Paladinquest - Thread 5 DM 337791

DM has entirely lost the plot edition.
Please recap what you did post-pause and prepare for the next morning.

337792

>>337791
Last time on Paladin Ball Z: Nock and Vera shared a mattress on the balcony. Nock had good 10/10 dreams.

Rolling for wake up initiative.

Roll #0 9 = 9

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337793

>>337791
Fell asleep on roof after stargazing with Jon

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337794

>>337791
Fell asleep on the roof with Star. Life was good.
'1d10' to wake up with the dawn.

Roll #1 6 = 6

337795

>>337792
Meanwhile, Vera had 1/10 dreams again. This place is bad for my health.
Rolling wake up initiative.

Roll #0 6 = 6

DM 337796

>>337792
You are up first, and get a turn before the others wake up.
You can be first in line for breakfast, or slap someone with a pillow or something.
>>337795
Oh dear.
Roll to see if you fell out of bed or something as a result.
>>337793
>>337794
Well now you have the joy of getting down.
Which roof are you on?
Because one of you needs to sneak back to their own dorm.

337797

>>337796
Wake up roll

Roll #0 4 = 4

337798

>>337796
I think we already decided Vera ended up hugging Nock tight, that night.

Roll #0 7 = 7

DM 337799

>>337798
Oh ok, go with that then.
>>337797
You are groggy as fuck

Nock [Tracker] 337800

>>337796
She can't fall out of bed. We moved a mattress out to the balcony and she had baddreams so she's night strangling me.

Wake up early and find Vera tightly wrapped around me. Well, we have to get up sometime.

"Good morning, Vera."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337801

>>337796
Well, let's see… Sidus and Heart were on the first roof, so we had to find another way up. Don't know which that would put us on, though.

Once I wake up, I'll try and get Star up as well so we can retreat back inside before we're missed.
"Star, hey, good morning. We seem to have, uh, fallen asleep out here."

DM 337802

>>337801
Well lets see
1) Sword Dorm
2) Hammer Dorm
'1d2'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Papaver Field [Mage] 337803

>>337800
"Hm?…"
I guess I do notice the arrangement.
Not that I mind.
"I had a nightmare…"
Squeeze a bit tighter.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337804

>>337799
>>337801
I let out a loud yawn
"Wh-wha…?"

DM 337805

>>337802
You are on the roof of Hammer Dorm.
Jon gets the task of somehow getting out of a dorm full of ladies doing their morning routines without getting spotted or reported.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337806

>>337805
Great. Stealth is obviously my strong suit.
>>337804
"Looks like the day caught up with us, and we fell asleep on the roof."

Nock [Tracker] 337807

>>337803
Give her a soft smile. "I was worried you might. You haven't spent a night alone in bed yet here, and… you don't have to, if you don't want to."

Think on it a moment.

"Hey Star? Are you up yet?"

Pause when nopony responds.

"Is Star here?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337808

>>337807
"She might still be on her date?"
Hey do I remember what exactly that book on party parts did say about things a stallion and a mare do at night..
'1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

DM 337809

>>337808
Vividly.
Wait, when did you have time to read that?

Nock [Tracker] 337810

>>337808
"The whole night?" A tinge of doubt.

Papaver Field [Mage] 337811

>>337809
I turned in my test early, went to eat quick, helped Star get ready, dropped her off to Jon, met Balsawood for a two minutes chat and then puff, had all the rest of the night free.
>>337810
Widen my eyes.
"Don't you think they…"

Nock [Tracker] 337812

>>337811
"Star wouldn't… but if that stallion pressured her into it–!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337813

>>337812
Scramble up!
'1d10'
"W-well it's Jon! He's nice and caring and.."
Yeah yeah all that.
Get my uniform.
We must run and look for her.

Roll #1 5 = 5

DM 337814

>>337813
You dress up hastily.
Odds are they are still on the roof.

337815

>>337813
Do I keep up?

Roll #0 6 = 6

337816

>>337814
"Nock! We gotta go!"
Double time for the roof.

Roll #0 1 = 1

DM 337817

>>337816
In your massive hurry, you make so much commotion a lot of the other cadets stars wandering out of their rooms to check what the heck is going on.
>>337815
Yes you do

337818

>>337817
>>337817
I'm going to grab Star a fresh uniform from her stack to take with us, then follow Papaver.

Roll #0 7 = 7

Papaver Field [Mage] 337819

>>337817
Oh crap.
Nope nope nope.
Slow down and wait for the others to lose interest. If need be, Nock can check on them alone.

DM 337820

>>337819
A few of them walk up to you
"What's going on?"
"Is there a drill or something?"
>>337818
Looks like she is being questioned by a few fellow cadets

Papaver Field [Mage] 337821

>>337820
"Uh.. No! Pancakes! Hurry before they run out!"
Give them my best Star impression.

337822

>>337820
I'm going to go ahead and get around that crowd and head to the roof.

Roll #0 9 = 9

DM 337823

>>337821
"…uh… you do know the dining hall is the other direction right?"
>>337822
And you'll find those two as soon as they are available

Papaver Field [Mage] 337824

>>337823
"… Is it? I kinda lost orientation…"
Hey I just woke up!
Give them a sheepish smile.

DM 337825

>>337824
"Also, it's in an entirely different building.
…are you high?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337826

>>337825
Arc a brow to him.
"I've been told I'm kinda tall, yes. Why?"

DM 337827

>>337826
>him
"Just don't try to eat any locoweeds here. We don't want this floor associated with that.
…so, pancakes?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337828

>>337827
I blame the patriarchy.
Nod with a huge smile.
"Pancakes! Wanna come?"

DM 337829

>>337828
"Guess that's cool. Let's go then?"

YO WHERE MY STARTS AND STALLIONS AT?

Papaver Field [Mage] 337830

>>337829
Groves might be eating dinner.
"I have a roommate I should wait for…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337831

>>337829
Groves is eating dinner. Should be back soon, though.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337832

>>337806
"We-"
I jump up, immediately awake
"O-oh no! Classes!"

DM 337833

>>337830
"…then why were you running around earlier?"
>>337831
>>337832
>>337822
A MEETUP AT THE ROOF
HOW ROMANTIC

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337834

>>337832
"I think we're safe on that front, since we managed to wake up early, but the real problem is me getting out of the Hammer Dorm."
I'll start collecting the blanket.

Nock [Tracker] 337835

>>337834
>>337832
Burst through the roof door.

"Star Hopper!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337836

>>337833
"Because I just woke up and had a nightmare and missed the food and…"
Hang my head low.
"It was rather silly…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337837

>>337834
"O-oh…"
I calm down slightly

>>337835
Only to jump up and panic again

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337838

>>337835
I'll be startled as well.

DM 337839

>>337836
They giggle at you
"That's… really pretty lame."

Nock [Tracker] 337840

>>337837
Gallop over. "You're alright, aren't you? We were worried when you didn't come back!"

I brought with me a spare uniform in Star's size.

Papaver Field [Mage] 337841

>>337839
Give them a pissed off look.
"Whatever. Who asked for your opinion anyway?"

DM 337842

>>337841
"Hey, no need to get all mad about it."
"It's not our fault your biggest nightmare is not eating pancakes."

Papaver Field [Mage] 337843

>>337842
Perk up and grin at them.
"Shows I'm not afraid of anything!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337844

>>337840
I blush
"O-oh yes… W-we just uh… fell a-asleep on the roof…"
I smile at her sheepishly

Nock [Tracker] 337845

>>337844
Give her a hug, but while I'm by her ear. "He didn't pressure you into anything did he?"

DM 337846

>>337843
"You know, this isn't really something I'd brag about."
"C'mon. Lets go brush up before breakfast."
"Hopefully there will be some left after she's done."
The two leave.
Most others are returning to their rooms too.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337847

>>337845
I look at her with wide innocent eyes
"W-what? Why… w-why would you t-think that? I-I was the one that w-wanted to gaze at the nightsky…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337848

>>337846
Jokes on them, I'm tall, fit and beautiful.
And I eat pancakes.
But yeah, discretely trot over to the roof.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337849

I'll just stand off to the side, fidgeting a bit nervously.
Can I see how little Nock seems to trust my intentions? '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Nock [Tracker] 337850

>>337847
Give her a little squeeze. "I was just worried. That's all."

Appraise the situation. "So how are we going to get Jon out?"

DM 337851

>>337849
You get a hunch…

Papaver Field [Mage] 337852

>>337851
>>337850
I guess I pop up there too, eventually.
"Hey. Managed to get the others off my back."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337853

>>337851
Hrumph.
>>337850
"Well, I was hoping you'd have a plan for that… First thing that came to mind for me is just sneaking out, but that's not going to work, most likely."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337854

>>337850
"Uh…"
I rub the back of neck awkwardly
"I… W-we didn't think we'd fall asleep… n-now everpony is awake and…"
I look at Jon worriedly

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337855

>>337854
I'll shrug at Star.
"No helping it now, I guess."

DM 337856

You may attempt to sneak out, climb down, jump, flag down some of the guards and explain, or stay up here until nightfall and sneak out then.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337857

>>337855
I gulp and look at the ground sadly
"Sorry… t-this is my fault…"

Nock [Tracker] 337858

>>337853
Give him an odd look. "How would I have a plan? I didn't know for sure that you'd be up here. We have a few options, though…"

Pause.

"We could try to disguise you, you could make the walk of shame, or Star could try to lower you with magic… But it's a big fall if she loses concentration… Personally, I wouldn't trust magic with my life. You could die or become crippled from a fall like that."

Papaver Field [Mage] 337859

>>337857
>>337855
"We are gonna fix it. I guess."
>>337858
"Don't say that! Yesterday star levitated me all the way up the roof! She's great!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337860

>>337856
And miss the first day of classes? Not bloody likely.
>>337857
I'll shake my head.
"Nah. I fell asleep too, after all."
>>337858
"Well, I wouldn't be trusting magic, I'd be trusting Star."
I'll think a bit.
"I don't really…enjoy the thought of wearing a mare's uniform, but if you think that's the safest and easiest way…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337861

>>337858
I frown
"H-hey…"

Nock [Tracker] 337862

>>337860
Chortle. "I meant we could try to disguise you as a janitor or a teacher or something, but I guess we do have a spare mare's uniform, if Star is willing to lend it to you."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337863

>>337862
I'll shake my head.
"I think I'm a fair bit too tall for that to work… and why would they put stallion janitors in the mare dorm?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337864

>>337862
I blush bright red at hearing that
"I-I don't think that w-would work…"

Nock [Tracker] 337865

>>337863
"I didn't say it was a good plan, mostly counting on ponies being too tired in the morning, but I guess your idea is probably more practical. We're less than a week in. No one would probably be surprised to see a new mare…"

Sigh. "Whatever the solution, try not to make a habit of it."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337866

>>337865
I'll blush a little at that.
"I'll try."

Papaver Field [Mage] 337867

>>337865
Move closer to her.
"You sure he can pass as a mare with… That face?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337868

Nock [Tracker] 337869

>>337867
"Not really, but my preferred solution is still that he just makes the walk with no disguise. Still, it's better than potentially falling to his death, right?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337870

>>337868
I'll chuckle a little as I walk up next to Star.
"Now, what'd I say about apologizing about things?"
I'll give her a little nudge, too.

Papaver Field [Mage] 337871

>>337869
"I dunno Nock, Star is good with her magic… Last night she had me flying over the roof!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337872

>>337870
I gulp and wipe my forehead.
"Uh… r-right… my b-bad…"
I sigh
"Still… N-now you could be in t-trouble because of me…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337873

>>337872
"Well, no worries about that. I'd rather it's me getting in trouble than you."

Nock [Tracker] 337874

>>337871
"Is it worth risking his life over? It seems reckless…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337875

>>337874
Look sad at the ground.
"Well that's really up to Jon…"
>>337873
"Do you think you could squeeze in my uniform?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337876

>>337875
"Uhm…"
Walking next to Papaver, I'll measure up.
"I don't… think it'd be too comfortable, but maybe?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337877

>>337876
"Well if you really want to sneak out this way, you can try it."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337878

>>337873
"R-really… you d-don't need to protect me…"

>>337875
>>337876
"… Maybe I-I could use my t-telekinesis to float him down…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337879

And then I'll have a flash of inspiration.
"Vera, you're a unicorn, right? If you're worried about the floating me down plan, you could help!"

337880

>>337879
"No I'm not!"
Roll for shock.

Roll #0 9 = 9

Nock [Tracker] 337881

>>337879
Vera? Unicorn? In a dynasty full of magic haters?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337882

>>337880
Okay it's nothing to be shocked about.
"D-do I have something on my head?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337883

>>337880
>>337881
I'm sorry, I forgot. I had the dumb. Blame it being early for Jon. And maybe a weird cowlick for Vera.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337884

>>337882
"S-sorry. It's just…"
I'll point out a rather pronounced cowlick in Vera's mane.
"It's sticking up a little."

Papaver Field [Mage] 337885

>>337884
"I-it's just-"
Oh good, I went out of bed and a stallion saw me without even brushing my mane.
Try to flatten it.
Also, spaghettiroll.
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

DM 337886

>>337885
It won't go down.
Indeed it only becomes more prominent.

Do you have a plan yet?

337887

>>337886
Could I just lift him off the roof with my telekinesis?

Roll #0 1 = 1

337888

>>337887
Can we stop her?

Roll #0 10 = 10

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337889

>>337887
No, evidently not. 3big5me

Nock [Tracker] 337890

>>337887
I WARNED YOU ABOUT THE MAGIC

I WARNED YOU DOG. I TOLD YOU IT WAS DANGEROUS. I TOLD YOU IT WAS RECKLESS. I TOLD YOU THAT YOU WOULD REGRET IT.

YOU COULD HAVE STOPPED THIS. WHY DIDN'T YOU LISTEN? DON'T CALL IT A GRAVE, IT'S A FUTURE YOU CHOSE.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337891

>>337888
I asked the RNG, not actually took an action

DM 337892

>>337887
An explosive pain shoots through your body as you try to lift a target that big.
Also you feel some very inappropriate things in your telekinetic field.
>>337888
You at least stop her from going helpless, or suffering any real damage.
>>337891
2LATE NIGGER

Papaver Field [Mage] 337893

>>337890
Nigga I'll bitchslap.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337894

>>337892
Oh come on
I'll just curl up and whimper then

Papaver Field [Mage] 337895

>>337894
"H–hey Star! How.. What was that? Are you okay?"
Hold her in my hooves.

Nock [Tracker] 337896

>>337894
"Star! I warned you about how dangerous that magic is… Are you alright?"

A genuine look of concern on my face.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337897

>>337893
Why? You do the same all the time
>>337895
I nod weakly
"J-just messed up…"
>>337896
"Really… I-I'm fine…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337898

>>337897
"Are you sure?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337899

>>337898
I nod
"I-it happens s-sometimes…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337900

>>337897
I'm changing I sweapfffff ahahah!
Sigh in relief and let go of her after helping her up.
>>337898
>>337899
"Now what?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337901

>>337899
I'll frown a little at this.
"Just… don't hurt yourself, okay?"
>>337900
"Did you notice if any of your dorm mates were anywhere near my size? I'd hate to ruin your uniform if this doesn't work."

Papaver Field [Mage] 337902

>>337901
"I dunno… And even if they were, they might tell on you!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337903

>>337900
I shakily get back up
"I could try a-again… I know I-I can do it…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337904

>>337903
Give her a worried and scornful expression.
"Don't you think once was enough?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337905

>>337902
I'll shrug.
"It's either that, or I just make a run for it and hope no one notices."
>>337903
"Are you really sure, Star? I trust you, but if you end up hurt again…"

Nock [Tracker] 337907

>>337903
>>337905
"I'm against it. You don't have to prove anything, Star! I don't want either of you to get hurt."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337909

>>337904
"B-but…"

>>337905
"I j-just…"

>>337907
I sigh sadly
"Okay… nevermind t-then…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337913

>>337909
"Don't push yourself after something like that!"
>>337905
"Or just try this on."
Remove my uniform and hoof it to him.
"But you owe me one. Big one, if you ruin it!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337918

>>337913
"N-no, i-it's my fault so I o-owe you o-one…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337922

>>337918
Sigh.
"It was a joke, Star. Don't worry about it."
Go back sitting near the entrance.
"I'm just sad I had to jump out of bed so suddenly."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337934

>>337913
I'll nod.
"Sorry about this…"
And now I'll try to fit into the uniform. '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Papaver Field [Mage] 337937

>>337934
"Looks like you can pull it off. Now we need something for that stallionface of yours.
I mean, what mare would have a face like that?"

DM 337938

>>337934
You can get into it well enough. Not as good as your own, but still nothing ridiculous.
Even the female cut does not cause problems.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337942

>>337938
Still embarrassing, though.
>>337937
I'll shrug.
"Takes all types, I suppose."
pawing at the roof a bit, I'll ask;
"What do I do if we get stopped? Should I practice making my voice different, or just not talk?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337946

>>337922
"W-well-"

>>337938
I blush again

>>337942
"T-this is terrible…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337948

>>337946
I'll blush a bit.
"D-does it look that bad?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 337952

>>337948
"Nah. You fit perfect."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337955

>>337952
I'll blush a bit more at that.
"Not sure if I should be too happy about that…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337956

>>337948
"It's just… I-I feel responsible for this…"

Nock [Tracker] 337958

>>337942
Sigh. "Jon, if they stop you, let me do the talking, okay? You seem like a good stallion. It is the least we can do to help you."

Papaver Field [Mage] 337964

>>337955
Cock a brow questioningly.
"Why not? Now we'll have an easier time sneaking you out."
>>337958
"Do you have some… Hood or something, back in our room?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337966

>>337956
"Well, it's my fault, too, Star."
>>337958
I'll nod.
"Thanks, Nock. I'm in your hooves, it seems."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337971

>>337964
I'll hold out the blanket I brought.
"Well, I've got this, but I think wrapping me up with it would be a bit more suspicious."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 337986

>>337966
"I s-should have p-picked a different spot…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337989

>>337986
"And I should have not let you fall asleep."

Nock [Tracker] 337990

>>337966
>>337989
"Let's get going. There are plenty of big mares here. We'll pass you off as a third year."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 337992

>>337990
I'll raise an eyebrow.
"In a first-year uniform? Well, we can hope nopony's in the halls."

Nock [Tracker] 337996

>>337992
"They use different uniforms for different years? Maybe I should have actually gone to pick up my own! Good save. We'll try to avoid talking at all. Let's go before more ponies get up for breakfast!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338001

>>337996
"So… we just go in a cluster and hope it doesn't look funny and no one sees us? Great. I like this plan. Let's go."

DM 338002

Lets see how busy the halls are
1 crowded
10 empty
'1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

DM 338005

>>338002
Everyone is gone.
The way is open.

Secret things
'1d10'

Roll #1 1 = 1

DM 338007

>>338005
Oh ho ho ho ho~

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338008

>>338001
I sigh and skittishly walk next to him, glancing over occasionally

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338010

>>338002
Oh thank the heavens.
>>338005
Oh damn the hells.
Let's make it quick.

DM 338016

>>338010
>>338008
You return to the halls.
There seems to be nobody here.
You can make a run for it, or get rid of the female uniform first.

338017

>>338016
Scout ahead.
Roll check.

Roll #0 7 = 7

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338019

>>338016
Is there a bathroom? I'd like to quick change if there is. If not, well… is there a closet? '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

Papaver Field [Mage] 338020

>>338017
Spot* check.

DM 338025

>>338019
You could use the girls' room if you want.
>>338017
>>338020
A door is ajar in the hallway

Papaver Field [Mage] 338027

>>338025
Check it of course.
"Anypony here?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338028

>>338025
>>338027
I'll wait for Vera to make sure the coast is clear, first.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338031

>>338025
I fiddle with my hooves nervously
"W-we should hurry…"

DM 338035

>>338027
There is a momentary rustling, but no answer

Papaver Field [Mage] 338037

>>338035
Frown and open the door.
What can I see?
'1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

DM 338045

>>338037
A dorm room.
Its owner is reading on her bed
She walks up and pokes her head out the door
"Yeah?
…who is that?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338048

>>338045
"Uh… Hi!"
Walk in and close the door behind me.
"I'm new and got terribly lost, and seems there's just nopony around!"

LET'S HOPE THE OTHERS TAKE THIS CHANCE!

Nock [Tracker] 338049

>>338019
"It's empty! Let's get out of here, come on, what are we waiting for?"

DM 338051

>>338048
"…there were other right behind you in the hallway."
Someone shouts from the bathroom
"WHO IS IT?"
"SOMEONE NEW WHO GOT LOST!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338053

>>338051
I'll look panicked for a second.
She- what is Papaver doing?
While the door's closed, I'll motion to Nock and Star that we should be making our exit.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338056

>>338051
"Yeah, I asked them, they are first years just like me! I was looking for the stairs to the roof, but can't seem to find them anywhere!"

DM 338058

>>338056
"…the roof is off limits you know."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338060

>>338053
Right behind you

Papaver Field [Mage] 338062

>>338058
Cock my head.
"It is? Oh that's no fun! I always used to pray to the sun on the roof when I was at home!"

Nock [Tracker] 338065

>>338053
I don't need a motion. I'm practically pushing him at this point. GO!

DM 338067

>>338060
>>338056
>>338065
Roll to see how well it goes

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338068

>>338067
'1d10'
Luna hide us.

Roll #1 2 = 2

338070

>>338067
Come on…

Roll #0 7 = 7

DM 338071

>>338068
>>338070
Jon trips on a lump in the carpet, and falls on Star, who quickly drags him up and out before anyone has a chance to see too much.
Rumors may happen though.

You have escaped Hammer Dorm.
Jon is still crossdressing.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338072

>>338071
Time to fix that. There's a closet or shady corner I can change outfits in, right? '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

338074

>>338067

Roll #0 1 = 1

Nock [Tracker] 338075

>>338074
Good thing I waited until they escaped to fail!

DM 338077

>>338072
You toss the uniform off, giving Star a good look at your dazzlingly godlike form, toss your own uniform in the air, leap into it like an agile master of the sensual arts, and in the same motion grab, neatly fold and set down the borrowed uniform.
Smooth as buttered silk, you are.
>>338075
>>338074
Was he wearing your uniform?

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338080

>>338077
I blush bright red at the display

Nock [Tracker] 338081

>>338077
No, he was wearing Vera's or Star's, thankfully.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338082

>>338077
Good thing all she saw was the good side.
"Alright, I think I'm in the clear. Star, I'll see you at breakfast. We should both be able to make it if we hurry. And don't forget, classes start today, so make sure you've got all your gear!"
And off I go.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338085

>>338077
>>338062
But I guess I excused myself and left.
Also, he was wearing my uniform.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338090

>>338082
I nod and head off as well

Time to eat away all this stress…

DM 338091

>>338081
You fall down and tear your uniform.
Roll for where the damage is.
>>338062
>>338085
"Well I hear some ponies go up there to make out. But the point stays. It is off limits for safety reasons. Someone might fall off.
Now please go, I have studies to attend to."
>>338090
Lets see how much food is left
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

DM 338093

>>338091
…not a lot.
And only one pancake.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338097

>>338093
>>338091
That's awful…

I sigh sadly. I guess food is food though, so dig in.

338099

>>338091

Roll #0 3 = 3

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338102

>>338091
After gathering my armor and practice sword from my room, I'll hit the dining hall, just shy of a full run. Is there at least enough food left that I'm not going hungry before lunch/dinner? '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

338105

>>338091
"Y-yes, I'm sorry!"
Walk out and try to find the others, and my uniform too, possibly.

Roll #0 1 = 1

DM 338110

>>338105
You step on your neatly folded uniform.
Roll for damage.
>>338099
Looks like you tore a hole in the butt.
>>338102
Looks like they made some more after Star took all that remained.
You get a good meal.

338111

>>338110
Retreat to my room and get a new one.

Roll #0 7 = 7

338116

>>338110
Ohpleasecelestiano!

Roll #0 5 = 5

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338118

>>338110
Thank goodness. I'll pile it up on my plate, and then find Star and sit with her. '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338122

>>338118
I smile at him momentarily, then continue eating like my life depends on it

DM 338125

>>338111
Good as new. Only time lost.
>>338116
You have a nasty hoofprint on the flank of the uniform now…
>>338118
You spill a bit… On her.

338127

>>338125
Still time for breakfast?

Roll #0 3 = 3

338128

>>338125
Wince a bit, gather the uniform and go back to my room to wear it.
I'm not sure I'm hungry anymore…

Roll #0 4 = 4

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338129

>>338125
Oh no.
"I'm so sorry!"
Did it get on her uniform?

DM 338131

>>338127
Barely…
>>338128
You run into Nock on the way
>>338129
Lets see
1 - on uniform
2 - on her
'1d2'

Roll #1 1 = 1

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338135

>>338131
"Oh no…"

338136

>>338131
Grab what I can! I'll make the most of it.

Roll #0 7 = 7

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338137

>>338129
>>338131
"… i-it's fine… I'll clean i-it up later…"
Keep eating

338138

>>338131
But I still have to wear my uniform!
Sigh. Try to eat something then.

Roll #0 7 = 7

DM 338139

>>338136
>>338138
>>338135
>>338137
And then you ate together.

Nock [Tracker] 338146

>>338139
Break the silence with a sigh.

"That was an eventful morning… certainly got the adrenaline pumping. How was your night?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338151

>>338146
I look at her with a mouth full of food
"Uh… it w-was nice."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338152

>>338146
I'll blush a bit as I answer.
"It was very nice."

338153

>>338146
"I had a nightmare…"
Look down on my plate and play with my food.
That hoofprint on my uniform really slumped me down.

Roll #0 2 = 2

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338156

>>338153
"Thank you for letting me borrow you uniform and distracting those two, by the way. I probably never would have made it out as easily if you hadn't."

338159

>>338156
"Uh. They said the roof is off limits…"
Keep looking at my food.

Roll #0 1 = 1

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338161

>>338159
"Really?"
I'll tilt my head quizzically.
"Then why was it unlocked?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338162

>>338153
>>338159
I carefully poke her with a hoof
'Uh… A-are you going t-to eat t-that?"
Point at her plate

Papaver Field [Mage] 338164

>>338161
Shrug.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338166

>>338162
Try to take a bite, see if the wish to eat returns.
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

DM 338167

>>338159
>>338153
You have drawn some kind of little symbol out of the sauce.
…you get a terrible feeling as you look at it.
Like a piece of your very soul had begun to rot.

Nock [Tracker] 338168

>>338153
Give Vera a sympathetic look.

"Are you going to be alright? Sorry we didn't have time to talk about it this morning. And by the way, I didn't mind…"

I stop. I don't think Papaver would appreciate me mentioning that she woke up grappling me for fear of a dream.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338169

>>338162
>>338166
Nope. Pass her the plate.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338170

>>338169
"Are you okay? Maybe your dream was bad because of nerves?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338173

>>338167
Do I remember the shape?
'1d10'
>>338168
"It's okay Nock. I.. Yeah, I didn't mind either, if you know what I mean."
>>338170
"Could be… I've been having them since I took up the sword instead of the hammer…"

Roll #1 6 = 6

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338174

>>338169
"T-thanks."
Dig in! More food! All that matters right now!

DM 338177

>>338173
No. But perhaps someone with more extensive knowledge in less taught arts would.
Like the Headmaster.
Or someone who has been sneaking in forbidden areas.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338178

>>338173
"Do you remember what the dream was about?"

DM 338188

NEXT TIME ON SLOWQUEST

SLOOOOOOW
MAYBE A CLASS TOO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRuNxHqwazs&feature=player_detailpage#t=41s

Papaver Field [Mage] 338189

>>338178
Shrug again.
"Nope."
>>338177
I was rolling to memorize the symbol, actually.
Perfect then, I'll ask the headmaster. Later.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338205

>>338189
I'll fiddle with my food for a minute.
"Doesn't make much sense to have nightmares just from getting a new weapon…"
I'll think for a moment.
"Maybe… maybe you're giving them to yourself by overthinking about your choice in weapons?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338210

>>338205
"Maybe. Must be this whole thing with my family and hammers."
Rest my head on the table.
"I still think I'm letting them down.."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338212

>>338210
I finish eating and frown a little
"I-I don't t-think you ever could, V-Vera…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338214

>>338210
"Seems to be a common feeling."
I'll slowly work on my breakfast.
"But becoming a paladin, no matter what weapon you use, should be something they'd be proud of regardless, right?"

Nock [Tracker] 338216

>>338210
>>338214
Give her a one-legged hug from my seat. "Yeah, Vera. Besides, they'll still be proud of you! You're learning to become a master-at-arms for close ranged combat, and upholding their traditions of staying away from magic and backstabbing cowardice. That's more than enough for them, I'm sure."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338217

>>338212
"Oh no, it's quite easy really.
I could learn magic, for istance. That would destroy them.
They'd cast me out of home, most likely."
>>338214
"Yeah… I guess.."
>>338216
Perk up a little and give her a small smile.
"Right. As long as I don't act like that pony, Sidus, everything should be fine."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338219

>>338217
>>338216
I shut up immediately again

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338221

>>338217
I'll shoot Papaver a look.
"There's nothing inherently wrong with magic, Vera."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338233

>>338221
Roll my eyes and start speaking in a monotone manner, almost chanting.
"From the start of times, as the first blade was forged to strike the first talon, we never bent our knees to anypony who claimed himself greater than us. In our might, we grew stronger, in our will, we grew harded. And all this, with earth and blood on our mane."
Then, give him a flat look.
"Yeah, that's what my parents taught me. Short version? It means magic is not for us. Ever."

Nock [Tracker] 338234

>>338221
"It is pretty dangerous. You saw what happened on the roof this morning. Sisters be praised that she wasn't trying to lower you down when it happened! I would hate for anything to happen to either of you, you're both close friends."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338242

>>338233
>>338234
I'll just wave a hoof.
"Vera, that's bullheadedness and refusing to change with the times. If we farmers didn't change our growing methods as time goes on, everyone would go hungry as the number of ponies outgrew the food supply. You can't expect a clan to completely shut themselves off from magic forever, it's entirely impossible."
As for Nock's argument…
"That could happen to anyone. It's no different than you or me trying to lower somepony with a rope, and slipping a bit. I know Star would catch me before I hit the ground if that ever happened."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338245

>>338234
"B-but magic is m-my life…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338247

>>338242
"It's a thing of honor. My family believes in it and I want to make them proud!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338250

>>338247
"And if you were in a situation that you had to either die or use magic, which would your family prefer? Which would bring them honor, or make them proud?"

Nock [Tracker] 338252

>>338242
>>338250
Give an annoyed look. "I wouldn't recommend a rope, either, but magic is even more tenuous. Ropes don't disappear because you loose concentration."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338253

>>338250
"Well duh. That's a stupid question."
Look at him with a completely normal expression.
"My death."

338256

>>338252
>>338253
Yeah, I'll just take my leave now… stealthily. Let's go back to my room

Roll #0 3 = 3

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338257

>>338253
I'll shake my head, vaguely disbelieving.
"You can't possibly mean that."

Nock [Tracker] 338261

>>338256
"Where are you going, Star? We have classes soon."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338264

>>338257
"No it's true! Is it so strange?"
>>338256
"Where… What are you doing?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338271

>>338261
I freeze but don't look back
"I… I d-don't feel like g-going anymore…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338274

>>338264
"Yes!"
>>338271
I'll give Star a quick look.
"But you need to change into something clean before classes start! Nock, do you think you can help her with that?"

Nock [Tracker] 338275

>>338271
"Star! You can't skip your first day of class! It's the easiest, and the most fun! Plus we get to go to Spellbreaker sessions together. Won't that be fun? We can learn to undo dangerous magic. You love magic and learning. It's perfect for you."

Nock [Tracker] 338276

>>338274
Nod profusely. "Of course."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338279

>>338275
I'll throw out a small grumble.
"And just who was badmouthing something her friend loves not even a second ago?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338285

>>338275
"I-I don't think I s-should stay…"
Back to the dorm I go

Nock [Tracker] 338290

>>338285
Well I'm following her. Gotta make sure she gets to class in a clean uniform.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338294

>>338274
"No wonder…"
Sigh.
"I just don't know what to tell you. This is what makes my family proud. And I want to make them proud."
>>338285
>>338290
Follow her too.
Also, I have to clean the uniform.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338298

>>338294
I'll just watch them go and sigh.
"They don't even notice what they're doing to Star, do they?"
Sighing again, I'll bus the trays, and head to my first class.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338301

>>338290
>>338294
Stop and turn around when I notice they're following me
"… I-I need s-some time alone… p-please"

Nock [Tracker] 338305

>>338301
"Come on, Star! We care about you. Do you think we would have come up to the roof this morning if we didn't? You love learning. You won't regret this, I promise."

338307

>>338301
"You need to get in shape for class."
Remove my uniform and start scrubbing the hoofmark.

Roll #0 8 = 8

338310

>>338305
>>338307

Roll #0 5 = 5

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338314

>>338310
My eyes start watering a little
"I-I'll never be a paladin a-anyway… I'm just a stupid, fat little c-cleric… A-all I'm good at are s-spells and e-everypony seems to d-distrust them here… w-why bother at all… I-I should just q-quit while I still c-can… S-save the e-embarrassment."

Nock [Tracker] 338322

>>338314
Gasp.

"What?! No!"

Give her the hug. "No! No no no! No!"

"No!"

I don't even know how to respond to so many things I disagree with at once. But maybe the hug was good? '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Nock [Tracker] 338324

>>338322
Nope, apparently frantic hugs that involve saying no over and over are awful. Who would have guessed?

338325

>>338314
Try to fix this.
Hug her.
"Star I… I trust your magic.
Remember last night, you flew me so high I went over the roof! And I was completely in your hoov- horn!
All of me!
I do trust your magic. And you."

Roll #0 6 = 6

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338328

>>338322
I push her away
"N-no. S-stop toying with m-me like that. I'm sick of being p-pushed around constantly. It's been g-going on all my life and I-I'm so, so sick of it."

>>338325
Again I push her away, breathing heavily
"And s-still you talk about it like some disease! I-I'm sorry I can't fight like you can, okay!? I'm not b-brave or strong like y-you are, s-so I have to make d-do with cowardly m-magic!"

338338

>>338328
"I… I don't! I respect you Star! I really do! And in these four days you and Leaf showed me that magic can be much more!
It's just, I don't want to betray my parents! They mean the world to me!"
Try to keep it together.

Roll #0 3 = 3

Nock [Tracker] 338340

>>338328
"You could be strong! The door is open, you need only walk through it, Star. You think I'm strong? Do you think I'd stand any more a chance against a real foe than you, magic or not? That's what we're at this academy for."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338344

>>338338
"Y-You'd rather die than make use of magic, V-Vera? F-for honour? F-for your family? H-how do you think that makes m-me feel? Hearing t-that? D-does that m-mean I can't use healing s-spells on you either?"

>>338340
"T-that's… That's not the p-point! I-I should j-just go to the m-mage academy instead s-so I don't get s-spat on for once for u-using magic…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338352

>>338344
Grow angrier.
"I don't know Star, how does that make you feel? I have a duty to my family. A something. I don't want to throw it away.
But I'm not telling you I don't like your magic or I don't like you. This is just so stupid! You are making this a personal matter, when it is not!"

Nock [Tracker] 338357

>>338344
Sigh. "Being a paladin is about not choosing the easy way out. It's about becoming the one who bears the difficult path for the sake of everyone."

Pause. "I genuinely think you would make a great paladin, Star. I've seen how you care for others… but you're right. Only you can make that choice."

Another pause. "Maybe I should give you some time alone to yourself to decide. It's more important you come to that decision than attend one measly class."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338379

>>338352
"It hurts, t-that's how. I-I know I'm n-not a brave pony… B-But I was born a unicorn and t-taught magic s-since I was a filly. I-I know your family t-thinks that's cowardly, b-but you don't need to rub it in a-all the t-time!"

>>338357
"H-how am I supposed to t-train when everypony t-thinks my s-special talent is dangerous and l-lowly? W-when nopony seems t-to trust m-my skills?"

Nock [Tracker] 338383

>>338379
"Star, you can train by going to class. That's what I meant by 'the door is open'. Spellbreaker? That's magic. That's your talent."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338384

>>338379
"But I don't! That's just how I choose to fight! You showed me that magic can be a great thing!
For Celestia's sake, Nock would still have the scars if it wasn't for you!
I'd have never felt what it is like to fly! Or to hold a sword made of pure energy in my hooves!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338412

>>338383
>>338384
"A-and still you insult m-my magic constantly…"
I take a step back
"I-it feels l-like you're just toying with m-my feelings…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338422

>>338412
"I never insulted your magic! I…"
Argh!
"I don't even know what to say anymore!"
Sit down on the floor.
"Magic, I don't want to use.
But I like it.
I like to see other ponies toy with it, thinker with it.
It's not the coolest thing in the world, but I don't hate it!"

Nock [Tracker] 338426

>>338412
>>338422
Too frustrated with this pity party, I'm going to class.

"No one's toying with you, Star. You're choosing to take offense. You can become great any time you want, you just have to go to class. It's the reason your parents sent you here."

That's it. I've said my peace.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338449

>>338422
"I-it sure felt that w-way the way you talked about it…"

>>338426
"I-I came here on m-my own… T-to try and help p-ponies and learn more about m-magic… I don't w-wan't to be great…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338452

>>338449
"Well I did not mean it that way. And this is silly. I even told you just last night how much I appreciated your magic."
Give her a crossed expression.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338457

>>338452
"It j-just hurts to hear how even d-death is a better option than m-magic, okay? Can't y-you see that?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338459

>>338457
"But it's not death better than magic! I said that death is better than dishonoring my parents!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338470

>>338459
"B-by using magic! L-like it's s-some kind of a t-terrible crime!"
I sigh and turn away
"I-I just want to b-be alone so I-I can think peacefully…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338472

>>338470
Sigh.
"Fine."
Put my cleaned uniform back on and catch up with Nock.

338481

>>338472
I sigh as well and hop onto bed, lying on my back and gazing at the ceiling while trying to calm down

Roll #0 3 = 3

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338482

>>338481
Looks like I burst into treats

Nock [Tracker] 338487

>>338472
Give her a weak smile as she approaches.

"I didn't know what to say… sorry. She can be so difficult sometimes. For me, at least."

338491

>>338487
"Y-yeah I've kind of seen that… She took it like it was such a personal matter…"
Try to smile back.
Roll to see how well I'm holding together.

Roll #0 5 = 5

Nock [Tracker] 338496

>>338491
I trot alongside in silence for a moment, then speak up. "I'm sorry you had a nightmare. I thought that maybe that was the reason you hadn't slept alone since you arrived here. But… I'm glad I was able to be there for you."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338498

>>338491
Yeah I'll go ahead and call that a fail.
>>338496
"N-no, don't bring that up now.. It was nice having you there…"
Can I try to go in for a hug?
'1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Nock [Tracker] 338500

>>338498
A hug from you is like DC3. I'll take it. '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

Papaver Field [Mage] 338504

>>338500
That's some critical hugging you are doing there.
"I should not be moping around like this.."

Nock [Tracker] 338514

>>338504
"You're right. Enough gloomy talk for one day. We should be excited. We're new recruits. Our whole lives are ahead of us here."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338519

>>338514
"Y-yeah. We should."
Well I guess now it's safe for me to relax.
Sit down and give Nock a soft smile.
"There is one thing I regret about running up to look for Star this morning.."

Nock [Tracker] 338522

Papaver Field [Mage] 338523

>>338522
"I had to move from that cozy matress."
Chuckle a bit.
It's nothing serious, after all.

Nock [Tracker] 338529

>>338523
Give her a grin. "We can enjoy our mattress when we sleep in on the weekend."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338531

>>338529
Roll not to blush.
'1d10'
Why the hell do I even feel like blushing?
"S-stop, it's not.."

Roll #1 7 = 7

Nock [Tracker] 338588

>>338531
Cock a brow. "You weren't looking forward to sleeping in?"

Then a slight smile. "Then you were cozy for a different reason. Well, as I said, if you're worried about more fitful sleep, I will be there for you any night you want."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338589

>>338588
Well I guess I should just relax. This kind of thing must be completely normal for her.
"Well… Thanks."
Give her a smile.
"It's good to know I can rely on you. Star is.. Not exactly the best pony to go to, if something's wrong.."

Nock [Tracker] 338590

>>338589
Return it. "I know I can rely on you, too."

Since we're supposed to go to class at this point, do you want to timewarp, or go to the class? Former might be easier lacking DM intervention.

338592

AND THEN THEY WENT TO CLASS. BUT.
IN THE AFTERNOON, AFTER THE FIGHT AGAINST SIDUS…
I'll still be in the training field throwing swords around, a bit angrier, but with a confident smirk.

Roll #0 9, 4, 3, 1, 3 = 20

Nock [Tracker] 338593

>>338592
Happen by the fields on my way back from the Inquisitorial building.

"Papaver!" Trot over. Seeing her latest throws and how far they are from the targets… "Maybe you ought to take a break, Vera."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338594

>>338593
"No way. I have to hit something. I really do. That… Idiot made me almost lose it."

Nock [Tracker] 338595

>>338594
Scrunch. "Another run-in with Sidus? I'm sorry I was busy."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338596

>>338595
"A shame, really. You missed two victorious fights one after the other. And his fit when he lost the second time in a row. Priceless."

Nock [Tracker] 338597

>>338596
Smile. "I knew you'd beat him. Those who follow the path of the righteous shall have their reward."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338598

>>338597
Smirk at her.
"Too bad you were not around to see it. That would have made it even better."

Nock [Tracker] 338599

>>338598
Chuckle. "Well, I'll have to be around next time you beat him. In the mean time, can I make up for it somehow?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338600

>>338599
Bring my greatsword up to bear with her.
"Fight me."
A grin across my face.
"Fight me like you mean it. There is something I need to know."

Nock [Tracker] 338601

>>338600
Hesitate.

"It's not that I'm afraid to fight. I'm eager for it, in fact, but…"

Pause briefly. "Didn't you say that implies something in Eaglecrest? To challenge somepony like that?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338602

>>338601
Keep the sword high, eyes burning, grin wide.
"That's just what I want to know."

Nock [Tracker] 338603

>>338602
"Papaver, I'm flattered, but you have to know… I can't do this if it's going to be like Eaglecrest. So we play for keeps. No straying just because someone stronger walks along. Can you live with that?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338604

>>338603
Clench the hilt of the sword tighter.
So it meant something for her too..
"Be I damned if I ever let anypony take you away from me!"

Nock [Tracker] 338605

>>338604
Give a coy smile and draw my bow.

Initiative. '1d10'

Initiative.
If you win initiative, will you be in Near or Far range?

Roll #0 1 = 1

Let's open fancy. Trick shot! '1d10+3'

Roll #1 10 + 3 = 13

338608

>>338607
Be I damned.
Can I at lest take that with pride?

Roll #0 9 = 9

Nock [Tracker] 338609

>>338608
Apparently so. You perform a series of masterful feints and put up an impressive guard, but there's absolutely nothing you can do to avoid the piercing shot that breaks through your defenses. It hits you like a ton of bricks!

Follow that up with another shot! Loose the arrow! '1d10+1'

Roll #1 10 + 1 = 11

338610

>>338609
Damnit! Try to dodge that, charge her!

Roll #0 10 = 10

Nock [Tracker] 338611

>>338610
You draw the attention of a crowd of students, even some third and fourth years, with your amazing acrobatics, flipping back and fourth and trying to move forward with perfect evasion. Against anypony else, it would have been more than enough, but my keen eye times a shot perfectly to catch you once again in a weak spot.

Aha! Is now my chance? '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Nock [Tracker] 338612

>>338611
+1 because Vantage

338613

>>338611
>>338612
Not for the life of me! Try to close the distance!

Roll #0 10 = 10

338614

>>338613
From a wounded body rises a burning spirit.
Taking my eyes off the bow I just charge towards her, stepping aside from where I imagine she'd hit, her arrow landing just a meter away from me.
But it is too late, the sword strikes her side, and the two of us are close again.

I go for one more hit.

Roll #0 5 = 5

Nock [Tracker] 338615

>>338614
Not so fast! I can still handle myself in close quarters. '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

338616

>>338615
The difference in training shows. As she would excel in long range, Papaver insted overpowers her in melee, striking one more fair hit with her weapon.

"I knew you meant it!"
Strike again.

Roll #0 1 = 1

Papaver Field [Mage] 338617

>>338616
And I'm helpless.

338618

>>338616
>>338617
Use my bow to whip her back.

Roll #0 5 = 5

Nock [Tracker] 338619

>>338618
>>338616
After a thrilling display of two rapid slashes, pushing me back, I duck down and, as Papaver comes down with blade from above, I rise up and impact her at the throat with the wood of my bow, knocking her onto her back. The accumulated crowd gives a cheer at the maneuver.

I point my bow at the downed warrior and remark, "Yield?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338620

>>338619
"…I deluded you. I'm not worthy."
Bow my head in shame.

Nock [Tracker] 338621

>>338620
I give her a smile and tut softly before grabbing her hoof and pulling her up.

"I said we play for keeps. Are you denying me my prize?"

338622

>>338621
With tear-filled eyes, smile at her.
Then, run in for an embrace, throw myself around her neck.

Roll #0 7 + 2 = 9

338623

Return the hug with full force.

Roll #0 9 + 2 = 11

Tell me when you are ready for class

338625

I'm in our room, still upset.

Can I calm down?

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338626

Slightly.
Which class is up?

Papaver Field [Mage] 338627

>>338624
I was heading towards class with my uniform cleaned up.

Sidus [Rogue] 338628

>>338624
I think I am.
Maybe
Possibly

DM 338629

>>338626

First class is Magic Theory.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338630

>>338629
Oh joy. I got one on that test.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338631

>>338624
Oh good, I didn't miss too much.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338632

>>338629
Oh… well in that case…

Put on a new uniform, wipe away the tears and splash some water on my face. Then leave for magic class. Maybe that'll calm me down further…

Sidus [Rogue] 338633

>>338629
Magic is for dweebs.
Is it obligatory?

DM 338634

>>338633
Yes it is. Unless you want to get creamed by the first mage you fight because you have no idea how he is throwing burning ice explosions at you.
>>338630
>>338631
>>338632
The students are gathering in a big lecture hall.
Two teachers are present at the front

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338635

>>338634
Sit down alone somewhere at the front of the room

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338636

>>338634
Can I see anyone I know? '1d10'
And are there any seats open near them? 'r2 1d10'

Well I should find a seat.
Move towards Star thou.
"H-hey…"

DM 338638

>>338636
Quit ogling. It's very rude.
Star is over yonder. >>338635

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338639

I look down
"… H-hi…"

Sidus [Rogue] 338640

>>338634
Bah.
Find a place then.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338641

>>338639
"L-look about earlier… I won't talk about magic ever again, okay?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338642

>>338638
I'll move up if there are any free seats.
Though… can I tell how awkward it is between Papaver and Star? '1d10'
If yes, I'll just sit behind them instead of next to Star.

Sit where ever you like.
Burning is walking along
"Should we sit with your roommate… or would you prefer to just sit with me someone~?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338645

>>338642
Nope! I'll plunk down right next to Star, opposite of Papaver.

Sidus [Rogue] 338646

>>338644
I sit next to her.
"I'm not in the mood for others."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338647

>>338641
>>338643
I let out a weak sigh
"N-no… I'm s-sorry… I w-was out of l-line… you didn't d-deserve that…"
I sniff
"I've b-been a terrible f-friend…"

>>338645
"Oh… H-hi Jon…"

DM 338648

>>338646
"…what's wrong?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338649

>>338647
"Hi again. Are you doing alright? Ready for your first magic theory class?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338650

>>338647
Place a hoof over her shoulder.
"Ush. It's alright. I said bad things too."
Smile at her, then sit down.

Sidus [Rogue] 338651

>>338648
Look away.
"I don't want to talk about it."

DM 338652

>>338651
"…please?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338653

>>338649
I nod weakly but say nothing

>>338650

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338654

>>338653
Oh it seems they had a fight…
I'll nod back at Star, and then studiously tune out the conversation they're having. '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

Papaver Field [Mage] 338655

>>338653
"I've already forgotten it, silly. I guess saying all those things about magic was rude too."

Sidus [Rogue] 338656

>>338652
I sigh, then lean back in the chair.
"I feel betrayed. My weapons rack failed and my sword hit me on my head I slept."

DM 338657

>>338656
"You're not hurt are you?"

Sidus [Rogue] 338658

>>338657
"It was only the hilt."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338659

>>338655
I sigh
"I-I just don't k-know w-what to do anymore… I'm feeling s-so… conflicted."

DM 338660

>>338658
"…and you're sure that's all that's wrong?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338661

>>338659
"About being a paladin?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338662

>>338661
"About m-magic…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338663

>>338662
Sigh and hang my head low.
"Don't let me and Nock change your mind. I like magic. Just, I can't use it. And Nock likes it too, she only fears ponies misusing it."

Sidus [Rogue] 338664

>>338660
"Yeah. But don't you see? My own weapons! Hurting me! This is a bad omen…"

338665

>>338663

"Hmp. Well… ok."
She pats your head
"There. All better?"

Sidus [Rogue] 338669

>>338668
I smile at her.
"Yeah… do you know when we'll have interesting classes though? I'm not that high on magic."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338670

>>338667
I fiddle with my hooves nervously and droop my ears
"S-sorry…"

DM 338671

>>338669
"Well, combat theory was scheduled for the evening, and I think we have History after lunch."

Sidus [Rogue] 338672

>>338671
"Mhm… What's your take on magic?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338673

>>338670
"Don't apologize every time you do something!"
Look distressed towards Jon.
"Help me out here!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338674

>>338673
"What?"
I'll look a bit startled at being brought into the conversation.

DM 338675

>>338672
"It is important to know your enemy. Even if you do not wield their weapons, understanding them gives you an edge in battle."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338676

>>338674
"She keeps apologizing when it's my fault too!"

Sidus [Rogue] 338677

>>338675
"Why not just break their horns?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338678

>>338673
I wince a little, only barely suppressing the urge to say sorry again. Not knowing what to say, I just close my eyes and hang my head low

DM 338679

>>338677
"Because not all spellcasters are unicorns?
I mean, magic catalysts are not exactly uncommon.
And I remember hearing some of the old mages of the North even figured out a way to cast with just your skin"

Sidus [Rogue] 338680

>>338679
"Hm… still, magic is not worth anything against skill in the end. A weapon will always ovecrome it."

DM 338681

>>338680
"I'd like to think that, but even the Princess employs a magical honour guard…"

Sidus [Rogue] 338682

>>338681
"Honour guard! Not elite-guard-guard!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338683

>>338676
"Oh."
I'll chuckle.
"Yeah, she does."
I'll give Star a friendly little nudge.
"We'll have to work on apologizing for doing nothing wrong during our training sessions."
I'll rub my nose a bit.
"That is, if you don't think they'd be a trouble to have."

DM 338684

>>338682
"Well I don't know how they rank, exactly. All I know is she employs a large unicorn corps that employs magic heavily.
And so did the old mage-king of the north.
…what do you have against magic?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338685

>>338683
Nod vigorously.
"That would be great! I already told her but she won't listen!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338697

"We're talking later, alright?"
And then I'll turn back to the front and wait for the lesson to start.
>>338695
Real helpful, aren't you then?

DM 338698

"Welcome, everypony, to Spell Theory. I am Layline, the head magic teacher."
"And I'm Glossy Wards, the antimagic specialist trainer. Would all those who have signed up for Antimagic and Spellbreaking please stand up?"

Lets assume Nock did it too.

"Good. I'll be seeing all of you in my class tomorrow at noon."
"Thank you mr. Wards. Right. Lets get right into this then.
First up, those who wield magic around here, please stand up, those who want to learn, raise a hoof, those who want to learn to fight against magic can remain seated, and those who are only here because they have to, please come on down here and dance for us to keep yourselves entertained."

Sidus [Rogue] 338705

"That's… quite a surprising one! But sure, it's a spell like any other, if more primal and less refined than most."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338708

>>338704
Guess I'll do absolutely nothing.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338709

>>338704
I'll stay seated for the moment.
"You'll be fine, Star," I'll whisper. "Mr. Ward seems pleasant enough."

Sidus [Rogue] 338710

>>338707
"Hm… a stronger telekinesis might mean more weapons I can hold or use at the same time…"

Guess I'll just a raise a hoof, then nudge Heart.
"This class might not be so useless after all. I thought it would be all about flinging fancy balls of magic."

DM 338711

"Alright, thank you, please sit back down.
Now then. I've seen your test scores, and though some of you will need some special attention, the overall level was quite good. So that means LESS HOMEWORK FOR ALL! Off to a great start, aren't we?
Anyway, if there are any other questions, I can answer them now before I begin the lecture. The subject of the first day is Catalyst Theory."

Sidus [Rogue] 338712

>>338711
Just keep listening.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338713

>>338711
I quickly sit back down

Papaver Field [Mage] 338714

>>338711
Raise my hoof.
"What happens to those who have failed the magic test?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338715

>>338711
I've no questions.

DM 338716

>>338714
"You'll be getting some after-class lessons."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338717

>>338716
Ouch.
Sulk into my chair.
No more questions.

DM 338718

>>338712
>>338713
>>338715
>>338717
"Right. Onto the lecture then.
Before we talk about spellcasting in general, it is important to know that regardless of school of magic, origin or type, all spellcasters use some form of Catalyst.
Catalysts come in many forms. Most commonly wands or staves. The horns of Unicorns also act as a natural version.
However, other types are almost equally common, from clothing to trinkets and even tattoos.

Catalysts base their power on a system of runes, which is based on the needs of each particular school of magic. Traditionally, a Catalyst is based on an object of great importance to the user, but it can also be something else. The emotional connection simply helps with channeling energy.

This is important to know, since whether it be you, or your enemy, who is casting, all spellcasting needs a Catalyst.
Keep that in mind."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338719

>>338718
I already know this stuff, but write everything he says down anyway

338720

>>338718
How interested am I in catalysts?
I mean, not like I'll ever need one. And I'm not gonna maim my opponent by breaking their catalyst.
That would be like breaking a leg off a fighter.

Roll #0 2 = 2

Sidus [Rogue] 338721

>>338718
I know all that.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338722

>>338718
I'll be keeping notes as well. rolling for quality '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

DM 338723

>>338720
>>338719
>>338721
>>338722
And then the lecture went on, detailing the various runic formulas for each school of magic, material specifications and notes on remarkable catalysts such as Castle Northscrown and the Torch-Staff of Singebrow.
"And that concludes the lesson. You may leave if you have no further questions."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338724

>>338723
Urgh no. I am bored out of my mind.
Wait for Star thou.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338725

>>338723
I'll finish up, and wait for Star as well.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338726

>>338723
Pack my stuff and leave

Sidus [Rogue] 338727

>>338723
Nudge Heart.
"Ready to leave?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338728

>>338726
Well follow her.
"Hey Star, I wanted to go see the headmaster about something. Wanna come?"

DM 338729

>>338727
"Sure~"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338730

>>338728
"U-uh…"
I look at Jon

Papaver Field [Mage] 338731

>>338730
Look from one to the other.
"Oh. Right. Sure, don't worry!"
Give her a big smile and trot off to the Headmaster's quarters.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338732

>>338731
"W-wait!"
Trot after her
"I-I should c-come too… M-maybe Jon c-can t-tag along?"

Sidus [Rogue] 338733

>>338729
Stand up and start leaving.
"So we have some free time now, right?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338734

>>338732
"Of course, why couldn't he?"

DM 338735

>>338733
"I think so. History is after lunch and Combat is in the afternoon."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338736

>>338734
"I d-don't know… m-maybe it's s-something you w-wanted t-to keep p-private?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338737

>>338734
>>338735
Let's say the duel happens before lunch?
>>338736
"Well.. It's about that thing. I have no problems telling Jon. Do you?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338738

>>338737
I shake my head

Sidus [Rogue] 338739

>>338737
Let's say

Papaver Field [Mage] 338740

>>338738
Smile at her.
"Then it's only up to him!"

DM 338741

So are we warping to after the duel?

Papaver Field [Mage] 338742

>>338741
I wanted to have a quick talk with the Headmaster about the symbol I saw in the food.

Sidus [Rogue] 338743

>>338741
>>338742
Well let her do that first.

DM 338744

>>338742
Well he is in his office.
The secretary greets you
"Yes?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338745

>>338744
"I… We should speak with the Headmaster. Is about something he told us about the other day."

DM 338746

>>338745
"He is quite busy tod-"
"Please. Do come in."
The headmaster's door opens

Papaver Field [Mage] 338747

>>338746
I don't like this secretary already.
Step inside.
Bow respectfully.
"Sir headmaster, sir, t-there is something I was concerned about. A symbol I saw in my dreams…"
Keep bowing.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338748

>>338747
I do the same, shaking slightly

DM 338749

>>338747
Even though he is on the other side of the room, you can feel him looming over you
"Tell me more of this symbol."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338750

I'll have tried to catch up with Star and Papaver.

DM 338751

>>338750
The secretary glares at you as you pass her and enter the Headmaster's room

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338752

>>338751
I'll give her a small shrug and a smile.

338753

>>338749
"Uh…" I'll try to sketch it out on paper.
Do I have to roll?

Roll #0 8 = 8

DM 338754

>>338753
The headmaster levitates it over
"…and you say you saw this in your dreams?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338755

>>338754
"Well, more like in my nightmares… Been getting them since I've come here. I was blaming it on being homesick but…"

DM 338756

>>338755
"Do you have a history of visions, premonitions or other such skills?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338757

>>338756
Strongly shake my head.
"I'm.. Should I worry sir?"

DM 338758

>>338757
"Worry?
That will hardly change things.
…I believe you were the one without a cutie mark?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338759

>>338758
Wince.
"W-what does that ha-"
Stop and calm down.
Let out a sigh.
"Sir, yes sir."

DM 338760

>>338759
"Hm. Yes. That would make sense to a degree.
Yet your family background offers no real help either. Most curious…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338761

>>338759
>>338760
I look completely confused by now

Papaver Field [Mage] 338762

>>338760
"Is there something I should know about the symbol or what is happening, sir?"
Celestia I wish I had come to him.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338763

>>338761
And I'll give voice to that confusion.
"So… what exactly are we talking about here?"

DM 338764

>>338762
>>338763
>>338761
"That symbol appears on a very special item I keep in this academy.
And as far as I know… nowhere else."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338765

>>338764
"Sir is this… Sir, I am concerned."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338766

>>338764
I'll raise an eyebrow.
"And that is, Headmaster?"

DM 338767

>>338765
"There is no need. Even if this was not a coincidence, there is little to nothing we could do to find out more.
But do not worry. I have no reason to believe you are in direct danger."
>>338766
"That, Cadet Apple, is none of your business. Or indeed the business of any of the students."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338768

>>338767
"If this thing you keep in the academy poses any danger to my friends, Headmaster, it becomes my business. Even if it's slight."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338769

>>338767
Droop my hears.
"O-okay… I mean, Sir, thank you, sir."
Salute.
"Am I dismissed, sir?"

DM 338770

>>338768
"No, Apple, it is not. Perhaps if you prove your purity and devotion in the coming years, you, too, may be selected to join those who are allowed to see, and guard, my collection. Until then, it is none of your business."
>>338769
"Yes. But return to me if these nightmares continue.
Dismissed, miss Field."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338771

>>338767
I gulp and step forward
"B-but… w-what if this item is i-important to us… without us a-actually knowing? S-sometimes certain items, thoughts or experiences c-can generate lost m-memories in c-cases of memory loss… Granted, t-this isn't the s-same… but still…"

DM 338772

>>338771
"You are in no way or form ready for what that symbol resides upon."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338773

>>338770
I'll frown a bit at that, but I'll stick around until Star's finished.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338774

>>338770
Ready to timewarp.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338775

>>338772
I take a step back again, head hung low
"O-okay… if y-you say s-so…"

DM 338776

>>338775
"That I do. If that was all, dismissed.
I need to think…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338777

>>338776
I bow and back out of the room

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338778

>>338777
I'll follow.

DM 338779

>>338777
>>338778
>>338774
WARP-O

welcome to when you need to be. Probably after the fight.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338780

>>338779
How much time before the next class?

Papaver Field [Mage] 338781

>>338779
After both the fights.
Too bad Nock is not here now~
So what classes do we have, if we had the fight as soon as we were done with the Headmaster?

DM 338782

>>338780
>>338781
There is lunch, then history, then a break, then combat theory, then dinner and bed

Sidus [Rogue] 338783

>>338782
Go to the lunch thing.
There must be something wrong with the universe.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338784

>>338782
Hm.
Well, let's do lunch, then. Perhaps Star and I can have a little chat during.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338785

>>338782
LUNCH!

Papaver Field [Mage] 338786

>>338782
Well I could go fetch Balsawood during lunch…
Bring him to our table and all.

DM 338787

>>338786
You locate the second year paladin and drag him along
"What's this about?"
>>338783
You find Burning there
"…are you ok? You look upset."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338788

>>338787
Show him the symbol, conveniently drawn on a napkin.
"You recognize this?"

Sidus [Rogue] 338789

>>338787
"No, I am not okay!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338790

After I've gotten my food, I'll pick out a decent table, and wave Star over.

338791

>>338787
Eat eat eat!

Roll #0 4 = 4

DM 338792

>>338788
"Not at a glance, no. What is it?"
>>338789
"…wanna talk about it?"

Sidus [Rogue] 338793

>>338792
'1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338794

>>338791
I'll let her eat a bit, and then speak.
"Star, about earlier today before magic class… you weren't fine at all, were you?"

Sidus [Rogue] 338795

>>338793
>>338792
"There replicas. They're not worth shit!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338796

>>338792
"Something. Something that should be only on one object the headmaster keeps hidden away."

DM 338797

>>338795
"You had trouble with the replicas? Did they break?"
>>338796
"Hidden away?
…you mean in his collection?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338798

>>338794
I momentarily stop eating and glance at him
"… uh… well… I-I was j-just a little emotional…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338799

>>338797
"Yeah, he meantioned that."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338800

>>338798
"I know you were upset about what Vera and Nock were saying this morning at breakfast… did you three get in a fight?"

Sidus [Rogue] 338801

>>338797
"No, they are just… they were bad! I lost two fights today! Two! Lost! ME! How else could that be?!"

DM 338802

>>338799
"Incredible. I had to eavesdrop countless times to even be sure it exists"
>>338801
"You know… it's ok to lose sometimes. Just because you lose does not mean you need to blame someone, or something."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338803

>>338800
I look at him again, just staring for a moment, before letting out a sigh and nodding
"Y-yeah… i-it was my f-fault…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338804

>>338802
"Well do you know what's in there? Where it is?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338805

>>338803
I'll shake my head.
"No, Star, it wasn't. It's alright to get mad when ponies talk badly about something you care for."
Thinking for a moment, I'll continue.
"When's the last time you actually got angry? The last time you yelled, or just vented at somepony?"

Sidus [Rogue] 338806

>>338802
"No, it is not! Especially because I've beaten her before!"

DM 338807

>>338804
"It is the Headmaster's personal collection. I do not know what exactly is there, since I was never able to get in alone."
>>338806
"Maybe she improved?
Or maybe she was unlucky last time?"

Sidus [Rogue] 338808

>>338807
"Are you saying she's a better fighter than me? Because clearly she isn't!… with my own weapons I would have took her head clear off with that blow…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338809

>>338807
"Okay. I know I will regret this."
Sigh.
"How hard will it be to get in there?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338810

>>338805
I close my eyes in shame
"E-earlier today… I got m-mad at them b-because… they said m-magic is for cowards…"
I hang my head low
"And I a-am a c-coward… s-so I got upset…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338811

>>338810
I'll shake my head again.
"How does standing up for something you like make you a coward? It takes a lot of courage to tell your friends to go stuff themselves, Star. Because that's what real friends do. They have fun, they argue, and sometimes they fight. But at the end of it all, they come back together and have a laugh about it later. Vera came back, after all, didn't she?"
I'll place my hoof along her cheek and give her a smile.
"And if she hadn't, I would have had to beat some sense into her head. As somepony does when their friend makes a huge mistake."

DM 338812

>>338808
"It's not always about winning Sidus…"
>>338809
"Alone? Impossible. With competent aid… difficult but doable."

Sidus [Rogue] 338813

>>338812
"Yes it is! You get better with winning, not losing!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338814

>>338812
"Be frank. How likely are we to get expelled if we are caught?"

DM 338815

>>338813
"But if you learn from your mistakes, then you won't make them again, meaning you have improved, and this gotten better."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338816

>>338811
I sigh
"I-I just don't know w-what to think anymore… Friendship i-is hard…"

Sidus [Rogue] 338817

>>338815
"But… She won against me! It's impossible! I'm better than her!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338818

>>338816
I'll give a small laugh.
"It is, isn't it?"
Returning to my food, I'll give Star a little wink.
"Just remember that if you every need somepony to yell at, or complain to, I'm here for you."

DM 338819

>>338814
"Absolutely. Without any question. We'll be lucky to get off with that little."
>>338817
"And did you learn from what you did wrong?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338820

>>338818
I nod sheepishly
"O-okay…"
Get back to eating

Sidus [Rogue] 338821

>>338819
"I… I was sort of angry and tried to overpower the sword of an earth pony… but she was a mare!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338822

>>338819
"Yeah, I will have to think about it then."
Part ways, take the napkin back and find something to eat.
'1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

DM 338823

>>338821
She gives you a disapproving look
"That's not how a great pony talks!"

DM 338824

>>338822
"You do that. But now that I know this much… I'll have to at least try. With or without you."
You can now join the others

Sidus [Rogue] 338825

>>338823
"It's just… I know I couldn't rival an earth pony stallion in raw strenght, but I thought I could a mare!"

DM 338826

>>338825
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

Papaver Field [Mage] 338827

>>338824
What does he know, a symbol emblazed across an unknown object in someplace he already knew existed?
Yeah I told him so much!
Let's join Star and Jon.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338828

>>338820
I'll eat as well. Have to have plenty of energy for combat theory later.
…just hope I don't sleep through History. I did decent on the test, so maybe I'll be fine.

DM 338829

>>338826
She slaps you, than huffs
"What's the damn difference!?"
>>338827
You awoke an old desire in him.
You stirred a demon of the past.

Sidus [Rogue] 338830

>>338829
"Hey! I wasn't judging, but shouldn't mares supposed to be less bulky?!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338831

>>338829
I will have to talk about this with the others.
ready for next event.

DM 338832

>>338830
"Hmph. I suggest you go read up on some famous mare paladins before flapping your big head like that.
…sorry. That was a little… harsh of me…"

Sidus [Rogue] 338833

>>338832
I snort.
"If I wanted to listen to insults, I would have talked to the battlemater… I'll eat alone this lunch."

DM 338834

>>338833
"…don't play the victim at me. You're the one who started it…"
She hangs her head

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338835

>>338827
"So, what was that about earlier? The thing you needed to show the headmaster?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338836

>>338835
"You remember this morning when I talked about nightmares? That's all I can remember from them."

Sidus [Rogue] 338837

>>338834
"You thought I was mocking mares and slapped me. I don't need this right now. Have a nice lunch."

Walk away.

>>338837
'1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338839

>>338835
>>338836
I just keep eating in silence

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338840

>>338836
I'll nod.
"So we're not just going to leave it at that, are we?"

DM 338841

>>338837
>>338838
She sighs and leaves the dining hall.
She has something in mind, and wants to get it done sooner rather than later.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338842

>>338840
Fiddle with my hooves.
"I might kinda have done something rushed thou…"

Sidus [Rogue] 338843

>>338841
And then I get my food.
Is it at least tasty?
'1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338844

>>338842
"How so? It's not like you're planning on breaking into the Headmaster's collection, right?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338845

>>338844
"I am not…"

DM 338846

>>338843
It's a little so-so.
Whether it's the food or the fact that your one friend seemed very upset at you, is hard to say.

NEXT TIME ON UNDERAGE HORSE QUEST: HURT FEELINGS EDITION

COMBAT THEORY
NIGHTLY SHENANIGANS
AND SKILL CLASSES

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338847

>>338845
"Well, that's good. Especially since the Headmaster only puts ponies he trusts to guard it. So sneaking in there would be next to impossible. Not that I didn't think about it…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338848

>>338847
Look sadly at the table.
"I fear somepony else might.."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338849

>>338844
>>338845
>>338847
I give them both a surprised look, but keep eating

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338850

>>338848
"Really? What for?"
>>338849
I'll give Star an apologetic shrug.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338851

>>338850
"He's into that sort of things. And I asked him if he knew anything about the symbol."
>>338849
"Something's wrong? You are awnfully quiet."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338852

>>338851
"And I take it he knew just enough to want to run in there and likely get himself expelled."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338853

>>338851
"Just… r-reflecting on t-things while I e-eat…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338854

>>338852
"Or worse than that…"
>>338853
"Is it.. Is it still about this morning?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338855

>>338854
"… Maybe…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338856

>>338855
Nudge her side a little.
"I'm so sorry…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338857

>>338856
I shake my head
"I-it's okay… I-I'm just trying to f-figure out a solution…

Papaver Field [Mage] 338858

>>338857
"Well… What if you slapped me every time I say something bad about magic?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338859

>>338858
I'll chuckle a little bit.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338860

>>338858
I gasp
"N-no! I w-would never h-hurt you!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338861

>>338860
"Pfff I'm made of harder stuff! C'mon, hit me!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338862

"B-but why!?"

"She never said you had to hit her hard, Star."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338867

I start hyperventilating as the pressure of having to hit a friend crashes down on me

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338871

>>338870
Oh jeez.
"Star, calm down, it's alright."
Moving over to the other side of Star, I'll try and calm her down. '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

Papaver Field [Mage] 338872

>>338870
"S-star… Are you okay?"
Back down from her, leave her space.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338873

>>338871
I bury my face in my hooves and calm down slightly

>>338872
"I-I'm fine… s-sorry… I just… I-I can't…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338874

>>338873
Visibly defeated, let go of the matter.
"Okay…"
Go back to eating.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338875

>>338873
Patting her on the back, I'll reassure her.
"You'll get there eventually."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338876

>>338874
I deflate as well
"D-did… did I-I fail you a-as a f-friend again?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338877

>>338876
"I just thought that might have fixed things.. I don't want you to give up on magic, you know."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338878

>>338877
"But… w-why would hitting you… f-fix things? N-nothing n-needs to be fixed… I-I don't b-blame you for anything…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338879

>>338878
"I told you. I've been mean. Said a lot of things about magic being for cowards when I shouldn't have.
You don't blame me, but I do!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338880

>>338879
"B-but you shouldn't… We… We s-should just accept o-our differences… I c-couldn't do that and g-got u-upset… I'm r-really glad you forgave m-me t-too…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338881

>>338880
"Still, I was mean to you. And I'm sorry. I will find a way to make it up to you. Anything! Just ask."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338882

>>338881
"Vera…"
I look at her for a moment, then try to draw her in for a hug '1d10'
"It's o-okay… really…"

Roll #1 10 = 10

Papaver Field [Mage] 338883

>>338882
Oh celestia this is a day of prfect hugs.
"Thanks… You mean a lot to me."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338884

>>338883
I blush slightly
"S-so do you… I-I'm so happy w-we met…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338885

>>338884
And then we learnt that Friendship is Magic.
And finished our dinner.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338886

>>338885
Lunch. Still half the day to go.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338887

>>338886
Right. Lunch. Wanna do something else?

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338888

>>338887
Well, Jon and Papaver haven't sparred yet… Though we could do Star's Assertiveness Training guest-starring Sidus.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338889

>>338888
If Sidus wants to have Papaver around, sure.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338890

>>338889
Another thing we could do is inform Leaf Blade of Balsawood's plans. Though I would like to get Sidus in on a few things.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338891

>>338890
No DM means no Leaf.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338892

>>338891
Riiiight. So, Assertiveness Training, or Sparring?

Papaver Field [Mage] 338893

>>338892
Assertive, to play all together.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338894

>>338893
Turning to Star, I'll cough slightly.
"So, Star, since we've got a little time until the next class, let's say we start your training?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338895

>>338894
"Oh… uh… s-sure…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338896

>>338895
I'll nod.
"First lesson: building confidence. And if there's anypony here with a surplus of that, it's Sidus. So, we're gonna track him down, and see if he wants to help with this part."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338897

>>338896
Wince.
"We really have to?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338898

>>338896
"R-right… I spoke t-to him a l-little already a-about that…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338899

>>338897
I'll nod again.
"I still haven't given up on you two at least being neutral to each other. And he's probably the best-"
>>338898
"Really? That's great."
Looking around, I'll see if I can't spot Sidus. '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338900

>>338899
"Hmm… Do either of you see him?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338901

>>338899
"You wouldn't say that if you knew what he did just a few hours ago.."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338902

>>338901
I'll give Papaver a quizzical look.
"Whaddya mean?"

338903

>>338900
"Uh…"

>>338901
I cock my head questioningly

Roll #0 3 = 3

Papaver Field [Mage] 338904

"We sparred. Twice. He lost both times, then tried to hit me just after the fight was over.
And once he failed, he just stormed off."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338905

>>338904
"Hmm. Isn't that kinda similar to what you did the first time? Except you hit him?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338906

>>338905
"Yeah. And I could have forgiven him, but he just stormed off!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338907

>>338906
"… h-he was probably p-pretty upset… I c-can relate…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338910

>>338907
Roll my eyes but say nothing.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338911

>>338906
"Well, his ego's bigger than yours. It had farther to fall, especially when losing against someone he beat already."
Thinking for a minute, I'll continue.
"Still, we should probably track him down. If he was in as bad a mood as you think, he might have taken it out on miss Heart. She seems to like him, so…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338912

>>338910
I cock my head
"W-what? Ponies j-just get e-emotional s-sometimes…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338913

>>338912
"Okay, okay. I hope he's not too emotional."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338914

>>338913
"I-I already told you… I-I think he's j-just frustrated and needs s-some friends…"
Night

Papaver Field [Mage] 338915

Hey is that Nock walking in?
Wave at her.
'1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Nock [Tracker] 338916

>>338915
Yep.

"You all split pretty fast after magic theory. Was it that much of a bore for you too? Still, I'm looking forward to Spellbreaker."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338917

>>338916
"Well I kinda had something on my mind… Something about those nightmares I've been having.
We went to see the headmaster."

Nock [Tracker] 338918

>>338917
Give her a surprised look. "And he let you in, just like that? No appointment? Those marks must be something special…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338919

>>338918
Chuckle for a second.
"Yeah, the secretary didn't want to let us in.
But anyway…"
Make space for her right besides me.
"The best is yet to come."

Nock [Tracker] 338920

Papaver Field [Mage] 338921

>>338920
"So, I was seeing a symbol. Drew it for the headmaster and guess what? He knew about it.
Asked me a bunch of stuff about my family and asked if I was a seer or had ever had visions.
And then told me there was only one thing he knew with that symbol on it.
Something secret, hidden in his personal collection."

Nock [Tracker] 338929

>>338921
Give a concerned look. "Are you alright? Now I'm even more worried that the mark is serious. Still, if he's willing to tell you about it, at least he's opening up a bit about it… We've only been here a few days, after all."

Funny she didn't mention it sooner… Maybe she feels more comfortable talking about it knowing she doesn't have to keep her nightmares a secret to maintain a facade of strength.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338930

>>338929
Groan and look defeated at my plate.
"He doesn't. He told me almost nothing and sent me on my way."

Nock [Tracker] 338931

>>338930
Put a leg around her. "Vera, we've only been here a few days. We just have to prove ourselves to the Headmaster. The fact that he told you about some 'secret' collection in the first place is proof that he's willing to give us a chance. Otherwise he'd keep us out of the loop entirely."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338932

>>338931
"Yeah but… It's eating me! First he calls us up and tells about a mark, then I start seeing this out of nowhere, and now I discover that's on his 'special collection' of obscure stuff."

Nock [Tracker] 338933

>>338932
"Well, I'm sure he has a reason. I'd be surprised he told you at all if he didn't have a reason for you to know."

Give her a little squeeze. "And I'm sure we can deal with the nightmares."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338934

>>338933
Oh sure she just says these things in front of everyone.
Great.
Am I embarassed?
'1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Papaver Field [Mage] 338935

>>338934
>>338933
I'm as red as red can be. A red coat helps to hide that thou.
"…."
But yeah, give her a skittish glare.

Nock [Tracker] 338936

>>338935
A simper plays about face. My best innocent look in stately order.

"So! History after lunch. I did pretty well on the history pre-test, and with all the reading the Inquisitor classes have me doing, I'm going to be an ace. How do you expect it will go?"

This might be a good place to hold off until Groves and Fidget arrive.

Papaver Field [Mage] 338938

>>338936
Look away relieved.
"I did okay. Always loved history. The greatest heroes and mightiest warriors, all there!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338939

>>338938
Is Nock nearby? Or am I with Jon?

Papaver Field [Mage] 338940

>>338939
We should all still be at the table. Included you and Jon.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338941

>>338940
Then I'm probably keeping very quiet

Nock [Tracker] 338942

>>338938
"Yes, my father used to tell me about the great ponies in our line. I never cared to read, but he had a way with words… I hope the same is true of our teacher."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338943

>>338936
"Well, I did fairly well in the pretest, so I should be fine."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338944

>>338942
"You will have to tell me about them…"

Nock [Tracker] 338945

>>338944
"Well, the ones in recent memory are easiest to remember. Before Spell Seeker, there was Star Guided, and before him, Crescent Path. All Inquisitors, all great stallions. Then of course my ancient ancestor with whom I share a cutie mark, Waning Spark."

Pause, "I haven't given much of a thought to my own name, and that's coming up soon…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 338946

>>338945
Cock my head.
"What do you mean?"

Nock [Tracker] 338947

>>338946
"In my family we have a tradition – I'm honestly not sure where it's from, maybe unique to my dynasty. Our given name only follows us from birth until we become paladins. Then we choose a new name. My given name – Nock – is singular, but I am expected to choose a dual name, like yours or Star's."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338948

>>338947
"That… Whoa. I guess I better not get used to calling you Nock then."
Give a small giggle.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338949

>>338947
"What would happen if ponies kept calling you by your first name, instead of the one you pick?"

Nock [Tracker] 338950

>>338948
Return it. "Well, that's a whole year away. Plenty of time to call me Nock. It's the name I've heard all my life, after all."

Nock [Tracker] 338951

>>338949
Shrug. "Nothing, I guess? A name is just a name. It's not like it's a source of power. Still, tradition is tradition."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338952

>>338950
Smile at her.
"I'm sure whatever name you choose will be strong and beautiful."
>>338949
"Hey Jon, you come from a big family, right? Got any great ancestor?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338953

>>338951
I'll shrug.
"I dunno, it just seems more… intimate, I guess, to call you by a name that no one else would know."

338954

>>338953
Roll not to get any ideas.

Roll #0 9 = 9

Nock [Tracker] 338955

>>338953
"I'm sure there will be mistakes at first. I'll no doubt run into first-year lecturers here at the academy who won't even know my new name, after all."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338956

>>338952
I'll think for a minute.
"Not really. My family's been farmers for about as long as we've been in the world, and settlers besides. The only one I can think of that actually went out to make a name for himself was my great-uncle, Empire Apple."
I'll scratch my chin for a second.
"Matter of fact, the armor and weapon I brought to the Academy were his."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338957

>>338956
"Too bad they won't let us use those…"
Pout a moment.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338958

>>338957
"Well, the Battlemaster let me ask the smith to make a replica of his sword, and it seems to be holding up so far. And I'm still using his shield. The armor, well, it's just sitting up in the room."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338959

>>338958
"You know, we should totally spar one of these days. I want to test that shield of yours."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338960

>>338959
My ears perk up and I look at Jon worriedly

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338961

>>338959
"I'm pretty much self-taught, so it's likely not going to live up to your trained expectations. Still…"
I'll think about it.
"Even a loss is a learning experience. But I get the feeling we'll be squaring off against each other soon enough, if combat theory is more than just theory."

Nock [Tracker] 338962

>>338959
>>338961
I almost protest, but I remember her words before our own duel.

"You're more Equestrian every day. I'll have to observe that one, if it ever does happen. Fair warning, though, I'm told she bested your roommate quite handily this morning."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338963

>>338962
"I heard."
I'll glance at Star.
"Speaking of, we might need his help for something."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338964

>>338961
Grin at him.
"Oh don't worry, I will go easy on you!"
>>338962
Blush vividly.
"I.. I'm sure you could have done the same!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338965

>>338964
I'll wave a hoof at her.
"You go easy and I won't learn anything."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338966

>>338965
"I go hard on you and Star will never forgive me!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338969

>>338966
I'll chuckle a little at that.
"Maybe."

Nock [Tracker] 338971

>>338966
"Speaking of Star–" Turn to her.

"It's good to see you came with us to class. I'm sorry what we said bothered you, but I'm glad to see you made the right choice."

Turn back to Papaver, "Didn't he say somepony used a whole castle to cast a spell? That's amazing."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 338975

>>338971
I nod weakly at her, not daring to speak up

Papaver Field [Mage] 338976

>>338971
"Oh… That… Yeah, the mad High King of the north…"
Look away.

Nock [Tracker] 338979

>>338976
In between bites I remark, "Y'know, even if half of these folk turn out going mad from their experiments, it's a pretty interesting subject. I can see why Star likes it."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338980

>>338979
"I still want to learn how to throw those magic swords Leaf showed me. It's a matter of honor now."

Nock [Tracker] 338982

>>338980
"Well, I doubt you'll have a breakthrough before history. Maybe you'll have more time on the weekend. The week is packed… Though I am looking forward to Spellbreaker tomorrow, with Star."

Give her a smile.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 338983

>>338979
"I think half's a bit of an exaggeration, don't you? Plenty of ponies don't end up in the history books, after all."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338985

>>338982
"I hoped to keep the weekend for… Well…"
Trail off and roll me eyes.
"Some more personal training."

Nock [Tracker] 338986

>>338985
Give her a grin. "Well, if you want some one on one practice, I'm certain there will be time for that, too."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338987

>>338986
Nod vigorously.
"I want to train against that bow of yours! It's amazing!"

Nock [Tracker] 338990

>>338987
"It takes a lot of strength to draw back. That strength is transferred to the arrow. I was impressed with the Smith's work: this one holds a lot of tension."

Papaver Field [Mage] 338993

>>338990
Smile at her.
"Yes, a lot of strength…"

>>339026
Shrug. "It's your choice."

Sidus [Rogue] 339030

Uh

Papaver Field [Mage] 339033

>>339028
Arc a brow to her.
"I thought these things mattered a lot more.."
Turn to Star and Jon.
"I challanged Nock to a duel. And she accepted."
Use a solemn tone. It's a big deal after all!

You can go check your room, magically happen to find the others, or wander around to bump into a certain someone.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339036

I blink, but keep quiet

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339037

"You challenged me just a minute ago. How's this different?"

Nock [Tracker] 339039

>>339033
I remark confidently to her, "They do, but… I came to a decision, and I am prepared to stand by it. It's not as though it would be a secret forever."

Sidus [Rogue] 339040

>>339035
Check my room?

Papaver Field [Mage] 339041

>>339037
"No that's a spar. I sparred with Sidus, for istance. With Nock, I dueled… argh. Nock, gimme a hoof to explain this!"

DM 339042

>>339040
Looks like someone left a little note on your bed

Sidus [Rogue] 339043

>>339042
Huh.
Read it.

Nock [Tracker] 339045

>>339041
"As I understand it, in Eaglecrest's culture, asking for a duel is not unlike what you asked of Star in the middle of our pain exercise."

"We should look for Star.."
>>339077
Shrug. "Wanna look for her? We got some time before cless.."

Nock [Tracker] 339082

>>339077
"Maybe she went back to our room? Though Jon couldn't come with us unless he feels like pressing his luck twice in one day…"

DM 339083

>>339076
You do find a small lockbox, placed above the stage on the east side.
…you'll need to climb, if you can't levitate it down.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339084

>>339080
I'll nod.
"We can look for Sidus as well. We should also likely split up, so that we can cover more ground. If none of us can find her, we'll meet back up at the History classroom."
And with that, I'll head to the library.

DM 339086

>>339075
The writing is quite inspiring.
Roll to not get too excited.

Papaver Field [Mage] 339088

You can contain it.
Leave it for the night at least.

You climb up, but slip and fall.

So how do you plan to get to the roof of the mare's dorm?

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339119

While the girls are out looking, and I'm in the library, I'll ask the librarian if she's seen Star.

DM 339123

>>339119
"Hm? Yes, I saw her. Checked out one book and left."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339128

The latter.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339144

I'll call out to him, then.
"Sidus! I was looking for you."

Sidus [Rogue] 339191

I stop and sigh.
"What is it?"

Nock [Tracker] 339192

>>339183

"I was hoping I could get your help with something, but if you're busy, I suppose it can wait."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339195

Sidus [Rogue] 339197

>>339193
"I guess I can always help. What do you need?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339203

>>339192
"Y-you…"
I pause for a moment, eyes widening as I look at the both of them
"… o-oh… uh…"
I flash an awkward smile
"T-that's… great to h-hear!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339209

>>339197
"Well, I had the thought of, in between classes, helping Star keep pace with everyone else. I noticed there's one thing that really holds her back, though, and decided to make that the first thing we work on. The thing is, she lacks confidence in herself, and I was hoping you, perhaps the most confident pony I've met, would be able to help me help her take some pride in herself."
I'll rub the back of my neck.
"I wouldn't ask you this for no cost, however. If you ever need a favor from me, I'd do my best to fulfill it."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339214

>>339203
My eyes fill with light and I jump to hug Star with a big smile on my face.
'1d10'
"Thankyou! It's so nice to see you understand!"

Roll #1 4 = 4

Sidus [Rogue] 339217

>>339209
"You insult me, Jon. You are a friend, and so is she. If she wants to get more confident, I can help her… though…"
Glance around.
"How good are you with riddles?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339226

>>339217
I'll shrug.
"I can't claim mastery of them, but two heads are usually better than one."

Nock [Tracker] 339229

>>339203
Nod approvingly.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339231

>>339214
I cock my head
"U-understand?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339234

>>339226
"But not a word about this, okay? She can't know I asked for your help."
Show him the note.
"I don't know where to find the key for this box."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339238

>>339231
"Well it looks like a silly thing to do, take time away from training and study to be with somepony else, and you are mya best friend so I wanted to be sure you were okay with it!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339247

>>339234
"Hmmmm…"
I'll look over the riddle for a short while.
"I left a key that opens my heart
In a place I'd never depart… Well, Sidus, I know miss Heart fancies you a bit, so do you think she might have meant that romantically? I mean, where would she never want to leave?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339249

>>339247
"…this academy?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339250

>>339238
I shrug
"A-as long as y-you're happy…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339251

>>339249
I'll roll my eyes.
"We're all gonna leave the academy eventually. I meant, where does she want to stay, or with who? Where did you find the note, anyway?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339254

>>339251
"It was on my bed in the room."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339258

>>339254
I'll raise an eyebrow.
"How did she…"
I'll just shake my head. She probably got there the same way Sidus got out of the Hammer dorm.
"Well, did you check your uniform pockets, your weapon rack, your travel bags? She might have tucked it in something that rests against your sides."

Sidus [Rogue] 339264

>>339258
"Hmm, that's a good idea!"
Go back to my room and search those places

Papaver Field [Mage] 339266

>>339250
Let go of her and step back besides Nock.
"We should go find Jon. Not much time left."

Nock [Tracker] 339270

>>339266
Nod and beckon Star along.

DM 339273

There it is. In your travel bag, tucked against the side.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339274

>>339266
>>339270
"O-oh… r-right…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339275

Derp.
Shouldn't overthink things too much next time.
Back to Jona.
"Thanks for your help! Now remember, not a word! And I'll have to finish something now, but about me and Star have a little confidence lesson later?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339276

>>339275
Hey look we are back to Jon too!

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339279

>>339275
I'll nod, and wave him farewell.
Well, maybe some mares are less complicated than others…
>>339276
And wave them hello.

Nock [Tracker] 339280

>>339279
Give him a smile as we approach. "We found her."

Sidus [Rogue] 339282

>>339276
I'll leave right away then.
Open the box somewhere else.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339285

>>339280
"So I see. I found Sidus, and he's agreed to help Star with confidence lessons. He says it's the least he can do for a friend."

DM 339286

>>339282
It contains a very fancy, intricate badge in the shape of a shield or coat of arms. From the looks of it, it is made of silver with gold details and a few small gems. Seems valuable, and incredibly well made.
There is also a note.

Sidus [Rogue] 339287

>>339286
Huh…interesting…
Read the note.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339290

>>339285
"Oh…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339292

>>339290
I'll walk up next to Star.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure he doesn't go overboard. Little steps, until you're ready to go further than that."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339294

>>339292
I nod
"O-okay… thanks for d-doing this f-for me…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339295

"If he doesn't storm off after losing a battle.."

DM 339296

Come up above, so the sky you can see
And I hope with all my self, you can forgive me

Sidus [Rogue] 339297

>>339296
Well, why the hell not…
Place the badge on my chest, then back to the roof!

DM 339299

Seems the coast is clear.
She is waiting.

Sidus [Rogue] 339301

>>339299
Walk up to her.
"Hey."

Nock [Tracker] 339302

>>339292
Whisper to him, "Don't you think she'd prefer to practice with you?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339305

>>339294
I'll give her a playful little nudge.
"Don't thank me too much yet, this was the easy part."
>>339295
I'll roll my eyes at Vera.
"He'll be fine. As long as it's for a friend, I'm pretty sure he'd walk to the gates of Tartarus and back."

DM 339306

>>339301
She keeps looking at the sky
"…do you like it?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339310

>>339302
"She is going to be practicing with me. First step is building up confidence so she doesn't freak out. Like I said, little steps."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339311

>>339305
"Yeah okay. I just don't like him very much."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339315

I eye them carefully as they whisper to each other

DM 339325

>>339317
"It was made by my great-grandmother, for her husband… And since, it has been upgraded with every passing generation, with new pieces added as new bloodlines joined ours…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339328

Walk right up next to her.
"I'm honored that you gave it to me in that case."

DM 339331

Her eyes are all red…
"It's yours now.

Sidus [Rogue] 339334

>>339331
"Hey!"
Take her chin in a hoof and make her look in my eyes.

>>339335
I'll blush a little at that.
"T-that's different."

Sidus [Rogue] 339346

>>339342
Oh for…
Hug her and pet her mane.
"Calm down, it was just a small mistake on your part and I was upset… I won't let something so small stand between us."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339347

>>339344
Giggle from behind as I see him blush.
"What are you telling him, Nock?"

DM 339349

"P-promise?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339350

I need to stow that in my room real quick.

But she does not. Indeed she just softly breathes as you lock lips. Her heart swelling.
It is incredible. So much more than just lips touching.
You cannot contain yourself. You want more.
Embracing her, you deepen the kiss. You don't care about her surprised reaction. She said you are the one who sets the pace.
The world becomes a blur. There is only you, and her, and your feelings for her.
When you regain a moment of clarity she is panting on her back before you
"W-well? A-are you g-going to do more~?"
>>339423
nobody here.
But Sidus left his bag out in the open.
Guess you were right about the key.
…his weapon stand looks a little wonky. One of the legs is crooked and kinds short. It looks like it might fall over if bumped, and he keeps it right by his bed…

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339439

>>339432
I'll sigh.
"That idiot's gonna get himself killed."
Stashing the book under my pillow for the moment, I'll see if I can't fix that thing. After I take the weapons off of it, of course. '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Papaver Field [Mage] 339441

>>339415
"You… Want to go someplace? Maybe train a bit, I don't know…"
Trail off my voice as I look at the ground while drawing circles in the air with one hoof.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339444

>>339439
…That doesn't look right. Fiddle with it a bit again. '1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

Nock [Tracker] 339445

>>339441
Give her a lazy smile. "Sure, but I'm a little tired after that lecture. It was interesting, but it was book work… We have combat training this evening, might want to relax until then."

DM 339446

>>339439
You turn the rack around. If it falls over now, it will fall against the wall and not on Sidus.
>>339444
Then you realize that was dumb, turn it back, pop the leg off, straighten it out and slam it back in properly with some good old EARTH PONY STRONKNESS.
All better. Looks cooler too, now that it's not leaning.
You give the weapons a quick shine and put them back, then admire your work with a nod.
A good deed indeed.

Sidus [Rogue] 339447

>>339432
Stand back and help her up.
"UH… no…"
Okay, get a hold of myself and take a deep breath.
'1d10'

"I just got a bit carried away. Happens to the best of us."

Roll #1 3 = 3

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339448

>>339446
And he's never gonna notice.
Anyway, now that things are safely away, I'll head back down to the group. We've got a bit of time before the next class, right?

Papaver Field [Mage] 339449

>>339445
"Uh… Sure! But.."
Rub the back of my head sheepishly.
"I'm not sure where ponies go in these occasions…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339450

>>339445
>>339449
I just stare at them awkwardly

DM 339451

>>339448
You have some time until Combat Theory, then it's dinnertime.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339452

>>339451
Well, assuming that Star and the rest haven't left, I'll rejoin them there.

DM 339454

>>339447
You aren't even fooling yourself with that
"I… I know… um…
…I liked it… at least…"

Nock [Tracker] 339458

>>339449
"Well, I'm headed back to our room. You're welcome to join me, Vera. I think Star planned on visiting the library, right?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339465

>>339458
Nod and skittishly walk besides her, saying nothing.

Sidus [Rogue] 339470

>>339454
Breath in, breath out…
"I liked it too… but I don't think this is the time or place…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339472

>>339458
"Oh… I-I was?"

>>339452
I brighten up
"Y-you're back!"

DM 339473

>>339470
"…Just one more?
…please?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339476

>>339473
That 3 said one more is A-OK.
So just one more.

"I said I would be."
Glancing at Vera and Nock, I'll continue.
"I guess I'm just in time to keep you from being lonely, then."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339480

>>339478
I nod happily
"Y-you are… what w-will we do?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339485

>>339480
"Well, we've got some time until the next class starts, so… we could maybe go to the library, or hunt down Sidus, or…" I'll blush a bit. "We could find somewhere nice to sit and just relax for a little while together."

339488

>>339485
Well now does that sound like a nice idea?

Roll #0 4 = 4

Papaver Field [Mage] 339489

>>339488
No. Of course no. That's silly.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339492

>>339485
I blush as well
"T-that sounds n-nice…"

DM 339493

>>339476
Cute~
After that, she just contently brushes up against you
"I'm so glad, my dear Sidus~"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339500

>>339492
I'll nod quietly.
"So… where would you like to go? Outside, or…?"

Nock [Tracker] 339507

>>339489
Head back to the room, and flop on my bed.

"I have to admit, I was honest back there. That was an exhausting lecture."

Sidus [Rogue] 339512

>>339493
Why fight it

Hug her and stay close for a bit.
"I just don't know what happened… I guess your name rings true, because you sure can make a heart burn."

339516

>>339507
"That was less fun than I thought it would…"
Well I guess I'll lay on mine, then.
"S-so, what do you do to relax?"
Oh boy. How tense am I?

Roll #0 7 = 7

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339518

>>339500
"… A-all the same to me…"

Nock [Tracker] 339525

>>339516
I bemusedly reply, "I am told that regular young mares like to braid manes. I've never been very into that, though."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339533

>>339518
I'll give it a little thought.
There are probably a bunch of instructors out on the field, so we can't linger there… and I don't know the rest of the outside of the academy too well, so I wouldn't know where to go, since loitering outside of the Sword or Hammer dorms would get us in trouble, or we'd get catcalls… Library it is, then.
"Let's go to the library. They've got some nice chairs there, and I think they're big enough for two ponies…"

DM 339534

>>339512
"Does it matter what happened?
…would you prefer I don't act like this towards you around others?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339535

>>339533
I blush even redder
"Ah… r-right… good…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339537

>>339534
I chuckle.
"Why would I be ashamed of you?…"
Oh crap, the time!

"Oh… Though I did promise a friend that I will help him, I just got a bit too immersed here."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339538

>>339525
Give a neigh and roll my eyes, blowing a few airs of my mane out of my face.
"Yeah, me neither. They don't hold well while training anyway."
Look away for a second.
"B-but we could try!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339540

>>339535
That blush is infectious, I swear.
"A-alright then."
And we'll hit the library. Do they have any good-sized chairs? '1d10'

Run along now, if you have things to do.
I can help you down with magic if you'd like…"
>>339540
>>339544
You find some in the back, in a space meant for quiet reading.

Sidus [Rogue] 339553

>>339552
"I'll just sneak back down like I came here."
Give her a quick kiss on her temple.
"See you later."

Sneak out and find Jona.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339555

Well, there they are…
I guess I'll take a seat on the left side of the loveseat, and Star can have the right.

Sidus [Rogue] 339556

>>339554
Good I'm good at sneaking.

Approach him.
"Hey there."

Nock [Tracker] 339557

>>339538
Give her a smile. "Well, if you want."

Climb up on her bed next to her. Try braid, but don't put much effort into it. Just lay next to her, in contact. '1d10'

Shake my head.
"It's nice~"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339582

>>339565
"That's good…"
I'll shuffle a bit as now I need to shift gears away from anticipated cuddling.
"So, where to start?"
I'll throw a slightly apologetic look to Star.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339584

>>339565
"Oh… r-right…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339590

>>339582

Jump next to her.

339592

>>339590
Does that startle me?

Roll #0 9 = 9

It does not.
I cock my head confusedly
"Uh… I-I don't k-know? H-how do you m-measure t-that?"

Okay, take a step back.
"With questions… Let's see… You said you like magic, right?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339603

>>339597
"Ouch.
This is…"
Get out of bed.
"This is strange. I feel like there's something wrong."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339604

>>339601
I nod
"Y-yes."

Sidus [Rogue] 339608

>>339604
"And are you good at it?"

Nock [Tracker] 339611

>>339603
Give her a weak smile. "I'm sorry. You know, for all my confidence, and supposedly knowing about relationships… this is the furthest I've been in one."

Pause.

"I've just been playing cool." My ears drop sadly.

Papaver Field [Mage] 339625

>>339611
"You too…"
Giggle a bit. Well maybe do a little more, actually laugh.
Look at her with loving eyes.
Then, go by the balcony and lie down, tapping my hoof right besides me.
Give her a soft smile.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339627

>>339608
I nod again
"I t-think so…"

Nock [Tracker] 339629

>>339625
Slowly approach and take a seat next to her.

Sidus [Rogue] 339632

>>339627
"That's not an answer. I asked you something. Are. You. Good. At. Magic?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339645

>>339629
Shake my head.
"Not over there. Here."
Invite her to lie down just a few inches from me.
"It was so nice earlier. I want to see… Feel it again."

>>339645
Scoot over to her, gently making contact. '1d10'

I hum, then pace around.
"Mhmm… I don't think you are. I might even say you are bad at it."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339654

>>339652
I frown
"But… y-you haven't even s-seen it…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339656

>>339652
I'll raise an eyebrow, but let Sidus talk for a moment.
You did say you wanted Star to get more open about being angry at ponies…

Sidus [Rogue] 339659

>>339654
"Yup. But I just need to look at you to know it. So, do you still think you are good at it?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339665

>>339659
Keep frowning, breathing slightly quicker
"But… m-my special t-talent is healing m-magic!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339666

>>339650
>>339649
"Okay… It's nice this way…"
I will just take that 11 too, thanks.
Lazily hold her, using a hoof to brush her mane.
"This morning… When I talked with you about the nightmares… There was something else I wanted to tell you.
Somepony I've talked with about the symbol."

Nock [Tracker] 339670

>>339666
"Mhmmmm?"

I just relax, enjoying the mane brush.

Sidus [Rogue] 339672

>>339665
"Is it now? Maybe it does make your magic 'meh' then. That's the most I can give."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339673

>>339670
"He told me about a way to find out what it is…"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339674

Stop brushing for a second and rest my head across her neck.
"He said… He wanted to sneak into the headmaster's collection."

Sidus [Rogue] 339684

>>339674
I smile.
"Clever girl."
Stop pacing around and face her.
"You are better than I thought you are, but still, keep this in mind. Don't let what others say influence about how you think of yourself. If they say you fail, and you believe it, then you will. Only one thing…"
Walk closer.
"You said you are good at your magic, but are you proud of it?"

Nock [Tracker] 339690

>>339683
Let my lungs deflate slowly, blowing my breath over a few seconds.

"He wouldn't. It's too dangerous, and not to mention dishonorable."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339692

>>339684
"I…"
I take a step back as he comes closer
"… Y-yes… m-most of the t-times… I-I mean… I-it gives m-me purpose…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339694

>>339692
"Then don't just do it 'most of the time', don't be afraid to do it! It's who you are, after all!"
Stop and keep grinning.
"Stand tall, hold your head high, look me in the eyes, then say it loud and clear, that Yes, you are good at magic, and Yes, you are proud that you are!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339695

>>339690
"He shouldn't. But he said he will. And I'm starting to worry for him.
And I feel responsible for making him do it…"
Nervously tap my hooves together in front of her chest as I keep embracing her.

Nock [Tracker] 339697

>>339695
"We could still stop him, couldn't we?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339699

Run a hoof down her back.

"I'm sure you'll sway him. You can be very convincing when it comes to changing a pony's mind."

Sidus [Rogue] 339705

Sigh. "I like you, Vera. I'm just worried that if I go through with this and we're not right for each other…"

"It's not taboo for mares to get together, but my father wants me to carry on the line. Choosing a mare mate could potentially devastate him. I agreed to the duel, though, because I thought you were more important than that. I just hope… this is the right thing to do."

"If you think this is hard, just wait until we get to the exercise step."
Patting her gently on the back, I'll sit down next to her for a second.
"So, what say we three head to combat theory class and get some good seats?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339797

>>339792
I'm ready for the pain

Sidus [Rogue] 339800

Papaver Field [Mage] 339803

>>339789
Nod to her.

"I want to be sure, too. And maybe I don't even realize how mig this whole thing is.
But I know I want to try to do it, with you.
And you should be just as happy as a mare can be. This much my parents told me.
So I'm okay with thinking this over."
Then, get up. I guess classes are about to start.
"Can we… Can we hold tails, at least? Just until we make it to class."
>>339792
Ready. Almost.

Nock [Tracker] 339809

>>339803
Smile softly. "Okay."

'1d10+2'

Roll #1 10 + 2 = 12

Papaver Field [Mage] 339810

>>339809
Nghh.
My heart.
That's a perfect tail knot.
Not even joking.

Smile happy and trot alongside her.

DM 339811

>>339797
>>339800
>>339803
The students are gathering for combat theory. The Battlemaster himself seems to be teaching this class.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339813

>>339811
Oh boy. I really hope he doesn't ask us to have our gear, because that's all up in the dorm…

Papaver Field [Mage] 339816

>>339811
Time to let go of her tail, take my weapon and act serious. This is combat we are talking about.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339817

>>339796
"O-okay…"

>>339811
Just make sure I'm not standing anywhere near him…

Nock [Tracker] 339818

>>339811
Nod and take my place next to Papaver.

Sidus [Rogue] 339820

>>339811
Finally.
This might be good at least.

DM 339831

"Good to see you all made it even after the starting exams.
Now this is Combat Theory. That means this course is equal parts combat and theory. You will learn how to strike. How to deflect a blow. How to take a hit. How to hold a weapon. Where to aim that weapon.
And then you will do all that in person.
Any questions?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339833

>>339831
I just smirk.
I know weapons pretty good already.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339834

>>339831
I'll raise a hoof.
"Should I have brought my equipment today, or am I fighting with just my hooves?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339837

>>339831
Oh gods
I shrink slightly

Papaver Field [Mage] 339838

>>339831
Question? No, not really. I want to see what he has for us.

DM 339839

>>339834
"Today is theory.
Tomorrow's homework is remembering that theory and putting it to practice on your partner. So bring them then."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339840

>>339839
I'll nod, and get ready to pay attention.

Nock [Tracker] 339841

>>339839
Nod confidently and pull out some paper.

DM 339843

>>339840
>>339838
>>339837
>>339833
"So, I've seen all your test scores. And while I it is clear I don't need to teach any of you how to hold a sword, it seems not all of you are entirely in the clear about what it means to fight as a Paladin.
We do not fight from the shadows.
We do not fight for glory
We do not fight to defeat our foes
We fight face to face
We fight with hearts of iron and arms of steel
We fight to defend that which we hold dear
We fight for Equestria!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339845

>>339843
Mumble to myself.
"…do not fight for glo…"
Well glory comes natural if you fight like a paladin. What a stupid question!

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339846

>>339843
Well, I've got no problems with that so far.

Sidus [Rogue] 339847

>>339843
I snort just a bit at that.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339848

>>339843
Okay…

DM 339849

>>339845
>>339846
>>339847
>>339848
"I CAN HEAR YOU BACK THERE YOU KNOW. I may be getting old, but I've trained more damn paladins than anyone else here. I've seen the scoffing glory hogs, the reckless blood knights, the cowards, the weaklings, the deserters and traitors and the childish know-it-alls who cannot take orders.
I've seen every bad example of vice a paladin needs to NOT be. And I have seen them removed from this academy. Some, from this world.
So make no mistake. This is not some sun themed kindergarten. This is where you will be prepared to be the best and face the worst.
In the coming year, I will see you trained in one on one combat. Squad combat. Ranked battles. Combat against stronger foes. Against faster foes. Flying foes. Magical foes. Wild animals. Elementals. Demons. By the time I'm done I can throw you out of bed at three in the morning and tell you that Tirek himself is rampaging though Canterlot and YOU WILL ANSWER 'YES SIR I WILL BE RIGHT ON IT SIR' AND KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339850

>>339849
I LIKE THIS GUY!
Keep listening!

339851

>>339849
Rolling to not shake in fear

Roll #0 6 = 6

Sidus [Rogue] 339852

>>339849
Pff, Tirek would be a cakewalk.
I could take him down here and now.
Keep smiling like an idiot and lean back in the chair

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339853

>>339849
I'll sit up a bit straighter.

DM 339854

>>339852
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

DM 339855

>>339852
>>339854
"SIT UP STRAIGHT YOU SLACKER. IF YOU CAN'T EVEN SIT RIGHT, HOW DO YOU THINK YOU CAN WIELD A WEAPON, LET ALONE BE WORTHY OF THE TITLE OF PALADIN!?"
>>339853
>>339851
>>339850
"The first step to learning the theory of combat, is to learn single combat. For even if you fight as a unit, you will still, in the end, battle one on one, even if you have others to rely on.
In that, two keys lie to attain victory. To know the weaknesses of your enemy - and to know your own shortcomings.
And do not scoff and say you have none. All who have done so, have been proven wrong. If not by me, then by the foe who first exploited it, ending their prospective lives all too early. Overestimating yourself is inviting death. Underestimating your foe is to greet it with open hooves.
But if you know your limits, your weapons, and your enemies, you will know how to face your foe, and how to overcome them.
And this is where I come in. For it is my duty to teach you these things."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339856

>>339855
I just had no idea where to stop.
Damnit.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339857

>>339855
Okay… try to write this stuff down…

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339858

>>339855
Keep paying attention. This is what I came here to learn, after all.

Sidus [Rogue] 339859

>>339855
Mutter, but keep smiling.
"I didn't know getting comfortable was against the paladin code."
Sit normally.

DM 339860

>>339856
>>339857
>>339858
>>339859
"Now here we have a standard issue Equestrian heavy armour. Looks solid, sturdy, good for protection. Put this on and you will be invincible."
The battlemaster grabs a dagger off a nearby table and jams it between a joint in the armour, making the dummy inside leak some red juice
"Surely you will not need to care for blocking in such a suit."
He leaves the dagger in and picks up an axe, embedding it in the back of the dummy, cracking the armour
"When armoured, you can clearly just walk into battle without a care in the world."
He takes a sword, and with a swift turning motion, rams it through the eye slit of the helmet.
Much of the dummy is now drenched in simulated blood
"You have no weak points. You are clearly perfect."
He takes a mace and smashes the helmet, sending a splash of gore out of the bottom.
"As you can see, all you need is some armour."
he kicks the dummy over and jams a second sword through its belly, leaving it pinned to the floor
"Do you feel ready for battle yet?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339861

>>339860
I just whimper softly

Papaver Field [Mage] 339862

>>339860
But I know all this! I'm never invulnerable! There would be no honor in fighting a battle you can't lose!

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339863

>>339860
My eyes will be on the perforated mannequin.
That's me if I don't figure this fighting thing out.

Sidus [Rogue] 339864

>>339860
Pff, yeah, as if I need armor if I can just dodge.

DM 339865

>>339861
>>339862
>>339863
>>339864
"Now, who wants to explain the differences between all the weapons I just demonstrated?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339866

>>339865
I know about weapons! Raise my hoof!

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339867

>>339865
I'll shakily raise a hoof.

DM 339868

>>339866
"Go ahead."

Sidus [Rogue] 339869

>>339865
"Hah, that's easy!"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339870

>>339868
Open my mouth to speak but stop myself as Sidus interrupts me, shooting him a glare.

Sidus [Rogue] 339871

>>339870
Smirk back at her.

DM 339872

>>339870
"Well?"
>>339867
>>339869
"Fine. All three of you. Start talking."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339873

>>339872
Just stay quiet and listen

Papaver Field [Mage] 339874

>>339872
"Sir, Great Weapons such as the axe you used are the least manageable of the bunch, sir.
They require more strength than most weapons but hit harder. Also, a wide swing can flatten more than one foe at once, while increasing the risks for the user."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339875

>>339872
Looking at the other two, I'll start with something small.
"Well, the weight of all the weapons is different. Some needed to be swung harder, and some just needed to find the right opening to do the work.'

Sidus [Rogue] 339876

>>339872
"The dagger was fast and precise to find a weak point. The axe was heavy weapony to shatter armor and the pony inside, though blunt weapons are even better for dispatching armored foes. The sword was just a regular sword, but with some cleverness can still be expoilted to find openings. The mace, as I said, is perfect against armor, but needs heavy and big swings for effectiveness, and are generally slower than sharp edged weapons."

DM 339877

>>339874
>>339875
>>339876
"Good! Looks like I won't need to even talk about basics to this group!
Ha! That concludes the lesson then for all who feel they know enough.
Feel free to stay behind and ask questions if you have any though.
Dismissed!"

Sidus [Rogue] 339878

>>339877
"That's it? That was the whole class?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339879

>>339877
I let out a small sigh and pack up my stuff

DM 339880

>>339878
No, that's a two hour timeskip because fuck you I'm a DM not a teacher and I'm not writing you a full lecture on combat theory at 3am

NEXT TIME ON CARTOON ANIMAL SCHOOL DRAMA
BALSAWOOD
LEAF BLADE
AND <3

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339881

>>339877
I'm vaguely curious about a few things, but I'll wait until after the first combat lesson to really ask them. So I know where I stand.

Sidus [Rogue] 339882

>>339879
"Hey. Ready for some more confidence building?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339883

>>339881
Wait for him

>>339882
"O-oh… uh… s-sure…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339884

>>339883
"If you are not comfortable with it, I won't push for it."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339885

>>339883
>>339882
"Oh, how is that going?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339887

>>339885
"She learnt how to stand already."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339889

>>339884
I look at Jon to see what he thinks

>>339885
"Uh…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339890

>>339887
"You must be a better teacher than I thought…"
>>339889
Cock my head and wait for her to speak.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339891

>>339890
"… f-fine…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339892

>>339889
"If you think you're ready for more, Star, then by all means. You don't have to wait for my approval. Part of your assertiveness training is making decisions on your own, after all."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339894

>>339891
"Can I watch?" Give her a smile.

Sidus [Rogue] 339895

>>339890
"It all depends on Star's willingness to learn."

>>339891
"Speak up. And don't shy away from ponies, especially your friends. This is not an interrogation."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339896

>>339892
"B-but… if y-you wanted to d-do something else instead t-that's fine too…"

>>339894
I gulp
"Y-yes… okay…"

>>339895
"I-I know… sorry…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339897

>>339896
"And don't apologize when you are not at fault."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339898

>>339896
I'll smile.
"Star, if I end up taking all of your time, you won't be able to spend any with your friends. As much as I'd like to, I can't keep you all to myself."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339899

>>339897
"Right!? I've been telling her all week!"

Sidus [Rogue] 339900

>>339899
"You haven't telling her enough then it seems."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339901

>>339897
>>339898
>>339899
I paw my hooves at the ground uncomfortably, not entirely sure how to respond here

Papaver Field [Mage] 339902

>>339900
Roll my eyes.
"That would be pressuring her."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339903

>>339901
Moving in a little closer to Star, I'll whisper to her.
"Remember the courage you plucked up when we hugged on the roof? Use that courage, and make your own choices."

Sidus [Rogue] 339904

>>339902
"Maybe that is just what she needs!"

>>339901
"Let's not just stand around. Let's get to the training grounds."

Head off there.

Papaver Field [Mage] 339905

>>339904
I guess I follow them to see this.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339906

>>339903
I nod weakly
"O-okay…"

>>339904
Scurry after him

Sidus [Rogue] 339907

>>339906
"Stop walking like that."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339908

>>339906
I'll follow along for emotional support.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339909

>>339907
I stop
"W-what?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339910

>>339909
"Remember how you were standing? Use that stance. Stride with pride! Show the ponies who glance at you from your very walk that you are somepony!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339912

>>339910
"O-okay… I'll t-try…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339913

>>339912
"That's a thing too. Don't try. Do. 'Try' carries the possibility of failure."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339916

>>339913
"B-but… everypony f-fails sometimes…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339919

>>339916
"They do. But less if you believe you can do it and not just 'try to do it and see what happens'."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339920

>>339919
I think for a moment, then nod
"O-okay…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339921

>>339920
I think this was enough time to get there.

"Now we have some more open space, good."
Point at somewhere near.
"Go there and I'll tell you what to do."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339922

>>339921
Do as told

Sidus [Rogue] 339923

>>339922
"Good. Now, we had problems with your volume, right?"
Smirk.
"Yell at me."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339924

>>339923
I look a little unsure
"Uh… w-what so I-I need to yell for?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339926

>>339924
"I want to make sure you actually have a voice behind all that stuttering and murmuring."

339927

>>339926
I gulp
"O-okay…"
Take a deep breath and try to shout my own name

Roll #0 8 = 8

Papaver Field [Mage] 339928

>>339927
Clop my hooves at the impressive gesture.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339930

>>339927
I'll give a little nod.
"A good shout."

Sidus [Rogue] 339931

>>339927
I nod with a smile.
"Very good, very good!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339932

>>339928
>>339930
>>339931
I blush but keep quiet

Sidus [Rogue] 339933

>>339932
"Now let's try it again, but with a bit more passion, shall we?"

339934

>>339933
"Oh… o-okay…"
Once again, take a deep breath, then shout out Jon's name

Roll #0 6 = 6

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339935

>>339934
I'll blush a little, but smile encouragingly.

Sidus [Rogue] 339936

>>339934
I chuckle.
"Good, but not the passion I was thinking about. Don't you ever get mad at ponies?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339938

>>339936
I gulp
"A-almost never, no…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339939

>>339938
"Not even a bit? Not even when they call you a chub?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339940

>>339939
I'll open my mouth a bit angrily for a second, but then shut it, since I see what he's trying to do.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339941

>>339939
I uncomfortably rub one hoof on the other, looking away
"Th-that just makes m-me sad…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339943

>>339941
"What about this morning, when you got angry at us? Try that."

Sidus [Rogue] 339944

>>339941
"Sadness is useless. Moping around is useless. Ang-"

>>339943
I stop as she interrupts.
"You were mad at them? Perfect! Recall that!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339945

>>339943
I shake my head
"I-I don't want to g-get angry at a-anypony…"
Close my eyes
"I feel… b-bad about i-it…"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339946

>>339945
"Why do you feel bad about it? It's completely normal to get angry at folk if they do something you really don't like."

Sidus [Rogue] 339947

>>339945
"Whatever floats your boat then. You'll never learn how to be assertive this way though."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339948

>>339947
Nod approvingly as he says that.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339949

>>339946
"But… w-who says t-they aren't r-right?"

>>339947
>>339948
"Oh…"
I slump back on my haunches
"I s-should have known…"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339950

>>339949
Facehoof.

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339951

>>339949
"Well, think about it like this. Were Vera and Nock right when they talked badly about magic? Wouldn't you want to correct somepony when they've made a mistake?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339952

>>339949
"Hey! No! This is the most important rule, ever! Never, Never give up!"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339955

>>339951
"W-well yes…"

>>339952
"Oh…"
I get back up
"O-okay… I'll tr-"
I interrupt myself and simply nod instead

Sidus [Rogue] 339957

>>339955
"Good. At least you can learn. You are not hopeless after all."

Papaver Field [Mage] 339958

>>339955
Grin and look towards Sidus.
"She's learning!"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339960

>>339955
"Well, there you go."
I'll let Sidus get back to teaching.

Sidus [Rogue] 339961

>>339958
"We'll need to get her to shout and mean it soon though."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339962

>>339957
>>339958
>>339960
I just let out a sigh and keep standing there

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339963

>>339962
"You're doing fine, Star, really. Though, if we're going a bit far with this, you've got to say so, alright?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339964

>>339962
"So… there's nothing that makes you mad? Annoys you?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339965

>>339964
Move up to him.
"You could say magic is stupid. But that could make her cry just as well."

Sidus [Rogue] 339966

>>339965
"You could try spitting on her, I know you can do that."
Grin at her slyly.
"That's really unfortunate! How can you even say that about her?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339967

>>339966
"Or you could try storming off like a baby after losing to a superior fighter~"
Grin and back down.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339968

>>339964
"I-I guess it d-depends…"

>>339966
>>339965
I cock my head
"H-huh?"

Sidus [Rogue] 339969

>>339967
"Superior my ass, you just had luck, but I admit, I overreacted."

>>339968
"I would… I mean."
Go to Jon.
"I have no idea where I'm going with this but maybe this will get her mad so play along."

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339970

>>339969
I'll look at him quizzically.

Sidus [Rogue] 339971

>>339970
"I mean I know I want to get her mad to shout and let out some steam and assert herself, I just don't know how to get on her nerve, get it?"

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339972

>>339969
"W-what's wrong?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339974

>>339971
"You expect me to know? I've been on eggshells trying not to get her mad at me… Though I'll admit, getting her mad at something was eventually the plan.
I might have an idea, but it would probably involve personal matters…

I'll think for a second.
"She might get defensive if you insult her friends, or me. Or her family, even, though that's touchy ground at best."

Sidus [Rogue] 339977

>>339974
"Hmm… that might work, but later. She would expect it now."

>>339972
"Nothing, forget about it. Let's get back to business, shall we?"
Walk up to her again.
"So, first thing first, what will we do with that stutter of yours?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339978

>>339969
Back off slightly.
"Ready to show you that was not luck any day.."

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339981

>>339977
"I… I d-don't know…"

Sidus [Rogue] 339983

>>339978
"Not now, I have a friend to help."

>>339981
"Mhmm… Ponies might stutter when they are unsure of themselves. Do you have any insecurities?"

Papaver Field [Mage] 339984

>>339981
"Think about what you want to say before speaking?"

Jonagold [Male Earth Pony Knight] 339985

I'll just keep to myself for this one, since I think it's kinda cute.

Star Hopper [Cleric] 339987

>>339983
I hand my head in shame
"Y-yes…"

>>339984
"Uh…."

Sidus [Rogue] 339989

>>339987
"And those are? Is it about your magic? Or weapons? Your looks?"
