Christmas is coming, the thread had gotten fat.
Please put a penny in the Pink pone's hat.

It's bretty gud. It has an excellent cut with a lot of the behind the scenes interviews, and there are a lot of catchy lines.

To be fair, popular ratings are what matters, not individual critics. The movie's been received well by the public, so it's probably worth seeing. You can't trust a individual alone to not have an agenda.

 No.794675

>>794673
I actually do not watch trailers either if I can help it. Of course that's not going to happen with big hype trailers like SW, but for example I went to see Spotlight without knowing anything about it.
You should try forming your own opinion about a movie, it is really refreshing.

 No.794676

>>794674
This is literally the exact opposite of how you're supposed to use reviews. Don't go with "well most critics liked it so it's good". You find a critic whose taste resonates with and matches your own with a high degree of accuracy on a regular basis, and then if they like something you will like it, and visa versa.

I respected Roger Ebert immensely but totally disagreed with his tastes in film, so he wasn't a useful critic for me.

 No.794677

>>794675
I have bretty strong opinions formed about this bait conversation.

 No.794678

>>794676
I don't trust individual reviewers anymore. Not for video games or movies. There's always a chance that their opinions have been bought.

It's much safer to rely on the masses to voice their opinion, though even that has its risks. Of course since everyone who watched it on the Sub so far has been positive about it, it's a bit of a safer bet.

I still don't think the blind monk in Rogue One should have been so effective, but the finale has me somewhat convinced he might have been an untrained Force Adept which added impact to his strikes.

 No.794816

Which is part of why TFA felt so hollow. Too much of it is spent building up stuff that hasn't happened yet, and most of the movie feels like a retread of ANH but with worse characters.
Besides, Vader and Tarkin are going to dominate any scene they appear in. That's their prerogative, and they've been doing it for years.

They perform quite effectively against the Rebels at the end, though admittedly this apparently is because they're the only Imperials who know the value of things like cover and grenades. Outside of getting clowned in the early parts of the film, the generic stormies don't do too bad either.

Anyway, Andy might want help building her tower. We recently discovered a redwood grew to world tree proportions (to put it mildly), and she wants to cave it out and make a home in it. Well you asked for it, so I aesthetically appreciate small cute things but just because it's small doesn't necessarily make it attractive. Use of perspective is a good way to convey size, but that's extremely difficult. Another good way to emphasize size is to include something in the picture to give the viewer a scale of reference - a jar, a cage, a q-tip, a ruler, a feather, a [normal sized body part], etc. And naturally any naturally sexual situation is still attractive - e.g.: stimulation of erogenous zones.

But that picture is still cute. Petalia seems like a nice witch.

No Sylt, you're definitely part of the problem.

We have this same conversation EVERY FUCKING TIME that you quest with me. Someone's worried that you're minmax'ing too much. You tell me it's all okay and they're overreacting. And 10 sessions later I do have to put a limit somewhere because it's getting out of hand.
And while I feel it's not getting out of hand right now, the precedent is there. I mean, what am I supposed to do? I wish you'd just make a regular character for once.

 No.795238

>>795237
I made a regular character! What the fuck mate, I literally just picked all Chance feats I could without even looking, I used only book options, and my casting level, at level SIX is something like 1 or 2 tops.
The only thing I can do is spam AD on skill checks and never run out of spell points, but I'm a pushover in any kind of combat scenario.
You telling me I broke a system as mathematically sound as FC without even trying? The truth is, you just don't have combat, so my one weakness (which usually should be around 50% of a normal ttrpg session) doesn't show.
I don't even have utility spells or anything so all I can do, again, is ace skill checks. Might as well have picked a Keeper.

In conclusion my character can do ONE thing well, like any character should, and since I didn't just make one of the 2 stock choices for character builds I'm OP as opposed to someone who didn't care to build his character properly.

But if this is the sentiment here I can quit, sure.

 No.795239

>>795234
More of a reason to care I guess. It seemed like you were maybe playing up Bright as a possible love interest which could be a reason if he was more forward, or something. You know Fairweather is very selfish but not in the traditional ways like wealth or power, she's almost like House (the doctor) in that she doesn't like unsolved mysteries, hence the question she asked the witch lady in the "mushroom dream". A promise of an answer about the nature of reality (or more down-to-earth, insight into the nature of the breezie equivalent of humanity) would be more of a draw than "you can save lives" or "you will win the respect of your peers".

tl;dnr version: Increase the stakes in saving an individual like Bright OR bait Fairweather's pet cause for true insight

I just said I was worried about it, I will still give it a chance. We have only been in the same room for like 5 minutes so far as yet anyway.

 No.795240

>>795238
That's kind of the definition of minmaxing, right? Completely useless in one area (min) and extremely strong in one area (max). Nobody in Breezie is using a stock character.

Usually you have a lot of characters who are okay in combat and have one good niche, e.g.:
Skill checks are a good way to make every player feel like they're useful.

>Keeper: Don't worry guys, I'll craft us better potions with my Craft.

>Courtier: And I'll keep us well equipped with my excellent Haggle, maybe gather some information with my Diplomacy.
>Burglar: I can Sneak past the guards and steal the keys with my Prestidigitation.
>Barbarian: And I can climb up the cliff to lower the rope.
>Captain: When the time comes, my Tactics will win the day, but in the meanwhile I can still lead the Search better than anyone.

But instead you've forgone combat entirely in favor of being better than any of those characters even in their niche skill. They may as well not show up to the session if there isn't going to be a fight.

Whatever, you get my point. If it's a combat session (because we all know combat CAN take an entire session, maybe more) you may as well not show up, and if it's a non-combat session, why do I even need to be there? I have STELLAR medicine, tactics, and search checks (I even took Enlightened medicine in my origin) and you probably can roll +15 higher on those checks. I have no motivation to even be there for the session at all since you're doing all the meaningful interactions.

Here's the thing, there really should be some roles for everyone. Because otherwise Petilia will be all over the place. So what if we could work out roles for the team? Like Petilia could be more dealing with alchemy, perception, knowledge, persuasion,…
And Fairweather survival skills, intimidate, search…
And Pattern, crafting, Tinker knowledge, Stealth, etc..
And we just agree that you guys focus on your own sphere. This way we can solve this with a gentleman's agreement, and everyone gets a place in the spotlight!

I dunno, there were a lot of situations that Sion put us in where Pattern was better, like for instance with the Breezie vault, you had two better skill checks, one of them being Spellcasting (which is untrained for Fairweather). Let's try to work out how to do this.
So regardless of how you all get together, which I quite frankly am completely baffled by now, I guess maybe pattern and petilia should have met up first, how do you see the quest?

Like I was thinking we could move outside, have the breezies go outside the Hollow to go on adventures, see cool things, with Fairweather being the clear-headed ranger breezie, Petilia the esoteric witch, and Pattern the shy tinker. That would be fun right?

Then what I said applies perfectly, you admitted you didn't invest into being good at skill rolls, sylt did, so that only makes sense that his character is going to be good at them. You'll have to deal with being worse or restat your character.

 No.795268

>>795263
Maybe so, in any case, Fairweather already

>>795267
I didn't admit to that, I have 10 skills that are at +10 or higher, two skills at +16. That's a great stat block.

The problem arises that even in a situation where I put ALL of my skills toward being good like Medicine (I have +16 because I took the special Enlightened Medicine that lets you extend your maximum skill ranks even higher), Petilia would still be better, even in a niche where my character is specifically designed to be really good at that because his skill dice give a universal boost to all skills.

FantasyCraft has 21 skill checks, 21 ways for your character to demonstrate their usefulness to the party. In a group with three people, we should expect to be the best choice for about 7 of those, but I would settle for being the best at just two. But even with a character specifically designed to be good at medicine, a Doctor, the chance character is better because dice add to everything. The lucky witch is better at medicine than the doctor.

So when I'm talking about roles, I'm talking about it like
You for example have Survival, and you could probably easily outroll Wf, who's styled for it, with your AD's. SO my proposal would be to let everyone have their role a bit. Like when you guys are going through the forest and you need to track down some evil monster, let Wf do it and when there's need for magic spells or socialising, it's your turn to shine. And you don't even need to retool your character for that, let's say at a certain point you end up alone and have to do Survival, you can do that anyway.

My point is to create a story where everyone feels like they can contribute meaningfully, not to limit any characters.

I let Soil have his moments in the Sun, many of them. In and outside of combat. That's what I do. Andy has a sub-optimal (as some would call it) character, but I let her have some awesome moments as well!

He just wanted to make sure Fairweather could do Ranger things, without Petilia AD'ing the shit out of for example Survival.
We could do the same with for example MEdicine. As a Ranger, Fairweather would be more familiar with cleaning and healing wounds, while Petilia could be better at healing sicknesses and poisons with her potions. And this wouldn't need to be a hard barrier, just like I'm talking about roles.

It's up to you. I don't really know what to do with it at this point because half the cast is waiting on doing the Highlands stuff and I don't know if I'll ever be able to match up with Groves reliably.

I dunno. Horizons never had the same spark that Pirates did for a lot of the cast. Sylt used to seem to enjoy it but he got discouraged when this big final case came up. I can't read Andy at all, seems like she's not having fun at all so I don't even ask her to play anymore. Groves always chooses to vidya over quest so I know he's mostly indifferent.

Weirdly Nopoy came in as a cameo but he's in the camp with you, Fidget, and Maali as people who are actually eager to play. Maybe if Lilly gets captured or something I can run with just you and Nopo and we can bust through content faster.

Playing Selena is weird right now since I'm kinda waiting to go to Highlands more than actually doing my house.
I'm not complaining about not being the "main character" but it's like Selena drove the quest in the beginning and then out of nowhere it went to Lilly being the main. And there's like these big things with Witherloo that all feel like filler.

They are all kind of filler. But you're right, Selena was definite the driving character before (because the objective of the group was 'save her kids') and now that the objective is basically 'help lilly' everyone is waiting on Lilly. And there's really nothing to be done about that since you are firmly committed to staying on track and helping Lilly.

Maybe we'll get started with Highlands next session whether Groves is on or not

For Selena, stopping here is retirement. Also in the worst way, by betraying the daughter of her dear friend.

No, I don't think Blightfall would work well on MP (even though they try to suggest it would) because taint has some really nasty effects that get worse over time. For instance, trees melt and become taint swarm hives if you don't clean them up.

So imagine that one day Fidget wants to get online and all he does all day is farm next to a bunch of trees, then we log on later and are welcomed by a fuckton of taint swarm nests. Things can literally get worse if you don't play proactively.

So I don't want to get in that kind of situation with MP.

Even if I thought Blightfall would be good for MP (and I still don't because of the aforementioned reason, I literally don't think we have a dedicated enough group to play together, it's the equivalent of queuing for competitive games), I would still want to pick a modpack that other people think is fun and you said you wouldn't have fun with blight-covered-world. The reason being that I got the server for the sub, if I want to play something that only I like, I can do that solo on single player (and I am doing that).

I should say though that I never understood the appeal of Skyblock, really, I just don't. The constant, constant threat of falling off and losing everything makes it completely unfun for me.

Man fuck off about that.
I was mad about the fact that there was a way to die in lava and inescapable unless you could teleport or instantly remove the cobble, in the middle of the base exactly where the most logical place to walk to the mana is.
Its like if I put a lava trap between my tower and my ritual circle, and didn't tell you and had you doing all kinds of crazy witchery spells which needed you to go back and forth between the two places to recharge your infusion power. and you happen to die in the lava pit.

It was cobbled over to be unreachable unless in wolf form, you could've looked where you were going or flown with your broomstick. Marked on all sides with a very distinct stone type so that no one would try to walk through the middle of it. It would've been more escapable if I had just left lava in the middle of the base with no cobble guards around it, but I suspect you wouldn't have liked that either.

But anyway, if you had killed me with a lava trap by accident because I wasn't paying attention (example: if your ender weed trap teleported me into lava) and you respawned all my items and/or I got my grave back, I wouldn't care, because I don't hold a grudge and I would know you weren't trying to maliciously fuck with me.

Er well, think of it like this, in design terms, each mod generally assumes it will be the only one on the world, so therefore demanding a few dozen diamond, emeralds and nether stars, looks reasonable enough, since you'd have them as extra from your vanilla progression.
After designing everything that way, they kinda add in compatibility and alternative recipes for when other mods are present. Never fully grasping that doing all the content would require another few dozen diamonds emerald and now special rare mod minerals.. and how taxing that is to collect manually.. and then what should they do? Lower their resource cost for their machines? What if someone DID just install that mod and not that other? and why should YOUR mod be the cheap one? Is it somehow weaker or worse to deserve that?
Really gets complicated quick when you try to even think about how that should be balanced, much less why it should be done or when. And to expect mod authors who can't even be bothered to make their trees sub for wood in other recipes.. well..
I'll leave you with that thought. Latez

There was an article about what makes a face punchable, they consulted with scientists who specialize in emotion and others who specialize in facial structure. The consensus seems to be that no face is innately punchable (you project that feeling on the face), but there ARE things that help. Baby-facedness, for example - large eyes, full cheeks, etc.
