PirateQuest: Chapter 2.9: Heads Will Roll Wf+6 326950

You are inside the Merchants' Guild bank. The teller's desks have just been toppled by two hulking Lesser Treasury Golems, now bearing down on you.
Door Integrity: 50%
Crowd Control: 50%

Light Heart [Warlord] 326959

>>326950
Miss Rosemary and I are going to step back and keep our distance.

Any guards left alive that I could throw into the battle?

Felfire [Necromancer] 326960

"Hey guys, help me out. Take the dead bodies and spread them over the hall."
Do so, then turn to the crowd.
"See them? They can go boom as soon as I think of it! So don't dare make any move!"

Wf+6 326961

>>326959
You only killed one of the six guards.

Those dumb unicorns healed the rest of them.

WhiteShield(Female Uni Crusader) 326963

>>326960
I stick close and nod to Felfire's threat.

Summer Seas [Cleric] 326964

Wf+6 326968

>>326966
The treasury golems collide at first, knocking one of them over, but the second one manages to grab you by the throat and throw you against a wall.

You are helpless.

I shake my head and walk up to the guards
"You. All of you. Do you wish to die today? No? Good, join me then. Unless you want to be turned into a ticking timebomb by miss Felfire."

Lesser Treasury Golems share a size category with you. You can get cestus combat training, but you don't have it currently.

Nonetheless you get a good, solid blow on one of the golems.

>>326993
Frozen blasts issue from your gun and hit the torso of the Lesser Treasury Golem. Not the most useful place to freeze, but it did something at least.

Crit range extended.

>>326988
All of them look very insulted. Also you tied all of them up last session.

Your chat does give the golem time to lumber over behind you and take a swing, though. '1d10+3'

The other golem attempts to get up. 'r2 1d10'

Bonus at +0.

>>327034
You get in another solid hit. It's looking very worn.

>>327031
A beautifully aimed shot that misses because the ground shakes at the last minute. It's shaking because there's a big golem sprinting to you. It knocks you out of the way as it charges by, for one hit.

>>327030
She turns and replies, "Sorry!"

Just in time to get trampled by the golem as well. '1d10'

She's your pet, you get to make rolls for her.

You get in one absolutely beautiful shot, but it swipes at you as you misfire the other, for two hits.

>>327088
>>327094
Felfire would have taken a big hit if Chip didn't dive in front. He's looking a little worse for the wear, with three hits left, but between Felfire's zombie and his cudgel, the golem collapses.

The golem tears into the two of you, grabbing each of you in one hand and slamming you at full force into each other. In addition to Emrille being wounded once and helpless, Chip being wounded twice and helpless, you also take some embarrassment damage over all of that awkward bodily contact. Okay, maybe the awkwardness is diffused when you're bleeding everywhere.

>>327129
You safely get her out of harm's way. She won't be a target for the golems until she engages again.

>>327131
You get in a very solid hit, but miss a great timing for a leg joint. What a close miss!

Rosemary groans at the order. Based on the way her skull is not its proper shape, you're not sure if you can complain.

>>327130
>>327128
You should specify if you're attacking the downed one of the up one. I'll assume you're swinging at the up one. It collapses again. Looks like it doesn't have much fight left.

Miss Rosemary is feeling great! You wish you could say the same as you are punishingly smashed aside. Helpless.

>>327191
He gives you a kick and you topple, but roll out of it. Two hits left.

>>327178
Your zombie is not in good shape. You don't think he'll survive another hit. Fortunately, you get in a solid one yourself. This thing looks like it's about to fall over, and it's in much worse shape than its companion.

>>327188
It still has enough gusto to kick you while you're down, though. You take another two wounds, leaving you with two.

Wf+6 327417

>>327408
The better part of the room is filled with dignitaries who look positively terrified of you.

"Look, I've knicked for a nob here or there before, yeah? I just want some lolly and you can wank about all you like. Sounds fair, yeah? Downright equitable."

Wf+6 327419

>>327412
"No, Summer. No one should say those words. Those words mean you are not a good person."

Spring turns to Emrille. "You don't want me to think you're a bad person, do you?"

Light Heart [Warlord] 327423

>>327417
"And what, pray tell, is your name? If you want to work for me, I need to be able to understand what you are saying. None of this gibberish you are talking now."

Emrille [Gunslinger] 327431

Emrille [Gunslinger] 327465

Wf+6 327466

The Lieutenant holds up the fuse. "Well, you asked for it."

He lights it. Unless put out, it will go off next turn.

Felfire [Necromancer] 327468

You're able to stomp it out before it goes anywhere. He looks a little upset.

>>327469
"Bit of a bruiser, ain't I? Pretty good at disarmin', but I'd imagine a bloke like me ought get done up in a kipper tryin' to pull the likes of that on one of those boys. Lag like me can use a shiv, but seems good for fuck all, too. Mace might work. Good for smashin' in, yeah?"

Someone should check that vent already.

Wf+6 327482

Summer Seas [Cleric] 327485

Wf+6 327668

The guards are tied up.

You can't really find a good place to jam the fans because they're HUGE compared to the weapons. They have a blade span of some ten feet.

You don't think they'll be starting again because the fuse box has been torn out of the wall. There, next to the box, giving you a condescending look is the mage you left outside, Borders Skewed, along with the Griffon mercenary, Rili, and some diamond dog you haven't met.

Felfire [Necromancer] 327673

For simplicity, let's just say it resets at end of session.

It's HUGE! Getting up close makes you realize just how big it is. This thing dwarfs your entire party. Still, you swing your little scythe at it. It seems like you probably may have done damage? You sort of jam it into a joint repeatedly, and you feel like it may have helped.

>>328922
You definitely didn't, though. He bats you back incredibly painfully against a wall.

Helpless, in harm's way, 2 wounds remaining.

>>328927
The tiny bullet pings off the side of the golem… Still you've seen worse shots.

>>328930
This is the sixth Werfenflammer unit to ever be produced. It is an incredible colossus of both deadly and utilized repute. While very expensive, these full treasury golems have the capability to mint new coins with an accuracy rate of 99.7% inside their own hands, which contain miniature factories. Not two miniature, mind you: their hands are as big as Lesser Treasury Golems, which you may remember are around the size of buffalo. As a result of the extremely hot temperatures housed inside their hands, they can spew superheated liquid metal and they give off extreme heat exhaust, which requires constant ventilation. This model is made from a steel alloy that will resist incredible temperatures before failing. It runs on reserve power, but when depleted, will attempt to drain the life out of nearby mortals in order to provide power. These things probably raise a few ethical concerns, but who cares when you're powerful enough to afford one?

>>328907
>>328904
You don't get her to safety, but Spring gets her back on her feet. She's topped off at five wounds.

Light Heart puts on a brave face as a gout of steam engulfs her, taking her for two hits.

>>328902

Wf+6 328975

>>328971
There are deactivated lesser treasury golems and gold everywhere. Aside from that, the room is pretty barren, save for the giant vat of unrefined gold next to the golem and the bin that it was placing freshly minted coins into.

This thing is absolutely enormous. It dwarfs anything else you've seen indoors, and most things you've seen outdoors. It's scary.

The floor is made of a powerful steel alloy to prevent spills of superheated metal from eating through.

Apparently, very hard. The metal sears your flesh.

>>329278
You and Rosemary can't escape the oncoming wave, but Dodgy lives up to his name. In a split second decision, he pulls you behind a crate, unable to save Rosemary too. She was not prepared for this wicked flame in her condition, but Dodgy has saved you from a mortal wound.

>>329280
It's hard to get up, covered in a layer of molten copper!

>>329287
Spring gets burned badly. You'd be even worse if it weren't for…

>>329290
Chip, who leaps in front of you. He's absolutely covered in several inches of burning metal. Not just the flecks that others got. He's encased. His will to live keeps him up for one turn after this, but you can't even see him in there…

Two notes. Protect is automatic, and you don't benefit from engineering while making a dodge, though you do benefit from dodging a colossal enemy.

>>329275
Hey, that wasn't so bad! You got away fine! Then you see the rest of the party. Oh.

Rili: mortal wound
Chip: mortal wound (protecting for one turn)

Light Heart: 2 wounds, helpless
Rosemary: DEAD
Emrille: 3 wounds, helpless

It doesn't work. You're feeling the heat yourself… This needs to end, fast.

>>329311
You're down, and sweating hard.

There's a cry of metallic anger from the other side of the room, and the golem, arms and one leg disabled, flails about helplessly, but generating more heat nonetheless.

She's out. Burned to a crisp. Two autohypno rolls, please.

Summer, Light and Emrille are up. It's not counting for much, though, in this heat.

Emrille looses a frost shot which shatters against the vault door. It sends a wave of cool relief across all of you… for about half a second. The vault is much cooler, but it's not enough. The door does make a pleasant chiming sound, though.

Everyone makes a single autohynpotism roll except for the abovementioned Spring, making two.

>>329424
You make the most heroic corpsegrab of all time just in time for you and Dodgy to pass out from the heat. Two autohypno rolls next turn for each.

>>329417
Well, you didn't pass out. Yet.

>>329427

Spring is definitely unconscious. Through sheer force of will, you perform an experimental procedure and manage to keep her on the verge of death. Your vicelike grib will not yield! You are her anchor!

Then you pass out from heat exhaustion.

BOOM

The vault door splits into shards and flies in every direction at once. At the door, there's a disgruntled looking pegasus in uniform emerging from the smoke. He tosses a grenade behind himself as he walks through the door. '1d10'

"WHO CALLED FOR AN EXPLOSION?"

A wave of hot air immediately exits the vault, lowering it to safe temperatures.

These characters need to roll twice to not die immediately. Everyone else is "safe" from the heat and can take other actions.
