Diamond Dog Fortress Campfire 382658[Last 50 Posts]

Things are finally starting to go well for this fortress. The miners have had no serious accidents and continue to uncover gems to carve and ore that can be separated into silver and copper. Crafters of various kinds churn out goods to sell to traders as other workers create things for use by the citizens off the fortress. The farmers harvest all sorts of pleasant crops from the subterranean farms and wonder what sorts of things the surface farms will produce. The fortress's doctor trains his slaves to aid him, having all but given up on finding competent help among the other dogs in the fortress. Some of the pups born years ago are now old enough to run around on their own, away from the supervision of their parents.

Everyone but Lorik, start play however you would like.

Lorik, you wake up strapped to a bed in the hospital.

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 382659

Wake up!

Koka [Monk] 382660

Bakin' n' wakin'.

Did I have time to give Cook any good lessons?

Those idiots.

Clearly that incompetent fool of a doctor distracted me and caused me to miscast!

Wake up from my bed.

Slave update. How's we doin'?

I suppose I wake up and go grab some breakfast.
Is it any good?
'1d10'
And how are my assistants doing?

Roll #1 5 = 5

Campfire 382665

>>382659
You wake up. Roll to see if you can remember what you are supposed to do.

>>382660
All your good stuff was lost during the shipwreck, the only stuff you have is the less-than-good stuff. You give Coook some pointers while walking to the kitchen.

>>382661
the donkey pokes his head into your room then leaves when he sees you are awake.

>>382662
You wake up still cuddling the slave against your chest. You can feel her steady breathing as she continues to sleep.

>>382663
The female gryphon keeps getting better and better and her works look almost good enough to present to traders now. The male gryphon has had plenty of vermin to hunt and is quickly becoming a benefit to the fortress.

>>382664
It's a cold brain, kidney, and tallow pie. Could be worse. Bowing to them seems to have caused them to regress quite a bit.

Lorik [Doctor/Cleric/Stonecrafter] 382666

>>382665
I growl but stay put, I guess.

I'm up. And having spent the night cleaning my shop, it should be spick and span.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 382669

>>382665
I frown and only eat half of the pie.
"I suppose we should get to work now…"
I sigh and return to my forge to make some armor, with my assistants helping. 2 breastplates for now.

But Ah dun like less-than-good stuff!

Shake and wake the pony up by squeezing her flank.
"Does pony want to sleep more or will pony make light breakfast for both of us. Bark need to let arm rechecked at healers before work."

Campfire 382680

>>382666
A few minutes later the Doctor enters the room and crosses his arms across his chest.
"Took you long enough to wake up. Will you leave my hospital peacefully to do I need to call some brusers from the barracks?"

>>382667
The only thing you can remember is that your zebra is good at remembering.

>>382668
It is sparkling clean.

>>382669
"Yes, Master."
They are a bit clumsy and mess you up as you try to hammer the metal into shape. The finished breastplates do not look very good.

>>382670
You burn the food you were trying to cook to a crisp.

>>382671
They are also doing well. The archer in the group is digging some improvements for the archery range.

>>382672
She yawns as she wakes up and rubs the sleep out of her eyes.
"I will fetch us breakfast, Master. Does the Master want anything in particular?"

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 382682

>>382680
Is she awake? If not, poke her sides a few times with a finger.

Koka [Monk] 382684

>>382680
Frown and Try again.

Can slaves ever progress in skill level?

Roll #1 10 + 1 = 11

"I work here. I was put in charge."

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 382689

>>382680
"Plain soup and bread. Nothing fancy for Bark. If no soup, then something to make bread tasty."
With that I stand up and test out my arm, is it still not functioning. If not I might go to the healer and have it checked up again.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 382695

>>382680
Good. Now I need to think up exercises to teach Gem about delicacy, and controlling her strength. If only there was some talc floating around somewhere.

Can I at least try to fix them?

Roll #1 3 = 3

Campfire 382841

>>382682
She stretches and opens her eyes, but stays on the floor.
"Good morning, Master. What will I be doing for you today."

>>382684
"Yes, Mistr-"
Before he can finish speaking you have thrown together several roasts and placed them into different ovens.
Yes.

>>382686
He growls at you.
"You would have killed the fortress's first patient if it hadn't been for me. I was able to save him from your touch, but he will be crippled for the rest of his life now. If you agree to get out of my hospital, and never come back, I won't tell the Alpha what you did."

>>382689
"Yes, Master."
She bows and leaves your room. Your arm is still hanging limply so you go to the hospital. A unicorn stallion meets you out front.
"Hello, sir. The doctor is having a talk with the magical healer right now. Can you wait?"

>>382695
>>382708
No time, you've got a lot of things that need carving and decorating.

>>382698
You tell a few jokes and get a couple of small smiles, but they disappear quickly.

>>382705
The shafts are a bit rough and splintery, but diamond dogs have paws tough enough to take a few splinters.

Crunch [Knight] 382858

>>382841
Far from my best work, but if a few slivers are all they have to worry about, then they can suck it up.

Let's go take a look at the outer edges of the fortress. Are there any places that might look good for anti-siege emplacements?

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 382859

>>382841
"Remember!"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 382860

>>382841
I meant the breastplates! But that works too I guess.
Well…
If just simple jokes won't work, then maybe positive reinforcement will again.
Using the two breastplates I made, I attempt to show them how to modify something after it's been forged. In this case, improve them so that they can actually fit a dog.
'1d10'

Roll #1 1 = 1

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 382861

>>382841
I look at my dangling arm.
"Bark can wait, yes. Can healer heal this?" I show my limping arm.

"Bark dont feel a thing, it dangles and dont obey Bark's command." I frown and lower my ear.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 382869

>>382841
I'll grumble a bit. This was easier with an assistant. And without those stab wounds in the back.
I'll carve a few gems, then remember I need to eat. '1d10+4'

Roll #1 5 + 4 = 9

Campfire 382908

>>382858
There are a few differently colored flags sticking out of ground or hanging from trees. It seems like there is some disagreement among the masons as to where where walls and gates should be placed, as well as where additional things like watchtowers should go.

>>382859
She smiles up at you.
"But of course, Master. Do you have anything you wish me to remember now or are you ready to start the day, Master?"

>>382860
You try to show them how to fix it, but end up destroying the breastplates while giving your demonstration. The slaves whimper and apologize for messing you up while the breastplates were being made.

>>382861
"Maybe. You would need to talk to the healer for that, sir."

>>382869
Your carve up a bunch of gems then go to the dining hall. The room only has a few dogs in it, and you can see the glassmaker sitting by himself.

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 382915

>>382908
"Okay." I nod at the servant and sit on a chair.

"Tell Bark when it is turn to heal arm of his." I then wait patiently.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 382917

>>382908
Good. Grab something to eat, and then go over to the Glassmaker.
"Ho, glassmaker. How's business?"

Crunch [Knight] 382918

>>382908
Examine the flags. Can I get a general idea over what they're disagreeing about?

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 382929

>>382908
I frown and sigh.
"It's very much alright… it's my mistake."
I set them aside to be melted down into new ingots while I begin hammering away two new ones with their assistance.
'1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 382930

>>382908
I think for a bit.
"What do?"

Koka [Monk] 382949

>>382841
"C'mon. Go on.
Show me what you… Feel."
Smile at him.

Campfire 383015

>>382915
"Yes, sir."
The unicorn sits in a chair behind the waiting room's desk.

>>382917
He looks a little surprised when he sees you.
"How are you doing, Pom? I've not seen you for a while. Anyways, business is going great. I was able to strike a deal with the dogs running to ashery and kiln so now I have a steady supply of pearlash. Now that I have pearlash the glass I'm making looks even better."
He raises his mug, which you notice is made of clear glass instead of the more common green kind.

>>382918
The difference in colors seems to be in order to show which flags belong to which dog. It looks like they are disagreeing over where to build the walls and gates, and whether or not there should be watchtowers. You are not a trained mason, so there are probably things you are missing here.

>>382929
The breastplates turn out fine this time. The slaves do not smile, and instead silently begin preparing for the next thing to be made.

>>382930
She stands up and stretches again.
"Welllllll, Master. The first thing we should do is get breakfast. Don't you agree, Master?"

>>382949
He looks a little confused, but gets too work trying to make some food.
[1d10+1]
+1 from lesson
+3 from demonstration
-3 from skill level

Roll #1 2 + 1 = 3

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 383017

>>383015
I nod.
"Food good. Food where? Pony lead!"

Lorik 383018

Where am I needed?

Mending roll here: '1d10+2'

Roll #1 2 + 2 = 4

Crunch [Knight] 383021

>>383015
Well then I'll go see the masons to ask about this stuff.

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 383022

>>383015
Wait.

…… look at the pony and hope that I be called.

Campfire 383023

>>383015
He puts a bruised strawberry on a piece of bread and smile turns to face you.
"Did I do good, Mistress?"

Koka [Monk] 383024

>>383023
Well.
Let's see.
'1d10-2' for taste.

Roll #1 10 - 2 = 8

Koka [Monk] 383026

>>383024
That's just too good. Gimme a description or something.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 383028

>>383015
I'll nod.
"Fine glass. Gem cutting has been busy as well, especially after that new vein cropped up. Trying to teach my slave to cut properly so we can work through it all, but she seems to have a problem controlling her strength. Ended up with a shard in her eye, so until that's out, she's stuck in the hospital."
I'll grumble a bit.
"Shop's too damn quit without that oaf in it."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 383046

>>383015
"See? With your assistance, I was able to properly forge good ones!"
I try to give them a half hearted smile, hoping it will have some effect.

Campfire 383066

>>383017
"Same place as last time, Master."
She leads you out of your room and into the food prep area. There is a kitchen here with several barrels of food that is either fresh or reheated, and in a room beyond here you can see the large dining hall.

>>383024
The taste of it blows you away. The strawberry he chose had been sitting out just long enough to reach the peak of its flavor and its consistency to be the perfect mix of firm and juicy. The bread itself has a faint taste of the food it had been stored with. It is also quite fluffy, so as you bite into the meal the juice from the strawberry soaks into the bread instead of spilling down your chin. You are pretty certain that the pony had no idea he was creating a masterpiece.

>>383028
He winces when he hears what happened to here.
"If you want a replacement there are still a couple of goats. I use one of them every now and then when I go to collect sand."

>>383046
"We live to serve, Master."
They speak with monotone voices.

Koka [Monk] 383071

>>383066
Widen my eyes.
"Cook, you be a genius!"
Smile wide and take him up, spinning around in joy.
"Ya know what'ya just did?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 383078

>>383066
I wince.
"Yes… a- and serve you do very well!"
I try to smile again.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 383083

>>383066
I'll shake my head.
"And start fresh? No, I'll just have to come up with a few exercises to teach her to control her strength once she gets out. And to use her damn horn instead of her hooves. Unicorn magic is supposed to be good at fine movements. I thought she'd be perfect for gem cutting and setting."
Thinking a bit, I'll look back at the glasscutter.
"What are the odds you can make a glass eye, in case she loses hers, that can be fit with gems for the iris?"

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 383086

>>383066
Sit down at a table.
"Pony bring food!"

Crunch [Knight] 383096

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 383097

Campfire 383125

>>383071
"I-am? thank you, Mistress."
You try to pick him up, but he is about as tall as you are, so all you can do is lift his front end up.
"W-what did I do, Mistress?"

>>383078
"Thank you, Master."
There is a tiny bit of life in there voices this time.

>>383083
"A glass eye? That shouldn't be hard enough to make. The gem iris might be tricky, but that would be your part of the job."

>>383086
"Yes, Master."
She leaves then returns with two mugs and three plates balanced on her back, as well as a plate in her mouth. She sets the plate in her mouth and a mug on her back across from you, them places the two plates and remaining mug in front of you. After that she sits down across from you and starts eating.

>>383021
You find them all in the mines preparing a new storage area for excess stone.
"The flags? Those are how we mark out where we want walls, gates, watchtowers, moats, tunnels, traps, and other things to be made. Of course, until these idiots realize that I'm ri-"
"Who are you calling an idiot, stonebrains?"
"Watch it, dirtmouth."
"He's right, shithead, all of your ideas are terrible."
They start to growl at each other.

>>383022
Unless Groves shows up to roll and heal your arm, which I doubt he will, there is nothing for you to do in the hospital. Sorry.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 383134

>>383125
I'll nod.
"Yes. And lately it seems I've had quite the run of bad luck. If she ends up losing the eye, I'll put in an order for several, just in case."

Crunch [Knight] 383135

>>383125
I bark at them both to defuse the argument.

"Stop this. We need those to defend the fortress. Unless you'd rather wait to finish your feng shui during a raid?"

Koka [Monk] 383136

>>383125
"Ya made a new recipe! A great one!"
Explain to him the deal with the flavored bread and the juicy strawberry.
'1d10'
"Get it? Yer made yoo first true dish!"
Grin wide.

Roll #1 6 = 6

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 383142

>>383125
I eat my food then stare at her.
"Dig now?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 383155

>>383125
Good.
"Perhaps… perhaps we should make a few trinkets to sell the next time a merchant comes?"
I scratch my chin.
"Do the three of you have any ideas for designs?"

Lorik 383156

Campfire 383190

>>383134
"Sure thing. There isn't much demand for anything other than glass blocks."
He eats in silence for a few minutes, then looks back up at you.
"So, you are one of the original seven, right? What sort of perks does being a senior dog have?"

>>383135
They calm down a bit.
"That's part of the problem. Until a raid comes we don't know the best places to build walls."
"We've only got so much stone right now, and walls, gates, and towers take a lot to build."
"They're right. One of the biggest arguments is where to start he wall, not to mention how tall it should be and if it should be wide enough for guards to walk on."

>>383136
His eyes go wide as he understands.
"Does this mean I am a cook now? Thank you for teaching me, Mistress, this is the best day of my life!"

>>383142
She finishes her meal.
"Unless you want more food or sleep, Master."

>>383155
The unicorn levitates a scrap of paper off a table.
"The traders have requested halberds, warhammers, longswords, shields and bucklers, armor, and musical instruments, Master."

>>383156
The doctor explains to you that until you can prove you have control over your magic, you are not allowed in the hospital unless you are a patient. You lead Barkspawn out of the hospital, but are unable to Mend his arm.

383194

>>383190
What a dick

Try again

Roll #1 10 + 2 = 12

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 383200

>>383190
Shake my head.
"No slack. Must work. Useful dog. Not kicked out pack."

Crunch [Knight] 383202

>>383190
Settle back down.

"I guess you have a point there. No naturla fortifications we can work with yet?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 383204

>>383190
"Oh."
Hmm…
"Perhaps a musical instrument would be interesting."
Can I wrap my head around how to make a flute of some sort?
'1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 383205

>>383190
"To my knowledge? None, other than maybe being able to grump at the Alpha every now and again. Out loud. Had to build my own shop, carve my own room… believe it or not, I'm the one who dug out most of the hospital wing."
I'll shake my head.
"Though maybe the Alpha listening to your idea was a bit of a perk. For all I know, it could have gone over just as well without me."

Koka [Monk] 383207

>>383190
Laugh a bit and let go of him.
"Sure ya are. But dun' rest easy just yet.
Ah'm proud of ya, really.
Naw letz get some workin' done!"

And then I took a few dozens forms of bread and placed them between a mix of dry meat and other flavors, to rest for a few days.

"Ya gotta choose a name for the dish."

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 383210

>>383125
Who is Groves character in DDF btw? Is he playing?

I look at the slave receptionist.
"Perhaps Bark can talk to Healer?"

Campfire 383233

>>383194
You place your paws on his arm and concentrate as hard as your can. Barkspawn can feel tingling as his nerve reattach his arm to his brain and his paw regrows itself. As if that wasn't enough, you also finely tone the muscles in the arm to get ridd of any flab that had built up while it was out of commission. The doctor watches all of this from the doorway of the hospital.
"So when it works, it works miracles? Tell you what: fix the eye of Pom Rainian's slave and I will let you have a job here under me."

>>383200
"Of course, Master. Follow me."
She leads you back down into the mines where the foredog greets you.
"Welcome back, big guy. Pick a level and dig tunnels looking for gems and metal. No digging down, understand?"

>>383202
"Above ground and in the place you all decided to settle? We would have to build out own fortifications, which could be knocked down by a siege engine or big, angry monster. If I was in charge I would have everything important move below the aquifers to where we have good, solid stone to work with, but oh well."

>>383204
You can't figure it out. It seems impossible to make a hollow metal tube with holes in it.

>>383205
He seems surprised.
"Really? I thought you must have at least some sorts of privileges. I would have tried to get some if I were you."

>>383207
He looks deep in thought for a few minutes before tentatively speaking.
"Strawberry…bread?"

>>383210
He is playing Lorik.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 383244

>>383233
Dammit.
Uh.
Consult my assistants and give it another go??
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Koka [Monk] 383249

>>383233
Smile.
"Strawberry bread. Ah love it.
Do me a' favor. Go ta dha quartermaster. Tell him Ah need a larger bed."

And after he goes…
Bake a cake! A special one! Just for him.
He did so good…
'1d10+1'

Roll #1 3 + 1 = 4

Lorik 383253

>>383233
"I was put in charge of the hospital. Thanks to your pre-historic healing methods I miscasted. Either I get my position back or I'm leaving. Very simple."

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 383255

>>383233
I nod.
Turn to my slave.
"Pony, remember! No dig down!"

Pick a middle level and start digging!
'1d10+3'

Roll #1 2 + 3 = 5

Crunch [Knight] 383257

>>383233
"Wouldn't it be better to stop them before they got underground?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 383258

>>383233
I'll shrug.
"What would I do with them? So long as I've my shop and a supply of gems to work with, I'm happy."

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 383265

>>383233
>>383253
I move and stretch my arm then grin.
"Thank! Bark is gratefull. Will make more traps because of Healers help!"

Campfire 383272

>>383244
They aren't sure either. As far as you can tell a mold wouldn't work because part of the mold would get stuck inside the flute, and curling a sheet into a tube and hammering the two ends together also would not work for obvious reasons.

>>383249
There are no eggs, so you substitute prepared eyeballs instead. You slave comes back a few minutes after you put the cake in the oven.
"The gryphon in charge says she will see what she can do, Mistress."

>>383255
"Yes, Master."
You start digging exploratory tunnels but only manage to find rocks, which you leave in nice sized chunks for the haulers.

>>383257
They grin.
"You would think so, but you've got to remember what we are: Diamond Dogs. If we build things right and work with the trap makers by the time an invading force gets anywhere near our military they will be bloodied, tired, and mostly dead. Can you imagine walking through twisting corridors full of traps, with slits carved into the walls to allow for archers and balistas to fire at you?"
"This is pretty much the only thing we agree on."
"Yeah, walls would be good to slow the enemy down and give everydog a chance to get to safety, but fighting on the surface should be avoided if possible."

>>383258
He shrugs.
"I dunno. Maybe have some dogs you can boss around, a nicer and bigger bedroom, your own dining room, a fine bitch, the list goes on and on."

>>383265
Your arm is working perfectly.

>>383253
He raises an eyebrow.
"Take it up with the Alpha when he wakes up, or take my deal. Your choice."

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 383277

>>383272
Go one level lower, and dig sideways there.

"You have a point. So what about traps then? Do we have the materials for them?"

Campfire 383307

>>383277
You strike gold this time. Well, gems, not gold. A long vein of nice, pretty blue gems. Your zebra picks one up.
"These are beautiful, master."

>>383279
After drawing a few diagrams the two of you are able to figure it out, and get to work. Two flutes turn out alright, but the other two get mangled despite your best efforts.

>>383281
Springgreen Jumps to her hooves and wipes off her face when you come back.
"Master! I am sorry, but I did not know how long you would be gone so I ate without you. I did not touch your food though; bread and simple soup, just like you asked."

>>383282
Your pokerface remains intact.
"Take today off? What do you mean, Mistress?"

>>383286
"Fine, fine, but at least tell me you decorated your furniture."

>>383296
"Oh yes, the smiths have been making things and the trapmakers have been putting them together.
"Trying to, anyways."
"From what I've gathered the traps are going to three different types. Traps with spinning, circular sawblades that pop out of the walls, traps that drop stones on the enemy from above, and traps that will lock whatever sets them off in the cages we got when we bought the slaves."

Koka [Monk] 383312

He throws himself at your feet, bawling.
"Please tell me how I failed you, Mistress!"

>>383316
"Yes, if the Alpha orders the fortress to be moved to the stone layer under the aquifer."
"There is no room to dig in the living area now, it's just one big clusterfuck."
"No offence to whoever first designed it, of course."
"The enemy won't show up without doing recon, and you had better believe they will go after us the civilians instead of a mostly empty mine."

>>383317
"A window? Isn't that a bit of a security hazard?"

>>383318
She pouts up at you as you shovel out the gems with your paws.

Campfire 383360

He grins.
"Now you're thinking."
He raises his mug.
"A toast to clever crafters?"

>>383342
The best way to set things up would be to put cage traps at the very front and back of the hallway leading from the treasury/stockpile to the outside. Between the two rows of cage traps would be stonefall traps and weapon traps.

You an feel a sting as wet cloths start to dab at your wounds."

>>383653
You've got a very good room. It is three units long and three units wide, has a dresser for clothing, and chest for your belongings, the large bed you ordered earlier today, and a door separating it from the hallway.

>>383656
You finish the trap.
Your pony is one trap away from advancing to the next skill level. The places that still need traps are the hallway leading to the barracks, the way down into the pit, and randomly placed traps in the hallways in the living area.

Okay analyze the hallway leading to the barracks, what are the appropriate traps that would be good to install in this place? Perhaps some swinging axe traps or is that too dangerous?

"After we install the traps in this place, we take a rest pony."

Koka [Monk] 383705

>>383696
"Yeah, choose one then. That's why I got the big bed in the first place."

"Assistants… you're dismissed for the day. Please return to our room and keep toying with… with the flute to try and learn to play them."
I wince and grit my teeth, heading off towards the infirmary.

Koka [Monk] 384135

>>384128
"Why dun' ya wait in da room? I gotta do sumething alone now."

Once he's gone, go look for the gemcrafter.

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 384139

>>384131
Hug Lorik and lick the side of his face.
"You're Bark's favourite healer!"

>>384128
Look at Spring Green inside the cart and brush her mane.
"Is pony alright? Another mishap again." I frown.

Crunch [Knight] 384142

>>384128
Ah, excellent. Go check out some of her furniture.

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384143

>>384128
Look at her, and after a bit of thinking, ask.
"Why pony look strange?"
Poke her with a finger on the side.

Campfire 384150

>>384134
"Yes, Mistress."
The zebra looks uncertain about leaving you with your wound, but follows his orders. The doctor meets you at the door of the hospital and sighs when he sees your hand.
"Follow me."

>>384135
"Yes, Mistress."
He walks off towards the residential area.

>>384139
She pokes at her belly in wonder.
"Yes, Master. I am fine."

>>384131
the slave follows her owner's example and hugs you.
"Thank you, sir."

>>384142
She is carving a cabinet right now. It is plain, but there are no major flaws you can see.

>>384143
"I am a zebra, Master. My kind has stripes."

Koka [Monk] 384154

>>384150
And then I went to the gemcrafter.

Lorik 384155

>>384150
>>384139
I grumble as they hug me
"No need for thanks. My job to handle these things."

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384158

>>384150
"Zebra? What pony?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384159

>>384150
>mistress
pls
I follow him and await healing.
"Today has not gone well…"
I sigh.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384160

>>384154
And I'll be there right after I get a decent amount of Mica.
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

Campfire 384164

>>384154
Pom is probably still in his shop.

>>384155
The salve lets go of your leg.

>>384158
"No pony. Zebra."

>>384159
It's your fault for always playing chicks.

>>384159
"We all have them."
He hands you a piece of thick leather.
"Bite this while I fix up your hand."

>>384160
You take as much back to your shop as your runty little body can carry.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384167

>>384164
I bite down and try to resist the pain.
'1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Crunch [Knight] 384168

>>384150
"Good work. Your progress has been steady. Perhaps some of these can be sold to the next caravan."

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 384169

>>384155
"Lorik saves. This fort needs more dogs like you." I bow then turn to Green.

>>384150
I rub her belly.
"Enough traps for today. Rest for now."
Wash the cart of blood, put my tools in and head for my workshop.

Koka [Monk] 384172

>>384160
"Hey there. Ah'm Koka, da new cook."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384173

>>384164
Stupid lazy dogs and who is that outside my shop.
>>384172
I'll nod slightly.
"So, what do you need, then? I take it your slave was the one who was sent just to find my shop?"

Koka [Monk] 384183

>>384173
Nod.
"Yeah.
He's gud pony.
Ah need a gem carved. Got ya a special food fer payment."
Pull out both the blue gem and a Strawberry Bread.

Campfire 384187

>>384167
It hurts a lot, but you don't make any noise louder than a whimper as he cleans your paw, removes the splinters and stitches it up. He stands and wipes his brow.
"Your brother knows basic healing magic, right? have him take care of that if you want to get back to work son."

>>384168
"If Master thinks that would be a wise use for them, it will be done."

>>384169
She laughs and one of her back legs kicks while you rub her belly. She then helps you clean the cart and carry your tools and supplies back to your workshop.

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384189

>>384164
"You have pony body."
Scratch my head in confusion

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384193

>>384187
"I'm afraid I don't know… erm, where he is at the moment, but yes… I guess I will look for him."
With that, I depart and try to find Boyar.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384197

>>384183
"Considering my arms are full of rocks, that will have to wait a moment. Get the door, and we'll talk inside."

Campfire 384200

>>384189
She nods.
"So do donkeys."

>>384193
He is asleep in his room. What a lazy Alpha. I hope no one ever tries anything while he has his back turned.

Koka [Monk] 384203

>>384197
Nod and open the door for him.

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 384205

>>384187
I then grab something to bite, fruits would be good.
'1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Crunch [Knight] 384213

>>384187
"Hm. What is good for the fortress is good for us all. With such a surplus, maybe even your quarters shall receive some of your own."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384221

>>384203
"Thanks."
Once inside, I'll deposit the Mica in a small bin with the uncut jewels.
"So. What do you want carved? Simple square, sphere, get it mounted in something?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384222

>>384200
I poke him in the side.
"Brother, why are you still asleep?"

Campfire 384225

>>384205
You cannot find any in the food storage area.

>>384213
"Thank you for the offer, Master, but the other carpenters already decided to send my bad works there."

Koka [Monk] 384227

>>384221
Frown a bit.
"A strawberry.
Can ya do it?"

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384228

>>384200
"Donkeys not have pony body. Donkeys have body for pull cart."

Crunch [Knight] 384229

>>384225
"Did they now? I may have to have a word with them…"

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 384233

>>384225
Then grab some bread and anything that might go with it and give some to Spring Green.
"So what does pony learn today about trap making and dogs?" I laid back and let out a stressed breath.
"Bark can tell he learns a little thing or two today too." I relax.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384234

>>384227
"A… strawberry? You got somedog you've got an eye on, then?""

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384238

>>384225

>>384222
So is he gonna be NPC controlled or do I have to go get zulu?

Koka [Monk] 384240

>>384234
"Nah. It's tah celebrate sumethin' big."
Leave the slice of bread in front of him.
"Dis'."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384246

>>384240
"A sandwich?"
I'll eye the thing quizzically.

Campfire 384249

>>384228
"Well, it's the same basic shape, Master."

>>384229
"Yes sir, they did."

>>384233
You grab some bread and celery and return with it to the workshop. She starts munching on the celery.
"Taday I learned how to make stonefall traps, cage traps, buzzsaw traps, spike traps, and razor traps. I also learned how effective they can be. What I learned about diamond dogs is that they, or at least you, care very much for their slaves."

>>384238
You would have to get zulu.

Campfire 384254

>>384246
The donkey jack sticks his head into your workshop.
"Sir, when you have time the doctor wishes for you to meet with him."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384263

>>384254
"Right."

Koka [Monk] 384264

>>384246
10/10 taste sandwich with 10/10 preparation from expert cook.
I dunno how to describe that.
"See what' Ah mean?"

Boyar (Preacher) 384266

What's happening? Ask Prophecy, I suppose.

You should have told me you were running, Campfire.

Campfire 384269

>>384266
Sorry, I thought you would check the general.

Crunch [Knight] 384270

>>384249
"Well that is just wasteful. What do you see in it?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384272

>>384264
I'll eat it, I guess. Probably a bit faster after first bite.
"Hmm. Good. So. Strawberry gem. Want it set in anything? Or on a length of chain?"

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384275

>>384249
"Hooves?"

Koka [Monk] 384276

>>384272
"Can ya make it a pendant? Fer collars and necklaces."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384283

>>384276
"Fine, fine. I'll set to cutting it after I check on my slave in the hospital. This could be about her eye injury. Just leave the gem here and it'll be first thing made. I'll pass it along to another slave once it's finished."

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 384290

>>384249
"Good."
I eat my food, then look at her.
"Bark must care for his slave because she must be healthy if I need help."

I then pause for a moment.
"And if I need pony."
I then wipe my mouth and my paws then arrange the bed.

Koka [Monk] 384291

>>384283
"Thank ya!"
Grin and be off.
I'll pause here for tonight.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384297

>>384266
"Ah Brother, now you finally wake."
I show him my paw.
"Can you heal this?"

Boyar (Preacher) 384307

>>384297
"Of course."

"What did you do to it?"

'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Campfire 384332

>>384270
"How is it wasteful, Master? The furniture was not of good enough quality to be sold or given to diamond dogs, so it was sent to the slave quarters or turned into firewood."

>>384275
She waves a hoof at you.
"Hooves."

Are you going to the hospital?

>>384290
She tenses up when you say the last part.
"I live to serve, Master."

>>384291
Goodnight.

>>384307
You aren't able to summon enough power so soon after waking up.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384338

>>384332
I am. Heading to the hospital to see what that doctor wants to tell me about.
It had better be "her eye is all better, take her home."

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384339

>>384332
If I need to get my bandages checked, yes.

Aidi [DD Knight/Trapsmith/Farmer] 384346

>>384332
Seeing as how I missed Barkspawn at the Barracks, let just go and let off some steam by doing one of two things:

Build the archery range they wanted.
Practice with a crossbow. I need to be able to defend myself while outside.

Campfire 384354

>>384338
He cheerfully greets you.
"There you are, Pom. Did you know that Gem was pregnant?"

>>384339
I failed at responding to Fidget's post
Your wounds hurt a little bit but your slave hasn't said anything about you going back to the hospital yet.

>>384346
You get the archery range put together with the help of a few others. You start shooting and the bitch that found you in the cage joins you and promptly starts outshouting you.
"You don't get too much practice, do you?"

Crunch [Knight] 384355

>>384332
"The fortress is more than our home. Anything that makes it look bad should be taken care of as soon as we are able. Besides, I don't want you hurt because of shoddy work."

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 384358

>>384332
I then go and hop in the bed.
"Come. We have tomorrow to worry about." I open the blanket.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384360

>>384354
I'll just give him a flat stare.
"What."

Boyar (Preacher) 384366

>>384347
>>384307
Give healing another try.

"Give me a moment, brother. Heh."

Roll #1 9 = 9

Aidi [DD Knight/Trapsmith/Farmer] 384371

>>384354
"No. I'm usually working the farms with the buffalo slave, or negotiating with the caravans that come. I want to learn how to fight so I can venture into the woods by myself and get things I need for them, not to mention that most dogs only accept strength as a redeeming factor, not a quick wit or a head for numbers. You seem pretty good with that bow, can you give me a few lessons while I'm here?"

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384374

>>384354
Look at my bandages, then at her.
"Bandages hurt."

Campfire 384402

>>384355
"Do not worry, Master, I know which beds are the safest to sleep in."

>>384358
She slowly walks over to the bed and hops in.

>>384360
He laughs.
"That's the same face I made. I thought she was fat because you were spoiling her, but then her water broke while I was changing her bandages. Anyways, long story short: It's a colt."

>>384366
You get it this time. The stitches fall out as the line on his paw vanishes.

>>384371
"Sure thing."
She leans her bow against a wall and tries to move you arms and body so that you have a better firing stance.
[1d10]
"So of us are smart enough to appreciate a dog with quick wit and booksmarts, you know."

>>384374
She finishes her little project with the leather strap and put it on her head. the way she has it tied lets the gem sit on her forehead above and between her eyes.
"Follow me to the hospital, Master."

I let out a small, relieved smile.
"Ah, thank you brother."
I sigh immediately after though.

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 384416

Seeing her tensing up. I brush her mane and breath out out of stress.
"Bark is stressed but if pony dont want to couple with him then Bark will just cuddle to sleep."

>>384402
"But do the other slaves?"

Point at that thing on her head.
"What?"

>>384411
"You are welcome. I need to find Prophecy and find out what requires my attention."

Find Prophecy.

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384440

I nod and depart as well.
Maybe…
No.
I return to the woodworkers shop and try to craft out another puzzlebox.

>>384416
"I-I live too serve, Master, and will do whatever you wish. It's just-just that…"
She trails off and stairs at the wall.

>>384418
She applauds as your arrow strikes the bullseye.
"Perfect! Now do it again to prove it wasn't luck."

>>384423
She looks over her shoulder and grins at you.
"It goes well with my eyes, doesn't it, Master? You want your slave to look pretty, don't you? Master surely does not want the other diamond dogs making fun of him because he has an ugly slave, right?"

>>384425
You find him inspecting the above ground farms.
"Did you have a nice nap, Alpha?"

>>384440
You make a puzzlebox. The thing will take quite a bit off work to solve.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384483

>>384474
I'll pinch the bridge of my nose for a moment, and sigh.
"That will have her out of the shop even more, then."
Shaking my head, I'll continue.
"No matter. I may as well pay her a visit while I'm here. If you'd lead me to her."

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384484

>>384474
I narrow my eyes.
"No… they think dig dogs not good as them. Kopaz has not ugly slave! Zebra say they not laugh at Kopaz?"

Boyar (Preacher) 384487

>>384474
"Indeed I did. Thank you for asking.

"What needs my attention, Prophecy? Did the new beds and chests reach the militia? What about the new weapons and armor?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384489

>>384474

Campfire 384534

>>384483
"So long as she is fit to receive visitors. She is a new mother, after all. Wait here."
He leaves, then comes back a minute later.
"Come on, but try not to make any loud noises."
He leads you to one of the back rooms. Gem is curled up next to a small colt swaddled in a blanket. She smiles at you when you enter the room.

>>384484
"Not for having an ugly slave, no Master. Please come, the doctor should look at your bandages."

>>384487
"The new beds and chest have reach the militia. Your bother has been making a few weapons and pieces of armor with his slaves, but he seems more interested in treating them like people than working from what I hear. The masons and siege engineers would like to have a word with your about creating a more defensible fortress. A few of the infant pups are old enough to leave their mothers' arms and wander around the fortress on their own, so you might want to at least check up on them or their parents."
He cuts a tall stalk of something that is growing in the farm plot, strips its leaves, then cracks it in two and offers and half to you.
"Taste this and tell me what you think."

>>384489
Boyar is talking with Prophecy in the above ground farm plots.

>>384493
Aidi?
Your arrow goes wide and hits the berm behind the target.
"Oooh, too bad. Try again."

>>384516
She rolls over to face you, blushing.
"It's just that…when they taught us how to provide companion they trained me and the other females on Runts. They did that so they would not have to worry about us becoming, um, loose."
She looks you up and down again and gulps.
"You are a dig dog. Do you see why I am worried?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384538

>>384534
"Brother? Are you busy?"

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384540

I smile, nod and follow.
"Good slave."

Aidi [DD Knight/Trap/Farm/Broker] 384542

Go see 'em (though I suppose I'll also wait for Moloch to talk to me).

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384547

>>384534
Quietly, I'll speak.
"Why didn't you tell me you were with foal? Or that you needed to have something arranged?"

>>384542
Your arrow strikes the target again, but does not land in the center.
"Very good. How many times have you used a bow before?"

>>384544
He nods and sucks on the stalk he broke in half.
They are ready when you are.

>>384547
You have no idea. He looks like the unicorn Moloch owns, but he also looks like the one the doctor owns. All unicorns look the same, man.

>>384554
She stays still as you take measurements with a finger or three. It will be a tight fit, but you shouldn't do any damage so long as you don't do anything wild with her.
"M-Master? What is your decision?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384568

>>384544
"Ah, Brother.
I finished up a few sets of armor that you requested and I was wondering about your opinion of them. Would you mind following me?"
I show him the 10/10 silver armor and whatever else I've made.
"Some is… not the highest quality, I'll admit."

Aidi [DD Knight/Trap/Farm/Broker] 384569

>>384563
"None. In the old fort, I was just another dog, so I made do with an axe and a plank of wood that called itself a buckler. Since I've been farminf though, I thought I should learn to properly defend myself and my slaves."

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384570

>>384563
"Dog doc where?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384575

>>384563
"Still, despite it, you both appear to be healthy. That's good. I'll need to arrange bedding."
I'll think for a moment.
"Might need larger quarters. Near the shop, maybe. Yes, that will do."
I'll continue thinking.
"Who sired it? Need to know who to speak to to make sure they ask next time."

Boyar (Preacher) 384583

>>384568
Yeah, I follow.

"This suit of armor is outstanding, Moloch! What are your plans for it?"

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 384584

I stroke her mane.
"Bark will take care of Spring. Bark promise."

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384589

>>384583
"Erm… silver isn't exactly the most useful material for armor. More suited for swords. This is more of a show piece than anything else."
Also I think it's just a breastplate. One ingot just makes one piece of armor.

Boyar (Preacher) 384604

>>384589
"Oh, I'm sure, but it's an exquisite example of craftsdogship. Good work, Moloch. Perhaps we can display this somewhere. I think we've been needing a chapel dedicated to our god, and this would make an excellent part of the altar, I think."

Campfire 384605

>>384568
Aisde from the 10/10 silver armor there are a couple of silver warhammers, some good quality bronze swords, and some not so good quality bronze armor pieces.

>>384569
"Well, you certainly are a natural."
She leans against the wall.
"Keep on shooting."

>>384570
"Attending to a newborn, sir."
He places a fresh bandage over the last of your puncture wounds.
"Please sleep on your back tonight, sir, and come back in the morning to have your bandages changed."

>>384575
She looks away.
"I do not know, Master. It was dark, you see."

>>384584
She does her best to stand and present herself even as your weight presses down on her. She grits her teeth as you press against her entrance, and grinds them as your slowly start to slide. Her back legs start to wobble as tears form in her eyes. She tries to tell you stop, but before you can her legs collapse and both of you crash down on the bed. You can hear her wail as you are not so gently ripped out of her by the fall.

>>384589
Right.

I nod to my slave.
"Remember!"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384613

>>384604

"That would be… rather nice, to have my forgedogship displayed like that.

"Then there is no helping it. Still, in the future, do remember I said that I would arrange such things if the need strikes. Once you are healed, and the foal is strong enough to walk without assistance, we will continue your training. Is that clear?"

Campfire 384630

>>384610
"Yes, Master. How do you wish to relax now?"

>>384611
She whimpers a little as you lift her with a paw and move her tail to the side with the other. You cannot spot any physical damage to her. In fact, she looks a little bit looser now. That should make things easier for you in the future.

>>384617
You miss again.
"Want another lesson?"

>>384619
"I am sorry, Master. You were asleep and it came upon me very suddenly. That is clear, Master. May I watch you work once my foal is has reached a few months of age?"

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384634

>>384630
"…still no dig?"
I think for another moment.
"Count gems?"

Aidi [DD Knight/Trap/Farm/Broker] 384635

"That sounds fun. Do you want to go to the mine and see if there are gems that have not been taken to the carvers yet, Master?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384653

>>384645
"Perhaps. He might have more talent in setting though, and you in cutting. Would be interesting to see. Until then, you are to rest and heal. How is your eye feeling?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384655

>>384613
>>384616
Well Boyar's done responding so I guess I'll return to my assistants.
I try to subtly peek inside without them seeing me.
How are they?

Lorik [Doctor/Cleric/Stonecrafter] 384656

Right, now that I have the time to spend on here again…

Where am I? I'll need to go talk to that guy I met when I arrived. Prophecy I think his name was.

Campfire 384657

>>384648
"This way, Master."
She smirks at the unicorn as she catches him glowering at her gem and leads you back to the mines. you can see a few small barrels full of uncut gems of various colors.

>>384649
You hit close to the bullseye again.
"Very good. If you can hit it five more times I think you will be good enough with a bow for me to give you one we have lying around.
I forgot to mention, if you miss more than twice in a row you loose your posture, and thus your +1 bonus.

>>384650
Her breathing slows a little and she looks at you with teary eyes.
"How bad is it, Master? Do I need to go to the doctor?"

>>384653
She frowns.
"I can still feel it sometimes, Master, even though it isn't there."

>>384655
The stallion and zebra are playing a simple song with their flutes while the mare tries to sleep.

>>384656
You are wandering around. You find him supervising some construction going on near the pit.
"Can I help you, dog?"

Moloch [Charlatan Smith/Woodworker] 384660

>>384657
I walk inside.
"Hello assistants. How are we doing? I see that you two are progressing very well on your flutes. Are you enjoying them?"

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384661

>>384657

"What do you mean it isn't there? I thought the doctor was supposed to try and save it. And use that healerdog to fix the eye."

Boyar (Preacher) 384663

>>384657
Go talk to the siege dogs.

"I understand you have some plans to improve the fort. Let's talk about that."

Lorik [Doctor/Cleric/Stonecrafter] 384665

"Thrown out of the hospital by that idiot doctor. Knocked me unconscious after botching a healing spell."

"Nothing bad. No wound little pony. Bark's fault for being too excited." I hug her closer.

Campfire 384680

>>384660
They nod. The unicorn gives his standard answer about slaves enjoying following their orders, but the zebra tacks on a comment about the two of them enjoying it more than the mare, who groans and presses the pillows further against her head.

>>384661
You don't remember that you aren't supposed to dig, but your digging muscles hurt for some reason. It is night time, so you think the foredog is asleep. Dogs sleep at night, most of the time.

>>384662
"I am sorry, Master, but the doctor said my eye had too much damage done to it for him to save it, and that the other doctor was asleep. He didn't wake up in tie and my eye had to be removed."

>>384665
He raises an eyebrow.
"Really? How badly did you botch the spell?"

>>384667
You start to tighten it, but the bitch stops you.
"Do you know what you are doing? The string is fine, if you mess with it and it snaps it cold send you to the hospital for a long time."

>>384676
She nuzzles you a little.
"If-if Master wishes to continue I will obey."

Lorik [Doctor/Cleric/Stonecrafter] 384687

"Very badly. A rare case of bad. Mend spell is high tier magic. Dog I used it on almost died."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384689

>>384680
I'll frown mightily.
"I see. Luckily, I had arranged for that potentiality. Unfortunately, this may effect your cutting, since depth perception is very important."
I'll sigh a bit.
"I will just have to teach you accordingly. Rest, and raise the foal well."
And then I'll let her rest. And go look for that healerdog.

Boyar (Preacher) 384690

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384700

>>384680
Strange…

Anyway, look at the gems.
Then at my slave.
"Think Kopaz can get gems? Kopaz dig them."

Campfire 384707

>>384682
You manage to shoot the ceiling somehow.
"Want my help again?"

>>384683
"You have not been listening to them play, Mistress."
The unicorn and zebra look a little hurt at her comment but cheer up when you show them the puzzlebox.
"What is it, Mistress? Are we to be making them for you?"

>>384685
"Thank you, Master."
She turns back over and snuggles up to be your little spoon.

>>384687
"Well that explains why he acted that way. I can't say I blame him."

>>384689
She looks like she has something to say, but her colt wakes up and she shifts her attention to him. You find the healer dog outside talking to Prophesy.

>>384663
You find a group of about nine dogs huddled around a table with some scrolls and candles on it. They stand as you enter.
"We're glad you finally came to see us, Alpha."
"We have a lot of plans for the improved fortress."
"The reason they're so big is because it's actually a new fortress. It will take a lot of work, but I'm sure it will be worth it."
"Yes, plenty of room for everyone, solid stone walls, plenty of room to expand. Everything a fortress really needs."

>>384700
She shakes her head.
"Remember, Master? No digging. Maybe you can sort the gems by color?"

"No, but I would like you to… test it out for me. Yes, test it out."

Boyar (Preacher) 384713

"So you want to build an entirely new fortress? Where?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384715

I'll just glare at this lazy doctor who does not care how he inconvenienced me.
"Now I will have to make her a false one, and we don't have any enchanters of any variety to make it actually work. I'm just lucky she was with foal, so that once it grows there is one to take over after a certain point."

Lorik [Doctor/Cleric/Stonecrafter] 384737

>>384729
I glare at him
"Blame other doctor for knocking me unconscious and tying me up. Cannot mend that way. Would have wanted to perform my job but was prevented. I am sorry to hear she lost it."

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384741

>>384737
"Nearly murdering your patient was cause enough to bind you. You healing my slave's eye was going to be the one chance I gave you to not be an incompetent. And you slept through it, though I told the doctor to give you that chance."

Campfire 384742

>>384708
You miss again and she comes over to help you.
[1d10]

>>384712
I've been questing for 12 hours now, sorry.
"I would love a flute if Mistress wants me to have one."
The unicorn thanks you and lifts the puzzlebox from your hands with his magic.
[1d10]

"Under the aquifer. We build the workshops four or five levels down to leave enough room for traps ad fortifications up top. Down below that by at least seven levels we can build the bedrooms, dining, and food preparation areas. We will also have plenty of room for all sorts of materials down below."
One of the mechanics takes a piece of paper from the pile and hands it to you. It shows a bunch off grey under a bunch of blue.
"If an invasion gets too bad we can seal off the fortress and flood the upper levels. Nothing could get through that."

>>384720
I don't think the pause is near.
You blueballed yourself last night. You wake up with an annoying ache and a bad mood.

>>384715
Prophesy grabs you and pulls you away from Lorik.
"Calm down, Pom."

>>384722
"His methods have kept us all in one piece so far. If you don't want to work under him, fine. Work alongside him, or dig your own hospital area."

I chuckle.

But if I make a mistake, others suffer for it. I feel bad for it. Cannot ever make up for it. Wish I could, but I cannot."

"How soon could you begin plugging the aquifer and starting excavations?"

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384757

>>384751
I'll just growl slightly.
"Will need to have words with the doctor. Was supposed to fix her eye, not take it out. And if you were the only one who could do it, he should have woken you up. You're at least teaching that unicorn aid healing magic, aren't you? It's what I assigned him there for."

Barkspawn(DD mi/tr/inq) 384761

>>384745
He sets you down with a command to not attack your packmates when he is watching.

>>384746
It takes you hours, but you get them sorted into pile of pretty reds, pinks, oranges, greens, and blues. A pair of diamond dogs walking past with buckets of steamin water stop and look at you.
"You aren't mining, are you?"

>>384749
There is a chorus of their usual response. One of them asks if it is time to rest or if you want them to get back to crafting things.

There is a loud thwok as it hits the target.
"Good. Four more."

>>384755
"It was plugged a couple off years ago, Alpha. Plugging it is what gave us access to stone, gems, and metal."

>>384761
She smiles.
"Much better, Master. I am glad neither of us were hurt."

Boyar (Preacher) 384773

>>384768
"Oh, right. This aquifer. So, wait, then you'll just be digging further down, anyways, yes? Then go ahead. Make plans with the mining dogs and get started when you are ready."

Lorik [Doctor/Cleric/Stonecrafter] 384776

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 384794

>>384792
"A good slave can still do those things. Especially if they are taken proper care of. Why do you think I'm teaching my slave the craft? Because I'm bored?"

Lorik [Doctor/Cleric/Stonecrafter] 384796

>>384794
I chuckle
"Will never be as effective as a free mind. Don't worry, did not expect you to understand."

Campfire 384797

Kopaz [Landkeeper] 384807

My slave will remember that.
Take two of each colors of gems.

Then look at my slave.
"What buckets?"

Lorik [Doctor/Cleric/Stonecrafter] 384809

>>384797
"Good. Had half the mind to look for a different fortress where failure does not mean banishment from practice."

"Not insult. Just observation. Slavery deeply ingrained in diamond dog culture. Few dogs agree with my ideas."

Boyar (Preacher) 384810

Going back to bed now. Thanks for running, Campy.

Campfire 384816

Her jaw drops as you manage to put two in the dead center of the target after hardly taking any time to aim.
"Keep the bow. It's yours."

You don't just carve a strawberry. You carve one of the freshly unearthed red gems into a strawberry and set that inside of a larger green gem.

She shrugs.
"The water looked warm, so maybe they were filling a bath with water?"

Anyway, set it aside for now. Seems a shame to not sell it, but I gave my word as a craftsdog.

Campfire 384833

>>384822
I can keep going for at least half an hour, and I have stayed up for too late to make it to the morning service anyways.

You can either roll or give up and glue gems together to make a mug.

>>384838

Campfire 386654

It has been several days since word spread through the fortress that everything was to be relocated into the levels of stone under the aquifer. Many dogs are cheerful at the prospect of being surrounded by hard stone instead of flimsy clay and loam, but others are worried about having so much water above them, threatening to drown them all should a dog dig carelessly. The cool of spring is started to turn into the heat of summer. Birds and bugs buzz through the trees and small farm started above the surface while pups climb and play on the large mounds of stone unearthed by the working dogs.

Players, begin wherever.

Pom Rainian [M Runt Dog Gemcutter] 386655

>>386654
Is my slave out of the hospital yet?

Aidi [DD Knight] 386656

Aidi [DD KnightTrapFarmerBroker] 386659

Then I suppose I can teach her to polish gems. That's quiet work.
Though… hmm. I'll need something to distract the child once it's grown enough to be a nuisance before becoming helpful.
Being a unicorn, he might be able to pick up at least basic first aid from the hospital area.
I'll shake my head. Time to worry about such things later.
"Gem, I'm going to the shop to cut stones. I'll bring a few back to be polished so you don't wither of boredom. And I could set a few as a refresher for you."

Campfire 386662

With quite a bit of work, and plenty of help from the buffaloes, you manage to break apart the cages and refashion them in a way that they will spring out of the dirt and capture anything heavy enough to trigger them and small enough to fit inside.

>>386660
You aren't sure what is wrong, but from the looks of things it may have something to do with the way you have been using her at night. You load her in the cart and push her to the healers. I'll nod.
"It's decided, then. You shall be my setter, after enough training and the foal is of age to start learning skills of his own. He'll need a trinket as well, to signify I own him."

That isn't important, though. What is important is that there is a swarm of hornets the size of your large diamond dog fist swarming out of the ground around you and your buffalo slaves.

If we ever come under attack, the drawbridge goes up and leaves a winding walkway to the east as the only way across. The walkway will be narrow enough that most things will have to walk single file while being fired on by ballistas from the east and archers from the north or south, depending on what the other masons decide. If the intruders fall off the walkway they land in a pit, and their only way back up is a staircase that takes them back to the beginning of it."
