No.64309

I apologize for earlier

Last time, on Luna “Quest:”

You wrestled with Bear, learned some backstory, and danced with Luna. A good day, all things considered.

No.64316

Let's see what awkward situations we can avoid tonight! Onward!

No.64324

>>64309
A knock on your chamber once again wakens you to the early morning as light comes in through your balcony, tinting the room a soft orange.

"You know the drill," a gruff voice calls from beyond the door, prompting you to get up and dress for the day ahead.

You exit your room to see Bear and Golden, both standing stiff as statues until you shut your door behind you. They silently take their positions in front and behind you, and walk you towards the dining hall.

For once, they are completely silent. The only sound that echoes in the large halls are the sounds of your small party's footsteps.

No.64326

>>64324
Well, let's ask what the matter is. They're oddly silent today.

No.64334

>>64324
Why so quiet guys?

No.64338

>>64324
Let's not keep the princess waiting.

No.64339

Let's hope Celestia hasn't started asking questions. Hopefully they can tell us more.

No.64342

>>64324
Keep walking, silently.

No.64346

>>64324
>>64326
>>64334

You ask what's the matter as your small party arrives at the dining hall entrance.

The two guards take position by the doorway, and for a moment Golden looks at you, then at Bear.

You see Bear shake his head very gently, and Golden stiffens before resuming his watchful stance.

You ask again if something is wrong.

"Don't keep the Princess waiting," is the only response you get from Bear.

No.64347

So what's up Aspirant.
You losing steam?

No.64348

>>64346
Well, I guess this means Celestia knows about our little dance with Luna last night.
Let's be prepared for the worst.

No.64350

>>64347
I'll talk about any of that later.

No.64355

Chin up, gut in, balls out.

No.64356

No.64358

>>64355
Pretty much this

No.64361

>>64346
I have a baaad feeling about this…

No.64362

>>64346
You enter the dining hall, prepared for the worst.

Celestia sits at the table, a small mug of steaming coffee in front of her.

There's just as much food as the previous days, but it remains untouched.

You look about the room and fail to spot anyone else. Luna and any other guards are absent.

"Have a seat, my pupil."

The gentle push in her tone tells you this is no request.

No.64365

>>64362
Glup. Sit down, this gon b good.

No.64367

[s]oh fuck[/]

No.64372

Problem, Tia?

No.64378

>>64362
To our seat, then.
So, how are we going to spin this so that Celestia won't immediately imprison us for disobeying her orders?

No.64379

>>64362
Yes ma'am.

No.64384

>>64378
We didn't do anything wrong, we were learning to dance. Dance is very important in pony society, is it not?

I can't help but feel if we wind up explaining the situation a bit too well she might get suspicious.

No.64390

>>64378
Pretty sure it was more of a suggestion, not an order.
About not getting attached I mean.

No.64391

Just try not to respond too quickly as though we've been planning to respond to such a query.
Granted, I get the impression she'll probably know we're lying regardless, but we can at least try cushioning the blow.

No.64396

>>64362
You take your seat, the hairs on the back of your neck standing on edge.

Once you do, Celestia rises from hers, striding slowly to the door from which you entered.

She says something you can't quite make out, but you hear the two guards salute, loudly, before walking away.

Instead of taking her seat again, she slowly circles the table as she begins to speak.

"Late last night I was awoken by the sound of my beloved sister yelling," she begins, "And though I ask her about what could have upset her in the castle, she has refused to speak of it. She tells me it's nothing, but I cannot stand idly by. So I ask you: What happened last night?"

No.64401

>>64396
Tell her the truth.

No.64402

>>64396
She was teaching us to dance, and I missed a step. There was a small tumble and we ended up in an odd position. There was a slight misunderstanding, but that has been sorted out.

No.64405

>>64396
Be honest. You can't lie to her. But try to avoid some, umm, private details.
she is like Kellhus

No.64406

>>64396
Might as well tell the truth about what happened. Be persuasive about it.

No.64413

>>64406
I don't think that's a good idea trying to be persuasive towards her, she will definitely notice it. Better to just be honest.

No.64415

>>64413
We can be persuasive in the sense that it wasn't Luna's fault. We dropped the ball, so to speak, which led to the misunderstanding.

No.64418

>>64396
Oh, that.

Luna was teaching us to dance, and we fell. The guards came running, one of them overreacted, Luna chewed him out. Sorry to hear we woke you up.

No.64419

>>64415
I'm pretty sure Luna needs no such protection. We, in other had, under the scope.

No.64428

>>64406
Celestia's century or so of being all but monarch means our persuasion bonus is effectively negated when speaking to her at present. Diplomacy bonuses and such.

No.64430

>>64419
But by taking responsibility for the chain of events, we show we're capable of owning up to mistakes, which is bound to at least soften the inevitable blow that's going to come down.

No.64439

>>64396
Honesty is the best policy, you decide, as you begin to try and explain what happened without revealing too much.

"L-last night, Princess Luna was teaching me how ponies dance, and there was a misstep, and the guards came in, there was a misunderstanding, and-"

"You were…dancing, with my sister?"

Celestia stops her pacing just to your right, an eyebrow arched inquisitively and a pensive look on her otherwise graceful features. She resumes her pacing as she continues questioning you.

"While I am glad to hear you have overcome your personal space issues, I must ask if dancing was your idea. And what do you mean, a misunderstanding? What were you doing that the guards could misinterpret-"

No.64448

No.64457

>>64439
Tell her the dance was your the idea of your both (though, your suggestion) but you are still not sure how and in which way the guardians actually misinterpret the accident.

No.64458

>>64439

Should be able to explain this away due to being different body-shapes, surely.

Rather difficult when a quadruped and a biped attempt a dance, there was a slip and the guards entered at an inopportune time… or something

No.64459

>>64439
Luna suggested it, and it sounded relatively easy, so we decided to try it out.
I think she suggested it, right?

No.64460

>>64439
She tripped, and I tried to catch her. Unfortunately, we both lost our balance and wound up on the floor. Fortunately, no one was harmed.

The dancing was kind of a mutual idea wasn't it? at first, I mean

No.64462

Also, judging by that cut-off point, Luna has probably entered the room. This is bound to get exponentially more awkward very soon.

No.64463

>"Hmm, something useful that I can teach you…," she says while tapping her chin lightly, "Well, I like dancing, but that goes back to the personal space predicament. Cooking? My kitchen staff would be better suited."

No.64491

>>64486
She suggested dancing, but felt it would make us uncomfortable so went with cooking.

No.64492

>>64483
All in favor of keeping advancements with Luna to a minimum until Celestia is convinced we don't have a problem with proximity?

No.64493

>>64486
She had discarded the dancing idea. We picked it up and pushed for it.

No.64494

>>64486
She gave us multiple choices, We choose dancing.

No.64500

>>64439
A guard you don't recognize enters the room, saluting to Celestia, who walks to his side and receives a whispered message.

"I see. Thank you. You may go now."

The guard leaves, and Celestia takes her seat at the table again. The coffee mug suddenly glows gold and rises to her lips. She takes a sip before setting the mug back down and looking at you once again.

"My guard reports that one of your escort, Golden, I believe, was witness to your lesson last night. He reported feeling 'uneasy' to one of his superiors, but wouldn't expound upon it." She takes another sip of her coffee, eying you critically when she's done, "I believe it was he who made this misunderstanding you speak of, and he wishes to report it to myself. Perhaps I should bring him in here to share what he saw?"

No.64502

>>64493
But still suggested it.

>>64494
Dancing is also what she wanted to do.

We're in the clear.

No.64508

>>64500
That might be best. Then we can clear this misunderstanding up before it grows beyond troublesome.
This is probably going to end up with us saying "no we don't feel that way about Luna" and she'll overhear us and it'll set everything worse to square one.

No.64510

Tell her we suggested dancing because it helped us overcome proximity issues without putting us in uncomfortable situations.

Then tell her that for some niggling reason we can't explain, learning dancing while living with royalty felt like a good idea. That keeps the suggestion in line with our bad memory but makes it seem like we had a gut feeling that turned out to be correct, because royalty often have balls and galas and we'd probably be there.

No.64511

>>64500
Welp, there goes. Do we know Golden enough.

No.64513

>>64500
Sure. Why not?

No.64517

>>64510
Dammit, too slow. Okay, we could still say this but say we dropped her and she fell on top of us, Luna yelped, upon which Bear came in immediately to check what was going on and saw us.

No need to lie to her. We also don't need to tell her the whole truth.

No.64520

Just to clarify, this is a choice. You can totally just spill the beans now and answer all her questions without Golden being there to potentially confuse matters.

No.64523

>>64500
On a second thought I think it may be better to keep the matter private? Adding Golden to this could be a mistake.

No.64527

>>64520
But we'd need to clear it with him as well. Otherwise he's not going to get over his feeling of uneasiness.
I mean, we could just explain things to him later, maybe over a drink.
But wouldn't Celestia find it suspicious if we were to protest too much about bringing him in here?

No.64530

>>64500
He saw us and Luna in a pile in the middle of a dance hall. I have to admit I'm curious as to what about that would have him feeling uneasy.

No.64533

>>64520
>>64523
Yeah, I say keep it private. In this case there are "bigger field" for the maneuvers (and we can talk about stuff that we can't really mention in Goldent's presence).

No.64534

>>64527
He can always talk to others in private later. Or you can have him brought in. Really, it's up to you guys. I'm just clarifying if anyone was confused about if this was a choice or if I was railroading them.

No.64536

Let Bear say his piece while we are present, so we may clear up any misconceptions.

No.64542

>>64520
I say we explain what happened ourselves and try to keep him out of it (without explicitly stammering how he doesn't need to come in) and then discuss this with BEAR later, get his take on the situation. Hopefully Celestia will at some point talk to Luna. Lets also try and spend the day building up our friendship with Golden, just in case. i think we've already got Bear's respect.

No.64544

>>64520
Yeah, let's just be honest right now and save ourselves the headache later on.

No.64545

>>64536
This isn't Bear, though. It's his brother.

So, let's put it to a quick vote:
All in favor of adding Golden to the mix, say aye.
All opposed, say nay.

I say nay, so we can talk to him about it at the bar over a drink.

No.64547

>>64545
>I say nay, so we can talk to him about it at the bar over a drink.

No.64549

>>64547
Well, think about it. Where do guards go to relax?

No.64550

nay

No.64552

>>64544
Spilling the beans makes it sound like we're confessing to something. We have nothing that requires confessing.

Start off with "I think there's been more than one misunderstanding here," and then explain how we don't actually have a personal space problem in an attempt to deflect. Keep the others out of it for now, talk to BEAR first to get a general idea of how Golden is taking things, THEN we decide how to handle Golden. Then lets do some studying.

No.64556

>>64545
But what if he thinks we are leaving him out to "hide the truth"

No.64559

Shes giving us the option to bring him in or not to.

Dont bring him in. Also deflect by explaining the personal space thing.

Then LATER talk to Bear to get a general idea whats up with him, then we decide what to do in that respect.

No.64582

>>64500
"No, no that won't be necessary," you say, trying to keep the conversation between the two of you. You don't want Golden in here, possibly getting the Princess riled up over nothing.

So you start to explain.

"I don't really have a personal space problem, you just surprised me yesterday. That's why I panicked."

Celestia nods, then waits for you to continue.

"And, well, last night after the reading review with Princess Luna, we were coming up with things for her to instruct me in. I thought dancing sounded like fun, so I told her that would be alright if she was up for it." You look to Celestia, who just nods again and motions with a hoof for you to continue. Her expression is surprisingly neutral, you think to yourself.

"And in short, there was an accident. She tripped, I tried to catch her, we fell in a pile. That's when the guards walked in."

How much do you want it to sound like Golden set Luna off, or vice versa?

No.64588

>>64582

I certainly wouldn't. Don't see why we should get the guy in trouble over a simple misunderstanding.

Hell, even if we are after Luna, that whole incident was an accident and nothing more.

No.64589

>>64582
We need Luna points. More blame on Golden then. I think we can sort this out later. I hope.

No.64590

>>64582

We can make it sound as if both parties were equally at fault. And ourselves as well, for not trying to explain before it got out of hand.
Golden wouldn't give us time to explain, and Luna lost her temper. Bear, luckily, kept a level head.

No.64592

"I see," Celestia says, breaking the silence, "I can understand the guard's concern then. For multiple reasons. But, if it was a mistake as you say, then I don't see any real problems other than my guards being more frank with my sister than they had any right to be. This is none of your concern, however."

"Now, about you and my sister. I understand the need for your to understand our culture, and dancing is part of that, but I am concerned for the well being of the two of you. So I must ask: What do you think of Princess Luna?"

You opt for spear training today, and Golden goes over the basics with you before giving you a pony shaped mannequin to poke at while he observes and corrects. The spears are a little short for you, but you manage to get his approval.

"Hard tellin' when you do something real weird considering it's all weird with you," he comments afterward, making you smile.

You also ask if Celestia chewed him out for his behavior, and his face tints a bit when he responds.

"N-not really, actually. She was very understanding. I mean, she made it clear I'm not to act like that again, and we aren't supposed to be as informal with you as we are, but she didn't yell at me or anything. Very…kind."

Dinner comes and goes with Celestia giving you a knowing wink at the end, and you're soon in a lounge room with Luna going over your reading assignment for that day. Again she helps improve your understanding of certain tenses in writing, but she seems pleased with your progress as well.

But the real question is, what should the two of you do tonight?

She eyes you curiously, "Are you sure you can even use magic?"

Truth be told you don't think you can do it either, but it's at least worth learning about. Maybe some way to deflect it or avoid it besides ducking would be nice, if such a thing exists.

Luna nods at your request, and she retrieves a few books from the library to read from.

"Ah, yes, here we are: 'Basics of Magic.'"

She begins to read from the book, explaining how one gathers energy on the tip of their horn, the general sensation it gives, how to know if you're in control, etc…

You stretch your hands, popping your fingers, and flap them about to loosen them while Luna looks on, a puzzled look on her face. You raise your index finger into the air and focus on it, not exactly sure what you're supposed to feel or do, but trying anyway.

You strike a variety of poses as you and Luna laugh together, her mirth fueled by your laughter and vice versa.

She moves you higher so you can touch the ceiling of the high vaulted room, and you throw yourself backwards into a mid air backflip. It's not quite flying, but it's close enough.

"It has been some time since I've seen one so enamored with such basic magic," Luna says between fits of giggles, "But I grow weary, so let's bring you back down, shall we?"

You let out a groan as you start lowering towards the floor, though you thank her for lifting you in the first place.

And then gravity takes over and you fall the remaining five feet or so to the ground. You manage to keep your footing, more or less, though you stagger a bit as Luna rushes to your side.

In fact, she scoots a little closer to you again when your arm is resting gently across her, until she's gently pressed against your side.

Your heart hammers in your chest at her proximity, at the warmth that radiates off her dark body, but most of all, at the smile she has on her face whenever she looks at you.

Your hand brushes her mane and a gentle tingling sensation goes through your hand. You do it again, running your parted fingers through the end of her semi transparent mane, marveling at it, how it feels, how it looks, how it just is.

Luna laughs when she sees the look on your face, but doesn't say anything. But when you look at her, instead of her mane, you see the one thing that matters: She's happy.

Good night kiss on the way out. IT is best way to end an evening. Plus, it gives her something to dream about while she sleeps during the day.

You move your hand towards her ear as she leans into you with a sigh, but you both stop when a clock in the castle chimes the midnight hour.

Very slowly Luna stands on her bench, your arm gently falling away from her back, brushing against her wings on the way down.

She turns to face you, and you can't help but stare into her eyes that glitter in the moonlight. A gentle smile crosses her lips as she gently says, "Thank you. Tonight was most enjoyable. I…hope we can have more like it."

In the span of a blink she leans forward and gives you a quick peck on the cheek, her soft lips pressing gently against your skin and making your heart flutter.

Before you can return the favor she hops off the bench and trots to the door, calling your escort. Just after doing so she flares her wings and begins a gentle ascent into the air, saying she needs to begin her patrol for the night.

She takes off into the night sky as Bear and Golden stride onto the patio to take you to bed.

And maybe it was your imagination, but you think Luna's voice was wavering when she said "Goodnight."

You find it difficult to fall asleep once you're back in your room, so stirred up do you feel.

So you stand on your own little balcony and look out at the night sky some more, until you start feeling tired. As you turn away you think you see a figure flying silently across the moon's profile, but when you look again it's gone.

You final thoughts before slumber are of Luna, hoping her patrol is going well, and that there are many more nights like this in store.

You dream once again of stars and the moon, of dancing and of laughing. But most of all, you dream of a warm feeling. The feeling of holding someone close.

I'll try again for next Friday. If I end up not feeling up for it I'll just postpone.

>>65657
I'd love to do big, feely things like that every session. But at the same time, I feel like that'd lessen their impact. So yes, part of me wanted to keep doing loadsa feels, but I also want to space what I perceive as big feels out for a (hopefully) better experience.
