Ironhide - Thread 1 DM 340164[Last 50 Posts]

Every journey begins with a single step.
But just how different would that journey have been, had that single step been taken differently?

A state of emergency is being declared all over the land. It is the time of the Dragon Migrations, an event that only happens once every few decades. A perilous time even at the best of times, with hundreds of dragons of all ages roam the land in search of mating grounds. The death toll is often in the dozens even during peaceful migrations, but this time, things are different.

A hapless group of adventurers, seeking fortune, fame and divine guidance, happened upon a shrine dedicated to a long-forgotten ancient dragon, Old Ironhide.
These adventurers destroyed the shrine, not knowing their actions would lead to a chain of events that would reshape the entire world.
The destruction of the shrine lead to the return of Old Ironhide. Thought long dead, he seemed to have simply been imprisoned instead. However, dragon history is a subject humenkind knows very little about. As such, academics, historians and others of suited skills have rushed to find clues to the history of Ironhide, what his crimes were, and how to stop him.
Meanwhile the dread dragon is disrupting the dragon migrations, causing widespread chaos and havoc.

Many heroes seek to protect their homeland from this beast, and your party is among them. You must find out more about your foe, discover his weakness, gather allies to face him, and somehow put an end to his reign of terror.

For this purpose, you have gathered in Grand Capital, the ancient seat of power for the Humen Empire. Though once ruled by a mighty Primordial, it now houses the three thrones of the Three Kings of the Humen, Demi and Bordfolk. As many seek shelter in the capital, you also know that the capital's resources are available for open use by any who have a valid reason to need them against Ironhide. Thus, several scholars from around the realm have gathered at the Imperial Archives to discuss the situation.

You have arrived at Grand Capital recently, well rested and ready for action.
Lets see what happens…

Eva [Spellsword] 340165

Where exactly are we

Ärnim [Knight] 340166

head to the archives. where the scholars are.

hopefully my size won't get in the way '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

Ärnim [Knight] 340167

Grand Capital (Canterlot), at the entrance.

Rale [Necromancer] 340168

Are we together in a group or all starting in the same area?

Aida [Cleric] 340169

Take a look around.

Roll #1 4 = 4

DM 340170

You are inside the gates of Grand Capital, in a small marketplace.
There are roads leading from here to the Imperial Palace and the Archives, to the Demi District, the Bord Houses, the Humen quarters, the Grand Market, the Imperial Guard HQ and Barracks, and the Gardens.
We can assume everyone came here as a collective party.

DM 340171

The area seems busy, with people rushing here and there, as well as a constant line of new arrivals pouring in from the gates.

Please put your RACE in the name field as well, thank you

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340172

"So where do we go now?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340173

"We must find the scholars, those dragons cost me the entire party I was with."

Rale [Necromancer] 340174

I go to the Achives and look for any information I can find about Old Ironhide.

Rale [Necromancer] 340175

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340176

I follow them.

DM 340180

At the Archives, the air is tense as scholars silently move from shelf to shelf, searching for material they need.
A few archivists and librarians are on call to help all in need of aid.

A note on the wall reads
>Emergency meeting in fourth floor grand hall. All Dragon Scholars should attend
Next to the note is a list of the floors
1 - Entrance, Common Lore, History
2 - Magic
3 - Nature, Biology, Animals
4 - Reading hall
Basement - Archives

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340181

I look at the note.
"Oh look, a meeting on the dragons. Maybe we should go there."

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340182

"Bah, it will be like going to see potatoes grow moldy in a cellar."

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340183

"But all Dragon Scholars will be there. They can tell us about Ironhide."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340184

"If you feel you should"
"Help us look, or don't help at all"

"We. Are not. Dragon. Scholars."
I go to the Nature, Biology, Animals section and starting looking for information on how dragon bodies work.

Roll #0 9 = 9

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340186

I roll my eyes.
I go to the magic section and look up for something about dragons.

Roll #1 3 = 3

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340187

I sigh and go alone to the dragon meeting.

Roll #1 5 = 5

DM 340188

[Biology of Dragons: By Jonathan Wyrmwrestler]
After some fruitless searching, an archivist taps you on the shoulder
"You seem lost?"
It seems a lot of scholars have gathered here. Most of them Humen, though Demi are also well represented. A few Bords and Aeons are among those present, and even two Drakin, as rare as they are are in Grand Capital.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340189

look for something about Ironhide in the archives '1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Mollika [Capra] 340190

Walk in nonchalantly.
"Hey big, what's the situation?"

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340191

I look over my shoulder
"I know exactly where I am, thank you. Do you have any books about dragons in this section?"

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340192

Go to listen to what the scholars are talking about

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340193

"Archives, looking for something on the Dragon Ironhide."
keep looking then mumble

Rale [Necromancer] 340194

I start reading it. What are the best ways to kill a dragon?

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340195

"What are we getting paid this time?"
Climb on top of him.
Then, start looking for books to help him.
'r2 1d10'

Roll #1 1 + 1 = 2 / Roll #2 3 = 3

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340196

"I want revenge against that thing. Any gold we find along the way will have to wait."

DM 340197

You locate a few scholars who are studying a large pile of books and historical records relating to the time Ironhide was last seen.
[-Dragons harden and grow with age. While a baby dragon as a rather spongy thing incapable of taking much punishment, a dragon of a dew decades of age can be as hard to crack open as a knight in full plate, and one of several centuries or more can be as tough as a boulder and as tall as a mountain. Specialized weapons are suggested for use in dragon hunting. Many prefer siege weapons, though hitting a dragon accurately with one is very difficult.
In any case, disabling a Dragon's wings is vital, as it eases fighting vastly-]
I'm not entirely sure how he feels about you climbing up the front…
"Thank you all for coming. I know this is unusual, but so are the circumstances. As you should know by now, Old Ironhide has been found to still be alive, and we may well be looking at a repeat of what Grand Capital faces a few centuries ago when he last attacked."

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340198

Also keep looking

Roll #1 2 = 2

Rale [Necromancer] 340199

I read on. How are their magical defenses?

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340200

Are there seats? If so, sit down and keep listening. If not, just keep listening.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340201

look at Mollika
"Don't ever do that. Again."
then head over to the scholars
"I require a… look through of the books you aren't reading."

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340202

"I slipped! You should stand still more!"
Follow him.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340203

pick her up and put her on my shoulders

Stand tall and be on the lookout for dangers.
"From now on I declare you my sniper's nest!"
Vantage point applies now, right?

Roll #0 9 + 1 = 10

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340205

"then don't shoot anything near my ear"

DM 340206

"No. Please try the next floor, in the Animals section."
[-Dragons are immune to all conventional forms of Pyromancy, and have shown immense resistance against both force damage and frost. However, Lightning damage, as well as some Dark Arts have proven slightly more effective. Some scholars argue a dragon's color relates to their magical capabilities. Others dismiss this idea as cliche and dumb.-]
There are some free seats left over.
"And what do you propose we do?"
"This time around we don't have a Primordial on our side!"
"Rest assured, gentlemen, that we have taken several measures to prepare for the coming storm. Our military is on high alert. And more importantly, we have sent word to the northern shipyards to prepare a special weapon to take the fight to Ironhide directly."
"Have you not heard? The Shipyards are almost under siege! The Drakin are being forced out of their cities by the Dragons who seek safe roosts! And they would rather wipe out our settlements than anger the Dragons!"
They look up, recoil a little, then settle back again
"A hork scholar?"
"Don't be like that. Not all horks are mindless boulder throwing brutes."
"Hm, yes, quite, my apologies."
"Please, help yourself."
You spot something creeping along the roof supports, making its way into the stairwell and heading up, staying out of sight.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340207

"Deal. I wouldn't want you to become even less reactive."
Pat the Hork on the head.
"Hey, shoot me up there!"
Point at the rafters.

I put the book back and go to the magic section. Any informative books on Necromancy?

Roll #0 6 = 6

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340209

grab one of the books and start reading it, hopefully I'll get something useful '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340210

look up, then back at the book
"I'm not a farshot, what am I supposed to do?"

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340211

This is worrisome.
Keep listening.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340212

"Just throw me. I saw something."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340213

pick her up and launch her at where she's pointing '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340214

Shrug and keep searching for some interesting spells.

Roll #1 7 = 7

DM 340216

[←- Dark Arts section: be prepared to present identification]
[-Among the more well known deeds of the Primordial Emperor was his triumph over the great dragon Ironhide. Wielding magic natural to his kind, he was able to weaken Ironhide notably, and wrestled him into submission in person, even though the massive beast dwarfed him in size.-]
"Then we trust the Shipyards will defend themselves."
"We need to send message to them. If at all possible, they need to ally with the Drakin for now to prevent any damage to the weapon."
"And what if that weapon is not enough?"
"We have only one other lead, and it is flimsy at best. We know Primordial Magic was able to weaken Ironhide."
"Oh great, great. So plan B is we find another Primordial. Sure."
"There is no need for sarcasm. This implies Ironhide may indeed not be a pure dragon, since Primordials were known as the natural, ancestral enemies of Tartarians."
"Are you suggesting Ironhide may be a corrupted dragon?"
The throw is good, but the aim is low.
Mollika slams nose first into the support beam
But at least falls down gracefully, if somewhat bloodied.
"Anything in particular you're looking for?"

"Kay, you need some glasses first thing as we get out of here."
Rub my head.
And then try to find a way to climb to the support beams.

Roll #0 8 + 1 = 9

Rale [Necromancer] 340218

I grumble.
"Ignorant. Fleshbags."
I go up to the meeting.

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340219

"You're still here? I'm trying to find something that can melt even the toughest and thickest armor."
I examine the person harassing me.

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340220

Keep listening, trying to remember everything.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340221

wince as she hits the beam
"My apologies! I'll bandage you up"

"…this will not be easy."
put the book down and go to the little capra. is that shadowy thing she's talking about still there? '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340222

Wave a hand at him dismissively.
"Later. Hunting now!"

DM 340223

There seems to be a shadow moving across the roof supports…
Oh hey, there's a maintenance ladder by the wall.
Welcome to the roof supports.
He is one of the librarians. A young humen.
"So, Pyromancy then? Unless you meant melting figuratively. In which case… well, Cryomancy can weaken an armour by freezing it, making it susceptible to shattering."
No, it went into the stairwell.
"If Ironhide is a dragon at all."
"That's ridiculous. What else would it be?"
"Depending on what made it, it could have originally been a-HURK!"
A dagger slams into the throat of the speaker.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340224

well shit. find a way to help the little capra from here, chase it or something BUT BE MINDFUL OF THE BOOKS '1d10'

Roll #1 1 = 1

A thief? I try to get up there.

Roll #0 1 = 1

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340226

Point a weapon at the shadow.
"Stop right there!"
Grin and move closer across the beam.

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340227

I widen my eyes in shock.
"Oh god."
I get up and run to the person that got hit.

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340228

"Cryomancy then. Give me something to work with here."
I try to look for a book about anti-armour spells. There's gotta be something.

Do I have to roll to chase after it?

Roll #0 5 + 1 = 6

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340230

Roll #1 5 = 5

DM 340231

In your hurry to get up, you ignore the world around you and end up painfully colliding, leaving both of you worse for wear.
It turns back to look at you, throws a dagger at you, opens its wings and leaps across to the top of the stairs, entering the fourth floor.
Roll to dodge the dagger.
He is bleeding out fast.
The other scholars are panicking.
Another screams as a second dagger hits him in the back.
"Cryomancy is usually used as a variant of the common magic Bolt or Orb. Do you happen to know either?"

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340232

"Yes, yes I do."
I throw an energy orb around his head.

Roll #1 1 + 2 = 3

And Vantage Point.

Roll #0 2 + 2 = 4

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340234

I grab him and try to get him behind cover.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340235

ah shit
pick up the aeon before rushing off again! '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

I run into the meeting room after hearing the screaming. Can I see the shadow?

Roll #0 7 = 7

DM 340237

It explodes on your face, sending you tumbling violently across the floor
"Oh my! Are you ok?"
The dagger leaves a nasty cut on your arm, but you are otherwise still ok.
You drag the wounded scholar behind a desk
He points at a bag next to one of the table legs.
You crush the Aeon a little and lumber to the fourth floor with him in hand
There are two up in the rafters

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340238

Roll #1 10 = 10

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340239

"How does it look?!"
Do I still have a face? I drag a hand over it.
Do I have to roll?

I Touch of Death whichever of the two that I hit.

Roll #0 4 + 2 = 6

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340241

"Just hold still. I'm a healer."

I carefully remove the daggers. '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

DM 340242

Rale is launched like a star-tailed missile at the shadows, and slams his hand onto the face of one of them, causing it to decay in his grip, and dropping the shadowy figure off the rafter.
Go ahead.
He gasps for air as blood pours out of him.

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340243

Roll #1 10 = 10

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340244

I say a quick prayer to the Celestial and use Heal.

Roll #1 6 + 2 = 8

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340245

If I can then rush over and hold the shadowy figure in place! with my shield if possible '1d10'

otherwise close the distance and have one of my shields out

Roll #1 4 = 4

I try to tackle the other one off the rafter and onto the floor.

Roll #0 7 = 7

That damn dagger!
Attack the vile! Marksman Shot!

Roll #0 10 = 10

DM 340248

You're fine. You just messed up your hair.
A little unusual to worship a dead demigod, but to each their own.
He gasps and then breathes calmly
"Th-thank you. Please. Get me out of here. I need to get this research I have to the Three Kings."
The shadow leaps back up and pulls another dagger, preparing for a fight
It seems to be a drakin.
You leap onto the other one and wrestle it off the rafter.
Both Drakin Assassins are now on the floor.
You fire a shot at the one about to engage Ärnim, hitting it in the back of the neck. Several scales splinter and it lurches heavily, falling over and grasping its neck.

One assassin is on the floor
The other is helpless

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340249

Sentry: Slam him with the shield in front of me

I use Touch of Death on the Helpless one. That's the one I used it on earlier, right?

Roll #0 9 + 2 = 11

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340251

or whichever isn't helpless

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340252

"Yes, I am fine. Usually that goes much better."
Try to light an orb in my hand.

Roll #1 1 + 2 = 3

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340253

>Twin deities of day and night, sun and moon, light and darkness.
Where does it say they're dead or a demigod?

"Okay, just wait for a moment." I grab the bag, put it beside him for safety, then take a peak across the desk to see if there is still danger.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340254

the DM says they are

DM 340255

Oh wait, derp, sorry about that, I had a brainfart moment and thought you meant the Primordial Emperor.
There is still a fight going on.
You extend your ethereal fingers and slam them into the drakin's heart, draining it empty of life.
She twitches and falls over, dead.
You slam into the other one, sending him tumbling. He struggles to remain up.
Aaaaand it explodes again.
Roll for damage.
-1 due to repeated failure

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340256

Roll #1 7 - 1 = 6

Rapid barrage to put them out of their misery.

Roll #0 2 + 2 = 4

I give a happy sigh as I watch it die, then draw my scythe and attack the other one.

Roll #0 1 = 1

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340259

I tell the scholar to stay hidden for a little longer and then fire an arrow at one of the assassins.

Roll #1 7 = 7

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340260

slam him into the ground but keep him alive '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

DM 340261

Your clothing looks a little ragged from that one.
"Ok… are you sure you know magic?"
He slashes at your face, then slips away from under you
The drakin leaps into the air and slams into you, heels first, crushing you against the floor.
Seeing you in the corner of his vision, the assassin flings another dagger at you, ripping a notable hole in your robe and messing up your inner energy, making you collapse.
However, Aida's arrow takes him by surprise, making him fall down as he tries to dislodge the arrow from the base of his tail.

I place a gloved hand over the hole and try to get back up.

Roll #0 6 = 6

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340263

"No, I am not. Not anymore."
I try to fling an orb at the roof.

Roll #1 8 + 2 = 10

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340264

Fire another arrow at the assassin.

Roll #1 3 = 3

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340266

Roll #1 8 = 8

If I'm down, get up.
If I'm up, get away, in Far.

Roll #0 8 = 8

DM 340268

A little patchwork should help.
You can get up. And you also let the dagger fall out from the bottom of the robe.
You fire an orb at the ceiling, and it passes through a knothole.
A rogue energy orb from the floor blasts the Drakin Assassin unconscious.
Looks like the floor took care of it for you.
Most of the Dragon Scholars have fled. A few are hiding.

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340269

"That's how it usually goes. Now did you have something useful for me or not?!"

Scratch my head with a confused look on my face.
"We… We should tie them up, I guess?"

Roll #0 2 = 2

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340271

break those arms, make sure he can't use 'em '1d10'
"Filthy scaly excuse for a dragon."
spit on him

Roll #1 8 = 8

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340272

Jump up and down and help him break them arms.
"Got a bone with them too, big pea?"

"See. To. The living. Assassin."
I pace a gloved hand on the chest of the dead assassin and use Commune.
"Perfect corpse. Speak. Explain. Your. Actions."

Roll #0 2 = 2

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340274

Fight over. That's my cue to leave.

Aida goes with the scholar to the rest of the group, tells them about the shipyards and how this scholar needs help getting to the Three Kings.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340275

"It scratched me. And you were following it little capra"

DM 340276

"Um… sure. There we go, Cryomancy basics. A rather heavy read, but it has a remarkably large selection of incantations and a really handy index for finding them."
You can feel it is angry.
And afraid.
But mostly angry.
I do not answer to you!
Have fun buddy
An easy job, considering he is out cold.
A loud crack later the arms dangle out uselessly on him, slowly swelling and turning purplish.

The Scholar crawls out from under his table
"I did not expect them to be here too…"

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340277

I take the book and flick through it while I walk upstairs to see where the orb went.

Roll #1 6 = 6

Make it hurt, if I can.
"You. Do not. Fear me. Enough. Answer. To me."

Roll #0 3 = 3

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340279

stand up over the thing, and scanfor any more around '1d10'
assuming we're in the scholar's meeting room
"It is over, for now. What do you have on the dragon Ironhide?"

Roll #1 7 = 7

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340280

"I was just wondering if they were more ghosts of your past you hadn't told me about."
Give him a big smile as I keep jumping around.
While the firefly talks with the ded keep looking around for…
Yeah, them guys and the dragon Ironhide.
Bollocks, Arnim beat me to it.
I'll just stick around with him.

DM 340281

It seems to be about a thousand pages of theory, and ten or so of actual formulas.
…there is a dead drakin on the floor, being molested by the aeon, and an unconscious one, being brutalized by the capra and hork.
I have no reason to fear you. None have a reason to fear any more. Ironhide is coming. And he will kill us all. We simply sought to save you from the pain he will bring.
All clear.
"I have reason to believe Ironhide is corrupted by Tartarian powers.
And that calling him 'dragon' might be quite inaccurate."

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340282

"So… He's a dragon not a dragon doing what he does because he wants to do it?"

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340283

"What the hell has happened here?"

"Then why. Target. Scholars?"

Roll #0 1 = 1

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340285

snort and shake my head
"If that is true.. what are we to do? And someone get a guard to take this thing away"

DM 340286

"I suspect he may be a mindless beast, born of hate and anger, twisted and given form by Tartar-"
The dead drakin suddenly bursts back into life, slammings its clawed hand into your hood, ripping at your essence.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340287

"Drakin blades."

Turn around and Marksman Shot the unded.

Roll #0 9 + 1 = 10

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340289

slam my shield into that undead drakin's claw '1d10'

"Stop playing with it"

Roll #1 1 = 1

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340290

I draw my sword and throw an orb at it.

Roll #1 2 + 2 = 4

I try to slice off it 's hand with my scythe and back away.

Roll #0 1 = 1

DM 340292

It digs the claw deeper into you.
You can feel it messing with your insides.
The sensation is what you assume fleshy races call intense nausea.
His problem is not helped by the fact that a Hork slammed into him, as the Undead Drakin used him as a shield.
You are a little tired from the previous miscasts, and fail to manifest a proper orb.
The Drakin leaps at you, arm still deep inside the helpless Aeon-
-but it stopped mid leap by a bullet exploding its head into wet chunks.
It collapses on the floor, dead once more.

"Not on my watch."
Blow smoke out of my gun and reach for Arnim, helping him up.

Roll #0 8 = 8

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340294

sigh deeply
"This is not what I came to this 'grand capital' for.."
look at one of the scholars
"What do you think we should do first? Who do we consult about this manner?"

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340295

I put my sword away.
"It's this damn city…they must have some sort of an anti-magic field…"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340296

I place both my hands over my hood.
"Patch! Healer! Help!"

DM 340297

The scholar from earlier takes his bag.
"We need to get my research to the Three Kings. I need to see if my assumptions are right."
"And someone please help the poor aeon!"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340298

"Come with me then, we'll go there."
wait for that guy to start then follow him, motion for the others to come

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340299

I follow.

Roll my eyes and climb him again.
"Catch a ride!"

Roll #0 6 + 1 = 7

I try to stand up.

Roll #0 9 = 9

DM 340302

A few of the Archive Guards come help you up and hand you some gauze.
"This way, please. We need to get to the Imperial Palace."

When you all are ready, you'll get there.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340303

Ready as ready can be.

"My. Thanks."
I try to patch myself up with that gauze.

Roll #0 2 = 2

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340305

I can't use that 9 or the useless 7 from earlier, can I.

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340306

I am ready.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340307

"Don't fall"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340308

DM 340309

End result: you are patched up but look a little ridiculous
You arrive at the Imperial Palace.
Looks a little run down, but still well maintained and regal.
The door guards let you in after the scholar explains your business, and guide you to the Throne Room.

The Three Kings, representatives of the three races of Humenkind, greet you
"We understand you have news for us?"
"Regarding the threat at hand, we presume?"
"Do speak then. For time is short."

The scholar offers the bag up, and a pair of darting shadows grasp in, and move silently and swiftly to the thrones, presenting the contents of the bag to the kings
"Thank you Cloak. Dagger."
"Please, remain with us."
"Provided the problems are taken care of."
>They are
>No more assassins remain alive in the palace
The voices of these identical assassins are harsh and whispered. Almost unearthly in how piercing it sounds.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340310

wait for them to speak up again

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340311

I stay silent.

Use my wantage point to spot around for troubles.
Or for those two pesky assassins.

Roll #0 9 + 1 = 10

Eva [Humen Spellsword] 340313

I wait.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340314

actually no, make a slight bow to them

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340315

Hold onto his shoulder and give a pissed look.

DM 340316

They seem to be standing silently.
But you can tell they could probably get across the entire room faster than you could pull a weapon.
"As you can see, majesties, several facts imply that Ironhide may well not be a dragon at all, though he appears like one.
For one, in times past, he seemed weak against the magic of the Primordial Emperor. This may well mean his strength is Tartarian in origin.
Of course that could still mean he is simply a corrupted dragon. Or a possessed one. However, the way he disrupts dragon mating, and actively seeks to break up the Dragon Migrations, implies he fosters a deep hate against dragons. One unlikely to be found in a dragon.
So to conclude, I have a reason to believe Ironhide, whatever he is, could be challenged with the use of Primordial artifacts."
The Kings think for a while
>With your permission
>We have some input of our own

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340317

I continue to stay quiet.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340318

"Big Pea.
Hey big pea."
Whisper to the Hork.
"Those two look strooong~"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340319

"What do you think little capra?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340320

If you wish to fight them, I would not suggest here.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340321

"Pff. Nah. I just thought they were cool!"
Grin at him.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340322

squint up at her, then look back towards the kings

DM 340323

"Go ahead"
>In light of these news, we know three things that may well be related
>For one, we interrogated one of the Drakin Cultists. We know they have a meeting in the caves not far from here.
>For another, we know an ancient altar exists somewhere in the area to the north. However, we do not know where, exactly
>And finally, we know many old tales make reference to an old shrine in the woods to the east, where a Primordial Artifact supposedly rests

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340324

whisper to the capra
"I'm going into those caves. You and the others should head to the mountain"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340325

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340326

I raise an arm and let it drop back to my side.
"If. I. May speak. I. Believe. The Drakin. Seek. To kill. Many. Before. Ironhide. Arrives."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340327

"Unless you want to come along"

"Your majesties, if you're willing, I would like to go down into the caves and investigate the cultists"

DM 340328

The kings nod
"Very well. That cultist meeting needs to be broken up."
"There are old maps that point to the location of the shrine in the Imperial Archives"
"And the north mountains do have a peak many legends say is cursed. So these things may be related."
"…but why?"
"Curse those drakin and their damned reverence of dragons…"
"Come now. It is but some fringe cult. Not like all the drakin in Unison have suddenly gone mad."
"Alone? Won't you need help?"
"We can give you some troops to help with the task"
>Or indeed we can come
>Unless we are needed elsewhere

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340329

Give him a flat look.
"Not going with the firefly that makes enemies even with the dead, for sure! You are not getting rid of me that easy!"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340330

"Should you feel… the need to, your help means a lot. If however you cannot spare any, then.. I will be fine. Where are these caves?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340331

"I never intended to."

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340332

"It. Said. They. Sought. To. Spare. The. Living. From pain. Why. They. Targeted. Scholars. I. Know. Not."

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340333

Giggle a bit.
"Ready to follow you chief!"

DM 340334

"Very well. Time is short."
"You will be divided into three groups."

"One will go to the caves, another to the shrine, and the last to the mountains.
You may divide as you please. And we will patch up any missing numbers with guards."
>We can also go in your place
>Provided you cannot go everywhere

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340335

"I wish. To. Visit. The caves. I. Also. Wish. To. Visit. A. Seamstress."
I gesture towards my hood and the hole in my chest area.

DM 340337

One of the kings motions to a guard, who salutes and runs off.
After a while he returns with a tailor
"So, who needs patching up, hm?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340338

"I will take to the caves, unless another wants to go in my place."

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340339

"Aww crap…"
Look at Arnim.
"Guess we gotta split for this one. I will look into the shrine."
Look at the assassins.
"One of you feels like backing me up?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340340

I turn to face the tailor.
"My. Shroud. Is. Damaged."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340341

"Stay safe"
then look to the kings
"I would require a healer, and a small contingent of guards"

DM 340342

>Which one?
…you can't tell one from the other
"Oh dear. Can't have that now can we?
…you mind if I patch you up as you stand? you Aeon-folk don't seem too fond with taking clothes off I recall."
"Take as many as you need."
"Ask the barracks at the Imperial Guard HQ"
"And all of you, take these signets. They prove you work for us directly, and will qualify as credentials for most places."
The Demi king levitates a box of signets to you

Dsty 340345

take one of the signets and put it on, bow to the kings and nod to the Capra and Aeon…

then head to the Guard HQ and show it to whoever's in charge

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340346

"Go. Ahead. Be. Careful. Removing. The. Gauze."

I take one when the box passes by me and slip the ring one one of my gloved fingers.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340347

damn you name

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340348

"Sounds the same to me."
Flip a coin.
1 - left one.
2 - right one.

Roll #1 1 = 1

DM 340350

They swap positions a few times
>Which one was that again?
>Are you sure of your decision?

DM 340352

The tailor works as well as he can
Lets see how good the fixes look
The guards at the door stop you
"Halt! What business do you have?"

Roll #1 4 + 2 = 6

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340354

Give them a flat look.
"Okay. I choose the most skilled."
Grin at them.

DM 340355

Suddenly they are both behind you
>Well, here we are
>We should make haste

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340356

"here by permission of the three kings"
show them the signet
"by their… request, I am to ask for some guards to accompany me. And a healer if there is one"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340357

Roll my eyes.
"My friend over there could use some help too, you know."
Point them towards the Hork.

Brenya [Rogue] 340358

Where am I?

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340359

"That. Feels. Better. Have you. Any. Martial. Skill?"

DM 340361

You are in your room, doing your hair or some shit.
You should be with your bosses, Spymasters Cloak and Dagger, in the throne room.
"Very well. The Captain can deal with this. Right this way."
They take you to see the captain
"One of the Kings' agents. Needs protection and a healer."
"Right. Well, hork. Lets heat the whole story then?"
"Not really, no. I am a tailor, not a fighter."
>I believe he is well taken care of
>Don't expect us to give you any rides though

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340363

"You are both small. No fun to climb, you know!"
Start walking out of here.
"So, mountains to the north?"

Brenya [Rogue] 340364

I should be in one place but am currently in another?

That's bad news.
Put on my cloak and mask and head over there.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340365

"I am investigating some caves that were… said to contain some cultists, drakin I think. I'm not sure how many or what their, purpose. At the very least, a healer will do."
then point to my cut face
"One of two drakin did this in the archives"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340367

"Pity. I. May. Seek. You. When. I. Return."
I go to the guard barracks.

DM 340370

>The shrine is in the woods
>The altar in the mountains
Looks like an aeon and a capra are here
>There you are
>We are splitting up to cover more ground. A hork left for the caves to the west to stop a cultist ritual.
"Drakin cultists… Yes. Very well. I will give you three soldiers and one of our field medics. Go ask for them at the barracks downstairs."
Looks like the hork is here too.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340372

"Aeon, are you better?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340373

I show the signet.
"I. Need. A. Healer. And. Guards."

"Yes. Are. We. Going. To. The caves. Together?"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340374

"To the altar we g-
Is she coming too?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340376

"…no. Do you wish to have that part instead?"

Brenya [Rogue] 340377

I give a curt bow and head off to find this Hork without saying anything more

DM 340379

>She will assist the others
"Huh? You too? I just promised the hork three guards and a field medic!"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340380

"Fine by me, let's go!"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340382

"Death. Knows. Death."

"I. Will. Not. Go. Alone. I. Have. No. Desire. To. Rejoin. The. Aether. Yet. There. Are. Three. Things. To do. And. Only. A Hork. A Capra. And I."

DM 340383

You may also refuse and go with Ärnim instead

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340385

"I am heading to a forest to the east.. one other thing among three. I still need at least the medic. The guards if you're willing will be most… helpful"

Brenya [Rogue] 340387

I stand next to him, arms crossed and keeping quiet

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340388

And Nimmy said he'd go to the caves.
I hate caves.
The mountains, on the other hand…
Let's keep going.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340389

Oh, and ask the two guys something.
"So, what are your names again?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340390

"But. If. You. Are. Shorthanded. I. Can. Produce. My Own. Guard. All. I. Require. Is. A. Magical. Healer. Preferably. One. Skilled. With. A. Needle."

DM 340391

Arnim and Mollika will go to the woods, with a medic in tow
Brenya and Rale to the caves with three guards and a second medic
Cloak and Dagger will deal with the mountain.

Are we good with this?

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340392

Bang bang.

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340393

Works for me.

Brenya [Rogue] 340394

In that case, I will go stand next to the walking astro lamp instead

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340396

sure that works

take the medic and head out and wait for the capra

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340397

Climb him.
"For a moment, I almost missed you. Then I remembered the smell.
That's when I got really malenchonic."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340398

shake her off '1d10'

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340401

"Uhhh! Is this a new exercise?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340402

"You. Are not. A. Common. Soldier?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340403

"Yes, one that might lead you to a broken arm"

DM 340405

You head out west and arrive to the cave system.
One of the guards speaks up
"We have limited knowledge of these caves, but we know they don't really connect to other caves a lot. So there will be few exits to flee from."
You reach the edge of the woods
The combat medic keeps up as best he can
"Oh THESE woods…
…we best be careful. I've read about this place. The soil is very remarkable here, and several special plants grow in the area.
…some of them very dangerous."

I turn my head to look at him and shake it.
"Good catch."

Right, time for Stealth

Roll #0 10 + 2 = 12

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340407

"Is it because I said I missed you?
I can just say I miss your smell!"
"Aww, I can't chew on random glowing leaves?"
Look honestly disappointed.

DM 340409

"Nor should you smell any of the plants."
The soldiers await orders

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340411

"un.. right"
head in and scan around '1d10'
"You're not making it any better.. or less worse"

Roll #1 8 = 8

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340413

"That's gonna be easy."
I'm sitting on top of an hulking mountain of smell, after all.
Let's keep watch.
"Okay, gonna zip it!"

Roll #1 2 + 1 = 3

Brenya [Rogue] 340415

Sneakily move my mouth to where I presume his ear is
"What's your name?"

DM 340417

Wooow… look at all the neat stuff here! It's so colourful. And strange. And interesting. And confusing…
You notice an old path that has been long since covered by plantlife.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340419

Good thing the Hork is carrying me.
"Pwetty stuff!"
Roll around.
"Hey doc, what do thse plants do to ponies?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340420

"Rale. Go. Open. A path. For. Us. Silently. So that. We. May. Fall. Upon. Them. Without. Warning."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340421

follow the path, keep looking out for other things '1d10'

"What do you know of this forest medic?"

Roll #1 9 = 9

Brenya [Rogue] 340422

"Rale… I heard you the first time, yes."
Head into the caves

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340423

I wait a few seconds and follow behind her, but stop before we move out of whatever cover we are in right now.

DM 340424

There seems to be some movement up ahead. A small creature. About the size of a capra.
"As I said, it's very fertile. I believe it used to be a holy site at one point, but as knowledge of the dangers of the plantlife spread, the amount of visitors dwindled.
Some might also say the supposed holiness of this place was all because of the hallucinations of those who came here."
"I don't know. I'm not a vet. But to most races they cause intense hallucina-"
He stops
"-…I just stepped in one didn't I?"
The largest cave bears some marks of it being used for something. There are some footprints on the floor, and claw marks on a wall.

Brenya [Rogue] 340426

"I love what they've done with the place."
Keep taking point

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340429

Once I'm sure the entrance is clear I follow her with the guards, being sure to keep about fifteen seconds between us.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340430

"Depends. Are you seeing absourd things like a capra dangling with her head upside down across the back of a huge, strong, green hork?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340431

mark that small creature, then turn back to the medic and look down. what did he step in? '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340432

As he turns around, take out my gun and line a shot with the creature.
Just look at it.

Roll #1 10 + 1 = 11

DM 340434

Three Drakin stand guard a little deeper inside.
He stepped on a mushroom.
It's a walking mushroom.
Well… walking is a little generous. Waddling.
About your size.

Brenya [Rogue] 340435

I stop, keeping to the shadows and looking at what the group decides to do.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340436

"Hold your breath"
then hurry back and yank him from the mushroom and zoom away

towards the moving thing ahead.

Roll #1 1 = 1

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340439

"Hey big bowl of soup, why is a giant murshroom looking at us with a grim stare?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340440

I point to her, then the Drakin in the middle, then myself and the Drakin on the right, then the guards and the Drakin on the left.
"Understood. Everyone?"

Brenya [Rogue] 340441

Backstab the middle Drakin.

I run towards them and Touch of Death the Drakin on the right.

Roll #0 10 + 2 = 12

DM 340446

In your hurry, you trip and land face first in a big pile of colourful mushrooms and flowers.
…everything seems a little more vibrant all of a sudden…
The guards nod.
You dash out of cover and slam your ethereal hand through the heart of the guard. He does not even make a sound as he slumps over, drained of life.

Roll #0 4 = 4

"Oh you big…"
Get up.
Or help him up if he's down.
Or shake these flowers off if we are both up.

Roll #0 6 = 6

I keep my hand inside him and use Raise Dead.

Roll #0 2 = 2

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340452

"Shi-l… fuh.."

Roll #1 5 = 5

DM 340453

Nothing. Not even a twitch.
As you ponder what went wrong, the Drakin in the middle jams a sword in your back.
Missing your mark by a second or so, the guard turns around and backhands you across the face with a meaty slap.
Meanwhile, the guards pin down and knock out the third sentry.
The woods sure look pretty.
You can hear someone running ahead. From the sound of it, towards you.

I shift off his sword and try to Touch of Death him.

Roll #0 9 = 9

Backstab once more

Roll #0 4 = 4

Sure I must be ready!
"Hey big, we are so screwed.."
Start giggling a bit as I try to focus on the incoming sounds.

Roll #0 7 = 7

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340457

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340459

"Ged uhp.. Medic, do yu hav anythi fur this?"

Roll #1 5 = 5

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340462

Use that 7 to help him up if "huge" doesn't apply.

DM 340463

A second hard backhand.
It reminds you of the time you asked a nice guy if he'd fancy a little alone time, and called his wife a hoarding sack of cunts after he refused.
You move and jam your hand into his heart as well, rotting it where it sits.
So much for the sentries.
You are both up, and clean.
A knight stumbles over some bushes, falls over, gets up, trips over a root, and lands on his face in front of you

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340464

"He must be higher than me right now…
We pull him up?"

I plunge one hand into the rotted much of his head and the other into his head. Raise Dead.

Roll #0 10 = 10

I'm not sure where you heard that rumor from. I assure you my side of the story is completely different.

Either way, back to Stealth

Roll #0 4 + 2 = 6

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340468

"You, knight. Why are you here?"

DM 340472

You hide again, and are ready to move forward
The Drakin lurches back up
I serve
"I came seeking the shrine. Please, you must help me! The mushrooms! They are after me!"

Brenya [Rogue] 340473

Move onward then

"You mean those short things?"
Look at him quizzically, but help him up.

Roll #0 6 = 6

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340477

"We seek the shrine as well. However I will only help youif you take us further into the forest"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340478

I use my scythe to cut the throat of the last living sentry then follow a ways behind Brenya.
"Guards. Follow. Minion. How. Many. Still. Live. Here?"

DM 340479

It seems the area is opening up.
Though you are deeper underground now, it seems there is more light, implying there are torches ahead.
The others gather at the bottom. We number a few dozen.
"Yes! Yes I can… I can show the way just keep the AAARGH HERE THEY COME!"
One of the mushrooms waddles towards you, trips over itself, and flails helplessly on its face

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340480

"They don't look that intimidating…"
Climb back on top of Arnim.
This clearly is no big deal.
"So, you coming or pissing yourself some more?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340482

"Vanishing. Humen. Tell us. What. Lies. Ahead."

"What. Is. Your. Purpose. Beyond. Slaughter?"

Brenya [Rogue] 340483

Keep to the shadows and stay on the prowl

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340484

look at it, then slowly turn to the knight
"…this thing is not dangerous. If you cannot hold your self against something as small as.. that. then You are of no use to us"
motion the medic to follow us, and keep a lookout for anything else suspicious '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

DM 340488

The knight shakily holds up his shield and starts walking ahead of you, constantly shifting his gaze to peer into the woods.
"T-the shrine is near a pond in the c-center of the woods.
…t-that is where my comrades d-died."
We seek to pay tribute to our god Ironhide. We seek to be accepted and spared.
The torches are lighting the back of the cave. There is some kind of meeting going on. At least two other exists are visible. One has a curtain over it.

Brenya [Rogue] 340490

See where the uncurtained exit leads to

Keep looking out for danger.

Roll #0 9 + 1 = 10

DM 340493

It seems to be a smaller tunnel. Your sense of direction says it leads back towards Grand Capital.

Brenya [Rogue] 340494

Peek behind the curtain

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340497

"Then lead us there, I will not ask you to go any further."
look out for the pond, '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340498

"I. Should. Have. Guessed. It. Is. The. Nature. Of. Flesh. To. Fear. Death."
I look at the guards.
"Can. Any. Of. You. Engage. At. A. Distance?"

DM 340499

"K-killed by the m-mushrooms…"
Three little mushrooms are walking around in a little line.
One bumps into a tree. The other two bump into him. All three fall over.
You sneak past the gathered cultists and head to the other side of the room.
Sliding past the curtain, you find a room with a bed, some incense burners, jugs of wine, and a sleeping drakin.
"T-the pond is past those trees there. T-the shrine is on t-the other side.
A-and do NOT look into the well!"
One of them salutes
"I know how to use a rifle."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340500

"Will do."
nod to him then head further. Look for the pond and the well '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340501

"Okay. Either you are out of your ass on colorful leaves or those are dangerous."

Turn to Arnim.
"We should avoid them. Three of them in total, they seem slow enough."

Brenya [Rogue] 340503

Go back to the rest of the group.

"Room with meeting ahead. One exit aside from this one. Caution is adviced."
With that, return back to the other exit and lurk in the shadows

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340507

"You too? Should I step on one to show how harmless they are?"

DM 340509

Oh hey look, that's the pond right theHOLY SHIT YOU TRIPPED ON THE WELL ROLL NOT TO FALL IN
You go keep watch from the small tunnel

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340510

"Only. You? Very. Well. You. Will. Begin. Firing. Once. The. Humen. Reveals. Herself. To. Them."

"Humen. Kill. One. Of them. We. Will. Follow. You."
I lead the guards as far forwards as I can without us being seen, but leave the guard with a rifle back at a safer distance where he won't be closed on immediately. After that I stop and wait for Brenya to make her move.

Fuck! Jump off and pull him back!

Roll #0 6 + 1 = 7

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340512

Roll #1 2 = 2

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340513

"You smelly bundle of hairs!"
Keep holding him.
I hope I am holding him.

DM 340516

You are like a quarter his size.
You fall a short way into the well, but get stopped by the crushed, mangled body of a knight.
By the looks of him something incredibly strong smashed him and threw him down here.
The guard nods to signal he is ready

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340518

"Minion. Serve. The. Vanishing. Female. As. If. She. Were. Me."

Sneak up and backstab one of the cultists at the meeting

Roll #0 2 = 2

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340520

Goddamnit! Next time I choose someone to carry me, he'll be a ranger.

Yell to Arnim
"Are you okay down there?"

DM 340521

As you desire.
His feet are still outside the well. He is too big to really fall down all the way.
You swish your strike and land on your face. Amateur.
The entire cave turns around.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340522

well! can I discern when he fell down the well? '1d10'

"If I wasn't then I wouldn't answer you"

Roll #1 9 = 9

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340523

second roll '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Can I master my inhumen (because I'm a capra, get it? eh) strength and pull him out?
"Help me, you two!"
Yell towards the medic and knight. If the knight is still following.
"I'll take that as a no. You must have hit your head so damn hard!"

Roll #0 8 = 8

It's these damn Saturdays

I always lose my shit on these damn Saturdays

Backstab again
That minion and the rest of the group can aid me

Roll #0 6, 10 = 16

DM 340528

Together you get the hork and dead knight out of the well.
The knight you met looks at his dead friend sadly, then looks up and screams.
He is pointing wildly ahead.
You hop out of the way and stab one of the cultists, as the undead charges ahead and slams into another breaking its neck on impact

Rinse and repeat

Roll #0 8, 4 = 12

Guns out, find a vantage point that's not Arnim and aim at where the knight is pointing.
Can I see anything?

Roll #0 2 + 1 = 3

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340532

look where he's pointing! '1d10'

and pull out my shields!

Roll #1 10 = 10

DM 340534

Your blade finds a good spot between the drakin's scales and armour, and she yelps as you draw blood.
Meanwhile, the undead is getting overwhelmed.
The rifle guard opens fire, killing the Drakin you are fighting.
The two others rush out to engage.
Ten cultists remain.
Looks like there is another corpse.
Seemingly pulled inside out and shoved through a tree trunk.
A much larger mushroom also lumbers in the distance.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340537

"Well… there's that. Capra, can you hit it from here?"

"Okay, this is getting creepy.
We found the shrine, no? Time to look for what we came for and go. Quick."
Speak with uneasy voice.

Then, inspect the shrine.

"Of course I can. But do you see how bit it is? My shots would tickle him."

Roll #0 7 + 1 = 8

Help out the undead with a nice round of Backstab while he fights back

Roll #0 3, 2 = 5

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340541

"Then lets be quick, come you two"
head off. where is that pond? is it near? can I inspect it or look from there to see the shrine? '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

DM 340547

The mushroom stands between it and you.
The pond is on your left.
The shrine is ahead, past the giant mushroom.
You are vastly outnumbered and the outlook is starting to look grim.
Their blows rain heavy.
You won't stay standing for long…

Sigh, look up at my pal.
"We gotta fight through this one, I guess."
Climb a tree.

Roll #0 4 + 1 = 5

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340550

"…Capra, Medic, stay behind me."
keep my shields out and close the distance between me and the mushroom, lets see how close I can get before it notices me

I'm not down just yet
Keep at it
I'm not alone for once after all

Roll #0 5, 5 = 10

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340553

'1d10' if needed

Roll #1 1 = 1

DM 340554

A mushroom is sitting on the same branch as you. It boops your nose.
It just stands there. Observing the smaller mushrooms as they bumble around.
You then step on one of the small ones.
The large one turns to face you.
Before you can even react, a massive punch sends you flying. You smash through a tree and almost fall unconscious.
From one punch.
The mushroom looks very, very angry.
For a mushroom.
The knight faints.
The guards begin a retreat towards the exit tunnel
You evade blows left and right, but can't really land proper counters.

Murshrooms are supposed to be at the base of trees!
Slide down, assuming there's distance between me and the big one shoot at it.
Marksman Shot.

Roll #0 7 + 1 = 8

"Don't retreat. Fight. Follow my example."
Gut one of the cultists with my sword

Roll #0 3, 2 = 5

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340557

"Ow.. that.. hurt."
get up, dust myself off and reenter battle! '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340558

"Doc! Get my ride home up!"

DM 340559

You fire a shot at it, blowing off a chunk of its body.
As the mushroom turns to face Mollika, you punch it back, causing it to reel slightly
A massive strike over the head makes you collapse helplessly.
The undead leaps in to protect you, but is cut down in the process.
"Yes miss"
Heal on Ärnim

Roll #1 5 = 5

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340561

good! Now slam it's shit into the ground! '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

"Thanks buddy!"
Pew Pew.
Rapid barrage the shroom!

Roll #0 8 + 3 = 11

DM 340566

Oh wait no. It wasn't reeling. It was winding up.
The punch launches you through another tree, leaving you helplessly on the ground.
Seeing your friend go down helps give you a reason to really give it hell.
A barrage of shots later it is starting to look more like cheese than fungus.

Escape Artist
"Maybe I spoke too soon."
Leg it out of there with the guards, too many of them!

Roll #0 2 = 2

"Damnit Fatass! Don't let a soup to be take you down!"
Seal the deal and shoot the thing clean!

Roll #0 7 + 1 = 8

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340572

urgh! get up! '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

DM 340577

You are forced into the tunnel. You can try to make a stand here, flee down it, or leave the guards and leg it.
It slowly turns to face you as you blast another chunk off
The doctor runs to you
"Easy… lets get you up big guy"

Roll #1 5 = 5

We flee together! This can be done on a different day!

Roll #0 3 = 3

Well I'm still Far from it.
Shoot again!
"Damnit guys! He's coming this way!"

Roll #0 9 + 1 = 10

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340581

fucking fives

am i up?

if not then get up 'r2 1d10'

Roll #1 7, 1 = 8 / Roll #2 6 = 6

DM 340583

As Mollika's shot finally forces the mushroom to a knee, Ärnim slams into it from behind, breaking it in half.
However, his charge was a little overzealous, and ends with him slamming into the tree Mollika climbed earlier.
The small mushroom falls off its branch, bounces off Ärnim, angrily kicks him in the butt and then waddles off.
You flee down the tunnel but hear one of the guards get cut down.
The tunnel ends in a long ladder.

Start climbing!

Roll #0 6 = 6

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340586

"damn things"
get up '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Offer him a hand.
"Ush, you were a perfect distraction. Gave me all the time I needed to pierce that guy."

Roll #0 3 = 3

DM 340590

You make good time up the ladder, with the rear guard shooting his rifle downwards to stop the cultists.
Ultimately you come to a lid at the top.
And up you are.
The knight shakily pokes the dead mushroom
"T-the shrine is right over there…"

Holster my guns and climb the big guy once more, tending to his more serious wounds with some gauze.
"We go over there my walking tank?"

Roll #0 1 = 1

Brenya [Rogue] 340592

Open it up and crawl out, helping those coming out behind me

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340593

head to the shrine, inspect what's there

DM 340594

You really need to stop climbing up the front. Your hooves can't feel too nice.
Also you made his pants drop.
…huh. You're back in Grand Capital. Looks like you climbed out of a well.
There is a guard patrol nearby.

But he's my vantage point! Fix his pants.

Roll #0 10 = 10

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340596

"I. Told you. to stop that."

ROLLING '1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340597

"I keep slipping!"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340598

"You are too high up to slip on my pants!"

DM 340599

The pants are up.
The shrine is not large. It contains a small chest on top of an altar, a statue of a Primordial, and some bowls for offerings.

Brenya [Rogue] 340600

Quickly motion them over and tell them where this connects to

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340601

"Not when I climb you, no!
And the big green pea who got almost flatlined by a walking murshroom should really thank me instead!
Damn, those are just pants, I don't even wear them!"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340602

look inside the bowls, anything I can offer as a sign of respect? '1d10'

also look at the chest, see if it's trapped 'r2 1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9 / Roll #2 10 = 10

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340603

"Saving me is one thing. And using my pants as a stepping rope is another! I thank you for saving me but that doesn't allow you to pull. my. pants."

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340604

"Then pull me up.
I like the view!"

DM 340605

A few moments later a full battle is raging at the well, with guards shooting wildly down it
Looks like there are some fruit here,
And the chest is just a chest. Nothing special. Not even a lock.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340606

pull her up on my shoulders
drop some food in the bowl, just in case. and then take the chest and start back to the Capital

"A job well finished, no?"

Brenya [Rogue] 340607

That certainly could have gone better.

How many of our guards died?

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340608

"Yeah. Too bad for the knights who came here before us…"
Sit relaxed on his shoulder with a big smile.
Its nice to have a personal walking mountain.

Ready to go back to the capital.

DM 340609

As you head out of the shrine, your heads feel a lot more clear.
…there seems to be a severely beat up tree stump out here with a lot of bullet holes in it.
Also, three skeletons.
The doctor seems to have fallen asleep.

Roll #1 2 = 2

DM 340610

It was a massacre.
At the end of it all, you lost almost as many guards as they lost cultists.
But for what it was worth, the survivors returned with some documents taken from the cave, including some stolen historical records.

What the hell…
Inspect the place.

Roll #0 2 + 1 = 3

DM 340612

Well someone with a similar gun to yours shot the fuck out of that stump.
And these skeletons are all wearing armour.

I've never been one for these kind of missions
… Can I go back down there and see if there is anything shiny I could grab?

Roll #0 1 = 1

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340614

grab the doctor and put him on my other shoulder…

once back at the capital, go to the Guard HQ and drop off the medic
"He should get looked at"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340615

How old do they happear to be?
Gracefully climb down and walk for the rest of the trip.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340616

"What's the matter?"

DM 340617

There is nothing left there but corpses and death.
The guards brought everything useful along.
Several centuries.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340618

Smile at him.
"You gotta take care of him."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340619

Brenya [Rogue] 340620

The Spymasters will be upset too, probably.
Head back there

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340621

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340622

"So. Much. Death."
I return to the Imperial Palace.

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340623

DM 340624

It seems the spymasters return as well. Slightly bloodied and a little tattered, but as straight-backed as ever.
"We are glad to see you all made it back"
"So tell us, what news?"
"Time grows ever shorter. We need a plan."

Brenya [Rogue] 340625

Show them the documents we found

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340626

I'll let Arnim speak. No idea what he found at the altar after all.

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340627

Let the others do the talking.

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340628

"Documents. And. Records. Were. Found. I have. Not. Had. The chance. To. Read. Them."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340629

bow a little, then present the chest
"We recovered this It's not opened yet from what I know."

DM 340630

"So this is why the archivists could not come up with solid facts. The records from the year of Ironhide's first appearance had been stolen by cultists…"
"Incredible. This chest contains a fragment of an ancient Primordial's weapon. I'm sure our mages can still awaken the power inside it!"
"And what of you, spymasters?"
>Upon the northern peaks we found a hidden altar.
>An alter to dark powers, with a deep sense of corruption to it
>We were ambushed up there, but fought them off
>And in the process, we recovered this
They present an antiquated sword
>The sword of Sir Valiance
>From the taint you can see upon it, we fear we now have an idea what Ironhide is. Or rather… who he is.
"Sir Valiance?"
"THE Sir Valiance?"
"Sir Valiance Dragonbane? Impossible."
>Very possible.
>It explains Ironhide's rage against its fellow dragons. It explains his iron… hide. It explains why it seeks to return here.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340631

"So what will happen now?"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340632

"How exactly did a dragonslayer become a dragon?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340633

"Please. Explain. Further."

Brenya [Rogue] 340634

"Yes. This question. Exactly the same one I was going to ask."

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340635

Keep listening.

DM 340636

"Sir Valiance was a hero of the Empire hundreds of years ago. A faithful servant of the Primordial Emperor, he was tasked with keeping Grand Capital safe during the Dragon Migrations."
"It was believed he left for exile after being relieved from duty following a scandal involving him destroying clutches of dragon eggs and hatchlings"
"It seems he instead chose to turn to darker powers for strength, to finish his duty."
>Though his prowess in battle was matched only by his stubborn head
>There was one capable of calming him. His old mentor and commander, Captain Graceful Glory.
>Sadly, the captain has been dead for centuries
>So he is not going to be much help as-is.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340637

"Okay. What about just shooting Ironhide dead instead?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340638

"He. Can. Be. Raised."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340639

"Then we must make ready for Ironhide's return. Stamp out this threat to both dragon and the land!"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340640

"He… But this Captain Glory has been dead for centuries"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340641

"You would need a loooot of life to raise something that old."

DM 340642

"Under normal conditions we would never allow that"
"But… Sir Valiance was a great warrior once"
"We would hate to see him die as a monster, if it can be helped."
"As said, if at all possible…"
"…we would rather try and free the spirit of Sir Valiance than slay him as a monster"
"Not to mention, it would save a lot of lives to not let him reach Grand Capital."
>We have lives to spare
>Even lives who know how to raise the dead

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340643

"Why do that when we have the necessary weapons to destroy that thing now?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340644

"…Where is this captain and who will sacrifice themselves?"

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340646

"We cannot just sacrifice all those lives to raise one person."

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340647

"A. Wise. Choice. Where. Is. He. Buried?"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340648

"Beats me."
"Wake me up when you decide who I have to shoot."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340649

take a deep sigh
"We dont.. we risk all who live here."

DM 340650

"Because if it is true the captain could calm him"
"We would at least get an easier shot"
"Even if nothing more came of it"
>We have criminals to spare
>Dark artists. Murderers. Other scum.
"The tomb of heroes is located under the palace."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340651

"Then do the murderers. Lets go"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340652

"Valience. Sounds. Like. A. Wise. Purchase."

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340653

I bite my lip.
"No. No. We can't just sacrifice anyone's life for this." I look around for support. "Just..just let me go to the library. I'll find an alternative."

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340654

"Someone smaller than I, follow her and then lead her to us if she does.. or doesn't"

DM 340655

"Without the Captain at our side, all we can really do is try and hammer Ironhide with artillery until it collapses"
"And then use the Primordial Fragment and hope."
"We don't really see many other options."

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340656

"Look, is some good to nothing dark artist who probably tried to murder somepony just for the same end.
I call it karma. No big question of wrong or right."

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340657

I look at the party, hoping someone will follow me.

"That's because you haven't looked."

"I can't let people die for some plan we don't even know will work. Not until I'm sure there arent better alternatives."

DM 340658

You can make a call

Go revive Captain Graceful Glory
Contact the Shipyards and ask them to send the secret weapon as you make preparations here

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340659

"A. Price. Must. Be. Paid. To. Defeat. Ironhide. A Butcher's. Bill. I've. Hear. It. Called."

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340660

Graceful Glory

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340661

Or both. Why not both?

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340662

slowly approach Cloak and Dagger, my hands open so hopefully they know I won't try anything
"Where is the tomb? I'll follow the humen, and then lead her to tombs when she's finished.
"I will catch up"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340663

Both of course.

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340664

Remain on his shoulder, of course.

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340665

I look up at him with a tiny spark of hope in my eyes.

DM 340666

>We will lead the way to the tombs
>And we will bring expendable meat
>Meet us at the palace entrance hall
>And be ready
They vanish into thin air

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340667

Ok Satan

"Lets go Humen"
follow the humen to the archives, then help look '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Help look!
"What we look for?"

Roll #0 9 + 1 = 10

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340669

I look at the kings.
"Do. We. Receive. Payment. For. Our. Services? I. Could. Use. Something. To. Augment. My. Vessel. If. A. Dragon. Is. Coming."

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340670

Go to the archives and look around for books on raising the dead, more specifically how to do it without sacrificing a lot of people.

Roll #1 4 = 4

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340671

"Whatever the female humen is"

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340672

"Messing with the immortal souls, got it!"

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340673

"Necromancy, raising the dead specifically"

DM 340674

"What would you need?"
You show your signets are are granted access to the Dark Arts wing of the Magic library.
[Necromancy - Collected Research]

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340675

I shudder. Roll to not show how uncomfortable I am.

Roll #1 4 = 4

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340676

start looking through the lower shelves while the capra stands on my shoulders and looks through the higher shelves '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340677

"Some. Sort. Of. Armor. To. Inhabit. Should. My. Vessel. Be. Incinerated. Enchanted. So. It. Will. Not. Melt. In. Ironhide's. Fires."

"Aaaah yes."
So. Resurrection and stuff.
That's cool.
"I had a grandpa really into this stuff. He was a Zivhur. Don't ask me how he could be my grandpa at all."
I guess we need… Energy. Life channeling.

Roll #0 6 + 1 = 7

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340679

I halt a few seconds before entering the Dark Arts Wing, gathering the courage to go in.
I take a deep breath.
"Let's see if we can find something."

Roll #1 4 = 4

DM 340680

"We don't really have things that wouldn't melt in dragonfire"
"Unless you're fond of the idea of trying to inhabit a mountain or something"
"But we CAN offer some non-flammable robes."
[Resurrection: Lightest of the dark arts, or darkest of the light arts? - By: A. Gote]

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340681

"Well here ya go humen. Now get dat book away from me before I get hungry."

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340682

I take the book gratefully.
Now let's take a look inside.

Roll #1 10 = 10

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340683

head to one of the librarians and ask if we can borrow the book '1d10'

Roll #1 1 = 1

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340684

"Obviously. Nothing. Can. Survive. A direct. Hit. A. Whole. New. Vessel. Is. Unsettling. But. If. You. Have. No. Armor. I. Can. Wear. I have. No. Choice. But. To. Accept."

DM 340685

"Dark Arts material is not allowed to be removed from this area."
[-Often the amount of life needed to sacrifice increases with the amount of time the target has been dead. Though the amount needed rarely exceeds one full life, provided said life is that of a necromancer-]
"I won't pretend to know how you work, Aeon, but…"
"…can't you just wear it over your old clothes?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340686

Unfortunate, this reasserts the need for a much expedited learning session
go back to the humen
"Do you have an alternative?"

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340687

I can think of one necromancer. No. Bad thoughts.
Anything else interesting in this book while I'm reading it?

Roll #1 8 = 8

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340688

"Fashion. Must. Be. Taken. Into. Account. But. You are. Correct. Where. Are. The. Robes?"

Roll not to snooze off on his head.

Roll #0 10 = 10

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340690

"Turns out we would only need to sacrifice one life at most, if the victim is a necromancer."

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340691

I'm a very awake Capra.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340692

"Then we sacrifice as many murders and intentionally evil as it takes to revive a captain."

DM 340693

[-Some clerics who learn necromantic magic have been said to become immortal-]
"Go check out the armoury"
"It's past the reading room, on the left"
"Third door. Second is the tea room. First is a broom closet."

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340694

"Weren't we here to avoid this in the first place?"

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340695

I glide off to the armory. How do the robes look?

Roll #1 9 = 9

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340696

That is really interesting. Return the book to it's shelf.

"Maybe the Guard has a criminal necromancer in the dungeons." I look down. "It's the only alternative. We need to go back."

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340697

Roll my eyes and don't talk.
Not like we were proposing this since we first heard of resurrecting the guy.

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340698

Unless of course I somehow become a lifebinder before we get to the sacrificial part.

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340699

lean in and whisper
"She needed to find out on her own"
head off to the palace entrance

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340700

"I like guns more…"
Cross my arms and lie on top of his head.

DM 340701

Just like your old ones.
>Good. We have been waiting
>This capra is a captive necromancer. Accused of four murders and three raisings.
>He has agreed to die as penance for his crimes
>Isn't that right?
The emaciated capra weakly nods

Mollika [Capra Tracker] 340702

"More like you tortured him into that. But whaaaatever."

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340703

I put them on over my current ones and go to the meeting place.
"Only. One. Life?"

Aida [Humen Cleric] 340704

I just nod.

"That's all that's necessary."

Rale [Aeon Necromancer] 340705

"Not. So. High. A. Price. Is. It?"

Ärnim [Hork Knight] 340706

"Let us be off then."
follow them

DM 340707

Well if we keep at this

The catacombs
The final battle
and The end
