You have arrived to Diligence.
The mire surrounds you, and somewhere in it, the Bog Beast swims.

The outer rim of Diligence is calm, but full of docile zombies.
The Smith here can help you with weapons and armor needs, and you can also check out the old inn and ore fisher docks.

480442

>>480441
What are we here for?

480443

>>480442
We're going bog beast hunting while anyone who wants to pester the smith does so.

480444

>>480441
>>480443
Can anyone tell me what happened to the twon? Why are we here?

480445

>>480442
The scouts said the place was swarming with undead and got worried.
There is also a Bog Beast that has been awakened by all the activity. It may pose a threat to Privilege.

480446

>>480441
>>480442
>>480443
A Smith?

Maybe he can help me with my wand. All these collected unicorn horn shavings should be able to do something.

480447

>>480446
I just stare at her upon hearing that.
"A catalyst? Dont you have one already?"

480448

>>480444
We're in Diligence, Rotunda's town. The dead have come back from the mire starting around here.

480449

>>480447
"Yeah, but I'm looking for a better one! Always am. I need better than this wood for now."

480450

>>480448
"So, you ready?"

480451

>>480444
Diligence was built hundreds of years ago and got rich off selling iron ore fished from the mire.
When mining became commonplace, Diligence was abandoned.
Rotunda's castle is in the middle of the city, and most of the houses have long since rotten away into husks.
The old population, traditionally buried in the swamp that gave life to the city, has now awakened and gone back to living in it. The young witches say Rotunda intends to turn them into obedient undead soldiers.
>>480446
He is working in his smithy nearby. Or, what remains of it.

480452

>>480446
I stare worriedly at you.

480453

>>480450
"Am I ever not?"

480454

>>480451
Go see him.

>>480452
"Maybe we can find a horn attachment for you!"

480455

>>480454
Hello… child. Be careful… the forge… is hot…

480456

>>480449
"Since you are going to have that fixed, then perhaps I might learn a thing or two about wands by tagging along with you. I'll follow."

480457

>>480455
"Yes, thank you. Can you do anything to improve a simple wand?"

Show him my wand. The wooden one.

480458

>>480454
Follow.

>>480457
"I wonder how old is he, his forging techniques might be that of an ancient time far in the past." I whispered.

480459

>>480457
I've no real love… of magic…
Iron… is what gave me… my bread…
What… does it need?

480460

>>480453
"Not that I've seen. To the boat."

480461

>>480460
"Should we take any of the others? It will likely die faster the more of us go after it."

480462

>>480459
"Never mind, then. Oooh, how about footwear? Can you reinforce my pair of good traveling boots? They're comfy and all and I want to make them a little more resilient."

480463

>>480459
Look at his selection of arms and armor, what does he have?

"How long have you worked in the forge?"

480464

>>480445
Hunting shit is my job.
Well, more like Bearington's.

480465

>>480461
"Weren't you going to draw it up to the castle?"

480466

>>480464
"How are you holdin' up?"

480467

>>480462
Boots… I can… try. What… do they need?
>>480463
Most of it has long since rusted to hell and back, but his works all have a distinctive shape. Possibly born from needing to compensate for the natural flaws of the material.
I was a smith… all my life.
>>480460
>>480461
>>480464
Go ask the ore fishers by the dock if you want their tips

480468

>>480461
"If you like. I think some of them went to the smith."

480469

>>480465
"I was planning on killing it. If there's more than one, then I don't see why we wouldn't draw another up to the castle."

480470

>>480467
"Reinforcement to weather all terrain and remain comfy! Well, that's all I can think of for your services. I am a mage and use little metal."

480471

>>480467
Approach his works. Can I inspect it? Is anything of use or is a few polishing enough to make it good again>?
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

480472

>>480467
Uuuuh that's smart!
>>480466
"All too strange."
Wave at the undead.
"Nothing like this in forest."

480473

>>480469
"So far it's just the one, and I would prefer we use it."

>>480467
Off to the docks then.

480474

>>480472
"Nothing like this in my forge either. It's strange for all of us, I reckon. That's why it's gotta be fixed."

480475

>>480473
"Let us just hope Rotunda doesn't turn it against us once it finally gets taken down by the weight of her minions."
I'll follow after.

480476

>>480470
Mage…
He digs around his boxes, looking for his oils and hammers
>>480471
Nothing here is usable in combat any more. It might have been great 300 years ago, but not any more.
>>480473
A couple of workers in think leather trousers and boots are loading up ropes, rakes, hooks and buckets into a small boat

480477

>>480474
"After.
Now, fix beast in bog.
Not safe travel."
>>480476
So…
Go find the fishermen!

480478

>>480476
"Or maybe you can give me a staff I can place my wand within in case I need a boost in magic? Or something heavy to hit things with and still be able to cast with."

480479

>>480477
"Sure thing, girl."

480480

>>480478
I do not… really understand magic…
But if you wish… I can always… make you a heavy staff…

>>480477
>>480479
The two ore fishers sit down once they have loaded their boat. One of them takes out a pipe.

480481

>>480476
Leave it for now, is his forge on fire btw? Is there evidence of the blight in here like pustules, infections etc?

>>480478
I stare at her for a moment.
"…… where did you get thsoe unicorn horn shavings btw?"

480482

>>480480
"We require a boat. We're going Bog Beast hunting."

480483

>>480481
"From unicorns, silly? Want to donate some?"

480484

>>480480
"If I place my wand in it, will I be able to cast with it?"

"Make it a staff also suited for traveling, please."

480485

>>480480
Oh, the big guy is here, let him talk.

480486

>>480476
"You there. We require a boat."

480487

>>480483
I shake my head.
"Uhmmm no thank you."

480488

>>480481
Yes, Starburst helped him light it earlier.
The smith is an old, mummified corpse. The entire town is a rotten ruin.
>>480484
I… do not know… how wands work… But lets… try…
This makes your wand a Great Weapon.
>>480486
>>480482
A boat? Well, plenty to pick from… The others must be… lazing off.
Can't blame them… look at the waves… There is a Bog Beast not far from here.

480489

>>480488
I'll nod.
"Are you familiar with them, then? Have you ever heard of one being killed?"

480490

>>480488
"Bog beast hard to quiet?"

480491

>>480488
Woo
So it's a staff I can put my wand into?

480492

>>480491
Yes.
A bad roll might dislodge it though, forcing you to slot it back in before spells can be cast again.
>>480490
>>480489
Bog beasts are hell to fight… out in the mire. On land… they are slower… and can't hide… but they are no weaker…

480493

>>480488
>>480488
Lets go around a bit and explore the area near the smithy. Hows the place? Anything of note?

Any signs of Rotunda being in this town recently?
'1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

480494

>>480492
"No fight, talk to.
They know talk? All animals know talk!"

480495

>>480492
"Do you recall any ways to lure them onto land?"

480496

>>480493
There is an inn, and the docks. Aside from that it's mostly residential houses and stuff that so badly rotten it's impossible to tell.
There is clearly someone living in the castle at the center of the island, and that was also confirmed by the witches - Rotunda is here.
>>480494
It seemed… more interested in eating us… than talking…
>>480495
They… sometimes chased… those they got a nibble off of… onto land… but we… always fought them off… before they got too far…

480497

>>480496
"Mean."

480498

>>480493
>>480496
Follow Frost Cream.
"Pretty obvious that some who wants to hide would be in the castle, wouldn't it?"

If we don't know much about the castle, go ask someone about it.

Oh, and not before thanking the smith.

480499

>>480496
"How much is a 'nibble'?"

480500

>>480496
>>480499
I'll nod.
"A nibble for a creature that size could be anywhere from an arm to an entire body."

480501

>>480498
It was… nothing…
…if you want… information… the innkeeper always has… tales to tell…

>>480497
>>480499
>>480500
Once it tastes blood… it knows you… and hunts you…

480502

>>480498
I nod at her while looking at the castle in the distance.
"There's an Inn and a dock nearby, should we investigate more? I dont think we could tackle that castle with just the two of us."

480503

>>480501
"If that is so, then the Inn sounds like a good idea. What do you say Maya?"

480504

>>480501
"Blood, huh. I hope you're not adverse to taking a few hits."

480505

>>480501
"Good to know."
>>480504
"We have healers. I can live through a cut or two."

480506

>>480502
>>480501
"Of course not. We're just gathering information, right? Anyways, the smith said the innkeeper would have something good to say."

Head on there.

480507

>>480505
"You no need to be hurt.
I talk with bog beast.
Make him go."

480508

>>480506
Now what is inside the Inn? Anything of interest?
Also is it safe to remove my rebreather/gas mask/etc here?
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

480509

>>480507
"And if it doesn't listen?"

480510

>>480503
>>480506
The inn is looking surprisingly good compared to most of the places here. Must have been well built. Or possibly just resistant to mold.
Inside you can hear some music.
>>480508
At your own risk.
A zombie is playing the piano in here. A few ladies are pouring drinks.
What must be the innkeeper is paging through his books.
>>480504
>>480505
You are… actually going… to fight it?

480511

>>480509
Shrug.
"We beat it with sticks."

480512

>>480510
"Yea, we're pretty strong, if we can hit it.."

480513

>>480510
"Of course. Though if we do succeed on having it follow us on land, you might want to have the town down here cleared up so there are no bystanders."

480514

>>480511
"It'll probably come to that."

>>480513
"Yes. Keep them away from the castle."

480515

>>480512
>>480513
Crazies the lot of you…

480516

>>480510
>>480508
"Well, uh, hello there! Heard you got some good stories about the place. Any rumours about a witch known as rotunda?"

Ask the innkeeper.

480517

>>480515
I'll just shrug.

480518

>>480515
Shrug along with Red.

480519

>>480516
Hey there young miss, welcome to my inn. Old enough to drink? Well, I don't really care.
A witch?
Tell you what. Buy a glass and I might toss in some juicy gossip.

480520

>>480517
>>480518
He points at the heaving patterns of the mire
Well it's right there. They like to swim in patterns.

480521

>>480510
Appraoch the innkeeper

>>480519
"Uhhmm.. I dont drink." I scrunch

480522

>>480520
"You might want to clear the area, then. It's probably not going to like coming up out of the mire."
And I'll climb into one of the boats.

480523

>>480519
Does his stuff look safe to drink?

"Well, sure."

Buy something reasonably cheap.

480524

>>480523
I look at her confused.
"We're going to drink right now? We're in a mission here." I scrunched

480525

>>480521
Water costs the same as the wine.
>>480523
It's… well aged.
Then, they say this stuff improves with age.
There's a good gal. The witch, Rotunda, well she was the wife of a noble once. And then went on to outlive him massively.
I should know. I'm a noble too. Well, used to be.

>>480522
If you must… take that boat.
It belongs… to Fergus. Fergus… is a dick.

480526

>>480525
"Good enough. I'll try to bring it back."

480527

>>480525
"You're of noble blood? Whats your name?"

480528

>>480525
Wave my wand over the drink to see how it reacts.
'1d10'

"So I'm guessing she was suspecting of using age magic and eventually had to go into hiding?"

Roll #1 6 = 6

480529

>>480527
Sasha. Used to be a baron once.
>>480528
It makes little waves. Just try not to drink the flakes on the bottom.
Or maybe she was so ugly to begin with it was impossible to know if she was aging in the first place.

480530

>>480529
"How come you end up here?" I ponder next to her and then stare at her.
"Do you know the condition of this village as of now?"

480531

>>480526
"Take care. We'll try and draw it towards the castle."

480532

>>480530
That's a lot of info you're asking for for the price of but a single drink.
He rubs is fingers together
>>480526
>>480531
You can go alone or get the others too

480533

>>480532
"Uhhhmmm.. "
should I?
'1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

480534

>>480532
Well, I'm just the bait. The others will be on land. Though…
>>480531
"You might want to tell the others what we're doing. No sense catching them by surprise as well."

480535

>>480533
I smile and scratch my head.
"Perhaps one drink would not be that bad I think? How much?"

480536

>>480529
"Ugly? How'd she even become a wife? Hahahaha!"

Drink a little bit.

480537

>>480535
A mere four crowns, a steal!
More like highway robbery…
>>480536
The stuff is far stronger than the label of "wine" implies. Must be the age.
Some like 'em chunky I guess…

480538

>>480534
"I'll be sure to do that if I can find them."

480539

>>480538
"Hmph. Best I can ask for, I suppose."
>>480537
Time to row, row, row my boat, gently down the mire. There's a bog beast I need to acquire.

480540

>>480537
I frown a bit.
Do I even have that much?
Also what do they use money for here? Its not like they eat you know. I scrunched as I look at my bag.

480541

>>480539
>>480537
I'm with this nigga.
Bearington can row.
'1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

480542

>>480537
"Aaaaanyway…. where is she now? If she's got that anti aging on…"

480543

>>480540
It's just a lot for one drink, not an actually massive amount.
>>480542
Still lives in the castle for all I know. Still doing her little magic tricks probably too.
>>480539
>>480541
You make it to the part of the mire where the heaving patterns were without rousing the beast.
There are some spears in the boat if you want to stab at it.

480544

>>480543
I'll let the strange person try talking with it first. Though I'll have a spear on-hand to use if I need to get its attention.

480545

>>480543
"Thats fine give me one. Also something not strong please." I smile.

I then react a bit upon hearing that.
"If that is so then she might still have guards in that castle doing her biding right?"

480546

>>480543
So where is everyone else?

480547

>>480546
Frost and Maya are drinking at the inn
>>480545
Probably.
As for me, well, I kinda lost my fortune to my useless son's habits. So I took what I had left and bought a curse off a witch, so that all the sons he had, and their sons and sons sons would all be just like me. Ha.
Then I came here and opened an inn. Been here ever since.

480548

>>480543
>>480545
"In the middle of the iiiiisland, right?Wonder what she';s got there?"

480549

>>480548
Knowing her she keeps mold and shit as decoration. She always found disgusting things interesting.

480550

>>480547
"Hmmm…"
Look for a moment at the glass, lets take that drink and see what it taste like.
'1d10'

"Been here ever since… for how long?"

Roll #1 1 = 1

480551

>>480547
Well let's go warn them.

480552

>>480550
It's a very expensive pint of stagnant water.
Ten years, I think? Got up this morning and the place looked a little odd though.
>>480551
Good day sir, welcome to my inn! Have a seat! Just half a crown! Drinks are four! Come, come!

480553

>>480552
"…later perhaps. Did two others come in here earlier?"

480554

>>480552
Bleeugghh.. after putting the glass down I just look at her sadly.
"Are you sure? What are the things that you notice so far? Odd is it not?"

480555

>>480543
No can do voice.
I need Nature's help here.
Let's start calling all my friends to sing the tune of the woods!
'1d10+2'

Roll #1 4 + 2 = 6

480556

>>480549
"Any other things she was known for?"

>>480550
Offer Frost some of my own drink

480557

>>480556
"Eh? I…. is it good?"

480558

>>480553
They are right there, at the bar..
Buy a drink and I might tell.
>>480554
I need to hire a new maid… the place is filthy.
>>480555
You can hear the swamp resonate with your growing song. The water heaves.
+1 to rolls
>>480556
Big fan of magic. And supposedly she also had other family but that was none of anyone's business.

480559

>>480558
"Well that is really a bit far fetched from what is the reality…" I scrunched.

480560

>>480558
As the beast raises, I will bow deeply.
"Creature of the bog, we saw the signs of your mighty hunt.
But for all your greatness, you fail to grasp that your hunt will be your undoing.
You are not going after the animal like the bird goes after the worm, but you have decided to prey on Man, and Man is wicked and evil and dangerous.
This hunt will make you all the same.
"
Animal Mastery.
'1d10+3'

Roll #1 4 + 3 = 7

480561

>>480558
"Uh huh…"

>>480556
>>480559
"Red's gone to bait the bog monster to the castle."

480562

>>480560
I hunger. I eat. For long, man has slept in my bog, giving me food. But now, man swims away. I hunger.

480563

>>480560
>>480562
Well, I've got no idea what's going on, but it seems under control.

480564

>>480561
"What?"

480565

>>480562
"Man has come back. If you keep the shore of Man safe, he will feed you once again."

480566

>>480559
…Reality?

480567

>>480564
"It's to help us storm the castle."

480568

>>480565
I hunger now. Man is prey. Not master. So it has always been. And now, someone has stolen even that from me.

480569

>>480568
"I know who did that. Who turned Man into Corpse.
And she is no less Man than those you fed upon.
"

480570

>>480558
>>480561
"Magic, that goes without saying. any favoured.. types? Spells?"

480571

>>480567
"I see, so must we leave at once. Me and Maya are talking to some of the locals so we might know some knowledge on Rotunda. She is of noble blood as far as Sasha here has told us." I motion to the zombie bar host.

480572

>>480570
Some said she was looking for ways to bring the dead to life or something.
>>480569
She caused my hunger. My anger. I will feast upon her.

480573

>>480572
This is the part where I send the bog beast after the witch that caused all this, but since I lost a few beats OOC I have no idea where that is.

480574

>>480573
Rotunda, who lives in the castle at the center of the island

480575

>>480571
"And I'm sure that would have meant something some time ago. But titles are meaningless to a witch."

480576

>>480574
Point my stick with a slow motion towards the castle.
"The biggest nest of Man, made of stone and iron. She hides there."

480577

>>480572
"Ah, so it's just necromancy."

Idly cast Stasis on my drink to see how much greater my future will be

'1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

480578

I think I dozed off thinking about the past…

480579

>>480566
I gulp.
"Well that is true, I just want to let you know."

480580

>>480577
I certainly hope so…
Your drink falls over
Also that's two crown for making a mess.
>>480576
I hate nests. Cannot swim. Get scared. Make mistakes.
But now… now I'm angry…

It dives back down and the patterns move towards the shore

480581

>>480578
>>480580
By that I mean where am I now?

480582

>>480580
Turn to the others.
"Beast going after Witch.
Want to eat her.
Seemed smart thing."
Smile brightly.

480583

>>480580
Wave my wand a little frantically at the mess.

What I I reversed time? Could I do that?

'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

480584

>>480582
I'll put down the spear.
"Good job. We should follow after, to make certain we get through as it causes chaos."

480585

>>480584
"Just us?"

480586

>>480585
"No. By the time it makes landfall, we should be able to round up the rest of the others."

480587

>>480586

Seeing as you are low on cures, wounded, and feeling ill, you decide to leave the hand creature alone for now, swearing revenge.

You fall back through the Outer Town, bringing news of what is happening.

After crossing the mire safely on an ore boat, you return to Privilege.
Mordstein says his research is advancing rapidly. It should be done in less than 12 hours. Possibly much less.
The witches seem to have at least gotten some food and sleep.
The scouts report that the mire has calmed down a lot and no new massive beasts have been seen in the Zone.
You can now take a quick rest and remove 1d10 infection each for free.

Then…. lead the way…

Diligence Keep.
Old but agelessly sturdy. Unlike the other buildings of Diligence, it has suffered little over the centuries. Indeed the mold and cobwebs seem to be entirely decorative.
Old paintings and tapestries also occupy the walls.

The citizens of Diligence barricade the front gates.
We will stand guard here, and kill any of the mutated ones who would seek to flank you. Find Rotunda.

There are three ways to go here. To the left and right lie doors that probably lead to servant quarters, and to the front a larger door that leads to a main hall.
One of the undead gives you a map
I was among those who built this place. I do not know all its secrets… but I know the layout. So I made… this.

You notice Red lags behind as he goes check out the bedroom.
The dining hall is well furnished. Quite nice really, considering how much of the castle seems a bit rotten and uncared for. A thick layer of dust on the table and chairs confirms nobody eats here. The place is just for show.
There is a small double door on the far end. It probably leads to the kitchen.
You may go there or look around.
>>485868
The young witches unlock the bedroom door.
There is a heavy curtain going across the room, blocking sight to that half from the door. It smells a lot cleaner in here than in the other rooms.

There are many long shadows to creep in. You will not be seen until you yourself will it.
>>485881
This entire room is almost like from another building, or at least another age. The decor is in far better condition than the rest of the keep, and looks valuable. There are also paintings of various people, mostly of a man and a woman. While he is tall and quite strong looking, she is very fat, and looks quite short next to him.
Perhaps this is Rotunda and her husband of old…

Any food from this place would probably kill a normal man… it all looks entirely inedible.
>>485895
You turn a few corners and find… it.
A massive fleshy hulk steadily chopping away at a huge slab of meat. Its folds of fat rippling with every impact, and its giant, muscular arms waving a man-sized cleaver with ease.
>>485899
The air on the other side of the curtain smells still, but fresh. The haze of the plague doesn't hang in the air either.
"We did some work here on our own"
"Sealed this part of the room up best we could, so it was safe from any airborne diseases."
"…so we could sleep better."
It seems they also had pushed their beds together. Or, well, if you can call those beds.

There is also a great fireplace, which looks like it could be lit.

>>485918
The basement seem to dry up the further in you go. It also gets colder.
It is quite dark in here too, with no light sources beyond the kitchen door and some unlit lanterns.
There are many crates and barrels down here.
>>485920
They go back to rummaging in the trunk and whisper something to eachother.

Red and the witches went to get their old wards from the bedroom.
>>485940
As you sit in the darkness
>>485938
A loud grunt and squeal shatters the silence of the basement, and what seems to be a sickly, if fat, swamp boar slams into you.
A rusty chain on its neck implies it was supposed to be dinner later.
The chef seems to have heard it too, as the humping of his cleaver stopped.

485946

You poke your head in past the heavy curtain set up in the bedroom and smell the fresh air.
It seems the young witches made this part of the room somewhat airtight. There is no sign of the plague here.
The two are shuffling around by a large trunk, probably looking for something in it.
>>485948
You pull her into the shadows as the chef lumbers down into the basement and spots the boar.
Shut up.
In a single strike he cleaves the large pig in half and drags one of the halves back to the kitchen.

The basement is dark
There are reinforcements in the lobby
>>485956

"If you… insist…"

485965

>>485959
"I trust you both not to be stupid enough to run to your deaths. When the battles with the guardians begin, you can simply take cover unless you want to help."

485968

>>485964
I think I'll drop for now. I'm sure others will mind more than me if they miss a bossfight.

You soon reach the dining hall. Unlike the rest of this rotten, smelly place, this room seems outright fancy. And covered in a thick layer of dust.
"Rotunda never wanted to eat here."
"And she never let us eat here either."

485988

>>485987
"Let me guess. Reserved for her use only?"

"She refused to even come in here."

There are several paintings here, depicting a strong, tall (and apparently wealthy) man and his shorter, fat wife.
…probably Rotunda and her late husband.
"She said it was too nice. And it disgusted her."

It's worth noting that she was short, fat and kinda crooked looking even back then.

"If you want to reach the tower… we'll need to get past the kitchen. It's back there."

486010

>>486007

486011

>>486007
"Who designed this place?"

486016

>>486011
"It was built by the people of Diligence."
"And financed by one of its most important citizens, who made this place what it was."
"Rotunda later did some changes to make it better suit her needs."
>>486010
As you open the kitchen door you are met with a wall of rotting air. Piles of unspeakable maggot-infested meat, moldy vegetables and unidentifiable sludge cover nearly every surface of the kitchen.
Heavy dripping slabs of flesh hang from rusty hooks from the ceiling and the floor is slippery from various guts, fat, blood and who knows what else.
A steady thumping noise can be heard further in, like a beating heart somewhere inside this meaty chamber…

486017

>>486016

486020

"We won't be of much use against that brute, or the librarian…"
>>486025
"Rotunda said it's what witches should eat…"
You can see a massive corpulent hulk slowly come into view behind the meat racks and tables. He is massively fat, with arms as thing as a man's chest, wielding a meat cleaver as tall as you are. It is impossible to say where the multitude of chins ends and the jaw or belly begins. Or where the eyes even are. But it clearly knows what is is doing.

Wonderful. Now let's throw him down the stairs.

Roll #1 3 = 3

486495

You walk down the stairs and pull on the chain.
Your genius plan results in him exploding inside out and falling on top of you.
You can feel the writhing mass inside him.

You pull your way out from under the pile of guts.
…but you are pretty sure there was something else in there along with you.

486499

>>486497
"Well one of the floors rotted away so we just started tossing stuff in. The stairs are still fine on the other side though. The key is, again, at the top."

486500

"And how agressive are these… junks are?"

486501

>>486499

486502

>>486496
"You alright?"

486503

>>486498
Of course there is. Hopefully there won't be for long though.

Let's hope that was the end of it.

486506

>>486505
"Let's hope it doesn't go 'apeshit'. How much of it is flammable?"

486507

>>486505
"And why would it do that?"

>>486506
"Most, probably."
"Then, so is the tower."
"…and the common room"
"aaaand most of this place."
>>486507

"But firm."

Pause now, or keep going?

486513

I'm fine to keep going, but if you want it to keep at one boss a session, that's fine.

487529

The witches turn a key in the lock and force the door open.
This tower is a bit bigger than the last. However most of the floor is missing. Or, well, would be. There is a huge pile of random junk, old furniture, odds and ends and construction material all heaped in the hole. It must reach down all the way to the tower basement.
On the far side, you can see the stairs to the upper parts.

Looks like lots of legos to step on and table edges stalking your knees.

Roll #1 1 = 1

487780

>>487755
You help honey up.
Unfortunately, a mechanical arm grabbing Tityroi by the junk does the opposite of help him stand.
>>487762
The little chair cannot hold on. It lets the arm go, raining everything from tables and beds to books and old shoes on you.
>>487761
>>487759
>>487758
>>487757
The broken chair tries to hold its ground.
But in the end, it is futile. Its leg gives way and it falls over backwards, its broken seat cracking further, its back already split in half.
It struggles to stand up one final time, crying out to its comrades in the pit. But none come.
Chairface, self-proclaimed leader of the Lost Furniture And Odds and Ends, meets his end at the hands of these invaders, torn asunder without much hope of survival.
Nothing remains of him now, but silent splinters.
The pit sits still.
Nothing dares oppose you here any longer.

487781

>>487780
"Is… Are y'all alright?"

487783

>>487780
I stand up and snort, then start walking out.
"That's taken care of."

487784

>>487781
>>487780
"I'm fine." I breathed hard.

487785

>>487780
"That was unpleasant."

487787

>>487780
"Can we please get going now?"

487788

>>487781
>>487783
>>487784
>>487785
>>487787
"Well that's half the key…"
"…I suppose we need to get to the second floor then."

487789

>>487788
"What's next then?"

487790

>>487787
"Yes. There are still two to go."
>>487788
"Are there any hidden passages up to the second floor? Rotunda might expect us to go up the main stairs."

487791

>>487788
picking of splinters with magic I'll follow "What about the stair guards?"

487792

>>487785
"You said it doctor. It makes me wonder who will spend the time on making golems out of furnitures, but it doesnt matter now." I then get myself ready to depart.

>>487788
"yes lets."
Follow

487793

>>487789
>>487790
"The only way up is via the stairs I'm afraid."
>>487791
"No real option but fight past them I guess…"
"Unless we ask the townspeople in the lobby to help with them, but then we might get jumped by undead coming in via the front door."

487794

>>487785
"Small pickings compared to what was outside."

>>487790
"Are we even sure she knows we're here?"

487795

>>487793
I'll grimace slightly.
>>487794
Then shrug.
"We haven't exactly been quiet."

487796

>>487794
"I wouldn't put it past a mage to set up sentry magic fo some kind, and even then such a commotion would be enough."

487797

>>487793
"Why are you afraid of the stairs?"

487798

>>487793
"Any more obstacles we should be aware of?"

487799

>>487796
"Then no point of making it all quiet! Lets just bust in!" I snort.

487801

>>487797
>>487798
"All that stands between us and Rotunda now are the Stair Guards, the Librarian, and whatever might be awake in the Magic Tower."

487803

>>487801
"Right. Let's go and kill them then."

487804

>>487799
Rub him on the head.

"Let's not risk it all yet. For now she might think we could just be a bunch of foolhardy kids and not a team out to steal her magic- arrest her. Yeah."

487805

>>487801
I look scared as well.
"The stair guards looked.. big."

487807

>>487801
"What are the stair guards?"

>>487804
"Awww, I don't get any headrubs?"

487808

>>487807
"Successful experiments."

487809

>>487807
Stare at him for a while, then charge my fingers with lightning and touch his head.

'1d10+2'

Roll #1 5 + 2 = 7

487810

>>487808
"What kind?"

487811

>>487808
"Any weaknesses?"

487812

>>487808
"And what is that supposed to mean?"

487813

>>487804
I just scrnch at this.
"Yes, perhaps you're right about that. I just felt that stealth does not matter anymore so why not go all out."

487814

>>487809
"Ow! Hey! Two can play at that game!"
I charge my own hand with magic and slap one of your tits.
[1d10]

Roll #1 4 = 4

487815

>>487810
>>487811
>>487812
"They are, more or less, the best Plaguebearers Rotunda ever managed to make."
"Hardened and vile, immune to all by the strongest of damage…"
"Surging with renewing life"
"And overflowing with the fluids of death"
"Those two represented what we were supposed to always strive for"
"And one day surpass, had we not fled"

487816

>>487815
"Wonderful. So she kept more of those bags of pus in here."

487817

>>487815
"Killed one of them, killed them all. We can handle it."

487818

>>487815
"…So, can we just trick them down into a pit? Get them out of the way. Otherwise, we'll need to have our frontliners wear the plague wards while the rest hurl the poison jars at them."

487819

>>487814
>>487809
"Eh….." I just scruched at their display of playfulness in such a situation.

>>487815
>>487816
"Eugghh… more icky stuff to touch with. Great."
I then look to Danner.
"So what is the plan?"

487821

>>487815
"We'll just have to stay far away when we face them, won't we?"

>>487814
Looks like I jumped out of your animal fingers with my beautiful human master race agility.

Rub Frost Cream's head while smirking.

487822

>>487818
>>487819
>>487821
"We really are a little short on advice."
"Those two terrify us. Seriously."

Whenever you feel #READY

487823

>>487822
"Well, nothing for it but to press on then, I suppose. This is the only way up, right?"

487824

487834

You enter the staircase hallway.
…and encounter some good news and bad news.
The good news is, you will not need to worry about the stair guards. Because they have been splattered across the walls in a rather artistic display of gore.
The bad news is, Handy is the one who did it. And he is still there, admiring the new parts he assimilated from the guards.

He seems bigger than before. More bloated.
He now has several sets of legs and a mass of arms wildly flailing on his back. Three heads turn to look at you. Two of them without eyes, the third without a mouth.
It slowly turns itself to face you entirely, arms reaching out to grasp some nearby pillars.
I… am… complete…
Free… me…

487837

>>487834
"Hardly. Out of the way, beast."

487838

>>487834

487839

487843

>>487834
Try to figure out how to put this into stasis while I slowly draw my wand.

487847

>>487837
It growls at you

From… this… prison…. of… flesh…
>>487840
Thinking quickly, you throw the lantern at some flammable looking woodwork and pull an Elemental out of the resulting blaze
>>487841
You hide among the pillars of the room
>>487842
You blast open the left head.
It flops down but soon looks back up again
Time… to… die…

You blast the pulsating remains of the beast, rending away flesh and bone, until it finally breaks its bonds and stands up again. It has now shed most of the countless limbs it had before. Without their weight it stands much more upright and tall, its heads looking around. Its belly and chest bulge horribly as if it were pregnant with a grown man. Its flesh knits itself back into shape before your eyes and its remaining limbs twitch with barely contained life.
