541019

Abilio gathers you in his chambers.

"We have received permission to travel to Awa to request a Letter of Marque from the local daimyo in their fight against their neighboring clan. Until we have the letter, we're not allowed to move the fleet into those waters. For that reason, the plan is to land a small force on the mainland from here, and have them travel by land to Awa. Once there, they will acquire our letter and signal the fleet, which I will be leading around the horn of Neighpon. Because this is a diplomatic mission, I'm sending Light Heart and Flowing Tree, but just in case you run into hostilities on the way, I'd like Emrille and Chip to go along. Any other crew you'd like to accompany you?"

541020

>>541019
Exchange a look with Light Heart and Chip, then look at the Commodore, shaking my head.

541021

>>541019
"I shall, of course, bring along my own retinue as well. Miss Puzzle is a local too after all."

541022

>>541021
"Speaking of.
Have there been arrangements made to allow you to carry weapons into Neighpon?"

541023

>>541019
"Been a while since we took a walk."
Smirk.
"I'll need Tela there, to keep the baddies off of me while I shoot 'em up."

541024

>>541021
"That's fine. Also… I have looked into finding a new scout as the old one didn't work out. Hircus will be joining you for this mission, so make use of him."

>>541023
"That's fine."

>>541022
"Yes, I've taken care of that."

541025

>>541019
I shake my head.
"I have little to no retinue, perhaps the master thief Wanderer is a good idea to have with us. If not perhaps Selena, Flowing tree or Tela are good candidates.

541026

>>541024
"I see. What of miss Springleaf? I believe she will find the local flora quite interesting."

541027

>>541024
Nod.
"Then, most is taken care of.
I would advise about asking Lady Selena, the Sirocco's alchemist, if she feels up to the task aswell.
During the last six months I've seen firsthoof her capabilities."

541028

>>541025
"Given that he was found untrustworthy, I've had him replaced. I hired a new thief, named Hircus."

>>541026
>>541027
"Hm? I had thought she might not like direct conflict. She's an alchemist, right? Well, if she would like to go along, I'm not against it."

541029

>>541024
I suppose I'm watching all of this from the shadows, right?

541030

>>541028
Nod.
"This is why it's just a suggestion and not a full on sponsorship."

541031

>>541029
Why from the shadows? You were invited to the meeting.

541032

>>541028
"I prefer to avoid direct conflict myself. But we all know that it sometimes cannot be avoided, I am certain miss Springleaf understands this."

541033

>>541028
"I see, well that is good. I do found that goat on the bad side."

"As for Ms. Springleaf coming with us, that is good news."

541034

>>541032
"I can handle some conflict, don't worry."

541035

>>541031
I suppose I'm not technically hiding/stealthed, just hanging back where ponies aren't likely to notice me unless they're looking.

541036

>>541034
"As can I."

541037

>>541033
>>541034
>>541035
>>541036
"Well, if that's all, you're free to take the ferry from town onto the mainland. The neighboring province does have a road, but I wouldn't expect to have one for the entire trip. Keep on guard. The journey should take a few days."

541038

>>541037
I raise a hand.
"Calling it that I am leading this expedition! BOOM!"

541039

>>541038
Snort, but say nothing.

>>541037
"We'll get the job done, don't worry."

541040

>>541037
"Understood, commodore. We will make haste. Once we have the letter, do we simply return to Nagobana?"

541041

>>541038
Raise a brow at that. Especially the last word.
But go back to the Commodore.
>>541037
"How are we supposed to signal the successful retrieval of the letter?"

541042

>>541040
"No, take this flaregun. When you have the letter, fire this to the north. We'll move in."

541043

541044

>>541042
Accept it.
"Understood."

541045

>>541037
"How discreet does this need to be?"

541046

>>541042
Signalmind.
"Very well.
We will be waiting for you in Awa, then."

541047

>>541045
"Not at all. I'm sending you as a scout, but if you need to engage in direct combat that is fine."

541048

>>541046
>>541044
"Good luck. Dismissed."

541049

>>541045
"Bear in mind, by drawing attention you will most likely be assaulted.
But most inhabitants of neighpon are not allowed to carry swords, so aside from the occasional ronin, we should be fine."
>>541048
Bow in salute and leave.

541050

>>541048
Leave.

No time to lose. HP Lovepone and Wark can come along.

541051

>>541042
"Not like I can make flares or anything…"

541052

>>541046
With that I bow and go with our way.

541053

>>541051
"But yours are a product of magic, Lady Emrille.
What were to happen if your catalyst was destroyed, or you were killed?
Neighpon is famous for its Hex Breakers."

541054

>>541053
"Anypony touches my guns, I'll strangle them with my fucking hooves."

541055

>>541050
HP is on deck looking at shore. You find Rosemary and Wark looking after the little ones.

541056

>>541054
"You seem to be ignoring the point."
>>541055
Shore, then?

541057

>>541056
"Point is, not going to happen."

541058

>>541057
"Glad to see you are confident."

541059

>>541055
Goodbye kissu Rosemary.

Then it's time to go to shore and get to this ferry.

541060

>>541059
>>541056
The two of you spit up from the other characters and find the ferry on the northwestern shore.

541061

>>541060
>>541059
I follow as well, dummy.
So is Tela, I assume.

541062

>>541060
Time to wait.
>>541059
"Lady Heart.
Glad to see we will be having some backup, during our travels."

541063

>>541060
>>541060
Follow along.

541064

>>541047
"Very well then."
>>541060
Nothing else that needs doing, so I'll head to the ferry.

541065

>>541060
Hey I collected my minions!

>>541062
"It is good to have friends like them to count on."

541066

>>541065
"I don't think we have been introduced.
Aside from miss Puzzle, of course."
Nod cortesedly at her.

541067

>>541064
>>541063
>>541062
>>541061
There is a small fleet of little ferries here designed for no more than five or six ponies. They are moving back and forth between the mainland and the island that Nagobana sits upon – nearly the only way foreigners get into the country.

541068

>>541066
She gives you a smile.

>>541065
I meant PCs

541069

>>541066
"Master Wark and I go back quite some time."

>>541067
So we'll need more than one ferry!

541070

>>541067
I will board one with LH and her team.
>>541069
Look at Wark.
"You must have quite the stories to tell."

541071

>>541067
>>541069
I look at Tree and LH
"So we need more than one boat, who's going to boat 1 and the others going to boat 2?"

541072

>>541071
Shrug.
"It's not a matter of grave importance."

541073

>>541071
"That hardly matters. Let us simply make haste."

541074

>>541071
>>541073
I vote Selena, Emrille and Tela to board in the boat that will ride with me.

541075

>>541074
The pretty mare and dog boat

541076

>>541073
"I agree. We should get moving."
>>541074
Then I suppose I'm in the ferry with Light Heart.

541077

>>541075
"Kind of like that. It is to divide the healers and the best shots among both boat just in case." I nod.

541078

>>541070
"One er another I suppose."

>>541075
>>541074
>>541073
>>541072
>>541071
>>541070
You split into two boats, slowly being rowed across the strait by one pony per boat. The calm waters are almost unfitting for the purposes that you are destined to.

541079

>>541076
I look.
"Hmmmm, well alright then its decided.

>>541078
So how are these 'boats'? Do they live up to my standards of boat making or are they just floating wrecks?

541080

>>541077
"We didn't even land yet!"

>>541078
Calm is boring!

541081

>>541078
The calm before the storm, no doubt.

The Neighponese will likely not be friendly to outsiders.

541082

>>541078
Nod in acknowledgement to Wark.
It's clear he doesn't want to talk.
Calm waters fit perfectly for a diplomatic mission!

"Remember Lady Heart.
Most Neighponese ponies are incredibly racist towards foreigners."

541083

>>541078
Perfect, gives some time to focus for the task ahead.

541084

>>541082
I scratch my head.
"If they are racist against ponies wtihout slanted eyes then I wonder how they will react with my presence, or with billy goat mcthief here."

541085

>>541082
"I am aware. But I have grown accustomed to live among racists."

541086

>>541079
They're simple ferries. Not even as large as rowboats.

>>541080
>>541081
>>541082
>>541083
You arrive and disembark onto the land. A great forest of enormous, emerald-leaf trees stretches out before you. There is a small town here, but it is purely residential. There are no shops or businesses.

541087

>>541086
"Let's get a move on, right? No sense fucking around here."

541088

>>541085
"I see."
Smile.
>>541086
Do we have supplies for the travel, at least, or should I go around confiscating them?
Ahahah, like I can.

541089

>>541086
No sources of income means no worthwhile targets.
"Let's get moving."

541090

>>541084
"Hard to tell.
Mostly, I believe, won't even want to talk with you."

541091

>>541086
Then it is not worth our time.

"According to the map… we must go North-west-west. Awa is located on the other side of the narrow island."

541092

>>541088
>>541086
>>541090
"Pffff… well that makes picking up cute neighponese harder." I grit my teeth.
"But dont worry I am a determined dog, they wont expect the kind of charm I bring into these foreign lands."
I look at tree and nod.
"Lead the way Mr. Tree, you know the road better."

541093

>>541091
I look at the map.
"Lets consult Mr. Tree and Ms.Puzzle, they know these lands better.

541094

>>541093
>>541092
>>541091
"Chop chop, Chip. You called it, you can be at the head of the group. You're a big guy anyway."
Smirk.

541095

>>541093
Shake my head.
"I told you my friend, I haven't been here in twenty years."
>>541091
Nod.
"We should move.
The city might react violently to our presence."

541096

>>541087
>>541091
>>541089
>>541088
>>541092
You should select a mission leader to make rolls for your party

541097

>>541094
>>541096
"Hah! Alright let me look at that map!"
"Lets go that way!'
'1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

541098

>>541096
Chip is the oldest officer, but Light Heart is the diplomacy expert, I've learnt as much.
I will vote LH.

541099

>>541096
I thought Chip had already called that role.
I don't know enough about these ponies, so I'll abstain.

541100

>>541096
Well Chip volunteered first.

But I wouldn't mind being the leader either. Up to what the party wants.

541101

>>541096
Well, Chip can take the lead in the jungle and shit.

541102

>>541097
Sounds like you're the leader. Roll 1d16

541103

>>541102
'1d6'

Roll #1 4 = 4

541105

541106

>>541105
'1d16'

Roll #1 12 = 12

541108

>>541106
You travel through the forest for a considerable time until you come to… blue.

You have no explanation for it, but starting five feet in front of you, everything is blue. Road. Sky. Trees. Grass. Bushes. All shades of blue. This is not a tapered transition: it is immediate. One inch the road is fine, the next it is blue.

541109

>>541108
"The fuck…you're seeing this too, right?"

541110

>>541108
Look at Puzzle and Tree.
"Another cultural thing?"

541113

>>541110
She blinks. "Cool! But… I've never seen anything like this!"

541114

>>541108
"Well now, this is certainly interesting." I assume "no explanation for it" means no checks to see if we've seen something like it before?

541115

>>541108
Do I have any idea what that is?
'1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

541117

>>541113
"Strange."
Run my hoof over it.
Any strange texture? Does the blue give off?
"What could this be…"

Roll #1 8 = 8

541118

>>541114
>>541115
You haven't. Totally unique phenomenon unless you do a lot of blue painting in your spare time.

541119

>>541117
There is nothing special about it in touch or feeling, though once you move your hoof past the 'threshold', it becomes blue. You retract it out and it is normal again.

>>541115
You do feel a distinct feeling of magic, though.

541120

>>541117
"Please, stand back."
>>541118
Very well.
Let's see then.
Move a hoof to my katana.
Lift it ever so slightly from the sheat, and aim the reflection of the sun towards the nearest blue-painted tree.
Spellbreak.
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

541121

>>541120
No change.

541122

>>541121
"Mh."
Can I retry?
"It's magic, for sure, but this might not be its source. Can't do much from here."

541123

>>541119
"Interesting… so it affects everything within a certain area, and only as long as it stays in that area. However, I'm not sure what the practical applications are."

541124

>>541108
"Uh… What? Some kind of illusion?"

541125

>>541122
If you wait.

541126

>>541119
"Oh my… How strange."
Is it possible to go around? Or does it stretch as far as the eye can see?

Roll #1 3 = 3

541127

>>541126
"As far as the eye can see" is limited at this point, but based on the arc you assume it is an extraordinarily large hemispherical area.

541128

>>541119
Snicker and play with putting my hoof in and pulling it back.
"This is freaky as fuck."

541130

>>541125
I will rest a moment, take a few deep breaths.
I know where I want to aim my spellbreak.
Towards the middle of this sphere of blue.

"Sperrubureaku!"

'1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

541131

>>541127
Right, because we're in some sort of jungle.

Well… we don't have much choice but to risk it.
"It does not appear to be malicious."

541135

>>541127
"Nothing for it then. Here goes." I'll go all the way through it.

541136

>>541131
"A curse's influence might not always be immediatly visible, Lady Heart.
But there does not happear to be a choice."

541137

>>541130
The blue flickers and recedes…

>>541131
>>541135
It's gone now… the path stretches on ahead deeper into the emerald forest.

541139

>>541135
Watch this carefully.

>>541136
>>541137
"Hm. Good. Let us advance."

541141

>>541137
Pout.
Aww.
Well, let's get on with it.

541142

>>541137
"Oh. Well, alright then." Move onward!

541143

>>541137
"Uh."
Sheathe the katana again.
>>541139
"It's not assured that whoever placed that course won't do it again.
And we might have just revealed our presence.
Caution is in order."
Follow her.

541148

>>541143
>>541142
>>541141
>>541139
You proceed down the road another two hundred feet before, without warning, a wave of blue shoots out from deeper into the woods. Your advanced position lets you identity that it actually originates from somewhere slightly to the left of the road.

As the blue passes you, everything goes blue for about half a second until everything looks normal again. Glancing behind, now things on the outside of the… 'area' look blue and everything inside seems normally colored.

541151

>>541148
"…I'm getting confused about this shit. Should we check that out?"

541153

>>541148
"Hmm… this requires investigation."
To the left you say? We'll have to carefully stray off path then.

541154

>>541148
>>541151
>>541153
"It's most likely a magic bubble.
Probably anti-scrying, if I were to hapzard a guess.
To hide something in here."

541155

>>541148
"If the rest of you want, I could go check that out."

541156

>>541137
"Well that takes care of that. Let's stay on the move!"

>>541148
"Seriously? Again? What is this?"

>>541151
>>541153
"Yeah, we should."

541158

>>541154
"Seems rather counter-productive given that it attracts our attention."

>>541155
"We shall go together."

541160

>>541156
>>541155
>>541154
>>541153
You have to travel about another eight hundred feet before it comes into view. Up ahead you see town gates.

541162

>>541158
"Ours.
Strangers in a strange land."
>>541160
Any town I know?
'1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

541163

>>541160
"… Stay on guard. This may not end well."

541164

>>541160
"Call me paranoid, but I'm not exactly expecting a warm welcome."

541165

>>541162
"I believe it would attract the attention of any Neighponese pony as well."

541166

>>541160
>>541162
>>541163
"I don't think they'll approach us with cookies and crackers or whatever."

541167

>>541166
I chuckle.
"You may be right."

541168

>>541162
No, which is almost suspicious in this case because small towns are not walled typically.

541170

>>541167
Grin.
"All the better."

541171

>>541167
>>541166
"…This town has walls."
Frown.
"It's not… Common."
>>541168
Right.
What can I see from here?
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

541173

>>541171
Forest canopy and town walls. There's a gate here, too.

541174

>>541168
Are there any guards at the gates?

541175

>>541173
Right.
I will keep behind the others.

541176

>>541171
"Maybe it's not a town then."

541177

>>541173
"Shall we at least knock?"

541178

>>541174
No one at the gates. There are no towers.

541180

>>541176
"Keep en guardé."
>>541177
"Or bypass it entirely."

541183

>>541178
"Walls, but no guards… interesting." Turn to the party. "What do you want to do? Bypass this place and keep going, or investigate further?"

541184

>>541178
Can I fly and peek over the walls carefully?

Roll #1 9 = 9

541190

>>541184
You fly physically up over the canopy. Trees still obscure most of your view but you can see a lot of buildings like blacksmith and sawmill. The center of the town is a great tower, however.

541192

>>541184
Wait for her to return.

541193

>>541190
Hmmm… no ponies?
Land again.
"I can see a blacksmith and sawmill inside… as well as some sort of tower."

541196

>>541193
"The choice is your, Lady Heart. Do we walk inside or around it?"

541199

>>541196
"It seems worth investigating."

541200

>>541193
"Do we check it out?"

541201

>>541199
"Very well.
Please, stand back."
>>541190
Open the town's door.
Or at least try to, if they aren't locked.

541206

>>541199
"Very well then. I'll be close by if you need me." Stealth and get ready to enter the town.

541207

Ooof I'm here now.

541210

>>541201
"Should I just slam them open?"

541211

>>541193
No ponies visible inside.

>>541201
The door appears to be locked. There is a very fancy mechanism on the front.

>>541207
You are traveling through an emerald-tree forest. The shining leaves of these trees are quite common, but beautiful nonetheless.

541213

>>541210
Smile a bit.
"Now Lady Tela, we have a master thief amongst our midst, no need to use cannons to kill flies."
>>541211
>>541206
Whistle for him.
"We might need your expertise."

541214

>>541211
That's cool.
Do any of my team members need me for this door?

541215

>>541211
Mechanism? Inspect it closely.

Roll #1 1 = 1

541216

>>541211
I'll fly up and look inside too.
Not a single soul around?

541219

>>541213
HP asks you, "Have you seen this town before?"

>>541215
>>541214
>>541206
>>541200
You overhear HP asking Flowing Tree, "Have you seen this town before?"

>>541214
I suspect they'll tap the lock specialist.

>>541216
You observe no one from your vantage outside the walls. Treetops block your view somewhat, though.

>>541215
Your investigations yield nothing at all.

541221

>>541219
Shake my head.
"No, but what town in the middle of nowhere has walls that protect no ponies?"

541222

"Alright then, give me a moment here. Let's see what we're dealing with." Master Thief examination of the lock. Any traps that I can see?

541224

>>541219
I'll wait here then.
Looking around for trouble.

541225

>>541219
>>541213
I don't understand moonspeak!
"I could fly over to see if there is a unlocking mechanism on the other side, but if our new addition can take care of it… just as well."

>>541221
"Please, there is no reason to speak Neighponese. It is rather rude to do so in the company of those who do not, no?"

541226

>>541215
>>541214

You overhear Flowing Tree reply, "No, but what town in the middle of nowhere has walls that protect no ponies."

You overhear HP respond, "It's a strange phenomenon! How exciting! A mystery!"

>>541221
"It's a strange phenomenon! How exciting! A mystery!"

>>541224
There's not much to see with this wide canopy.

541227

>>541226
"A mystery my ass, just an abandoned, empty ghost town."

541228

>>541225
It sounded like Equestrian to you.

>>541222
You observe no traps. This lock does not appear to be special.

541229

>>541228
… What? How?

541230

>>541225
I think you might actually be able to understand us, given wf's replies.
"That'd put you in grave danger."
>>541226
"Indeed. Ready to fight your way through it, I hope?"

541231

>>541229
I guess that's part of the mystery. Fun.

541232

>>541227
"Empty ghost towns don't spread large bubbles of-"
Wait a second.
"You never told me you understood neighponese, miss Emrille."

541233

>>541228
"Alright, looks safe enough…" I'll try to pick the lock. Do I need to roll for it?

541235

>>541213
"Why not? Could be fun!"

>>541227
"How do you explain that blue shit then, genius?"

541236

>>541227
HP gives you a confused look. "You speak Neighponese?"

>>541230
"Maybe we won't have to fight! But we should not speak Neighponese if it bothers my employer."

>>541231

541238

>>541232
Shrug.
"Because I don't speak your moonlanguage?"

541239

>>541233
No. The lock pops open without protest.

541240

>>541235
"I'm sure there will be plenty of fun to be had inside."
>>541236
>>541238
Raise a brow and exchange a look with Puzzle.
Turn to the group.
"Can you ponies understand me right now?"

541242

>>541236
"Oh, I see! The bubble must also act as a translation spell! Interesting."
>>541239
"There we go. Door's open, everypony."

"Duh, of course we can."

541247

>>541243
"Well now.
It seems this bubble allows you to understand Neighponese, then."
>>541242
"Good job."

541248

>>541244
>>541240
"… Yes. You are speaking Neighponese?"

>>541242
"The question is… does it only translate Neighponese or more?"

541250

>>541247
Snicker.
"Ching chong ding dong!"

541252

>>541248
"I were."
Nod.
"Please, do try something else."
>>541250
"Very funny, nearly as much as hay burgers and clapping."
Smirk.

541253

>>541244
"Huh… that's pretty handy."

541255

>>541252
"I hang out with Hamburgerburgians, then what?"
Smirk back.

541256

>>541255
"Ching chong ding dong!"
Answer as if serious trying to say something.

541257

>>541248
>>541253
"The bigger question is: why would you need a translation spell, in a town that clearly doesn't get a lot of traffic?"

541258

>>541256
"Hey, I think it broke."

541259

>>541252
"Comprenez-vous français dans cette bulle?"

541262

>>541257
Shake my head.
"That question almost answers itself, doesn't it?"
>>541258
Snicker a bit, and then let it slide.

Waiting on confirmation.

>>541258
"Dumbass…"

541269

>>541259
Nod in confirmation.
"And I hear it as Equestrian."

541270

>>541262
>>541266
Snort amusedly.

>>541265
"I do… anyway, are we going in or what?"

541272

>>541269
>>541270
"How odd… come, let us advance."
Inside we go!

541273

>>541266
"And yet here we are. Clearly something is going on that we don't know about."
>>541262
"Not really. Why would a place that seems built to keep outsiders out have a spell that makes it easier for strangers from other places to understand each other?"

541274

>>541273
"Because it's home to ponies from every other culture, obviously."
>>541272
Inside we go.

541275

>>541272
Fly inside.

541278

>>541270
>>541272
There is one inside the town. You notice when you move inside that there are no residential structures here at all. A single tower at the middle, a saw-mill, a blacksmith, and a tavern. Not a soul in sight.

>>541275
You fly over the wall instead of going through the door and slam into an invisible wall, falling down onto the road below.

541279

>>541278
>>541274
"You were saying?"

541280

>>541278
"Oww, fuck…"
Walk in.
"Hey, don't try flying over the wall, it doesn't work."

541283

>>541280
>>541279

There is one inside the town. You notice when you move inside that there are no residential structures here at all. A single tower at the middle, a saw-mill, a blacksmith, and a tavern. Not a soul in sight.

541285

>>541278
"That tower… I believe we should look inside there."

541286

>>541283
"Such a welcome party." I breath out.

>>541285
"What do you think of all this?"

541287

>>541279
"Patience. And stay on your heels."
>>541285
>>541283
Nod, and advance towards the tower.

541292

>>541285
>>541287
"You guys go look inside, I'll stand guard outside."

541295

>>541286
"To be quite honest, I do not have the slightest clue."

541296

>>541283
>>541285
Cock my rifle.
"Time to see who's home allright."

541297

>>541283
>>541287
"Indeed I shall. Just call me if you need me." and back into stealth as we enter the tower.

541298

>>541285
>>541287
You open the door to the tower with no trouble. In the lobby you see nice granite floors and a stairwell up. Here on the first floor there is nothing but what appear to be animal domestication tools: mouth bits, cow whips, etc. Notably, there is a puddle of water here with a mop that is cleaning the floor with itself.

541299

>>541297
You enter stealth and see >>541298

541301

>>541298
"… Hmmm. This does not bode well."
Take the stairs up.

541302

Draw a sword.
"…You can talk?"
Turn to the mop moving by itself.

541303

>>541298
Stand guard outside and let the others inspect the tower.

541304

>>541302
>can you talk*

541305

>>541298
Up we go

541306

>>541298
>>541299
If there wasn't such an ominous air around this place, I might almost think this place could be fun. I'll grab one of the mouth bits and a few other toys before shadowing the party up the stairs.

541308

>>541302
The puddle does not seem to acknowledge your presence as it cleans the floor.

>>541303
The tower is made out of granite and andesite. It appears to be about three floors and around forty feet tall. The bricks are large and almost supernaturally perfectly arranged.

>>541301
>>541305
>>541306
There is nothing but more stairwell and a fireplace on the second floor. The ground here is wood instead of stone. In the fireplace, a flame is crouched on a log. It reaches out and drags another log inside and sidles over onto it.

541310

>>541308
"… Very odd."
Go top floor?

541312

>>541308
Fine.
Let's go upstairs.
After the others.

541314

>>541308
Let's keep going then.

541315

>>541310
>>541312
You're about to get to the next landing when you bump directly into a neighponese mare in a french maid outfit who is headed downstairs. She looks dazed.

541317

>>541315
Look back at her, without a word.

541318

>>541315
"… Good day?"

541319

>>541308
"I'm getting the heebie jeebies from this place."
Keep moving up.

>>541315
Let out a short whistle.
Let LH do the talking. Aim at the maid, though.

541324

>>541315
Oh, so it's that kind of place! No wonder the owner doesn't like visitors. There any pockets on that maid outfit?

541330

>>541308
Hmmm… this place is weird, first that blue haze and now this.

Any cute neighponese going about or is this place deserted?

541331

>>541317
>>541318
She mindlessly attempts to keep walking down the stairs, which is ill-advised because she clearly has not plotted for obstacles. The three of you unevenly attempt to maintain your balance before toppling down. Roll to stop yourselves before you take out everyone below you.

>>541319
She doesn't react.

Roll to evade.

>>541324
Yes there are.

Roll to evade.

541332

This place is totally deserted.

Is there room to fly up and out of her way?

541340

>>541332
Damn how boring, are we in Awa by the way? I mean if there are no neighponese qt's here then what did I push my ass going here n the first place.

…..

My feet hurts…..

541341

>>541335
>>541334
You manage to grab Light Heart and the tumbling maid and slide for about a foot before you grab the railing and steady the lot of you.

The ragdoll mare attempts to keep walking as though nothing happened.

>>541337
>>541338
The two of you carefully leap out of the way, but it wasn't necessary.

541342

>>541340
Not even close. You know it is days away.

Why is this place so empty?

Just keep watch of the horizon, once they go down here we better move on. We cannot delay ourselves and play detective here.

541348

No you are with me.

541350

Alright, can I check the mare's pockets with Sleight of Hand?

541357

>>541355
"Hm? Of course I am. Though this is a highly disturbing situation."

541359

>>541357
"Watch the back of the stairs as we deal with this, please."

541361

>>541350
If you roll for it.

>>541346
I don't think you went in the tower. You do if you did.

>>541347
You can't see the horizon because of the tall trees and walls.

>>541353
"She looks like she's sleepwalking!"

>>541345
>>541355
>>541359
You attempt to spellbreak her… but suddenly you feel perfectly serene. You must have been hit by a teleportation spell because you're on the beach… The seagulls gently caw in the distance. You feel totally at peace here. You're sure everything will work out.

>>541343
There is nothing to dodge, but you embarrassingly jump behind Emrille anyway.

Alright, what's in her pockets? '1d10+2'

Roll #1 10 + 2 = 12

541364

You perform a thorough search and find absolutely nothing. Not even lint, which is super weird.

541365

>>541361
Bummer.
Stand there tall and wait for the others to do their business.

541367

>>541361
"What the…"
Look around, where is everypony else?
And would attempt to spellbreak this, thinking it an illusion, be against the "You're sure everything will work out" part?

541369

>>541359
"In a moment."

>>541361
"Yes… it must be some sort of spell. Seems like there is quite a lot of magic going on in the area. Somepony here must be quite proficient at magic."
Take a peek upstairs.

Roll #1 1 = 1

541370

>>541361
I didn't.
I'll just guard the area here.
The one that's deserted.

541372

>>541367
It doesn't matter because you have no catalyst. Not that this bothers you.

Still, the setting sun on the horizon is beautiful.

>>541370
>>541365
The two of you guard the deserted area.

>>541369
You start to seize up and have a heart attack. You expect Flowing Tree to keep a grip on you but he has a dumb grin on his face and looks totally distant. You flail your way down the stairs with HP chasing after you. "Light Heeeeart!"

541374

>>541372
>>541365
"What do you think is going on here, mister Chip?"

541375

>>541372
"Fuck…"
Can't help with that heart.
I'll just head up then.

541376

>>541364
Well, I'm not sure what I was expecting, but still strange. Now,-
>>541369
>>541372
Uh oh.
>>541367
What the heck? Okay, what's going on?

541377

>>541372
NOT THE BEST TIME, HEART.
Calm down.
It'll be alright.

I bite my lips.
"We cannot linger here and play detective, we should just pack up and leave. What do you think?"

541379

>>541372
Well then.
Look at it for a moment, relax.
Take deep breaths.
I'm sure they warned me about illusions, in samurai high school!
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

541380

>>541378
"We have to wait until the others come back.
What if they get into trouble?"

541381

>>541361
Let's pretend that didn't happen.

>>541372
>>541369
"Ah fuck, again?"

>>541375
Follow her, I can't help with this either!

541382

>>541381
I saw it~

541383

>>541380
I snicker.
"I'm not saying we should leave them of course, all of us must cart off after those guys are done looting that tower."

541384

>>541383
"…They seem to take a long time…shouldn't we go look, mister chip?"

541385

>>541377
Eventually HP catches up with you and stuffs a pill in your gullet.

>>541376
>>541375
>>541381
An Equestrian unicorn wearing a kimono is at the top of the stairs. He gives you a surprised look.

"What are you doing in my tower?"

>>541379
You feel confident that it is not an illusion now. It was a teleportation spell, based on all the typical signs that you learned at samurai school.

541386

>>541385
Wait, aren't I still stealthed?

541387

>>541385
Ah yes.
Then, time to find out where I am.
And where my gear is gone.
Take a little trip of this place.
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

541389

>>541384
I scratch my head.
"Hmmm… to tell the truth, I dont trust this place. Its too empty, I want someone to guard the door just in case something cause trouble outside thats why I volunteered to stay."

I then look at her.
"Do you want to go check them out? You will leave me alone and cold here." I smile.

541391

>>541385
"… Thank you."
Get back on my hooves and look at the unicorn who appeared up the stairs.
"Good day sir. We are travelers who happened to come upon a strange blue magic effect and decided to investigate."

541392

>>541386
Yes, you are. You still observe the situation.

>>541387
The beach is pleasantly coarse. It feels like a hoof massage. Not bad.

541393

>>541385
"Visiting, I guess."

541394

>>541389
"Certainly someone as big and strong as you isn't scared of whatever might be in that tower?"

541396

>>541392
The only missing thing is a bunch of pretty mares now.
'1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

541399

>>541385
"Uh… just sightseeing. What's up with all the creepy shit?"

541400

>>541391
>>541393
"So you broke past my gate and decided to come into my tower uninvited? Get out of here! Just… go, I can fix the door whatever you've done with it. You must've been the ones disturbing my orb earlier."

The maid walks past you down to the bottom of the tower.

>>541396
You glance around and see a little town further down the coast. Might be some mares there, who knows? It surely is a pleasant view to take advantage of.

541401

>>541392
Ah, good. Does the hallway look wide enough for me to be able to sneak past him?

541404

>>541399
"Sight-seeing on private property? This is trespassing, get out of here. Shoo!"

>>541401
Roll for it. It is a stairwell and he's in the middle of it.

541405

>>541400
"Now let us not be hasty… what exactly is going on in this quaint village?"

541406

>>541400
Oh boy.
Can't wait.
Guess this marks the end of my time with the fleet, depending how far I am.
They might even think I was disintegrated.

541408

>>541404
Alright then, quick, while he's distracted! '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

541409

>>541394
I shrug.
"I am not scared in the slightest but one has to keep watch of things from the outside while everyone is inside. I mean Tela, Wark, Tree, Puzzle and specially Emrille are inside, they can handle themselves."

I then breath out.
"If you want to check them out I'm fine with that, I can handle myself here in case something comes along.;"

541411

>>541409
"I'll be right back, don't worry!"

>>541404
I hurry inside.

541412

>>541400
Tip my hat.
"Aww, c'mon, I'm sure we can just have a quick chat."
Diplomacy! Just like Face taught!

541413

>>541405
"I built this village, with magic! It's mine. That's why there are no houses here. This is all private property! Please leave immediately before I have to make you leave. You are not my guests. This is a crime."

>>541408
You slip on by. This is a bedroom area. There are many books here. On the table there's a blue orb and a journal left open.

>>541411
Your gang appears to be holding up the owner of this residence.

541415

>>541413
"You built it all with magic?!? Amazing!"

541417

>>541411
Well there she goes…

>>541413
Stand guard outside as usual.

541418

>>541404
"Don't you shoo me! Who are you anyway? The mayor? You don't look like a Neighpony."

541419

>>541413
Entirely useless until rescued?

541420

>>541413
Quick skim through the journal. What's mister Wizard been up to?

541421

>>541413
"Your maid seems a little… odd. Is she quite alright?"

541422

>>541412
"Listen… if you really want to by my guests, go down to the tavern and I will have tea brought down, but invading my house is totally unacceptable!"

>>541418
"Yes, if a village of two can be said to be a village with a mayor!"

>>541419
You can still enjoy your dream.

>>541415
"Thank you."

Flowing Tree wanders downstairs.

>>541420
The latest page is an entry about how his orb stopped functioning this morning. He was able to start it up again, but he's not sure what caused it.

>>541421
"This is absolutely absurd. I asked about why you are homebreaking first. Explain your criminal actions immediately before I answer anything."

541423

>>541422
You didn't answer, so I thouth that was out of the question.

541425

>>541422
Check earlier pages. Anything about that maid? Any explanation for the orb?

541426

>>541422
"How w-…Mister Tree?"

I run after him to catch him '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

541428

"Sir, please calm yourself. We are merely concerned travelers who noticed a strange blue glow and decided to investigate. Would it truly be so hard to elaborate on the situation? Some of us are quite curious what type of magic you employ."
Motion at Selena.
Smooth Talker.

Roll #1 9 = 9

541430

>>541422
Look at the maid.
"She looks a little out of it."

541434

>>541422
"Tea sounds good."
Don't move a muscle though.

541436

>>541423
My bad.

You wander up there. It's a quaint little place but there are a couple of laughing young things outside the tea house.

>>541425
The last week are explanations about his efforts to develop an orb to create comprehension of tongues. He mentions that he has to manually boost it to get it up to a wider range.

>>541426
You manage to catch up to him as he is donning a maid uniform on the first floor, which was under the table with all the implements.

>>541428
"Alright, fine. But you need to leave my home. I offered to treat you as guests if you go down to the tavern instead."

>>541430
The maid has long since departed down the stairs.

541439

>>541436
"Very well."
Motion the others to move out.
Look at Flowing Tree.
"… Hm. It appears something went wrong."

541440

>>541436
Back towards the beginning then. Any explanation for the maid?

541441

>>541436
Wut?
"Mister Tree? What are you doing?"
Shake him '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Roll to search

541443

>>541436
Trot up to them.
"Well then, I'm stuck in a tiny tower with a lot of strange magic and next thing I know, you beauties are here.
Must be my lucky day."

541444

>>541442
Alright, quick skim time. '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

541447

>>541441
He seems out of it.

>>541439
On the first floor Selena is shaking Mister Tree who is in a maid outfit.

>>541443
They giggle.

"You talk flowery."

"Are you from the Forbidden City?"

541451

>>541447
"I might have been there, yes.
But not even in those rose-tinted halls I ever found beauties of your kind."

541453

>>541439
>>541447
Raise a brow.
"The fuck?"

541454

>>541444
You read a bunch of boring notes about his travels in Equestria. You do read about a mare – but he's just commenting on how pretty the mare at the customs house was and how it pained him that he didn't have the courage to ask her to join him. She doesn't even match descriptions.

>>541451
"You're quite the charmer!"

"Where are you from Mister Charmer?"

541455

>>541447
Slap him '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

541456

>>541447
Is the guy with the kimono still with us?
"… How peculiar. What sort of magic could this be?"

541457

>>541454
Am I able to keep searching? '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

541458

>>541454
"Where I am from doesn't matter.
What of where we are going, instead?"
Take two of them under my hooves, and start walking.

541459

>>541455
>>541458
One of them suddenly slaps you. Wait… no, it's Selena. You're back in the tower.

… It must've been an illusion after all.

>>541457
Sure. You find an exhaustive entry on the flavors of rice.

>>541456
He shrugs. "I've never seen that stallion before. Did you bring him with you?"

541460

>>541459
"Are you okay, mister Tree?"

541461

>>541459
"Yes indeed, mister… ?"

541462

>>541459
Rub my slapped cheek and look at Selena.
Then at myself.
>>541455
>>541460
Speak in a dry tone.
"Thank you for that."

541463

>>541459
Keep skimming then, there's got to be answers somewhere in here. '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

541465

>>541459
So whats happening? Are they still inside the tower?

541468

>>541463
Reading takes time. You're a couple minutes ahead of everyone else. I'll reply again once they've caught up to you.

541469

>>541465
Yep. Though now you can see them as people are gathering on the first floor.

541473

>>541468
So, about checking myself over for my stuff?

541476

541477

>>541469
I peer inside.

>>541462
>>541463
>>541461
>>541460
"Hey you all done looting the place? We should get a move on men, or mare's."

541478

>>541473
Oh, yeah, you've got all your stuff. Except you're in a maid outfit.

541479

>>541462
I nod.

541480

>>541478
"…"
Step out of it and back into my usual garb.
Now, do I see the mare from before?
>>541476
>>541479
"What exactly happened after I lost consciousness?"

541484

>>541461
"Arrow. Now out with you! I need to go put on something more formal."

He goes upstairs.

The puddle eyes you warily.

>>541480
No

541486

>>541484
The mage?

541487

>>541480
"You…didn't…you just walked around an put on this outfit."

541488

>>541484
>>541480
>>541477
"Very odd. Let us convene at the tavern and see what is happening here."

541489

>>541463
Aha! You found something… after making the mainland he met a nice but forceful girl in the village who seemed to like him…

Roll perception.

>>541486
No

541490

>>541487
"I see.
It happears the spell I tried to break broke me instead.
Where is the mare from before?"
>>541488
"The mare from earlier.
I know what spell she is under and intend to break it.
Have you seen where she went?"
>>541489
Look for the maid.

541492

>>541488
"The tavern? Should we not just go the main road and get a move on? We should not play detective here." I frown.

541493

>>541488
Follow her.
"Is it just me, or something ain't right with this?"

541494

>>541490
"I believe it may be wise to hold off on doing so until we have a better image of what is happening."

>>541492
"Why, I think we should. This warrants more investigation."

541495

>>541494
"…It's not a pleasant spell, but it is easy to break.
I'd rather not keep her imprisoned any longer."

541496

>>541494
But.
Sigh.
"But I understand the need for a strategy.
Make way."

541497

>>541495
"I understand, but we should not be hasty either."
Lean in close and lower my voice.
"Whoever this mister Arrow is… he is likely quite the competent mage."

541498

>>541490
The maid is pruning a rosebush near the tower.

>>541491
You don't notice the stallion coming up until the last second and dive behind the bed to maintain your stealth.

This place is pretty well lit, it'll be tricky to maintain it. You'll need clever use of cover. There is a table, a chair, this bed, and a closet. And of course – the stairs.

541499

>>541494
I frown and stand up.
"Why? We are too go to Awa and get the Marquee and everything else is wasting time."

I go in.
"What did you guys find out that warrant our time here to stay?"

541500

>>541498
>>541499
"We found a strange stallion here."

541502

>>541497
Nod and follow her away.
"What do you plan on doing? The spell he cast on me was a powerful one, everyone should be aware of it before we take another step."

541504

>>541500
I looked glumly.
"And? I mean you can just look at Wark and Ms. Puzzle, they are strange Equine's."

I then turn to both.
"No offense Wark and Ms. Puzzle."

541506

>>541498
How's that mare look?

541507

>>541498
Alright, how good of a hiding place would the chair make? Does it have one of those backs with gaps, or is it solid? For now, I'll stick behind the bed, since he can't see me here right now.

541508

>>541499
"That is our main objective, yes."

>>541502
"He does not seem intent on casting it upon us if we behave. We could simply leave after questioning him."

541512

>>541494
>>541493
"This place is fucking creepy… I thought foreigners weren't allowed here?"

541513

>>541502
"What did he do exactly?"

541514

>>541508
"That is what I am telling, now if we are finished looting this tower we have to get a move on."

541515

>>541506
She looks distant, but happy. There is a serene smile on her face.

>>541507
It has a solid back. He immediately heads over to the table. If he turned his head now, he would certainly see you – but this could be your chance to make a break for the closet or stairs (roll). The closet is much closer and has a closeable door.

He examines his blue orb and gently pats it. "I don't know why… I felt… almost like you were in danger. Okay." He breathes in and out. "Time to entertain guests. Who are probably bandits. I should probably send for the daimyo's bannermen just in case."

He scribbles something down on a piece of paper. Occupied writing – your chance.

541516

>>541508
"He's basically enslaved that mare.
Do you suggest we leave her there?
"
Speak perfectly calmly, no emotions whatsoever in my words.
>>541513
"Gave me a perfect world."

541517

>>541515
I didn't intend to look at her face.

>>541512
"It's creepy allright, but Light seems curious."

541519

>>541504
HP seems cheerful.

"It's okay to be different!"

Wark grumbles something. "Ye aren't exactly normal either ya lecherous kennelfodder."

541520

>>541517
You check her behind. She's not wearing panties.

541521

>>541515
Alright, try for the closet first. '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

541523

>>541520
Snicker.
"We should get an outfit like that for you, Tela."

541524

>>541516
"….How? You saw a perfect world?"

>>541514
"We can't leave here just yet. This stallion is using some strange magic."

541525

>>541524
"An illusion.
Powerful and pleasing to the soul."

541526

>>541521
You stumble over the bed, loudly, hiding on the opposite side of it now.

He whips around. "Hey, I told you to go to the tav– huh? … Is someone there?"

541527

>>541519
"I am glad you two know my…. wait." I stopped when Wark commented.

>>541524
"What stallion?" I just raised an eyebrow.

541530

>>541516
"I would rather not, no. But we cannot risk the mission for it either."

541531

>>541527
"He should be coming soon."

>>541525
"…an illusion, you say…"
I ponder this.

541533

>>541526
Nope nopony here, just go back to what you were doing! I stay silent and wait for him to return to what he was doing.

541535

>>541531
>>541519
"If that is so then all the more reason to leave this place. This is not our priority remember?" I frown.

"Come on, lets have a move on."

541536

>>541527
"The owner of this domain."

>>541531
"Intrigued?"

541538

>>541530
Nod.
"I understand.
But keep in mind, there seems to be something interesting about this place, and I would not be opposed to finding out more.
After all, we saw how to break that spell.
A slap is enough."

541539

>>541533
He grumbles. "I'm so jumpy… maybe they aren't bandits. Bandits would've just attacked straight away."

He turns back to his letter.

541541

>>541539
Alright, would running for the stairs be any easier now?

541542

>>541538
"Then we are agreed. I would like to find out more as well. Magic like this… it is not common. This stallion may be immensely powerful."

>>541535
"It is not, but that does not mean we cannot investigate."

541544

>>541536
"A bit…but Mr Chip is right, it's not part of our mission…"

541545

>>541541
Now or never.

541547

>>541542
"Indeed.
A most intriguing hex.
I want to learn more about it."

541548

>>541536
>>541542
I looked up
"So someone owns this tower after all huh? What is he like? And why do we have to check him out?"

I then lean in closer and whisper.
"Does he got anything lootable? Is he rich or something?"

541549

>>541545
Going! '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

541551

>>541548
"That is something we should investigate."

541552

>>541544
"Well… I suppose we can always return."

>>541548
"He may as well be very rich… but you should remember that we are here as privateers."

541553

>>541548
"He's more weird than anything else."

541554

>>541552
>>541548
"We could ask him for directions. Or perhaps a few supplies for our way!"

541557

>>541554
"Yes, that may not be a bad idea."

541558

>>541549
You slip out with dextrous skill and cunning!

541559

>>541558
Let's wait for mister Arrow then.

541560

>>541554
"Ask him about that hex.
It's given me a most interesting vision."

541564

>>541558
Alright, that was close. Go find the rest of the party then.

541567

>>541552
>>541551
>>541553
>>541554
I think for a moment.
"Group huddle."
Before forcing everyone to a huddle and whisper.

"So what do you guys really are planning? Do you want to investigate this stallion or not? Its not part of our mission but if this has something to gain the fleet then I may be in, as long as this is something really significant. If not then we must be on our way instead of wasting our time."

541568

>>541559
Waitin'

541570

>>541567
"What's wrong with having some tea for the way?"

541571

>>541567
"First, we shoul all regroup."
Say that in a low tone.

541574

>>541567
"This is a diplomatic mission, we should not be provoking any violence, only defending against it. We will share a drink with this stallion, ask for directions and go on our way."

541575

>>541559
>>541564
>>541567
>>541568
>>541570
>>541571
Finally he comes downstairs in nice clothes and calls to the maid. "Tea, please!"

She heads into the tavern.

541577

>>541575
Well, in the tavern we go.

541578

>>541575
Stare at him go.
"Sir, could I have a word with you?"

541579

>>541570
>>541574
>>541571
"Well nothing wrong with tea, but the longer we delay, the longer Abilio and the rest are waiting for us. He may not be all too delighted if a two or three day mission lasted for a week."

"Just saying my concerns."

>>541575
"Hey!"

541580

>>541578
"I thought we planned to have words in the tavern?"

>>541579
"Even more? Celestia…"

541581

>>541579
Shrug.
"We won't take long."

541582

>>541574
I nod.

>>541575
"Just for an hour."

>>541579
I go inside the tavern.

541583

>>541580
"You see, I was out of it while you planned that.
Part of the reason I wanted to talk with you.
But of course, I can wait."

541585

>>541580
And into the tavern I go.

541586

>>541575
To the tavern.
"Thank you for your graceful hospitality, mister Arrow. My name is Light Heart and these are my fellow travelers. We are en route to a city called Awa."

541588

>>541577
>>541585
>>541582
>>541581
I just sigh and follow them.

541589

>>541575
I suppose I'm headed into the tavern as well.

541590

>>541586
>>541585
>>541583
>>541582
>>541581
He follows you inside.

"Awa is a long way away. Why are you stopping here? You're closer to Nagobana anyway."

541591

>>541590
"Because you offered us tea, duh."

541592

>>541590
"Indeed we are. But the blue shine of your magic got us interested. And this place was on the road to begin with."

541594

>>541590
"We were intrigued. The area appeared blue and for some reason we could all understand foreign languages."

541596

>>541590
"Curiosity. When you color the forest blue, it tends to make ponies curious. Or did you hope it would scare ponies away?"

541597

>>541590
I scratch my head.
"Is that it? Did we go in the long way instead of the short cut?"

541599

>>541591
"I meant – why did you open the locked door to my village?"

The maid serves tea.

>>541592
>>541594
>>541596
"I was hoping the lock on the door would've been sufficient to at least get ponies to ask for entry. Apparently I need to post a sentry."

>>541597
"No, this road is the most direct way."

541601

>>541599
"That might be large part of why ponies come here, yes.
Now, I do have one question."
Spare a glance at the maid.
"The spell she's under."

541602

>>541599
"We were curious, I guess."

541603

>>541599
"I see, then we are going the right way."

….
"So about the tea? What is it made of?" I look at the tea with a bit of suspicion.

541604

>>541599
"Apologies, we thought this to be some sort of ghost town."
Look at the maid.
"What is… wrong with her, exactly? She appears to be sleepwalking."

541607

>>541601
>>541604
"That is private. I'd appreciate if you didn't ask about it."

>>541603
Fresh tea leaves, right from the source.

541609

>>541602
"Where are you from? Why are you headed to Awa? You are certainly foreigners as I am."

541611

>>541607
"I see… and the spell that allows everypony to understand other languages?"

541612

>>541607
"I fell under its influence. I'm afraid it is not strictly personal to you anymore.
But do not worry, I do not intend to take her away from you.
What I want is the hex for personal use."

541613

>>541607
"Oh…."
I nip from my tea.

541614

>>541609
"We have a little fleet. We are here on a…business trip."

>>541607
"Is it private because she has no panties?"

541617

>>541601
"It's quite strange. His journal described a girl who was very forceful that he met on the mainland. Quite a change in behavior."

541618

>>541611
"I made that, in fact."

>>541612
"I'm not sure that is strictly ethical."

>>541613
It's good! Perhaps a little too hot. You detect a hint of cinnamon.

>>541614
"Business in Awa? You know about the war, right?"

541619

>>541617
Nod.
"What else is he hiding?"

541620

>>541607
I then sip.
Is it tasty?

>>541612
>>541614
"Hey, its private, leave the man alone with his stuff. We are his guests" I look at them.

541622

>>541618
"For myself.
As a relaxation method."

541623

>>541618
YUMMM
"I love your tea, mister!"

541624

>>541620
It's good! Perhaps a little too hot. You detect a hint of cinnamon. The tea leaves were fresh.

541627

>>541618
"It is quite wonderful, you must be a competent mage. Does it translate every language known to ponykind?"

541628

>>541620
"Fine, fine…"
Roll my eyes.

>>541618
"War is business."
Sip of the tea.

541629

>>541624
>>541623
"Nice, it taste good." I smile and look at Selena.

"Can you make these? Or perhaps copy it?"

541631

>>541620
I nod.
"Mister Chip is right. We are guests."

541632

>>541619
"A blue orb responsible for this sphere and the translation spell. Beyond that, who knows? I didn't have much time."
>>541618
"My only question is whether she's okay with it."

541633

>>541632
"Perfect. Could you take me there if need be?"

541634

>>541623
"Thank you, all the ingredients were home-grown."

>>541622
He raises a brow. "Well… maybe I could make a scroll or something, if you could pay for it."

>>541627
"Only the ones she knows. Prench, Equestria, Germane, Neighponese."

>>541628
"Ah, mercenaries, then. I did not expect the Daimyo of Awa to become so desperate as to recruit foreigners. Not that I have any problem with foreigners, naturally."

>>541632
"She has a smile on her face, doesn't she?"

541636

>>541634
"I could find something, yes. As long as I alone would be able to control the spell.
Wouldn't want to fall prey of its…"
Glance at the maid again.
"Side effects."

541638

>>541634
"What brings you here in the middle of the forest if I may ask?"

541639

>>541634
"We're the best ones there are, so no wonder about wanting us."
Grin.

541641

>>541634
"Maybe, but it wouldn't be easy. You're not the sneakiest of ponies, and I had a few close calls when I was on my own."

541643

>>541634
"Oh my… she must be quite wordly. I must say I am surprised to see an Equestrian here."

541644

>>541634
I sip the tea.
"Say, what is your opinion of this….. war going on?"

541645

>>541641
"I would not sneak."

541649

>>541638
"I thought I made it clear I live here. I made this place."

>>541639
"Well, good luck to you."

>>541643
"Yes, she is the love of my life. But you are an Equestrian yourself are you not?"

>>541644
"It is far away. If it becomes a major affair the Ode shogunate will step in."

541651

541652

>>541645
"…I see. Well then, yes, I could guide you there. However, I do not think he would take kindly to it's theft."

541653

>>541649
"Yes, but why here?"

541654

>>541649
"Thanks. Doesn't it get boring here, by the way?"

541657

>>541649
"I am actually from the New World, as it so happens. But yes, I have Equestrian roots."

541658

>>541652
"I intend to destroy it."

541661

>>541636
"Yes, well, I might be able to alter it with some practice."

>>541653
"It is close enough to a city so I can buy goods, and far enough that ponies will leave us alone."

>>541654
"Nothing is boring when you spend it with your love."

>>541657
"Well, there you have it. Is your trip to Awa urgent?"

541662

>>541661
"The trip is indeed urgent.
How long would that take?"

541663

>>541661
"Fair enough. Don't you miss some action every now and then though? And I don't mean action with her."

541664

>>541661
"Somewhat, yes. We will not stay here for much longer."

"So this place is still carefree as it is, its fair to stay that way. Why knock on someone else troubles, that only invites disaster." I finish my tea.

I then give him a glare of suspicion.
"So tell me, did you like our company and just invite us to drink tea? Or is there something else that you need of us here?"

541666

>>541658
"Very we- wait. He said it only translates the languages she knows. If it's somehow connected to her, destroying it might cost us a potential asset."

541667

>>541661
I nod.
"I suppose you want some peace and quiet to continue your magic studies."

541668

>>541666
"Don't fret. It's only in case worse comes to worse."

541670

>>541662
He considers it. "I would have to start right away. Do you have the money?"

You'll have to bum some off these pirates.

>>541665
"No, I actually want you to leave, but this seemed more polite than kicking you out right away. If I had something sinister in mind I would've had the tea poisoned. I just want you to leave in peace."

>>541667
"Yes, ideally. You are an odd bunch. Fairly polite for homebreakers. If you'd like, I can send you on the way with a pot of tea."

541672

541674

>>541670
I clap.
"What did I say about not inviting trouble. You are a smart pony after all." I smile as I stand up.

"Sorry about the intrusion, my friends are really curious about everything instead of focusing. Anyway thanks for the tea…"

"Uhmmm… whats your name?" I scratch my head.

541676

>>541670
I don't have played out those 6 months at sea well enough to know if I am friend with any of them yet. Not enough to ask for money. Give me a few minutes to see what I can do.
I'd probably ask Chip but we are at the table.
>>541664
Whisper to her.
"Lady Heart, I assume you recognise the usefulness of that little spell, don't you?"

541677

>>541663
"Well, I mostly while away the time with experiments, like the language spell. Made it last week."

>>541674
"Turning Arrow. And you are welcome to take the pot with you. I can make another."

541679

>>541677
"We could use a clever guy like you, y'know."

541680

>>541676
"I do, yes. But… I am not certain if it is worth the money or not. There could be other things that I could buy…"

>>541677
How much money would this cost?

541681

>>541670
"Well I understand your irritation at seeing us then. When I'm researching I lock the door and hope nopony knocks."
I giggle.
"Of course, they always do."

541683

>>541677
"Turning arrow, thanks for the hospitality after all the trouble we have caused ye." I shake his hoof.

"Also thanks for the offer but you can keep the pot." I nod.

541686

>>541680
"It's a relatively cheap way to buy safe containment of prisoners. Or defuse dangerous situations."

541688

>>541679
"I'm not interested in marching to war, but I appreciate the offer."

>>541680
You haven't even bartered!

>>541681
"Well, the door WAS locked! You are right, though."

>>541683
"Good travels then. Your friends are certainly whispering a lot."

541689

>>541688
"How much would this scroll cost, mister Arrow? And how many times could it be used?"

541690

>>541688
"We have something in common then.
These ruffians always get in. I should get new locks."

541695

>>541688
"You don't need to. You could stay on the ship and have all the resources you can ever want to conduct those experiments! We have some powerful mages I bet you'd love to have a chat with too!"

541696

>>541688
"Are they?" I look at the others direction.
"I take it that it is rude to do that kind of action in front of the host here in this country." I look at him.

541697

>>541695
"Hmmmm…. that could work, we could use another good man to help us." I nod at Emrille.

541698

>>541689
"A single use scroll? Oh, I don't know, it would be a considerable effort on my part. Let's say… forty thousand songs?"

You have 8.7 doubloons or 435 bits or 43500 songs.

>>541695
"I'd much rather stay here. I appreciate it, though."

541699

>>541690
"I apparently need one, too."

541701

>>541698
"One guy knows age magic. He even made an awesome discovery with it."

541702

>>541698
"Single use?
Oh no, I think you misunderstood my request.
We are looking for a reusable one."

541703

>>541698
I cough.
"That seems rather costly for a single use spell. Are you certain you counted correctly?"

541704

>>541699
"Uh…if I may ask…this spell you used on this mare…where did you learn it or did you manufacture it yourself?"

541705

>>541702
"You're looking for a magic item… it would take too long to create with your time table."

>>541703
"Well, make a counter-offer. But I don't have any competition that I know of."

>>541704
"I made it with her help."

>>541701
"No thank you."

541706

>>541705
"Even one with the basic version of the spell?"

541708

>>541706
"Basic version?"

541709

>>541705
"Why not create a reusable version for that generous price?"

541710

>>541708
"The unmodified variant.
Just what you are using on your mare."

541711

>>541705
"C'mon! You'd fucking love it!"
Shrug.
"But I guess if you want to waste your potential to just screwing a mare…"

541716

>>541711
I look at her glumly.

541717

>>541705
I look at her.
"How nice."

541718

She is standing with a vague smile on her face, waiting to refill cups

541722

541723

I nod.
"Very well, I understand."
Get up.
"Thank you very kindly for your hospitality. But we should continue our journey now."

541725

>>541718
"You could do that on the ship too, y'know."

541726

>>541720
"You make lovely tea."
I smile at her.

541730

>>541718
>>541720
"Riiight. I love magic and all, but I think we should just go. Wasting daylight here."

541735

>>541722
"I'll try to make a reusable version for one hundred twenty thousand songs then. You can come back and pick it up in a week. I want half payment up front."

>>541723
"Good luck to you. I sincerely hope you have a pleasant journey and you fare well in Awa."

>>541725
"To tell you the truth, I can't make that decision. It's not up to me. That's why I've been turning you down, sorry."

>>541730
"Good fortune!"

541737

>>541735
"If it's not up to you, then who decides for you, huh? Your pretty little maid?"

I WAS RESEARCHING YOU WHORE
CAN'T YOU READ THE SIGN
I think as you come into my workplace.
Full of cauldrons and boiling potions and smoky test tubes.
"Hey Tela, how are you?"

541827

>>541823
RESEARCHING A BETTER WAY TO SUCK DICKS?
"Just fine. … fucking hell, look at this setup you've got! Whose cock did you suck to get permission for all this?"

541834

>>541827
"Abilio made sure I got all equipment I needed.
And I didn't suck anything for it, you can be assured of it."

541836

>>541834
I snicker.
"Sounds like he likes you then. You make any crazy potions yet?"

541842

>>541836
"That depends on your definition of crazy.
This extract of wolfspore combined with some ginger, I bet I'll be able to extract the pure element with a 90% purity this time!"
Look at you with a wide grin.

541843

>>541842
"The element of wolfspore?"

541845

>>541843
"No, silly, the chlorobenzene's inside it."

541846

>>541845
"I'm not an alchemist! What does that mean?"

541851

>>541846
"It's a special element within the juice of the wolfspores, I'm trying to separate it completely from the rest of the juice. It's quite complicated. I have never done a completely pure sample."

541852

>>541851
"What are you going to use it for though? What's the point?"

541853

>>541852
"It's more a bit of practice really. It's a good test of one's abilities as an alchemist."

541862

>>541853
"… Oh. So it's like practicing a spell then. Or practicing sword moves. Gotcha."

541865

>>541862
I nod.
"You need do spells often to keep in shape.
It is no different with alchemy."

541869

>>541865
"… So… can you make rum yet?"

541881

>>541869
"Rum? It is not that hard, Tela, it will take some time, and I'm not sure whet quality it will be. But if we had a good amount of sugar, yeast and clean water, we could give it a try."

541884

>>541881
I grin.
"Fuck yeah! I support that fully!"

541887

>>541884
"Let's make sure to gather a good amount of sugar and yeast then, next time we make land.
Of course, this will take some time. I've heard rum becomes better as it ages, I haven't drunk any yet myself but, well as a pirate, I have to at least try it right?'

542077

>>541887
"You'll fucking love it, I bet. Gives a nice buzz."
I smirk.
"Just don't drink too much of it, alright? Can't have you walkin' around with your head in the clouds all the time."

542078

>>542077
"If I drink rum, I'm a real pirate right?"

542079

>>542078
"Takes more than that to be a pirate. You need to know your way around a fight and around the ship too. You ever fight ponies? Brawled? Use your magic to attack someone?"

542080

>>542079
"Uh….I've never been in a brawl before. It seems so messy."

542081

>>542080
"Ever had to defend yourself against a pony attacking you?"

542082

>>542081
"Yes, some ponies in Vanhoover tried to rob me once! But I chased them off with some greek fire."

542083

>>542082
"Some what?"

542084

>>542083
"It's a chemical that explodes and is extremely hard to douse. I carry it for emergencies."

542085

>>542084
"Well shit, alright. I think I've heard of it before, but I thought it was some kind of myth. That's good though. What about ships? Do you know your way around a ship?"

542086

>>542085
"I've been on a ship before…but not one this big. And I don't know anything about working on it. I just make potions."

542087

>>542086
"Pirates are usually sailors, so they know how these ships work, what their parts are and how to handle them in battle or during a storm. Not to mention all the equipment and tools there are."
Open up my bag and rummage around for a while before taking out my old sextant.
"Ever seen this thing before?"

542088

>>542087
"No…what is that?"

542089

>>542088
"It's a sextant, piece of naval equipment people on board these ships use to determine angles between two objects. It's used for navigation and shit. There's a lot of these kind of tools, so don't think a compass alone will get you around."

542090

>>542089
I look it over.
"How does it work?"

542091

>>542090
"You compare the angle of the sun, the moon or the pole star to the horizon to figure out what your latitude is. I bet Abilio and his mare have a bunch of these things. It's not really all that useful without sea charts or star charts, y'know."

542092

>>542091
"Ugh….I didn't know being a pirate was this hard!"

542093

>>542092
"It's not just being a pirate, it's being a sailor! My uh… mother taught me this stuff."

542094

>>542093
I look the sextant over.
"Is she a pirate too?"

542095

>>542094
"Ha! No, on the contrary. She and my dad serve in the Equestrian navy as officers on board of a ship called the HMS Defiance. I was raised there… to become one of them too. I ended up running away instead."

542096

>>542095
I perk my ears.
"Wow…that's….do they know what you're doing?"

542097

>>542096
Shake my head.
"I don't think so. Haven't seen or spoken to them after I left. Don't even know if they still serve or not."
Rub my neck awkwardly.
"Not something I'm really proud of but… I doubt they'd want to hear from me again anyway. I was a rebellious kid who couldn't deal with the all the discipline and rules."

542098

>>542097
"What kid isn't? It's pretty bad of them if they don't want to see you because of that."

542099

>>542098
"Eh… they've probably forgotten about me anyway."

542100

>>542099
Put my hoof around her.
"If they can't see what a good daughter they had, then that's their loss."

542101

>>542100
I smirk.
"Don't go all mellow on me, I promise I won't start sobbing.

"You're my friend. That's what friends are for."

542103

>>542107
My voice breaks a little.
"It's hard….the last thing I told her…was that I hated her."

542109

>>542108
"We all say dumb shit sometimes."

542110

>>542109
"I shouldn't have done that. If I had known…"

542111

A couple miles outside of the village you notice a small force of Neighponese soldiers headed the opposite way, no doubt to respond to a house breaking summons.

You continue on for several more miles before you come to a fork in the road. Favoring the direct route, you travel onwards undeterred until you come to a great sign. It is in Neighponese. The route up ahead does indeed look particularly dark: the trees have grown together extremely densely, making it hard to stray from the path, and in some places not a single ray of sunlight penetrates.

Happy Puzzle translates:

"Beware! Fae tricksters ahead."

542125

>>542121
There are any number of fairy tales you recall. Some place fae as malicious spirits, others as benevolent ones. But the most popular stories place them as neutral tricksters and protectors of the forest. They like illusion magic and petty tricks like theft or misdirection more than direct conflict.

Follow him.
"What, are you scared? Is that why I should hold your hoof?"

542159

>>542152
It is too dark to gather any useful information. You take another step forward and the ground collapses under you – a trap!

You fall for about thirty feet and land on a soft bed of leaves… gathering yourself, there are trails leading off in four different directions from here.

>>542154
>>542151
Something seems suspicious on this side of the river. Roll perception.

>>542156
>>542157
It becomes immediately obvious that the boulder is not even a boulder. It is a rigid skeleton of leaves that has been painted to appear to be a boulder. Upon touching it, the structure crumples and silences.

>>542155
The compass spins madly in both directions.

542160

>>542158
Shake my head.
"No miss Emrille, but there's magic at work here.
Holding hooves might make it harder for said magic to cut us off each other."

You realize that the path is not actually flat. It's… corkscrewed. If you were to walk twenty feet and look back, it would appear that Emrille was standing on the ceiling.

542163

>>542160
Snort, but take his hoof. He's the hexbreaker or what the shit.

Now move on.

542172

>>542166
The routes are as follows:

The first route is dark and nondescript save for the sound of birds.

The second route is dark, but up ahead there is a bonfire.

The third route is much better lit than the others. It leads to a cabin.

The fourth route appears to have large potholes in the path.

>>542167
You frown when you notice that while the path had been inclining for the last hundred feet, it is now declining. You come to an unmarked fork in the road.

>>542169
>>542170
It's unclear what the source of the magic is. Without a source, there's nothing to aim at. What you're doing in akin to a cat striking at the red laser dot instead of the laser pointer.

The path does seem to brighten slightly, though.

>>542165
>>542168
>>542171
You come to a monstrously sized pit. You can edge around it, but the trees grow quite closely. Roll dex if you want to navigate the edge without flying.

"Should we fly, miss Heart?"

542174

Or whatever that is.
If the path is curving around itself like that, the sky should be…

542175

"We should just set this forest on fire…"
Flutter up a bit, can I see anything?

If not, go right.

542182

You are able to create them through magic, aren't you?
But they might set fire to the whole forest just as well."

542183

>>542174
Curving opposite to the path…

>>542175
The canopy is quite thick. Do you wish to attempt to pierce it?

>>542176
>>542178
Light Heart edges along safely. Selena topples to fall in but she gracefully plucks her back out before she can fall. Something grumbles from within the pit when she is rescued.

>>542179
There is a faint sound of children singing here…

The path seems to end here, but the trees are not as thick. You could go off the road in any direction but southwest (where you came from).

>>542180
You hear a waterfall and a small pond ahead.

542184

>>542183
Eeep.
"T-thanks, miss Heart. I owe you."

542185

>>542183

Path continues?

542186

>>542183
Nah, that sounds like a bad idea.
"Shit is too thick to fly through."

542187

>>542183
Nothing in it. I see.
Then, what curves our world shoud be in the middle.

>>542187
The path below you breaks like a mirror and you fall directly down into a large pool of water.

>>542186
Flowing Tree cracked the path. Everything around you falls away. Down below you think you can make out a pool of water that he fell into.

Yes, which is a feat because you're not sure how you managed to do that with such large rope.

Yes, it appears there is a path on the other end of the pool. You'll have to cross it. It looks about six inches deep.

>>542226
There is something in the pool. It is about six inches deep.

Eventually you come to a large clearing. You hear Happy Puzzle's voice, but it isn't clear the direction it's coming from.

"Hi Light Heart! We got captured by Breezie Ponies! Pretty exciting, right! They want you to let their friend go!"

>>542236
Your candle seems much darker than usual, but it's enough to work your way down the stairs. Up ahead you see a fork in the road. One route appears to lead out of the forest, another appears to lead to a shrine.

542243

>>542239
There appears to be a fine rope here. Normally ropes decay in water.

542244

>>542237
The trees have grown too densely to skirt it. You could fly if you had wings. It may be possible to jump.

542245

>>542242
Look down the hole.
You could assume we do trivial stuff like this.

Hmmm… should I?
Fuck it, pull it out!

542251

Well let's see what's down there

542252

>>542245
>>542251
There is a rope ladder made of vine. It seems dark for about thirty feet then there's a bright light at the end of this vertical tunnel.

>>542246
>>542249
"Okay! One sec!"

There's silence for a few minutes.

"Okay, they want you to do ahead, and take three lefts at the next few forks! And then they'll let him go, and then you let her go, and then I can go!"

>>542250
The rope appears to be tied down to two anchors in the pool of water, but the arc created by lifting the rope is like a doorway. You can see through it to the outside of the woods.

>>542248
You recognize the symbol of Laughter all over the shrine. There are little wish notes left all over the shrine in extremely small print. You can't read them: they are in Neighponese.

>>542247
You fall flat on your face in the water. Fortunately there is nothing special about it.

542253

>>542252
Down the ladder it is.

542254

>>542252
Dangit. fine, I'll just walk across and continue down the path.

542255

>>542252
Good thing I have wings.
Follow the rope, flying, keeping a hoof on it just to be safe.

542256

>>542252
Can I imprint the small writing using some paper and a pencil? If not copy it.
Also keep a look out of my surroundings.

542257

>>542252
"I do not think they understand. I want everypony who was with us out of this forest. I am not quite in the mood to have my patience tested. You still have yet to show your face, miss Puzzle."

They're loose notes so you can pick them up. You grab a few for posterity.

>>542254
You come to another crossroads. To the left, the path is brick. To the right, the path is submerged in shallow water.

>>542258
You exit the woods through a narrow gap in the trees. As you drop the rope to go through, the 'gate' collapses. You wander out for twenty feet or so and notice that Emrille and Flowing Tree are nearby.

>>542257
"I'm tied up right now… literally! They want you to come over here where we are to trade! You have to take three lefts! And stay on the path!"

542261

>>542260
>>542257
"What do you think, miss Heart? It doesn't seem like we have a choice…"

542262

>>542260
…On which side of the woods?

"Miss Emrille, I do think this would be the best moment to use a flare."

542263

>>542260
I'll head down the brick path.

542264

>>542260
"… Very well. But if this is a ruse, I will be very displeased."
Let's do as told.

>>542261
"Let us follow their instructions."

542265

>>542262
That is not particularly clear yet.

Tela is nearby.

542266

>>542260
Well now that is done, perhaps make a gesture as a sign of respect to this shrine, aint bad being extra careful specially in lands where foreign gods has absolute rule.

Now keep the prints and go back to the fork of the road and go to the forest.

Ah, now we're getting somewhere! Investigate inside the shrine.

542283

"Nice to see you are all in one piece, Lady Tela."

542284

You proceed down the path and come to a fork in the road. Left and right.

You appear to be facing the same direction you were when you entered the forest.

You tear up the floors.

>>542280
The doors are locked. Something loud is rumbling inside.

542285

"That forest was fucking weird! Lots of illusions and traps!"

This is too relative.
Am I facing said direction when looking at the forest or when giving my back to it?
>>542285
"Indeed. The world stopped existing, for a while."

542290

>>542284
Besides the broken floor and the door I passed through, are there any obvious ways outside of this shrine?

542291

>>542284
Okay, that might not be good. What's this a shrine to?

542292

>>542288
>>542289
"Even my compass was going crazy!"

542293

>>542286

You come to another clearing that by all rights should be overlapping with the previous one, though you detect no indication of that. Mocking Wark is tied up in the middle of the clearing looking annoyed.

"They said they'll let me go when you let her go!"

>>542289
When your back is at it.

>>542290
No, just the door and the floor. Now that you have reached the dirt, it would be trivial to leave by digging. The door also looks weak, you could force it easily.

>>542291
It is a shrine of laughter.

542295

>>542292
"At least we're out.
Seen any others?"

542296

>>542292
"Glad to see you were resourceful enough to navigate yourself out of it.
Now I'm confident the others will, aswell."
Smile calmly.
Sit down and wait for the others.

542297

>>542293
"That wasn't the deal. You should be let go first."

542298

>>542293
"Yes indeed."
Walk over and cut his ropes.
Then cut the ropes of the breezie and let her go.

542299

>>542293
Well, I'll knock. "Excuse me? Can you understand me?"

As much as I am dog and love the dirt, I dont want to look like mess in front of them mare's man. Got to think of the chicks bra.

So lets force that door open!
'1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

542301

>>542295
"Nope, you're the first ones I see."

>>542296
I frown.
"Are you saying I'm dumb?"

542302

>>542297
>>542298
Happy Puzzle gives you a cheerful grin as she is lowered from the roof of the canopy by vines. She's tied up, and there's a Breezie on her back riding her down.

The Breezie you freed departs speaking rapidly in Neighponese.

HP adds: "He said he'd lead us out! So that we don't try anything tricky if he just told us where the exit was!"

>>542299
>>542300
Chip slams open the door, sending Hircus flying to the ground.

542303

>>542297
"Which is why I am cutting his ropes first."

542304

>>542301
Brush up beside.
"You sort of are."
Wrap my tail around your's.
"Let's hold tails so we won't lose each other again."

542305

>>542301
Shake my head.
"I'm saying you are not a hex breaker.
If a non hex-breaker like yourself has been able to navigate out of the forest, then there is a chance the others could aswell.
I'm actually impressed by your might, to make it through in so little time."

542306

>>542302
Good to see she's okay.

542307

>>542302
"I am not sure how much we can trust them… but they did just keep to their word. Very well. Good to see you are both in one piece."
I smile.

542308

>>542302
"Ha!"

"Ha… ha… hey!" I look at Hircus

542309

>>542302
>>542306
>>542308
>he
"…Ow." Sit up and rub my head ruefully. "Glad to see you guys. This forest is really giving me a headache. Which just got quite a bit worse."

542310

>>542304
Smack her ass.
"You're the dumbass without the brains here."

>>542305
"Thought so."
I huff.

542311

>>542306
>>542307
This Breezie looks a bit tougher than the other one. He says something in Neighponese.

HP: "He says he'll capture all of us if we try anything funny!"

>>542309
You only see Chip. Selena is NOT with Chip.

542312

>>542310
Just snicker.

542313

542314

>>542309
"Guys? There is only just one of me, I was about to ask you where are the others."
Offer my hand and help him stand up.

542315

>>542311
Tougher?
I chuckle.
"Oh I am certain he would."

542318

>>542314
Accept it and get back on my feet. "Sorry. Guess I must have been seeing two of you. Still, if we managed to find each other, maybe we can find the others."

542319

>>542315
Tougher in the way that you would compare a civilian to a trained warrior. He's still tiny and cute, but he wears armor instead of nothing at all.

She translates something and he gives a nod of approval before taking off to guide you out.

542320

>>542311
"Hmmmp, well they did a lot of funny things to us!"

542321

>>542319
Oh.
"This forest was quite dreadful indeed. Why do these breezies insist on making it so… hostile?"

542324

>>542318
"That is what I am doing for the past couple of minutes… or hours. I dont know how much time has passed already after I inspect that shrine over there."

"Well we must not waste any more time. Who knows what is happening to the others as of now."

542326

>>542319
>>542324
"Alright then, let's get going." Where to next?

542327

>>542320
>>542321
She asks him something, then translates:

"They're protecting the forest from trespassers!"

He glides gently over to a branch, then jerks on a twig. The whole forest seems to disappear, leaving only a single pair of trees. Between those two trees, you see the outside of the forest.

>>542326
>>542324
The forest around you suddenly vanishes. Not far from here, you see Light Heart and Selena standing near a pair of trees. Between the two trees you see the outside of the forest. Everything else is black void.

542328

>>542326
"Lets follow the forest trail, that is the best idea I got. Lets go."

542329

>>542327
"What? There they are Hircus."

Run towards Selena and Light Heart.
"Hey There!"

542330

>>542327
>>542328
"…Well, I suppose our companions found a solution." Go over to Selena and Light Heart.

542331

>>542327
"I see. Because it is their home, I assume? Understandable, I suppose. Tell him he has our thanks. And… ask him what his function is, please. I am intrigued."

>>542329
>>542330
Nod at them.
"Mister Chip. Mister Hircus."

542332

>>542331
"Where have you been? And also any idea whats happening? Where is Emrille and Tree?"

542333

>>542332
Nod at the breezie.
"The breezie ponies were protecting their homes against trespassers by employing illusions. We managed to convince them otherwise."

542334

>>542331
She scrunches in confusion in the next translation.

"Uh… I'm not sure… a colossus hunter? That's the closest I can translate it."

542335

>>542331
"Evening ladies. Mind if I ask what just happened?"

542336

>>542334
"A… colossus? That sounds rather unnerving."

542337

>>542333
"What? This pipsquick here?" I look at the thing.

"What the hell is that?"

542338

>>542336
"I think he means us!"

542339

>>542329
>>542330
"Hello."

>>542334
"Collossus hunter?"

542340

>>542337
"A breezie pony, mister Chip."

>>542335
>>542333

>>542338
"… Ah."
I chuckle.
"I suppose that makes some sort of sense. We are rather big compared to them."

542341

>>542339
"Uhrmm… well hello there." I smile at Selena.
"Thank the sea's you are safe, I was worried for a moment there."

>>542340
"Breezie? Right." I just look at it with distrust.
"Anyway, where is Ms.Puzzle?"

542342

>>542341
"With me, not to worry."

542343

>>542339
>>542340
"Any sign of the rest of our companions?"

542344

>>542343
"You are the first group we encountered since leaving."

542345

>>542341
>>542343
"Yes, we haven't seen anypony but you 2 yet."

542346

>>542345
"Is that true, well no worries. Chip is here to protect you lass in times of need."

>>542342
>>542338
Approach Ms.Puzzle.
"Hey there lion, I need your help."
I show her the imprinted paper.
"Can you tell me what is written in here?"

542350

So… the others?
And this breezie?

542353

>>542350
Waiting on the outside of the forest.

542354

>>542346
"They're… wishes for good luck and good humor."

>>542350
There are no signs of the others. The Breezie says something.

"He said… our other friends are outside the forest already."

542355

>>542354
"Well, I think we'd better get out of here then."

542356

>>542354
"Well then, I believe we should be going." Nod to the breezie. "Thank you for your assistance."
Now, out of the forest to find our friends!

542357

>>542354
"Good luck and Good humor, I see. I found that inprimted on a shrine near here." I nod at her.

"Dont tell me you are the one who has written it."

>>542355
>>542356
"I agree, lets go then!"

Lead the way.

542358

>>542357
"No, I didn't write this!"

>>542355
>>542356
>>542357
You exit the woods. The others are here.

>>542350
You're the only one left with the Breezie. You and your followers.

542359

>>542354
"Ah. … Miss Puzzle, could you ask him whether he is interested in tagging along for the time being? These creatures do intrigue me."

542360

>>542358
"Oof, I'm glad we're out of there."

542361

>>542358
"Oh! Its a shrine dedicated to the Gods of laughter, I thought you have visited it since that lost in the forest business and stuff."

542362

>>542360
"As I am glad that everyone is safe, now we can continue past this place and unto Awa"

542363

>>542358
"Well, that was an interesting experience. Is everyone all right?"

542364

>>542359
"I don't know if I can make it as convincing as you!"

Roll Command if you want to try to recruit.

>>542361
"I never saw it!"

542365

>>542364
"Well, I see." I just shrug.

542366

>>542364
I chuckle.
"Simply copy my words, miss Puzzle."
Command.

"Lady Heart.
We were beginning to worry."

542379

>>542375
>>542370
>>542368
"Well I am glad to see you three. I thought we lost there for a moment.:"
"Now that everyone is here, we just need to collect ourselves and continue the journey. If we dont find a town after this we will make camp after this long journey."

542380

>>542379
Roll for next encounter. Last encounter of day 1.

542381

>>542370

"Yes, let's move on."

542382

>>542373
"Understandable, but it hardly seems they would be lost without him. I am certain his fellow breezies will manage through the use of wit. Besides, where we are going, there will be plenty of colossuses to hunt."
Chuckle.

>>542375
"Oh, there hardly was any need to."

Roll #1 2 = 2

He gives a look of bemusement.

542395

>>542391
"Gaah.. more climbing."
Is this even the right way?"

542396

"…We are nearing the center of the country."

542397

>>542391
Keep walkin'

542398

>>542391
"So… why use you as a translator then? Nevermind. I would still like to invite him to come along. Breezies are quite unique after all, it would be an interesting experience. It will be a cultural exchange if anything."

Roll #1 9 = 9

542399

He thinks for a time.

"Maybe just for a while."

With that, he floats up and settles into HP's hair. She giggles.

542405

>>542403

>>542419
Hm, if you're clever you might locate a safe spot part of the way up to teleport to.

>>542416
HP: "Hey… this place looks familiar…"

>>542421
There's no path, you'll have to climb.

>>542418
You're not sure where to start – you watch Hircus leap gracefully stone to stone.

>>542415
You cover the first thirty feet in a few quick hops before you get stumped – it's steeper here. You'll need hoofholds.

542423

>>542422
"Who it is then."
I smile.
"Good to have you with us."

Look at HP Lovepone.
"Does it? Any details?"

542424

She frowns. "I am pretty sure I've been here before. Maybe I'll recognize it when we get up to the top."

542425

"Flowing Tree.
How come you left your home, fae, and what should I call you?
"
I could just… CARVE A PATH WITH M MIGHT!
No I actually can't, I'm not Maud.
Keep climbing.
>>542424
"Have you?
To a town on the side of a mountain, with no roads leading to it?
One would think they don't like outsiders."

Let out a whistle.
"Hey, anypony speak the language?"

542433

"I don't. We'll have to wait for Mr Tree and Puzzle."

542436

>>542426
Aha! You see several spots the whole way up that you can use.

>>542427
You topple down. Fortunately Light Heart breaks your fall when you collapse onto her.

>>542429
You try to fly but Hircus falls on top of you.

You climb the rest of the way up in one go! So fast you don't hear him reply.

542440

>>542436
Well, that's embarrassing.

"Sorry about that. Must have lost my grip."

After a series of teleports, you finally reach the top. Unless this is a one, in which case you become a horrible Crystal Pony-Goat hybrid monster. '1d10'

>>542442
You bound up and get to the top in no time.

>>542443
You leave behind your followers and fly up.

Roll #1 6 = 6

542454

>>542452
I know where this is going.
So…
Let's wait for the others by the entrance of town.
Anypony around?

542455

>>542452
That's better. Now that I'm here, what's this town like?

542456

>>542452
"That takes care of that!"

542457

>>542453
Wark starts climbing up the lower area.

>>542455
This is a very small town. Residences built into the mountain side, a little temple, and a mine.

>>542454
There are ponies coming in and out of the mine. An elderly pony is meditating on the steps of the temple.

There are foals playing in the streets.

542458

>>542456
>>542457
"Not bad… now someone get us someplace to sleep."

542459

>>542457
"How the hell do these ponies even reach this place?"

542460

>>542457
Step towards one of the foals.
"Does this place have an inn, kid?"

542464

>>542460
They stop running around, but he shakes his head.

"Um, no, but sometimes they take in travelers at the shrine. You should ask there."

>>542462
She leaps expertly up to the lower reaches down below. Both of them are now about a third of the way up.

>>542461
You can't even get up as far as they are!

542465

>>542460
I fly down.
"What did he say?"

>>542464
I smile at the filly.

542466

>>542464
Do I need to throw a rope down for Chip or something?

542467

>>542464
>>542460
"What'ya saying?"

542468

>>542464
Nod to him and off to the shrine.
>>542465
"The shrine might be out best bet for the night."

>>542468
"What shrine?"

542476

>>542473

It's hard to say because the door is not open.

542482

"It has rooms?"

"I do not know. Now please, stand back. I do not know if the monks would take kindly to an intrusion by foreigners."
>>542481
Knock.

How did that even…

Oh dear… just help him along by pure wingpower then. The other pegasi sure are kind to not help out.

"I'll go check on the others quickly."
Fly up and look where they are.

542491

>>542488
Keep helping him along. Take it easy. If I have a heart attack here…

Roll #1 1 = 1

542492

>>542488
"Hey! Assholes! I am in a little trouble over here!"

542494

>>542490
Chip is at the bottom. Mocking Wark is about a third of the way up.

>>542491
You have a heart attack here. But he catches you at least and goes for your pills, but finds the bottle empty.

"Hey. Yer outta pills, lassie."

542495

>>542488
>>542492
Damnit. Alright, I'm headed back down for him. '1d10+1'

Roll #1 6 + 1 = 7

542497

>>542494
Knock at the temple's doors.

542499

>>542494
>>542492
I fly down.
"Don't worry, mister Chip, I'll help you."
Try to fly Chip up '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

542500

>>542494
How… why is it empty? It wasn't empty before…
Try to calm myself.

Roll #1 2 = 2

542502

Well, let's just kick back and wait for the ching chong to talk.

542503

>>542495
>>542499
:"Ah thank the sea's. I realy hate climbing."
Also try to do my best with my broken hand to climb up
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

542506

>>542500
You emptied it out to fit Breezie in there. You still have the pills in your bag.

>>542499
You take Chip back up to the Summit.

>>542497
The meditating pony speaks up without turning around.

"I am the shrine keeper. You are looking for housing for the night?"

542508

>>542506
Walk around, facing him, and bow slowly.
Raise my head again.
"We are."

542510

>>542506
>>542503
"There you go Mister Chip."
Fly back down for Wark.
"Mister Wark, may I fly you to the top?"

542512

>>542506
Well then, I guess I'll just rejoin the group.

542513

>>542506
I did not.
I considered doing so, but instead opted for tying the breezie up and carrying her with my wing.

Roll #1 8 = 8

542514

>>542510
"Arright. Make it quick."

You take him up as well.

>>542508
"I can offer you shelter if you assist me with some chores around the shrine. I am old and it is getting harder to do them on my own."

542515

>>542513
Those Breezies must have moved them into your bag as a prank, then.

Anyway, Wark finds them there and stuffs one in your job.

>>542512
Good thinking

542517

>>542510
>>542512
"Gaahh… thanks to you two. I've broken my thumb climbing up, sorry for the trouble."
"Also the name calling and stuff."

I then look around.
"Where are we?"

542520

>>542514
"Here you go, Mister Wark."
Anypony else needs my help?

542521

>>542515
"T-Thank you."

542522

>>542514
"Of course.
We would be honored to help your shrine."

542524

>>542517
Shrug. "It happens. Not sure where this place is, but it seems peaceful and relatively modest."

542527

>>542522
"What kind of help?"

542528

>>542527
That was supposed to be neighponese, I doubt the old pony understands equestrian.

542529

>>542520
Nope, that's everyone.

>>542521
He gives you a little smile but says nothing.

542530

>>542522
In neighponese pls.

542531

542533

>>542524
"Peaceful, quiet…. "

I then glare at the town.
"Suspiciously peaceful and suspiciously quiet."

>>542529
"What does the town look like? Any qt neighpon around?

542534

>>542529
Put the damned pills back into the bottle. Rejoin the others.
"My, that was quite the experience. Thank you all very kindly for being as considerate to wait on us."

542537

>>542534
Nod to her.
"There's shelter to be found in the shrine of the Elements, Lady Heart.
The guardian has offered logging for the night in exchange of help with his daily chores."

542539

>>542522
"I need firewood chopped to keep the building heated, and help repaneling the paper walls. And someone to pump water from the town well or we will not drink tonight. Since you have a lot of hands… help pounding the rice as well."

>>542533

This is a very small town. Residences built into the mountain side, a little temple, and a mine.

There are two young fillies playing outside. There are also older ponies headed in and out of the mine, and an elderly pony at the shrine.

542543

>>542539
>hands
Nod in slow agreement.
"Seems fair."

542544

>>542539
>>542533
>>542533
I guide you all to the shrine, to Flowing.

542545

>>542537
"Sounds quite fair. We accepts his offer."

542549

>>542545
>>542544
>>542543
>>542533
Performing chores is a trivial matter for you.

You help him with his work and bed down for the night. Two days left of travel begin tomorrow.

#Pause

542550

>>542539
Alright, quietly follow the group for now.

542552

>>542522
>>542537
"What kind of chores?"

542553

>>542539
I smile at the sight and stand up.

>>542544
>>542549
Follow Selena.
"Hey thank you for helping me up that ridge, with you and Hircus help I might get stuck there all day."

542556

>>542552
>>542545
Nod in aknowledgement.
"There is quite the list of tasts, I suggest deciding on it now.
Firewood has to be cut, the paper walls must be treated, water must be milled from the town's well and rice has to be pounded, for tonight's dinner."
>>542549
Grand.
Traditional neighponese housing, how lovely!

542558

>>542553
"Everybuck has trouble with climbing at first. You get better by learning from your bruises, and eventually it becomes second nature."

542562

>>542558
"Indeed yes, this old bones are really giving me trouble already. My thumb broked after trying climbing a couple of times."

542567

>>542549
How lovely.

542570

>>542562
How old does Chip actually look?

542573

>>542570
Looks fourty to fifty but is just early 30

542575

>>542562
>>542573
"Well, you'll get better in time. Besides, I'm sure you're good at something other than climbing, right?"

542578

>>542575
Fighting, repairing ships, and a bit of cooking. Oh dont forget swooning the ladies." I wink.

542582

>>542578
"Seems to be a lot of fellows trying to do that." I chuckle. "So, any luck with that?"

542589

>>542582
I smile with confidence.
"In time my friend in time."

I then look.
'Hmmm you are quite new to the fleet are you."

542591

>>542589
"Yup. Hired just recently to act as your scout for this mission. What happened with the last one?"

542596

>>542591
"The last one? Oh that guy."
I think for a moment.

"He really didnt give me his name, and he is cloaked so we didnt get to see his face. He is really suspicious and treathen to blow up the ship as part of some act and as one of those guys who repairs the remaining three ship I cant have that shit happening."
"I think Abilio or Ms. September kicked him out after evaluating him for awhile thats why he was gone. Dont know what happened to him afterwards."

542603

>>542596
"Huh. That's a rather strange story. I hope you're not expecting me to be like him."

542614

>>542603
"If you ask me he is a strange pony… or is it a goat or mule? I dont know, he is cloaked after all I cant tell."

"Hmmm… why do you think I will expect that from you?"

542620

>>542614
"Because I was hired as his replacement? In case you've forgotten, I was hired as a lockpicker and a thief. I'm not what most would call 'trustworthy.'"

542631

>>542620
"Ah, at least I know who you are. That guy has the signs of trouble all over him. I better trust someone who I know is a thief than someone who proclaims he is a theif under all that cloak. He maybe an enforcer or a spy under all of that, who knows."

"Besides Abilio and the others trust you enough to hire you, why would I not trust the commodore's judgement aye?"

542633

>>542631
"Aye, I'll give you that. So, anything I need to know about the rest of the group?"

542645

>>542633
"Hmmm….. so far there is Ciddir that smith who can craft life out of something that is alive… or whatever that nonsense means. There is Ms. September the leader of the ship where I am stationed, Rusty Wrench a kind old buffalo who is also a ship builder like me and Face, the diplomatic officer who also has good taste for wenches."

"All of them are good shipmates by their own right. I mean a ship wouldnt move without the crew who resides in it. aye?"

542647

>>542645
"I wouldn't know. I don't get many opportunities to work with a group. I must say, it's a refreshing change of pace."

542654

>>542647
"Ah I see, well do not worry. You'll get plenty of chances. The sea is full of opportunities and once we get that Marquee we will be able to take our slice of the action in these regions." I grin.

542768

After that talk with Hircus, I began to sit down next to the fire throwing bits of sticks on it to make it grow.

542779

>>542768
"Hello again, mr Chip."

542783

>>542779
Looks to her direction.
"Just the pony I was looking for, come and join me by the fire. I'd like to show you something."

542785

>>542783
I sit by the fire.
"What is it?"

542786

>>542785
Show her the broken thumb.
"Something I got from climbing up this place, why made such a goddamn town in such a rough spot. Bad for trade if you ask me."

542787

>>542786
"Have you had it looked at by a doctor, mr Chip?"

542789

>>542787
"Say do you got some tonic to minmize the pain? Puzzle is asleep and I dont want to wake up that lion."

542791

>>542789
"Wait, this might help."
Give you a small bottle.

542792

>>542791
Pick it up.
"Well lets see if this thing helps."
'1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

542794

>>542792
>>542791
"Gaahh… where did you learn all of this herbalst cra…. magic? Stuff." I grin.

542795

>>542794
"From my mother."

542798

>Thread not updating
Damn it.

Evening?

542802

>>542795
"I am sure your mother is lovely." I nod.

542804

>>542802
"She was…Ponies used to say we look just alike."

542806

>>542798
"Good evening Captain, come and warm yourself up."

542811

>>542804
Stroke her mane lightly.
"Pink mane, blue coat? Have I got that right? I take it you got that eyes from your father aye?"

542812

>>542806
"Captain? I am flattered you think so highly of me, but I have yet to reach that rank."

542815

>>542811
I push your paw away gently.
"Yes, like that. I never knew my dad, so I wouldn't know."

542819

>>542815
"Oh dear… I am sorry to hear that."

542821

>>542815
"Well thats a bit of a downer, reminds me of my situation back then. Except it being colder and all." I gulp.

>>542812
"Well my mistake Captain?" I grin.
"Wait… am I ticking you off or are you seriously flattered? I am trying to enliven the mood here you see."

542824

>>542819
>>542821
"About a year ago, I finally gathered the courage to ask my mom about it. We argued, she told me that he was a bad influence, I told her…that I hated her and ran off."
I sniffle.
"And later that night, she got mugged and killed."
I grab a hoofkerchief and dry my eyes.

542825

>>542821
I chuckle.
"You should know me better by now, mister Chip. All I am saying is that I am still first officer, not captain. I do hope to become captain one day, but for now I remain at my current rank."

542827

>>542824
My smiles fadens slightly.
"Ah… I am very sorry to hear that, miss Springleaf. I… understand how it feels to lose your family so swiftly."

542832

>>542824

>>542825
"True about that, but remember that if we got lucky in this Privateering thing that Abilio has planned, we might be able to get some good booty to buy a new ship. If not perhaps capture a ship for ourselves."

I throw some firewood.
"If anyone is deserving to captain a ship for this fleet I cannot think anyone better than….."
"Myself." I give a mischievous grin.

"and of course you too Ms. Light Heart."

>>542824
I frown upon hearing the story.
"Well, that is just downright sad. My humble apologies for delving into your past Ms. Selena. I am sorry."

I bow my head.

542836

>>542827
"Do you, miss Heart?"

>>542832
"It's okay. I'm sorry, I'm being silly. I should just get over it…"

542842

>>542836
I nod.
"During one of my homecomings I learned that my parents, my sister and my brother-in-law were deceased while I was away. It was… unpleasant."

>>542832
"We shall see. As first officers, we are quite high on the list of potential candidates."

542848

>>542836
"As a dog of the sea, I learned from a young age that one must know how to accept things in life. I lost a very good friend and a very good commodore to a traitor, but one must not wallow in sadness lest you'll be trap in one's stupor for the rest of ye life."

…..
"That is why I treasure that chest you know."

>>542842
"That is true indeed."

Then stop to hear the story.
"Well that is unpleasant news indeed…. "

542850

>>542842
>>542848
I then turn to LH.
"Say…. any news on that altar?" I scratch my head.

542853

>>542842
"That must have been so hard…"

>>542848
"I don't know how to do that…"

542857

>>542853
I think for a moment with a bit of confusion on my face.
"I am not the best consultant about facing the past, nor am I confident… I mean really."

"But I can teach you what I know." I said with a smile.

542858

>>542848
"Yes… but the ones responsible for it are now dead. It is comforting to know at the very least that justice was served."

>>542850
"Nothing yet, I'm afraid. But mark my words, I shall retrieve it."

>>542853
I nod.
"Quite. But I had ponies I could rely on during those harsh times. It eased the pain."

542860

>>542857
"Okay."
I look at you expectantly.

>>542858
"I was all alone after that…
I went to look for the bastards that did it."

542865

>>542860
"Did you find them?"

542867

>>542858
I nod at this before looking up again and lower my voice.
"You do know Nurse Heart correct? She or He really wants to go back to her old self. If you do find it, I would be glad if you tell me about it."

"As for the Nurse, I also like to talk to you about her employment… "

542868

>>542860
I then look back and smile.
"Ms. Selena."
"Do you know rum?"

542875

>>542865
I nod.
"After a while…in a bar. I found them by accident because I saw one of her jewels in a pawn shop…
They were freaks. They wore war paint on their faces to scare ponies.
I made up my mind to go into that bar and make them pay."

>>542868
"I haven't drunk much. But Tela asked me if I wanted to make some rum together with her."

542878

>>542867
"I did see her, yes. A shame he is so upset, we can always use more medical ponies."

>>542875
"And… did you make them pay, miss Springleaf?"

542880

>>542878
Lower my voice.
"I just like to tell you that once he is changed back to his old self, there is a large chance he will go off and leave the fleet. Curry and Summer has left and with both of them gone, I think Nurse Heart has little to no motivations left to stay. I am just warning you, just in case."

542881

>>542878
"I went there…but I was too scared. I was all alone…"

542882

>>542875
I turn and grin.
"If you and her made rum then tell me for I can make Bumbo out of it."

542885

>>542882
"What's…Bumbo?"

542887

>>542880
I nod.
"I see… I suppose you do have a point. I should speak to him about this matter, see if I can convince him otherwise."

>>542881
"Ah… well, no sense in risking your own neck either if the odds are not in your favor. I very much doubt your mother would have wanted you to do so."

542889

>>542887
"Would you have done it?"

542892

>>542889
"Hm… not on my own, no. You may have noticed already that I am not quite a fighter pony."

542893

>>542885
"Rum, Water, Sugar and Nutmeg or if not Orange juice then Boom! One of my favorite drinks in the sea, it taste better than Grog you know."

I then relax.
"That is what I know, how to drink and how to live Ms. Selena."
"That is what I can teach you." I smile.
"Well what I know that is."

542895

>>542892
"I'm not either.
I realized that then."

>>542893
"Well, it might be something to try at the ship."

542897

>>542887
"Oooh.. wait wait wait wait wait." I raise my hand.
"Just go careful on him, he is freaking out with the whole situation so my advice is to turn him first into a male form before speaking to him…. well unless you are confident that you can talk to him while he is in her current female form."

542902

>>542895
I then smile as I stare
"Nothing bad in trying out new things am I right? Besides you may find out it to be your liking."

542905

>>542895
"But… that does not mean I would leave it at that. I would find aid to help bring them down."

>>542897
"Not to worry, I know my way around words. I will do my best to manage."

542907

>>542905
With a lowered voice I nod.
"Understood. Thank you Ms. LightHeart."

542910

>>542905
"I asked the guard, they didn't do shit.
Probably too scared."

542912

>>542907
"My pleasure."

>>542910
"Ah, not atypical. But the ponies I usually ask to aid me are no guards either, of course."

542915

542918

>>542912
"Maybe I should have asked somepony else. Or been stronger."

542930

>>542918
"Which is why it is good that you did not engage them on your own. You are still alive. You have seen their faces and their cutie marks. One day, you may have the strength or wealth or influence to take them down once and for all."
I smile.
"Because you see, I, too, was unable to take down the group who were responsible for harming my family back when I first discovered their fate, yet today said group is no more. They were all hunted down and executed. Not by me, but by somepony else. And I am perfectly content knowing that they are dead while I live."

542932

>>542930
"Maybe…maybe one day."

542937

>>542932
I nod.
"When that day comes, you will have my assistance, miss Springleaf. That is a solemn promise."

542942

>>542902
"Thank you, miss heart."

>>542902
"Well I haven't even tried rum yet."

542952

>>542915
"Mr Chip?"

542953

>>542942
"I could not possibly let you face this alone after I myself received much needed help back in Dixie."

542954

>>542942
>>542952
"You should, it is a great drink I tell you. You really must ask Tela to teach you how to make one. By the barrels preferably."

I then ponder for a second.
"Say you and I drink after this, perhaps if you are able to hold your rum I may be able to tell the other captains about how good you are at holding yourself together."

542956

>>542954
Give him an amused look.
"You are not suggesting one needs to drink rum in order to belong to the fleet, are you? I have never so much as touched a drop of alcohol myself."

542957

>>542956
I look at her.
"Well you had a heart condition you know, so… well I just assumed it maybe bad to yer heart Ms. Lightheart."

542959

>>542957
I nod.
"Your assumption is correct. I do not think miss Selena should be forced into drinking, even if her heart allows it."

542962

>>542954
"That's a great idea. We could invite Tela as well. So I can learn how to drink properly like a pirate."

542966

>>542959
I raise an eyebrow.
"Well I am asking her, is there something wrong with that?"

I then look at Selena and to LightHeart.
"See, what did I tell ye."

>>542962
I laugh.
"Ohohoho, Tela is a good drinker. She outdrank me last time we had a session you know."

542971

>>542959
"I understand your concern, miss Light Heart. But I don't want to seem like a lightweight. Ponies respect you, I still need to earn some."

>>542966
"She did? Amazing."

542978

>>542971
I scratch my head.
"It is a bit embarrasing when I wake up to see both Tela and Emrille laughing at me for passing out but that is one of the many ways one earn both friends and respect in the fleet and that is to socialize and to have fun."

I stand up and stretch.
"So its decided then, perhaps once we ask Tela if she is game then we can do it after we got the Marquee."

542988

>>542978
"Well…I don't think I'll go that far."

542998

>>542988
"Its alright, you dont have to force yourself unto me or Tela." I wink
"If you feel you had too much then you just had to relax and have fun."

With that I stand up and stretching.
"I might say it is getting late, excuse me but I will leave you two ladies to your own devices. Goodnight."

543000

>>542998
Phrasing.
"Goodnight mister chip."

543014

>>542998
"Good night, mister Chip"

>>542971
I chuckle.
"Do trust me, the commodore and captains are more interested in other matters than merely drinking."

543020

>>543014
I sit down again.
"How did you become First Mate, miss Heart?"

543021

>>543000
>>543014
I nod as this as I wave and go to sleep.

Thanks for the afaff.

543040

>>543020
"When the Sirocco was added to the fleet, the previous commodore saw light in assigning me as its third mate in return for my cooperation in certain tasks. Mister Marsh was assigned second mate at this time as well. Unfortunately, both the captain and the first mate decided to participate in the infamous mutiny. When it was all over, the Sirocco was still afloat and I was the last officer who still had a ship left. Later, when mister Marsh was brought back to the realm of the living, he became captain due to seniority, while I received my promotion to first mate."

543046

>>543040
"So you were captain for a short while?"

543050

>>543046
I nod.
"Technically, yes."

543058

>>543050
"And what kind of tasks did they ask you to perform?"

543068

>>543058
"During my time as third mate? The commodore simply wished me to promise him my support during officer meetings and to keep an eye on a certain group of ponies. Those ponies ended up being the instigators of the whole mutiny."

543070

>>543058
>>543068
"Of course, I had my actual duties as third mate as well to perform. Recruitment, standing watch, manning the helm, that sort of work."

543075

>>543068
>>543070
"Mmmmh, well I doubt I'll have time for all that inbetween my duties as alchemist…but I'll try.
Tela told me I should get to know the ship too."

543078

>>543075
"Yes indeed. Perhaps when we expand the fleet and if I get promoted to command a ship… there will be room for you on the officer's board."

543095

>>543078
"Oh my, then I'd better work extra hard to learn all those sextants and other tools."

543100

>>543095
"Hm? Ah, nautical equipment. That alone will not make you a mate, I'm afraid. Leadership and competence are also important."

543114

>>543100
"Seems like I still have a lot to learn then. But I'll try to observe how you do it, since you seem to have it down."

543118

>>543114
"You flatter me, miss Springleaf."

543123

>>543118
"You always seem to know just what to say, I admire that."

543130

>>543123
I smirk.
"Are you attempting to make me blush, perchance?"

543134

>>543130
"Eh, I'm sorry, I just felt pretty lost when I joined the fleet and you've been such a great help, so I wanted to say I really appreciate it."

543139

>>543134
"I did recruit you, after all. I wished to ensure you would settle in well, as it appeared to me that you were not used to the pirate environment. In truth, you still have not see much of it. You… will likely be in for quite the shock when you experience some of the larger battles. It is hard to prepare for such a thing."

543141

>>543139
I nod a bit more serious.
"Miss Heart, when you had your first great battle, did you feel shocked?"

543149

>>543141
Take a deep breath and nod.
"Yes. Seeing death at work on such a scale is not something that leaves anypony untouched. It is also something best not to dwell on. You must simply keep a cool head when it does happen and focus on survival. Still… war and the likes can be a truly terrible thing."

543151

>>543149
I nod.
"I'll try to do that.
Just keep my head focused and move on."

543152

>>543151
"Good. Whatever you do, do not panic."

543156

>>543152
"I'll stay close with you, then I'm sure I won't panic. Miss Heart, there's something else I'd like to discuss, but I'd appreciate it if you'd keep it secret for now."

543157

>>543156
"Of course."

543163

>>543157
I focus and I suddenly split and there's 2 Selena's. The other one quickly becomes unstable and fades again however.
I pout.
"Oh…I don't really have it fully under control yet, but sometimes they stay longer…it's a spell I've been able to do since I was a filly."

543167

>>543163
"… Oh my. An illusion of sorts?"

543169

>>543167
"That's what my mom called it, but I never really had time to look further into it. But with all the illusion magic we've seen lately, I'm wondering if I shouldn't investigate further. Do you think maybe Abilio could help me?"

543171

>>543169
"He may indeed. I do not know if he is versed in the art of illusion magic, but perhaps he has books on the matter. Or perhaps he knows a pony who is."

543175

>>543171
"I'll talk to him later then.
But I'd appreciate it if you kept it a secret for now, since I'm not that good yet.
And I always kept it a little secret because.."
I smirk.
"Well it was fun when it did work that I could have one illusion do some work while I went off elsewhere.
My mom could always tell the difference however."

543178

>>543175
"I shall keep it a secret for as long as you please."

543179

>>543178
"Thank you, miss heart."
I get up.
"I think I shall go to bed now. Good night."

543181

>>543179
"I shall too."
Get up as well.
"And miss Springleaf… it is good to have you on board."

543195

>>543181
I smile.
"…thanks."

543384

Something something 3 months after we left Nagobana for the first time…
Knock at Light Heart's door.

543386

>>543384
"Enter."

543396

>>543386
Step inside with a smile and a small pounch in one hoof.
"Lady Heart. A gift for you."

543402

>>543396
"A gift you say? Please, close the door behind you and take a seat."

543403

>>543402
Do that, and calmly put the tiny bag on the table.
"Leaves of tea from my homeland.
But these are born here, on the ship."

543404

>>543403
"I see."
Look at the bag with a smile.
"The old commodore used to grow his own tea on board the fleet as well, as it so happens. Quite lovely to have a steady supply."

543405

>>543404
"For a moment I feared you'd not like it."
Smile at her.

543416

>>543405
"I am a rather big fan of tea, in fact. It was one of the things I wished to try while in Neighpon, but did not have the time or chance to. Now it appears I will not even need to wait until next time to try out the famous Neighponese tea."

543420

>>543416
"Truth be told, most of it is in the preparation. There are long rituals to respect."

543429

>>543420
"There are?"

543431

>>543429
"It's a very clever thing, actually.
Ways to have ponies wait, and let the tea rest just enough."
Chuckle.
"But they do look fancy."

543433

>>543431
"Perhaps you could demonstrate sometime? I do drink tea more often than I ought to."

543437

>>543433
Nod.
"In fact, why not share a tea right now?"

543439

>>543437
"Why, if you have the time to spare I do not see why not."

543451

>>543439
Chuckle.
"I would think your time more valuable than mine, Lady Heart.
May I?"
Stand up and pick the leaves.

543459

>>543451
"Please, go ahead."

543467

>>543459
Brewin' tea an' shit.
"I would imagine miss Puzzle would know most of those rites."

543471

>>543467
"I… perhaps she does. However, she has not shared them with me thus far. Then, we always drank Equestrian tea up until this point."

543473

>>543471
"In truth, I do not feel much difference in it.
It's more of an old ritual anyway.
Reminds me of home."

543478

>>543473
"I see. It is not a bad thing to remind onself of their roots."

543483

>>543478
"Ever done it?"

543486

>>543483
"Excuse me?"

543487

>>543486
"Something that would remind you of your roots."

543488

>>543487
"Given that I often carry a rifle, I suppose I do. On a daily basis in fact."
I chuckle.

543492

>>543488
Come back with the tea.
"Rifles. I could never hoofle one properly to tell you the truth. Just not in my blood.
Is your family in the business, Lady Heart?
Or perhaps mercenaries."

543493

>>543488
Then shake my head.
"But no, you don't seem of that kind. Far too…
Calm."

543495

>>543492
>>543493
"Far from, actually. But it matters little, as most of them are unfortunately deceased. Still, my father taught me how to shoot when I was but a filly. I still remember the lessons he taught me and carry them in battle."

543502

>>543495
"Advices from fathers are always the best heard."
Smile.
"Or so I've been told."

543507

>>543502
"He would likely not approve of this line of work however. I was taught how to fire a weapon to defend myself against ruffians and the likes."

543508

>>543507
"And once more I am surprised.
There are few ponies in neighpon, fewer mares, who would do something their parents wouldn't approve of."

543510

>>543508
"Where I come from, there are few as well. But I am of course not a Jane Doe when it comes to many things."

543514

>>543510
"Is this Jane Do-"
Start laughing to myself.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I just can't do it.
You know, a few ponies on this ship keep thinking I don't understand a word they say.
It's quite funny to play the ignorant foreigner, at times."

543520

>>543514
Cock my head ever so slightly.
"I see now. I found it quite strange that a pony who had lived outside of Neighpon for so long would be so ignorant."

543521

>>543520
"Oh don't take it the wrong way, I did come and warn you the very first day, after all.
I'm only doing it when it comes to some other elements of the crew. Especially those who think it'd be funny to throw some racial slur my way without realizing I've lived for twenty years amidst mercenaries from around the whole world.
It's a way to avoid fights, if you'd like.
I sure wouldn't want to thin out the already slim crew of the fleet over something as trivial as a joke."

543522

>>543521
"Begging your pardon, how does feigning ignorance avoid racial slurs being thrown around? They are quite used to seeing miss Puzzle by now and to my knowledge she has not had any trouble. We run with a very diverse crew, after all."

543523

>>543522
"I have a few ideas on how miss Puzzle has been avoiding such…
Negative attentions. After all, everypony knows she's one of your closest associates, and you inspire respect in most of the fleet."

543524

>>543523
"I suppose that is true, it is no secret that she is one of my associates."

543525

>>543524
Nod.
"And do not think I've had any big troubles myself.
But a few times it just helps to smile and say could you repeat, purisi?"

543526

>>543525
"Well, I would very much like to avoid conflict on board the fleet. We simply cannot risk it after what happened when the mutiny struck."

543527

>>543526
"That's a story I have not dared ask about yet."

543528

>>543527
"As I told miss Springleaf before, it is best not to dwell on the past. Suffice to say, the experience was very unpleasant and cost many lives due to the idiocy of some filth who used to be part of this fleet. But in the end we made them pay dearly for their betrayal, emerging victorious and very much alive."

543529

>>543528
"You see, I simply ache for the story itself.
There's much to be learnt in the past, I've learnt.
Of its mistakes."

543530

>>543529
"There were some officers on board the fleet who were disgruntled by some of the decisions and actions our commodore at that time took. One of those officers managed to forge an unlikely alliance with one of the captains, who happened to be a dragon imprisoned in bull form, combining their forces to challenge the loyalists who backed the commodore. Amusingly, the officer who incited the mutiny thought I would be on his side. He was sorely mistaken."

543531

>>543530
Set down the teacup and look at her for a moment, sizing her up.
Then, after a moment, speak up again.
"Loyalty.
One of the six Elements.
Do you know anything about Neighpon's most traditional religion, Lady Heart?"

543532

>>543531
I smirk.
"Quite a bit, as it so happens."

543533

>>543532
"I really am with one of the greatest fleets in the seas, am I?"
Smile, and finish my tea.

543534

>>543533
"It is not as great as it used to be, but with some effort it one day can be as great again. Many brilliant minds were lost during the mutiny."

543535

>>543534
"I hope to live up to this nomee, then."
Stand up.
"If you please, I would like to have this talk again, Lady Heart.
It's been a relaxing moment."

543536

>>543535
"That would be pleasing indeed. Thank you for your time, mister Tree."

543537

>>543536
Bow, and leave.
