No.17480

Trotantium.

A warm and lush land fractured and divided by two clashing empires. To the west, the once glorious Trotantine Empire groans under the crushing weight of the Zebra’s Oddomane Empire hailing from the east. For decades these two nations have fought each other in endless wars, the last one almost ending in complete disaster for the ponies of Trotantium. Having lost much of their territory and wealth to its eastern counterpart, Trotantium is but a mere shell of what it used to be.

Despite the hardships, the ponies of Trotantium refuse to give up and believe that the glorious empire that was built on the hard work of their ancestors will rise up once more one day to seize the glory and wealth it deserves.

Wow, it looks really nice, though there seems to be a lot of empty space. It's still WIP I assume?

No.17491

>>17490
Nah not really, I'm probably not spending any more time on it. It's more of a guideline for me than for the players. It's handy to have a visual on how the area is divided.

I just wanted to draw a quick simple map of the general area where most of the quest will take place for myself. It only depicts the major towns, cities, roads and strongholds. Villages, outposts and small roads aren't on there. It honestly doesn't server much importance and the only reason why I posted it is because I didn't know which other image I could use.

No.17543

You stare at the lush vineyards stretching out on the hills that roll over the landscape east of the river you find yourself on. You are an adventurer set out by ship from a faraway land looking for whatever it is you desire, be that wealth, thrill, knowledge… or marevaginas. In all fairness, you don’t exactly know what to expect from these foreign lands, but you do know that there are plenty of opportunities to be found for those willing to fight for it.

However, you are not alone in your exploits as other ponies and races have heard of this land of opportunity as well. In fact the ship is filled with them! Perhaps, you think to yourself, it would be wise to introduce yourself to them and start forming alliances. After all, friendship is magic!

The boat shouldn’t take much longer to arrive at its destination… provided there is a favorable wind.

After some of the passengers strike up some lovely conversation, one of the crewmembers starts shouting.

“HEADS UP MATEYS, WE BE APPROACHIN' MERRY OL’ CLOPPER!”

And with that, right before midday, the boat finally arrives in Clopantinople, capital and heart of the Trotantine Empire. The part of the city you find yourself in is magnificent looking and bustling with activity, showing no sign of the so called ‘decline of the Empire’. Everywhere you look you see inns, shops, warehouses, banks, taverns and just about every other place you can spend money at. Well almost every place, there aren’t any brothels in sight since those are probably located further in the ‘darker’ parts of the city. As the boat docks and the party disembarks, you wonder about what your first move should be. You could go to one of the taverns or shops and ask what the word on the streets is or maybe talk to one of the city guards walking about on the docks.

Last time on The Decline: original sewer quest: reloaded: the movie: the book: the game, a thick green foam of unknown origins had spread around the Slums’ underground, blocking of many of the sewers entrances and causing floodings. Without anywhere to go, the waste of the slums piled up and caused diseases in the area to be spread at an alarming rate. As the local government turned a blind eye to the situation, too busy worrying itself with their rivals to the east, a foreign aid organization hailing from the Principality of Equestria stepped up and tried to defuse the situation. Unable to enter the sewers due to dangerous creatures however, they enlisted aid from our heroes and tasked them with securing it.

Last time on Trotantium: The Decline: the party ventured into the sewers on request by the EPC to clear out the area of vile creatures. While they were slaying and killing about, the party found a peculiar runestone which was emitting a green glow, which turned out to be a mere water purificator that had gone bad. How and what caused this remains a mystery. After bringing the runestone back to Cross and Crescent, it was decided that Cross would take it with him to investigate what caused this. Waragians are kind of like Diamond Dogs. Well, actually they are Diamond Dogs, but don't tell them that. They serve the Trotantine Emperor. However, the Emperor is an office, not a person.

The party is currently divided up in fighters and spectators. Dusk and Zivur have both bought tickets to watch the tournament from the bleachers, while Falkmar and Erumal have entered the tournament as participants. Heike is currently nowhere to be seen, but that's alright, the tournament hasn't started yet.

Falkmar and Erumal have just entered the changing rooms where they will be given equipment to fight in the tournament by the tournament master while Dusk and Zivur are still standing outside of the amphitheater.

You begin to read the book.

It talks about how decades ago there lived a lady named Xanthi who lived alone in her mansion in Pegasa. She was a rich and kind zebra, who didn’t need no stallion. Throughout her life, she gained massive wealth thanks to the success of her shipping company which traded goods from Trotantium to the rest of the world.

"Here you go, my friend. I've got both shortswords and one hoofed axes, which one of the two do you prefer? Remember that you will have to do with this weapon for the entire tournament."

The Tournament master turns to a closet and takes out two blue colored ponchos.

"You will also both need to wear this. You are both going to be put in team blue for the first round and thus fight alongside each other."

>>22944
"The first round is a 4 versus 4 versus 4 battle. You will be fighting against team red and team yellow."

He hands you a wooden medium shield.

"Is this good enough for your liking?"

>>22946
The battles haven't even started yet and the crowd is going wild in anticipation.

You continue to read the book, seemingly oblivious to the roaring crowd around you.

'With this money she built a massive mansion on top of a hill overlooking the rivertown of Pegasa. As she grew older and lonelier however she began obsessing over dark magic and eternal life. Many of the townsfolk who didn’t already avoid the mare now also started to shun her for indulging in such vile practices.' >cont

You continue reading until the last part.

'Xanthi did not care however, and tried to contact all sorts of wizards, druids and even necromancers in an attempt to find the key of eternal life. It was on one faithful day however that the mare disappeared from her mansion. The few servants that were left had no idea what had happened to her and soon left the house in search for other work, as their former employer could no longer provide payment. To this day, 30 years after her disappearance, the house remains empty and abandoned and the mystery of Xanthi unsolved.'

You fight until you give up pretty much, after which you lose your spot in the tournament. The winners go on to the next round. Off you go now! The other two team members should arrive shortly."

The tournament master pushes you into the tunnel and you start walking.

As you move towards the end of the corridor, the noise of applauding hooves and shouting grows louder. You finally reach the end and can now look over the battlefield which you will be fighting on very soon. On the bleachers around the arena, thousands of ponies and other species are singing and shouting in anticipation for the upcoming fights, creating quite a lot of noise in the process.

“SILENCE!”

The voice of a stallion, so loud that it has to be enhanced by some kind of magic, booms through the amphitheater and quickly silences the clamor.

“Her majesty Lavinia the 17th; archtreasurer, Duchess of Clopantinople, Grand Marshal of the Imperial army, Empress of the Trotantine Empire and rightful ruler of all of Trotantium has made her entrance and shall be spectating this tournament today!”

As the stallion speaks, an earth pony mare wearing what looks like very expensive purple robes appears on a balcony overseeing the arena, and sits down on what seems to be some kind of throne. Next to her several other ponies appear which you assume are members of her court, as well as some guards. The crowd starts applauding once again, many of them shouting “Long live the Empress!” while doing so.

The empress speaks up, apparently not needing any kind of magic to carry her voice through the stadium.

"My faithful subjects, since the beginning of our glorious empire we have organised tournaments such as these to test the strength of warriors from around and out of our realm! Despite the hardships of our empire, we still carry on this tradition to this day! Do enjoy yourself today, as you all deserve to!"

As she finishes speaking a stallion and a mare wearing the same blue poncho as Falkmar and Erumal walk up to them.

"A donkey and a goat? Surely this is a joke!" The mare speaks up.

>>22976
The second book is divided in several chapters covering various topics. The first chapter talks about how the Crow’s head Society came into existence. It was apparently created even before the Trotantine Empire was founded, by a group of skilled necromancers seeking to further their knowledge about necromantic practices of different species and death. Together, the group hoped to share their knowledge and skills so that they could improve themselves.

The second chapter is about the different practices of the group. It notes that while the group was shunned by many after the Empire was founded by Lavinia I, they were generally tolerated and left alone. They filled their days by performing necromantic rituals and searching for ancient tomes containing knowledge that was thought to be long gone. Doing so they gained great renown for mastering powerful necromantic skills.

"The third part tells about the fall and disappearance of the Crow’s head society. It all started a century back when the society began to break up into two camps, one being more conservative and uptight, while the other was progressive and unrestrained. The conservative side was happy with the state of affairs and felt that the society was to keep a low profile as it always had and not intermingle with the conflicts of the rest of the world. The progressive side on the other hoof wanted to start utilizing the knowledge and resources of the society to gain power and recognition, to influence and put their mark on history. It was around this time that the Trotantine Empire came into a first conflict with the predecessor of the Oddomane Empire. It has been said that parts of the Crow’s head society collaborated with the Zebra tribes that sprung up in the very eastern parts of Trotantium, due to the fact that these tribes were much more welcoming and open towards necromancy than the Trotantines."

'When Empress Lavinia XIV died in battle and the young Lavinia XV followed her up on the throne, temporary peace was made with the tribes as the Empire was unable to stop their advance due to internal conflict. It was at this time that the biggest tribes decided that if they wanted to secure their position, they had to work together, thus forming the Oddomane Empire. The name was chosen to mock the Trotantines more than anything and when it turned out that some of the founders of the fledgling empire were indeed necromancers and part of the Crow’s Head society, the young empress decided to pass the Inquisitio Act, which made necromancy and several other occult practices illegal and punishable by death at the stake.'
