You are just about to leave the town nearest the castle. Its early in the morning, and while your party isn't the only one who knows about the artifact its certainly the earliest arrival so far.

Should we wait for another post or just start talking with each other?

I dunno. I guess we should wait a little.

The town is a small quiet place, they never thought much of the castle, and don't believe anything is actually there. In any case they pointed you in the direction of an old path. The path its self it covered with large weeds and vines, and looks like only wild animals have used it recently. You party stand in front of this path.

Rolling to Locate any dangers along the path.

Rolled 3 = 3

So are we all just fellow travelers are is this our first time together?

I stride boldly forward through the path.
"Time to let the light shine into this den of evil."

"So, I heard that there are some mighty loot in the castle, are you guys ready to check the town out? We could get some info." I looked at the party that I am in with.

"Stay behind me, friends. Who knows who else is trying to hurry to the castle"
Keep my shield up and walk down the path

"It would be good to know as much as possible."

I follow Parfait at the back, he looks like confident enough to brave it.

"If we go back to the town for info another group may beat us to the treasure."

You can't see anything unusual. The area is full of rocky hills and grass covered you seem to feel right at home.
The path is winding and it leads up and down several times. You bump your hooves a few times on rocks but nothing serious.

that's up to you really.

"All right then, lets go the town everybody!!"

We proceeded to the town.

I fly in front of her.
"Wait you silly goat, do you want to loose the treasure? By the time we get back it may be gone"

"T…Town? You can go if you want! Don't expect any share of what we find!"
Examine our location. How far from the castle are we?

Rolled 8 = 8

I think the majority is for just charging in. I agree with them.

"As good as it would be to know more, time is of the essence."

I'll follow Parfait across the pathway. Goats are pretty sure-footed.

The Town's welcome sign is faded, "Welcome to Stone Hop" it says, there are several shops, an Inn, and residential areas. There are some ponies milling about.

"So, is it town or castle?" I look at the party

We started at the town, townspeople pointed us to the path to the castle, and we went back to the town then?

"Castle! We should really hurry."

There is a big hill up ahead, and by standing on the top of a rock you can see the top the castle. It seems to be a hop skip and jump away.

I think so.

I fly up and try to Locate anything that might be a threat to us.

Rolled 10 = 10

"Castle then." I follow the group

I take out my oil can and start applying a bit of it to my armor joints while waiting for Hopscotch

I pray to the sun for protection while in the dark den of iniquity and shame.

Rolled 1 = 1

I thought for a moment you were going to split up or something
You fly above the group and you can see the lay of land much clearer. You seem a hooded figure on the road behind the party, they seem to be following just far enough behind you that you would have missed them if you were on the ground. There is also a group of mountain lions up the path, they seem to be going home with the spoils from a hunt.

I fly back down and tell the group what I saw.

You prayers are answered by a a dark cackle, "Sorry, the princess is out."

"So we have company behind us and ahead of us… I think we should rush ahead."
I start down the way to the castle

I turn behind us and shout, "We see you, stalker! Explain yourself immediately!"

Rolled 9 = 9

"I see"

Seeing what he has done. "YEAH WE'RE NOT AFRAID!"

…and then turn around back to the celestial. I'm not leaving party members behind without my protection!

Your shout reaches the ears of your stalker scaring whoever it is, they shout back in a voice like a bark "I do not have to explain myself to you, you are the one trespassing." The stalker doesn't come any closer though.

I fly up to where I can get a good view of the figure and load my crossbow with a flat headed bolt.

I shot at it.
"Where do you live?"

"And whose land are we trespassing on?!"
I stand in front of the others with my shield up

"So if they come near, are we going to jump them?" I whispered to the party.

The figure comes closer to you, his hood is still covering his face.
"You aren't from the little pony town are you? My family the Long bolts, have lived on these hills for years, surely you would have known this?"

"Of course not!"

"We have never heard of you, nor your family, stranger. We're here on a quest of great virtue, to recover a relic of much power."

"We are from out of town."

"I'm just here to make sure we get to the castle safely. I assume that belongs to your family too?"

"Well, that makes more sense, but still you-"
He pauses at this "Do you mean to tear up this land in search of your treasure?"
"Ah, the castle, my family holds no claim on that place.. you can feel free to go there if you desire."

"We mean to stay in the castle. What do you know of it?"

"…to stay in the castle and cleanse it of evil."

"And that's precisely what we desire!"
I start to back up, keeping my shield between us and the stranger
"Now if you'll excuse us…"

"What do you know about the castle?"

He laughs and lets his hood slide off. He has white fur and black stripes and a braided mane. He smiles at you with bright blue eyes. "The castle has been abandoned for years, its probably falling apart now. However.. it is said a great team of magic users once resided there."

To you he nods, "you'll get there in a few hours by this place, be careful of the lions."

"Oooh, nice to meet you, I'm snowgrass. Who are you?" I approach the zebra

its a zebra right

"What was so great about them? And do you know a way there that doesn't involve hungry cats scratching at my armor?"

"The armored goat is right. Is there another path or should we blaze our own trail?"

he looks suspicious of you, but nods. "I'm Dameon Long Bolt."

"I know many paths, but I have no reason to share them.." He looks at you, sizing up your strength, and takes a step back.

I frown at him.
"Are you this nice to everyone you meet, or do you just really like us?"

"I command you in the name of the sun and the ancestor spirits to aid in our holy quest!"
I strike my spear on the ground and strike a commanding pose.

Rolled 4 = 4

He narrows his eyes at you. "I'm not here to be your personal tour guide."
"I do not care for such matters, you have no authority over me. Just move along. " He seems a little angry at you now.

"I don't want any trouble. Just a safe path, if you please."
I huff and try to look intimidating

Rolled 6 = 6

"Dayum man, dont force him." I looked at Ulinzi.

"I may have no authority over you, but your ancestors do! If you do not aid us, they will surely curse you and all your family."

Rolled 2 = 2

"Well, I don't want you here any longer you have to be, its proven to be quite the hassle following you already.." He walks past you and cuts down some tall weeds to reveal a faster path. "This should get you there before the lions come back."
He bursts out laughing at your outrageous claim. "Please, be serious about this. My family would only be upset at me for not having evaded your detection. "

"Thank you… as much as I would like to hear about these magic users, I'd rather get a move on. Ponies who no longer live there are of no concern to me"
Hurry down the freshly cut path

For some reason a yellow flag was raised in my imagination. So I try to percieve if what the zebra told us is true.

rolling sense motive if he lies about safe path

Rolled 9 = 9

His motive seems to be selfish, you can tell he is hiding something, but its not about this path.
he watches you leave in silence. The path is indeed much faster and you can see the castle up a head.

Follow Parfait down the path.

File: 1348719408512.jpg (30.28 KB, 550x500, Snowgrass22.jpg)

"I think guys, that we need to be extra careful from now on. I mean that zebra is bad news." I told them as I go along the path with the rest.

"His lack of respect for our holy mission is suspicious."

"Don't worry. I won't let him or anyone else hurt us"

"And I shall not allow us to fail!"

The path comes to an end without a hitch. You are now in front of the castle. It quite tall and wide. The stone is crumbling in a few parts, and vines seem to be covering the walls. From here you can see that this is the highest hill around, its a wonderful vantage point, what could have caused it to be abandoned? The air feels a little different when you get closer to the castle.

"Welp, I mean thanks." I look down blushing.

I then look and see where the path leads us too.

I keep my shield up and look around. What's the outside of this castle look like?

Rolled 5 = 5

And guess what Snow, we are here.

"So, it is quite old." I said the obvious to the group.

The outside of the castle is made of stone, there are vines growing up through it and in some places all you can see are vines. Oddly there are some untouched statues of guard ponies. The have identical gear; a mighty long sword in one hoof, and a shield bearing the old symbol of magic, and traditional bronze armor. There are 4 in total around the entrance.

I try to locate anything fishy about the statues.

Rolled 10 = 10

I make my way to the entrance, tapping one of the statues with my shield to make sure they're just normal statues

"You got that right…"

Rolled 9 = 9

Seeing him glare at the statue intensely, I hold Hopskotch in the shoulder. "Whoa man.. are'nt you taking this way too seriously?"

"This is serious, goat friend!"

The statues are all unicorns, and each have a phrase at their base.
"To learn is to live."
"Theory with out practice is just a dream."
"Where one treads one plants the seeds of their life."
"Life is short, but knowledge is forever."
They look as if they could have been made yesterday.

In addition to that you feel as if they are watching you. a voice says in your head "do you seek the wisdom of old?"
You also read the phrases, and notice that they are all unicorns, and look brand new.

"These are awfully new looking statues for a place that's supposed to be long abandoned…"
I walk up to the castle entrance and check the door for anything funny

Rolled 4 = 4

You check out the door like any goat would, by head butting it. It doesn't budge, and feel like a solid wood.

"That's not how you check, goat friend!"
I check for a lock or knob or something.

Rolled 5 + 1 = 6

What does it cost to learn?

"Yep.. it's a door!"
I pat my helmet

Also, rolling to see how cute of a goat I am

Rolled 6 = 6

What am I doing?

"Well now." I then look at the door, seeing that Ulinzi is already checking it out, I sat and wait.

You're a pretty darn cute goat.
There is a handle on the door it looks like it would be heavy to open but not locked from the outside anyway.
"to learn is to live, the cost isn't much you see. You just have to find us.."

Well let's open this sumbitch up.

Open the door and look around for traps and such.

Rolled 5 + 1 = 6

Investigating an old castle for a powerful relic, they are right outside of it, you can just walk in behind them for fastness.

Follow in and try to take the lead with my shield up. Also look for dangers too

Rolled 9 = 9

Open the door.

Rolled 7 = 7

The door opens with some effort, you can feel some lingering magic, and there are two more statues this time of unicorn mages, one with a frost staff and one with a fire staff.
You all see the same statues and as soon as you walk in you hear something crash behind you. A mean looking circle of spikes almost hit you.

"Gah! Keep your eyes peeled my friends, and stay behind me. Better I set off a trap than one of you"
Inspect the statue with the frost staff

Rolled 9 = 9

"Mmm. This place has quite an attitude."

Inspect for more danger.

Rolled 9 = 9

"Do not worry, goat friend! I am more than capable of taking care of myself."

Inspect the circle of spikes.

Rolled 10 + 1 = 11

I follow the others in.
"I think we have to find four more statues identical to the ones outside."
Sorry for taking so long. I'm trying to draw.

The statue lights up when you get close. It definitely has the residue of a magic, perhaps some very clever mage enchanted. the words on this one are in an unreadable language.
Past the mage statues there are stairs leading up, and two doors. You see a small switch on the floor near the statues that would have triggered some kind of trap.
The spike circle is like a chandelier but instead of candles it has spikes, lots of spikes. You are able to collect some of the chains for later use.

"What do we have here, now?"

Take them. [s] got to go now

Rolled 7 = 7

I try to locate any more traps without setting them off.

Rolled 8 = 8

"I don't suppose anyone can read this gibberish huh?"
Inspect the statue with the fire staff while keeping my shield up

Rolled 10 = 10

not sure what you rolled for, but see you later
The fire mage's staff glows and lights up the room. It also has an unreadable inscription.
There aren't any more traps, but the statues are both glowing.

The statues now both active their staffs glowing and their expression changed. you can all hear a voice "DO YOU WISH TO FACE THE CHALLENGE OF ELEMENTS?"

"Hmm… do you guys think that zebra will follow us? I feel he is the stalker type dont you think?" I then look outside the door.

I swap my flat headed bolt out for a regular vote.
"Bring it."

The statues outside are just as they were, and you don't see anything unusual.

"Is that a threat, whoever you are?!"
Keep my shield up

"Gaahh…" I look at the statues, with me being startled, I then ready my bow and arrow.

A visible glowing of magic swirls around the room and each person in the party. Two fire elementals and an ice elemental form before the party. They look at you and laugh "We have never been called before such brutes." the throw a ball of fire or ice respectively at you. Roll to dodge.

I try to jump out of the way as fast as I can with my thick armor on

Rolled 4 = 4

I dodge with some graceful aerial maneuvers.

Rolled 3 = 3

"Oh what the hay!" I try to dodge even if it is aimed at me or not and then…

Rolled 2 = 2

Fire an arrow at the enemy elementals.

Rolled 5 = 5

Its hits you, you feel the ice chill your armor, but but the fire ball hits your shield.
You cloak catch on fire and you have to take it off, you manage to put it out and save most the cloak. You feel a little numb from the cold -1 next roll.
Your arrow lands in a fire elemental's flame body. it burst into flames before doing any damage.

Slam into an ice elemental!

Rolled 3 = 3

I fire at an elemental's limb and try to cripple it.
Crippling Shot.

Rolled 4 + 1 = 5

You failed to dodge and have both a freezing cold spot and burn take one wound

I procure my violin and try to inspire to inspire my comrades with songs about berries and wine.

Rolled 9 = 9

You missed and blocked hop scotch's attack with your armor.
The arrow was flying true despite your cold hooves, but bounces off parfait's armor.
Despite the chill in your bones your play a heart warming song.

everyone has a +1 this turn.

Rolled 8 + 3 = 11

Try to slam an ice elemental again

Rolled 1 + 1 = 2

I continue with my antics and play with my violin. I then try to position myself at the back of the party to avoid attacks.

Rolled 9 = 9

You dodge the fire and ice blasts that were coming your way, and you hit the center of one of the fire elementals with a fierce arrow. It falls apart into smoke, chanting "You have bested but one.. you are not worthy yet."
The ice elemental catches you with a full blast of cold, you get a frost burn under your armor. one wound.
You song is so lovely that the elementals forget they were even supposed to attack you for a moment.
Everyone has a +2 now.

I target the other fire elemental and aim for its head.

Rolled 2 + 2 = 4

I raise my shield and protect Hopcotch from damage

Rolled 10 + 4 = 14

"welp…" I then raise the bar and continue with the performance, hoping that it will inspire my friends into greater heroics.

Rolled 7 = 7

the elements moves out of the way and tries to attack you again, but
You cover all the damage with your shield, not a single bit of their magic gets past you. You even manage to reflect one of the fire balls into the ice elemental that was picking on you.
you continues to impress, the party is now full of life, and singing along to your tune. (+3 now)

I try to cripple the fire elemental.

Rolled 4 + 5 = 9

Rolled 3 + 3 = 6

Smiling with the song that I am creating, I continue with the performance.

Rolled 5 = 5

The Fire elemental takes an arrow in a weak point, and struggles to remove it.
You slam into it while its struggling and its flames seem to be struggling to stay up.
doesn't the bonus count for you too?

I know it does not count to the bard or otherwise it would be OP

I shoot the ice elemental.

Rolled 3 = 3

Slam the same Fire elemental

Rolled 10 = 10

thank you
You keep playing the tune, but you've run out of lyrics that match. bonus ends.

"Haha, lets do this." I revealed my bow and arrow and shot one at the ice elemental.

Rolled 2 = 2

The ice elemental dodges and take the opportunity to counter attack your leather armor catches it this time, but its quite chilly.
The fire elemental collapses under your weight, it turns into smoke and leaves nothing behind.
The ice elemental counter attacks and knocks you down, your hoof stuck to the ground with ice.

"Kya!: I drop the bow and began chipping off the ice using my trusty dagger.

Rolled 7 = 7

I shoot it again.

Rolled 8 = 8

"Keep it up!"
Slam the nearest elemental

Rolled 7 = 7

It falls apart easily. leaving you free to move about.
The ice elemental takes a pretty good hit that time, and a chunk of it falls off.
You slam into the elemental and the remaining bit of it are shattered. The ice melts away to nothing but a pool of water, which then evaporates abnormally fast.

the two statues light up again and a small chest appears between them.

I fly down and open the chest.

"Good job all around!"
I give my shield a celebratory tap

"Whew, that is some serious stuff there."

I then stand guard, being wary and looking if someone is hiding in the shadow and is just waiting for us to slay the beast.

"Well, you guys check the chest, I watch."

Rolled 7 = 7

The chest opens, and a light comes out of it. There are the following items: A scroll of paper, a large crystal key, and a small crystal ball.

You see a shadow, you think, it might have been a trick of the light, or something in the room making a shadow because of the crazy magic lights in here.

I take the scroll of paper and read it

Anything written on the paper?

The paper reads "Congratulations on your victory, these items will make your trip faster and more exciting. The orb can be used many ways. Though each way by each person only once. If you know the words to speak to it you can go to the lock the key is for, but cautious what you do once there. "
