A
state of emergency is being declared all over Equestria and the
neighboring lands. It is the time of the Dragon Migrations, an event
that only happens once every few decades. A perilous time even at the
best of times, with hundreds of dragons of all ages roam the land in
search of mating grounds. The death toll is often in the dozens even
during peaceful migrations, but this time, things are different.
A
hapless group of adventurers, seeking fortune, fame and divine
guidance, happened upon a shrine dedicated to a long-forgotten ancient
dragon, Old Ironhide. These adventurers destroyed the shrine, not
knowing their actions would lead to a chain of events that would reshape
the entire world. The destruction of the shrine lead to the return
of Old Ironhide. Thought dead, he seemed to have simply been imprisoned
instead. However, dragon history is a subject ponykind knows very little
about. As such, academics, historians and other ponies of suited skills
have rushed to find clues to the history of Ironhide, what his crimes
were, and how to stop him. Meanwhile the dread dragon is disrupting the dragon migrations, causing widespread chaos and havoc.
Many
heroes seek to protect Equestria from this beast, and your party is
among them. You must find out more about your foe, discover his
weakness, gather allies to face him, and somehow put an end to his reign
of terror.
You have gathered in Canterlot City. You have permission to use what they can offer.

After bickering for a while over who should be in charge, the party settles on the knight Max, who begrudgingly agrees. They
head on to the Canterlot Royal Archives to question the scholars there.
Once they reach the archives, a guard blocks their path. He seems
young and inexperienced, but big and burly. He says nobody is supposed
to disturb the scholars and tells you to piss off.

The
whole truth is, there are only so many who know of Ironhide, and this
was done on purpose. The story of his last appearance was so devastating
that it sapped the will to live from most who heard it. Only one copy
of the original records exists, but it seems someone had copied it again
in secret and is now spreading the news. The meeting was never supposed
to discuss what to do about the dragon, it was about how to contain the
info leak before everypone takes to looting and panic. They agree to
give you access to the original records in the basement vault, and
information regarding nearby dragon groups, as well as a few key
trinkets and other things that might help gain the trust of the dragons.
Go to the basement vault? Take their stuff but ignore the old book? Go straight to Celestia about this?

basement vault is hidden away at the back of the archives. There are no
visible guards, but you can tell there are many safeguards in place.
Magical shields, tripwire alarms, the works. The air in the vault is
still and thin. Hundreds of books lie there, each locked in a separate
glass case. There is no wood or cloth to be seen, only stone and glass.
The only source of light is a magical flameless lantern. The book you
are pointed to is thick and ragged. Seemingly written by dozens of
authors one after the other, you can see evidence of tear stains, the
writing growing weaker and messier over the pages until it is replaced
by another style altogether. Many numbers catch your eye. Thousands of casualties in Equestria alone, including ponies, pegasi, and even zebras. An ursa major and three ursa minors found dead. One hundred and four dragons slain. This is the price of Ironhide's passing.
At
the end, you find a map marking several locations in the mountains and
woods. Lines go from point to point, drawing a symbol. This is the seal
used to weaken and imprison Ironhide. It was made by some of the most
notable minds and mages of the past, and was designed to weaken a dragon
without doing much else. Perhaps one of the princesses, having lived in the time, would know more.
Go seek them out? Spend more time here looking for clues? Other?
The party heads out to the royal quarters. Along
the way you see some guards dragging a pony away. Said pony has a
dragon skull mark carved over his cutie mark. He also seems to be
yelling about how the end of the world is here.
As you arrive to the royal quarters, you are stopped by a large group of guards. They insist to know what your business is. Bluff? Present evidence?

guards listen to your story. They seem highly skeptical of Dawn, as she
could just as easily be a cultist as an adventurer, with those clothes,
moves and dagger. However Radiant's arguments, as well as Trusty's
incredible intense look help convince them you are indeed on the level.
The goat seems to be pretty cool too. They allow you to enter, and
dispatch some guards to mop up the library.
Seek out Celestia? Look around the royal quarters on your own?

over Canterlot Castle, or sweep past very closeby. In either case,
everyone in the city, including the princess, is in danger.

used to fight Ironhide. Some of the scholars butt in and say that an alliance with the other dragons would be a better plan. Celestia herself remains silent.
Go seek out the cult HQ? Go seek out dragon allies? Fortify Canterlot Castle and prepare to take Ironhide head on?
And we should eradictate all of those filthy heretic cultists before going to the dragons. At least we could tell them, "Hey, we killed the allies of the Big Bad"
The party has decided to seek out the death cult HQ. One
of the military advisers steps up and informs the party that they
captured one of the cultists alive earlier. Several others burst into
flames when capture was attempted. The one they did catch revealed
that the cult leader was a former scholar on Dragon History, and that
the initiations are held outside the castle, in a hidden cave said to
have once been a dragon lair. Supposedly one needs a special key of some kind to prove their membership and enter.

throw the bottle of Holy Water from Celestia's fountain to the fire
that blocks the exit and pray it will extiungish it, even if it's hardly
enough. Then I go back to fighting side-by-side with max.

consumed the oxygen in the cave and the fire is dying down. Smoke is
billowing from many pits around Canterlot, and there will be much

You
now hold the first key to saving this land - the ancient spell used to
weaken and bind Old Ironhide. If the historical records are correct,
this should be one of the three things you need to ensure victory. Next, you need to make a deal with the dragons. But will we do that now, or next time?
