Diamond Dog Fortress Campfire 429154[Last 50 Posts]

It has been about a month since the raiding party returned to the fortress and the food issue was confronted. Every diamond dog in the fortress is once again eating three hearty meals a day now that the farms are expanded and frequently fertilized. The excavation of the new fortress has been slowed down considerably by the amount of stone and rubble created by the miners. Even with several craftsdogs and masons working overtime the rough stones continue to pile up in stockpiles, rooms, and hallways.

>Boyar

A loud banging on the door of you office breaks the quiet that had surrounded you while looking over important papers and figures about the fortress's supplies.

>Everyone else

You know what you are doing, why have you stopped?

Boyar (Preacher) 429155

>>429154
"What is it? I'm very busy."

Koka [Chef] 429156

So, who were the carpenters?

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429157

>>429154
Dig!

Well, whatever I was doing.
Let's try making those collars.

You door swings open and Prophesy rushes in.
"Alpha, there's a goat coming. The hunters that saw her say they think she is a dignitary or diplomat of some sort. I've already given the orders that all slaves be ordered to the pins, their owners' rooms, or the workshops they work in; I hope you do not mind."

>>429156
>

>>429157
Down once again at the dining level, you dig out a fifth of the new dining hall on your own. The dogs working on the other parts have all stopped their work and are watching you, along with the slaves.

>>429158
You make a loop of leather, but the only way you can make it hold that shape is by sewing it together.

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429160

If I was there to make the order, then let me ask Crunch while he works a few questions.

>>429158
"Thank you for this. In the meantime, I was wondering if think you can use some of the slaves we have now for the militia? We have a number that go unused."

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429161

>>429159
Good for them, I'm too busy digging like a dig dog should!

Let's find Pick. Or really, the first one of them who can help me.

429163

>>429159
"Well that won't do. Any goat could just eat right through this crap. I must be out of practice.

>>429160
"Eh. Don't thank me until I have something to show for it. Anyway, at the moment I don't really know if they can be trusted until they're good and obedient. These ones weren't raised as slaves."

Roll #1 9 = 9

Boyar (Preacher) 429164

>>429159
"Good thinking, Prophecy."

Let's go welcome the visitor.

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429165

>>429163
"Eh, I meant we had a lot of slaves that are already trained. I've bought a lot of slaves from the previous caravans, and some are just collecting dust. I'll see if Quill can bring the list of the available ones."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429166

Well, how close are we to having secured living space in the underground?
And I suppose I should be continuing Gem's lessons, as well as Copper's and Quartz's.

Crunch [Knight] 429167

>>429165
"Well we did spend a lot of time buying them in bulk and handing them out. How many do we have in the mines?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429168

I was in the middle of giving my assistants further instruction and lessons, right?
How are they progressing?

Campfire 429169

>>429160
You are wherever you want to be. We did a timeskip.

>>429161
You start to dig out another fifth, but Memory slows you down and directs you pawscoop by pawscoop for a few minutes. It isn't until you step back that you realize she was helping you to dig pillars.

>>429162
Pearl, Fence, Pick, and a female slavegryphon are all working in one large carpentry workshop. They gryphon stands and bows as you enter.
"How may I help you, mam?"

>>429163
You send a slave on his way back to the pins to fetch you a few items, and soon you have several small pieces of bone, stone, and thrown away metal. With these you start making hooks that be sewn onto one end of a collar and threaded through a loop on the other end. The idea of clasps occurs to you, but you would need the help of a metalworker for that.

>>429164
Prophesy follows you, and grabs the two diamond dogs wearing the most impressive armor from the barracks to come with the two of you. The four of you encounter her at the top of the hole left by the aquifer plug. She is tall enough to have to look down a little to meet your gaze.
"Greets, noble diamond dog. We have much to discuss."

>>429166
Closer. Work has slowed to a crawl because there is too much loose rock and no where to put it. Gem, Copper, and Quartz sit in front of your workstation, watching you attentively.

>>429168
Brown and Earth still have a little more to learn, but you think Zebra has a good grasp on how to craft metal items, armor, and weapons.

Koka [Chef] 429170

>>429169
"Ah need'n order of seat'n tables f'a shop."

Boyar (Preacher) 429171

>>429169
"I'm happy to speak to you, emissary."

Let's go to the main dining hall or whatever and talk.

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429172

>>429169
Pat her head.
"Clever slave."
Don't stop though

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429173

>>429169
First will be Gem's lessons on carving. Then I'll take Copper to the smiths so she can learn the basics of metalcraft, and Quartz to the stonecrafters so he can learn the basics of that.
So, first, Gem's moving on to harder lessons. Let's see if I can't provide a good enough example. '1d10+4' to carve, '1d10' to properly teach the method.

Roll #1 8 + 4 = 12 / Roll #2 10 = 10

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429174

>>429169
I smile proudly at the three of them.
"Zebra, would you mind supervising Brown and Earth while I go and see what new orders have been given for us to make?"

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429175

>>429169
"Oh, while Quill gets the list, how have your gryphons been doing, Crunch?"

Crunch [Knight] 429176

>>429169
It's a start. Now we just need a few score more of these things. Plus clasps, of course.

>>429175
"Well enough that they can both work unsupervised, though the female still works under the craftsdogs of course. We'll probably need more of these."
Hold up the mark two collar.

Campfire 429177

>>429170
"Very good. How many, mam?"

>>429171
Prophesy barks something at a passing dog in Diamond tongue and he runs off ahead of your group. When the four of you arrive all of the dishes have been removed from the tables, and all of the crumbs and spills have vanished. The two militia dogs stand guard at the entrance to the dining hall. She looks around the room.
"I had thought your fortress would be larger than this."

>>429172
You dig out another chunk of the dining hall, but your work is getting slower. Could you be getting tired already?'

>>429173
As soon as you start to teach Gem she levitates a rough gem off you desk and, in a flash of magical light, sets down a perfectly carved Gem.
"Thank you, Teacher, but I think the others need you help more."
Gem is at a skill level where she can no longer be given bonuses by being taught or watching demonstrations. You may use those rolls on either Copper or Quartz.

>>429174
He nods.
"Will you be giving them a lesson first, Master? You know much more than I do still, even if I know how to make things without injuring myself often."

>>429176
You will need to roll to make more.

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429178

>>429177
Or just thristy.
"Slave, bring drink!"
Keep on digging, this hall needs to be finished!

Boyar (Preacher) 429179

"We're currently in the process of expanding."

Have some dogs bring out a few vegetarian dishes for the goat.

"So what brings you to our humble fortress, madam?"

Koka [Chef] 429180

>>429177
"Thir…"
Uh.
Start sketching on the floor.
"So, tweeen-ty lil chairs, five roun' table, one loooon' and thin table with ten tall chairz!
Oh, and two moar fer me behind the table!"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429181

>>429177
Well, bother.
"Hmm. Yes. Keep practicing, then."
And I'll head off to the smiths first. And then use those rolls to teach Copper the basics. But I'd only get a +1 on that first one, due to the amulet.

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429182

>>429177
"What could be taking Quill so long with that list? I'd better go check on him in case something happened. But it's good to hear that th"ey are doing well. Let me know if you need anything for them."

429183

>>429177
Well I didn't mean to, but if I did it once I suppose I can do it again. Do we have a shop for these things?

Roll #1 2 = 2

Because I'm waiting for Hammer to prove himself, this was mentioned the last time I was here.

"Thank you, Quill. Here you go Crunch:
http://mlpg.co/qt/res/124730+50.html#125092 .
The Farmer's have asked for a gryphon and a unicorn, so those are marked off for the moment."

429186

>>429185
"Huh. Unicorns are useful anywhere, but why would they want a gryphon? Seems counterintuitive. I can't see those talons of theirs being too good for tilling. What about the buffalo? They're pretty much made for hard labor, can't we just send them all to the mines?"

Roll #1 4 = 4

Campfire 429187

>>429178
"Yes, Master."
Her headdress sparkles in the light of the room's torches as she turns and walks away. The next thing you know you are on your back and waking up, surrounded by diamond dogs.
"Is he okay?"
"What happened?"
"Is he still passed out?"

>>429179
"Business and rumors. The merchants carry many crafts, well carved and covered in gems, to us, and they also carry news. I have heard that you are working towards founding a new nation of your kind in these jungles. Am I correct?"

>>429180
She pulls a clay tablet out from under her wing and scratches your order into it.
"Very well, mam. The wait for this will be long, but they should be ready by the time the new fortress is ready to be moved into. I assume that is what it is for, mam?"

>>429182
Can you remind me what Quill was doing?
A diamond dog pokes his head into the room.
"Miss Aidi, two caravans coming: goat and donkey. Remember that the donkeys hate things made of wood and will leave if you try to barter with any."

>>429183
There is a leatherworking shop. I had assumed you were there."

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429188

>>429187
Blink and look around.
"What?"

Koka [Chef] 429189

>>429187
"Yarr! That be the place! Openin' new kind o' grub place!"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429190

>>429177

"I suppose I can stay and give them a quick lesson."
And with that… let's make…
Hm.
A breastplate, why not.

"Unicorn magic can be used to help the farms become more productive. A gryphon would be useful in catching any animals that try to eat our crops, and incidentally, get us more meat. As for the buffaloes. well, they're really, really nice and work well on the farms. Didn't you notice how everyone pla… worked with him for the raid?"

>>429187
"Duty calls, Crunch, I'll see you afterwards."

Let's go to my room and get properly dressed for the caravans and have Quill get the papers ready. Have to make a good first impression. And make sure to remind Quill to stay inside. I remember how the traders reacted to Crunch's Gryphons.

Campfire 429195

"You fell over all of a sudden."
"You were out for a few minutes."
You can hear the clipclop of hooves comming your way.
"Master, I hav-Where is he? What are you all looking at on the ground?"

>>429189
"It sounds delightful, mam. I appologize, but if you have no further orders I must return to my work."

>>429190
Your ponies are too busy shooting angry looks at Zebra for learning faster than them.

>>429191
Okay.

>>429192
You put on a rose silk vest, one of the first ones made in the fortress, and wait at the entrance to the tunnel that leads to the trading depot while dogs haul bins and loose items to the trade depot. A donkey and a goat meet you as their wagons are pulled into the tunnel.
"Hello, miss. Have a lot to trade this year?"

>>429184
>>429193

"Shall I keep trying, Master?"

Koka [Chef] 429197

>>429195
Shrug and be off.
Go find Cook again.
"How's it goin?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429198

>>429195
"Hey! Stop that right this instant. You have no right to be mad at zebra, either of you. You should both feel bad."
I frown at Earth and Brown.
"And if you want to catch up to zebra, then pay attention!"
I restart the lesson.

"So, Copper, as you can see, working with metal isn't too hard, but you need to have all the right safety measure in place. I would suggest using your magic to operate a little further from the flames, so you don't get burned in case something drops, or goes wrong. Because you can prepare for a thousand different things, and then the one you didn't prepare for will happen."

Kopaz [Dig Dog] 429200

Copper attempts to make something at the forges.

"Oh, Master! What happened? Here, drink this!"
She hands you a large mug full of water.

Your laughing does something, but it isn't inspiring. He tries again.
[1d10-1]

Surprised by the heat, copper drops a length of metal as she pulls it from a furnace. Luckily, no one is injured.
"Sorry, Master, Shall I try again?"

Hammer, determined not to make the same mistake again, leaves the bar of copper in far too long. It droops as he pulls it out and, before you can stop him, he strikes it with a hammer. Liquid metal splashes in all direction, but luckily Hammer's face is there to shield you and the pegasus slave. He gives on short, high pitched shriek then collapses as the smell of burning flesh and hair fills the room.

>>429207
"Of course."
Inside are barrels containing bolts of cloth and silk, and barrels containing large pieces of leather. There are a few items of clothing meant for diamond dogs, and other meant for four legged creatures.
"What would you like to see more of?"

>>429208
The doctor greets you.
"Hello, Crunch. Accident while training with your dogs?"

You manage to find three fishes, odd considering that the ponds around here contain almost no life. The two of you clean them together. He smiles at you.
"I am, Mistress. It is an honor to serve the fortress."

Continued, my connection is being a bitch again.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429217

Yes it does.

I give the three of them hugs and depart to find the other smiths.

You make metal things at DC3. After the session ends I am going to write up a teacher skill and give it to the PCs that I think have earned it.
"Lots of orders."
"Foot armor, arm armor, leg armor, silver bolts and arrows for the militia and hunters, metal studs to decorate items, metal crafts, the list goes on and on."
"Oh, in case you are interested, we finally tracked down the weapons wielded by the slain bushwoolies thieves and metaled them down."
"I call the new metal Bushwoolium."
"I call him an idiot and call the metal iron. Interested in working with steel?"

>>429230
She makes an ugly looking metal plate.
"I will be careful, Master."
She continues her work.
[1d10+3]

>>429231
You turn him over, but they have melted and fused with his flesh. Your pegasus runs back into the room, crying.
"Master! They won't let me go anywhere! The Alpha has locked forbidden slaves from moving!"

Roll #1 8 + 3 = 11

Koka [Chef] 429233

>>429232
Blink a few times.
"How good you ar' wid brewin?"
Grin.

Boyar (Preacher) 429234

>>429232
Tell Prophecy to buy whatever is needed from the merchants before they leave.

Lorik [Doctor] 429235

>>429232
I growl at him
"Just don't come near me, fleaball."
Turn to my assistants.
"Don't talk to him, his idiocy is very contagious."

Crunch [Knight] 429236

>>429232
I frown.
"Well, looks like those collars are gonna have to wait then. Guess I'll go have to keep other dogs from doing the same. Thanks, doc."

Let's go find some other dogs and see what they're up to.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429237

>>429232
"Why did nobody tell me anything about all the orders…"
I sigh.
"Certainly though. How much do we have of… uh, it? Has Boyar made any specific requests to… erm, requests of what to use it for?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429238

>>429232
Pick up Hammer and then head out to find the magic doctor

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429239

>>429232
I'll nod as she continues working.
"Good. If you have any questions, ask the two smith dogs that work the forges. They can teach you far more than I can. If they wonder why you're asking, tell them I told you to not keep any questions to yourself. I'll be back in a while to check up on you."
And once that's handled, I'll run Quartz over to the stonecrafting station.
"Here is where you'll likely be working, Quartz. Stonecraft is a valuable part of any fortress, and anything from crafts to carvings comes through the paws of a skilled stonedog."

Campfire 429240

>>429233
"I have never tried, Mistress. Will you teach me?"

>>429234
He nods and leaves. A unicorn pokes its head up from behind a table on the other side of the room before a paw pulls it back down.

>>429235
He shrugs.
"It's your hide if you don't listen. We don't have a jail in this fort, so maybe the Alpha will simple have your head hammered in instead."
Your slaves nod.
"Yes, Doctor."

>>429236
Most are working on making class items, leather items, cloth items, wood items, snow items, food, laboring, or practicing in the barracks.

>>429237
"Armor. Steel is always used for armor or weapons first."

>>429238
You are stopped at the stairs by a diamond dog.
"Can't let you th-oh Spine, what happened to him?"

>>429239
Luckily, its on the same level so you are not stopped.
"It is good for me to serve the fortress, Master."

Boyar (Preacher) 429241

>>429240
"You can all come out now."

Crunch is in charge of the militia, yes? Let's find him.

Koka [Chef] 429242

>>429240
"Not have Ah.. We shou'lern togetha!"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429243

>>429232
"This seems like an acceptable offer. We could really use the clothing, and even loose material would be useful."

Negotiate with each caravan individually. First is goats, then donkeys.
[2d10]

Also, do they happen to have any slaves in those caravans of theirs?

Roll #1 8, 8 = 16

429244

>>429240
"I'll listen to the alpha, but not to you."
Which skill level are my unicorns at? Can I train them further?

Roll #1 9 = 9

Crunch [Knight] 429245

>>429240
Snow items?
Well I guess I'll go meet the trade caravan with Aidi.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429246

>>429240
"Yes, yes, for the fort, blah blah blah."
Walk over to one of the carving stations.
"Now, Stone carving is both a little easier, and a lot harder, than gem cutting or woodcarving. If the stone you use is flawed or cracked, it can ruin the entire piece if you aren't a master who can compensate for such things."
I'll take a small chunk of rock.
"Now, I'm going to demonstrate the utter basics of carving stone. It's been a while, so I'm probably fairly rusty at it. Much as I told Copper, once you've got the gist of it, I'm turning you loose on the stonedogs to learn and practice."
Now, '1d10+1' to carve, '1d10' to explain it properly.

Roll #1 7 + 1 = 8 / Roll #2 10 = 10

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429247

>>429240
"Let me through

eheehahHAHAHAHA

OR THE SAME SAME WILL HAPPEN TO YOU!

AAAHAHAHAHHHAHHAHA
"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429248

>>429240
I nod.
"Alright then. I'll get to work on making some steel armor."
I return to my worksh-
Actually, I head over to Boyar.

Campfire 429249

>>429241
The unicorn and a diamond dog stand up. the diamond dog grabs a tray full of stacks of plates and bowls while the unicorn lifts of a large pile of food and crumbs with his magic. They both leave the room as several runners leave to lift the lockdown around the fortress.

>>429242
He smiles.
"I would love to, Mistress. If on-"
A diamond dog stick his head in.
"Lockdown's over, but stay out of the trade depot with your slaves."
The diamond dog leaves as quickly as he came. All the slaves except for yours get up and leave.

>>429243
You get a pretty good price on the items of clothing and soon have a leather vest, a flax dress, a pair of rose silk socks, and several barrels of clothing making materials.
Diamond Dogs are the only race that sell slaves.

>>429244
They are both competent healers, but both are Dabbling -3 at Mend.

>>429245
Oh wow I messed that up. I can't even remember what those messed up things were supposed to be.
You are now underground in the trade depot with Aidi, several other diamond dogs, the merchants, and their guards.

>>429246
Quartz nods as you explain.
"I think I understand, Master."

>>429247
The diamond dog growwls and reaches for a cudgel.
"Back off, or-"
A voice shouts down the stairwell.
"Lockdown's over! Keep the slaves out of the trade depot!"
The diamond dog with the cudgel steps aside.

>>429248
You find him in the dining hall in the old fortress.

Koka [Chef] 429250

>>429249
Shrug and stand up.
"Less go, uh?"
Back to our room!
"So, whereyasayin?"

Crunch [Knight] 429251

>>429249
"What've we got down here, Aidi?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429252

>>429249
Remember his face, and then start for the magic doc I went to before

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429253

>>429249
"Good. Let's see if you do. And remember, use your magic. You'll get a better grip with that than with hooves."
I'll set another rock up, and gesture for him to begin.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429254

>>429249
>>429245
"Is there anything from these two caravans you would like, or something for the militia? Let me know and we can add it to the bundle I'm buying."

Boyar (Preacher) 429255

>>429249
I go find Crunch.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429256

>>429251
"I'm purchasing some cloth, since some of the dogs are complaining about the smells coming out of what they have. I also bought some leathers, but now that you're here, I would appreciate your opinion on them. Oh, and is there anything else you think the militia could use now instead of waiting for later?"

Lorik 429257

>>429249
Hmmm… Mend is important but… are they maxed out on heal?

Crunch [Knight] 429258

>>429254
"Well, we're getting pretty well-equipped. Most every dog has some decent protection by now. What sorts of weapons or ore do they have?"

Campfire 429259

>>429250
You two are now back at your room.
"I was going to say 'If only the fortress wasn't locked down,' Mistress."

>>429252
You find him in the Hospital.

>>429253
[1d10-1]

>>429255
You spot your brother as you leave the dining hall and go to the trade depot.

>>429257
They are maxed out on heal.

Roll #1 7 - 1 = 6

Koka [Chef] 429260

>>429259
"Yeah, sup wid'dat?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429261

>>429259
"DOCTOR!"

Lay Hammer down somewhere in here.

Boyar (Preacher) 429262

>>429259
"Hello, Moloch."

I try to find Crunch after that

:3c

Lorik 429263

>>429259
Well I'm proud of them both.
That's two unicorn healers already, which is not enough. I'll go find Prophecy or whatever his name is.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429264

>>429259
I'll slightly at his carving. It's something, at least.
"Well, practice will even out the rough spots. Keep it up, and don't hesitate to ask the stonedogs for their knowledge. You are here to learn, after all."

429265

>>429261
Oh boy, nevermind. This first.
"Another eye accident. Stand back and pray. Risky spell ahead."
Try to Mend the stallion's eyes.

Roll #1 3 + 2 = 5

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429266

>>429258
>>429259
"Go ahead and look, you might find other things you can use."

Crunch [Knight] 429267

>>429259
>>429266
I'll just go and do that then. Provided he hasn't bought up all the good stuff already.

Moloch 429268

>>429262
"Wait, Boyar!"
I chase after him.
"Brother. I'm about to start working on forging some steel armor, but I wanted to check with you to see if you had any further requests for them."

Boyar (Preacher) 429269

>>429268
"Is it for the militia or a personal project?"

Campfire 429270

>>429260
"There was a goat diplomat, I think. The Alpha did not want her seeing us, Mistress."

>>429261
You lay hammer down on an operating table near Lorik.

>>429262
Crunch is in the trade depot.

>>429264
He makes a flatish rock plate.
"I will, Master."

>>429265
The stink of burnt flesh, burnt hair, and burnt eyeball juice makes you gag as you try to mend the unicorn.

>>429267
They have a few steel swords and axes, a steel warhammer, and two steel bucklers. One of the swords, two of the axes, and a buckler are richly engraved.

Boyar, and those around him, are approached by a tall, fat donkey.
"Ah, there you are. I am a diplomat from Baldtome, the donkey capitol. I have heard you are looking to expand your borders, Boyar Alpha?"

Koka [Chef] 429271

>>429270
"Dat's so borin'. Say, Ah got'n idea! We need a maid! For da bar!"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429272

>>429270
Well, I'll watch him carve a few more, and then go check on Copper. See how she's doing. Might have to toss another couple gems to those two smiths to pay for lessons, if they don't take it on credit for that last set.

Campfire 429273

>>429271
He nods his head.
"Then you should hurry to the slave pins before all of them leave for their jobs, Mistress."

>>429272
[3d10-1]
[2d10+3]

Roll #1 8, 6, 9 - 1 = 22 / Roll #2 10, 3 + 3 = 16

429274

>>429270
I'm a professional damn it!
Again! Mend him!

Roll #1 8 + 2 = 10

Moloch 429275

>>429269
"For the militia. Steel is much too valuable to be used for personal projects."

I

Moloch 429276

>>429275
Dammit.
Ignore the I.

Boyar (Preacher) 429277

>>429275
"I don't know of anything else that is needed, but perhaps you should check with Crunch. I'm looking for him now."

Crunch [Knight] 429278

>>429270
"Hey, what's the story with these engraved weapons you got here?"

Koka [Chef] 429279

>>429273
Nudge him jokingly.
"Got'yer eye on someone?"

Campfire 429280

>>429273
He makes three more plates, although none of them are quite as ugly as the last. The smiths are watching you Copper as she hammers out a simple toy axe next to a one-note flute.
"She's got spark, and that gem from last time is still working for us."
"We'll train her for free and let you keep her graduation project."

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429281

>>429270
Bow and make sure we're presentable.

Moloch 429282

>>429277
"I'll join you in looking for him then."
And off we go.

Campfire 429283

>>429274
His body flails as you squeeze his head between your paws. there a re a few flashes of light, and when you eyes refocus you can see that his face and eyes are as good as new. He doesn't say anything. All he does is hug you and sob.

>>429277
>>429282
Crunch is in the trade depot with both of you

>>429278
The donkey shrugs.
"There isn't one. Some customers pay more for fancy looking weapons and armor."

>>429279
He shakes his head and blushes a little bit.
"N-no, Mistress. Normally the mares find us when that time of the year rolls around."

>>429281
He ignores you.

Boyar, and those around him, are approached by a tall, fat donkey.
"Ah, there you are. I am a diplomat from Baldtome, the donkey capitol. I have heard you are looking to expand your borders, Boyar Alpha?"

Boyar (Preacher) 429284

>>429283
"Yes, perhaps. Is there some way you could be of service to us? Or perhaps we could be of service to you?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429285

>>429280
I'll nod.
"Sounds fair to me. After her lessons, just send her back to me. This will also let you get my attention faster if necessary."
And since that's taken care of, let's meander off to check on Gem, and then Spinel and Luster.

Crunch [Knight] 429286

>>429283
"Huh, is that all? Just some filigree and sparkle bits?"

Koka [Chef] 429287

>>429283
Shrug.
"Can' faul'em, a girl's got needs.
Wanna come 'nyway?"

Moloch 429288

>>429283
I approach Crunch.
"Crunch… erm, do you have any requests for additions to steel armor? Or, uh… Do you want me to do anything special for these steel armor sets I'm making?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429289

>>429283
I just grumble
"Yes. Fine. No need to test those eyes by crying."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429290

>>429283
Beam at the doctor's work

"AAAHDHDAHAHAHAHA!

Doctor

heehehaha

is there something to repay you for this? hahahahiahihihihi!!

eheahahahah!

Anything?
"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429291

>>429283
Try not to whimper and and keep an eye on Crunch in case he still wants the weapons.

Campfire 429292

>>429284
"I was wondering if you had any plans to move against the diamond dog mountainhomes to the south once your nation becomes strong. They are no where near as agreeable as your fortress has been."

>>429285
Gem is cranking out cut gems while Spinel plays with Luster.

>>429286
"I've been asked the same things about diamond dog crafts that are studded with gems. If somecreature wants to trade items for them, then that's the way things are."

>>429287
He nods again.
"I would love to, Mistress."

>>429289
He lets go of your leg and croaks a weak "Thank you" before returning to Braiq's side and nuzzling the pegasus.

Lorik [Doctor] 429293

>>429290
"No. It's my job. Am only doing what is expected of me. Unless you have some jobless unicorns at your disposal. In that case you should send them to me for training."

>>429292
"No need to thank."

Crunch [Knight] 429294

>>429288
"Moloch? Not at the moment. I can't really make demands until we lose a dog, and so far we haven't yet…so long as we keep getting good steel things should be fine."
Think on that for a moment.
"…how about shields, bucklers? Do we have any of those?"

>>429292
I shrug.
"Fair enough. How much for the sword or warhammer?"

Koka [Chef] 429295

>>429292
Nod him to follow and off to the pens we go!

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429296

>>429292
Well, that's good, I suppose.
Doesn't leave much for me to do, though… Guess I can walk about the fort. I think I'll take Spinel and Luster with me. Think I'll go up to the surface. Get some air.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429297

>>429293
"Unicorns? ehehehahahahha!

Right right
"

>>429292
turn to the stallion
"Another go? Or study more?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429298

>>429292
"Where are your caravans headed to after us? If you could let us know, we might be able to make things that will be sought out by your next customers."

Koka [Chef] 429299

>>429295
Oh yeah, and look at the slaves. Unicorn mare would be the best.

Campfire 429300

>>429294
There are plenty of steel shields and bucklers for your squad.

>>429294
"1000☀ and 1400☀."

>>429295
>>429299
The two of you get to the slave pins. There are females of every race here that are available.

>>429297
"Whatever you desire, Master."

>>429298
"We are each on or way to Deeptrodden, a small pony settlement two weeks south of here. They mostly mine, so food and clothing items are in high demand."

Lorik [Doctor] 429301

>>429300
Now. Go see Prophecy.

Koka [Chef] 429302

>>429300
"Hey gurls.
Who's here gud wi'tables?"

Moloch 429303

>>429294
"Copper ones I'm sure."
I shake my head.
"This is the first time… uh, we've gotten steel so far. We've just been working with… well, copper and silver before this."
I fiddle with my paws.
"Though… if you say it should be good, then I'll take your word. Good day Crunch."
And then I head back to the smithy and drop by the other two smiths.
"Uh, do you two have the steel still or was it moved to storage?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429304

>>429300
I sigh.

"The two things we are low on. I'll remember to set aside a bit more food for trade since we're slowly filling our own coffers."

Boyar (Preacher) 429305

>>429292
"I can't speak about our plans for war, Baldtome. I'm sure you understand. I appreciate your moral support, however. Perhaps if we do make war, we can count on your aid in trade and supplies?"

Campfire 429306

>>429301
You find him eating in the dining hall.
"Yes?"

>>429302
"We all are, mam."
"Both in a dining hall and at fancy meals."

>>429303
"We've kept it all here. You've got five bars to work with."

>>429304
"Very well."
Oh, I forgot to mention something.
Raiding destination acquired: Deeptrodden.

>>429305
"Oh yes, you most certainly can. That is all I wished to say. This is certainly a nice place you have carved out…"
He gets back into one of the donkey wagons.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429307

Koka [Chef] 429308

>>429306
Blink a few times.
"This' be harder than Ah thought!"
Look at Cook.
"Who's best?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429309

>>429306
"I need a separate room from the hospital to set up shop. A miniature clinic. Not many beds needed. Healing magic usually allows patient to walk out right after treatment, unlike traditional medicine. Large hospital is unnecessary for me."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429310

Luster runs along your side as the three of you go up to the surface You get in two deep breaths before Luster hits you in the back with a snowball. Spinell looks mortified.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429312

>>429311
Oh, so… That's how it will be, I see.
"You had best be prepared for the consequence of that action, Luster."
Grabbing up a pawful of snow, I'll ball it up and toss it back.'1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429313

>>429306
"I'll remember that, thank you for your business."

If everything is concluding, let's go and check on Quill and the slaves. I still need to deliver a few and find the rest jobs.

Crunch [Knight] 429314

>>429300
"Eh. I'll take the hammer."

Campfire 429315

>>429308
"We are all equally good, Mistress. A unicorn or gryphon may be faster, but in the end I think you should choose whichever one you think looks best."

>>429310
He nods his head.
[1d10-1]

>>429312
It hits him in the face and knocks him over. He quickly gets back up and throws a bit of snow at you with a burst of magic while laughing. Spinell still looks mortified.

>>429313
Quill is doing fine, the male slaves have all returned to work, but a runt bitch has held up all the female ones.

Roll #1 4 - 1 = 3

Koka [Chef] 429316

>>429315
Shrug.
Who's the youngest and all around cutest looking?
"I could go for a unicorn."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429317

>>429315
"Well, don't just stand there, Spinel, return fire."
And I'll hurl another snowball. '1d10'

You trade every barterable item you owned and are left with a heavy steel warhammer.

>>429316
It's a tie between a young zebra mare and a young goat nanny.
"I would be thankful to mistress if she did."

>>429317
She picks up a snow ball and throws it at him.
[1d10]

>>429309
Sorry.
He nods his head.
"Alright. Chances are high that the hospital will be the last thing made because of their need of wells. Being located under the aquifer makes that tricky."

Roll #1 4 = 4

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429320

>>429316
Tap her on the shoulder after hearing her.
"Well, you only have one choice then."

"Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Aidi, the one in charge of the slaves. About the unicorns, one of the males is being assigned to the farmers, but I have another free one if you want 'im. What are you gonna use them for?"

Campfire 429321

>>429319
You both miss him. he throws one more snowball which hits Luster, then sits down to catch his breath.

Now… Go to the slave pens. Time for more unicorns.

Koka [Chef] 429324

>>429319
"Eh, sure, that magic's gonna be useful, na?"
Motion to the unicorn mare to come closer.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429325

>>429321
I'll dust off my paws.
"Had fun, did you?"

Moloch 429326

>>429306
I nod.
"Alright then. Oh, and uh… Do you have anything else for me? I heard that, erm, you were the ones they were dropped off to when we left for the raids."

Crunch [Knight] 429327

>>429319
Heft and swing it a few times, then nod my thanks.

Campfire 429328

>>429322
You fail to tell him things he doesn't already know. He tries again.

>>429323
You find only one unicorn. She is a mare that is being spoken to by a runt bitch.

>>429324
She steps closer and bows. He coat is mauve, her mane and tail are pink. Her ears are a little tall and her teeth are close set.

>>429325
He smiles up at you.

>>429326
"Oh, yes. The necklaces."
You get three necklaces. Two copper with gems whoe color matches the major color in the ponies' cutiemarks, and the other silver with a black gem.

Roll #1 2 = 2

Campfire 429329

>>429327
He nods back. The warhammer is well made.

Lorik [Doctor] 429330

>>429328
Only one? Ugh…
Approach the two
"I need unicorns. Where are all the unicorns."
Point at the mare
"You, are you jobless?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429331

>>429328
I'll give him a sharp tap on his nose.
"I hope it was worth it. Next time, no surprise attacks."
I'll huff slightly.
"And don't try that with any of the other dogs. They are not as kind as I am, and would have beaten you for the first snowball."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429332

>>429328
I take them from the smiths and and the bars of steel and nod.
"Thank you."
And with that, I return back to my own forge. How did my assistants fair?

Koka [Chef] 429333

>>429328
Look at Cook with my arms crossed, waiting on his opinion.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429334

>>429328
>>429320
"Like what you see? Let me know and I can sign her off for you."

>>429330
"Eh, two potential adopters. Well, the mare is being considered by Koka here, but I have a Unicorn Stallion also available to be assigned."

Campfire 429335

>>429328
>1
He smashes his hoof with the hammer and curses his clumsiness.
"Sorry, Master."

Campfire 429336

>>429334
Actually, I messed up my math. All five unicorn stallions are currently assigned.

Lorik [Doctor] 429337

>>429334
"Considered? I'll take the mare if she can't make up her mind. Need more unicorns."

Crunch [Knight] 429338

>>429329
Now, time to go put my newest acquisition away and see how the militia is doing.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429339

>>429336
>>429334
"Wait, wait, Quill just let me know the last one was checked out, so the Mare is all we have left."

>>429337
"Let me check to see that the farmers got the other stallion we had. They had requested one some time ago and the fortress needs them first."

Campfire 429340

>>429332
You return to the forge and find [3d10]

"Currently, sir, but another diamond dog is already considering me. I am sorry."

>>429333
"I like her, Mistress. Forgive me, but I feel that you should chose the slave you want to have, not the slave I want you to have."

>>429338
They are all resting while two slaves put away equipment that was used in a demonstration of some sort. Your second in command climbs out of bed to greet you.
"Hello, boss."

Roll #1 9, 6, 7 = 22

Campfire 429341

>>429340
They have all made a good quality copper breastplate.
All your slave are now Competent.

Koka [Chef] 429342

>>429337
"Ya, Ah think Ah'll take her. Waddaya need her for?"
>>429320
>>429334
"Oh, Ah jus' need a gud maid. Gotta be pretty'n the fancy magic to serve tables."
>>429340
Look at him angrily.
"You da pony, you gotta tell me if she's lookin' right!"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429343

Lorik [Doctor] 429344

>>429339
>>429340
"Well? Can I have her or what?"

>>429342
"More healers."

Campfire 429345

>>429331
>>429343
He nods his head.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429346

>>429341
I grin ecstatically at all of them.
"What wonderful work! You three really are progressing wonderfully. And, because of it, I have a gift that I've been meaning to give you."
I present the three of them with the necklaces.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429347

>>429345
"Good. You learn quickly, at least."
I'll motion Spinel over to pick him up.
"Now, back down we go. Perhaps something interesting will happen on the way back to the shop."

Koka [Chef] 429348

>>429344
Shrug.
"Dat's a better thin' ta do wi'magic, Ah guess. Hey, if ya had to be served by one o'em, who'd it be?"
Motion over at the various mares.

Crunch [Knight] 429349

>>429340
"Hey. What were you all just up to?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429350

>>429348
What kind of mares?

Koka [Chef] 429351

>>429350
Hell if I remember.
But there's a female of every race and the two prettiest are a young zebra and a young goat.

Campfire 429352

>>429342
He starts shaking.
"I am sorry, mistress. She looks fine, absolutely fine!"

>>429346
All three of their jaws drop as they see the necklaces.
"They are wonderful, Master!"
"Thank you so much!"

>>429347
She nods and the three of you start walking back to your workshop at the entrance of the old fortress. Just as your are about to walk past the path leading to the barracks a diamond dog walks out and you run straight into it, knock you both back onto your rear ends. Looking up, you see Poet.
"Hey there, Pom Rainian. Fancy running into you here."
She laughs at her joke.

>>429350
Earth pegasus, and zebras. There are also a female gryphon, a female goat, and a female donkey.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429353

>>429350
>>429351
"These kinds of mares. I'll have Quill gather them, but here's the list of all we have."

Hand him the clipboard with the data.
http://pastebin.com/buXWQ2h6

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429354

>>429352
"Indeed. What's the hurry?"
I'll stand up a bit, dust off, and then offer a paw to help her up.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429355

>>429352
I continue grinning and give each of them their respective necklaces.
"Do you like them?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429356

>>429352
"Zebra looks classy. So does pegasus."

Koka [Chef] 429357

>>429356
"Gud."
Nod strongly.
>>429352
"T's alright."
Pat him on the head.
Motion the zebra closer.
"Ya start tomorrow."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429358

>>429328
Well shit

alright start constructing things that I can trade with. '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Campfire 429359

>>429354
You stand up, now at eye level with her, and offer her a paw to help her up. She looks at you, raising an eyebrow.
"Okay, sure."
She grabs your paw with hers.
Roll to see if you can pull her up, or if you end up getting pulled over by the strong and larger diamond dog.

>>429355
They all nods their heads so hard that they have trouble putting on their necklaces.
"They are beautiful!"
"Thank you so much, Master!"
"I hope we can make things this nice eventually!"

>>429357
She walks up to you and bows.
"Thank you, Mistress. Will Mistress be keeping me here or in her room?"

>>429358
You have no luck as your pegasus helps your stallion limp off to find a doctor.

Koka [Chef] 429360

>>429359
"Ah think we got a room big 'nuff.
The bed, too."
Now I really gotta sleep.

Lorik [Doctor] 429361

>>429359
Wasting time doing nothing. Dammit.
Take that unicorn mare along.
"What is your name?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429362

>>429359
I'm not some panty-waist pussywillow of a dog. '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

Crunch [Knight] 429363

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429364

>>429359
I chuckle at their excitement.
"Well you three are free to take the day off if you wish. You've done an excellent job today and you certainly are deserving of a break."
I perk up.
"Oh! Though I do have one thing… would you three like to sign your work with your names?"
I gesture to the three breastplates they made.

Campfire 429365

>>429363
"Combat practice, boss. The dogs are all worn out after it."

Campfire 429366

>>429360
She follows you back to your room. the three of you crawl into bed and you lay sandwiched between your soft, warm slaves.

>>429361
"I haven't one, Master."

>>429362
>DC7
You lean back and pull with both paws and get her butt about a foot off the ground. She moves her feet and digs her other paw into the ground to help her the rest of the way up.
"You're actually pretty strong for a runt, Pom."
She looks at the snow on you and your two ponies.
"What happened to the three of you? Pups ambush you all with snowballs?"

>>429364
"If…Master wants us to."
"Are you sure that the recipients would not object, Master?"

Crunch [Knight] 429367

>>429365
"Well then they learned something. You guys need anything down here? New practice dummies?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429368

>>429366
"A small engraving on the inside won't hurt anydog. And if they do have a problem, then they can bring it up with me."
I chuckle.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429369

>>429359
RRRRRRRRGH FUCKING HAMMER SOMETHING INTO THE GROUND '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

Lorik [Doctor] 429370

>>429366
"Come up with something, will you? Ponies usually like fruity names. As a unicorn, I will train you in the magnificent art of healing magic. Agreed?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429371

>>429366
"It seems Luster thought to try his aim, and I responded accordingly. Slave he may be, he's still a child."
I'll scratch the side of my nose.
"I've warned him not to try that with any of the other dogs, as they would not be as patient with him as I was. Usually. You might knock him clean off his hooves with a snowball, though."
I'll brush off some of the remaining snow.
"How about yourself? Heading out for target practice, or hunting?"

Campfire 429372

>>429367
He nods his head.
"Ours are mostly pulp and splinters now. We have a few flasks, waterskins, and backpacks, but more would be great next time we go on a raid."

>>429369
You grab a copper sword off a rack and hit it hard enough to drive it halfway into the stone floor.

>>429370
"Fruity name. Yes, Master, thank you for offering to train me."

>>429371
"Lunch, actually. Care to join me?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429373

>>429361
>>429370
Follow behind him because he still needs to sign off on her.

"I only need some of your information, and if you plan on having her stay with you. We'll be expanding here, so we need to take that into consideration."

"I heard you talking about names, so just to let you know, we've been naming them after tools or their duty. This makes it easy for us to keep up on them."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429374

>>429372
"I wouldn't be against it."
I'll turn to Spinel.
"Take Luster back to his mother, and then come back with the mug I keep in the cupboard in the shop. After that, I'll send you on the way with some food."
And then it's off to lunch with Poet.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429375

>>429372
PULL IT OUT AND START BREAKING IT THE FUCK DOWN '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429376

Lorik [Doctor] 429377

>>429372
"My assistants will help as well. And no, Fruity name is not a decent name."

>>429373
"Doctor Lorik. She will be staying in my new room with my other assistants. I asked Prophecy to arrange it. And unlike the rest of this fortress, I am not a braindead moron who cannot keep track of names."

Campfire 429378

>>429368
Sorry.
"We will do so, Mistress."
The three of them leave the forge, chatting with each other as they go.

Crunch [Knight] 429379

>>429372
"Sounds easy enough. Tell the boys to keep an eye out when they go out next time. I'll get to work on crafting some new targets for you lot."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429380

>>429378
"If you run into any trouble, please do tell me and I'll do my best to clear it up!"
I wave to them as they leave.

Now…
I take a look at the steel.
How many bars would I need to make a breastplate? And then from there, what would be the next most useful piece of armor to make?

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429381

>>429377
"…"

"Just keeping you informed. I'm also the Negotiator for the Fortress, so let me know if you, or your slaves, need anything. Feel free to go through Quill, the Gryphon that works for me. In fact, I insist you do so."

Let's go to the farmers and see if they'll be available to train their gryphon.

Campfire 429382

>>429374
She nods and heads off with Luster. You and Poet walk to the kitchen. On the menu for today are various sandwiches, roasts, and soups. Poet orders a plump helmet, potato, and lama heart roast and grabs herself a large mug of strawberry wine. Spinnel returns with your gem mug and Poet's eyes go wide.
"Holy Spine, Pom. That's amazing!"

>>429377
"Sorry, master."

>>429379
"Thanks, Boss. Say, you should train with us sometime."

>>429380
"We will, Master!"

Just one. The most useful items would be a breastplate, followed by a helmet, greaves, gauntlets, a shield, and boots.

>>429381
Most of the farmers, as well as the stallion they have, are sitting with a confused looking male gryphon as a few of the larger farmers and all of the buffaloes play Doge the Buffalo. The head farmer, a tall bitch with farmer's muscles, greets you.
"Train him? For what?"

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429383

>>429382
"I just wanted an official sounding reason to come out here. It's been hectic, with the caravans and newcomers and adoptions, I'd like nothing more than to be outside. How are the two new charges of yours coming along?"

Just go ahead and lie down next to the others.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429384

>>429382
Alright.
I'll start off making… I'll just focus on a single breastplate for now.
'1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429385

>>429382
"Got the idea from the glassmaker, actually. He made a mug for himself out of glass, and I thought, well, gems are close enough. So I found one big enough, and made a mug out of it."
I'll frown a little at it.
"I still think I could have done better, though it is serviceable."
I'll send Spinel back to the others laden with sandwiches and something for her to drink with the others.
Fetching myself a roast, I'll top off my mug with some frothy alcohol and return to the seat.
"I could always make you one, if you want. Or if you'd rather just get a stein studded with gemstones, that would work too."

Crunch [Knight] 429386

>>429382
"Yeah, good idea. See if you guys can manage to beat my record, eh?'
Wave him off and head back to the wood shop.

Lorik 429387

>>429382
"Don't be. Ask my assistants for help if you can't think of something."
Now back to that goddamned hospital.
Time to teach this pony some goddamn magic.

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429388

>>429382
Can I start making something useful now? '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

Campfire 429389

>>429383
"We only got the one gryphon, and we're still trying to get him acclimated."
She stops talking and cheers as diamond dog manages to stop a buffalo after almost fifteen feet. The gryphon jumps slightly as one of the diamond dogs claps him on the back.
"Once he gets used to how we do things I'm sure he'll make a great addition to the family. Here, have some grub."
She passes you a bowl full of berries and root vegetables.

>>429384
Your arm grows a little sore as you carefully hammer the steel, which is much harder to work with than soft copper. Nonetheless, you are eventually rewarded with a great quality steel breastplate. Perhaps you should keep it for yourself? It is the first one produced in the fortress, after all, and it is much to big for the Alpha to wear.

>>429385
She chokes on her food a little before taking a big swig of her wine.
"You'd make me a giant gem mug, just like that?"

>>429386
"Will do, boss."
He returns to his bed. Your gryphon bows and the other dogs wave as you enter.
"Here to help us with our work?"

>>429387
She sits in front of you, waiting to be taught.

>>429388
You find a bar of steel at the bottom of a pile of silver bars. With a clear, cam mind you hammer out a pair of greaves to go with your steel helmet, mail shirt, and shield. Your two slaves return the room.

Crunch [Knight] 429390

>>429389
"Yeah. The barracks needs some new practice dummies. You all know what to do?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429391

>>429389
Perhaps.
I set it aside and begin working on a smaller breastplate for Boyar now.
'1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429392

>>429389
"Well, I could try. Takes a pretty big gem to make a decent mug, and if I can keep the dig dogs from pocketing them I should be able to get one or two chances here and there."
I'll take a swig.
"Or I could just give you my spare, if you don't mind smaller, second-paw mugs."

Lorik 429393

>>429389
Tap her horn
"How good is your magic? As a unicorn, you have the benefit of owning a natural catalyst. Very useful trait for healers. Can always be regrown with Mend too."

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429394

>>429389
"Family, huh? I'm not going to say I'm not jealous of how thing have been working out here since I've taken other responsibilities. And the Unicorn, how is he doing? Having fun with him yet?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429395

>>429389
Hammer out a face mask for my stallion metalsmith '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Campfire 429396

>>429390
"Unless you make them yourself they are going to go at the bottom of the list. We've got beds, tables, and chairs that need to be made."

>>429391
Working quickly, lest you lose your rhythm, you hammer out a pup sized breastplate for your little brother. While it is still soft from the heat you scratch the holy symbol of God Supernoble onto the center of it.

>>429392
"Not at all."
She takes another bite and laughs.
"A bitch might start to think a dog is getting sweet on her after being offered so many wonder gifts."

>>429393
"It is untrained, Master. my levitation skills are on par with every other unicorn owned here."

>>429394
"Well, you treat your slaves right and they turn into good people, instead of good tools. There weren't any free unicorn stallions, so we didn't get a unicorn. Maybe next time."

>>429395
You heat and hammer a bar of copper until it is the proper shape to fit over your stallion's face. Once it has cooled you have him try it on. It fits well, but will need something to fasten it onto his face.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429397

>>429396
I smile.
He's going to love this for sure.
And…
Oh why not.
I'm gonna use the other 3 bars to make more breastplates. Most effective piece of armor after all.
'1d10'

Roll #1 1 = 1

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429398

>>429396
"The first one was what I promised you for the paw. The second because you thought it was funny and I didn't think I'd be able to sell it."
I'll idly tap the side of my mug.
"And this is I guess just an offer to a friend maybe."
Yes, I think it's time I either ate or drank. Mm, this roast is delicious. This booze as well. Did I ever have time for socializing before I had slaves?
"Besides, as I recall you saying, you weren't much one for settling on any one dog."

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429399

>>429396
After making sure the food is secured around the ground for a bit because I was certain I sent them one.

How many times do I roll around?
[1d10]

"I'm locking the door to them next. A couple of dogs were arguing about them when I arrived, and others were probably picked up before then. Any unicorn that shows up comes straight here."

Roll #1 9 = 9

429400

>>429396
"That wil do then. Remember that your horn is the center of your power. Everything relies on your catalyst. The stronger the catalyst the stronger the spells and the less likely spells go wrong."
Well, time to teach her the very basics.

Roll #1 2 = 2

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429401

>Roll around the ground

Crunch [Knight] 429403

>>429396
"Well then I can speed that up. What are you working on now?"

Campfire 429404

>>429397
The bar of steel slips as you hold it steady with a pair of tongs, and you hit the tongs instead. They twist and you yelp as you feel several of your fingers become dislocated.

>>429398
Maybe you did, but you always found something else to fill it.
"I think you misunderstood me. I'm not a floozy. I'm not going to go and share a room with any dog that flexes his muscles at me or gets run over by a buffalo, but if I find a sweet, hardworking guy…"
She takes a sip, eyes on you.

>>429399
You roll around nine times.
"If you can buy us a stallion that would be great."
There is some laughter as a diamond dog gets thrown over the top of the buffalo. The buffalo helps the dog up then takes a bow.
"Care to join the fun?"

>>429400
Her face scrunches up in confusion. If only you had a horn you would know how to teach unicorns better.

>>429401
They leave the room. You try to make some bracers for him, but keep smooshing them as you work.

>>429403
"Beds. We've got over a hundred that still need to be made."

Aidi E'betting [Knight] 429405

>>429404
"Sure, it was pretty exhilarating the first time I did it. Let's see how I do the second time."

Take a stance, and get ready.

"For the new arrivals?"

Roll #1 4 = 4

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429409

>>429404
"Oh."
Goodness me, did this lunch just get awkward. Glitter Bronzelilac, what the devil are you doing.
"I… uh, I see."
How do those smiths make it so easy? And they've got to sell it as a team!
"Well, uh, I…"
Drink. Oh Bronzelilac do I drink. Where in blazes am I supposed to go with this? She can't mean a short dog like me. But then again, she's liked the gems…
"I don't suppose I'm under consideration, then?"

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429410

Weaken them, then start over and add reinforcing rings around the edges '1d10'

Campfire 429411

>>429405
The large cow snorts and charges at you. You grab her horns wrong and she flips you up and onto her soft back before she can run you over. She slows to a stop as soon as you land.
"Are you okay up there, miss?"

>>429406
You find the doctor in the hospital playing catch with his unicorn while the donkey takes inventory. He sees you fingers.
"I can pop those back into place quick enough. Want a strip of leather or some anesthetics?"

>>429407
She nods her head.
"Speeding up the natural regrowth of tissues with magic? I think I understand that, doctor. Will you give me an example?"
She is now rolling at -3.

>>429408
"For the new fortress. Currently most everydog is hotbunking with in threedog shifts, as well ass sleeping in any bed they can find in the hospital or the slave pins."

>>429409
A slave refills your mug. She smiles and her eyes twinkle with a playful light.
"I'm afraid if I answer that you'll give yourself alcohol poisoning. I've never seen anydog drink that fast and stay upright."
Roll.

>>429410
You do that, but they still wind up a little lumpy. Your two slaves return with a few stripes of leather, two already fastened to the mask as straps.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429412

>>429411
"Anesthetics please…"

429413

>>429411
Take out my scalpel and make a small cut in my arm.
"Go ahead."

The donkey takes some herbs out of a pouch in a green class chest and carry them over to the doctor, who takes them and gives them to you.
"Sit down on a bed and chew on these."

"You're the only one I've got my eyes on, Pom. You're a sweet guy and you treat you slaves right. I like that."
She takes another bite of her food.

>>429416
You keep pace with them easily and are able to finish a number of beds with them.
"Want to keep going?"

>>429415
You roll off her side and land on the sift, tilled earth. She helps you up and sends you on your way with several farewells from the stallion, the buffaloes, and the dogs. The glassworker, leatherworker, woodburners, hunters, and woodcutters have no slaves. Quill clears his throat.
"Mistress, it may be wise to leave a few of the slaves unclaimed as a general workforce. From experience I know that one is needed to help clear the mines."

"Pom, you sappy little runt!"
She bends over and gives you a quick kiss on the head.

If the light hit it right, it was practically hypnotizing. Probably would have kept it myself if I hadn't promised it to them."
I'll shake my head.
"Apparently they really liked it, since Copper is getting free metalcrafting lessons out of it."
I'll look to another gem. Let's see… I think I'll make this one something a little more complicated. Maybe a bird… '1d10+4'

You take a light green gem and start chipping at it with your chisel, cutting out each individual feather. Once the body is done you set two small black gems into sockets to act as eyes. After all of that is done you carve a base for it to sit on out of a clear gem. When it is all said and done you are left with a gem bird in midflight. Poet is completely speechless.

Poet's tail is making wide, fast swing behind her and her eyes have a dreamy, far off look in them. You quickly realize the signs of gem bedazzlement, a sort of high most often experience by miners when they come across a rich vein or cluster of gems. You've long since become immune to it.
"It's wonderful, Pom."

>>429478
You find a few diamond dogs with cuts, bruises, and scrapes that you easily fix. Each time you make sure to tell them your name and how much better your magic is compared to traditional medicine.

>>429483
"Thank you, Doctor. We are hungry for lunch, Doctor."

You throw a cloth over it and most of the other well made things in your workshop. The sooner they are out of sight the sooner she will recover. She speaks in a dreamy, far-away voice.
"S'not dangerous. S'beutiful."
She smiles at you and wags her tail harder.
"You're a good friend, Pom."
Pom Rainian knows that bedazzled diamond dogs are left in a state of detached euphoria. While bedazzled they are slow witted, congenial, agreeable, lethargic, and easily manipulated.

>>429485
You sit down in the cold snow and eat hot stew with your slaves. The sky is clear and blue, the sun warm and yellow.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429487

>>429486
"Yes, Sir!"
Hop around like a happy dog. Let's see if we can convince some of the squads to help us in the training and guarding. Since the Caravans have left, we can use the trading depot as the training ground so they can't escape.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429488

>>429486
I'll nod.
"Yes, it would seem so."
I'll snap my paw in front of her face.
"Come on now, back to your senses."

Braiq [Wrdncr/Mnr/Slvr/Smth] 429489

>>429486

Alright time to head back in with them. Tell the two to head back to the room and relax/study/whatever, then head to the trader's and sell off the set that wasn't melted down

Lorik [Doctor] 429490

>>429486
"Understood."
Fetch these horned equines some lunch to nibble on. And for myself.
Then turn to the new mare as we eat.
"Decided on a name yet, nurse?"

Campfire 429491

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429493

I'll just sigh.
"Well, looks like I can't let you leave for now. Spinel, could you fetch a blanket and a pillow? Gem, could tidy up that corner there?"
I'll just pat Poet on the head for the moment. Maybe scratch behind her ears.

Lorik [Doctor] 429494

>>429491
"What kind of-"
I shake my head.
"No, if that is the name you want, I cannot judge. Nurse… Banana Hammock it is."
Ponies are weird…
"Remember, you are Doctor Lorik's assistant. You don't need to follow any orders from other dogs. Especially not that other doctor. Do not talk to him, understood? He's incredibly dense."

Campfire 429495

>>429492
You walk through the fortress for a while before returning to your room and falling into bed.
Goodnight, thanks for playing.

>>429493
Panting and wagging her tail hard enough to repeatedly whack you in the back, Poet leans into your as your pat her head and scratch her ears. Gem levitates the clutter out of the corner then sits down to watch you with a bemused smile on her face. Spinnel returns a few minutes later with a few blankets and a pillow. She coughs back a laugh when she sees Poet still leaning on you. Once her mirth is contained she makes a bed from the blankets in the cleared corner.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429496

>>429491
"I don't want to risk anything for our first time, so let's have five dogs lead five goats by the collar, while the rest stand guard. We'll just walk them around in laps for now. Any that resist, we tie up to one of the walls with a very short chain and just leave them there under supervision."

And I'll lead her over to the bedding.

Lorik [Doctor] 429498

Campfire 429499

>>429494
She nods her head.
"Yes, Master."
After that she frowns.
"Is something wrong with my name, Doctor? Do you not like it?"

>>429496
They all nod as you all walk into the slave pin then down the long hallway to the locked door. Behind the door are the goats from the raid. For nearly a month the only contact they have had with the outside world is the diamond dog who brings them food. He does not speak to them.

>>429497
She tries to give you another kiss as you help her into bed, but she loses her balance and falls into the blankets. After you get a blanket over her and a pillow under her head she quickly falls asleep.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429500

>>429499
I'll pat her head and leave her to sleep, then walk over to Gem and Spinel.
"Obviously this never leaves this room, understood?"

Lorik [Doctor] 429501

>>429499
I wave a paw dismissively
"Pony names are just strange to diamond dogs. I don't know what to make of the name. I neither like or dislike it."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429502

Well uh
Since Gaius isn't here I guess I can't really do anything.

I'll just say that I dropped them off with him, and then I go back and grab Boyar's armor and go find him.
"Brother?"

zulu 429503

I open up my office door.

"Yes, Moloch?"

Boyar (Preacher) 429504

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 429505

Have five of them chosen at random. Let the dogs decide the ones they will take. Collar them and take them to the depot.

Simply tell them: "Walk."

We need to see their reactions.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 429506

I'll look at the covered works I've made.
"Seems I'll need to be more careful about which dogs see what."
I'll make a mental note that I should make a small gem vault beneath our new room once the lower floors have been secured.

Campfire 429513

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 429521

>>429513
Yep, those are staying covered until they're moved or binned. I think I'll keep the Bird Gem for now. Maybe I'll mount it over the door of my new room eventually. Or just keep it as a conversation piece. Well, whatever. Poet could wake up whenever, so I can't leave without fear of her bedazzling herself again. That is an interesting trick, though. I wonder if it would work on other dogs.
Anyway, I'll tidy up the shop, and then tell Spinel and Gem that they can fetch Quartz, Copper, and Luster, and then head to the bathing area. If anydog gives them gruff, just tell them that the Gemcutter doesn't want smelly slaves.
Sniffing myself, I'll say that I'll end up going after Poet's woken up.
And then I guess I'll wait.

Campfire 429522

No goat ran. One of the goats obeyed the walk command after her collar was tugged on a few times.

Not really. Just bitches and studs eating their meals while taking a break from their work. You see diamond dogs from every profession in the fortress here.

>>429520
She looks concerned.
"Why not, Master? I was told that diamond dogs need meat to maintain their strength."

>>429521
The three of them leave. After about about an hour Poet stirs.
"Uhnn, wha-? What?"
She sits bolt upright and looks around, then locks her eyes on you.
"Pom! What happened? Why am I lying in some makeshift bed?""

Aidi E'betting [Slaver] 429523

My mistake.

Keep the three locked up and make sure their mouths are tied down. Get three more goats and try with them. Again, let the dogs pick for themselves.

She continues eating.

PAUSED FOR REAL

Campfire 432010

At some point in time before Aidi decided to try and break the goats, the following events occurred.

>Aidi

You are in your cramped room with Quill when a diamond dog knocks on your door.

>Kopaz

You sit on your comfy bed while Memory sits on the floor with a brush balanced on her head.
"Are you ready yet, Master?"

>Everyone else

Be wherever you want to be.

Campfire 432015

>>432010
Or, for all we know, these events occur after the goat rebellion was put down. Time is a funny thing, here in the fortress.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432024

>>432010
"No, sleep. I don't want to get up."
Still, roll out of bed, but on some presentable clothes, and go answer.

Point at the thing.
"What that?"

Lorik [Doc dog] 432026

You can ignore this if you want to.

>>432025
"It's a brush. You promised to brush my coat before you started work today, remember?"
Her headdress flashes as it reflects torchlight.
Roll.

>>432026
She smiles.
"Thank you, Master. Whenever a dog hears the words Banana Hammock I want them to think of you and your skill in training your slaves."

>>432035
"Hello, Crunch. We've finished the last of the beds. Can you try and find a runt bitch by the name of Koka? She put in an order for some tables and chairs and we want to clarify a few things."

>>432057
"We want to know if she is certain that she wants the tables and chairs made from wood instead of stone, metal, or glass. We've already got a lot of furniture that is either going to be burned or sold when the fortress moves out of this hill and into the stone and we don't want waste any more wood."

>>432058
You do, in fact, remember promising to brush not only her coat but her mane as well. Maybe being around your slave is helping your memory get better?

She looks down.
"Sorry, Doctor. My old training is hard to break, but I will do my very best for you."

"I know you'd like more of that Golden Salve, but as the Head Trader, I can request our craftsdog focus on other things you may need."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432221

Wake up!
Where am I?

Campfire 432232

>>432206
You numb the arrena with some herbs you find then slice it open and pull out the arrow.
"I haven't one, mam. How are the diamond dogs? Are they well?"

>>432149
>>432155
>She nods her head fervently.
>"A very good choice, Master! Come, let us gather our share of gems from the mine."

>>432212
They take her off the see the gryphon, the wonderful gryphon of Oz.
You are now standing outside your room is a very cramped hallway. From up and down the hallway you can hear the sounds of domestic life in a fortress. Snatches of voice come from your left and right. In the distance you can hear the pitter patter of small paws as a small pack of pups runs up and down a nearby hallway. You can hear adult dogs resting and talking. You can hear slaves playing small instruments, slaves being taught lessons, slaves being disciplined, and slaves trying to keep up with the aforementioned pack of pups. Through sandy loam wall in front of you you hear the clink of plates and mugs and the sound of laughter and mildly drunken song as diamond dogs eat in the dining hall.

>>432218
"We can get most of our needs met elsewhere, but prepared meals are always nice."
"Lots of our people pay well for foreign food."
"Stone and metal toys are a favorite of young zebas."
"And glass instruments are all the rage in our capitol right now."
"Of course, we know you will most likely focus on trade with your southern brothers while you still can, but we are more than happy to buy your excess at a fair price."

>>432221
In your room with your three happy slaves. you can see their old paintings hanging up on the walls.

Kopaz [Diggy Doggy] 432234

>>432232
Missed it while moving home, sorry
Poke her side.
"Lead."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432245

>>432232
Ugh. Why does this place have to be filled with so many filthy dogs? Should have just gone to a pony settlement instead… and hope they don't kill me on sight.
Bah.
Go find that cook.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432248

>>432232
Hurray.
So uh
How do they look on the 'independence' front?

Koka [Chef] 432249

>>432237
"Hopin' they will start combat when drunk!"
Laugh it up.

Crunch [Knight] 432252

>>432249
"I'm not sure how much better that would be."

Campfire 432260

>>432234
She pulls an empty sack out of your chest.
"Follow me, Master."
She leads you out of the fortress and across the ground covered in new Spring grass, then down the plug and into the new fortress's stone working level. Once there leads leads you to the southern end of a hallway and into a gemcutter's workshop. The bitch working there looks up.
"What?"

>>432217
>>432235
You are in your bed snuggled up against Spring Green who is snuggled up against her colt.

>>432238
"Thank you, mam."
The other slave is a buffalo calf, just as large as a pony but too young to work in the fields. He's shivering. the dogs are all mostly alright, except for the owner of the dead goat who is crying his eyes out. On the ground you can see some rabbit tracks.

>>432244
"We would like to buy as much golden salve as you are willing to spare us."
"A diamond dog we spoke with said you all have nearly two dozen vials ready to sell, and that you have been waiting for the perfect moment to show them off."

>>432248
They've made some large improvements. The zebra and the mare have taken to signing their names on the art they make, and you aren't focus in the most recent of each of their works.

Koka [Chef] 432263

>>432252
"Lemme see what I can do to keep a dog up wid'a clear mind…"
Get up and start walking towards the kitchen.
"Ah, thank'ya for passin' by!"

She cocks her head to the side and Memory speaks, her headdress flashing and sparkling as she does.
"We are here to collect some gems, miss Gemcarver. Small, cut ones. you are supposed to give them to us."
She diamond dog nods her head and starts sweeping all the cut gems that are too small or irregular to make good decoration into the sack Memory gives her. When she is done she gives your zebra back the sack.
"Thank you again, miss diamond dog. I am honored to help yoou help the fortress, as always. Come along, Master."
Memory turns and walks out of the gemmcutter's shop.

>>432273
You are back.
"What'd she want?"

>>432276
They were using melee weapons? I could have sworn I gave them melee weapons.
He sobs something and cradles the goat carcass in his arms as he leaves. The rest of you follow the tracks and find a few lived-in looking rabbit holes.

They agree to most of your prices without much haggling.
"It's been a pleasure doing business with you. Is there anything else you would like to speak to us about?"

Yup. Gotta carve those gems. Gem is with you, helping.

"Hello, Molcoh."
"How'd you like you're taste of steel?"

>>432319
She leads you down to the level you fainted in. You two are the only ones down here.
"White what?"

The unicorn speaks first.
"Cloudtouch. It's a pegasus town the touches a small hill. They export mostly rainbow juice, rainbow dye, and cloud fluff."
The zebra speaks.

"Yes, Master."
Both Sppinel and Luster have been learning slowly but steadily under the tutelage of the diamond dogs who share their crafts.
Quartz is about to move up from Dabbling to Novice, and Copper is halfway through novice.

How old's Luster now? Almost ready to start learning a craft?

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432416

See them out, then go back to my room and put the fancy clothes away. I want to go check on the farmers.

Campfire 432426

You find a few thick logs and cut them into things about as tall as a diamond dog's chest, then affix them to wooden tripods so they will stay standing when hit. Simple, but they should work.

>>432397
She laughs.
"Nonono, Master. It is good for you to worry about that, but this is fine. If these gems were going anywhere they would have been taken by now. It's common sense."

>>432404
That's Gryphon, one of Crunch's gryphons. He eats mice and such that try to get into the food stores, and, rumor has it, cats that hunt on his turf.

You storm back to your empty room, the sounds of life fading away when you close your door.

>>432406
"Very good, Chip. We still have to dig out a layer for the farmers, a small layer above that to irrigate the fields, a layer for woodworkers, and a layer for the seamsters and seamstresses. Once all of that is done we can build a grave level and start the hunt for lava in earnest.:

>>432408
He spoke his first words yesterday. Gem says that he will be ready to start work within the month.

Your fancy clothes are off, replaced by some clothing you don't mind getting dirty. Quill looks up from the bed.

"Ah brought'ya sumething!"

Campfire 432456

You find a runt bitch watching Lorik being angry.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432473

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432474

>>432471
"No. I'm here to discuss planning for Luster's lessons. He'll be nearly ready to begin by the end of the month, so I wanted you, the dog I plan of having him learn from, to have plenty of warning. But if you're busy, we can talk shop later."

Campfire 432476

>>432464
You wander around the dark, quiet, empty place for a while and cannot find anything.

They all cheer when you bring in the training dummies.
"They're great, Boss!"
"No wasted effort this time either."
"Want to train with us?"

>>432469
"Some. I'd say we've got seven bars worth in all this."
"Three bars are already waiting for you."

>>432473
"I will do whatever you ask of me, Mistress."

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432478

>>432426
"Who's Chip?" I scratch my head.

"Anyway, Bark will get to it." I nod at this and head to the farms. Perhaps ask around what digging needs to be done to the farmers.

Kopaz [Doggy Diggy] 432479

Frown and go back empty pawed.

432480

"I can multitask. Continue."

Koka [Chef] 432487

>>432482
Shrug.
"Well, Ah'm good, ya know~"
Grin in pride at him.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432490

>>432476
"Let's introduce you to the farmer chief. Both of us will be receiving lots of orders and requests from him in the future, so try to play nice."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432495

>>432482
"I expect him to be taught to the full extent of your medical knowledge, including the non-magical methods."
>>432487
I'll nod slightly.
"And her slave isn't half bad either."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432501

>>432487
"Looks like. Thank you. This will save a lot of pain."

>>432495
"Don't say that word in my room, Pom. I will teach the pony. Which race is he? Unicorn?"

Koka [Chef] 432505

>>432501
Well, time to leave, he looks busy!

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432507

>>432501
I'll roll my eyes, and gesture to Luster.
"Of course he's a unicorn, and it's a pity you don't recognize him. Do you honestly think I'd try and have you teach magical methods to, say, a donkey or an earth pony?"

Campfire 432513

>>432478
Oops.
There are no farmers down here, but there is a dog working to smooth the walls that have already been dug out.
"Are you here to help out? I need you to dig the south alway long enough to fit five standard sized workshope with a diving wall between each of them, a farming area as long and as wide as the hall, and a small stockpile for seeds to the north of the farm field. Got that?"

>>432480
You hack and slash at the dummies with the rest of your squad, and you can tell that they are glad to finally be training with their leader. After a few hours the training weapon you were using is looking frayed and splintered, and you are just as tired as the others.
"Time for a break, boss?"

>>432490
"Of course, Mistress."
He shuts the door behind the two of you.
"I am ready to leave when you are."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 432520

>>432476
I grin.
"Wonderful. I'll get to using them right away."
I take them back to my forge.
There still are outstanding orders for armor, right?

Crunch [Knight] 432522

>>432513
"I'd say. At this rate, weapons will be next, huh?"

Barkspawn(DD Inq) 432524

>>432513
I scratch my head.
"You want Bark to dig an underground farm? Are we making mushrooms?"

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432525

>>432513
"Let's go. A dog needs to dig, and I for one appreciate not having the roof cave in on me in case anything happens."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432527

>>432507
"I remember him. He has gemmy eyes. And yes, you can teach magic to non-unicorns. But unicorns are better at it. It's also easier."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432544

>>432527
"But, yes, back to the point. He'll be ready to learn next month. And I do want him to learn everything, in an unbiased manner. Your opinions of the other doctor are well known, but in the even something happens to his horn, I want him to still be able to heal."

Campfire 432555

>>432520
Any sort of armor other than shield and helms, yes. There are also orders for billon figurines and toys hammered to a wooden plank on the wall over three bins full of billon bars.

>>432522
"Hmm? Oh, we only practice with these. It's all fun and games until somedog gets his leg mangled or his paw cut off."

>>432524
He laughs.
"No, our plants are hardy things. All they need to grow is a bit of muddy rock. Speaking of muddy rock, there is going to be a small later above the farms for the bucket brigade that will irrigate these fields. I've still not been told if we are replacing the ceiling with metal grates or if there will be stone walkways for them instead."

>>432525
"I know what you mean, Mistress."
He follows you up and out of the dirt fortress and up to the farms above the fortress. You can see some diamond dogs with with copper blades cutting down tall, segmented, wooden stalks. There are also a few buffalo helping to dig up potatoes while the gryphon watches closely as a diamond dog tends to a bee stung buffalo's nose.

"Carry these for me, Master? You are oh so much stronger than I am. I cannot waste my energy carrying things if I am supposed to follow you around and help you to remember."

Lorik [Doc dog] 432791

I'll be on stand-by for now.

Campfire 432797

"Count gem. I will get us some food and drink."
She leaves room and shuts the door behind her.

>>432777
The three of you sit back and watch them practice, you perhaps watching one of them more than the others. Poet is good. Most of her arrows all land in one clump on her tree with only a few outliers and a couple of misses. Her skill compared tothe other four is about average.

>>432787
"If Mistress wishes to I will not object."
He picks up a berry slowly, as if unsure he should be doing this, but his face lights up once he bites into it.
"This is very good, Mistress. Do you eat like this all the time?"

>>432797
But there's always room for improvement. Still, impressive shots.

Aidi E'betting [Negotiator] 432830

>>432797
"Don't get too used to it. It takes a while to grow. Help me help the farmers get what they need, and you might find some very grateful dogs giving you enough of them to eat for days."

Carry on working the fields.
Gotta step out of the game for today, thanks for running.

Crunch [Knight] 432840

>>432817
"Very good. If you're running them out I might need to expand your posting."

Campfire 432846

>>432815
A few minutes later you hear a thump outside your door and it opens.
"Master, can you help me with all these barrels before another diamond dog takes them?"
She rolls a barrel of what smells like sweetpod rum into your room with her nose.

>>432825
They keep on shooting, this time trying to land shots in eachother's clusters.

It's slow going as you have to stop and check you aren't going to far while digging at first, but after an hour you get the hang of it and are able to finish the rest of the farm room.
"Good work. Now the seed room and I think you're done for the day."

>>432874
"Because it's food and drink sitting in the middle of the hallway. Both of us would do exactly the same, Master. There's some fresh meat for you in one of them, Master. Still nice and juicy."

>>432877
Yep, you made two sets of five. At the trade depot you can find ponies and zebras starting to pack p their wares.
"What can we do for you, sir? Some food and drink? Maybe a nice vest?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 432901

>>432883
"I never was much for flattery, but you're better than at least half of the other dogs."
I'll shrug.
"Besides, having room to improve means that you'll never lack something to do. And besides…"
I'll scratch the side of my nose.
"You hit the mark when it counts."

Campfire 432903

"Poet, I'm guessing you're going to be spending the lunch break with your little brother?"
"Eat me, Stake."
The four of them laugh and leave, taking their weapons and ammunition with them.

While digging you make sure to minimize the entrances into the room without disturbing the future workflow, and in addition to this you carve shelves into the walls for seed bags so they will not need to rest of the floor. The other diamond dog pokes his head into the room and looks at the shelves.
"Why is it always you dig dogs that come up with the simplest, smartest ideas? Anyways, good work. Enjoy the rest of the day."

The seed room is perfectly made. You go into the farm room and start smothing the floor while carving small microchannels for water and roots to run through."

>>432932

You think so? You were paying more attention to Ard than the farmers, but he sort of looks familiar.
"Ah. You her brother or something?"

>>432944
"Rodents, lizards, and a bushwoolie I threw in the dump. I hope you don't mind but I sold his knife to the smiths for some diamond dog food."

"For all those figurines we could get you twenty four socks or twelve copper horseshoes."

I consider it an accomplishment that I've never made that mistake before.

You spot a deer grazing in the distance.

"Of course I think so, Master. We can fly like pegasi, are strong like earth ponies, and can manipulate small objects like unicorns. We are the ideal slave. By my count you will need two, plus one more if you can find and talk to the owner of the last one."

>>433028

Now what to do.
Perhaps check out the fortress, see if the traps that I made are in well order and in good condition. Is the drawbridge functioning? What parts of the fort needs more defenses.
Also how is the bushwooly situtation?

You walk away before any can spill out of your vest. Halfway back to the trade depot you see Lorik.

>>433046
"Alright. Are your slaves coming too?"

>>433052
The drawbridge is functioning, but the walkway of death could use a few spike traps on it, and the ground below could use some more cage traps. The bushwoolies have some sort of magic that tricks the traps into letting them pass, but as of yet none have been able to make it this far without being seen and chased off or killed.

Campfire 433057

Oh, and your traps and the drawbridge are all fine.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 433062

"Yes, Master."
They leave. Poet leads you to a shallow pound surrounded by trees out of sight of the fortress entrance.
"What do you think?"

They nod and carry off the deer. You follow your instincts and eventually find a pond. The water is dark, however. and Inside is swimming a large, pale fish. A flash of pure terror grips your soul, you know not why, until you realize it is a blind thing washed up from some underground river. You easily grab it out of the water and skewer it on a bolt.

>>433123
Green looks up.
"Did you need me, Master?"
