Previously, on Cute Quest:

Miss Cheerilee needed a helper, since Brynn fell sick with a cold, and the random hand of fate pulled your number from the hat of students.

You were helping her grade papers when you noticed something amiss with Sweetie Belle's homework assignment; All the answers had been erased, save for a few wrong answers written in afterward.

Deciding the root of this problem needed to be brought into the light, you embarked on an investigation at Miss Cheerilee's request.

What you turned up proved to be more than you bargained for.

Diamond Tiara was bribing Apple Bloom into sabotaging other classmates homework. For what purpose, only Diamond Tiara can say. Perhaps she did it to exercise the power of money, and the exploitation of Apple Bloom's burning desire to help her family.

In the end the plan was revealed, parents were called, punishments and apologies were dished out, and Apple Bloom had a lot to think about.

But you promised you'd be there for her every step of the way, giving her a hug and trying to comfort your friend.

The more material reward was a bag of crazy good candy from Miss Cheerilee. She couldn't thank you enough and made sure your parents heard of your good deeds, though she couldn't tell them the specifics. And it was only your first day as her helper.

The rest of your time as Miss Cheerilee's helper was rather quiet, nopony in the class wanting to stir up any trouble after the rumors began to fly.

But it's been a couple weeks since then. Things have calmed down, your classmates resuming their normal activities and Apple Bloom putting the ordeal behind her one day at a time. You've grown closer to her as a result of the whole mess, spending time with her after school to refine ideas of things that might help Big Mac and Applejack take care of the farm with less effort. Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle help sometimes, but it's usually just the two of you, idling the time away with drawings and laughing at some of the sillier ones. It's good, productive fun.

It's a fresh fall morning when you walk to school today, waving at classmates as you head into the schoolhouse, unpacking your bag in the classroom as Apple Bloom and Scootaloo talk to you excitedly about this years talent show.

"It should be happening soon, we had it about this time last year," Apple Bloom says excitedly, "I can't wait! There's a whole lot of things we haven't tried to earn our cutie marks with."

"You sure about that? I thought we hit just about everything," Scootaloo muses.

She's about to continue when Miss Cheerilee calls for everyone's attention, and everyone heads back to their seats for the day's lessons.

Half the classroom groans, the other half whisper excitedly.

And then, Miss Cheerilee makes the announcement that causes your eyes to bulge.

"And this year, the girls will be making the outfits, the boys will be modeling them!"

What?

I'll let you pick who you want to work with, so long as you promise to get along and work together to make something really special!"

The proverbial floodgates open, ponies jumping from their chairs and dashing around the room to stand beside the colt or filly they hope to work with.

You jump from your own chair, wondering who you should pair up with.

"I'm glad you think so."

One of Sweetie's ears twitches a little as she blushes, about to say something before the two of you nearly walk into the side of a building.

Sweetie isn't so lucky, actually bopping her nose on the door, while you manage to stop a mere hair from the window in front of you.

Seems you've arrived.

You back up to take a look at the building while Sweetie rubs her nose, letting out a gentle whimper, "Oooow…."

It's blue, purple, pink, with a variety of designs and what appear to be carousel ponies near the top.

You note that it's mostly clean, with the odd pile of fabric here or a mannequin in half completed clothing there. There are colors and designs all around, so much so that you can't tell where the workspace begins or ends. It's just one continuous circle of projects.

"Sweetie Belle! What have I told you about bouncing around my boutique!"

A white unicorn with a beautifully curled purple mane steps forward from behind a pony mannequin, removing her red glasses and letting them hang at the end of a necklace against her chest as she looks at you.

"Oh! Hello there, I didn't see you. Sweetie, is this a friend of yours?"

Sweetie Belle gives her sister a strange look.

You rub a hoof against your left leg nervously under Rarity's compliments. You've never been complimented by such a pretty mare before….

"Th-thank you, Miss Rarity."

"Now now, dear. Just Rarity will suffice," she says with a smile, "A friend of Sweetie's is a friend of mine. So, what brings you to my boutique?"

"We have a school fashion show," Sweetie explains, making Rarity's eyes light up as she inhales deeply with excitement.

"And you came to your big sister for help! Of course, of course, I'd be happy to help the two of you. And if you're wearing a design of mine, everypony will see it and want one for their own little fillies! Oh it's brilliant!"

Sweetie Belle coughs gently, "N-no, we have to design one ourselves. I just thought maybe you'd let us work here and maybe be….an advisor, kind of?"

She smiles at her older sister as Rarity deflates a little.

"Oh. Well. I suppose that will do. You can use that corner of the work room over there," she says, using her magic to move a set of mannequins out of the way, "I'll be working over here if you need me. Just try not to make too large a mess, okay?"

Sweetie Belle promises and the two of you head to the cleared out space, Rarity sliding small assortments of fabric after you for your use.

"But, I don't want to make it seem like I'm above him or anything," Sweetie mumbles, "He's my friend. Besides, I think we'd look better as a pair instead of different things."

Rarity is silent, and though you can't see her since she's behind you, you think you can feel her smiling at her sister.

"Well, if you'll be my Princess, I'll be your Prince," you say confidently, your heart beating a little faster as you think about Sweetie in a pretty dress.

Sweetie Belle lets out a small cheer, perhaps oblivious to what you're hinting at or just powering through it with sheer enthusiasm.

"It'll be great! I'll be in a cute dress, and you'll be in…what is it boys wear to big, royal events? Suits? Those things with coat tails?"

"Yes, Sweetie. Tuxedos. Or Suits. Or a uniform if they're in the Royal Guard. Or just something really dapper looking," Rarity calls out from her work station.

"Either way," Sweetie says, "This is going to be great! You'll look great and we'll totally win! Now, what colors do you want yours to be? You're kinda…..beige. What colors go good with that and black?"

Rarity takes your measurements rather quick, keeping you from getting too nervous about her soft hooves on your tiny frame.

You head home for the night since Sweetie says there's nothing else for you to do.

You return the next day to find a not so bad looking tuxedo in the colors you asked for set up on a pony mannequin of about your size.

That was….quick.

You look around for Sweetie Belle, and are surprised to find her fast asleep, face down at a small work bench with her hooves stretched out in front of her.

You nearly jump out of your skin at someone touching your back, and turn about to find Rarity standing behind you. She puts a hoof in front of her mouth and motions you to an adjoining room.

"She stayed up all night working on your little tuxedo," she says when you're out of danger of waking Sweetie, "I don't think I've seen her work so hard on anything before. It must really mean a lot to her, winning this fashion show."

The first thing you do is try on the tux, Rarity helping you slide your wings through a pair of little holes in the back.

"There! I know how uncomfortable it is for you pegasi to have your wings trapped under some garment," her tone briefly turns dour, "Believe me. I know."

She has you turn about once or twice, then walk the length of the small room the two of you are in to see how it feels.

It's….comfortable. The coat tails aren't long enough for you to trip on, the chest section is snug without being too restricting, and the collar is short enough it doesn't rub your chin and make it itch.

Has Sweetie done this sort of thing before? Because it's pretty nice.

"I think you look dashing, if I do say so myself," Rarity gushes, "I dare say if you were just a bit older the mares would be all over you."

<If you accept, the quality of the dress will be guaranteed to be no lower than "Good" quality, and the time it takes to make will be reduced exceptionally.

Alternatively you can make it completely by yourself, though the time it takes and the quality they are will be determined by skill rolls. This one will hold more sentimental value, but is much more easily messed up.>

Each set of rolls will use half of a day. You can stay up late to make a third roll on one day, but it will cause you to only have one roll the day after since you have to recuperate.

Going a third time in one day will also incur negative modifiers to your overall score due to being really tired, unless you make a will roll to do really well.

It is Tuesday in Ponyville. The talent show is Saturday morning. School has effectively been cancelled so that students can put everything they can into the project.

An epiphany strikes in how to create the frills, and suddenly you've got the first set finished. They look…..plain. Good, but plain. It matches the torso very well.

At this rate you won't get your cutie mark for sewing, but at least it's presentable.

Rarity has returned from the adjoining room, looking at your second batch of frills. She seems impressed.

"I see you figured out how to get them naturally bendy like that. Did you look at a diagram somewhere, or figure it out on your own?"

You tell her you figured it out yourself, and her eyebrows raise in pleasant surprise.

"Perhaps you have a knack for this. Or the knack of learning through mistakes. Either way, it looks alright."

You wipe the sweat from your brow and lean back to get a kink out of your back from leaning over the torso and frill sections for so long. You hold each piece up and look at it, finding yourself pleasantly surprised with the end result.

Even Rarity compliments you on how well it looks, saying "That's much better than anything I've seen from someone your age. Especially for a young colt! Well done, Puff, well done."

She sets the outfit up on a mannequin, taking a long look at it in the setting sun's light that spills through the front windows. The trim reflects a tiny bit of light thanks to some reflective material mixed in with the standard stuff, the product of some natural ingenuity that struck you.

"Well done indeed."

You yawn, determining it's time for you to head home. Rarity shows you to the door, waving as you head home for the day.

A hat can compliment or wreck an outfit, so extra care should be taken to ensure it works well. Rarity gives you a design she thinks will go well with a frilly dress, suitably avoiding the cone shaped princess hat for a more modern, balanced hat. It's a hard to mess up design, which reduces your chance of botching it, but makes it tougher to improve past average when you don't really know what you're doing.

Rarity is now sitting beside you as you struggle to convince yourself to continue. The only thing that turned out right the first time was the trim, and it's so frustrating to keep making poor quality things. How does Rarity do it?

A monument, you think, to how you just….couldn't.

Rarity comes back to your side as you cry, trying to soothe you.

"Now now, it's alright. You did just fine for your first try, don't be sad. Many ponies your age can hardly wear a set of clothes like this properly, let alone make one. You should be proud! The fact it looks like it could be purchased at a store is an accomplishment not to be taken lightly."

Through her kind words and a little bit of time, you eventually calm down. Rarity gives you a handkerchief to wipe your eyes with, though you refrain from blowing your nose in it.

She gives you a reassuring smile as you hand it back to her, before patting you on the head and gently stroking one of your ears.

Sweetie Belle is in her outfit, eyes wide and almost sparkling with delight as she stands on her hind legs and twirls, giggling constantly. The frills splay out a little, and for a moment you worry they'll fall apart.

They hold, and as she comes back to rest on four hooves you heave a sigh of relief.

"Puff!"

Sweetie Belle is on you, quick as a flash, her tiny hooves wrapped around you tight enough to pinch your wings and cause you shortness of breath as she spouts "Thank you" in a continuous stream.

Sweetie doesn't stop bouncing around. If anything, her pace only increases as she says thank you once more as you get dressed. She finally takes a breath to say, "I think it's the dress though. It's so beautiful!"

Hearing her say it puts your mind at rest. You think she's just pulling it off well, but it means a lot to hear it from her.

'Speaking of', you think, looking around the group of murmuring students in varying levels of clothing, 'where is Apple Bloom?'

Probably someone butthurt because we were talking about developments in mlpg and figured linking it in other threads would damage the game.

Don't be sad, just think of it as a chance to get as much cuteness in the remaining week as possible

I'm just worried we won't be able to catch the eye of Mayor Mare at this rate

Nah man, there are plenty of others who can write things for you. Cute things, smutty things, all the things I've written in the past 6 months, I'm sure there are those willing and able to surpass those things.

I just hope I've repaid the laughter and feels I've received over the years from you guys. You all deserve that much.

The only problem spots right now are Syria and Iran. We don't have to worry about Syria because Assad will drop sarin gas on his people and get the world's collective boot shoved up his ass long before Aspirant is ready to start flying around and killing brown people.

Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.

And I'm going to be a linguist, not a pilot.

Not a pilot? But that's the funnest part.

Will you get to ride in aircraft?

I almost wish I was signing up so I could see all of those.
