It's really good. So good, in fact, that you lose yourself a little, too, and end up perhaps not eating quite as gracefully as you would have liked, but none of the nobles seem to have paid attention.

And she replied, 'I have a poultice that could save him, but I do not care for the master, who did not favor me with his affections. If you favor me with yours tonight – just this night alone – I will save your master's life. You can continue your studies under him, and become a greater mage for it when you succeed him…
I pause now my story to pose a question to you, Borders. The Apprentice in this story is posed a dilemma by the Shew. He could choose the early gratification of the touch of a woman, but the delayed gratification of a better education and late inheritance. In this choice, he would prove his loyalty to his master's life, but not his duty to his master's wishes. Alternatively, he could deny the Shrew, and prove his duty to his master's wishes, and in return, receive his inheritance – and the power and rank that the Mage's tower commanded – tomorrow. I wonder, were you in this situation, which would you choose? And which do you think the Apprentice chose?

His master did continue the boy's education for the next year, and in that time, the Apprentice never saw the Shrew. She had gone into hiding, he supposed, and though his Master had survived, he grew frail and weak as a result of the illness that he had never truly overcome. At the end of this year and two months, the Master summoned the Apprentice to his chambers, and there he waited with a stern face. He addressed his Apprentice, 'I know that you had laid with this woman who was my consort and you had disobeyed my wishes.' The Apprentice did plead, 'Yes, but how did you know?' And he said, 'You have a son.' And he did reveal the Shrew and a foal, no more than three months.
