It is a peaceful day in Canterlot.
With the great threats of Ironhide and Strife banished, there hasn't been much for our heroes to do but tell stories to kids and visit royal banquets.
But such complacence is not for every pony.
Radiant is having a bad day. After being called out on her general lack of scholarly knowledge, she has come to the Canterlot Royal Archives to do some research.
That'll show those eggheads she can be smart too when she needs to.
But little does she know an old friend is, by happenstance, visiting the archives as well.
Campfire, the fire mage with a mysterious flaming form he occasionally takes, is there looking for information on Elementals and Elemental Lords.
And he has found what he wanted in an ancient record of artifacts. Artifacts from a place once called Flutter Valley.

He rolls a few forms out to you before sinking back down under the papers.

You exit the archives and after a short walk through the palace grounds, reach the palace proper.
The guards at the door recognize Radiant and Numitor, and step aside with a bow.
The palace itself has been repaired of all the damage it suffered under the wrath of Strife, and the interior is bathed in sunlight reflected off the numerous gilded surfaces.
You make your way through the warm light towards the throne room, where some guests are leaving. It seems Celestia has been busy today.
There are still some diplomat types talking to the Princess of the Sun. You can butt in or wait for a while.

It details the origin of the rifts - a broken time spell that is rending reality apart, merging parts of time, looking for something in the timestream.
It also says that time is short. Come morning, and unless the spell is halted, the world will only have a day left before the spell goes out of control entirely, and threatens the whole world.
