Rise of Nightmares - Thread 3 DM 314869

You are in Canterlot
It is late afternoon

You may do further research at the library if there are topics you feel you should know more about.
If not, you can spend the night in the capital, or travel to Midnight Peak to the north to investigate the altar there.

Sylt [Omniseer] 314871

"We should move."
Shrudder.
"We really should."

Sion 314872

>>314869
"I think we should travel to mignight peak. Finally catch some cultists and get some answers.

314873

>>314869
I'd like to get some more research on cults and rituals done.

>>314871
"What's your rush?"

Roll #0 3 = 3

Rosethorn [Warlord] 314874

>>314871
"If you say so. You're the smart one here."

Sylt [Omniseer] 314875

>>314873
"I just don't want to be around town when night falls."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314876

>>314875
I look around and see what the sky looks like.
"Why what happened?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 314877

>>314876
"Nothing. Yet. Call it a bad feeling, okay?"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314878

>>314877
"Is there something else you want to share with us?"

DM 314879

>>314873
Going through the book on demonic legends and Tirek, you find some tidbits
[-only cult members are privy to the exacts of rituals, but they often involve sacrifices, prayer, acts of heresy and the acceptance of dark gifts.]

Sylt [Omniseer] 314880

>>314878
"Apart from a report clearly showing the Dean Illusionist is involved in the cospiracy?
No, I don't think there's anything else."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314881

>>314880
>>314877
Conspiracy… hey, did you find anything on that book I gave you?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 314882

>>314881
"Yeah. Lods of stuff about Tirek and its followers. They have an altar at the Midnight Peak."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314883

>>314880
"I knew it. I wish we could have indited him. I feel like we're flying blind here. Literally, almost."

>>314879
Well that's a whole lot of nothing. I guess it gives us a few hings of what to expect.

Sylt [Omniseer] 314884

>>314883
"I wish…"

Pick up my stuff.
"We should move."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314885

>>314882
"I doubt that we will visit that place this late. Its afternoon already after all." I scrunched.

"As for Tirek, is he crazy or something?"

Aleister [Mage] 314886

>>314883
"These cultists are definately good at covering their tracks. That's why we should try to get them at that altar."

DM 314887

>>314883
You do realize you have a jail full of captured cultists, right?
Ask them for details if you want.

Aleister [Mage] 314888

>>314885
"He wants to bring about eternal night and make ponies suffer horribly."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314889

>>314887
That's right, we do. Not that they were very forthcoming beforehand, but maybe they love to discuss their work.

"Does anyone else want to try and ask the prisoners about what we might find, or are you set on departing?"

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314890

>>314888
"Eh… to what end?"
"Oh wait, he is crazy. Nevermind."

>>314884
"Alright, I'll follow ya."

Aleister [Mage] 314891

>>314889
"It's worth a try. Let's make it quick"

Sylt [Omniseer] 314892

>>314889
"Just… What do you need to know?"

Aleister [Mage] 314893

>>314892
"Well, we could ask them how to break the enchantment surrounding their altar. If we can persuade them."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314894

>>314891
"Of course."

>>314892
"What we find there paired with more information on cult rituals might help us break the enchantment. Also how they got to the dean."

Aleister [Mage] 314895

>>314894
I'm going to the barracks where the prisoners are.

Sylt [Omniseer] 314896

>>314893
"Right. I hadn't even thought of that."
Hey Master, how do we do that?
'1d10+2'
>>314894
"We have no real proof against the dean, you should not mention him."

Roll #1 6 + 2 = 8

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314897

>>314896
"Nothing concrete, but cartloads of circumstantial evidence. Coincidence is out the window by now. If we're lucky, they might drop his name."

>>314895
I follow.

Sylt [Omniseer] 314898

>>314897
"Look there might be… More powerful ponies than you think in this.
So just, play it safe, okay?"

DM 314899

>>314895
>>314897
The guard on duty tells you the way to the dungeons. He also mentions the High Interrogator is still available if you want help in getting info.
>>314896
How do you break the enchantment, puppet? Try blowing up the mountain.
That was sarcasm. The enchantment is ancient and deeply woven into the area. Removing it entirely is not an option.

Sylt [Omniseer] 314900

>>314899
I'm not blowing a mountain. I like skinny guys.
See, your sarcasm is not lost on me.
And now I'm depressed again.
I want to run, Master. Hide.

Aleister [Mage] 314901

>>314899
I go to the prisoners.

"Well looks like the High Interrogator did quite a number on you guys. Would be a real shame if I had to call him back because you guys don't want to tell me about Midnight Peak"

'1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314902

>>314899
I ask for a summary of his sessions so far.

Sylt [Omniseer] 314903

>>314901
Just stand behind him with a lost expression.

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314905

>>314901
>>314903
Listen to the conversation at hand.

DM 314911

>>314900
Now now puppet. Where would you run?
The Long Night is coming. You cannot outrun the sky.
But you can bright light to it.
You can light up the night.
>>314901
>>314903
>>314905
Two of the cultist, one pegasus and the bat, look at you
"What is there to say? You would not understand even if we spoke of our motives."
"I think he's just asking about the altar."
"Oh. Well that changes very little regardless."
>>314902

-High Interrogator Grindstone]

Aleister [Mage] 314917

>>314911
"So you guys do know what I'm talking about. How do we get there?"

'1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Sylt [Omniseer] 314918

>>314911
I'm not very light-y.
You are not exactly the brightest blazer of hope ponies can run to, are you?

Turn to the cultists.
"I might. So just test me."

DM 314919

>>314917
"To get to the peak you usually climb the mountain."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314922

>>314919
"Then.. thats it?" I look at the bat pony.

Aleister [Mage] 314923

>>314919
"Cut the bullshit. We know there's an enchantment, tell us how to get past it. If you think the Interrogator was bad, I really should introduce you to Rose here. She beats children half to death for things for things far less then you guys did."

'1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314925

>>314911
Hmph. Typical of a bunch of cultists to sneak around and hide their disgusting activities under cover of Luna's night. They act like they own it.

>>314911
"Just what were you hiding on that mountain? What connection is there to the Lord of Midnight?"

DM 314926

>>314918
Hope dies last, puppet.
I am not here to tell you this will all end in blood and darkness, but it will, if not for you and your friends.
>>314922
"Well, climbing is easier if you just take the path."
>>314923
"Oh don't tell me you hurt those kids. They were such nice young lads too. A little rowdy, yes, but who wasn't at that age."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314928

>>314923
"Well, Rose is an aggressive one now that you remind me, poor lad."

DM 314930

>>314925
"We are not hiding anything. What has been up that mountain has been there since ancient times. We simply need a piece of it as a tool for our ends."

Sylt [Omniseer] 314931

>>314926
Like I am anything special.
I hear damn voices in my head and know only one spell.
I'm a damn one trick pony, goddamnit.
"That's why you were talking about killing them?"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314932

>>314926
"You have no room to talk about those children. You used them as errand boys for your perverse art!."

>>314930
"What piece. And what ends?!"

Aleister [Mage] 314933

>>314926
"Well I'm done playing games. Either you tell us right now or I'm calling the Interrogator in."

I start moving towards the door.

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314934

>>314926
"I dont know if I should ask for a map on you two. Perhaps the interrogator might be a good idea after all as Alestier said."

DM 314935

>>314931
Those who walk alone, die alone, puppet.
"Killing them? Me?"
>>314932
"Our art exists to tell the world of the coming of our god. To herald her into this world safely, and to send her message to all who are willing to still repent for their ignorance and slander."
"As for the piece, it is a small thing, but we feel it is vital in aiding her birth. A small aid in allowing her to realize herself fully in this world."
>>314933
The pegasus rolls his eyes and turns to the bat
"I told you they have no sense of drama."

Aleister [Mage] 314938

>>314935
"Well I know somebody who enjoys his art."

I shout to the guard. "Could you call the Interrogator?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 314939

>>314935
"Your leader was. Because they had failed your task."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314941

>>314935
"Hey! Lets play drama then." I approach the pegasus.

"Okay how do you two want to play this game." I give them a serious look.

Rosethorn [Warlord] 314942

>>314923
I cock an eyebrow

>>314935
>>314926
I shake my head in disgust
"By Luna's regal behind you ponies are mad…"

DM 314946

>>314938
After some noise, a small, frail looking mare enters
"Someone asked for me?"
One of the prisoners inches away and curls up in the back of the cell
>>314941
"We await nightfall, and then… then the true show begins"
>>314939
The bad bites his lip
"I guess I got a little caught up in the moment. I never intended to kill them. They were nice kids."
>>314942
"WHAT RIGHT DO YOU HAVE TO SPEAK OF LUNA? You shun her night just as all the rest of you blasphemers! YOU FORSAKE HER EVERY EVENING, DISREGARDING HER BEAUTIFUL NIGHTS TO SLEEP AND MARCH ON THROUGH YET ANOTHER DAMNED WORTHLESS DAY!"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314947

>>314935
"The fact that it involved slaughter and…cannibalism doesn't inspire much confidence in you. What makes you think this will all come to pass so easily?"

Aleister [Mage] 314949

>>314946
I look surprised.

"You…are the Interrogator?"

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314950

>>314946
>>314946
"Whoa whoa dont go on like that. We love Luna's night, it gives us time to rest for the day tomorrow."

"But if there will be a show during the night then I might stay awake to see what it is." I put a hoof on my chin.

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314952

>>314946
"What right do you have to use it as cover for illegal activity and subverting the youth?! Luna's night was not meant as a shadow to cover your blasphemy! And what gall do you have calling the day worthless?!"

Rosethorn [Warlord] 314954

>>314946
I unsheathe my sword with a snarl
"YOU THINK YOU CAN OUTSHOUT ME? YOUR PATHETIC WAILING BEFITS YOU CULTISTS ALL TOO WELL! BY RIGHT, WE SHOULD HAVE YOU BE CASTRATED AND THROWN INTO THE OUBLIETTE FOR THE REMAINDER OF YOUR MISERABLE LIFE!"
'1d10' WoP

Roll #1 8 = 8

Sylt [Omniseer] 314957

>>314946
Wince and back off the cage as the cultist starts shouting, curl up somewhere in a corner.
This shit isn't for me.
"We should go… Before the night comes…"

DM 314959

>>314947
"Because the point at which it could be stopped was passed months, if not years ago."
>>314949
She nods
"High Interrogator Grindstone of Canterlot, at your disposal. Who is my… subject?"
>>314950
>>314952
"THE NIGHT IS A WORK OF ART WASTED ON YOUR KIND! YOU PRAISE THE SUN AS IF IT WERE SOMETHING WORTHY OF NOTE, THE BLANK AND TIRESOME BALL OF LIGHT! YO-"
>>314954
The cultist shut up swiftly
Grindstone smiles a little
"Not a bad idea, friend."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314960

>>314954
>>314959
I put my hoof on my ear.
"You two keep on shouting though I have the right to protest."

"As for a wasted night, how come? Its never wasted. I got to agree that it is a work of art too because without it, we wont get a full sleep." I give him a confused look.

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314962

>>314959
"The Sun and Moon are meant to work in concert, watching over all of creation and protecting us from on high! To imply that any one is greater than the other is to upset your own spiritual balance!"

Aleister [Mage] 314963

>>314959
"These freaks right here. They have some information about an altar at Midnight Peak and they don't want to share it with us."

Aleister [Mage] 314964

>>314963
"Specifically, they don't want to tell us how to get past the enchantment protecting it."

Rosethorn [Warlord] 314965

>>314959
"Hmph, some devotees you are. One simple threat and you are cowering like the dogs you are."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314967

>>314964
"Enchantment? Ah I see now."

DM 314968

>>314960
>>314962
"…you deluded fools… you squander her glorious gifts in unconsciousness, appreciating none of their splendor…"
>>314965
They glare at Grindstone
"…we have reasons"
>>314963
>>314964
The frail unicorn takes a glance at the cell, then back at you
"Would you rather step outside for this, or?"

Rosethorn [Warlord] 314969

>>314968
My eyes widen as I look at Grindstone
"You are not seriously going to do that, are you?"

Aleister [Mage] 314970

>>314968
I'm sort of curious what exactly got these cultist so scared of her.

"I'm fine."

314971

>>314968
Oh please no. Stop the torture.
Master tell me how to get past that! You don't need to make those ponies suffer again! They don't deserve this! They are beaten, done for!
There is an easier way!

Roll #0 5 + 2 = 7

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314973

>>314968
"I think I should witness this."

>>314969
"You may have a future down here."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314975

>>314968
"Wait, you mean Luna give out gift while we are asleep? Its confusing, I wasnt told about that,"

Seeing the two getting depressed at our questioning, I then approach and sit.
"Just to know, what are your names? Mine is Whiteshield."

DM 314983

>>314969
"It is an idea worth exploring."
>>314970
>>314973
"Brave souls. Few want to watch me work."
>>314971
Fear is a powerful tool, puppet.
Often the fear of coming pain can be worse than the pain itself.
Take her aside, ask for the direct approach. She will know what you mean.
>>314975
The bat sighs
"In our circles, I am known as Starpainter."
The pegasus remains silent

Rosethorn [Warlord] 314987

>>314973
"What!? No!"

>>314983
"But… ugh…"
Turn to the cultists
"Look, I didn't mean for this to happen. Just fucking cooperate please. For your own good."

Aleister [Mage] 314988

>>314983
I take a step back to let the Interrogator work

314989

>>314983
You mean.. The batpony?

Stand up and stop my mophing.
Walk up yo where White Shield and the Interrogator are talking with the batpony.
"Maybe you should tell us about the direct approach."

Roll #0 7 + 2 = 9

Cirrus [Battlemage] 314990

>>314983
I nod and step aside.
"Last chance."

>>314987
"You seemed eager enough a minute ago. Are you sure?"

>>314989
Stare at him. What is he talking about?

Sylt [Omniseer] 314991

DM 314992

>>314989
Puppet, I meant the interrogator
Grindstone turns you around
"Not a lot of ponies ask me for that. Why do you bring it up?"
>>314987
>>314990
The cultists sort of cower back
"W-what time is it?"

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 314993

>>314983
"Starpainter, thats a nice name your parents got you." I smile back.

"So about this cult, I got to ask. Who are you worshipping, is it Tirek?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 314995

>>314992
But I'm not a very clever puppet. Or a particularly brave one.

Look at the ground.
"Because… It might work?"

Aleister [Mage] 314996

>>314995
Interject.

"We heard the guard mention it some time ago. He said it always works like a charm."

DM 314997

>>314993
"It was not… given by my parents.
And no. Tirek is an old beast we do not serve or bow to. No… he is but a tool for us."
>>314995
>>314996
"I'm not very fond of it. Why are you so eager to protect this lot?
Or are we really in that much of a hurry?"

Rosethorn [Warlord] 314998

>>314990
"I didn't mean to actually go through with it! That's cruel and painful beyond reason."
Make sure to let that last part well heard
Good cop bad cop

>>314992
"There is no time for that! Just work with us here so you don't have to suffer that!"

Sylt [Omniseer] 314999

>>314997
Answer is a low and fearful voice.
"The second…"

Aleister [Mage] 315000

>>314997
"We'd like to know this before nightfall. It's urgent."

Aleister [Mage] 315002

>>314998
"Don't waste your breath Rose. We'll know everything we need to know soon anyway. They're crazy cultists. They don't listen to reason."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315004

>>314997
"Tirek is ancient and cruel beyond measure. I doubt any mortal soul could use any of his art as a tool without dire consequences."

DM 315005

>>314999
>>315000
Grindstone sighs
"I always feel so dirty after this… but very well. I'll have my fun later."
>>314998
Grindstone returns to the cell door
"YOU! BAT! GET OVER HERE!"
The cultist hesitates, but is yanked against the bar by the interrogator's magic tough
"I will return later to see to it you scream your last like a little foal being torn apart by wolves you insidious heretic, but for now, pain will have to wait. I need your knowledge and I need it NOW."
She touches his head with her horn, reels for a moment, then lets him slump to the floor as she shakily walks away
"You asked about the altar? The path to it is hidden behind some bushes on a plateau on the mountain. That will get you past the fog."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 315006

>>314997
"Oh… so.. you're an orphan?" I scrunched.
"Look, on my part you do know the reasons why Equestria dont like that old goat. He is trouble and now you guys are using him as a tool of sort."

"We just want to help out and prevent any bad things from happening."

Sylt [Omniseer] 315007

>>315005
"Could you see how many cultists were there?"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315008

>>315005
"That seems…far more efficient than any form of torture. Why not rely on it?"

DM 315009

>>315007
"I'm adept at mind reading, not clairvoyance. Now please excuse me I need to vomit. I hate being inside the heads of others."
She wobbles out of the dungeon.

Aleister [Mage] 315010

>>315005
"Well I guess we've got what we came for. Should we depart to the altar?"

315011

>>315009
Oh right. I'm the one who does that. Well, you are.

Look at the others.
"Can we please go now?"
And give a miserable look, too.

Roll #0 3 = 3

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315012

>>315010
"I had no idea there was talent like that in the castle. Anyway, yes. Let's go."

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 315015

>>315011
>>315011
"Go where?" I look at Sylt.

>>315005
Is it the same bat(starpainter) that I am talking too?

Sylt [Omniseer] 315016

>>315015
"Goddamnit the altar! We must leave this town! Now!"

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 315019

>>315016
I step back.
"Well, if you insist."

DM 315021

>>315008
Might be because she had to go toss her lunch right after it.
>>315011
You only postpone their suffering.
And not by much.
She will enjoy the pain she causes all the more after having to do that.
>>315006
>>315004
>>315015
Yes. Starpainter is the only bat here.
The bat retches and weakly gets up
"I don't know what you intend to find there, or what you intend to stop by going there. But… you could just have repented. And… joined us in the night."

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315022

>>315012
"…"

>>315016
"Wait, why didn't we-? Ugh, nevermind"

Sylt [Omniseer] 315024

>>315021
Ah. I really shouldn't have talked. Maybe I'll shut up from now on.

Look at the bat as she ends her madtalk.
"… I'm sorry."

Let's leave for the altar.

DM 315025

You may
-stay to talk to the cultists, interrogator or captain
-spend the night in Canterlot
-travel to Midnight Peak Altar

Aleister [Mage] 315027

>>315022
I leave the dungeons.

"Um, Rose. About what I said to the cultists about you…you know I was exagerrating to scare those freaks right?"

DM 315028

>>315024
That bat's a he, by the way.

Aleister [Mage] 315029

>>315025
I vote for travel.

WhiteShield(Uni Crusader) 315030

>>315025
I look at the others.
"Well, let me pack my things then lets head for the altar. Or if you are not up to it, staying here is fine by me."
It is caterlot after all, I smile inside myself.

"Wait, you guys know how to get there right? I'll follow."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315031

>>315022
"What?"

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315033

>>315025
Travel

>>315027
"I figured as much, that's why I made those threats."
I pause
"I didn't know that crazy mare would actually go through with it though…"

Sylt [Omniseer] 315034

>>315025
Move to the altar.
Anything but Canterlot.
Anything but a city.
>>315028
My sight goes only so far as your voice does, Master.
>>315033
"She's going to do worse…"

Aleister [Mage] 315036

>>315033
"They're crazy murderers. They wouldn't even think twice to do the same and worse to us. You shouldn't feel bad about it."

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315038

>>315036
I gulp
"Still, that must hurt as fuck…"

Sylt [Omniseer] 315042

>>315036
"Shut up. They are still ponies."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315046

>>315042
"So, what? Punishment for the guilty is only for griffons? Or buffalo? What makes them any better then other heretics?"

DM 315048

>>315029
>>315033
>>315034
You notice Grindstone wobble back into the dungeon lobby as you exit. She is dragging along a bag and muttering something.
There is also a guard at the door
"The Captain asked me to tell you that he cannot really spare much, but if you feel the need, he can assign a guard pair to join you, or give you an emergency flare if you feel you'd rather travel light.
If there is anything else you need, just ask."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315049

>>315048
"The flare would be nice. I have a feeling you'll need the hooves to spare defending the capital."

Sylt [Omniseer] 315050

>>315046
"Ugh. It's not that. They are… Living. They think. They feel pain.
And they are defeated! We know all we need! And she'll hurt them more and there's no reason for this and it's all my damn fault and-"
>>315048
Turn to the guard.
"Could you, please, stop the interrogator? Those ponies told us all we need. Please!"

Aleister [Mage] 315051

>>315042
"These ponies tried to kill other ponies last night and they want to do it again. You heard them. Their friends almost killed you the other night. I don't like torture, but if we have to hurt them a bit to prevent more murders happening so be it."

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315053

>>315046
"It's still a bit harsh, in my opinion. Then again, they are a bunch of asses."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315055

>>315050
"And they inflicted that pain on others. Punishment must fit the crime."

DM 315056

>>315050
He cocks his head at you
"Stop the interrogation? Are you sure?"

Aleister [Mage] 315057

>>315038
"With all this cultist business, I almost forgot, what happened to the fillies from the burning home?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 315058

>>315051
"But we don't need to! Damnit you know as much as I do that everything we need is-"
Shut myself up. Sit on my rump.
>>315056
"Pretty please?"
Give him a begging face.

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315061

>>315057
"They are safe and well with their father… They just wont ever have their mother or little brother by their sides again…"

DM 315062

>>315058
The guard sighs
"Oh dear Celestia I hate talking to that interrogator… but very well. The captain did say anything you need…"

Sylt [Omniseer] 315065

>>315062
Give him an honest smile.
"Thanks~"

Okay, that interrogator would have pulled off them some vital information we would have needed to save Canterlot, wouldn't she?
'1d10+2'

Roll #1 1 + 2 = 3

Aleister [Mage] 315066

>>315061
"Well at least you saved them and their father. That's something."

DM 315076

>>315065
Oh she would have pulled off a lot from all of them. Mostly body parts. She enjoys it deeply, for she has always felt weak and abused. Often taken advantage of by her friends, co-workers and superiors alike ever since she was young, she found an all new calling after an accident involving a broken knife, a recently washed, slippery floor and several kitchen tools.
She now takes deep enjoyment in hearing the howls of pain of others. In knowing she is the one in control. In feeling, for the one time in her life, powerful.
She would have used them to vent her anger and angst, calmly noting down what they confessed but never stopping until her own urges were satisfied.
She is an artisan.
And she needs to practice her craft tonight.
If not on them… she will find reasons to use another.

The guard gives you a flare and goes to tell Grindstone she can leave the prisoners be.

You may play the trip to the altar, or skip right to the plateau.

Aleister [Mage] 315078

>>315076
It's all the same for me.

315081

>>315076
I don't think this city is worth saving anymore…
Let's just get to the plateau, no more thoughts about this damn place.
What if the night is the best option?
What if we side with the night?

Roll #0 5 + 2 = 7

DM 315084

>>315081
There will always be bad fruit even in the healthiest of trees. To condemn the city based on a few it employs is not the way to see the world.
As for the night, puppet… it is very beautiful. Princess Luna puts great effort into it every single evening.
But there is more to this. As you will soon see.

315087

>>315084
And now she's been corrupted by this damn old goat and twisted into forcing the night down everypony's throath.
Must be nice not to worry about things like that.

What awaits us, once at the altar? More of those madponies?

Roll #0 7 + 2 = 9

DM 315089

>>315087
And not just any. You will soon get to meet the very first of the Gifted.
Andthrough him, you will understand just how much of this came to be.

Aleister [Mage] 315090

>>315076
we're going to the plateau?

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315091

>>315076
Let's go to the plateau.

Sylt [Omniseer] 315092

>>315089
Start talking to the others, as we move towards the altar.
"Guys… That place is- No, it might be dangerous. Are you sure we can do this?"
Ready to get my ass there whenever.

DM 315093

>>315090
>>315078
FAST TRAVEL IT IS

After hours of trekking and climbing, you reach the north mountain plateau.
The sun has almost set by now.

315094

>>315093
Whatever we're going to do, we should do it fast.

Look around.

Aleister [Mage] 315096

>>315093
Are we already close to the altar or do we still have to climb the mountain?

DM 315097

>>315096
You only need to find the path
>>315094
>>315095
Well there is a bush by the mountainside that kinda stands out.
There is a shred of cloth stuck to it.

Aleister [Mage] 315099

>>315097
"Well that should be the bush our friends were talking about."

315101

>>315097
And that cloth is from the cultists or some poor, unfortunate soul lost in the mountains who just happened to wander around the altar?
Oh wait, don't tell me. Pony sacrifices.

Roll #0 1 + 2 = 3

DM 315104

>>315101
What a novel idea.
I think I'll add one in, just for you, puppet.
Poor kid… what a way to go.

Aleister [Mage] 315106

>>315099
I go to the bushes.

Sylt [Omniseer] 315108

>>315104
No… Please, anything but that!

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315109

>>315106
I follow.

DM 315111

>>315106
>>315109
Shoving them aside, you notice a path hidden behind them, leading up the mountainside.
>>315108
A small life, snuffed out so violently.
If only he had not run away from home.
If only he had not joined the wrong crowd.
I bet his parents are sad about some of the things they said now.
Must be terrible knowing the last thing you said to your child was that he was an ungrateful brat.

Sylt [Omniseer] 315117

>>315111
Well fuck you, monster.
I will find him, and I will save him. And you can allow me to or kill me as I try.
And fucking see if I call for you again!

Aleister [Mage] 315120

>>315111
"Here's the path, let's go everypony!"

I start to climb the mountain path.

Sylt [Omniseer] 315122

>>315120
Follow him.

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315123

>>315111
"You'd think it would be harder to find. Overconfidence breeds easily in this cult."

I go up.

Sylt [Omniseer] 315126

>>315123
"Yeah… I don't think that's from one of the cultists."

DM 315128

>>315117
I am but an oracle to a greater power. What it decrees, I interpret.
Hurry now, puppet.
Hurry.
>>315123
>>315122
>>315120
As you climb up the path, the entire sky falls pitch black. Not even the moon and stars are visible any more. But an eery glow from the summit lights your way.

By the time you get close to the peak, you can see the silhouettes of ancient broken pillars, and hear chanting.

315130

>>315128

Roll #0 7 + 2 = 9

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315132

Aleister [Mage] 315134

>>315128
I use farsight to see what's going on.

DM 315135

>>315130
>>315134
There is a ritual going on up there.
Cultists gathered around a symbol of the moon, near an altar to some kind of demon.
A deep heartbeat can be heard in rhythm to the chanting.
One of the cultists seems… really small.

Sylt [Omniseer] 315137

>>315135
"Fuck. That's the kid.
The sacrifice. If I can get close enough, let's say ten meters, I can get the kid out of there."

Aleister [Mage] 315138

>>315135
I go closer to the ritual, near Cirrus.

"So, what do you think? Should we wait to see what happens?"

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315140

>>315137
I unsheathe my swords
"I'll create a distraction. Don't worry."

Sylt [Omniseer] 315141

>>315140
"Don't do anything stupid. There's a lot of them."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315142

>>315140
"Don't be so hasty. We need a plan."

Aleister [Mage] 315145

>>315140
"Rosethorn what are you planning?"

DM 315146

>>315140
Flatline puts a hoof on your shoulder and gives you a questioning look

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315151

>>315146
"Stay back no matter what happens, you. I've caused your friend enough damage already."

>>315142
>>315145
"Let's see what happens first…"

Sylt [Omniseer] 315153

>>315151
"Look I'm not sure we have much time. And I'm not sure he's an unwilling sacrifice, either."
>>315146
Let's sneak up and get as close as I can.
Distance from the cultists?

Aleister [Mage] 315155

>>315153
I follow Sylt

DM 315156

>>315151
Flatline nods and pulls back.

The cultist chanting grows in tempo, and one of them, probably the leader, motions for the small one to come closer to the altar.
>>315153
>>315155
A hundred meters at least. They are in the middle of the temple ruins, on a slightly raised area that was once the temple floor. The path brought you to where there probably once was a temple door.

Aleister [Mage] 315157

>>315156
"That kid is going to sacrifice himself willingly???"

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315159

>>315153
"Hmmm… You just make sure the kid stays safe."
Move around to a different bush, separated from the party and ready my daggers.

>>315156
Get into a decent position away from the party.
Ready a throwing dagger.
Cheap Shot on the leader once he gets too close to the kid

315160

>>315156
Okay. I guess I'll have to take it back if I want to save the kid.
Please master. Tell me. Is he going in there on his own volition?
>>315157
"He might. Which means he could oppose resistance."

Roll #0 1 + 2 = 3

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315161

"He's the least of our problems. We should disrupt the ceremony first."

DM 315164

They are both by the altar now, and are joined by a third pony.
Take the shot?
-At the leader
-At the kid
-At the newcomer
>>315160
He said he'd rather die than go back to his parents.
Tonight, he will make good on that promise.
He will do it, but he is in no state of mind to make that call. He has enjoyed all they have given him. The wine. The narcotics. He does not even know where he is.
And soon, very soon, they will feed on his still beating heart.
What a way to go.
And to think it was all started because his mom can't cook tasty sprouts, but insists they are healthy and makes him eat them…

Aleister [Mage] 315166

>>315161
"I agree. Still…we can't let any harm come to the kid. We're on Tireks ground now. We can't take any chances."

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315169

>>315164
Who is the newcomer? What does he look like?

DM 315171

>>315169
He seems pretty big.
Has a strange aura about him.
The heartbeat seems to react to him somewhat.

Cirrus [Battlemage] 315173

>>315171
"Wait…who is that?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 315174

>>315164
Fuckfuckfuck.
This is all my fault. He did not exist before that moment, before that piece of cloth! You are no oracle, you are the damn god of this world, aren't you?

"If nopony does anything, I'll run in. He's been drugged."

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315175

Aleister [Mage] 315179

Rosethorn [Warlord] 315180

Aleister [Mage] 315182

315184

Is it just me?
>>315178
"I just know.

The cultists in the sidelines turn to face you, and you are quickly subdued and dragged to the altar.
"Well well. An intruder."
>>315186
The weapon doesn't really manifest well.
It will break on a miss.
>>315184
You charge in, and yank the kid away from the altar.
The gifted looks surprised
>>315189
Your lightning orb blasts one of the cultists off his hooves, sending him tumbling down the floor.

"So, you have come to challenge the power of nightmares? Very well. Come then. LET ME SHOW YOU THE MEANING OF FEAR!
The gifted reveals its sharp, twisted fangs, then bites deep into the chest of Rosethorn, greedily ripping out a chunk of flesh and heart muscle.
As the blood pours over its face, it turns to you, eyes glowing with power, and its muscles pulsing with energy

DM 315992

Your cover has been blown.
As another Long Night falls, you face down one of the Gifted - a possessed cultist - at the Altar of Midnight.

The furious heartbeat of Tirek can be beard coming from the heart of the altar statue.

The Gifted and nine Cultists stand between it and you.
The tenth Cultist, their leader, is helpless.

You have a flare if you need backup, but launching it while inside the mist illusion means it takes longer for help to arrive.

315994

>>315992

"… why?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 316456

Look down on the ground.

DM 316640

He nods
"I NEED THREE VOLUNTEERS!"
Thee of the guards salute and take a step forward.
"These three will stay"

Aleister [Mage] 316655

Aleister [Mage] 316670

"Be my guest."

DM 316672

No.
The middle one will use the heart and kill the other two.
The inquisition will wipe all records of this place to remove it from history.

Sylt [Omniseer] 316681

Urgh.
Turn to the captain.
"Take your ponies with you. Give us some healing if you can, we are falling to pieces, but we must remain here till the inquisition arrives."

Just ignore them. Yep. Ignore them…

Hey, master. My hooves hurt…

318254

>>318241
I keep pace alongside the caravan, brooding.

Rosethorn, I swear we won't let you have died in vain. Those cultists have murdered a guard in cold blood, so there must be a reckoning in blood. Plus I don't trust that seer.

I watch the night sky. How could anybody want to pervert this?

>>318675
Not all. Just many. Including the captain. And his lieutenant.
Not that they'd suffer many losses against an illusionary monster anyway.
>>318680
>>318681
"Well which one is it?"

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318684

I look over the sick and injured. Any suspicious looking individuals here? '1d10'

Aleister [Mage] 318685

>>318681
"No, you. Even if I have to shove you there."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318687

>>318682
Mouth agape from the revelation, stand still.
>>318685
"It's fake! The monster is fake! Is a work of the dean of illusions!"

DM 318690

>>318684
That mage couple looks a little shaken. Must be for a reason.
Also one of them is calling the Dean of Illusions a heretic. >>318687
"Miss? What makes you say that! have you hit your head?"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318691

>>318687
"What are you raving about now?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 318692

>>318691
"Nothing! Forget it! The beast outside, is an illusion! A fake!"

Aleister [Mage] 318693

>>318687
I look at Sylt, I look at the others."

"You've had a busy night Sylt. Just go get some treatment."

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318694

>>318692
"What are you blabbering about, mage?"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318695

>>318692
"No. I heard what you said, and I want a straight answer this time. What are you talking about."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318696

>>318695
>>318694
"Look, just check it for yourselves! The beast is a fake! I know, is my job to tell truth from lie!"
>>318693
"DON'T MAKE ME ANGRY, YOU TOO! GET YOUR HORN FIXED RIGHT NOW!"

Aleister [Mage] 318697

>>318691
>>318694

"Look, both of you. She's had a terrible night. She needs a doctor to help her. Just let her get some help. Please."

DM 318698

>>318697
"Right."
>>318696
"Calm down miss, I'm here to help. Now, where were you wounded?"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318699

>>318696
"So why couldn't you tell beforehand? Did you just forget? It's a little late to make accusations against the dean. Where was your revelation the last bloody time we were here?!"

Sylt [Omniseer] 318700

>>318698
"URGH! I am perfectly fine! Just fix him!"
Frantically motion over to Aleisteir.

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318701

>>318696
"And it's my job to ensure heresy and corruption are dealt with. You make some hefty accusations without any proof to back it up. Just who are you?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 318702

>>318701
"I'm not accusing anypony! Just check for yourself. The monster is fake, that's all there's to it!"

DM 318703

>>318700
"Miss I can count at least a dozen visible wounds on you. If you don't help me by telling what else needs fixing, I will need to take longer to discover it myself."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318704

>>318702
"You just accused the dean, solely on the basis that you think the monster is a fake!"

Sylt [Omniseer] 318705

>>318703
Sigh and calm down.
Point him to the broken ribs and bruises.
>>318704
"Forget that. I did not say a word."

"What's wrong with you then?"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318709

>>318705
"I heard that! You are going to explain your reasoning right now, or I'm arresting you on charges of conspiracy with those cultists!"

Aleister [Mage] 318710

>>318702
I run to Sylt and whisper.

"Sylt if you don't shut up right now, I'll…Just be silent."

>>318701
"Mr Inquisitor. Please forgive her outbursts. We've had a terrible fight with some cultists and we lost one of our friends. We're all in distress."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318712

>>318708
"Thanks doc.
He is pretty bad off."
>>318709
"No. I don't owe you any explanation anfter this damn night."
Move beside Aleister and lay down, staying silent.

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318713

>>318702
"What is your name, mage!? Just how do you know all of this?"

>>318705
I glower at her threateningly
"You've made your claims and accusations, you will not back off now. If what you are claiming is true, then we have work to do. If not… well then this will be a bad night for you indeed."

>>318710
"Sir, the whole damn city is in distress. Doesn't change the fact that we are under threat here."

Aleister [Mage] 318714

>>318708
I go to the doctor. "Well the horn up here is pretty obvious. And…"I take a quick look around me and beckon the medic to come closer "my privates"

318716

>>318712
"You had your chance. If you had bothered to explain your reasoning before this might not have happened, but you have been acting suspicious ever since we were last here."

Restrain her.

Sylt [Omniseer] 318718

Wink away.

"Okay. You want to know why? I have a report signed by the dean of the illusion ward explicitely telling 'There are no dark cults or terrible misterious things to investigate at Midnight Peak'. And guess what, we go there and one of my friends dies, a monster almost tores us all apart and now a damn illusion is attacking the city and what should I think? Tell me!"

DM 318720

>>318714
The doctor glances to the side
"Right…"
She then bends down for a quick check, gasps a little then straightens back up.
"…bad news I'm afraid."

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318722

>>318718
"Then show the damn report already!"

>>318716

Restrain her again.

DM 318738

>>318732
Yes.
The Dean of Illusions states there is nothing worth investigating about the enchantment of Midnight Peak, and won't waste resources on it.

Aleister [Mage] 318740

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318745

>>318735

>>318742
"Well, thanks doc."

Aleister [Mage] 318747

Aleister [Mage] 318751

318753

>>318745
"…fine. But if she really is right, then it's probably too damn late to do anything about it since they're acting so openly. If she were more open beforehand we might have avoided this and saved Rosethorn's life."

>>318744
"Watch your language. In any other situation I would have interpreted that as a threat."

>>318747
"You don't know me. Don't presume to understand my intentions."

Move closer to him, bow in my TK.
>>318753
"It was."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318761

>>318756

Aleister [Mage] 318763

>>318754
I take some supplies. I give some to Sylt.
"Everypony, we should take some supplies while we can."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318765

"After attacking me three times over? There is a point where even being a guard does not protect you, once you keep abusing the weak."

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318768

>>318756
"Put down the damn bow. There's ponies dying out there at the hooves of the cultists while the two of you act like a bunch of damn kids. Let's get a move on. I'm curious to see whether the mage will be correct in her assessments "

>>318763
"Indeed."

Aleister [Mage] 318769

>>318761
>>318753
"You don't have any right to judge her. Instead of wasting time argueing let's go see what the Dean is up to. You can make all accusations you want afterwards."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318771

>>318768
"Keep this savage off my back and you will have my full cooperation."
Point at Cirrus.

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318772

>>318765
"You have a funny definition of 'attack.' Had I wished to harm you I would have done so. You on the other hand disobeyed a direct order from a guard, resisted arrest, and threatened my life. Any jury would find you the aggressor here."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318775

>>318772
"On the other hoof, in one night I've saved more lives than you ever did. And I will save Canterlot, no matter how tick headed you are."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318781

>>318775
"Don't act smug with me. I want the same thing, but I can't do my job with you witholding vital information like this or potentially leading us on wild goose chases."

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318782

>>318772
>>318775
"Do I have to shoot the both of you and drag your bodies up to the dean myself? We don't have time for this endless yapping."

DM 318787

Outside, a roar and a shriek is heard.
Aside from it, there is cheering.

Sylt [Omniseer] 318788

>>318781
"Stop blaming your idiocy on me. The captain showed all of us the report, whiteshield suggested we check the peak after learning about it from a complete different source too.
I saved everyone's life up there showing you how to kill that monster, how the heart would corrupt you, how to save the filly.. And now you tell me I'm witholding informations?
We all knew about it since we started this! You can't really be this retarded!"

Aleister [Mage] 318791

>>318788
"JUST SHUT UP. BOTH OF YOU. WE NEED TO GET GOING NOW."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318792

>>318791
"Where?"

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318793

>>318787
Shake my head and go see this Dean

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318795

>>318788
"I'd thank you to stop insulting me at the very least. And you still haven't explained how you know all this. The only explanation is that you're some kind of plant."

Aleister [Mage] 318796

>>318792
"outside. To the Dean. If it isn't already too late."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318799

>>318796
"You heard the cheering. The monster is defeated.
And how do you think we'll be able to expose the Dean anyway?"

Aleister [Mage] 318801

>>318799
"We'll see if there's anything left." I whisper "And stay close to me."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318803

>>318801
"I will." Stick close to him and follow.

DM 318806

Outside, the sun is slowly breaching the horizon.
It looks like dawn, but your bodies tell you it should probably be afternoon by now.
The nights are getting longer still…
There is no sigh of the beast, and guards are rushing around, securing civilians and putting out fires.

Whiteshield(unicorn Crusader) 318807

I look around.

What happened?

>>318840
>>318837
"Okay… lets not panic.
I can go about this two ways.
One: you let me take you in for surgery, and I take the wood out, patch up the leg and have you back on four legs in a day or ten.
Two: Let me heal you here and now. Though that does have the side effect of leaving the wood in. Meaning you sort of get a peg leg."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318845

>>318843
"Stop, we can make this in a third way. I can teleport the wood out and you can heal her here and now."

Whiteshield(unicorn Crusader) 318848

>>318843
"Hey there you are! Where are the others?"

DM 318849

>>318848
"They were right here just a second ago…"

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318851

>>318843
"I don't have time to wait ten damn days while that scum roams free."

>>318845
"That would save me a whole lot of damn trouble."

Aleister [Mage] 318852

>>318820
"Where?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 318853

>>318848
we are all here. big fight over me being a heretic, we agree to go to the dean and question him, wall falls on inquisitor.

"Be sure what you ask for. The hole will stay, says the doc."

Aleister [Mage] 318854

>>318852
WHISPERED OF COURSE.

Sylt [Omniseer] 318855

>>318854
"His office. He is still cleaning the tools he used to summon the illusion. We could catch him red-hooved."

Aleister [Mage] 318858

>>318855
"Right. Let's fix up the Inquisitor first."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318859

>>318851
"I don't see how that would be different from surgery. In fact, it would be worse. We can have you dying from infection in the middle of a coup."

Whiteshield(unicorn Crusader) 318860

>>318853
"Wha.. what? If you're a here.. then that means I'll be clumped up by the other guards with you and arrest me too!" I whispered

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318862

>>318853
"Then we'll keep the damn wood in."
Shake my head with a sigh
"We can move the damn sun around but properly healing a leg wound is still too much to ask."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318864

>>318860
That was OOC talk, not whispers.
And you are kind of not making too much sense.
>>318862
"I'll leave you with the doc, then."

DM 318867

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318876

>>318869
"Good. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a job to do. I will give you my thanks once this is over."
Hop off the table and turn to the party
"We have cultists to tackle."

Aleister [Mage] 318879

"Yeah, let's check where we last met him. At the Mages Academy.'

DM 318882

And onwards they went, to the Mage Academy.
There are some guards at the door
"What business? We know the attack is over but we were asked to not let anyone in for safety reasons."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318883

>>318882

"Inquisitor?
Sounds… reasonable. Do enter."
They open the door.

318902

"I'm an archeologist! All I know how to do is Wink around and that's it!"
Move in front of her.
Where the hell is the Dean now anyway?

Roll #0 5 + 2 = 7

Aleister [Mage] 318926

>>318922
I wait at the door.

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318927

>>318922
Give the door a few firm knocks.

318928

>>318922
What's behind the door?

Roll #0 7 + 2 = 9

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318931

>>318927
Actually, scrap that, just enter.

Sylt [Omniseer] 318934

>>318931
"Stop! Might be a trap!"

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318936

>>318934
I sigh and look at her
"So what, we're supposed to just sit and stare at the door?"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318937

>>318934
"We have no way of knowing that yet, and no time to check every possibility."

Follow Dewdrop in.

DM 318942

>>318928
The dean.
And his guards. Hidden behind illusions of furniture, curtains and potted plants.
Attacking him will make the room into a slaughterhouse.
>>318931
>>318937
You slam the door open.
The Dean drops his quill
"Um… good morning? I assume the threat has cleared if you've been sent here. Or… should I evacuate?"

Aleister [Mage] 318944

>>318934
I hold Sylt before going in.

"We'll wait out here."

Is there a table or a chair or something near me?

DM 318947

>>318944
There is a bench outside for those waiting in line.

Sylt [Omniseer] 318950

>>318942
Gulp down.
>>318944
"They are in the walls…"
>>318936
>>318937
"Okay, we saw him, he's here, we can go back… Right? Come here, just a second…"
Try to whisper to the Inquisitor.
"They are hiding in this room."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318953

>>318942
"You are under suspicion for activities against the crown and in concert with cultists. Come with us, please."

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318956

>>318942
"Good morning. I am Dewdrop, member of the Inquisition. You have been accused of collaboration with the cultist threat, feeding false information and sending ponies to their deaths, as well of heresy."
Hoof him the report
"I believe this is yours?"

Aleister [Mage] 318958

>>318950
So either I block the door to escape and they all get killed or we probably discover nothing and me and Sylt are fucked. Great.

DM 318960

>>318953
He adjusts his glasses
"I see no formal order for arrest. What accusations do you-"
>>318956
"-…yes, this is mine from a few months back. Why?"

Whiteshield(unicorn Crusader) 318961

Sylt [Omniseer] 318964

>>318956
Tug at her.
"Please. We really should leave the dean alone…"

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318965

>>318960
"As it turns out, your information was false and led to the death of several ponies. You understand that this is a major misstep?"

>>318964
I glare at her
"Are you saying your accusations are false then?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 318966

>>318965
"Accusation? What accusations?"
Give her an imploring smile.
"Please just follow me outside a second."

DM 318967

>>318915
"The prisoners know nothing beyond what thye may have heard. We do not know how the beat got here…"
>>318965
"How terrible. What, exactly, did you find in that temple ruin then?"

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318969

>>318966
Shake my head and sigh, tip my hat to the Dean
"If you would kindly give us a moment."

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318970

>>318969
And follow her out too of course

DM 318972

>>318969
"Gladly. Take all the time you need."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318973

>>318970
Roll my eyes and exit as well.

Sylt [Omniseer] 318974

>>318970
Sigh and gave hang my head low as I whisper to her.
"That room is crawling with guards. The dean has disguised them as forniture.
I know because I can see through illusions and lies and… Other stuff. Always could.
"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318975

>>318974
"Is there a reason for this interruption? He's probably escaping right now."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318976

>>318975
"From the one door we are standing in front of?"

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318977

>>318974
I cock an eyebrow
"You're an omniseer then? No matter, we'll discuss that later. How many guards? Are you absolutely damn sure of this? All of this?"

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318978

>>318976
"He's a dean of illusions. There could be any number of doors in there."

Sylt [Omniseer] 318979

>>318977
Nod.
"Too many."

How many guards were there?

>>318978
"Right. Go check on him then."

DM 318980

>>318979
'1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

DM 318981

>>318980
Seems to be seven.

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318982

>>318979
"You're hiding something again. What is it?"

Sylt [Omniseer] 318985

>>318982
"I'm talking with the Inquisitor. I'm sure she can fill you in if she finds it needed."
>>318978
"Seven of them. And the dean."

Cirrus [Battlemage] 318987

>>318985
"All I want is an honest answer. I want the same thing you apparently do."

Go back inside.

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318988

>>318985
I sigh.

Can I call for reinforcements somehow? '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

DM 318989

>>318987
The Dean is calmly writing in his notebook
"Yes? Is everything ok now?"
>>318988
You can always alert the guards

Whiteshield(unicorn Crusader) 318990

>>318967
>>318967
"How the beat got here? Tell me."

Aleister [Mage] 318993

>>318982
I go to Cirrus and stop him from going in.

I whisper. "Listen Cirrus. Sylt, she has a…gift as an omniseer. She knows things she shouldn't know. She saw cultists in there right now. Please don't go in. I know she can be stubborn and it sounds weird but I can attest she's been true about what she said about the altar.

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 318997

>>318987
Motion him to come back over. Keep whispering to Sylt
"We could call for reinforcements from the other guards."

DM 318999

>>318990
"Beast. We have no idea how it reached Canterlot undetected. We assume it was summoned here."

319000

>>318997
"This is your field. I can just see things."

Will they make it in time, Master?

Roll #0 10 + 2 = 12

Cirrus [Battlemage] 319004

>>318993
"Is thatall? Skies above, why didn't she just say so?"

>>318989
"I apologize for the interruption. We'll be with you momentarily.

Aleister [Mage] 319007

>>319004
"She's can be stubborn at times. Don't take it too personally. By Celestia, at times I can't even make sense of her.. But I can vouch for her.

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 319009

>>319000
"Indeed."
Can I call over some nearby guards? '1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

DM 319010

>>319000
Of course they will.
If you instruct them to wait by the basement door, they will catch the Dean as he tries to flee.
>>319004
"Take all the time you need. There is no need to hurry."

Sylt [Omniseer] 319012

>>319009
"The basement! He'll run from there!"

DM 319013

>>319009
There are several at each door, and a patrol outside on the street.
You can easily call in at least fifteen guards.

Cirrus [Battlemage] 319015

>>319010
"If you say so, dean."

>>319009
"Of course he's just stalling for time. What should we do."

Dewdrop [Inquisitor] 319016

>>319012
"Very well. I hope for your sake this is right."

>>319013
Call in half of them. Tell the rest to remain on lookout for the Dean. The rest can go sit in the basement and wait.

>>319015
"We go back in once the guards are in position."

Whiteshield(unicorn Crusader) 319017

>>318999
"Who put down the beast? Is it capt. Nightstrider?"

I then look outside, I hope the others are safe.

Sylt [Omniseer] 319037

>>319016
"It is. Sadly."
Follow her around.

DM 319055

>>319017
"Nightstrider and the Night Guard elite. They have retired to rest for the day."
>>319016
You go order some guard patrols around, under the pretense of new safety measures.

NEXT TIME ON CONSPIRACIES AND CLAIRVOYANTS
AMBUSHES
REVELATIONS
AND SKILL POINTS

DM 319971

As we last left our heroes, they had set up a counter-ambush against the Dean of Illusions, accused of creating the beast that assaulted Canterlot Castle last night.
