Diamond Dog Fortress Campfire 429154[Last 50 Posts]

It has been about a month since the raiding party returned to the fortress and the food issue was confronted. Every diamond dog in the fortress is once again eating three hearty meals a day now that the farms are expanded and frequently fertilized. The excavation of the new fortress has been slowed down considerably by the amount of stone and rubble created by the miners. Even with several craftsdogs and masons working overtime the rough stones continue to pile up in stockpiles, rooms, and hallways.

A loud banging on the door of you office breaks the quiet that had surrounded you while looking over important papers and figures about the fortress's supplies.

>Everyone else

You know what you are doing, why have you stopped?

Boyar (Preacher) 429155

"What is it? I'm very busy."

Koka [Chef] 429156

So, who were the carpenters?

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429157

Roll #1 8 + 3 = 11

Well, whatever I was doing.
Let's try making those collars.

Roll #1 4 = 4

Campfire 429159

File: 1370814415627.png (1.31 KB, 266x48, make up your own joke about wo…)

You door swings open and Prophesy rushes in.
"Alpha, there's a goat coming. The hunters that saw her say they think she is a dignitary or diplomat of some sort. I've already given the orders that all slaves be ordered to the pins, their owners' rooms, or the workshops they work in; I hope you do not mind."

Down once again at the dining level, you dig out a fifth of the new dining hall on your own. The dogs working on the other parts have all stopped their work and are watching you, along with the slaves.

You make a loop of leather, but the only way you can make it hold that shape is by sewing it together.

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429160

If I was there to make the order, then let me ask Crunch while he works a few questions.

"Thank you for this. In the meantime, I was wondering if think you can use some of the slaves we have now for the militia? We have a number that go unused."

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429161

Good for them, I'm too busy digging like a dig dog should!

Roll #1 6 + 3 = 9

Koka [Chef] 429162

Let's find Pick. Or really, the first one of them who can help me.

"Well that won't do. Any goat could just eat right through this crap. I must be out of practice.

"Eh. Don't thank me until I have something to show for it. Anyway, at the moment I don't really know if they can be trusted until they're good and obedient. These ones weren't raised as slaves."

Roll #1 9 = 9

Boyar (Preacher) 429164

"Good thinking, Prophecy."

Let's go welcome the visitor.

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429165

"Eh, I meant we had a lot of slaves that are already trained. I've bought a lot of slaves from the previous caravans, and some are just collecting dust. I'll see if Quill can bring the list of the available ones."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429166

Well, how close are we to having secured living space in the underground?
And I suppose I should be continuing Gem's lessons, as well as Copper's and Quartz's.

Crunch [Knight] 429167

"Well we did spend a lot of time buying them in bulk and handing them out. How many do we have in the mines?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429168

I was in the middle of giving my assistants further instruction and lessons, right?
How are they progressing?

Campfire 429169

You are wherever you want to be. We did a timeskip.

You start to dig out another fifth, but Memory slows you down and directs you pawscoop by pawscoop for a few minutes. It isn't until you step back that you realize she was helping you to dig pillars.

Pearl, Fence, Pick, and a female slavegryphon are all working in one large carpentry workshop. They gryphon stands and bows as you enter.
"How may I help you, mam?"

You send a slave on his way back to the pins to fetch you a few items, and soon you have several small pieces of bone, stone, and thrown away metal. With these you start making hooks that be sewn onto one end of a collar and threaded through a loop on the other end. The idea of clasps occurs to you, but you would need the help of a metalworker for that.

Prophesy follows you, and grabs the two diamond dogs wearing the most impressive armor from the barracks to come with the two of you. The four of you encounter her at the top of the hole left by the aquifer plug. She is tall enough to have to look down a little to meet your gaze.
"Greets, noble diamond dog. We have much to discuss."

Closer. Work has slowed to a crawl because there is too much loose rock and no where to put it. Gem, Copper, and Quartz sit in front of your workstation, watching you attentively.

Brown and Earth still have a little more to learn, but you think Zebra has a good grasp on how to craft metal items, armor, and weapons.

Koka [Chef] 429170

"Ah need'n order of seat'n tables f'a shop."

Boyar (Preacher) 429171

"I'm happy to speak to you, emissary."

Let's go to the main dining hall or whatever and talk.

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429172

Pat her head.
"Clever slave."
Don't stop though

Roll #1 4 + 3 = 7

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429173

First will be Gem's lessons on carving. Then I'll take Copper to the smiths so she can learn the basics of metalcraft, and Quartz to the stonecrafters so he can learn the basics of that.
So, first, Gem's moving on to harder lessons. Let's see if I can't provide a good enough example. '1d10+4' to carve, '1d10' to properly teach the method.

Roll #1 8 + 4 = 12 / Roll #2 10 = 10

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429174

I smile proudly at the three of them.
"Zebra, would you mind supervising Brown and Earth while I go and see what new orders have been given for us to make?"

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429175

"Oh, while Quill gets the list, how have your gryphons been doing, Crunch?"

Crunch [Knight] 429176

It's a start. Now we just need a few score more of these things. Plus clasps, of course.

"Well enough that they can both work unsupervised, though the female still works under the craftsdogs of course. We'll probably need more of these."
Hold up the mark two collar.

Campfire 429177

"Very good. How many, mam?"

Prophesy barks something at a passing dog in Diamond tongue and he runs off ahead of your group. When the four of you arrive all of the dishes have been removed from the tables, and all of the crumbs and spills have vanished. The two militia dogs stand guard at the entrance to the dining hall. She looks around the room.
"I had thought your fortress would be larger than this."

You dig out another chunk of the dining hall, but your work is getting slower. Could you be getting tired already?'

As soon as you start to teach Gem she levitates a rough gem off you desk and, in a flash of magical light, sets down a perfectly carved Gem.
"Thank you, Teacher, but I think the others need you help more."
Gem is at a skill level where she can no longer be given bonuses by being taught or watching demonstrations. You may use those rolls on either Copper or Quartz.

He nods.
"Will you be giving them a lesson first, Master? You know much more than I do still, even if I know how to make things without injuring myself often."

You will need to roll to make more.

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429178

Or just thristy.
"Slave, bring drink!"
Keep on digging, this hall needs to be finished!

Roll #1 1 + 3 = 4

Boyar (Preacher) 429179

"We're currently in the process of expanding."

Have some dogs bring out a few vegetarian dishes for the goat.

"So what brings you to our humble fortress, madam?"

Koka [Chef] 429180

Start sketching on the floor.
"So, tweeen-ty lil chairs, five roun' table, one loooon' and thin table with ten tall chairz!
Oh, and two moar fer me behind the table!"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429181

Well, bother.
"Hmm. Yes. Keep practicing, then."
And I'll head off to the smiths first. And then use those rolls to teach Copper the basics. But I'd only get a +1 on that first one, due to the amulet.

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429182

"What could be taking Quill so long with that list? I'd better go check on him in case something happened. But it's good to hear that th"ey are doing well. Let me know if you need anything for them."

Well I didn't mean to, but if I did it once I suppose I can do it again. Do we have a shop for these things?

Roll #1 2 = 2

Braiq [Wrdncr/Slvr/Mnr/Smth] 429184

Because I'm waiting for Hammer to prove himself, this was mentioned the last time I was here.

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429185

"Thank you, Quill. Here you go Crunch:
http://mlpg.co/qt/res/124730+50.html#125092 .
The Farmer's have asked for a gryphon and a unicorn, so those are marked off for the moment."

"Huh. Unicorns are useful anywhere, but why would they want a gryphon? Seems counterintuitive. I can't see those talons of theirs being too good for tilling. What about the buffalo? They're pretty much made for hard labor, can't we just send them all to the mines?"

Roll #1 4 = 4

Campfire 429187

"Yes, Master."
Her headdress sparkles in the light of the room's torches as she turns and walks away. The next thing you know you are on your back and waking up, surrounded by diamond dogs.
"Is he okay?"
"What happened?"
"Is he still passed out?"

"Business and rumors. The merchants carry many crafts, well carved and covered in gems, to us, and they also carry news. I have heard that you are working towards founding a new nation of your kind in these jungles. Am I correct?"

She pulls a clay tablet out from under her wing and scratches your order into it.
"Very well, mam. The wait for this will be long, but they should be ready by the time the new fortress is ready to be moved into. I assume that is what it is for, mam?"

Can you remind me what Quill was doing?
A diamond dog pokes his head into the room.
"Miss Aidi, two caravans coming: goat and donkey. Remember that the donkeys hate things made of wood and will leave if you try to barter with any."

There is a leatherworking shop. I had assumed you were there."

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429188

Blink and look around.

Koka [Chef] 429189

"Yarr! That be the place! Openin' new kind o' grub place!"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429190

I chuckle.
"I suppose I can stay and give them a quick lesson."
And with that… let's make…
A breastplate, why not.
Rolling to teach.

Roll #1 2 = 2

I just assume I'm wherever I need to be.

Roll #1 10 = 10

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429192

"Unicorn magic can be used to help the farms become more productive. A gryphon would be useful in catching any animals that try to eat our crops, and incidentally, get us more meat. As for the buffaloes. well, they're really, really nice and work well on the farms. Didn't you notice how everyone pla… worked with him for the raid?"

"Duty calls, Crunch, I'll see you afterwards."

Let's go to my room and get properly dressed for the caravans and have Quill get the papers ready. Have to make a good first impression. And make sure to remind Quill to stay inside. I remember how the traders reacted to Crunch's Gryphons.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429193

Boyar (Preacher) 429194

"We are planning on expanding in the future, yes. Not so greatly that it will threaten the livelihoods of those around us, but large enough to suit our needs."

Campfire 429195

"You fell over all of a sudden."
"You were out for a few minutes."
You can hear the clipclop of hooves comming your way.
"Master, I hav-Where is he? What are you all looking at on the ground?"

"It sounds delightful, mam. I appologize, but if you have no further orders I must return to my work."

Your ponies are too busy shooting angry looks at Zebra for learning faster than them.

You put on a rose silk vest, one of the first ones made in the fortress, and wait at the entrance to the tunnel that leads to the trading depot while dogs haul bins and loose items to the trade depot. A donkey and a goat meet you as their wagons are pulled into the tunnel.
"Hello, miss. Have a lot to trade this year?"

Hammer gets to work on a breastplate.

"Oh do not worry, there is plenty of room in these jungles. You diamond dogs may even be able to take care of the bandit problem."

Roll #1 4 - 1 = 3

Campfire 429196

Afraid to overheat the metal, Hammer pulls it out and begins hammer on it too soon. He gets nowhere fast.
"Shall I keep trying, Master?"

Koka [Chef] 429197

Shrug and be off.
Go find Cook again.
"How's it goin?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429198

"Hey! Stop that right this instant. You have no right to be mad at zebra, either of you. You should both feel bad."
I frown at Earth and Brown.
"And if you want to catch up to zebra, then pay attention!"
I restart the lesson.

Roll #1 3 = 3

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429199

"So, Copper, as you can see, working with metal isn't too hard, but you need to have all the right safety measure in place. I would suggest using your magic to operate a little further from the flames, so you don't get burned in case something drops, or goes wrong. Because you can prepare for a thousand different things, and then the one you didn't prepare for will happen."

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429200

Stand up.
"Kopaz felt thirsty. Kopaz wanted to dig more."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429201

Of course! Look at where you can improve! What aren't you applying?

Improvise, Inspire '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

"Right. Trade well."
Well since I'm in the shop, let's work on building enough of those collars for the slaves.

Roll #1 1 = 1

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429203

"Good news for both of you is that I have quite a few requests to purchase, so this might go in both of your favor. What did you bring?"

Boyar (Preacher) 429204

"Bandit problems? I take it your caravans have been having trouble?"

Campfire 429205

He is locked in the fish cleaning workshop with a few other slaves, and a couple of diamond dogs standing guard inside.
"It goes well, Mistress. The diamond dogs enjoy my cooking."

They both hang their heads, now too upset at upsetting you to pay attention.

Sorry. I'll give you that 12.
Copper attempts to make something at the forges.

A few diamond dogs press your shoulders down as your zebra comes into view.
"Oh, Master! What happened? Here, drink this!"
She hands you a large mug full of water.

Your laughing does something, but it isn't inspiring. He tries again.

While working with a knife to cut the leather into strips you open a long gash across one of your palms. You are going to need to see someone about this.

"A bit of everything, just like always."

"No, actually, a colony of ours was sacked. Several houses burned down, a few goats killed, and the rest carried off to who knows where."
Her face remains as expressionless as it was when you first met her.

Roll #1 3 + 2 = 5 / Roll #2 1 - 1 = 0

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429206

Drink it.

Roll #1 10 = 10

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429207

"It was requested that I purchase clothing from various parties. We're a growing fort, and we don't have a lot of the facilities needed to make things for many of the new migrants. Can you show me your wares?"

Crunch [Knight] 429208

"Spawn of a bitch…"
Wrap it up and go to the doctor's.

Koka [Chef] 429209

Locked? Why on earth are they locking him up! He's a good pony!

Oh well. Sit down and clean a few fishes with him.
"Ah, they got taste. You shoul' be proud!"

Roll #1 10 + 3 = 13

Campfire 429210

Surprised by the heat, copper drops a length of metal as she pulls it from a furnace. Luckily, no one is injured.
"Sorry, Master, Shall I try again?"

Hammer, determined not to make the same mistake again, leaves the bar of copper in far too long. It droops as he pulls it out and, before you can stop him, he strikes it with a hammer. Liquid metal splashes in all direction, but luckily Hammer's face is there to shield you and the pegasus slave. He gives on short, high pitched shriek then collapses as the smell of burning flesh and hair fills the room.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429211

I'll nod.
"Errors are just the cobblestones of progress. Try again."

Boyar (Preacher) 429212

"Really? How bizarre. We lost a small hunting party, as well."

Roll #1 4 = 4

Lorik [Doctor] 429213

I'm here too!
Where are my assistants? I need to train them, turn them into lean mean healing machines!

Boyar (Preacher) 429214

remember that I've got compassion now

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429215

Point to the pegasus
Check his face '1d10+2' while pulling him over my shoulder and hobbling to follow the pegasus mare

Roll #1 2 + 2 = 4

Campfire 429216

The pain leaves you head in an instant as you drink the mug full of warm water in one gulp. Several diamond dogs help you to stand up as Memory takes the mug from you.
"Master should tell me when his head starts to hurt. I cannot remind you to take breaks and drink if you do not tell me when your body needs a break."

"Of course."
Inside are barrels containing bolts of cloth and silk, and barrels containing large pieces of leather. There are a few items of clothing meant for diamond dogs, and other meant for four legged creatures.
"What would you like to see more of?"

The doctor greets you.
"Hello, Crunch. Accident while training with your dogs?"

You manage to find three fishes, odd considering that the ponds around here contain almost no life. The two of you clean them together. He smiles at you.
"I am, Mistress. It is an honor to serve the fortress."

Continued, my connection is being a bitch again.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429217

I sigh and place a paw to my forehead.
"It's okay… we all have our moments of bad judgement. Just please, do not let it happen again it the future."
And now I try to SUCCESSFULLY teach them.

Roll #1 6 = 6

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429218

"Will break more."

Koka [Chef] 429219

"Y'kno, Ah'm thinkin' bout movin to da new fort.
So old fort'd need sumone to cook…"

Crunch [Knight] 429220

"Nah, got careless and sliced myself open while making collars. Was a stupid mistake."

Show the gash.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429221

"This is good, some of the clothing the adult dogs is starting to go out. For all these, what are you asking for?"

Try to negotiate. Does the bookkeeper bonus apply here?

"Oh, and while we are it, do you have anything for pups and for the hoof-ed ones' young?"

Roll #1 1 = 1

Lorik [Doctor] 429222

Campfire 429223

She shakes her head sadly.
"I am sorry to hear that, although I am glad that it is not your pack that is responsible for it. It would be a shame to lose such a valuable trading partner."

They have been confined to the hospital until a certain goat diplomat leaves.

The pegasus mare runs out of the room. Juices that filled his eyeballs are now boiled in his empty sockets, heated by glowing specks down at the bottom. Parts of his lips and face have been scorched away revealing the tooth and bone behind them. You can feel his breath on your face.

Their spirits soothed by your words, they listen carefully as you teach them.
They are rolling with a +0 modifier now.

"That's good, Master. Are you feeling well enough to return to work?"

"New fort, mistress?"

He looks at it.
"A simple gash. Follow me."
He takes you back to a room. After giving you a chewed strip of leather to bite on he cleans and sutures the gash.
"Alright. Careful not to tear the stitches. Remember to clean the cut with soap and water until it heals."

Yes it does.
"For adult diamond dogs we have a leather vest, a flax cloth dress, and a pair of silk socks. The vest is priced at 80☀, the dress at 100☀, and the socks at 180☀. We do not carry clothing for pups, foals, kids, or any other young."
You know that none of those items should be anywhere near that price.

Roll #1 5 + 2 = 7

Koka [Chef] 429224

"Fancy stuff. They diggin it right now!"

Crunch [Knight] 429225

"Sure, thanks doc. Can I still work with it or do I gotta stick with one-handed jobs from now on?"

Boyar (Preacher) 429226

"Indeed. Madame Goat, we left out homeland to make a new life free from the boundaries set by our ancestors. You can trust that we handle things a bit differently here.

"If you hear anything more about these bandits, please share the information with us. We will do the same."

Lorik [Doctor] 429227

What kind of bullshit is this? I'm not going to sit in the same room as that stinking doctor.
Just take them to the stonecrafting workshop, that's allowed right?

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429228

"It's quite a bit more than I was expecting, is there a way to bring it down? I know you were looking for few things to trade to the other fortresses and towns, so how about you take a look at some of the things we have available."

Roll #1 4 = 4

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429229

Hurray! …Do the points I have invested in Smithing give me any modifiers that I forget about?
I smile at all their attentive faces.
"And that should be it. I am going to depart for now, but I would like to see the three of you having made a breastplate when I return!"
I give the three of them hugs and depart to find the other smiths.

"Do you, erm… have you received any build orders? I am getting rather… anxious, to forge something."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429230

"Yes, very good. Now keep it up, and remember basic safety. Apron on while you work the forge, stand a good ways away from the fire so that any liquid metal doesn't hit you, and don't for the love of Glitter end up like that other pony that just left with half his face missing."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429231

turn him over so that those specks fall out

Campfire 429232

"Oh, that one. I had heard everydog would move there, mistress. This one would be stripped as bare as it could be then filled with traps after it was empty."

"It depends on your work. Doing anything with your paws would have a chance of popping the stitches, but you should be safe so long as it is not precision work or mining."

"I will, thank you. i will be leaving with the merchants, if there is anything more you wish to speak of you can find me there."
She looks around the room once again before finishing her meal.
"It's such a pleasant place you've carved out for yourselves…"
She stands and leaves.

He stops you before you can even get to the waiting room.
"Prophesy said a goat diplomat is here. No slaves in the halls until its gone."

They look around at what is being offered. The donkey agrees to lower the price if bone items are traded for the socks, which he is offering. The goat offers to lower the price so long as toys are thee item being offered for the other two items.

You make metal things at DC3. After the session ends I am going to write up a teacher skill and give it to the PCs that I think have earned it.
"Lots of orders."
"Foot armor, arm armor, leg armor, silver bolts and arrows for the militia and hunters, metal studs to decorate items, metal crafts, the list goes on and on."
"Oh, in case you are interested, we finally tracked down the weapons wielded by the slain bushwoolies thieves and metaled them down."
"I call the new metal Bushwoolium."
"I call him an idiot and call the metal iron. Interested in working with steel?"

She makes an ugly looking metal plate.
"I will be careful, Master."
She continues her work.

You turn him over, but they have melted and fused with his flesh. Your pegasus runs back into the room, crying.
"Master! They won't let me go anywhere! The Alpha has locked forbidden slaves from moving!"

Roll #1 8 + 3 = 11

Koka [Chef] 429233

Blink a few times.
"How good you ar' wid brewin?"

Boyar (Preacher) 429234

Tell Prophecy to buy whatever is needed from the merchants before they leave.

Lorik [Doctor] 429235

I growl at him
"Just don't come near me, fleaball."
Turn to my assistants.
"Don't talk to him, his idiocy is very contagious."

Crunch [Knight] 429236

I frown.
"Well, looks like those collars are gonna have to wait then. Guess I'll go have to keep other dogs from doing the same. Thanks, doc."

Let's go find some other dogs and see what they're up to.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429237

"Why did nobody tell me anything about all the orders…"
I sigh.
"Certainly though. How much do we have of… uh, it? Has Boyar made any specific requests to… erm, requests of what to use it for?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429238

Pick up Hammer and then head out to find the magic doctor

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429239

I'll nod as she continues working.
"Good. If you have any questions, ask the two smith dogs that work the forges. They can teach you far more than I can. If they wonder why you're asking, tell them I told you to not keep any questions to yourself. I'll be back in a while to check up on you."
And once that's handled, I'll run Quartz over to the stonecrafting station.
"Here is where you'll likely be working, Quartz. Stonecraft is a valuable part of any fortress, and anything from crafts to carvings comes through the paws of a skilled stonedog."

Campfire 429240

"I have never tried, Mistress. Will you teach me?"

He nods and leaves. A unicorn pokes its head up from behind a table on the other side of the room before a paw pulls it back down.

He shrugs.
"It's your hide if you don't listen. We don't have a jail in this fort, so maybe the Alpha will simple have your head hammered in instead."
Your slaves nod.
"Yes, Doctor."

Most are working on making class items, leather items, cloth items, wood items, snow items, food, laboring, or practicing in the barracks.

"Armor. Steel is always used for armor or weapons first."

You are stopped at the stairs by a diamond dog.
"Can't let you th-oh Spine, what happened to him?"

Luckily, its on the same level so you are not stopped.
"It is good for me to serve the fortress, Master."

Boyar (Preacher) 429241

"You can all come out now."

Crunch is in charge of the militia, yes? Let's find him.

Koka [Chef] 429242

"Not have Ah.. We shou'lern togetha!"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429243

"This seems like an acceptable offer. We could really use the clothing, and even loose material would be useful."

Negotiate with each caravan individually. First is goats, then donkeys.

Also, do they happen to have any slaves in those caravans of theirs?

Roll #1 8, 8 = 16

"I'll listen to the alpha, but not to you."
Which skill level are my unicorns at? Can I train them further?

Roll #1 9 = 9

Crunch [Knight] 429245

Snow items?
Well I guess I'll go meet the trade caravan with Aidi.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429246

"Yes, yes, for the fort, blah blah blah."
Walk over to one of the carving stations.
"Now, Stone carving is both a little easier, and a lot harder, than gem cutting or woodcarving. If the stone you use is flawed or cracked, it can ruin the entire piece if you aren't a master who can compensate for such things."
I'll take a small chunk of rock.
"Now, I'm going to demonstrate the utter basics of carving stone. It's been a while, so I'm probably fairly rusty at it. Much as I told Copper, once you've got the gist of it, I'm turning you loose on the stonedogs to learn and practice."
Now, '1d10+1' to carve, '1d10' to explain it properly.

Roll #1 7 + 1 = 8 / Roll #2 10 = 10

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429247

"Let me through

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429248

I nod.
"Alright then. I'll get to work on making some steel armor."
I return to my worksh-
Actually, I head over to Boyar.

Campfire 429249

The unicorn and a diamond dog stand up. the diamond dog grabs a tray full of stacks of plates and bowls while the unicorn lifts of a large pile of food and crumbs with his magic. They both leave the room as several runners leave to lift the lockdown around the fortress.

He smiles.
"I would love to, Mistress. If on-"
A diamond dog stick his head in.
"Lockdown's over, but stay out of the trade depot with your slaves."
The diamond dog leaves as quickly as he came. All the slaves except for yours get up and leave.

You get a pretty good price on the items of clothing and soon have a leather vest, a flax dress, a pair of rose silk socks, and several barrels of clothing making materials.
Diamond Dogs are the only race that sell slaves.

They are both competent healers, but both are Dabbling -3 at Mend.

Oh wow I messed that up. I can't even remember what those messed up things were supposed to be.
You are now underground in the trade depot with Aidi, several other diamond dogs, the merchants, and their guards.

Quartz nods as you explain.
"I think I understand, Master."

The diamond dog growwls and reaches for a cudgel.
"Back off, or-"
A voice shouts down the stairwell.
"Lockdown's over! Keep the slaves out of the trade depot!"
The diamond dog with the cudgel steps aside.

You find him in the dining hall in the old fortress.

Koka [Chef] 429250

Shrug and stand up.
"Less go, uh?"
Back to our room!
"So, whereyasayin?"

Crunch [Knight] 429251

"What've we got down here, Aidi?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429252

Remember his face, and then start for the magic doc I went to before

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429253

"Good. Let's see if you do. And remember, use your magic. You'll get a better grip with that than with hooves."
I'll set another rock up, and gesture for him to begin.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429254

"Is there anything from these two caravans you would like, or something for the militia? Let me know and we can add it to the bundle I'm buying."

Boyar (Preacher) 429255

I go find Crunch.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429256

"I'm purchasing some cloth, since some of the dogs are complaining about the smells coming out of what they have. I also bought some leathers, but now that you're here, I would appreciate your opinion on them. Oh, and is there anything else you think the militia could use now instead of waiting for later?"

Lorik 429257

Hmmm… Mend is important but… are they maxed out on heal?

Crunch [Knight] 429258

"Well, we're getting pretty well-equipped. Most every dog has some decent protection by now. What sorts of weapons or ore do they have?"

Campfire 429259

You two are now back at your room.
"I was going to say 'If only the fortress wasn't locked down,' Mistress."

You find him in the Hospital.

You spot your brother as you leave the dining hall and go to the trade depot.

They are maxed out on heal.

Roll #1 7 - 1 = 6

Koka [Chef] 429260

"Yeah, sup wid'dat?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429261

Lay Hammer down somewhere in here.

Boyar (Preacher) 429262

"Hello, Moloch."

I try to find Crunch after that

Lorik 429263

Well I'm proud of them both.
That's two unicorn healers already, which is not enough. I'll go find Prophecy or whatever his name is.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429264

I'll slightly at his carving. It's something, at least.
"Well, practice will even out the rough spots. Keep it up, and don't hesitate to ask the stonedogs for their knowledge. You are here to learn, after all."

Oh boy, nevermind. This first.
"Another eye accident. Stand back and pray. Risky spell ahead."
Try to Mend the stallion's eyes.

Roll #1 3 + 2 = 5

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429266

"Go ahead and look, you might find other things you can use."

Crunch [Knight] 429267

I'll just go and do that then. Provided he hasn't bought up all the good stuff already.

Moloch 429268

"Wait, Boyar!"
I chase after him.
"Brother. I'm about to start working on forging some steel armor, but I wanted to check with you to see if you had any further requests for them."

Boyar (Preacher) 429269

"Is it for the militia or a personal project?"

Campfire 429270

"There was a goat diplomat, I think. The Alpha did not want her seeing us, Mistress."

You lay hammer down on an operating table near Lorik.

Crunch is in the trade depot.

He makes a flatish rock plate.
"I will, Master."

The stink of burnt flesh, burnt hair, and burnt eyeball juice makes you gag as you try to mend the unicorn.

They have a few steel swords and axes, a steel warhammer, and two steel bucklers. One of the swords, two of the axes, and a buckler are richly engraved.

Boyar, and those around him, are approached by a tall, fat donkey.
"Ah, there you are. I am a diplomat from Baldtome, the donkey capitol. I have heard you are looking to expand your borders, Boyar Alpha?"

Koka [Chef] 429271

"Dat's so borin'. Say, Ah got'n idea! We need a maid! For da bar!"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429272

Well, I'll watch him carve a few more, and then go check on Copper. See how she's doing. Might have to toss another couple gems to those two smiths to pay for lessons, if they don't take it on credit for that last set.

Campfire 429273

He nods his head.
"Then you should hurry to the slave pins before all of them leave for their jobs, Mistress."

Roll #1 8, 6, 9 - 1 = 22 / Roll #2 10, 3 + 3 = 16

I'm a professional damn it!
Again! Mend him!

Roll #1 8 + 2 = 10

Moloch 429275

"For the militia. Steel is much too valuable to be used for personal projects."

Moloch 429276

Ignore the I.

Boyar (Preacher) 429277

"I don't know of anything else that is needed, but perhaps you should check with Crunch. I'm looking for him now."

Crunch [Knight] 429278

"Hey, what's the story with these engraved weapons you got here?"

Koka [Chef] 429279

Nudge him jokingly.
"Got'yer eye on someone?"

Campfire 429280

He makes three more plates, although none of them are quite as ugly as the last. The smiths are watching you Copper as she hammers out a simple toy axe next to a one-note flute.
"She's got spark, and that gem from last time is still working for us."
"We'll train her for free and let you keep her graduation project."

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429281

Bow and make sure we're presentable.

Moloch 429282

"I'll join you in looking for him then."
And off we go.

Campfire 429283

His body flails as you squeeze his head between your paws. there a re a few flashes of light, and when you eyes refocus you can see that his face and eyes are as good as new. He doesn't say anything. All he does is hug you and sob.

Crunch is in the trade depot with both of you

The donkey shrugs.
"There isn't one. Some customers pay more for fancy looking weapons and armor."

He shakes his head and blushes a little bit.
"N-no, Mistress. Normally the mares find us when that time of the year rolls around."

He ignores you.

Boyar, and those around him, are approached by a tall, fat donkey.
"Ah, there you are. I am a diplomat from Baldtome, the donkey capitol. I have heard you are looking to expand your borders, Boyar Alpha?"

Boyar (Preacher) 429284

"Yes, perhaps. Is there some way you could be of service to us? Or perhaps we could be of service to you?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429285

I'll nod.
"Sounds fair to me. After her lessons, just send her back to me. This will also let you get my attention faster if necessary."
And since that's taken care of, let's meander off to check on Gem, and then Spinel and Luster.

Crunch [Knight] 429286

"Huh, is that all? Just some filigree and sparkle bits?"

Koka [Chef] 429287

"Can' faul'em, a girl's got needs.
Wanna come 'nyway?"

Moloch 429288

I approach Crunch.
"Crunch… erm, do you have any requests for additions to steel armor? Or, uh… Do you want me to do anything special for these steel armor sets I'm making?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429289

I just grumble
"Yes. Fine. No need to test those eyes by crying."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429290

Beam at the doctor's work

is there something to repay you for this? hahahahiahihihihi!!

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429291

Try not to whimper and and keep an eye on Crunch in case he still wants the weapons.

Campfire 429292

"I was wondering if you had any plans to move against the diamond dog mountainhomes to the south once your nation becomes strong. They are no where near as agreeable as your fortress has been."

Gem is cranking out cut gems while Spinel plays with Luster.

"I've been asked the same things about diamond dog crafts that are studded with gems. If somecreature wants to trade items for them, then that's the way things are."

He nods again.
"I would love to, Mistress."

He lets go of your leg and croaks a weak "Thank you" before returning to Braiq's side and nuzzling the pegasus.

Lorik [Doctor] 429293

"No. It's my job. Am only doing what is expected of me. Unless you have some jobless unicorns at your disposal. In that case you should send them to me for training."

"No need to thank."

Crunch [Knight] 429294

"Moloch? Not at the moment. I can't really make demands until we lose a dog, and so far we haven't yet…so long as we keep getting good steel things should be fine."
Think on that for a moment.
"…how about shields, bucklers? Do we have any of those?"

I shrug.
"Fair enough. How much for the sword or warhammer?"

Koka [Chef] 429295

Nod him to follow and off to the pens we go!

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429296

Well, that's good, I suppose.
Doesn't leave much for me to do, though… Guess I can walk about the fort. I think I'll take Spinel and Luster with me. Think I'll go up to the surface. Get some air.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429297

"Unicorns? ehehehahahahha!

Right right

turn to the stallion
"Another go? Or study more?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429298

"Where are your caravans headed to after us? If you could let us know, we might be able to make things that will be sought out by your next customers."

Koka [Chef] 429299

Oh yeah, and look at the slaves. Unicorn mare would be the best.

Campfire 429300

There are plenty of steel shields and bucklers for your squad.

"1000☀ and 1400☀."

The two of you get to the slave pins. There are females of every race here that are available.

"Whatever you desire, Master."

"We are each on or way to Deeptrodden, a small pony settlement two weeks south of here. They mostly mine, so food and clothing items are in high demand."

Lorik [Doctor] 429301

Now. Go see Prophecy.

Koka [Chef] 429302

"Hey gurls.
Who's here gud wi'tables?"

Moloch 429303

"Copper ones I'm sure."
I shake my head.
"This is the first time… uh, we've gotten steel so far. We've just been working with… well, copper and silver before this."
I fiddle with my paws.
"Though… if you say it should be good, then I'll take your word. Good day Crunch."
And then I head back to the smithy and drop by the other two smiths.
"Uh, do you two have the steel still or was it moved to storage?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429304

I sigh.

"The two things we are low on. I'll remember to set aside a bit more food for trade since we're slowly filling our own coffers."

Boyar (Preacher) 429305

"I can't speak about our plans for war, Baldtome. I'm sure you understand. I appreciate your moral support, however. Perhaps if we do make war, we can count on your aid in trade and supplies?"

Campfire 429306

You find him eating in the dining hall.

"We all are, mam."
"Both in a dining hall and at fancy meals."

"We've kept it all here. You've got five bars to work with."

"Very well."
Oh, I forgot to mention something.
Raiding destination acquired: Deeptrodden.

"Oh yes, you most certainly can. That is all I wished to say. This is certainly a nice place you have carved out…"
He gets back into one of the donkey wagons.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429307

Koka [Chef] 429308

Blink a few times.
"This' be harder than Ah thought!"
Look at Cook.
"Who's best?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429309

"I need a separate room from the hospital to set up shop. A miniature clinic. Not many beds needed. Healing magic usually allows patient to walk out right after treatment, unlike traditional medicine. Large hospital is unnecessary for me."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429310

Inspire '1d10'
"Eheehehehehehhe, slow down. Hurried moves when metalworking aren't smart moves"

Roll #1 5 = 5

Campfire 429311

Luster runs along your side as the three of you go up to the surface You get in two deep breaths before Luster hits you in the back with a snowball. Spinell looks mortified.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429312

Oh, so… That's how it will be, I see.
"You had best be prepared for the consequence of that action, Luster."
Grabbing up a pawful of snow, I'll ball it up and toss it back.'1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429313

"I'll remember that, thank you for your business."

If everything is concluding, let's go and check on Quill and the slaves. I still need to deliver a few and find the rest jobs.

Crunch [Knight] 429314

"Eh. I'll take the hammer."

Campfire 429315

"We are all equally good, Mistress. A unicorn or gryphon may be faster, but in the end I think you should choose whichever one you think looks best."

He nods his head.

It hits him in the face and knocks him over. He quickly gets back up and throws a bit of snow at you with a burst of magic while laughing. Spinell still looks mortified.

Quill is doing fine, the male slaves have all returned to work, but a runt bitch has held up all the female ones.

Roll #1 4 - 1 = 3

Koka [Chef] 429316

Who's the youngest and all around cutest looking?
"I could go for a unicorn."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429317

"Well, don't just stand there, Spinel, return fire."
And I'll hurl another snowball. '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Lorik [Doctor] 429318

Campfire 429319

You trade every barterable item you owned and are left with a heavy steel warhammer.

It's a tie between a young zebra mare and a young goat nanny.
"I would be thankful to mistress if she did."

She picks up a snow ball and throws it at him.

He nods his head.
"Alright. Chances are high that the hospital will be the last thing made because of their need of wells. Being located under the aquifer makes that tricky."

Roll #1 4 = 4

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429320

Tap her on the shoulder after hearing her.
"Well, you only have one choice then."

"Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Aidi, the one in charge of the slaves. About the unicorns, one of the males is being assigned to the farmers, but I have another free one if you want 'im. What are you gonna use them for?"

Campfire 429321

You both miss him. he throws one more snowball which hits Luster, then sits down to catch his breath.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429322

Supplementary teaching! '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Lorik [Doctor] 429323

"Good. I cannot bear being with that drooling imbecile of a doctor any longer. Thank you."
Now… Go to the slave pens. Time for more unicorns.

Koka [Chef] 429324

"Eh, sure, that magic's gonna be useful, na?"
Motion to the unicorn mare to come closer.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429325

I'll dust off my paws.
"Had fun, did you?"

Moloch 429326

I nod.
"Alright then. Oh, and uh… Do you have anything else for me? I heard that, erm, you were the ones they were dropped off to when we left for the raids."

Crunch [Knight] 429327

Heft and swing it a few times, then nod my thanks.

Campfire 429328

You fail to tell him things he doesn't already know. He tries again.

You find only one unicorn. She is a mare that is being spoken to by a runt bitch.

She steps closer and bows. He coat is mauve, her mane and tail are pink. Her ears are a little tall and her teeth are close set.

He smiles up at you.

"Oh, yes. The necklaces."
You get three necklaces. Two copper with gems whoe color matches the major color in the ponies' cutiemarks, and the other silver with a black gem.

Roll #1 2 = 2

Campfire 429329

He nods back. The warhammer is well made.

Lorik [Doctor] 429330

Only one? Ugh…
Approach the two
"I need unicorns. Where are all the unicorns."
Point at the mare
"You, are you jobless?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429331

I'll give him a sharp tap on his nose.
"I hope it was worth it. Next time, no surprise attacks."
I'll huff slightly.
"And don't try that with any of the other dogs. They are not as kind as I am, and would have beaten you for the first snowball."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429332

I take them from the smiths and and the bars of steel and nod.
"Thank you."
And with that, I return back to my own forge. How did my assistants fair?

Koka [Chef] 429333

Look at Cook with my arms crossed, waiting on his opinion.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429334

"Like what you see? Let me know and I can sign her off for you."

"Eh, two potential adopters. Well, the mare is being considered by Koka here, but I have a Unicorn Stallion also available to be assigned."

Campfire 429335

He smashes his hoof with the hammer and curses his clumsiness.
"Sorry, Master."

Campfire 429336

Actually, I messed up my math. All five unicorn stallions are currently assigned.

Lorik [Doctor] 429337

"Considered? I'll take the mare if she can't make up her mind. Need more unicorns."

Crunch [Knight] 429338

Now, time to go put my newest acquisition away and see how the militia is doing.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429339

"Wait, wait, Quill just let me know the last one was checked out, so the Mare is all we have left."

"Let me check to see that the farmers got the other stallion we had. They had requested one some time ago and the fortress needs them first."

Campfire 429340

You return to the forge and find [3d10]

"Currently, sir, but another diamond dog is already considering me. I am sorry."

"I like her, Mistress. Forgive me, but I feel that you should chose the slave you want to have, not the slave I want you to have."

They are all resting while two slaves put away equipment that was used in a demonstration of some sort. Your second in command climbs out of bed to greet you.
"Hello, boss."

Roll #1 9, 6, 7 = 22

Campfire 429341

They have all made a good quality copper breastplate.
All your slave are now Competent.

Koka [Chef] 429342

"Ya, Ah think Ah'll take her. Waddaya need her for?"
"Oh, Ah jus' need a gud maid. Gotta be pretty'n the fancy magic to serve tables."
Look at him angrily.
"You da pony, you gotta tell me if she's lookin' right!"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429343

Lorik [Doctor] 429344

"Well? Can I have her or what?"

"More healers."

Campfire 429345

He nods his head.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429346

I grin ecstatically at all of them.
"What wonderful work! You three really are progressing wonderfully. And, because of it, I have a gift that I've been meaning to give you."
I present the three of them with the necklaces.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429347

"Good. You learn quickly, at least."
I'll motion Spinel over to pick him up.
"Now, back down we go. Perhaps something interesting will happen on the way back to the shop."

Koka [Chef] 429348

"Dat's a better thin' ta do wi'magic, Ah guess. Hey, if ya had to be served by one o'em, who'd it be?"
Motion over at the various mares.

Crunch [Knight] 429349

"Hey. What were you all just up to?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429350

What kind of mares?

Koka [Chef] 429351

Hell if I remember.
But there's a female of every race and the two prettiest are a young zebra and a young goat.

Campfire 429352

He starts shaking.
"I am sorry, mistress. She looks fine, absolutely fine!"

All three of their jaws drop as they see the necklaces.
"They are wonderful, Master!"
"Thank you so much!"

She nods and the three of you start walking back to your workshop at the entrance of the old fortress. Just as your are about to walk past the path leading to the barracks a diamond dog walks out and you run straight into it, knock you both back onto your rear ends. Looking up, you see Poet.
"Hey there, Pom Rainian. Fancy running into you here."
She laughs at her joke.

Earth pegasus, and zebras. There are also a female gryphon, a female goat, and a female donkey.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429353

"These kinds of mares. I'll have Quill gather them, but here's the list of all we have."

Hand him the clipboard with the data.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429354

"Indeed. What's the hurry?"
I'll stand up a bit, dust off, and then offer a paw to help her up.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429355

I continue grinning and give each of them their respective necklaces.
"Do you like them?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429356

"Zebra looks classy. So does pegasus."

Koka [Chef] 429357

Nod strongly.
"T's alright."
Pat him on the head.
Motion the zebra closer.
"Ya start tomorrow."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429358

Well shit

alright start constructing things that I can trade with. '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Campfire 429359

You stand up, now at eye level with her, and offer her a paw to help her up. She looks at you, raising an eyebrow.
"Okay, sure."
She grabs your paw with hers.
Roll to see if you can pull her up, or if you end up getting pulled over by the strong and larger diamond dog.

They all nods their heads so hard that they have trouble putting on their necklaces.
"They are beautiful!"
"Thank you so much, Master!"
"I hope we can make things this nice eventually!"

She walks up to you and bows.
"Thank you, Mistress. Will Mistress be keeping me here or in her room?"

You have no luck as your pegasus helps your stallion limp off to find a doctor.

Koka [Chef] 429360

"Ah think we got a room big 'nuff.
The bed, too."
Now I really gotta sleep.

Lorik [Doctor] 429361

Wasting time doing nothing. Dammit.
Take that unicorn mare along.
"What is your name?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429362

I'm not some panty-waist pussywillow of a dog. '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

Crunch [Knight] 429363

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429364

I chuckle at their excitement.
"Well you three are free to take the day off if you wish. You've done an excellent job today and you certainly are deserving of a break."
I perk up.
"Oh! Though I do have one thing… would you three like to sign your work with your names?"
I gesture to the three breastplates they made.

Campfire 429365

"Combat practice, boss. The dogs are all worn out after it."

Campfire 429366

She follows you back to your room. the three of you crawl into bed and you lay sandwiched between your soft, warm slaves.

"I haven't one, Master."

You lean back and pull with both paws and get her butt about a foot off the ground. She moves her feet and digs her other paw into the ground to help her the rest of the way up.
"You're actually pretty strong for a runt, Pom."
She looks at the snow on you and your two ponies.
"What happened to the three of you? Pups ambush you all with snowballs?"

"If…Master wants us to."
"Are you sure that the recipients would not object, Master?"

Crunch [Knight] 429367

"Well then they learned something. You guys need anything down here? New practice dummies?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429368

"A small engraving on the inside won't hurt anydog. And if they do have a problem, then they can bring it up with me."
I chuckle.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429369

Roll #1 7 = 7

Lorik [Doctor] 429370

"Come up with something, will you? Ponies usually like fruity names. As a unicorn, I will train you in the magnificent art of healing magic. Agreed?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429371

"It seems Luster thought to try his aim, and I responded accordingly. Slave he may be, he's still a child."
I'll scratch the side of my nose.
"I've warned him not to try that with any of the other dogs, as they would not be as patient with him as I was. Usually. You might knock him clean off his hooves with a snowball, though."
I'll brush off some of the remaining snow.
"How about yourself? Heading out for target practice, or hunting?"

Campfire 429372

He nods his head.
"Ours are mostly pulp and splinters now. We have a few flasks, waterskins, and backpacks, but more would be great next time we go on a raid."

You grab a copper sword off a rack and hit it hard enough to drive it halfway into the stone floor.

"Fruity name. Yes, Master, thank you for offering to train me."

"Lunch, actually. Care to join me?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429373

Follow behind him because he still needs to sign off on her.

"I only need some of your information, and if you plan on having her stay with you. We'll be expanding here, so we need to take that into consideration."

"I heard you talking about names, so just to let you know, we've been naming them after tools or their duty. This makes it easy for us to keep up on them."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429374

"I wouldn't be against it."
I'll turn to Spinel.
"Take Luster back to his mother, and then come back with the mug I keep in the cupboard in the shop. After that, I'll send you on the way with some food."
And then it's off to lunch with Poet.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429375

Roll #1 6 = 6

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429376

Lorik [Doctor] 429377

"My assistants will help as well. And no, Fruity name is not a decent name."

"Doctor Lorik. She will be staying in my new room with my other assistants. I asked Prophecy to arrange it. And unlike the rest of this fortress, I am not a braindead moron who cannot keep track of names."

Campfire 429378

"We will do so, Mistress."
The three of them leave the forge, chatting with each other as they go.

Crunch [Knight] 429379

"Sounds easy enough. Tell the boys to keep an eye out when they go out next time. I'll get to work on crafting some new targets for you lot."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429380

"If you run into any trouble, please do tell me and I'll do my best to clear it up!"
I wave to them as they leave.

I take a look at the steel.
How many bars would I need to make a breastplate? And then from there, what would be the next most useful piece of armor to make?

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429381

"Just keeping you informed. I'm also the Negotiator for the Fortress, so let me know if you, or your slaves, need anything. Feel free to go through Quill, the Gryphon that works for me. In fact, I insist you do so."

Let's go to the farmers and see if they'll be available to train their gryphon.

Campfire 429382

She nods and heads off with Luster. You and Poet walk to the kitchen. On the menu for today are various sandwiches, roasts, and soups. Poet orders a plump helmet, potato, and lama heart roast and grabs herself a large mug of strawberry wine. Spinnel returns with your gem mug and Poet's eyes go wide.
"Holy Spine, Pom. That's amazing!"

"Sorry, master."

"Thanks, Boss. Say, you should train with us sometime."

"We will, Master!"

Just one. The most useful items would be a breastplate, followed by a helmet, greaves, gauntlets, a shield, and boots.

Most of the farmers, as well as the stallion they have, are sitting with a confused looking male gryphon as a few of the larger farmers and all of the buffaloes play Doge the Buffalo. The head farmer, a tall bitch with farmer's muscles, greets you.
"Train him? For what?"

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429383

"I just wanted an official sounding reason to come out here. It's been hectic, with the caravans and newcomers and adoptions, I'd like nothing more than to be outside. How are the two new charges of yours coming along?"

Just go ahead and lie down next to the others.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429384

I'll start off making… I'll just focus on a single breastplate for now.

Roll #1 8 = 8

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429385

"Got the idea from the glassmaker, actually. He made a mug for himself out of glass, and I thought, well, gems are close enough. So I found one big enough, and made a mug out of it."
I'll frown a little at it.
"I still think I could have done better, though it is serviceable."
I'll send Spinel back to the others laden with sandwiches and something for her to drink with the others.
Fetching myself a roast, I'll top off my mug with some frothy alcohol and return to the seat.
"I could always make you one, if you want. Or if you'd rather just get a stein studded with gemstones, that would work too."

Crunch [Knight] 429386

"Yeah, good idea. See if you guys can manage to beat my record, eh?'
Wave him off and head back to the wood shop.

Lorik 429387

"Don't be. Ask my assistants for help if you can't think of something."
Now back to that goddamned hospital.
Time to teach this pony some goddamn magic.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429388

Can I start making something useful now? '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

Campfire 429389

"We only got the one gryphon, and we're still trying to get him acclimated."
She stops talking and cheers as diamond dog manages to stop a buffalo after almost fifteen feet. The gryphon jumps slightly as one of the diamond dogs claps him on the back.
"Once he gets used to how we do things I'm sure he'll make a great addition to the family. Here, have some grub."
She passes you a bowl full of berries and root vegetables.

Your arm grows a little sore as you carefully hammer the steel, which is much harder to work with than soft copper. Nonetheless, you are eventually rewarded with a great quality steel breastplate. Perhaps you should keep it for yourself? It is the first one produced in the fortress, after all, and it is much to big for the Alpha to wear.

She chokes on her food a little before taking a big swig of her wine.
"You'd make me a giant gem mug, just like that?"

"Will do, boss."
He returns to his bed. Your gryphon bows and the other dogs wave as you enter.
"Here to help us with our work?"

She sits in front of you, waiting to be taught.

You find a bar of steel at the bottom of a pile of silver bars. With a clear, cam mind you hammer out a pair of greaves to go with your steel helmet, mail shirt, and shield. Your two slaves return the room.

Crunch [Knight] 429390

"Yeah. The barracks needs some new practice dummies. You all know what to do?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429391

I set it aside and begin working on a smaller breastplate for Boyar now.

Roll #1 10 = 10

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429392

"Well, I could try. Takes a pretty big gem to make a decent mug, and if I can keep the dig dogs from pocketing them I should be able to get one or two chances here and there."
I'll take a swig.
"Or I could just give you my spare, if you don't mind smaller, second-paw mugs."

Lorik 429393

Tap her horn
"How good is your magic? As a unicorn, you have the benefit of owning a natural catalyst. Very useful trait for healers. Can always be regrown with Mend too."

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429394

"Family, huh? I'm not going to say I'm not jealous of how thing have been working out here since I've taken other responsibilities. And the Unicorn, how is he doing? Having fun with him yet?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429395

Hammer out a face mask for my stallion metalsmith '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Campfire 429396

"Unless you make them yourself they are going to go at the bottom of the list. We've got beds, tables, and chairs that need to be made."

Working quickly, lest you lose your rhythm, you hammer out a pup sized breastplate for your little brother. While it is still soft from the heat you scratch the holy symbol of God Supernoble onto the center of it.

"Not at all."
She takes another bite and laughs.
"A bitch might start to think a dog is getting sweet on her after being offered so many wonder gifts."

"It is untrained, Master. my levitation skills are on par with every other unicorn owned here."

"Well, you treat your slaves right and they turn into good people, instead of good tools. There weren't any free unicorn stallions, so we didn't get a unicorn. Maybe next time."

You heat and hammer a bar of copper until it is the proper shape to fit over your stallion's face. Once it has cooled you have him try it on. It fits well, but will need something to fasten it onto his face.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429397

I smile.
He's going to love this for sure.
Oh why not.
I'm gonna use the other 3 bars to make more breastplates. Most effective piece of armor after all.

Roll #1 1 = 1

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429398

"The first one was what I promised you for the paw. The second because you thought it was funny and I didn't think I'd be able to sell it."
I'll idly tap the side of my mug.
"And this is I guess just an offer to a friend maybe."
Yes, I think it's time I either ate or drank. Mm, this roast is delicious. This booze as well. Did I ever have time for socializing before I had slaves?
"Besides, as I recall you saying, you weren't much one for settling on any one dog."

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429399

After making sure the food is secured around the ground for a bit because I was certain I sent them one.

How many times do I roll around?

"I'm locking the door to them next. A couple of dogs were arguing about them when I arrived, and others were probably picked up before then. Any unicorn that shows up comes straight here."

Roll #1 9 = 9

"That wil do then. Remember that your horn is the center of your power. Everything relies on your catalyst. The stronger the catalyst the stronger the spells and the less likely spells go wrong."
Well, time to teach her the very basics.

Roll #1 2 = 2

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429401

Point to them
"Ask a leatherworker for belting"

and then start on a small set of armored bracers for the stallion '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429402

>Roll around the ground

Crunch [Knight] 429403

"Well then I can speed that up. What are you working on now?"

Campfire 429404

The bar of steel slips as you hold it steady with a pair of tongs, and you hit the tongs instead. They twist and you yelp as you feel several of your fingers become dislocated.

Maybe you did, but you always found something else to fill it.
"I think you misunderstood me. I'm not a floozy. I'm not going to go and share a room with any dog that flexes his muscles at me or gets run over by a buffalo, but if I find a sweet, hardworking guy…"
She takes a sip, eyes on you.

You roll around nine times.
"If you can buy us a stallion that would be great."
There is some laughter as a diamond dog gets thrown over the top of the buffalo. The buffalo helps the dog up then takes a bow.
"Care to join the fun?"

Her face scrunches up in confusion. If only you had a horn you would know how to teach unicorns better.

They leave the room. You try to make some bracers for him, but keep smooshing them as you work.

"Beds. We've got over a hundred that still need to be made."

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429405

"Sure, it was pretty exhilarating the first time I did it. Let's see how I do the second time."

Take a stance, and get ready.

Roll #1 2 = 2

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429406

I yelp and pull my paw away, then run off to find a doctor.
'1d10' for speed at which I find the doctor..

Roll #1 5 = 5

Don't you taunt me with such fantasies!
"I'll explain that again."

Roll #1 9 = 9

Get to work then.
"For the new arrivals?"

Roll #1 4 = 4

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429409

Goodness me, did this lunch just get awkward. Glitter Bronzelilac, what the devil are you doing.
"I… uh, I see."
How do those smiths make it so easy? And they've got to sell it as a team!
"Well, uh, I…"
Drink. Oh Bronzelilac do I drink. Where in blazes am I supposed to go with this? She can't mean a short dog like me. But then again, she's liked the gems…
"I don't suppose I'm under consideration, then?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429410

Weaken them, then start over and add reinforcing rings around the edges '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Campfire 429411

The large cow snorts and charges at you. You grab her horns wrong and she flips you up and onto her soft back before she can run you over. She slows to a stop as soon as you land.
"Are you okay up there, miss?"

You find the doctor in the hospital playing catch with his unicorn while the donkey takes inventory. He sees you fingers.
"I can pop those back into place quick enough. Want a strip of leather or some anesthetics?"

She nods her head.
"Speeding up the natural regrowth of tissues with magic? I think I understand that, doctor. Will you give me an example?"
She is now rolling at -3.

"For the new fortress. Currently most everydog is hotbunking with in threedog shifts, as well ass sleeping in any bed they can find in the hospital or the slave pins."

A slave refills your mug. She smiles and her eyes twinkle with a playful light.
"I'm afraid if I answer that you'll give yourself alcohol poisoning. I've never seen anydog drink that fast and stay upright."

You do that, but they still wind up a little lumpy. Your two slaves return with a few stripes of leather, two already fastened to the mask as straps.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429412

"Anesthetics please…"

Take out my scalpel and make a small cut in my arm.
"Go ahead."

Roll #1 5 - 3 = 2

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429414

I'm still upright? '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429415

"Your soft. Can I just stay up here?"

Accept that I can't and try not to fall down dizzy.

Which of the work dogs are nearby who I think could use a slave or two. Still have a good number to go through.

Roll #1 4 = 4

"Can't have that. Guess it's a good thing we've become so popular."
Let's see if I can match their speed.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429417

Looks like.
"It's probably going to hit me later."
I'll refrain for drinking for the moment.
"I would still like to hear the answer, even if I don't know what to do with it."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429418

Eh, as long as they are strong

Hand the bracers to the stallion

"Pegasus, name."

Campfire 429419

"Alright. Donkey, fetch me those herbs I bought."
The donkey takes some herbs out of a pouch in a green class chest and carry them over to the doctor, who takes them and gives them to you.
"Sit down on a bed and chew on these."
Roll when you do so.

She tries, and fails. Her face scrunches again.
"Sorry, Master. May I see how it is done first, Master?"

You are. Your throat burns a little, but that's all.
"You're the only one I've got my eyes on, Pom. You're a sweet guy and you treat you slaves right. I like that."
She takes another bite of her food.

You keep pace with them easily and are able to finish a number of beds with them.
"Want to keep going?"

You roll off her side and land on the sift, tilled earth. She helps you up and sends you on your way with several farewells from the stallion, the buffaloes, and the dogs. The glassworker, leatherworker, woodburners, hunters, and woodcutters have no slaves. Quill clears his throat.
"Mistress, it may be wise to leave a few of the slaves unclaimed as a general workforce. From experience I know that one is needed to help clear the mines."

He puts them on along with his mask, fastening them with more of the leather strips.
"Quickwings, master?"

"Of course."
Heal myself.

Roll #1 2 = 2

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429421

I take a few and start chewing.

Roll #1 4 = 4

Lorik [Doctor] 429422

I sigh
"Or not. And don't call me master. I am the doctor. You are a nurse now."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429423

"Good… good.. quickwings"

start on some proper trading material, but really this is to teach Hammer how to take lesser works into something that's still useful

Roll #1 2 = 2

Campfire 429424

You rub your cut with a paw. The unicorn waits patiently for you to start healing yourself.

Your head expands to fill the room, then shrinks back to normal size and leaves you feeling like you way only half as much as you really do.
"Annnnnnd done. Give 'em a wiggle."

"Sorry, doctor."

You try to use a pick and chisel to make a mold for figurines, one of the tings requested by the diamond dog trader, but end up splitting the soft stone.

"Don't be sorry. Just remember."
Heal myself!

Roll #1 10 = 10

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429426

"I guess you're right. It would be a hassle to ask each of them. Let's focus on the big issue of the goats. Let's find Crunch and see if he made those collars yet."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429427

…Oh god I'm tripping balls aren't I.
I try to wiggle my fingers.

Roll #1 2 = 2

"Yeah, every dog deserves a place to sleep."

Roll #1 2 = 2

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429429

And the tail wags the dog. No, wait, it's wagging properly.
I'll just let that sink in for a moment, and blink a few times.
"Well, uhm. Wow. I don't… this is a first, actually."
I'll set my mug down on the table.
"I'm not really certain how this whole thing works, but, uh, if it's what you want, then I guess, I mean…"
Thank Glitter for fur. I'd be redder than a hot forge right now without it.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429430

"Hehehahahahaha! Hammer, Help. Quickwings, take notes for Hammer to read"

Come on lets try this again '1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Campfire 429431

You run a finger over the cut and it vanishes. the mare nods her head.
"I see it now, I think."
She is now rolling at -1.

He nods his head.
"I was glad I could help. Yes, Mistress."
Crunch is in the Carpteners' workshop.

Work is halted as all of you find a few pieces of termite infested wood and carry them to the woodburners' workshops.

She frowns.
"Slow down. All I'm saying is I'd like to spend more time with you. Get to know you. Maybe, just maybe, one day I'll hang my vest up next to yours, but until then we are just friends."

Hammer attempts to help.

Roll #1 2 - 1 = 1

Campfire 429432

Hammer ends up denting his facemask, but you are able to make a mold for molten metal to be poured into. Quickwings looks up from her notes.
"Master, there are trashmetals we can use for this like nickel and tin."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429433

Get back to it. Living underground you find these things everywhere.

Roll #1 4 = 4

Make another small cut
"Now try and see if you can replicate."

Roll #1 2 - 1 = 1

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429436

"Sorry to be a bother again, but were you able to make some collars for the goats so we can begin their 'training'?"

Campfire 429437

Your fingers wiggle themselves around the room before tickling you on the nose. You sneeze.
"Ooookay. Donkey, write down that I need to decrease the dosage next time. Moloch, you may want to lie down until it wares off which will be…I don't know how long. I just bought these today."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429438

I'll sigh in relief and sink a little into my chair.
"Oh thank Glitter. I like you, really, but I know next to nothing in that field."
Relaxing a little, I'll continue eating that roast.
"Well, in that case, the occasional lunch or dinner shouldn't be too hard to come up with. And who knows when we'd run across each other in the fort otherwise."
I'll nod slightly.
"And it would be good getting to know you better as well."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429439

YES! THE FACEMASK WORKS! Grin at this little achievement

"Oooh really now?

Ehehahhaahhaahah! Niice NICE! Make sure to note that too!

See if I can make at least 1 more from the trash metals '1d10' with Hammer's help this time.

Roll #1 7 = 7

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429440

Well this is going to create some complications.
I guess I lie down and try to relax.
How long do they last?

Roll #1 9 = 9

Campfire 429441

The termites broke the rhythm of the group and you all are slow to find it again. The group only makes two beds.

She focuses and you feel the burn of magical overload in your arm before the cut tears itself open even further. The mare starts freaking out.

She goes back to eating her roast and tells you the times that she normally eats.
"I'd try to match your schedule some of the time, but I've got practices and drills to attend."
She grins slyly.
"I think we've got a set of pup's armor around that you can wear when you visit."

Hammer helps.

Not too long. They pass and leave you with a headache, which passes once you take a drink of water.

Roll #1 10 - 1 = 9

I wince and quickly try to Mend the wound back shut.
"Should be fine. Calm down, nurse."

Roll #1 3 + 2 = 5

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429443

Is my paw well enough to get back to work?

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429444

I'll roll my eyes.
"Oh, I can hardly wait."
I'll make a note to bring Spinel with me. If she learns how to fight a little, she'll be able to keep Luster a bit safer while she's watching him. Wonder if our warrior dogs will teach her?
"As for matching my schedule, I hardly leave my shop except to sleep, and eat if things are going slow. Otherwise I'm usually either in there, or one of my slaves will be to tell you where I've gone. So feel free to drop in whenever you'd like."

Campfire 429445

You hold the mold in place while hammer levitates molten copper out of the furnace and lets it pour into the mold. He doesn't spill a drop.
He is now a Novice.

Man, where did we get this wood?

Some, I think. They should be in the leatherworks. I didn't get to far before slicing myself up."

Roll #1 6 = 6

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429447

"How about making one for each member of your squad. We can have them help and speed up the number we can educate."

Campfire 429448

You can't get the wound to shut.If you were a unicorn you wouldn't have arms and this wouldn't be a problem.

Yup. All the pain is gone and all the function is returned.

"I will."
She finishes her meal and licks her plate clean.
"I've got a bit more time left if you want to show me how you do your work."

Who knows.
The lot of you keep working and make five more beds.

Try again.
"Miscasts always a possibility. No need to be sorry about the inevitable."

Roll #1 8 + 2 = 10

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429450

"And I can paw you over that mug, too."
Draining mine, '1d10', I'll hop to the floor and set off to the shop. Assuming I don't immediately feel the amount of booze I've been drinking.

Roll #1 10 = 10

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429451

Double hurray.
I return back to my wor-
Actually, do I see my assistants anywhere around? Not going to bother them, but does it look like they're enjoying their day off?

Campfire 429452

You snap your fingers and heal the wound. your unicorn looks at you with awe in her eyes.
"Amazing, Master! I will try to avoid those in the future."

You drain your full mug in one big gulp then stand and walk off without swaying even a little bit. Poet whistles and follow you. the two of you get back to your workshop. Gem and Spinnel greet you and Poet.

You check your room and see them all playing on instruments or painting.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429453

And now that that has once again lifted my spirits, back to work!
Pump out three steel breastplates!

Roll #1 3 = 3

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429454

Let's grab what Crunch made and see if there is another available leatherworking dog.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429455

I'll nod back to them, and then fish out the spare mug from the cupboards.
"Here you are. Now, is there anything you'd particularly like to see, or should I just wait for inspiration?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429456

He's a unicorn?

Let it settle, and then pick it up once it cools

How many more are needed?

Now that I think about it, didn't I ask one of the hunters to collect vermin to practice healing magic on?

In any case, make another small cut in my arm.
"Try again."

Roll #1 6 - 1 = 5

Campfire 429458

You have a difficult time getting the hard metal to bend right and are only able to make one.

You grab three leather collars with bone clasps and find another leatherworker making boots.
"How can I help you?"

She turns the blue crystal mug over in her paws and holds it up to her eye.
"It's beautiful, Pom. Make whatever you are inspired to make."

I misremembered.
As many as you can make. The more you make the more that can be sold.

He stopped once your two slaves learned all they could.
She focuses, but cannot summon enough magical power.
"I am sorry, Doctor."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429459

One more try!
Just gotta make two more!

Roll #1 6 = 6

"Collars for them?"

How far along are we?

Roll #1 2 = 2

"You were close. Keep trying, you'll get it right if you focus your magic correctly."

Roll #1 10 - 1 = 9

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429462

"I'm Aidi, the one put in charge of re-educating the goat captives for our needs. I'd like to get a few more collars to make it easier for our militia to train them."

"Collars for the goats. If I can get your militia dogs to help me, they'll use the collars to keep the goats in line. Literally."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429463

Whatever I want, huh? Well, let's see… something simple, because I've had a lot to drink. I think I'll make… ah, what the hell, I can blame it on the alcohol. I'll make a nice, big, red heart. '1d10+4'

Roll #1 6 + 4 = 10

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429464

Hey I don't mind the convenient change of race

Another! '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Crunch [Knight] 429465

"Not sure how many of them know the work, but it's worth a shot."

Campfire 429466

You make two good quality steel breastplates. They aren't fancy, but they offer real protection.

Not very. This will take weeks, at least.

Her horn lights up the room and your cut vanishes, not even leaving much of a scar. She smiles at her success.
She is now rolling at +0.

"Collars are easy. How many do you need?"

You find a red gem larger than your paw and start to cut it. Poet watches you work and starts to wag her tail when she she's what it is going to be. Once it is done she picks it up and gasps as it almost seems to beat when she tilts it back and forth in her paws.
"Pom, you sappy little runt!"
She bends over and gives you a quick kiss on the head.
"It's wonderful, like everything else that you've given me."
She sits down on a bench and looks up at you.
"What else have you got in those paws of yours?"

Hammer helps.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429467

And that's that.
I gather up all the breastplates except the first one, and head over to Crunch.
"Crunch? I finished up some… uh, steel armor."

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429468

"It's not much, really. We're basically going to take them for walks. Those that cooperate are rewarded with a minor bonus. The ones that resist will simply be chained to a wall and left outside, with supervision of course. They only need to be taught how superior their situation is if they behave properly."

"That depends on the size of the Squad available. I'd like to have a few dogs left in case they try to run for it."

Campfire 429469

The two of you make another set of tin soldiers, only one of whom is marred by bubbles left in the mold.

Campfire 429470

>except the first one
You mean the one for Boyar?

Lorik [Doctor] 429471

Can I teach my assistants PoH as well at some point?
"Well done. You learn quickly. Go see my assistants Purple Winter and Green Fall and learn to know them. You're colleagues now."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429472

"Only Glitter knows, really. You should have seen what I gave the smiths last time. It was a pair of gems, since they work in pairs, you know, and one of them fit into the other. If the light hit it right, it was practically hypnotizing. Probably would have kept it myself if I hadn't promised it to them."
I'll shake my head.
"Apparently they really liked it, since Copper is getting free metalcrafting lessons out of it."
I'll look to another gem. Let's see… I think I'll make this one something a little more complicated. Maybe a bird… '1d10+4'

Roll #1 8 + 4 = 12

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429473

I mean the one I'm keeping for myself. Boyar's was the second one.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429474

Fucking bubbles

"Hmmm hmm… hehehahahaha!

One more go! Then we eat and drink outside in the snow!

Improvise a better solution for non-bubble cooling while making another batch. Use that marred one too '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

Campfire 429475

"Just give me a number, sweetcheeks."

Prayer of Healing requires faith in a deity. having a slave worship a deity of their race never works well, and diamond dog deities ignore non diamond dogs.

You take a light green gem and start chipping at it with your chisel, cutting out each individual feather. Once the body is done you set two small black gems into sockets to act as eyes. After all of that is done you carve a base for it to sit on out of a clear gem. When it is all said and done you are left with a gem bird in midflight. Poet is completely speechless.

The bubbles are from air getting trapped in the mold while the metal is being poured. You poke a few more holes into the top of the cast.

Roll #1 3 = 3

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429476

I'll blink at it as well.
"Well. That certainly came out better than I thought it would."

Campfire 429477

The holes leave a bunch of little metal bits sticking off the figurines. When snapped off they leave behind bumps that clutter the figurines.

Still, maybe one day…
Make a mental note to find out more about pony deities.
While my assistants are doing… pony things, I'll walk around the fort and see if anyone is in need of medical aid.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429479

"Most of the squads are 6 dogs, right? So how about 3 more, one for each member of the squad. I might be able to get the other squads to help out at guard duty while the other does the training."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429480

"Eh. we can melt them down tomorrow. Or when another trader comes along. Come!"

Food! Drink! Outside!

Campfire 429481

Poet's tail is making wide, fast swing behind her and her eyes have a dreamy, far off look in them. You quickly realize the signs of gem bedazzlement, a sort of high most often experience by miners when they come across a rich vein or cluster of gems. You've long since become immune to it.
"It's wonderful, Pom."

You find a few diamond dogs with cuts, bruises, and scrapes that you easily fix. Each time you make sure to tell them your name and how much better your magic is compared to traditional medicine.

"Ten dogs, if you cont the leader. Want thirteen collars?"

The three of you grab some food and alcohol then head outside into the snow.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429482

"If you're offering. We can use the spares, or simply have more dogs help to speed up the process."

Lorik [Doctor] 429483

Get back to my three unicorns.
"I am pleased with your progress. Are you hungry or thirsty? Is there something you want? Anything at all?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429484

Toss a cloth over it, breaking her eye contact.
"Yes, and dangerous too."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429485

Plop my ass down and quickly get warm and full. This is surely a good day.

Campfire 429486

"It's like I said: collars are easy. Come back in ten minutes and I'll have you thirteen collars."

"Thank you, Doctor. We are hungry for lunch, Doctor."

You throw a cloth over it and most of the other well made things in your workshop. The sooner they are out of sight the sooner she will recover. She speaks in a dreamy, far-away voice.
"S'not dangerous. S'beutiful."
She smiles at you and wags her tail harder.
"You're a good friend, Pom."
Pom Rainian knows that bedazzled diamond dogs are left in a state of detached euphoria. While bedazzled they are slow witted, congenial, agreeable, lethargic, and easily manipulated.

You sit down in the cold snow and eat hot stew with your slaves. The sky is clear and blue, the sun warm and yellow.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429487

"Yes, Sir!"
Hop around like a happy dog. Let's see if we can convince some of the squads to help us in the training and guarding. Since the Caravans have left, we can use the trading depot as the training ground so they can't escape.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429488

I'll nod.
"Yes, it would seem so."
I'll snap my paw in front of her face.
"Come on now, back to your senses."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429489

Alright time to head back in with them. Tell the two to head back to the room and relax/study/whatever, then head to the trader's and sell off the set that wasn't melted down

Lorik [Doctor] 429490

Fetch these horned equines some lunch to nibble on. And for myself.
Then turn to the new mare as we eat.
"Decided on a name yet, nurse?"

Campfire 429491

You get a few members of Crunch's squad to help out of and most Switch's squad too. you get nine dogs plus yourself.

She laughs, licks your paw, then laughs again.

They go back to the room and your trade your figurines for cut gems and other easily tradeable items.

"Well, I like to sleep when I am not working, and I like bananas. Can I be called Banana Hammock?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429492

Nice! Now roam about until it's time to sleep
because I'm out, thanks.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429493

I'll just sigh.
"Well, looks like I can't let you leave for now. Spinel, could you fetch a blanket and a pillow? Gem, could tidy up that corner there?"
I'll just pat Poet on the head for the moment. Maybe scratch behind her ears.

Lorik [Doctor] 429494

"What kind of-"
I shake my head.
"No, if that is the name you want, I cannot judge. Nurse… Banana Hammock it is."
Ponies are weird…
"Remember, you are Doctor Lorik's assistant. You don't need to follow any orders from other dogs. Especially not that other doctor. Do not talk to him, understood? He's incredibly dense."

Campfire 429495

You walk through the fortress for a while before returning to your room and falling into bed.
Goodnight, thanks for playing.

Panting and wagging her tail hard enough to repeatedly whack you in the back, Poet leans into your as your pat her head and scratch her ears. Gem levitates the clutter out of the corner then sits down to watch you with a bemused smile on her face. Spinnel returns a few minutes later with a few blankets and a pillow. She coughs back a laugh when she sees Poet still leaning on you. Once her mirth is contained she makes a bed from the blankets in the cleared corner.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429496

"I don't want to risk anything for our first time, so let's have five dogs lead five goats by the collar, while the rest stand guard. We'll just walk them around in laps for now. Any that resist, we tie up to one of the walls with a very short chain and just leave them there under supervision."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429497

"Alright, Poet, time to take a nap. Here you go."
And I'll lead her over to the bedding.

Lorik [Doctor] 429498

Campfire 429499

She nods her head.
"Yes, Master."
After that she frowns.
"Is something wrong with my name, Doctor? Do you not like it?"

They all nod as you all walk into the slave pin then down the long hallway to the locked door. Behind the door are the goats from the raid. For nearly a month the only contact they have had with the outside world is the diamond dog who brings them food. He does not speak to them.

She tries to give you another kiss as you help her into bed, but she loses her balance and falls into the blankets. After you get a blanket over her and a pillow under her head she quickly falls asleep.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429500

I'll pat her head and leave her to sleep, then walk over to Gem and Spinel.
"Obviously this never leaves this room, understood?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429501

I wave a paw dismissively
"Pony names are just strange to diamond dogs. I don't know what to make of the name. I neither like or dislike it."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429502

Well uh
Since Gaius isn't here I guess I can't really do anything.

I'll just say that I dropped them off with him, and then I go back and grab Boyar's armor and go find him.

zulu 429503

I open up my office door.

"Yes, Moloch?"

Boyar (Preacher) 429504

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429505

Have five of them chosen at random. Let the dogs decide the ones they will take. Collar them and take them to the depot.

Simply tell them: "Walk."

We need to see their reactions.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429506

I present him the armor, with a engraving of the symbol of God Supernoble on it.

Boyar (Preacher) 429507

"Truly exquisite work, brother. A symbol of your prowess as a smith. I'll wear it with pride."

Campfire 429508

They both nod.
"Understood, Master."

You will need to roll.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429509

Roll #1 4 = 4

Lorik [Doctor] 429510

I raise a brow

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429511

I chuckle.
"You're welcome. That should definitely keep you safe in battle."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429512

I'll look at the covered works I've made.
"Seems I'll need to be more careful about which dogs see what."
I'll make a mental note that I should make a small gem vault beneath our new room once the lower floors have been secured.

Campfire 429513

Three adult billies and two adult nannies are collared. One nanny walks after her collar is tugged on a few times. A billy goat refuses to walk no matter how hard his collar is tugged. The remaining three rear up and headbutt the diamond dogs.

"Oh, Doctor?"

They are all quite beautiful. It's now wonder a diamond dog who hasn't seen many gems in her life became bedazzled in here.

Roll #1 3, 5, 8 = 16

Campfire 429514

Two of the diamond dogs are able to restrain their goats before they get hit, but the third billy manages to headbutt his dog before he is forced to the ground, cursing every diamond dog in the room. the other dogs you took quickly move into the room.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Campfire 429515

And the rest of the goats stay calm, but a couple of them glare at all of you.

Lorik [Doctor] 429516

"Nevermind. How is your food?"

Campfire 429517

She nods her head.
"It is good, Doctor."
She looks at what you are eating.
"Is there not meat in your food, Master?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429518

Tie all three of them up to a wall, no opportunity of moving.

Take the goat that managed to run and tie him down in the center and throw cold water on him. Make sure he can be heard.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429519

And I guess I leave after that.

I guess I go grab some food while I'm at it. Do I see anyone interesting out here? I haven't really been interacting with very many other dogs outside of my brother…

Roll #1 5 = 5

Lorik [Doctor] 429520

Keep munching.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429521

Yep, those are staying covered until they're moved or binned. I think I'll keep the Bird Gem for now. Maybe I'll mount it over the door of my new room eventually. Or just keep it as a conversation piece. Well, whatever. Poet could wake up whenever, so I can't leave without fear of her bedazzling herself again. That is an interesting trick, though. I wonder if it would work on other dogs.
Anyway, I'll tidy up the shop, and then tell Spinel and Gem that they can fetch Quartz, Copper, and Luster, and then head to the bathing area. If anydog gives them gruff, just tell them that the Gemcutter doesn't want smelly slaves.
Sniffing myself, I'll say that I'll end up going after Poet's woken up.
And then I guess I'll wait.

Campfire 429522

The three that fought are tied to metal rings on the walls of the room. The other goats stay silent.
No goat ran. One of the goats obeyed the walk command after her collar was tugged on a few times.

Not really. Just bitches and studs eating their meals while taking a break from their work. You see diamond dogs from every profession in the fortress here.

She looks concerned.
"Why not, Master? I was told that diamond dogs need meat to maintain their strength."

The three of them leave. After about about an hour Poet stirs.
"Uhnn, wha-? What?"
She sits bolt upright and looks around, then locks her eyes on you.
"Pom! What happened? Why am I lying in some makeshift bed?""

Aidi E'betting [Slaver] 429523

My mistake.

Keep the three locked up and make sure their mouths are tied down. Get three more goats and try with them. Again, let the dogs pick for themselves.

Roll #1 10 = 10

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429524

"What's the last thing you remember? And you're lying in a makeshift bed because I thought that would be more comfortable than the floor."

Lorik [Doctor] 429525

"I am strong, nurse. Meat or not. Food is food."

Campfire 429526

Two more billies and a nanny are collared. They all walk without objection or incident to the trade depot, which is thankfully empty.

She rubs her head.
"I remember…bright lights and gems."
She slowly look at at all the covered things.
"I got bedazzled, didn't I?"

"Okay, Doctor."
She continues eating.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429527

I'll nod.
"It would seem so. I'll be a bit more careful about that in the future."

Knight 429528

Give them a bit of food at the end of this. Take them back and get 5 more goats. We'll continue until we've separated the resistors from the more controllable ones.

Roll #1 5 = 5

Lorik [Doctor] 429529

When they're done, clean up what's left and look the three of them over.
Take out my scalpel.
"Mend is a more advanced and stronger form of the basic healing spell. It is also more dangerous when a miscast happens. Miscasting will result in making bad things even worse, which can lead to death. But when it succeeds… it can restore the most grievous of wounds completely. I want all three of you to master it eventually. It will save lives."

Campfire 429531

She looks down and rubs her head again, but quickly looks up.
"Did I do anything stupid? Did you do anything stupid?"

Rolling my dice.

She nods her head.
"Who will I practice on, Doctor?"

"Vermin. But that wont be for today. Nurse Fall and Winter, you are free to do as you please. If you want work, do some stonecrafting."
Cut myself again.
"Nurse Banana, try to heal again."

Roll #1 10 - 1 = 9

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429533

"You mostly sat still, wagging your tail until I told you to take a nap. Then you immediately went to sleep."

Campfire 429534

They eat the food quietly ad return to the pin. Five nannies are collared this time. One walks when ordered, two walk when their collars are tugged a few time, one refuses to walk, and one tries to butt the dog holding her.

"We are feeling tired after the meal, Doctor."
"We will lie down in your room."
She heals up your cut and hardly leaves a blemish behind.

She narrows her eyes.
"And that's all that happened?"

Roll #1 7 = 7

Campfire 429535

Which she is able to, but she is talked by another diamond dog.

Roll #1 1 = 1

Campfire 429536

And all hell breaks loose. The eight goats that are both free and adults attack.

Roll #1 4, 7, 6, 10, 1, 6, 9, 3 = 46

Campfire 429537

Lorik [Doctor] 429538

"Very good. Impressive progress, nurse. You can be proud of yourself."
Pat her on the head.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429539

"I swear on my craft."

Campfire 429540

She smiles and rubs her head against your paw.

She squintsat you for a few seconds longer then relaxes.
"Good. You're a good dog, Pom. I'll see you at lunch tomorrow."
She stand up and leaves.

Campfire 432010

At some point in time before Aidi decided to try and break the goats, the following events occurred.

You are in your cramped room with Quill when a diamond dog knocks on your door.

You sit on your comfy bed while Memory sits on the floor with a brush balanced on her head.
"Are you ready yet, Master?"

>Everyone else

Be wherever you want to be.

Campfire 432015

Or, for all we know, these events occur after the goat rebellion was put down. Time is a funny thing, here in the fortress.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432024

"No, sleep. I don't want to get up."
Still, roll out of bed, but on some presentable clothes, and go answer.

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432025

Point at the thing.
"What that?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432026

"You will catch up to the others in no time. That means I can teach you more advanced spells soon too."

Crunch [Knight] 432035

How's bedmaking going?

Wf+6 432048

Did I finish training those wannabe hunters?

Switch [Pilgrim] 432049

Campfire 432053

There is a diamond dog standing outside.
"Miss Aidi, there are diplomats from the zebra and pony capitols wanting to meet either with this fortress's Alpha, or with its head trader."
You can ignore this if you want to.

"It's a brush. You promised to brush my coat before you started work today, remember?"
Her headdress flashes as it reflects torchlight.

She smiles.
"Thank you, Master. Whenever a dog hears the words Banana Hammock I want them to think of you and your skill in training your slaves."

"Hello, Crunch. We've finished the last of the beds. Can you try and find a runt bitch by the name of Koka? She put in an order for some tables and chairs and we want to clarify a few things."

You put them off until spring, but luckily spring has just arrived.

Koka [Chef] 432054

Back to the room we go!
"You got a name zebra?"

Crunch [Knight] 432057

"Yeah, sure. What did you need to ask her?"

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432058

Roll #1 2 = 2

Lorik [Doc dog] 432061

"Doctor. And you are my assistant. Don't use that other word."

Campfire 432064

She shakes her head.
"No, mistress. I understand that it is a tradition here for diamond dogs to name their slaves after adopting them."

"We want to know if she is certain that she wants the tables and chairs made from wood instead of stone, metal, or glass. We've already got a lot of furniture that is either going to be burned or sold when the fortress moves out of this hill and into the stone and we don't want waste any more wood."

You do, in fact, remember promising to brush not only her coat but her mane as well. Maybe being around your slave is helping your memory get better?

She looks down.
"Sorry, Doctor. My old training is hard to break, but I will do my very best for you."

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432066

Shrug, and motion her to get closer so I don't have to stand up.

Koka [Chef] 432073

"This gunna be as hard as wid Cook…"
Motion him over.
"Explain her."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432078

"Good. Counting on you to do healing magic justice."

Switch [Pilgrim] 432080

I will take the lot of them out, along with the slaves that I gathered up for hunting. First off, convert those slaves to hunter slaves with my Slaver (3 [or 4?] ranks).

Roll #1 6 = 6

Crunch [Knight] 432084

Let's go pull some dog aside and ask where she went.

Campfire 432091

She hops up onto the bed.
"Be gentle, Master. You wouldn't want to hurt your faithful slave, would you?"

He explains to her that she should choose her own name, and that it should come from the heart. She thinks for a bit.
"Mistress, may I choose my name after my first day of work?"

She nods and strikes a pose.
"I will, Doctor, I promise!"

Do you remember what the races were?
Three ranks.
You are able to quickly impart the importance of stealth and making sure the wind blows their scent away from the prey instead of towards it. After they have learned that lesson you teach them how to use their natural weapons to distract or hurt prey while the hunters bring it down.

"I think I saw her going back to her room with a new slave."
He gives you a few directions on how to get there from here.

Crunch [Knight] 432098

Hunt her down!
"Hey, Koka. You in here?"

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432102

"Kopaz know how dig.
Not how gentle."
Try to gently brush her?

Roll #1 5 = 5

Switch [Pilgrim] 432103

I don't believe you ever told me their races.

Let's go out on a hunt. Look for some prey.

'1d10' (Survival)

Roll #1 1 = 1

Lorik [Doc dog] 432108

"Good. Go rest now. Or get to know the other nurses better."

Koka [Chef] 432109

"Can you! Sure! Ahah!"
And with a wide smile, we go to my old room.
"Find a spot to sleep on the bed. We go to work soon."

Campfire 432123

You see Koka and here two slaves, a pegasus stallion and a zebra mare, approaching down the narrow hallway.

Like a retard petting a dog. She grits her teeth while you brush her, but in the end her coat and mane look nicer. She jumps back onto the floor.
"Very good, master. Now the other diamond dogs will be even more jealous of you because your slave is even more beautiful. The overseer said you did not have to dig today if you did not want to."

You get a +3 bonus to Survival rolls.
A small bolt flies out of a bush and hits a donkey slave in the neck. It falls over.

"Thank you, Doctor. Where is your room so I can meet the others?"

You see Crunch, the leader of on the the milita squads, waiting outside your door.

Roll #1 5 = 5

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432127

"What do not dig?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432134

Lead her there.
… She probably doesn't have a bed of her own yet, does she?

Koka [Chef] 432141

Jerk my head.
"Lookin' fer the house special?"

Switch [Pilgrim] 432142

Oh boy.

"Go! Rain arrows on it! Stab it!"

Stab a finger in the direction of the bush, then heal the slave.

DDOM (+1 per wound) '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Campfire 432143

"Whatever you want. Eat, drink, explore, talk with others. Anything you can think of."
She smile as she says the last part.

Nope. Your three slaves greet each other politely, you two older slaves complimenting your choice.

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432145

Roll #1 1 = 1

Crunch [Knight] 432146

"Nah. Got a question from the carpenters. They want to know if you're sure you want your order in wood, since we're trying to conserve it right now."

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432147

"Diplomats, huh? I should let the Alpha handle this, but since they are asking about the Head Trader too, let me put on my good clothes and head out. Where are the diplomats now?"

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432149

"Get gems?
Count gems?
Get gems cut?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432152

"Nurse Winter and Fall, you will need to share a bed until I get a bed for nurse Hammock."

Campfire 432155

The eight diamond dogs you gathered unleash a volley of arrows and the three remaining slaves rush into the bushes.
You bend down and carefully cut two incisions into the donkey's neck. Once you can see that the bolt will not cut anything major you gently pull it out and pour a blueish liquid into the hole. It turns to gel and the donkey starts to breath easier.

She nods her head fervently.
"A very good choice, Master! Come, let us gather our share of gems from the mine."

"The is fine, Master."
"I do not mind sharing with two mares."

Roll #1 2, 1, 6, 8, 2, 5, 8, 9 = 41 / Roll #2 1, 5, 1 = 7

Koka [Chef] 432156

Shake my head.
Maek it whaddeywant. Just make it comfy."
Step inside.
"Wanna comein?"

Campfire 432158

They are waiting inside the room you built near the trade depot. The zebra has a clear glass vial full of a liquid that looks like melted gold.

Lorik [Doc dog] 432161

I roll my eyes.
"Don't be stupid. There are three beds. One for me, one for you two and one for nurse Hammock."

Crunch [Knight] 432162

"Yeah, sure. Just don't want to force you to throw it all away once we start burning stuff."

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432164

Make sure Quill stays in my room and out of sight before I go in.

"What is that?" I say with a rather hungry look while staring at it.

"I mean, it's nice to make your acquaintance, I'm the Head Trader of this Fortress. What can I do for that vial, I MEAN YOU, what can I do for you?"

Koka [Chef] 432167

"Ah dun worry. Dogs will drink even on da floor. Make it'n rock if ya want."
Make him one of my sandwiches.

Roll #1 9 + 1 = 10

Campfire 432174

A pegasus leaps into the air to divebomb the thing in the bush is shot by a hunter's stray arrow. A goat that leaps into the bush screams as something inside stabs it and another arrow pieces its side. The other arrows flew well, for the most part, and a pin-cushioned bushwoolie stumbles out of the bush and collapses in a pool of blood.

Switch [Pilgrim] 432178

"Dogs, bag that bushwoolie. Slave, go stabilize that pegasus!"

Treat the goat. DDOM '1d10' (+1 Per Wound)

Roll #1 1 = 1

Campfire 432179

Green fall gives an embarrassed laugh while Purple Winter glares at him. Banana Hammock stands next to your awkwardly.

They give each other knowing looks. The unicorn starts off.
"We are each interested in strengthening our trade relations with this fortress, which we hear will soon become the mountainhome, the capitol, of a new diamond dog empire. Unlike your brothers and sisters to the south, our peoples have no…unpleasant history with you."
"On top of that, the crafts your fortress produces are new and interesting. The contents of this vial, for instance, and the vial itself are of particular interest to us."
"If you can continue to provide us with good quality crafts and this…this golden salve, we will provide you with what diamond dogs desire the most."
The unicorn uses his magic to set three iron bars and four iron instruments on the table.

You grab two pieces of strawberry bread and place some meat, potato, and plump helmet in between them.

The goat is dead when you get there, his throat cut and the arrow piercing his heart.

Switch [Pilgrim] 432182

Treat the pegasus, then. '1d10' DDOM

Roll #1 4 = 4

Koka [Chef] 432186

Offer one to Crunch and dig into the other.

Crunch [Knight] 432188

Gratefully take it and dig in myself.
"So what have you been up to anyway?"

Koka [Chef] 432191

"Makin' da best o' the supplies we got.
An' starting da bar. Wanna try mah paw at brewin'."

Campfire 432192

You manage to get the pegasus to hold still. The arrow is embedded in the meat of his back.

Lorik [Doc dog] 432194

I shake my head
"Treat nurse Hammock well. She shows a lot of potential."

Crunch [Knight] 432195

"Hah! About time we got around to that here."

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432196

"Capitol of a new Diamond Dog Empire, eh? I like the sound of that. But that's something above my discretion. I can agree to being even better trade partners, though. Many of the dogs here are more than happy and fulfilled by their duties, and knowing that we have eager partners on the other side willing to purchase our goods will no doubt make them happy."

"But, of what interest to you is that golden salve that you'd like more of it?"

Koka [Chef] 432202

"Spread da word!"
Grin at him."
How're da boys doin in da trainin?"

Crunch [Knight] 432204

"Well enough that we need new dummies. We're so backed up with orders that they have to practice hitting each other for now."

Campfire 432205

"We will, Master. Do you want us to take her to the gryphon for practice?"

"It has a rather unique…"
"Yes. A rather unique effect on equines. A very pleasant one. Because of this buying in home markets is very difficult."
"However, your species is not affected by golden salve. We can trust that your prices will be fair."

Switch [Pilgrim] 432206

Fix him up, then. '1d10+1' DDOM

"Stay still, Pegasus. What is your name?"

And what is the remaining slaves called?

Roll #1 8 + 1 = 9

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432208

Koka [Chef] 432209

"Dat's gotta hurt!
Ah shoul' try'n brew somethin ta keep'em from feelin' it!"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432212

"That would be helpful. I will explore the fortress in the meantime."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432217

Wake up.
Where am I?

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432218

"Of course! Happy trade partners are ones who come back again and again. I'll let the dogs who made this know and we'll try to make sure you get a steady supply. We have our own basic needs, but knowing both of your nations will provide us with what we need takes a lot of pressure of us."

"I know you'd like more of that Golden Salve, but as the Head Trader, I can request our craftsdog focus on other things you may need."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432221

Wake up!
Where am I?

Campfire 432232

You numb the arrena with some herbs you find then slice it open and pull out the arrow.
"I haven't one, mam. How are the diamond dogs? Are they well?"

>She nods her head fervently.
>"A very good choice, Master! Come, let us gather our share of gems from the mine."

They take her off the see the gryphon, the wonderful gryphon of Oz.
You are now standing outside your room is a very cramped hallway. From up and down the hallway you can hear the sounds of domestic life in a fortress. Snatches of voice come from your left and right. In the distance you can hear the pitter patter of small paws as a small pack of pups runs up and down a nearby hallway. You can hear adult dogs resting and talking. You can hear slaves playing small instruments, slaves being taught lessons, slaves being disciplined, and slaves trying to keep up with the aforementioned pack of pups. Through sandy loam wall in front of you you hear the clink of plates and mugs and the sound of laughter and mildly drunken song as diamond dogs eat in the dining hall.

"We can get most of our needs met elsewhere, but prepared meals are always nice."
"Lots of our people pay well for foreign food."
"Stone and metal toys are a favorite of young zebas."
"And glass instruments are all the rage in our capitol right now."
"Of course, we know you will most likely focus on trade with your southern brothers while you still can, but we are more than happy to buy your excess at a fair price."

In your room with your three happy slaves. you can see their old paintings hanging up on the walls.

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432234

Missed it while moving home, sorry
Poke her side.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432235

Crunch [Knight] 432237

"I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Hopefully they won't start training while drunk though."

Switch [Pilgrim] 432238

"They didn't get shot. Your name is Fist."

What kind of slave is the other slave?

Look them over, are the other dogs alright?

And finally, Track some game: '1d10+3'

Roll #1 4 + 3 = 7

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432244

"I have a few dogs who can produce some of each, so I'm certain all of our futures will be very much covered in wealth. I'll make sure to note this down and have them ready for the next time you arrive. Is there anything else you'd like from us, or need of me?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432245

Ugh. Why does this place have to be filled with so many filthy dogs? Should have just gone to a pony settlement instead… and hope they don't kill me on sight.
Go find that cook.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432248

So uh
How do they look on the 'independence' front?

Koka [Chef] 432249

"Hopin' they will start combat when drunk!"
Laugh it up.

Crunch [Knight] 432252

"I'm not sure how much better that would be."

Campfire 432260

She pulls an empty sack out of your chest.
"Follow me, Master."
She leads you out of the fortress and across the ground covered in new Spring grass, then down the plug and into the new fortress's stone working level. Once there leads leads you to the southern end of a hallway and into a gemcutter's workshop. The bitch working there looks up.

You are in your bed snuggled up against Spring Green who is snuggled up against her colt.

"Thank you, mam."
The other slave is a buffalo calf, just as large as a pony but too young to work in the fields. He's shivering. the dogs are all mostly alright, except for the owner of the dead goat who is crying his eyes out. On the ground you can see some rabbit tracks.

"We would like to buy as much golden salve as you are willing to spare us."
"A diamond dog we spoke with said you all have nearly two dozen vials ready to sell, and that you have been waiting for the perfect moment to show them off."

They've made some large improvements. The zebra and the mare have taken to signing their names on the art they make, and you aren't focus in the most recent of each of their works.

Koka [Chef] 432263

"Lemme see what I can do to keep a dog up wid'a clear mind…"
Get up and start walking towards the kitchen.
"Ah, thank'ya for passin' by!"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432266

"Cooka. You busy?"

Koka [Chef] 432269

"Nut'yet. Sup?"

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432271

Crunch [Knight] 432273

"Anytime, cookie."

Back to the carpentry shop.

Lorik [Doc dog] 432275

"I need meat-replacements."

Switch [Pilgrim] 432276

I thought I got the slaves from the communal pen and that most of my dogs were using melee weapons. Ah, well.

Indicate the sobbing dog. "What's your name? Take your goat home. The rest of you, with me. The hunt is not over."

Track '1d10+3'

Roll #1 3 + 3 = 6

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432279

"Well, I couldn't earn my keep if I didn't haggle for them. I'll sell what I can, since I don't want to find out that another dog needed them for some other project. I'll sell it to both of you as a package, you can decide how to split it afterwards. How about…"

Try to get a good deal for them. Negotiator and Bookkeeper bonuses apply, correct?

Roll #1 6 = 6

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432281

I smile with glee at their progress.
"So, what do the three of you want to do now? Finish up your day off?"

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432285

Wake her up by cuddling her tight.
"Wake up sleepy head, does pony sleep well?" I nuzzle her neck.

Campfire 432302

She cocks her head to the side and Memory speaks, her headdress flashing and sparkling as she does.
"We are here to collect some gems, miss Gemcarver. Small, cut ones. you are supposed to give them to us."
She diamond dog nods her head and starts sweeping all the cut gems that are too small or irregular to make good decoration into the sack Memory gives her. When she is done she gives your zebra back the sack.
"Thank you again, miss diamond dog. I am honored to help yoou help the fortress, as always. Come along, Master."
Memory turns and walks out of the gemmcutter's shop.

You are back.
"What'd she want?"

They were using melee weapons? I could have sworn I gave them melee weapons.
He sobs something and cradles the goat carcass in his arms as he leaves. The rest of you follow the tracks and find a few lived-in looking rabbit holes.

They agree to most of your prices without much haggling.
"It's been a pleasure doing business with you. Is there anything else you would like to speak to us about?"

They each nod their heads.
"Yes, Master."
"Unless there is something we need to do."

She yawns and nods.
"Yes, Master. I slept very well."

Switch [Pilgrim] 432310

Start pluckin' rabbits. Order them to, as well.

'1d10+2' Trick shot into the hole.

Roll #1 4 + 2 = 6

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432313

I was doing something. I think. Working, probably.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432315

I shake my head.
"No, there's nothing any of you need to do today. Enjoy your day off."
I smile and depart back to my forge.
I've exhausted the supply of steel, right?

Koka [Chef] 432318

Motion him to follow me.
"What for?"

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432319

Follow her.
Where does she lead.
"White were?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432320

"For the purpose of planning things, from what towns do the caravans usually come from? I'd like to know so we can schedule what goods to make when."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432322

"… I'm suddenly allergic to meat."

Crunch [Knight] 432323

"She'll take whatever. She wasn't picky about the material."

Koka [Chef] 432328

Look at him strange.
"Dat's just wroooong!
Yer a dog!"
Start rummaging through the supplies.

Do we have beans?

Lorik [Doc dog] 432336

"Medical issue. Can't help it."

Koka [Chef] 432338

"Werr den.
Lemme see. Ya like beans?"

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432339

"That is good to hear." I bite her ears lightly before getting up on bed. Find some food in my place to get things right.

Lorik [Doc dog] 432344

"They will do."

Koka [Chef] 432350

"Whad'about… A bean steak? Ah'm gonna make it taste like da real deal!"
Offer him a big grin.

Campfire 432353

There are too many things to write down with this quest and I always seem to write down the stuff that never gets brought back up. Oh well.
The diamond dogs and slaves do as well.

Yup. Gotta carve those gems. Gem is with you, helping.

They each wish you a good day and leave the room. After getting to the forging level you spot the smiths unloading bars and instruments made of iron.
"Hello, Molcoh."
"How'd you like you're taste of steel?"

She leads you down to the level you fainted in. You two are the only ones down here.
"White what?"

The unicorn speaks first.
"Cloudtouch. It's a pegasus town the touches a small hill. They export mostly rainbow juice, rainbow dye, and cloud fluff."
The zebra speaks.
"We come from the donkey town of Lookpillage to the south and west. It's a long journy, nearly month."

You eat all but one portion of that barrel of food you found."

Roll #1 2, 1, 5, 2, 7, 8, 5, 3, 5, 8 = 46

Koka [Chef] 432358

Do we have beans?

Lorik [Doc dog] 432359

"If it has no meat in it, my stomach should take it."

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432363

Fun. No longer there."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432365

Good girl. Though, I suppose I've got time for a break. I'll take Luster and Spinel and check on Copper on Quartz.
"I'm leaving the shop to you for a moment, Gem. The only ones who are to take carved gems are the merchants. Uncarved gems don't leave the shop."

Koka [Chef] 432367

Dat's gonna gib you da same kind'o stuff meat does.
Gonna work on it, alright?
Ah'll show up to yer door, dun' worry."

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432369

"Thank you. This will be helpful in planning out our production cycles. If there is nothing else, I'd like to thank you for your time and pray for the continuous success of all of us."

Campfire 432370

You fire a poison bolt down a hole and pull out a rabbit. The other diamond dogs and slaves manage to bludgeon to death eight rabbits from three holes while sixteen rabbits escape from four holes. The diamond dogs stick their arms down three holes and prevent any rabbits from getting out of them.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432373

"An excellent material. Bit difficult at first to work with… but the results are more than, erm, worth it."
I look at the iron they're unloading.
"So are we able to smelt some of our own now? Do we have a flux?"

Crunch [Knight] 432374

Koka [Chef] 432377

Then off I go! Grab a handful of beans, even two, and start thinkering with it.
Cook them in all the ways I can.
I need to make them taste as close as meat as I can, without putting meat in it!
I had forgot about the CM!

Roll #1 10 + 3 = 13

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432378

Mmm thats nice.
I then look at Spring and smile.
"Is Green feeling well? Bark will leave her for a moment to check on Overseer for what tasks needed to be done."

"Thank you, cook. My stomach is grateful."

Any potential patients around the fort that I can steal from the other doctor?

Roll #1 5 = 5

Campfire 432394

"Oh. That was snow. It all melted when it got warm outside. It will be back next year."
She starts pick up chunks of rough gems and putting them in her bag.
"Help me out, would you?"

"Yes, Master."
Both Sppinel and Luster have been learning slowly but steadily under the tutelage of the diamond dogs who share their crafts.
Quartz is about to move up from Dabbling to Novice, and Copper is halfway through novice.

"It has been an absolute pleasure doing business with you."
"Now if you will excuse us, we must retire."
They each drink half the golden salve in the vial before returning to their wagons.

"Oh, we've got tons of flux. The first two or three layers of stone are nothing but limestone."

"Excellent. Wooden chairs and stone tables. Want to make your targets now?"

With a few tips from a gryphon guarding the food stockpile you are quickly able to make several different fake meat items out of beans. You've got steaks, sausages, roasts, and stews that could fool a lion.

"I am feeling fine, Master. thank you for asking."

There's a dog suffering from the hiccups, but that's it.

Get to work on them.

Roll #1 5 = 5

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432397

Start putting them.
"This not steal, yes?
Kopaz not thief."

Koka [Chef] 432404

Laugh maniacally to myself as I instruct the others about the fake meat and how to make it.
What's the griffon's name? I like this guy!
Gotta remember to put something special in his grub.
Now, make an essicated salami out of beans and bring it to Lorik!

Roll #1 7 + 3 = 10

Lorik [Doc dog] 432405

To hell with everything!
Angrily head back to my room.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432406

Pat her head and her colts head before heading to the Overseer.
"Done work on making rooms for dogs." I smile at him.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432408

I'll nod approvingly.
"Good. Good."
How old's Luster now? Almost ready to start learning a craft?

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432416

"The pleasure is all mine."
See them out, then go back to my room and put the fancy clothes away. I want to go check on the farmers.

Campfire 432426

You find a few thick logs and cut them into things about as tall as a diamond dog's chest, then affix them to wooden tripods so they will stay standing when hit. Simple, but they should work.

She laughs.
"Nonono, Master. It is good for you to worry about that, but this is fine. If these gems were going anywhere they would have been taken by now. It's common sense."

That's Gryphon, one of Crunch's gryphons. He eats mice and such that try to get into the food stores, and, rumor has it, cats that hunt on his turf.

You storm back to your empty room, the sounds of life fading away when you close your door.

"Very good, Chip. We still have to dig out a layer for the farmers, a small layer above that to irrigate the fields, a layer for woodworkers, and a layer for the seamsters and seamstresses. Once all of that is done we can build a grave level and start the hunt for lava in earnest.:

He spoke his first words yesterday. Gem says that he will be ready to start work within the month.

Your fancy clothes are off, replaced by some clothing you don't mind getting dirty. Quill looks up from the bed.
"Does Mistress wish me to accompany her?"

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432429

Campfire 432431

You storm back to your empty room, the sounds of life fading away when you close your door.

Koka [Chef] 432433

How sad.
At least at night there's Cook I can talk with.
Back out slowly. Let's see if Lorik is in his room, then.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432444

Time to hunt down Lorik, then.

Lorik [Doc dog] 432448

I'm in my room, being angry at the world.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432450

"Of course. The farmers are a lot I spent most of my early days helping, so you'll be seeing them often. You will probably find yourself checking up on them when we get busy, so now is the best time to get to know them."

Koka [Chef] 432455

"Ah brought'ya sumething!"

Campfire 432456

"Good. Wander around down here and find us what you can. I can use them to decorate our room and buy things from the traders next time they visit."

You find Lorik in his room being angry.

You find a runt bitch watching Lorik being angry.

He nods.
"Yes, Mistress."
He holds your door open for you once you finish dressing.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432458

And it seems I'm interrupting.

Koka [Chef] 432461

Wave at him.
"Hay der!"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432462

I'll turn to Lorik.
"My, aren't you the popular one today."

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432464

Wander around and find!

Roll #1 2 = 2

Lorik [Doc dog] 432465

I stand up
"… Already?"

Crunch [Knight] 432466

Nod and take the batch down to the barracks.
"Look alive, pups! New customers waiting for some hospitality!"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432469

"So are we ready to start making steel then?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432471

I grumble
"Someone you need healed, Pom?"

Koka [Chef] 432472

Nod firmly.
"Got plenty more ready. Tis' just a taste."
Hold up the salami for him.
"Ya can slice it up an' eat it wheneva ya want."

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432473

"I hope your ready to get your talons dirty. It's been a while since I've had to work the fields, so I probably forgot most of it. But the open air might be good for both of us."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432474

"No. I'm here to discuss planning for Luster's lessons. He'll be nearly ready to begin by the end of the month, so I wanted you, the dog I plan of having him learn from, to have plenty of warning. But if you're busy, we can talk shop later."

Campfire 432476

You wander around the dark, quiet, empty place for a while and cannot find anything.

They all cheer when you bring in the training dummies.
"They're great, Boss!"
"No wasted effort this time either."
"Want to train with us?"

"Some. I'd say we've got seven bars worth in all this."
"Three bars are already waiting for you."

"I will do whatever you ask of me, Mistress."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432478

"Who's Chip?" I scratch my head.

"Anyway, Bark will get to it." I nod at this and head to the farms. Perhaps ask around what digging needs to be done to the farmers.

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432479

Frown and go back empty pawed.

"Why not? Been a while since I hit something."
Rolling for training.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Lorik [Doc dog] 432482

Grab it, inspect it and sniff it.
"It smells good, cooka. How hard is it to make?"

"I can multitask. Continue."

Koka [Chef] 432487

"Well, Ah'm good, ya know~"
Grin in pride at him.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432490

"Let's introduce you to the farmer chief. Both of us will be receiving lots of orders and requests from him in the future, so try to play nice."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432495

"I expect him to be taught to the full extent of your medical knowledge, including the non-magical methods."
I'll nod slightly.
"And her slave isn't half bad either."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432501

"Looks like. Thank you. This will save a lot of pain."

"Don't say that word in my room, Pom. I will teach the pony. Which race is he? Unicorn?"

Koka [Chef] 432505

Well, time to leave, he looks busy!

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432507

I'll roll my eyes, and gesture to Luster.
"Of course he's a unicorn, and it's a pity you don't recognize him. Do you honestly think I'd try and have you teach magical methods to, say, a donkey or an earth pony?"

Campfire 432513

There are no farmers down here, but there is a dog working to smooth the walls that have already been dug out.
"Are you here to help out? I need you to dig the south alway long enough to fit five standard sized workshope with a diving wall between each of them, a farming area as long and as wide as the hall, and a small stockpile for seeds to the north of the farm field. Got that?"

You hack and slash at the dummies with the rest of your squad, and you can tell that they are glad to finally be training with their leader. After a few hours the training weapon you were using is looking frayed and splintered, and you are just as tired as the others.
"Time for a break, boss?"

"Of course, Mistress."
He shuts the door behind the two of you.
"I am ready to leave when you are."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432520

I grin.
"Wonderful. I'll get to using them right away."
I take them back to my forge.
There still are outstanding orders for armor, right?

Crunch [Knight] 432522

"I'd say. At this rate, weapons will be next, huh?"

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432524

I scratch my head.
"You want Bark to dig an underground farm? Are we making mushrooms?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432525

"Let's go. A dog needs to dig, and I for one appreciate not having the roof cave in on me in case anything happens."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432527

"I remember him. He has gemmy eyes. And yes, you can teach magic to non-unicorns. But unicorns are better at it. It's also easier."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432544

"But, yes, back to the point. He'll be ready to learn next month. And I do want him to learn everything, in an unbiased manner. Your opinions of the other doctor are well known, but in the even something happens to his horn, I want him to still be able to heal."

Campfire 432555

Any sort of armor other than shield and helms, yes. There are also orders for billon figurines and toys hammered to a wooden plank on the wall over three bins full of billon bars.

"Hmm? Oh, we only practice with these. It's all fun and games until somedog gets his leg mangled or his paw cut off."

He laughs.
"No, our plants are hardy things. All they need to grow is a bit of muddy rock. Speaking of muddy rock, there is going to be a small later above the farms for the bucket brigade that will irrigate these fields. I've still not been told if we are replacing the ceiling with metal grates or if there will be stone walkways for them instead."

"I know what you mean, Mistress."
He follows you up and out of the dirt fortress and up to the farms above the fortress. You can see some diamond dogs with with copper blades cutting down tall, segmented, wooden stalks. There are also a few buffalo helping to dig up potatoes while the gryphon watches closely as a diamond dog tends to a bee stung buffalo's nose.

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432559

Lorik [Doc dog] 432562

"Of course of course, fine. As long as that drooling imbecile of a doctor isn't involved."

Campfire 432563

She frowns when she sees you come back empty pawed.
"Did you not find anything or did you forget what you were doing?"

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432571

Shake my head.
"Nothing. No find."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432572

"So long as your teaching remains unbiased, he won't be involved at all. But if I have reason to believe you are neglecting certain areas, then I will be forced to supplement his education."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432573

Maybe I'll get started on some billion toys then.
Give it a try! Gonna try and make five.

Roll #1 10 = 10

Lorik [Doc dog] 432575

I wave a paw dismissively
"I will teach him both, stop mewling."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432579

I'll frown at him.
"Your 'assistants' might be better suited for teaching him bedside manner. Now, as for the matter of payment."

Campfire 432581

"Oh well. This was a good day."
She gives you the bag of gems.
"Carry these for me, Master? You are oh so much stronger than I am. I cannot waste my energy carrying things if I am supposed to follow you around and help you to remember."

You make five very intricate billon toys, complete with moveable parts. Each of the figurines is very lifelife in their looks.

Lorik [Doc dog] 432587

"You know where my interests lie."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432588

"Alright Bark will start digging."

Start making the workshops first.

Roll #1 3 = 3

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432593

"You are already promised the first of whatever your stallion may spawn if my mares pick him to scratch their itch. I could offer you a further discount on the next three, but I can't just give them to you."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432595

"That will work just fine."

Crunch [Knight] 432601

"Oh yeah. Just make sure not to go through them too fast, eh?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432605

I'll nod.
"Then Luster will be seeing you next month for his lessons. Spinel will be escorting him. We'll get the contracts in writing at a later time."
Nodding to Koka, I'll depart towards the training fields. Maybe Poet's there.

Koka [Chef] 432619

I've left long time ago.

Campfire 432620

After you get started you realize that maybe your should have had a bit more for breakfast this morning. Your stomach growls and its all you can do to focus and not make a room to long or wide.

"Of course, Boss."
He turns to the others.
"Break time, boys. Half an hour in the dining hall."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432623

Well, bother.

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432631

Put it on her back.
"No. Slave carry."

Crunch [Knight] 432635

Well I had a sandwich, so let's go see what Hunter is up to.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432638

Another 5?

Roll #1 6 = 6

Campfire 432644

You peak into the barracks and see Crunch wrapping up a training session with his dogs. Maybe Poet is out shooting trees like she was last time?

"Didn't you say you were going to carry it back up, Master?"
Her headdress catches light from a source you cannot see and sparkles in the darkness.

He's still guarding his barrels.
"Hello, Master."

You make another five, but your fingers are worn out. You settle on making simpler toy weapons instead.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432648

Actually, there's something else I can do here.
I'll call one of the militia dogs over.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432653

Perhaps approach the dog from before.
"You got anything for Bark to eat? Bark forgot to take breakfast." I grin at him.

Crunch [Knight] 432655

"I've been meaning to ask, what have you been doing for lodging?"

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432656

Roll #1 2 = 2

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432663

Just breathe in the air for a bit and take in all the scents.
"Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've had a chance to come up. Just seeing if you need anything or just need a paw to help out up here. Oh, and don't forget Quill here is eager to help out."

Campfire 432682

One of them sets down his training sword and walks over.

He rolls his eyes.
"No. Go get some food before you mess something up. Be quick, okay? Prophesy wants the fortress moved before next winter and we can't do that if we have no food source."

"We sleep here in the baracks, hotbunking with Swtich's squad."
He gestures to ten beds along the wall. A few of them have sleeping dogs in them.

You did tell her you were going to carry the bag, you remember it now.

The head farmer stands up from her weeding and pops her back.
"Hey Aidi, hey Quill. Want to go help us pick the strawberries? Eat a few if you want, just make sure most of them end up in the basket."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432684

Go to the kitchen in the fort and see what I can scrounge.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432688

"Who would I see about teaching my earth pony to fight?"

Crunch [Knight] 432689

just for clarification, that was my slave, right?

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432690

Why, though?
I remember Kopaz being a stupid dog.
"Kopaz change mind."
Slap her ass to urge her to go.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432692

"Can't promise too much about the ones getting into the basket. You guys grow 'em mighty tasty."

Quill and I help out.

Roll #1 7, 4 = 11

Campfire 432696

You find a delicious looking steak sitting next to a bowl of meaty stew.

"You'd want Aidi or Switch for that. Maybe another dog that has slave training experince could help too, but I don't know of any."

Of course Kopaz never agreed to it, but he failed the roll to resist his magical zebra.

Your deft fingers pluck strawberry after strawberry, but Quill's claws keep puncturing the berries.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432702

Is that safe to eat? I mean does anyone own it?
Anyway eat it.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432704

I'll nod.
"Thanks anyway."
And with that, I'll head off to the archery range to see if Poet's there.

Lorik [Doc dog] 432710

Try out this salami the cook gave me.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432712

Stop picking for a bit and observe Quill.
"Try just using your claws right above where it holds on to the plant."

Let see how he does now.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Crunch [Knight] 432713

"Ah. Good to know you aren't just sleeping in here."

Campfire 432727

It's the tenderest, most juicy meat you've ever eaten. You wash it down with some warm booze.

You follow the twang of bowstrings and see Poet practicing with a few other dogs. One of her ears perks up as you walk towards them and she looks back at you, smiling.
"Hey Pom, come to watch me work?"

It is the best thing you have ever eaten. The false flesh melts in your mouth and reminds you of the fresh meat served by the hunters in your old fortress when you were a pup.

"Thank you, Mistress."
Once he starts plucking at the stems instead of berries he does an even better job than you were doing. However, he doesn't eat any of them.

He looks a little offended.
"I would never sleep on the job, Master."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432734

"For a bit, yes. You did sound rather proud of yourself, so I figured I should watch and see for myself."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432735

Lets get back to work and do that room thingy.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432736

"I'm the one in charge of all the slaves, but it never occurred to me to ask if griffons still eat seeds and plants like other birds. Or do you just not like the sweet ones?"
Say the last part with a big smile.

Lorik [Doc dog] 432740

… Okay I'm going to need a lie down to enjoy this to the fullest.

Crunch [Knight] 432745

"Never crossed my mind. But you did need a bed somewhere."

Nopony 432761

Carry the bag then

Kopaz 432765

Campfire 432768

A few of the dogs with her wolfwhistle, and one makes a crack about your size. She rolls her eyes.
"Very funny, guys and girls. Let's get back to it. Pom, find a place to sit that isn't in front of us while you watch."
The five of them start to fire their bows and crossbows at a line of trees about thirty paces away.

Talk to me over steam if this is bothering you and we can figure it out.
She leads you back to your room.

With your stomach full you make quick work of the remaining four workshoop rooms.

"We are omnivores, just like goats and diamond dogs, Mistress. We eat what we are given."

You lie down on your bed with your meat firmly in paw.

"I sleep in the slave quarters, Master."

Kopaz 432776

Put it down once we are there.
Count gem?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432777

It's not how big a dog is, it's what he does with what he has that makes him better.
And I'll pick a nice little outcropping off to the side. Spinel and Luster can sit with me and watch.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432787

"I forgot goats could eat meat too. It'll be a hassle if I have to keep sending you to get some chow every time we have to eat, so I'll probably be sharing a bit of what I have. Here, why don't you try a strawberry or two. Maybe you'll like them."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432791

I'll be on stand-by for now.

Campfire 432797

She nods her head.
"Count gem. I will get us some food and drink."
She leaves room and shuts the door behind her.

The three of you sit back and watch them practice, you perhaps watching one of them more than the others. Poet is good. Most of her arrows all land in one clump on her tree with only a few outliers and a couple of misses. Her skill compared tothe other four is about average.

"If Mistress wishes to I will not object."
He picks up a berry slowly, as if unsure he should be doing this, but his face lights up once he bites into it.
"This is very good, Mistress. Do you eat like this all the time?"

Noted. Thanks for playing.

Crunch [Knight] 432802

"Of course. How have you been doing anyway?"

Kopaz 432815

Wait for the food and drink.

Campfire 432817

"Very good, Master. Between the cats and I the number of pests here has gone down so much that I have started to need to get slave mush from the kitchens."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432825

But there's always room for improvement. Still, impressive shots.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432830

"Don't get too used to it. It takes a while to grow. Help me help the farmers get what they need, and you might find some very grateful dogs giving you enough of them to eat for days."

Carry on working the fields.
Gotta step out of the game for today, thanks for running.

Crunch [Knight] 432840

"Very good. If you're running them out I might need to expand your posting."

Campfire 432846

A few minutes later you hear a thump outside your door and it opens.
"Master, can you help me with all these barrels before another diamond dog takes them?"
She rolls a barrel of what smells like sweetpod rum into your room with her nose.

They keep on shooting, this time trying to land shots in eachother's clusters.

Both of you continue working, Quill no longer caring about getting his claws and feathers dirty.
Thanks for playing.

"Thank you, Master."

Roll #1 10, 2, 6, 7, 9 = 34

Campfire 432855

One of the dogs shows off by landing a shot in every single cluster. He and two others manage to show up Poet, but another diamond dog almost misses the tree he was aiming at. The four of them share a good laugh at his expense as they all set down their weapons and stretch.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432861

"You're a fair shot, Poet."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432871

Alright lets do the fields.

Roll #1 3 = 3

Kopaz 432874

"Why dog take?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432877

So I have 10 figurines now?
I guess I go deliver these to the trade depot to be traded off.

Campfire 432883

She huffs at you.
"A fair shot? That's all, just fair?"

It's slow going as you have to stop and check you aren't going to far while digging at first, but after an hour you get the hang of it and are able to finish the rest of the farm room.
"Good work. Now the seed room and I think you're done for the day."

"Because it's food and drink sitting in the middle of the hallway. Both of us would do exactly the same, Master. There's some fresh meat for you in one of them, Master. Still nice and juicy."

Yep, you made two sets of five. At the trade depot you can find ponies and zebras starting to pack p their wares.
"What can we do for you, sir? Some food and drink? Maybe a nice vest?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432901

"I never was much for flattery, but you're better than at least half of the other dogs."
I'll shrug.
"Besides, having room to improve means that you'll never lack something to do. And besides…"
I'll scratch the side of my nose.
"You hit the mark when it counts."

Campfire 432903

She smiles down at you as a few of the dogs behind her roll their eyes.
"Good save, Pomelo."
"Poet, I'm guessing you're going to be spending the lunch break with your little brother?"
"Eat me, Stake."
The four of them laugh and leave, taking their weapons and ammunition with them.

Lorik [Doc dog] 432910

Alright, back in action.

Once I've recovered from my state of pure bliss, get out of bed. … Find my assistants and observe them.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432914

I nod at this.
Perhaps I'll recheck the farm but first lets do the seed room.
And make sure its well made, I dont want critters or insects spoiling our reserves in these parts.

Roll #1 10 = 10

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432916

"Erm… I'm assuming all your metals have been bought?"
Pom is the one to talk to about trading, right?

Switch [Pilgrim] 432920

Give it one last "harvest" before we're sure it's an empty warren.

Roll #1 2 = 2

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432924

I'll stand up and brush myself off.
"Well, then. Apparently those dogs haven't heard of good things coming in small packages."

Campfire 432925

You find them in a test shaft that was dug while searching for a way past the aquifer. Purple and Green are giving Banana advice while she tries to heal a wounded mouse.

You quickly dig out a room for the seeds. While digging you make sure to minimize the entrances into the room without disturbing the future workflow, and in addition to this you carve shelves into the walls for seed bags so they will not need to rest of the floor. The other diamond dog pokes his head into the room and looks at the shelves.
"Why is it always you dig dogs that come up with the simplest, smartest ideas? Anyways, good work. Enjoy the rest of the day."

"Bought for flasks of golden salve, yes. Clothing, food, drink, and cut gems are pretty much all we have left."

Roll #1 10, 3, 2 = 15 / Roll #2 9 = 9

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432926

"Uh… erm, some clothing and food then? Do you have any… clothing for ponies?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432927

Continue to observe the ponies… This is totally not creepy. Nope.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432928

I nod at this.
Perhaps I'll recheck the farm but first lets do the seed room.
And make sure its well made, I dont want critters or insects spoiling our reserves in these parts.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Campfire 432929

Some of the dogs manage to catch five rabbits that dart out of a hole, but you and the others fail to catch 11 more rabbits as the disappear into the brush. You now have thirteen dead rabbits and a bushwoolie.

Poet grins down at you.
"Maybe we'll find out the truth of that eventually. Anyways, lunch in the dining hall or out in the sun? I did a favor for a few of the farmers so they owe me some food."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432932

"It will do good to get some sunlight. Can't have us forget what daylight looks like, after all."

Campfire 432935

"An odd question for a diamond dog to ask of zebra and pony merchants, but we've done well enough today that we don't care. Bot of us have horseshoes, socks, saddle blankets, and saddles."

The seed room is perfectly made. You go into the farm room and start smothing the floor while carving small microchannels for water and roots to run through."

"Alright. Follow me."
She grabs her bow and quiver then leads you back to the fortress and the above ground farms. While she chats with the farmers a dog walks over to you.
"You a new farmer?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432938

I'll shake my head.
"Just here to keep Poet company."
I'll take a look at this dog. Was he here when I inspected Ard? I know I don't get out much, but still.

Crunch [Knight] 432944

"So has it been nothing but rodents lately?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432949

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432950

I clear my throat and cough a few times, trying to ignore any potential implications they're implying.
"Erm… are the socks comfy? For ponies, I mean. And… how much would this get me exactly?"

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432951

I didnt I am an able farmer, with seeds I can grow my own crops.

I grin at the work I made. Perhaps ask the farmer and show him the things that I have done.

Campfire 432959

You think so? You were paying more attention to Ard than the farmers, but he sort of looks familiar.
"Ah. You her brother or something?"

"Rodents, lizards, and a bushwoolie I threw in the dump. I hope you don't mind but I sold his knife to the smiths for some diamond dog food."

They talk and gossip a bit, trying to keep Banana happy as she accidentally fries way more mice than she saves.

"It really depends where you are. If you go outside a lot shoes are the way to go, but if you stay inside socks are much more comfortable."
"For all those figurines we could get you twenty four socks or twelve copper horseshoes."

He looks down at the ground.
"I'm just the miner in charge of making the walls here look nice, but if you say it will help I believe you. Very detailed, too. Ever try your hand and engraving walls?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432963

"Erm… never mind about that then. How much food can I get for these?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432964

Ugh… I can't stand this any longer.
Is there a library in this fortress? Or are there any caravans here?

Crunch [Knight] 432972

"Your kill, your spoils. I have no problem with it."

Campfire 432974

"Depends on what kind of fruit or vegetable you want, but anywhere between twenty and thirty five."

No library, but there are a zebra and a pony caravan in right now.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432976

"Uh… strawberries?"

Pony? PONY!?
Quick, go over there and try to find some books on pony culture/history/religion/etc.

Roll #1 6 = 6

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432986

"What makes you think that?"

Campfire 432989

"Thank you, Master. Ah, I do not mean to complain. But there are no nest boxes. Those are needed if you or the fortress plan on increasing the number of gryphons at your disposal without buying more."

"Wild strawberries? That's thirty barrels. Farm grown strawberries are twenty barrels."

"Books? Yeah, we've got a few that are written in common. What've you got to pay with?"

"She's not really the sort to settle down, so I just figured is all."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432991

"Engrave wall? Bark is not an artist, Bark is not sure if he can make dog face look like dog face on wall."

Crunch [Knight] 432992

"Hmm. Are you planning on…contributing?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432993

I scratch my head.
"Erm… I'm gonna go consult someone."
I leave and quickly go find Pom.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432995

"Is she not allowed to have friends, then? Why jump to assuming I'm her kin?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 433006

… Damn
"I have a sausage."

Campfire 433010

He shrugs.
"If you ever want to practice there's tons of space in the old mines. Anyways, now that you;re done here I'm done here."
He walks up the staircase.

"If Master does not mind. It is embarrassing to the other slaves grow in number while we, who can be the most valuable to the fortress, stay idle."

You find Pomelo talking to a dirty farmer dog and an archer bitch.

"What? No, I was only-"
"I've got the food Pom. You making friends?"

"A sausage? Well, maybe you can a zebra book with it."
"Or mooch off the dog that just left. He's got a bit of bargaining power."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433014

"Pom. Erm, you're the… you're the one to talk to about trading, right?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 433016

Who just left?

Switch [Pilgrim] 433023

Let's look for some big game to round it off, now.

Roll #1 3 + 3 = 6

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433024

I'll just wave dismissively to the farmer.
"Don't worry about it."
And to Poet.
"To a degree."
"Technically I believe Aidi was in charge of negotiations, but if you've been directed to me I can help in whatever way I'm able, I suppose. What's the problem?"

Crunch [Knight] 433026

I smile.
"You really think so, huh? Well then I'll go make some for you. Maybe with Sawdust in the shop I can get some pointers for you two."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433028

With that, go back to the Overseer and tell him that the farm designated to me is ready.for use and it only need is water, seeds and slaves or dogs to tend it.

Campfire 433036

I consider it an accomplishment that I've never made that mistake before.

Moloch, the Alpha's brother. He had some figurines with him.

You spot a deer grazing in the distance.

"Well, I'm ready when you are. I know a nice picnic spot."

"Of course I think so, Master. We can fly like pegasi, are strong like earth ponies, and can manipulate small objects like unicorns. We are the ideal slave. By my count you will need two, plus one more if you can find and talk to the owner of the last one."

"Great job. Once we get some of the confusion pushed aside I'll have you and a few others make the catwalk. You've got the day off, Bark, enjoy it."

Lorik [Doc dog] 433039

Ugh… more dogs to talk to? Why can't the world just die?
Track him down.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433042

"Oh, Aidi…"
I awkwardly cough.
"Erm, never mind… I'll just be going now."
And with that I back out and try not to further lose my spaghetti.

Roll #1 6 = 6

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433046

I'll just shrug.
"Wonder what that was about."
"And I'm ready. Let's go."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433052

Now what to do.
Perhaps check out the fortress, see if the traps that I made are in well order and in good condition. Is the drawbridge functioning? What parts of the fort needs more defenses.
Also how is the bushwooly situtation?

Roll #1 9 = 9

Campfire 433056

You follow him up to the above ground farms, but meet him halfway there as he walks back tothe depot.

You walk away before any can spill out of your vest. Halfway back to the trade depot you see Lorik.

"Alright. Are your slaves coming too?"

The drawbridge is functioning, but the walkway of death could use a few spike traps on it, and the ground below could use some more cage traps. The bushwoolies have some sort of magic that tricks the traps into letting them pass, but as of yet none have been able to make it this far without being seen and chased off or killed.

Campfire 433057

Oh, and your traps and the drawbridge are all fine.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433062

Oh, Lorik…
I don't think I can do anything with these now, so I'm just going to go and deposit them in my room.

Lorik [Doc dog] 433065

"You there. I need books. Books on ponies."

Crunch [Knight] 433066

"Right. I'll go ask about it then. Not used to having a slave ask about sex."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433069

"Huh? Books on ponies?… I don't have any books on ponies. Why do you want books on ponies?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 433073

"Because… Because… for my assistants. Yes. Books on pony culture, religion and… other things."

Campfire 433076

His feathers poof out a bit and he looks away.
"It's not-I didn't mnean-Well of course it sounds strange if you put it like that, Master. Thank you."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433077

"Your assistants?…"
I perk up.
"Why do you want them for your assistants?"

Switch [Pilgrim] 433078

Trick shot it myself. '1d10+2' If it misses, call for open fire.

Roll #1 6 + 2 = 8

Crunch [Knight] 433079

Well time to go find…whoever owns that other gryphon.

Lorik [Doc dog] 433080

"Uh… Because healing magic requires they have something to believe in. They need to know about pony gods. And they are interested in other pony things. Because they are ponies."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433084

I scratch my head.
"Well… I don't have any books. I'm sorry. I hope you do find something though."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433086

I'll think a moment.
"No, I suppose not. Spinel, you and Luster bring lunch to Gem and the others. I'll be checking in on them in a little while."
And then I'll follow Poet.

Lorik [Doc dog] 433089

"The pony caravan has books. You are the Alpha's brother, yes? You can get those books for me."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433092

Perhaps I will make some cage traps, but first go back to my workshop and see if I have the equipments, resources and tools to make them.

Also check out on Green.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433093

"O-… kay?"
I head back to the caravan.
"How much for the books?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 433097

"Thank you."

Campfire 433108

The bolt hits it and it dies a few seconds later as it tries to jump away.
"Great shot."

There are three female gryphons in the fortress. You own one, one is unclaimed, and one is the pet of an NPC.
You find him in the loom, working with his slave.
"Can I help you?"

"Yes, Master."
They leave. Poet leads you to a shallow pound surrounded by trees out of sight of the fortress entrance.
"What do you think?"

You have all the mechanisms you need and more than enough stone to make more mechanisms. There are currently six empty and unused cages in a stockpile waiting to be put to use. Gem is trying to teach her son to say Master, but not having much luck.

"We've got a history book, a book about our gods and goddesses, and a book about some of the latest fashion trends. All of those for three of your fancy toys."

Crunch [Knight] 433111

Huh. I might claim the other one then.
"Yes, can I speak to you outside?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433112

"Deal then."
I trade them the toys and take the books, and bring them back to Lorik.
"Here… do you mind if I read them when you are done?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 433114

"Of course not. Thank you. If you ever need medical aid or want one of your assistants trained in the medical arts, my door is open."

Switch [Pilgrim] 433115

"Collect it… Take it back to the kitchens to have it all cleaned. The one who made the best snowdog and the one who did the best job destroying it, you two are with me for a private hunt. Everyone else – slaves included – return."

Search for something uncommon or even rare in this area. Like crab, shrimp, wild potatoes, et cetera. Any clues of anything impressive?

Roll #1 7 + 3 = 10

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433123

Perhaps I got to leave them some stuffs to read. Now get some of the cages and put it on the cart and pu….

Why am I doing the pulling? Wait is Green busy teaching her son?

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433124

"It's a nice place. Quiet. Peaceful, even."
I'll take a deep breath of air.
"Relaxing. I should get out more."

Campfire 433130

"Uh, alright. Beak, keep working."
He stands up and walks out of the workshop.
"Something wrong, sir?"

"Pleasure. Some foal or collector is going to love these."

They nod and carry off the deer. You follow your instincts and eventually find a pond. The water is dark, however. and Inside is swimming a large, pale fish. A flash of pure terror grips your soul, you know not why, until you realize it is a blind thing washed up from some underground river. You easily grab it out of the water and skewer it on a bolt.

Green looks up.
"Did you need me, Master?"

"You really should. I don't think I'd ever seen you before the raid."
She spreads a blanket and sits down on it before unloading a bag full of potatoes, lettuce, strawberries, sugarcane, plump helmets, rock nut paste, and carrots.
"Sort of a pony meal, but it's good."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433131

And hat's it for me. I'm out. Thanks for running!

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433133

"I never really had a reason to get out of the shop unless there was a caravan, or if I needed something from the crafters."
I'll nod and join her for the meal.
"It's good to try new things every so often. It can give you a new perspective, or at least some ideas."

Lorik [Doc dog] 433134

Alright, back to my room… Read about pony religion. Make sure to hide the cover so no one sees if they walk in.

Campfire 433136

Goodnight. Thanks for playing.

Crunch [Knight] 433137

"Not really. I've just been informed that we might be able to increase our griff stable if we let them start mating. Do you know if yours is fertile?"

Switch [Pilgrim] 433139

Return to the fortress. Who is the finest gemcutter amongst all of them at our behest?

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433141

"Is Green busy? Perhaps we could install this cage trap first then we can resume what we need to…"

I drop the cart.
"Scrap that first. Bark really needs one more assistant."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433143

I look at Green,
"Pony said that gem polisher dog has a slave to sell right?"

Campfire 433151

The rock nut paste makes a good dip for everything but the strawberries and plump helmets which are fine on their own. Strawberry tosses you a canteen of some sort of alcohol.
"They say to eat the cane for dessert. It's got some sort of sugar in it."

You learn of the gods and goddess of the pony civilization, The Fame-Skirts of Stroking. There are multiple pony civilizations and it is impossible to tell from where your ponies came. Maybe the gods won't mind?

"I can teach him later if Master needs my help."

"He has many, yes. Shall we visit him?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 433157

Why do ponies have to be so gleeful all the time? Ugh… So fruity.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433158

I'll take a swig, and eyeball the sugar cane.
"If you say so."
Once I've finished up with my share of the other food, I'll give the sugar cane an experimental lick.

Campfire 433160

Pom Rainian, the runt, who is currently missing. Would you like to visit the second best?

Switch [Pilgrim] 433162

I'm a tracker. I track him down. But if he's busy, don't interrupt. '1d10+3'

Roll #1 3 + 3 = 6

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433164

I nod at Green and visit Pom along with her.

Campfire 433165

Surely that is not jealousy you are trying to bury?

It tastes sweet, surprisingly so. Poet takes a length out of the sack and holds it in a paw. After watching you try she gives it a few licks herself.
"Licking's alright, but I think you're supposed to suck the tip."
She slips one end into her mouth and starts to suck.
"Mmmmmmmm. De-ishus."

You stealthy follow some runt tracks. Peering through a few bushes you see him and a diamond dog bitch having a picnic together by a pond. They are both enjoying some sugarcane.

His workshop is empty.

Crunch [Knight] 433168

Campfire 433172

"I guess? Are you proposing some sort of mating deal, or is it first come first serve?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 433173

Of course not…
Bah. Read a bit of history instead.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433174

She's doing that on purpose. She has to be.
Well, I'll stick the cane into my mouth, and keep it there with my teeth. Maybe chew a little.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433180

"Hmmm… Gem dog is not here?" I look at Green.

"Is there any signs of commotion?

Campfire 433188

You learn of their wars, both offensive and defensive, with pretty much every species they could find. You also find a list of their princesses.

Are you sure she's really that sort of d-yeah you might just be right. Chewing on the sugarcane does a lot to bring out the flavor, but will you tell her or watch her enjoy her treat?

"Commotion, Master? Like a party?"

Switch [Pilgrim] 433189

Fiiiiiiiiine I'll go to #2

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433190

I'll let her enjoy herself for a while. It's not like she's going to start fellating the thing. This thing is pretty good…

Lorik [Doc dog] 433191

Wag my tail a little as I read.
None of them married and all of the childless? That's odd.

Switch [Pilgrim] 433192

And while I'm on my way to Gemcutter #2, I pick up a slave that isn't owned by anyone in particular at the slave pens if any matches that description. Preferably goat.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433193

"No not that? What Bark means is perhaps gem pony might get…'

I smart my eyes.

Campfire 433197

You go to see Boot, a diamond dog that became a master gemcutter overnight after being seized by a strange mood and carving one of the fortress's first artifacts: Proliferate Humility. He is hard at work in his shop cutting black gems.

She looks up to see if you are enjoying your sugarcane and catches you staring. She smiles around the stick before sliding several inches into her mouth, then slowly pulling it out. She starts to repeat this action, making sure to use her tongue and make a little noise every other thrust.

Alicorns are weird, bro, or maybe they are just stuck-up and snooty.

"Oh. I don't think that would happen, Master. Kidnapping a valuable slave like that can easily get a diamond dog sentenced to death."

Campfire 433198

You graba billy goat from the pins.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433200

And I'll bite clean through my piece of sugar cane. Can I catch the piece that broke off before it hits the ground? '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Lorik [Doc dog] 433201

Switch [Pilgrim] 433203

"I want a pawful of small gems. And in this time of food shortage, I intend to pay for it with this."

Hold out the cave fish.

"Rare cave fish. Delicious, and rare. The chances of seeing one of these and living to tell about it is low. Not because they're deadly, but because the caves are. Cook it or keep it for an ornament if you like."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433205

I gulp upon hearing this.
"Perhaps lets go back to the workshop and bother gem pony tommorow."
I carry her and hug her while going back to the workshop(pretending she is injured if other dogs pass by)

Campfire 433209

Nope, but you pick it up in less than five seconds and wipe most of the dirt off. Poet pulls the cane out of her mouth and smirks.
"Something wrong?"

You guess? Don't the stories say that all pony nations are ruled by wise and powerful alicorns?

"The food shortage ended a while ago, but that fish is still a good trade. What color and cut do you want?"

You carry her away, hugging her like a puppy hugging his teddy cavebear. When you get back to the populated area of the fortress you have to switch to cradling her until returning to your workshop/bedroom.

Lorik [Doc dog] 433210

Those must be even more magical than unicorns!
I let out a deep sigh, put the book away and close my eyes for some rest.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433211

Well, aren't I a bit hot under the collar now.
"No, nothing. You just seemed to… really enjoy that sugar cane."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433213

Hmmm stand there for a moment.
"Bark will visit Silver and check out on him. Green stay here and tend his colt aye?"

Gently put her down and go and find him.

Campfire 433215

Her smirk widens.
"You seemed to really enjoy watching."
She gives it a lick, then sets it down as her ears move in a way that tells you she's blushing.
"Sorry, Pom, old habits die hard."

You check the miner work schedule that somedog left in your workshop. It tells you that silver and the crew he works with got off for the day just a little while ago. Chances are you can find him either in his room or the dining hall.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433218

"It's… alright. I'm just not used to it. If I couldn't take a little teasing now and then, then I'd hardly be able to keep up with you."
I'll shrug.
"And I'm no stranger to old habits."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433219

Hmmm.. check out his room and see if he is there.

Crunch [Knight] 433220

soooo…what about the dog i was talking to?

Campfire 433225

You sleep, and dream.
You are a magnificent unicorn, frolicking in a unicorn town full of flowers and smart unicorns who all know that magic is the best medicine. You even know how to make things float and how to shoot magic bolts.

"You're habit aren't that bad. I didn't see you carving a potato."
She crunches the last of her sugar cane and lies down against a tree.
"Nice day."

You knock on his door and he opens it a few seconds later. He's got rock dust and pebbles in his fur and his vest is dusty.
"Hello, Bark. What brings you here?"

Campfire 433226

Crunch [Knight] 433227

"Well I've got two ready to go right now, and can make nest boxes as needed. Just though I'd check and see if you wanted an in."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433228

"You should have seen some of my first carvings. Hideous things, really. Took me weeks to stop eyeballing it and actually measure them properly."
I'll lay down next to her, so our heads are roughly level.
"It is."

Campfire 433229

"Hmm. A gryphon hatchling might be cute. It could help me out when we finally expand our clothing making operation. Send your male down here sometime with a note so I know who to expect when you finish that nest box."

"They can't have been that bad, Pom."
She yawns and stretches. One of her arms comes down over your shoulder.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433230

"Bark is thinking when will Silver and his pals dig for and make the artificial pool. Its so Bark can adjust his schedules."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433231

And here's the part I regret being short at. Oh well. I suppose my tail will idly wag a bit, and I'll relax a little further, though I'm not quite sure how I'll return the gesture.
"You'd have had to see them, really. All misshapen and they caught the light poorly. A tragic waste of…" I'll yawn. "Waste of gemstones. But I got better…"
Was the sun always this warm? A dog might just nod off…

Campfire 433232

"There are still a few levels left to dig out before we can start the waterworks. It will happen soon though, I hope. Anything else you wanted?"

Crunch [Knight] 433233

"I'll get you a box and get back to you then."

Campfire 433234

She yawns and squeeze you a bit with her arm.
"I'm sure nothing you carved could be a complete waste."
You feel your head nod a few times as the warmth and good food starts getting to you, but you're a tough-and then she starts to gently scratch your ears. You fall asleep.

"I'll be here. Thanks."
He goes back inside.

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 433235

"Ah Bark sees, just tell Bark when its needed and he will help." I grin at him.

I then whisper.
"Will the pool be used by dogs today? Bark might bring his pony there."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 433236

Alas, how unfortunate. But, sleep he shall.
And if you want it to end there for Pom tonight, that's fine.

Campfire 433237

"I'll find you, don't worry."

The two of you sleep side by side in the soft grass under the warm sun.

Campfire 433238
