they are. She would have killed them, but they are technically citizen of this country so that would have looked bad among the politicians. You know how they are."

I stare at the tub for a second, then light up with a smile.

Open the bath door and put a few more drops in the tub, making sure to have some bubble mix leftover. Is that enough to send some bubbles out the door?

Muddy Morass 420419

>>420409
"Is this Sun Paste washer-friendly?"

Campfire 420420

>>420411
It pops pretty easily. After watching Bessy for a bit you learn to swim in the bubbles too.

>>420412
Scrubadubdub, two dudes in a tub.
You are now clean.

It sure is. the bubbles spill out into the hallway.

Campfire 420464

Nothing too important will be happening from now until the quest resumes, unless you want to keep playing. Feel free to keep talking.

>>420460
You put on your Dan Hellsinger costume and walk in. A skinny unicorn stops stocking a shelf and turns to look at you as you enter.
"An aspiring hunter? You've come to the right place, my friend. Will you be looking for a starter kit?"

>>420461

Campfire 421711

I think we can just resume from where we left off.

Everyone who I expect will be here right away was outside the bathhouses last time and had finished bathing.

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 421712

>>421711
And I'm somewhere, serving as Happyhorn's mobile platform.

Andelia [druid] 421713

>>421711
I think I nearly died on a bubble and probably went to wait outside for the others

Campfire 421714

>>421712
Happyhorn took you to the bathhouses and most likely left you outside while she went to take a bath.

>>421713
You are outside with Dreamkick, Bessy, Pomelo, Hornbeard, and maybe Brutus.

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 421715

>>421714
Well, the mess on my back is full of doggy bags of breakfast foods, still, so I suppose until she pops out of her bath to "clean house" I'm stuck waiting.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 421716

I show everyone the flyers I got here:
>>420464

"We need more money. I would recommend either the pest control or that research project."

Andelia [druid] 421717

>>421716
I look completely lost "You found us jobs already? What does that Flier say?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 421718

>>421715
I suppose he does need some cleaning up here.

Campfire 421719

Campfire 421720

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 421727

>>421726
"You did that for me? Aww, you big ol' softie…but it's hard enough on you with me nesting up there. You didn't need to make a mess of yourself!"

Campfire 421728

>>421725
Careful work with the comb is able to pick out all the small bits of food you cannot pick out with your hooves. You toss it all away then get started on reforming your little bunker. You make good use of the fur left sticky by the food and are able to reinforce your little bunk so that it will retain its shape better. Once that is done you comb clean fur over it to keep our own coat from becoming sticky. After it is all said and done your buffalo bunker is better than new.

Andelia [druid] 421729

>>421723
>>421724
>>421722

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 421730

>>421727
"Well, you were asleep at the time, and I thought most goats wouldn't want to miss breakfast."
>>421729
"If we manage perhaps to track down that first group of vampires that attacked us when we arrived at town, I wouldn't mind going on the hunt, as it were."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 421736

Muddy Morass [Pegasus Charlatan] 421740

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 421741

The sun has nearly reached its peak as the party stands and talks outside the two largest bathhouses in the city. Many ponies, donkeys, ostriches, and others pass all of you as they come and go to and from the bathhouses. Many of the passersby speak with accents unlike the ones in the city, which may explain why the party is getting no hard stares here.

The party heads east towards the cramped temple district. Buildings of all shapes, sizes, and styles occupy the narrow streets here. The party passes tall towers that lean precariously, wide buildings that rise no more and a story high, a wide plaza with a fenced off ruin, small shacks that cover hols in the ground, a building made of thick and dark stone, a forest, and a hoofful of inns. The walk through does not take very long and soon the party passes through a gate in the thick stone wall surrounding the city and into the adventurer's district. The building are made of wood and mostly flimsy, the streets are dirt, the merchants loud, and the smells terrible. The party can see signs offering all manner of things here, including magic that lets foreigners read, speak, and understand the local language. If the party continues east they will eventually arrive at their destination in the farmland.

I'm almost certain I've said this a couple of times before, but the party earned a skillpoint after killing the possessed minotaur. If you have not spent it yet please do so now or tell me that you are hanging onto it. I also need to know if you guys want to reorganize your skills to 1.4.

You look and look and look, but there is no temple dedicated to Celestia. There are plenty of temples dedicated to the sun, however. The biggest, most impressive one is on the east side of a large plaza with a fenced off ruin in the center. The doors stand wide open and from inside shines a light as bright as the midday sun. Above the entrance is a large sun made from goold leaf to catch and reflect the morning sun. The top of its tallest tower is lined with golden leaf and reflects the sun's rays no matter where it sits in the sky. There are many temples of the sun scattered throughout the city. Each of these are dedicated to different aspects of the sun like warmth, fire, light, growth, punishment, the summer, and many that don't make much sense.

"Why would the PRINCESS want to talk to YOU? You probably talked to some insane hedge wizard in the Everfree forest and got confused."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 422432

>>422427
Well it's a good thing I didn't buy anything then. They're out to get me!

>>422431
"Well have you ever talked to a princess, brainiac?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 422433

>>422428
"I did not believe there was such a thing as a vampirism vaccine."
>>422431
"Why not go pray for yourself, unicorn? You couldn't possibly be jealous of Morass, could you?"

Campfire 422434

>>422429
Everything inside the kit looks good, which is suspicious considering what Celestia told you. The pills are filled with a thick, bright red substance.

>>422430
It's got all the basics a vampires hunter might need, plus some little pills full of a red liquid.

Muddy Morass [Charlatan] 422435

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 422445

"They do, yes. But that might have to wait until after we take care of the rat problem."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 422446

Campfire 422449

>>422447
>>422448
The party takes their things and leave the noise, crowding, and stink of the adventure's district behind them. Before long the torn up road become a wide dirt road marred by old cart tracks. A wooden slat fence runs on either side of the road separating all travelers from the corn, grains, and other vegetables being grown in the fields. After a little over half an hour of walking the party sees a small collection of houses and a few other buildings further down the road.

Bessy, Pomelo, and Dreamkicker
You all recognize this place. The three of you stopped at the inn here for lunch when coming to the city.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 422450

>>422449
"I remember this place. It stank of dirt and rotting vegetables.

"I suppose the rat infestation is fitting."

Pomelo [Preacher] 422451

"Wait, is this where the rats are? I don't remember seein any rats when we came by before."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 422452

Bessy [Soothsayer] 422453

>>422449
"This is where the rats are?"

>>422452
"But we didn't see any at all!"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 422454

>>422452
"Yeah, rats tend to do that. At least until they start stealing all your stuff."

Pomelo [Preacher] 422455

>>422454
I tilt my head
"Steal my stuff? Like my new neat hat, a-and my new slingshot and my poncho and my Dreamkicker and my Bessy?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 422456

>>422455
"Usually food, or small bits of cloth for a nest. So they might take parts of your hat, but not the whole thing at once.

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 422457

>>422456
"I dunno…enough rats and they'd probably use the whole thing to sleep in."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 422458

>>422455
"They probably can't steal Bessy. Not unless the rats are the size of ponies."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 422459

>>422463
"…shouldn't this place be full?"

Muddy Morass [Charlatan] 422465

>>422466

PAUSED

Campfire 426111

The party is inside an inn outside the city. The innkeeper has given you all large glasses of cool water to drink. Outside of the inns are several houses lived in by farmer ponies, and beyond them are the fields the farmer ponies farm. The party has been waiting for a few minutes when a loud group of large earth ponies enter the inn. They stop talking and laughing as soon as they see all of you. The largest of them, a brown coated and tan maned stallion, speaks.
"Are all of you here for the job?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426115

>>426111
"Yes. Now what's this about 'monsters?'"

Andelia [druid] 426118

"Yeah! What's the job about?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426121

>>426111
"If you're the one who put out the ad for the rats, we're your hunters."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426122

>>426111
"Yeah! We're chasing some rats around, right?"

Campfire 426127

>>426115
>>426118
>>426119
"There are monsters that live out in a cave in the forest to the northeast of here. They come out at night sometimes and kill livestock and farmers, sometimes even breaking into houses to get at the ponies inside. Normal weapons don't hurt 'em, or else we'd have killed them all already. We're sick and tired of buying new animals and burying dead friends, so we put together most all our money to make a reward."

>>426121
>>426122
"Rats? Where'd you get the idea that we have a rat problem?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426128

>>426121
"If it really is rats…"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426130

>>426127

"Those sound like great big meanies! We'll take care of them alright!"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426131

>>426127
"I knew it!"

Pomelo [Preacher] 426134

>>426127

"Rat, big mean monsters, same thing. Now where are they so we can beat 'em up?"

Andelia [druid] 426135

>>426127

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426137

>>426127
"It did say 'rats' on the flyers. But if they're a bit bigger and meaner, well, that's no skin off my snout."

Campfire 426139

>>426130
>>426131
"Good, good. Can I see all of your weapons? I don't want to send you all out without the right weapons."

>>426134
"I told you already. They're in a cave in the forest to the northeast of here."

>>426135
"Hah! I wish they were ghosts."

>>426137
"I wrote the flyer and I'm pretty sure it doesn't."

He moves forwards, intending to check your weapons.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426140

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426142

>>426140
Do the same.

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426143

>>426139
Hold up my shield. The greatsword can be a surprise later, because precautions are fun.

Pomelo [Preacher] 426144

>>426139
I dangle my slingshot in my mouth.

Andelia [druid] 426152

>>426139
I show him the boomerang and mace. "If they aren't ghosts what are they?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426154

>>426137
"It said "pest" problem. Monsters do seem to stretch the definition a bit."

Campfire 426158

>>426140
>>426142
>>426143
>>426144
He looks at all of your weapons and frowns.
"No, these won't work. The look like the might be a little bit magical, but whatever the enchantment is it isn't enough. Aren't you adventurer's supposed to have bunches of mag weapons that catch fire or shoot lightning or are made out of silver or other magic metals?"

>>426152
"Bloodthirsty monster, like I said."
He shakes his head when he sees your boomerang, but nods when he sees your mace and spear.
"There. Those are adventurer weapons. Those should kill them just fine."

>>426154
"We've already two bands of wanna be heroes walk off the job and badmouth of in the adventurer's district. I had to change the wording to get responses, and the reward is more than enough to make up for it."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426162

>>426158
"I'm an academic, not an armory."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426164

>>426158
"How would you know they're insufficient if we haven't tried them yet? They can hit ghosts, at least, so your pests shouldn't be that much harder to pin down."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426166

>>426158
"Uh… I could shoot magic metals at bad guys. I could also shoot normal rocks and say they're magical if that helps any…"

Andelia [druid] 426167

>>426158
I light up in realization "Oh, Vampires, Well, I understand now. "

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426169

>>426158
"Awww, what? We just got these things…"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426171

>>426158
"But these worked just fine against ghosts, what could those monsters be that they wo-"

>>426167
"Oooooh. Vampires…"
I scrunch my face up as I think.
"Uh… do you have any silverware mister?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426173

>>426171
"Even my nonmagical shield worked pretty well against vampires. It took a bit more work, but the heads come off just the same."

Andelia [druid] 426174

>>426171
"I'm surprised you don't have any silver after our last adventure."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426175

>>426174
Much of our luggage was lost… or eaten… on the way here, I'm afraid."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426177

>>426175
I burp then smile.

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426178

>>426177
"Didn't you need that stuff?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 426179

>>426178
"Naaaah, probably not!"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426181

>>426179
"Huh. Living out of a sack? …that's what I do!"

Pomelo [Preacher] 426183

>>426181
"We still have pleeeenty of stuff. A little nibble or three isn't much."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426187

>>426183
"I always thought it was more fun to scrounge."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426188

>>426187
"I personally believe in preparing ahead of time."

Andelia [druid] 426190

>>426188
"Well, that's a good practice, but if you knew there were vampires around.. you should have prepared some silver weapons."

Campfire 426192

>>426162
"I don't know what the word means, but I hope it means adventurer."

>>426164
"Ghost hitting enchantments aren't the same as flesh-and-blood killing enchantments. We learned our fair share about them when we had to chace thee ghosts out of the old Cottar place."

>>426166
"You know killing magic? Good, that will work."

>>426167
>>426171
>>426173
The ponies laugh.
"No, vampires are the one thing we don't need to worry about out here. We don't have silverware, miss buffalo. A thief stole every last piece of silver in our little town."

He speaks to everyone.
"If you don't have weapons made out of a magic metal like silver, and don't know any killing magic, there a re a few mages in the Adventure's district that can increase the oomf of your weapons. If you need money for the enchantments I can give you a forward on your payment so long as you leave some collateral."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426194

>>426192
"Aw. How much do ya think those cost?"
How much do I have again?

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426195

>>426190
"I wasn't expecting them, really."
>>426192
I'll frown slightly.
"It would seem we don't have much choice in the matter…"
Fishing out the old book of poems, I'll hoof it over.
"Be very careful with this, please."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426197

>>426192
"Awww foof. How much is it?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 426198

>>426194
Never mind, 160!

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426200

>>426192
"Aw…

"How much is it all gonna cost? And what's it gonna do?"

Andelia [druid] 426201

>>426192
"Uh, right.. so these monsters need to be killed with silver, or magic, and they suck blood.. but they aren't vampires because that's impossible in your town?" I sigh "Right.. well, at least I don't have to buy anything.."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426203

>>426192
"If you keep having difficulties in getting adventurers to come out here and solve your problems, perhaps you should give us the money to get the enchantments."

Campfire 426206

>>426194
>>426197
>>426200
"About forty marks for the simple ones. I think the mage's sale line was "It can make a stick as dangerous as a sword".

>>426195
He looks at it.
"A book is collateral for forty marks? No, leave something valuable, like your shield."

>>426201
He facehoofs and grumbles something.
"No. No they don't suck blood."

>>426203
He groans audibly.
"Is it my accent? I said I can loan you the money if you leave collateral."

If you bought books, remember that you can read them once a session.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426210

>>426206
"A loan isn't the same thing as giving us the money. One requires us to pay back the money or it's debited from our eventual payment. The other is free money.

"Do I need to explain it to you in apples and dirt or whatever it is you barter with around here?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 426214

"There's the other shield, I suppose. The one with an eagle on it."

"Wouldn't you need something as well?"
I'll whisper up to Happyhorn.
>>426224
"Do you suppose they're starting to make this more difficult than it should be?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426233

>>426232
"Prolly. I doubt these guys have much to offer us in the first place…I'm starting to wonder if they can even pony up the reward."
I giggle.
"hee…pony"

Campfire 426234

>>426222
They look at each other.
"That works. If you guys don't come back for your friend we, uh, keep her or something?"

>>426224
You find a picture filled magazine entitled Buffalo Girls: Watch Them Come Out Tonight. Someone must have stuck it in Brutus's hair as a joke.

>>426228
"Whatever. You friend offered a solution if you want to take it."

>>426229
They want those monsters dead.

>>426230
"If you have enough money we aren't stopping you."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426237

>>426230
"Well, we can! I think"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426238

>>426234
I still have something like 2 or so of those ancient coins, correct?
"In that case, we'll be back presently."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426239

>>426234
"Huh. Hey, this yours?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426242

"The favor is us giving you your money before you earned so you get a chance to earn it."

>>426244

'1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426260

>>426254
"Exactly. And given your stated inability to get adventurers to come out here – indeed, they go back to the city and 'badmouth' your job rather than perform the deed – you should be a bit more forthcoming in your reimbursement for expenses."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426262

>>426255
I'll blink once or thrice.
"No. No that is not mine."
I'll glance at Pomelo, and then shake my head.
"No, that's silly. He would think it covered in girl germs. It must have been those twins."
>>426254
Well, since I don't know the proper exchange rate for them, I'll take the advance, if Andy's staying here.

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426265

>>426262
"If you say so~"
Pull it back up.
"So we gonna go off after the two-pack or sit here and listen to brainiac give another lecture?"

Andelia [druid] 426268

>>426254
"Okay, I'll try to hurry them along, which way to the enchanter's?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426269

>>426265
"We will make as much haste as I am able. That unicorn is filled with more hot air than the entirety of the Canterlot air fleet."
And back to the Adventurers' district we go… with a quick stop at an antique shop, if we can find one. '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Campfire 426274

>>426259
Pomelo, Bessy, and the rest of the party? leave and return to the adventurer's district. Before long everyone who went is able to find Mage Alley, a street full of mages selling their magical wares. After a bit of talking you are able to determine that the enchantment the farmer was talking about will charge an object with enough magic to cause physical damage to a flesh-and-blood creature, even if the weapon normally could not hurt it. The more expensive enchantments allow the weapon to boost the damage of a weapon, give it temporary elemental damage, or even disguise what the weapon looks like.

>>426260
He just gives you a dirty look.

>>426268
"Go past the purple inn, turn left at the open sewer, turn right at the burned down hatshop, then follow the smell of magic."

>>426269
You find one. It doesn't look like it has much money, but you feel that they will buy the coins for a fair price.

zulu 426276

>>426274
Go back to reading.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426277

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426279

>>426274
I'll stop in.
"Hello? I'd like to get something appraised."

Andelia [druid] 426283

>>426274
I do want to go with to the magic alley, and find a decent looking enchanter for the others. '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426284

>>426274
"Do you think this is the place Pommy?"

Campfire 426286

>>426276
>>426277
You start skimming through your two books, but the farmers have gotten under your skin and you cannot concentrate.
I'll let you read the books a few times in a row next time Dreamkicker visits a library so you can catch up on the missed opportunities. Dreamkickeer does have the book about vampires though. You can roll for that as much as you want so long as you give me an idea of what you are looking for.

>>426279
An old donkey looks up from behind the counter.
""What is it, sonny? Give it here so I can see it."
He speaks with a whistle.

>>426283
There are so many enchanters, and none of them look like what you would call decent.

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426288

>>426286
I'll take out one of my remaining ancient coins.
"This coin is quite old, and I was wondering if I could get an accurate, and honest, appraisal for it."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426289

>>426284
"I think so, Bessy! Let's get to spendin'!"
Go to whichever mage is can enchant our weapons to damage monsters.

Andelia [druid] 426290

>>426286
Well.. maybe there is one that seems trustworthy? '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426291

Look through the vampire books about ways to detect them.
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426294

>>426289
And I follow!

Campfire 426296

>>426288
He squints at it then bites it before dropping it on the counter.
"Twenty marks each."

>>426289
>>426294
You spin around in place and pick the one with a horn enchanted to flash different colors, Bessy following along. He offers you the basic spell for forty marks.

>>426290
Not really. You are glad you are here with your friends. This place is pretty shady in a wizardy sort of way.

>>426291
And I already responded to your reading roll.
"A vampire can be detected by its fangs, thirst for blood, fear of the sun, pale coat, drawn looking face, and dislike of garlic."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426297

>>426296
Hmm.
"For coins that haven't been seen for centuries? I may not know much about coin collecting, but it seems to me that's a rather small amount for a coin so old."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426299

>>426297
"They might just not be that rare."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426301

>>426296
I hold my slingshot up to him along with 40 marks.
"Lay it on me!"

Andelia [druid] 426302

>>426296
Yeah, its a good thing.. If I'm near brutus read intentions on the sales clerk. '1d10' "Maybe they are just common coins?"

Roll #1 7 = 7

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426304

>>426296
>>426301
I drop my cannon and my sling, and 80 marks.
"Me too!"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426305

>>426303
"Well then some pony needs to get their story straight, huh?"

Andelia [druid] 426306

>>426303
"Well, these are enchanters, not bankers, they might not know the true value."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426307

>>426306
We're in a different shop.

Andelia [druid] 426308

>>426306
…oh.. well I'll just keep looking for a reputable shop. Someone with a friendly face, and all that. '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Campfire 426309

"Grave robbery means old coins show up on the market all the time. Sad but true. 'S why I'm getting cremated."

>>426303
"Everyone here is as greedy as a goat in a tin can factory. I'm too old to care about separating rubes from their money."

>>426301
>>426304
His horn lights up with a rainbow of light and blasts your weapons so hard it kn knocks him over.
"Bam! Weapons enchanted! You could shoot apart a werturtle with those things now!"

>>426302
He wants to look and act as impressive as possible to draw in customers, but won't cheat them.

>>426308
You see a dirty unicorn with a kind face and a Manehatten University diploma sitting on his little cart from which he sells spells and earns money for his earnest enchantments..

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426310

Where do Vampires like to live? Besides Crypts.

I gasp and giggle at the show of his magic.
"…What's a werturtle?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426314

>>426309
I'll nod a little sadly.
"That is unfortunate. Here you are, then. Two coins for forty marks."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426315

>>426314
"You sure about this? We don't even know if that old fart was right about what we'll be hunting."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426317

>>426309
I clap at his display

>>426312
"I think it's a turtle that's not a turtle anymore, but were one. So it's like, an ancient dead turtle or something!"

Andelia [druid] 426318

>>426309
"Hello there, " I give him a hoof shake. "Do you have any enchants that let you effect undead?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426319

>>426315
"Better safe than sorry, I suppose. Besides…"
I'll think a moment, then look to the shopkeep.
"You wouldn't happen to know any enchanters that charge a fair price for good enchantments, do you? Or at least any you'd recommend?"

Campfire 426321

>>426310
"Aside from family or empty crypts, vampires enjoy living in places that offer concealment or demand respect. Dark caves, sewers, old castles and fortresses, old mansions, and dungeons of various sorts. Freshly turned vampires will sometimes attempt to continue living in their own homes."

>>426312
"A pony that turns into a giant, angry turtle when the moon is full! Strong jaws, a shell as hard as rock they cad hide instead, and they don't make any sound at all! Why, I seen one once! True story!"

>>426314
You exchange your coins for forty marks.
"Pleasure. If you know anyone else with old things send em my way."

>>426317
He bows and shoots a hoofkerchief out of his horn.

>>426318
He shakes your hoof with a firm grip.
"Sixty marks for an improvement over the basic spell that will let you hurt zombies, vampires, and other undead too."

>>426315
"What manner ah beastie you two going after?"

>>426319
"All the mages in Mage Alley offer the same prices. It's illeagle, but any guard that goes to arrest them forgets why he went there."
Be blows out, causing his beard to flomf around.
"Mages, can't trust 'em."

>>426321
I clap again at the display.
"Hey mister mage, what other kinds of enchantments can you do?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426324

>>426321
"We don't really know. The old innkeeper was annoyingly vague with the details."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426325

>>426321
"Unfortunately, it seems we'll have to. Thank you for your help, and I'll keep you in mind if we happen to find any other old oddities or valuables."
>>426324
"Not to mention the farmers who put the ad out for their pest problem. Maybe if we hit up the previous adventuring groups that they hired, we'd get a better idea of what we're up against."

Andelia [druid] 426326

>>426321
"Oh, then you're just the thing we need. I'll be right back"
Go find the others so I can tell them about this guy. '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426327

>>426325
"Yeah, provided they didn't skip town after being told they'd have to pay out of their own pocket to do the job they signed up for…"

Campfire 426328

>>426322
"At this time the ways to best kill a vampire are still being researched. The current practice is to cut off all their limbs, salt the wounds, and burn each piece in a separate fire. Staking is an unreliable method at the best of times, but will at the very least slow down a vampire."

>>426322
"A good lure for vampires is the smell of a bleeding, scared individual. This will draw them in nearly every time, but one must be aware that all but the most foolish vampires will check for ambushes and, if possible, ambush the would be ambushers. A vampire from a different bloodline can also attract vampires. If you have captured one, or have been turned but continue to fight, this is a viable option."

>>426323
"All sorts of things!"
He suddenly turns bright yellow.
"I can make things change color!"
Drums boom.
"Make noises!"
A clump of mud lifts off the street and hits a vendor on the other side of the road.
"And throw things at unicorns who keep making faces at me even though I tell them to stop!"

>>426325
"Greatful. Stay safe out there."

>>426326
You don't need to roll for that.

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426329

>>426328
And then we're out on the street again. To the Adventurers' district. And we'll see if we can't find the previous applicants to the Farm Pest Control Job. '1d10'

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426333

I gasp in amazement at the wonderful show, and giggle at the joke at the end.
Then I scrunch my face.
"Hey Pommy… DK's taking an awfully long time… should we go back and get him?"

>>426331
"Oh hi Andy! Huh? What guy's stand?"

Andelia [druid] 426335

>>426333
"I think I found a good enchanter, I'll show you to him, he seems like an honest pony."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426336

>>426333
"Yeah… I'm starting to miss him. Also I'm worried he's insultin' us out of a job."
I also scrunch and hop on her back.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426337

>>426335
"Oh. We already got ours Andy, sorry… we're gonna go get DK though! Be right back!"

>>426336
And with that I hop back to the inn.
"Hey DK! What's takin' ya so long?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426338

Campfire 426342

No luck. There are hundreds of adventures in the district, and much more in the city. On top of that you have no idea what the adventurers your are looking for look like.

>>426330
"A holy symbol is most effective if the wielder is a worshiper of the represented diety. Effectiveness can increase if the vampire was a follow of that deity before it became a vampire. The size of a deity's following can affect the power of the symbol."

>>426338
"We never gave ya any money."

>>426340
You find him near Mage Alley.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426343

>>426341
>>426342
I scratch my head.
"What'd I miss?…"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426345

>>426343
I scratch his head too.

Pomelo [Preacher] 426346

>>426343
I shrug.
"I dunno. Maybe it's some sorta whoever talks first loses kind of game?"

>>426345
I… scratch her head
"Is this a game too?"

Andelia [druid] 426347

>>426342

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426350

"Are we all here? Where do we need to go to do this job, peasants?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426351

>>426347
"Not yet. Was looking to find out what we were up against first, but I've had no luck finding the previous adventurers the farmers mentioned."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 426352

"Nah, we had to stop by the pawn shop first."

Andelia [druid] 426353

Pomelo [Preacher] 426355

I give a sigh of relief.

Campfire 426356

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426358

>>426356
"Urgh. Stupid slow-witted…"

>>426355
"Shall we go find them?"

Hand the stupid innkeeper that ring or something. Tell him that if he tries to steal it I'll cut his balls off.

Andelia [druid] 426359

>>426357
I show them the way to that old man.

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426360

>>426359
"Ho there, elder. How are your prices?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 426362

>>426358
"Yeah!"
Head off to find them.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 426363

>>426356
"We're right here silly! Now where's that place where you want us to go?"

Campfire 426364

>>426358
"If you aren't getting money from me to buy things I don't need your stuff."

>>426360
"Forty marks for an enchantment that will let your weapons hurt even the toughest monsters, sixty for the same plus magical damage to the solid undead, and you don't look like you can afford anything else."

>>426362
They are in Mage Alley.

>>426363
"The other one. The one with the armor. We want you to go to the forest to the northeast. There is a cave there with monsters. Kill them monsters and come back to get your reward."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 426365

>>426364
"Let's freaking go already. I'm tired of the smell here."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426366

>>426364
"Since I use a shield as a weapon and a defense, you wouldn't happen to have any defensive spells available, would you?"

Campfire 426368

>>426366
His horn glows.
"You've only got forty marks. That's enough for a basic weapon enchantment, and that's all."

Pomelo [Preacher] 426369

>>426365
"It's not that bad Dreamy. Just a little hint of.."
I sniff the air.
"…I think mold and stale bath water?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 426372

>>426368
I'll sigh.
"Very well, then."
And I'll hold out my shield, the one I got from the Inquisitor mansion.

Campfire 426373

THE PARTY IS ALL AT THE INN
THE WEAPONS THEY HAVE WILL WORK FINE FOR THE ENEMIES THEY WILL ENCOUNTER
NO MONEY WAS SPENT
NO ITEMS OR ENCHANTMENTS WERE BOUGHT OR SOLD
I'M SORRY

I plan on running again on Thursday night. If you catch me making things complicated or trying to be secretive yell at me over Steam.

Campfire 427282

The party sits in a country in surrounded by a few houses and many large fields full of grains and vegetables. The innkeeper has provided cold water for the party to drink, but has otherwise stayed out of their hair. It has been nearly ten minutes since the party sat down and the town has stayed quiet, but now the tramp of hooves and the sound of loud voices can be heard approaching the inn. The door swings open and in come many large earth ponies with dull, earthy colored coats. They all stop talking when they see the party, and the largest on approaches them.
"Are you the adventurers here to kill the beasts living in the northeastern forest? If not, would you like to be? The pay is good."

Campfire 427283

We'll be waiting for about ten minutes for zulu. Feel free to talk or do whatever.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427285

>>427282

>>427286
>>427287
>>427292
"Alright, you had best set out soon then. You'll find their lair in a cave in the forest. If you don't have any healers in your group you might want to visit a temple when the job is over because they've got a pretty nasty bite. You'll get all of your reward when you get back."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427297

>>427295

I give him a hug and pat his head.

And with that, I follow DK.

Pomelo [Preacher] 427301

Campfire 427304

>>427302
"What?"

>>427297
>>427300
>>427301
Dreamkicker's crossbow is in good working order. You all stand up and leave the inn. The sun is starting to come down from its noon position and you can see the forest the farmer mentioned far off in the distance. The pony sticks his head out the door.
"Try to make it back before nightfall. Lots of nasty things outside when the sun sets."

All of you begin the trek to the forest, and by the time you arrive the sun has nearly reached the horizon and the light has just started to grow dim. The last of the fields stop here, and broken wooden rail fences separate the fields in the valley from the forest that grows up the gentle slopes of the mountain. The trees here are tall and thin, but plentiful underbrush makes it difficult to see very far into the forest. There is an old, poorly-maintained path that leads into the woods.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427324

Campfire 427437

I'm not seeing any mention of tents or sleeping bags in any of your inventories.

>>427430
They should.
Roll, Brutus.

>>427436
You capture some fireflies in jars without managing to burn yourself. You poke a few holes it the tops of the jars so they can breath.

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427438

>>427437
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427439

>>427437
How much light is that giving off?

Olga [Lifebinder] 427440

>>427433
"The bogeyhorse! Night creatures! They attack those who are alone at night! should you hear incessant cackling in the forests at night, run and find your companions, or if you have none, run, run and never stop!"

>>427432
"Would you like to donate some hairs to burn, then?"

Campfire 427441

>>427438
You gather the soggy, sappy chunks of timberwolf and get thick red sap on your legs.

>>427439
Enough to light up the path for a few feet if you make a perimeter with them.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427442

>>427440
"Stop frightening the buffalo, you old ninny.

"And if we really must stop, then perhaps Brutus should knock some firewood down."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427443

>>427441
Oh, that's going to be a bother to clean.
And it's probably flammable. Aren't there any dryer pieces of them left? '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

Campfire 427444

>>427443
Nope they are all pretty soggy and…squishy?

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427445

>>427444
Ew. I'll set one of the squishier ones down, and clear the ground around it.
"Could one of you light that? I'm not certain how flammable the sap is, and I seem to be covered in it."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427446

>>427442
"Well we should have enough now, shouldn't we?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 427447

>>427446
>>427445
I look down the path.
"Can't we just go with the lanterns we have? It's probably gonna get darker soon…"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427448

>>427440
I shiver and move a bit closer to Pomelo and DK.
"Th- that's just a silly story… right?"

>>427441
I'm just gonna go and gather many many more
Make a few of those firefly lanterns!
'1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427449

>>427448
"When has she been right about anything?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427450

Look if we're going to do this, let's speed it up, okay?

"I'll take the first watch."

Look out for monsters.
'1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

Pomelo [Preacher] 427451

>>427448
I gulp and hug her
"I wouldn't let no mean big… scary… spooky… boogeyhorse.. touch my friends!"
I shiver a little

Pomelo [Preacher] 427452

>>427450
Why are we stopping to caaaaamp
I stay up with him

Olga [Lifebinder] 427453

>>427448
>>427451
"I know ponies like to tell stories of the bogeyhorse like it's a joke, or something to scare bad kids, but the truth is far more terrifying! There are also Night Trolls, those who come out in darkness to capture goats, or ponies, of buffalo, and transform them into monster like themselves so they can have children with them!"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427454

>>427452
I guess it makes sense from an IC perspective, sorta.

Once that's done, someone else should roll for watch and stuff.

Campfire 427455

The sun dips below the treeline and fog rises up from the ground, creating a blanket as deep as a goat's back. The light from the stars and the fat moon cast their soft, silvery light down upon it.

>>427448
You try to catch more fireflies but singe your hoof when you miss with your jar.

>>427450
Saved for when the others bed down.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427456

>>427454
Not really. It's barely dark! It was light when we just came here! It's been dark for a grand total of maybe an hour!

>>427455
"So I guess we're camping up now?… Why are we camping in the woods? It's scary here…"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427457

>>427456
"Go to bed, Bessy. Everypony go to bed. Brutus, I'll wake you up for the next watch."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427458

>>427457
I'll nod, and settle down on the ground.
"You warm enough up there, little one?"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427459

>>427457
"Okay…"
I nod and settle down on the ground and try to get comfortable.

Pomelo [Preacher] 427460

>>427454
We got lanterns, weapons that can take on vampires, a job to get paid for, and it's not even pomelo's bed time…

>>427457
"But I wanna stay up with yo-"
I immediately fall over next to Dreamkicker and sleep.

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427461

>>427458
"Perfectly!" Just don't roll over!"

Campfire 427462

>>427450
You stay up and keep your eyes peeled for danger as the others go to sleep. After an hour you spot several things coming up the path from deeper in the forest. They are moving towards the camp. As they get closer they slow down and stop. The light from the jars does not extended far enough to make out what they are, but the front creature looks like a pony with longer ears. It speaks in a braying voice.
"Hello? Who are all of you?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427463

>>427462
Great. More peasants.

"Get up. All of you get up. We have company.

"We're a band of adventurers attempting to eradicate this forest's pest problem. And you?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427464

>>427463
I'll snort once or twice, and blearily open my eyes.
"My watch already?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 427465

>>427463
I roll over and stretch next to Dreamkicker
"Nngh… what? Who's where?"

Look up at the creatures in front of us and yawn.
"…We don't want any."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427466

>>427463
Grunt and roll over.

Campfire 427467

>>427463
He looks back at the shapes behind him before speaking.
"We're the last group they sent. You shouldn't stay here, the forest is full of monsters that will eat you alive. Our camp is safer."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427468

>>427463
"Huh?…"

>>427467
"Who are you guys?…"
I rub the sleep from my eyes.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427469

>>427467
"Who sent you?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427470

>>427467
I'll blink once or twice.
"If you're the last group they sent, then where are your torches? There's plenty of deadwood around that you needn't walk about in the dark."

427471

>>427463
Is it a bogeyman?

Roll #1 7 = 7

Pomelo [Preacher] 427472

>>427467
I grunt and stand up.
"You're not tryin' to take the job back are you…? We need the pay for… stuff!"

Campfire 427473

>>427468
"We're the last group that the farmers sent to kill the monsters. There's a lot they didn't tell us and now we'rre trapped her. Come with us, our camp is safer."

>>427469
"What do you mean?"

>>427470
"Carrying torches makes you too easy to see. Put your fires out and follow us before the monsters find us."

>>427471
There's no cackling, so probably not.

>>427472
"We don't care about the marks anymore. We only want to live."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427474

>>427473
"Hmmm."

Scan them.
'1d10+2'

Roll #1 9 + 2 = 11

Pomelo [Preacher] 427475

>>427473
"Hmm…"

>>427474
Nudge him
"Should we follow 'em?"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427476

>>427473
>>427474
>>427475
"What do you think DK? What should we do?…"
I yawn.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427477

>>427476
>>427475
"Hold on. There's something odd about them."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427478

>>427473
I yawn.
"Then how the heck can you see annythin' outhere?"

Campfire 427479

>>427474
Dreamkicker
The group is four members strong: three ponies and a donkey. The donkey's coat has two dully colored splotches on his flanks and two lumps on his back. The ponies all have smudged cutiemarks and one has an oddly sized horn, another has wings that are too big, and another is freakishly stong.

>>427478
"We follow the path. You don't need light to know the path is the place without a bunch of trees and bushes. This place isn't safe. We really need to get back to our camp."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427480

>>427479
"There's something wrong with them. They seem… wrong."

Speak to the donkey.

"Why are you out here in the middle of the night?"

Olga [Lifebinder] 427481

>>427479
"How long have you been here for? Why do you not go back?"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427482

>>427479
"Where is your camp? Why'd you leave it?"

Campfire 427483

>>427480
"We heard fighting and came to see if there were survivors. The longer we stay here the more likely monsters are to find us. It's not safe here."

>>427481
"We lost count. Monsters patrol the edge of the forest to keep us from leaving. We think the farmers tricked us and are evil. Please hurry before the monster hear us."

>>427482
"On the slop of the mountain. I already told the unicorn why we left. Please come with us quickly."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427484

>>427480
Look at him but say nothing.

Pomelo [Preacher] 427485

>>427480
"They ruined our nap. That's pretty wrong of 'em."
I cross my arms
"Let's just go and check it out. If they try anything funny we can smack em around."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427486

>>427485
"I don't trust them… but perhaps they could help us find out what's wrong with the forest."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427487

>>427483
>>427485
>>427486
"Yeah… they interrupted our sleeping! Buncha meanies…"

Campfire 427488

>>427485
"Would you have liked to be eaten in your sleep? Come back to our camp and you will be safe."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427489

>>427488
"We had a watch…he saw you comin'."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427490

>>427488
I'll yawn widely for a moment, and then look to the other three.
"If it's a trap, even tired we should be strong enough to take them. But we've nothing to lose by working together, suspicious though they are."

Pomelo [Preacher] 427491

>>427490
I nod and yawn

>>427488
"Fiiiiine!"
I stumble towards them

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427492

>>427491
Follow beside him.

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427493

>>427492
>>427491
And I'll follow suit.

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427494

>>427493
Stare at them as he goes past.

427495

>>427483
There's something wrong. There might be.

Do I know anything about monsters that might take the guise of lost travelers to lure others into danger?

Roll #1 5 = 5

"So?"

>>427492
>>427493
>>427494
>>427496
"Good. Put out your lights and stay quiet."
They turn around and start along along the path deeper into the forest.

>>427495
There's all sorts of monsters that are rumored to do that. In fact, there are too many for you to narrow down what these might be if they aren't who they say they are.

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427498

>>427497
Plodding along in the dark sure is fun. And the trees are too thick to let in any starlight, aren't they? '1d10'

Roll #1 1 = 1

427499

>>427497
Too late to say anything.

Send my wolf minion out before me and have Hornbeard my my side, then proceed carefully.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Pomelo [Preacher] 427500

>>427497
I sleepily shuffle along
"We almost there?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427501

>>427497
Turn on farsight so I can see, climb on top of Bessy if–- if it's okay~ and direct her

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427502

>>427497
Nothing bad is going on… is there?
'1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Pomelo [Preacher] 427503

>>427501
I hop on too and lay down on Bessy's back
"Hey, I didn't know you liked it up here too Dreamy!"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427504

>>427503
"It's an undignified concession to the reality presented to us, Pommy."

Pomelo [Preacher] 427505

>>427504
I tilt my head.
"So yes? Those words mean yes, right?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427506

>>427504
"S'comfy, right?"

Campfire 427507

>>427498
Far too thick. The party is traveling along is total darkness, staying together thanks only to the sounds of others walking nearby and the occasional brush or bump.

>>427499
Your wolf warns you of things you might trip over and Hornbeard lets you lean on him when you get tired.

>>427501
With your magical vision you direct Bessy around every root and rock.

>>427502
You can't tell, it's pitch dark.

>>427500
"Patience."

After who knows how long of following the path the party emerges into a clearing. The light from the stars and the full moon let the party see a little bit. The slop grows steeper here, and several large boulders dot the sides of the path as it goes up the mountain. The group you all joined keeps walking.
"Almost there. Hurry. We have shelter in a cave."
Everyone roll a 1d10-2, except Dreamkicker who should roll a d10.

427508

>>427507

Roll #1 8 - 2 = 6

Campfire 427516

You both hear a stick crack in the forest behind you. Looking back you can see several abnormally large wolves and bears watching from the forest behind you. They seem to be waiting for something.

>>427509
>>427511
>>427512
None of you see anything moving asides from your friends and the four people you met.
"Hurry. To the cave."

>>427514
Your trained eyes catches movement along the mountain. Squinting, you can see a few abnormally large wolves and bears lying as still as they can. Glancing behind you, you see more of them along the treeline, creating a box to intercept the party if they go anywhere but up the mountain. Their even spacing leaves you no doubt that they are intelligent. The fact that they were already here tell you that they knew you all were coming.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427517

>>427516
"Wait a moment. I distinctly remember that we were looking for a cave filled with monsters. This doesn't feel right at all."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427518

>>427517
"No, it certainly doesn't. Why not light up the night, since we're safely at the caves?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427519

>>427518
"Well we are being followed…"

Pomelo [Preacher] 427520

>>427519
"Huh? By what? I don't see nothing followin' us."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427521

>>427516
>>427517
>>427518
I put a hoof up to everyone's mouth.
"Shhhhhh! There's super big wolves and bears trying to ambush us! We gotta keep going… they know we're here and they've boxed us off! These ponies really were bad news…"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427522

>>427521
I'll perk up slightly at that.
"So we wait until we're in the caves, and then only so many of them can attack at once."

Olga [Lifebinder] 427523

Stay low.

"No point in stopping to light the lanterns. We are almost there. Keep going."

>>427519
>>427520
"Nothing is following us."

>>427524
Dreamkicker
You can't get a good look at them. Something from further up the mountain is throwing your vision off.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427527

>>427526
Farsight further into the cave.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427528

>>427526
Can I see anything about those pones?

"We're completely trapped…"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 427529

>>427522
"Wouldn't it just make it easier for them…?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 427530

>>427526
"I believe there is plenty point to it. Caves are even more treacherous to explore in the dark than forests are."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 427531

>>427528
"Weeeelll… not compleeetely trapped… We can still go up. But that's it."

"That's not good… maybe we can run up and lose 'em?"

Campfire 427533

Dreamkicker
You can see the mouth of the cave up a steep incline, and next to it a large round stone can can be rolled over the entrance by somepony outside the cave.

>>427528
They look sort of strange, but that might just be the shadows that are being cast on them by the boulders they walk by.

>>427530
"The cave is safe. Hurry up and follow us."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427534

Campfire 427536

>>427534
They look at each other, then start laughing. The donkey speaks.
"We are trying to get you fools into the cave, but this is close enough. We told you the the truth when we said who we are, well, were."
He grins, the light of the full moon reflecting off his eyes and the eyes of his friends.
"Now. Walk into the cave or we can drag you in beaten, bitten, and bloody."

>>427535
You get your torch out as Hornbeard prepares his flint and iron.

Pomelo [Preacher] 427537

>>427534
I stand behind him and glare at the strange party

Campfire 427538

Pause?

Pomelo [Preacher] 427539

>>427538
Good point for it yeah

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 427540

Campfire 427541

PAUSED

Campfire 428141

The party stands in a clearing on the slope of a mountain. Behind them is the dark, fog-filled forest. To their left and right are steeper portions of the slope. Ahead of the party is a path leading up the mountain into the darkness. Standing at distant intervals, several larger-than-normal bears and wolves form a cordon that leaves only the path up the mountain unguarded. The donkey and three ponies, large and malformed, watch the party with eyes that shine in the light of the full moon.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 428142

"Do you think you can kill all of us?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 428147

>>428146
"Truthfully? No. But I can at least hope to slow enough of you down to give the rest a chance to escape."

Pomelo [Preacher] 428148

Does it only lead to the cave or no?

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 428149

The donkey speaks.
"The rules are simple. Whoever can find their way out of the cave before the sun is halfway over the treetops and remains uncaught until then gets to go free. If any of you want to surrender now, go ahead. The plan isn't to kill any off you, but we won't shed any tears if we do."

The party has just defeated two werwolves and one warwarg. The healers saw to the wounded and saw the price of them slacking or failing in their duties as Muddy Morass sprouted thick, grey fur from a bite wound. They were able to fix the problem, however. Aside from the party and the corpses the cave is empty. Up and to the left lies the main tunnel, and further up and to the left lies a large room where Dreamkicker mentioned seeing four werwolves messing with several items and saddlebags.

"No, we were born like this. We came upon this cave while traveling. I would like you all to hold back and wear your weapons as you do now, just in case combat is necessary."
She blushes and look down at the ground when you mention the tunnel.
"Tempers were high and I was panicked. We all made mistakes."

Campfire 430508

>>430505
"It's a statue of the Charioteer. The Destroyer. The King of the Midnight Castle. Haven't you heard of him?"

BDN 430509

>>430507
>>430508
"I… I see. Those who are cursed by the Midnight Tyrant Tirek. I understand."

Andelia 430510

>>430507
"I certainly hope that we won't need to use weapons on your friends. But you know.. they tricked us into coming up here, put up a nice act about wanting to clear out this place; and now they're hunting us. They called it a game: we have until day break to escape.. and they've done this to others.. You understand why we've not particularly patient with them anymore?"

Campfire 430511

>>430509
She frowns at you.
"I wouldn't call it a curse. Then again, I was born this way."

>>430510
She grows pale.
"R-really? That doesn't sound like them."

Andelia 430512

>>430508
>>430509
"Its a statue of Tirek?" I frown "sounds bad."

BDN 430513

>>430511
"Does it cause you suffering?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 430514

>>430511
"What did your companions look like?"

Andelia 430515

>>430511
"Don't worry.. I'm sure this is the statue's influence.. but I wanted you to know now, just how dangerous things have become."

Campfire 430516

>>430512
"I think it is, or was, a shrine. We could feel his presence."
She shudders.
"Still, can feel his presence. He is a bad influence on creatures like us."

>>430513
"No? Does being a goat cause you suffering?"

>>430514
"All sort of races. Mostly we would turn into wolves and bears. Our leader a few others were lions. I think a few of us had stranger forms to."

BDN 430517

>>430516
"Then it does not matter. Please forget I said anything."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 430518

>>430516
"I meant what did they pass as. A donkey, or pegasus, perhaps?"

Andelia 430519

>>430516
"Does it hurt to transform?" I blink "I can transform as well, into a wolf, a gift for my devoted studies in nature, Is that similar to yours?"

Campfire 430520

>>430517
"Thank you."

>>430518
She raises an eyebrow.
"Pass as? Please, I am just as much a donkey as I am a…a…I'll remember eventually."
She shakes her head.
"Like I said. We were all sorts of races."

>>430519
"No."
Her eyes grow wide.
"You can? And you aren't a werwolf? Well, I suppose if anything else would grant a similar gift it would be Nature. The King of the Midnight Castle is the lord of change a transformation, although Discord intrudes on his domain often enough that they might as well share it. It is most likely similar."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 430521

>>430520
I'll shrug.
"They didn't quite seem to get the complete hang of it, though. There was something… off about each of them."

Campfire 430522

>>430521
"That is why it is similar instead of the same. We don't turn into animals. We turn into what the Charioteer would have them look like if he ruled the world."

Andelia 430523

>>430520
>>430522
I look surprised "There are others that can do the same, different ponies have different animals they are close to, and then are able to change shape to that. even the best can only do so for a short time thou."

Campfire 430524

>>430523
She nods.
"And they turn into the animal itself? You've seen the werwolves, I'm sure. If you can turn into a wolf then you know they aren't the same, exactly. There is no time limit for us either, once we learn how to control it."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 430525

>>430522
I'll shake my head.
"That doesn't quite sound like something anyone would want. I had always thought that those with lycanthropy simply let the beast inside of them out. Some become strong as a bear, others swift and durable as a wolf, and a few become as tenacious and vicious as a badger."

Andelia 430526

>>430524
"That's right, They turn into the animal itself. I see.. yours is much closer to actually fusing with the animal since you have traits of it all the time?"

Muddy Morass [Charlatan] 430527

>>430522
"Pretty spooky, chief. So uh… any ideas why they wanted us in these tunnels so bad?"

Campfire 430528

>>430525
She shrugs.
"So long as we stay away from the influence of the Charioteer we can control ourselves well enough no matter how we look. It is probably different for for those that weren't born with it, but I don't know for sure. I'm sure someone out there has studied this and written a book or two about it."

>>430526
She shakes her head.
"What gave you that idea? I'm a donkey right now, completely the same as any other jenny. I could probably live in the city nearby and no one would be any the wiser so long as I never went out or had company during the full moon."

>>430527
"Your friends said they were hunting you. It's terrible, but if the Charioteer has brought out the beat in them…"
She shakes her head again.
"I can't think like that. I need to stay positive."

Muddy Morass [Charlatan] 430529

>>430528
"Yeah, yeah, I get that. But why the caves? That seems pretty specific. Like, it's pretty normal to hunt outside of caves, get me? And the last group we found sort of waited for us instead of seeking us out. There's nothing special about these caves that you know of?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 430530

>>430528
"Probably."
And I'll resume watching the corridor, and keeping an eye and ear out for trouble.

Andelia 430531

>>430528
"I see.. you make it sound like a blessing instead of a curse. Did you ever spread the curse to others?"

Campfire 430532

>>430529
"Well, there is the statue. The caves also mean its harder for any of you to get away or hide."

>>430530
"You should wash their blood off when you get the chance. I don't think it can infect you like vampire blood can, but better safe than sorry."

>>430531
"It's neither. I am what I am, you are what you are, and your friends are what they are. It doesn't make me better or worse than anyone else. I've never tried to spread it to anyone and I've never seen any reason too. I doubt they would want it just as much as I don't want to have it taken away from me."

Muddy Morass [Charlatan] 430533

>>430532
Frown. "It's almost like they want us to smash it. Why else would they put us here, instead of simply hunting us on the mountainside? They seemed okay with us getting away if we were quick-witted enough to evade them for the night."

Campfire 430534

>>430533
A thoughtful look crosses her face.
"Maybe deep down they do want you to smash it. I hope so, because it means they are still them, even if its only really deep down on the inside. They also don't want to risk you getting away or being able to find food or a hiding spot. Maybe they are just overconfident."

Andelia 430535

>>430532
"well, no one would want it forced on them.. but unlimited transformation into your beast form can't be all bad." I smile slightly "especially if there was an experienced teacher to help you control it."

Muddy Morass [Charlatan] 430536

>>430534
"Yeah, I guess we'll see about that."

>>430535
"I dunno. I sure wasn't a fan of sprouting fur, chief. At least, not like that."

Throw on a new generic werepony disguise of any race. '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

Campfire 430537

>>430535
She looks at you curiously.
"Maybe, but only after we fix the problem in this cave, and only after you know what you are getting into. We are creatures of the Six Limbed One no matter how much we ignore it. We do not get along well with those blessed by other deities, or even others "blessed" by the Six Limbed One. There is also the problem of hunters, adventurers, and inquisitors that look to kill us whenever they can find us."

>>430536
You put on a rubber wolf head. The jenny giggles.

Andelia 430538

>>430537
"The Six Limbed One is that your name for Discord? And by not getting along with deities.. Do you mean that you can't enter temples?"

Campfire 430539

>>430538
"No, that is another name for the Charioteer. He's got four legs and two arms. We don't use his name because that can draw his attention. We can enter temples, I think. But I have heard of statues and heavy decorations randomly falling and crushing some of those that enter them. We do not get along their blessed creatures either, like the Sun's Phoenix or Discord's, um, whatever his chosen animal is at the time."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 430540

>>430539
"Platypus, usually from what I've seen. Strangest damn thing."

Campfire 430541

>>430540
"That's it, yes. Owls, earth elementals, and party animals don't hate us too, as do all of the Charioteer's creatures."

Andelia 430542

>>430539
"Alright, you know there are inquisitors in the town, trying to reclaim it for their holy order." I show her my mace "They had this, all I can tell is that its very old and very connected to nature. Not something they could understand."

Campfire 430543

>>430542
"It's not something I could understand either. I am not connected with Nature just like vampires aren't connected with Nightmare Moon and Cinders aren't connected to the Sun."

Andelia 430544

>>430543
I shrug "Well, it was worth a try.. your Six Limbed one, does he give other kinds of "blessings"?"

Campfire 430545

>>430544
She nods.
"He and Grogar have battled frequently over who controls the liches. He also controls evil ghosts and spirits. He can give the gift of boogeyism, vampirism, kelpism, and the various Night Creatures."

Andelia 430546

>>430545
"Interesting.. and do these blessings all come with similar limitations, or down sides? "

Campfire 430547

>>430546
"Well, the biggest downside for all of us is that we will kill one another just as soon as look at each other. Those of us that shun his influence merely have an intense hatred for the others. Boogeies, according to the stories, live inside darkness and feed off of foals and torror to survive. Vampires feed on blood and catch fire in sunlight. Kelpies live underwater and drown whatever they can catch. The Night Creatures are mindless, cunning animals."

Andelia 430548

>>430547
"So.. you mean that if your friends are now embracing his influence, they'll kill you on sight? How do they know the difference?"

Campfire 430549

>>430548
"No no no. Wercreatures are fine with wercreatures. Kelpies are fine with kelpies. Vampires are fine with vampires. Boogeypones are fine with Booogeypones. Put two of them together in the same room? You'll have bloodshed nine times out of ten."

Andelia 430550

>>430549
I frown "well that does explain why no one ever hears about them being in the same place. You just can't help attacking each other?"

Campfire 430551

>>430550
"It's very hard not to. If both of you now you are going to be meeting each other and have time to prepare you can be civil, but icy. At least, that is my experience. Maybe there is a way to overcome it, but it would take a lot of time and effort on the part of each party involved. If either one follows the Charioteer bloodshed is inevitable."

Andelia 430552

>>430551
"Thank you for being so patient in your explanation. That's a lot to think about."

Campfire 431385

Last time on Crypt Quest 2 the party avoided a patrol of werlions and found the skeletal remains of a donkey. After the necromancers chatted with it for a bit they learned that the wercreatures here had found a statue of Tirek that drove them to infighting. Olga then brought the jenny back to life.
"Okay. You all promise to not do anything unless they attack me, alright? I don't think they will, but you never know. Also, could I have my rings back please?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431386

>>431385
"So. Further down the tunnel is more of our captors. Shall we proceed? Or are we going to try to double back?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 431387

>>431385
"If they attack us instead of you, though, you won't begrudge us defending ourselves, I hope."

"If you left any alive behind you then turning back might work."

>>431387
"Of course not. Do what you need to do to survive."

Pomelo [Preacher] 431390

>>431385
"Aw… okay."
I take the rings off my horns and hand them back to her.

Bessy [Soothsayer] 431392

>>431385
>>431390
"It's okay Pommy! We'll get you some rings when we get back to town! Maybe… MAYBE EVEN CANDY RINGS!"

Andelia (druid) 431393

>>431389
"Lets go forward.."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431394

>>431390
I give mine back, too.

"I don't normally take requests from puppets."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 431395

>>431394
"She seems alive enough to me. You should really work on getting that stick out of your rear and loosen up."
I'll shake my head.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431399

>>431395
"I don't recall asking for opinions from the glorified, talking bathroom rug."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 431401

>>431399
"DK! Stop insulting everyone!"
I huff.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431402

>>431401
"He started it."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 431403

>>431402
"And you continued it. You could have let it go."
I'll shrug.
"But arguing probably isn't going to get us anywhere. We should move."

Pomelo [Preacher] 431404

>>431402
I frown at him.
"That doesn't mean it's nice to keep it going, Dreamy…"

Campfire 431406

>>431390
"Thank you, little goat."
She starts to put them in her saddlebag, then stops when she realizes that her saddlebag is no more. After thinking for a minute she quickly braids them into her mane.

>>431393
"Me too. I want to talk with our leader and get things straightened out."

>>431394
She does the same with your rings.
"What's that supposed to mean?"

>>431403
"Move where?"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 431407

>>431402
"And you're going to stop it."
I frown at him and cross my front legs.

Pomelo [Preacher] 431409

>>431406
"He said pretty donkeys! Dreamy's got a bit of an accent."

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 431410

>>431406
"Well, towards the statue, I suppose. If it's still where you left it while you were alive previously."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 431411

>>431406
"Talk to your leader? Will he even recognize you?"

"Oh. Okay."

>>431410
"Alright. If that's where you all want to go."

>>431411
"Why wouldn't he?"

The party slowly moves back to the main tunnel. Going to the north will take you to a large, open room dimly lit by torches and, from the sound of things, containing several wercreatures. Going south will take you all back down the tunnel.

Andelia (druid) 431414

Pomelo [Preacher] 431415

>>431412
"So where would that statue be from here? Over this way?"
I point north

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431416

>>431412
"So what sort of statue are we talking about?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 431418

>>431415
"She told us it was past the room up ahead."

Campfire 431419

>>431414
She nods her head.

>>431415
"Forwards and to the left."

>>431416
"A statue of the Charioteer. It is carved of dark, jagged stone."

She looks at the rest of the party.
"Unless any of you have more questions for me I am ready to confront them."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 431420

>>431412
>>431418
"What's in the room up ahead?"

Pomelo [Preacher] 431421

>>431418
I pull my hoof back and nudge her
"I'm testin' her! Don't ruin it!"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 431422

>>431419
"Be careful. And I hope they listen to reason."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 431423

>>431422
"Yeah. I'd hate to see you die twice."

Pomelo [Preacher] 431424

>>431419
I nod.
"I got nothin'"

Campfire 431425

>>431420
"A bunch of holes. Some of them connect to an underground river. If you fall in you will either drown or be dashed against the tunnel it flows through."

>>431422
"I will be. Thank you."

>>431423
She laughs.
"And I would hate to die so soon."

"Any more questions?"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431426

Andelia (druid) 431428

>>431425
"No, go ahead.." I wait here.

Pomelo [Preacher] 431430

>>431425
I shake my head and climb on Bessy.

>>431392
"Deal!"

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431431

>>431425
"I'm not sure this is the best plan. I think you're far more likely to alert the creatures to our presence than you are to find your leader – who is likely dead or now one of the monsters, I should add. It would probably be best for you to stay with us."

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 431433

>>431431
"They might think it's weird that she's still alive too…"

Campfire 431434

>>431431
"Well of course he's one of the ones that liked the statue. I can't just leave him and my old friends here. What if all of your friends started acting crazy, would you abandon them?"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 431435

>>431434
I'll just refrain from my educated guess.

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431436

>>431434
"I think it's better for you to remain realistic about our situation, and not to put all of us further in danger to satisfy your sense of obligation."

How old of a skeleton was/is she, anyways? What sort of time scale are we talking about?

Pomelo [Preacher] 431437

>>431431
>>431434
"Now that he says that… Dreamy's kinda got a point. Bad things might happen if you show up out of nowhere."

Campfire 431439

>>431436
She scowls.
"If you all want to abandon me, go ahead, but I know what's right and what's wrong. I'm not going to leave my friends like this."

About a month or two.

>>431437
"That's why I was hoping you all would be there to guard me if they got violent."

Bessy [Soothsayer] 431440

>>431439
"But if we're there then they'll get violent and start fighting us!"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 431441

>>431439
"Well we'd be happy to, but they're kinda supposed to be looking for us right now…"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 431442

>>431439
>>431441
"Well, if they find us, and she can convince them to let us go, then we certainly won't be detained, and by the terms of their game, we'll have won. If they don't, well… We're fairly strong."

Campfire 431443

>>431440
>>431441
"But I thought you all said you would hide until they got violent?"

>>431442
She nods her head.
"Right."

She looks at the party.
"Well, make your decisions. I'm going now."
The jenny walks north into the large chamber.

Andelia (druid) 431444

>>431443

Andelia (druid) 431451

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 431452

I'll shrug.
"Or they'll think her to have come back on their master's order to punish them for being lazy."

Campfire 431453

>>431450
"They know you're all in here somewhere. Why would me being alive cause you any problems?"

Happyhorn [Dark Hunter] 431454

>>431453
"I guess not, when you put it that way."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431455

>>431447
"Perhaps she could come with us, and we could separate once we get closer to the end and the likelihood of us getting caught is lessened."

Campfire 431456

Pomelo [Preacher] 431457

>>431456
I roll my eyes a bit "don't you want to help free her friends? If we destroy the statue they should go back to normal since that's what made them go crazy."

Campfire 431460

>>431457
"Good."

>>431458
"That's fine."

>>431459
"Exactly! All I have to do is talk you past the ones in the room ahead, and ten all of you can smash the statue if whoever is in charge doesn't agree. Easy peasey."

Dreamkicker (Omniseer) 431461

>>431459
"That's a very interesting hypothesis you have there, Andelia. And were this a research expedition and not a fight for our very lives, I might be more amenable to going out of our way to test it."

Andelia (druid) 431462

>>431460
I nod "Easy, then why are we not doing that?"

Bessy [Soothsayer] 431463

>>431460
"Alright… let's do it then!"

Brutus [Male Buffalo Knight] 431464

>>431461
"Don't you have any faith at all? If not in the jenny, then at least in your friends?"

Campfire 431465

>>431462

>>431463

"She needs us, in we go."
And then I'll steam into the room as only an angry buffalo can. Shield Slam '1d10+1' on the nearest lycan that isn't Cloey.

You hear her introduce herself. One of the figures doesn't seem to recognize her, but another does. They talk for a few seconds until several more shapes leap out of the darkness and attack her.

You can only hear a few words. The rest is lost in the noise of an echoing river. Once the shapes pounce you can hear the sound of fighting.

[h]"It's me, Cloey. Where is-"
"Who are you?"
"It's Cloey, she's one of the other ones. Didn't you get killed?"
"Yes, but those people you trapped in her brought me back."
"Good for them. Still think that worshiping Tirek is a bad I idea?"
"It's a bad idea to even say his name!"
"Wrong answer."
Several shapes leap out of the darkness to attack her.

[h]You watch as she approaches two werlions. From the looks of one's face it doesn't recognize her, but the other does. They talk for a few seconds, but she apparantly says something wrong because the werlion scowls. The two she was talking to, and three others, attack her.
