There are rumors about a powerful artifact lying dormant somewhere in the land. Recently a gifted seer has had a break through. The seer has determined that a long abandoned castle is connected to the artifact.
You are just about to leave the town nearest the castle. Its early in the morning, and while your party isn't the only one who knows about the artifact its certainly the earliest arrival so far.

Character: Ulinzi is a zebra knight-errant and priest of the sun, traveling the world to rid it of evil and protect the good. He's an uncomplicated zebra, which is good, because complication gets in the way of judgment. While he is devoted to the sun, like most zebras he pays respect to his ancestors' spirits.

The town is a small quiet place, they never thought much of the castle, and don't believe anything is actually there. In any case they pointed you in the direction of an old path. The path its self it covered with large weeds and vines, and looks like only wild animals have used it recently. You party stand in front of this path.

>>130807 You can't see anything unusual. The area is full of rocky hills and grass covered you seem to feel right at home. >>130810 >>130808 The path is winding and it leads up and down several times. You bump your hooves a few times on rocks but nothing serious.
>>130817 The Town's welcome sign is faded, "Welcome to Stone Hop" it says, there are several shops, an Inn, and residential areas. There are some ponies milling about.
>>130824 I thought for a moment you were going to split up or something >>130828 You fly above the group and you can see the lay of land much clearer. You seem a hooded figure on the road behind the party, they seem to be following just far enough behind you that you would have missed them if you were on the ground. There is also a group of mountain lions up the path, they seem to be going home with the spoils from a hunt.
>>130836 Your shout reaches the ears of your stalker scaring whoever it is, they shout back in a voice like a bark "I do not have to explain myself to you, you are the one trespassing." The stalker doesn't come any closer though.

He laughs and lets his hood slide off. He has white fur and black stripes and a braided mane. He smiles at you with bright blue eyes. "The castle has been abandoned for years, its probably falling apart now. However.. it is said a great team of magic users once resided there."

>>130875 He narrows his eyes at you. "I'm not here to be your personal tour guide." >>130876 "I do not care for such matters, you have no authority over me. Just move along. " He seems a little angry at you now.
>>130881 "Well, I don't want you here any longer you have to be, its proven to be quite the hassle following you already.." He walks past you and cuts down some tall weeds to reveal a faster path. "This should get you there before the lions come back." >>130884 He bursts out laughing at your outrageous claim. "Please, be serious about this. My family would only be upset at me for not having evaded your detection. "
>>130886 "Thank you… as much as I would like to hear about these magic users, I'd rather get a move on. Ponies who no longer live there are of no concern to me" Hurry down the freshly cut path
>>130894 His motive seems to be selfish, you can tell he is hiding something, but its not about this path. >>130893 he watches you leave in silence. The path is indeed much faster and you can see the castle up a head.
>>130900 >>130899 "I think guys, that we need to be extra careful from now on. I mean that zebra is bad news." I told them as I go along the path with the rest.
The path comes to an end without a hitch. You are now in front of the castle. It quite tall and wide. The stone is crumbling in a few parts, and vines seem to be covering the walls. From here you can see that this is the highest hill around, its a wonderful vantage point, what could have caused it to be abandoned? The air feels a little different when you get closer to the castle.
>>130915 The outside of the castle is made of stone, there are vines growing up through it and in some places all you can see are vines. Oddly there are some untouched statues of guard ponies. The have identical gear; a mighty long sword in one hoof, and a shield bearing the old symbol of magic, and traditional bronze armor. There are 4 in total around the entrance.
>>130920 The statues are all unicorns, and each have a phrase at their base. "To learn is to live." "Theory with out practice is just a dream." "Where one treads one plants the seeds of their life." "Life is short, but knowledge is forever." They look as if they could have been made yesterday.
In addition to that you feel as if they are watching you. a voice says in your head "do you seek the wisdom of old?" >>130921 You also read the phrases, and notice that they are all unicorns, and look brand new.

>>130945 The door opens with some effort, you can feel some lingering magic, and there are two more statues this time of unicorn mages, one with a frost staff and one with a fire staff. >>130949 >>130950 You all see the same statues and as soon as you walk in you hear something crash behind you. A mean looking circle of spikes almost hit you.
>>130952 The statue lights up when you get close. It definitely has the residue of a magic, perhaps some very clever mage enchanted. the words on this one are in an unreadable language. >>130953 Past the mage statues there are stairs leading up, and two doors. You see a small switch on the floor near the statues that would have triggered some kind of trap. >>130954 The spike circle is like a chandelier but instead of candles it has spikes, lots of spikes. You are able to collect some of the chains for later use.
>>130965 not sure what you rolled for, but see you later >>130965 The fire mage's staff glows and lights up the room. It also has an unreadable inscription. >>130962 There aren't any more traps, but the statues are both glowing.
The statues now both active their staffs glowing and their expression changed. you can all hear a voice "DO YOU WISH TO FACE THE CHALLENGE OF ELEMENTS?"
>>130970 "VERY WELL, YOUR CHALLENGE IS RECOGNIZED!" A visible glowing of magic swirls around the room and each person in the party. Two fire elementals and an ice elemental form before the party. They look at you and laugh "We have never been called before such brutes." the throw a ball of fire or ice respectively at you. Roll to dodge.
>>130975 Its hits you, you feel the ice chill your armor, but but the fire ball hits your shield. >>130978 You cloak catch on fire and you have to take it off, you manage to put it out and save most the cloak. You feel a little numb from the cold -1 next roll. >>130981 Your arrow lands in a fire elemental's flame body. it burst into flames before doing any damage.
>>130984 You missed and blocked hop scotch's attack with your armor. >>130986 The arrow was flying true despite your cold hooves, but bounces off parfait's armor. >>130988 Despite the chill in your bones your play a heart warming song.
>>130992 You dodge the fire and ice blasts that were coming your way, and you hit the center of one of the fire elementals with a fierce arrow. It falls apart into smoke, chanting "You have bested but one.. you are not worthy yet." >>130993 The ice elemental catches you with a full blast of cold, you get a frost burn under your armor. one wound. >>130994 You song is so lovely that the elementals forget they were even supposed to attack you for a moment. Everyone has a +2 now.
>>130996 the elements moves out of the way and tries to attack you again, but >>130997 You cover all the damage with your shield, not a single bit of their magic gets past you. You even manage to reflect one of the fire balls into the ice elemental that was picking on you. >>130998 you continues to impress, the party is now full of life, and singing along to your tune. (+3 now)
>>131001 The Fire elemental takes an arrow in a weak point, and struggles to remove it. >>131002 You slam into it while its struggling and its flames seem to be struggling to stay up. >>131004 doesn't the bonus count for you too?
>>131009 The ice elemental dodges and take the opportunity to counter attack your leather armor catches it this time, but its quite chilly. >>131010 The fire elemental collapses under your weight, it turns into smoke and leaves nothing behind. >>131017 The ice elemental counter attacks and knocks you down, your hoof stuck to the ground with ice.
>>131023 It falls apart easily. leaving you free to move about. >>131025 The ice elemental takes a pretty good hit that time, and a chunk of it falls off. >>131027 You slam into the elemental and the remaining bit of it are shattered. The ice melts away to nothing but a pool of water, which then evaporates abnormally fast.
"YOU HAVE PASSED THE CHALLENGE." the two statues light up again and a small chest appears between them.
>>131029 The chest opens, and a light comes out of it. There are the following items: A scroll of paper, a large crystal key, and a small crystal ball.
>>131031 You see a shadow, you think, it might have been a trick of the light, or something in the room making a shadow because of the crazy magic lights in here.
>>131034 The paper reads "Congratulations on your victory, these items will make your trip faster and more exciting. The orb can be used many ways. Though each way by each person only once. If you know the words to speak to it you can go to the lock the key is for, but cautious what you do once there. "
