Dreamkicker has used his magic to vaporize a box and cause a landslide of tithes and wooden crates that block the staircase and force the two remaining vampires to fight the party.

You aren't able to make you spell works, but Hornbeard keeps you safe and does some damage to the two remaining vampires as well.

You leap forwards and use your massive jaws and paws to tear apart a vampire even as it turns to dust in your mouth.

Remedy made. Now all you need to do is have her take it.

Pleh. Vampire dust.
Should only be one left, right? Shouldn't be too hard to grab on and rake him to death. '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

I guess I'd better restring my bow.

I nail a vampire with my crossbow.

Roll #1 3 + 1 = 4

"Bad plan bad plan!"
I scurry away from the vampire mare and back to the party, where I heal Olga '1d10+2'

Roll #1 8 + 2 = 10

Pass it off to her then. "..try this."
I frown at the vampires "where do you think you are going?" '1d10' try to grab one with earthen grasp.

Roll #1 6 = 6

Not to hard at all if you can catch her. She jumps over your head and hits you before landing.

You pull a new string out of a pouch and carefully repair your crossbow.

You miss as she leaps into the air to avoid Brutus's crushing jaws.

You run away and heal Olga, even taking some of the ache out of her ancient bones.

Dreamkicker: 4/6 Hits 4/5 Wounds
Pomelo: 2/2 Hits 4/4 Wounds
Bessy: 5/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Brutus: 5/9 Hits 4/5 Wounds
Happyhorn: 2/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Andelia: 4/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds

Roll #1 9 = 9

Roll #1 6 + 2 = 8

Roll #1 7, 10 = 17

help the others hold this last vampire '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

I guess I'll take a potshot as well.

Roll #1 8 = 8

You ram the last vampire as she lands behind Brutus. Brutus follows up by slamming it away from you.

You are about to shoot but Bessy runs into your line of fire.

You slam the vampire out from in front of Bessy as she hits it. Bones crack as it hits a tall crate.

You try to fixes whatever went wrong, but your spell isn't strong enough.
Mend, DC8.

Hornbeard flashes with light as youy heal him. He also runs forwards and drives a long piece of wood through the vampires heart. It explodes into dust.

The last vampire is dead.

The party is in a large, poorly lit warehouse in the Temple district. The staircase that the vampires were fleeing towards has been buried under boxes and material tithes, but can be uncovered with some work.

"And where did our new friends go?"

I'll point towards the remaining minion, and the other two corpses.

"Uh…I rose one. I don't think they're coming back."

I sigh and relax. "Everyone okay?"
"Its medicine, but.. you seems okay now." empty it out.

"Is that all of them?…"
I frown.

"Ugh… I feel like I broke my food bin… or maybe my burp maker…"
Mend my insides '1d10+2'

Roll #1 3 + 2 = 5

"Well, no, of course not. They were running back to the nest.. too bad we couldn't capture one, but.. they were really hostile anyway."

"Well hey, waste not want not."

"Yeah. I don't think they were as good as they said if they got picked out this easily. Posting a bunch of fliers probably didn't help. I kinda wanted to talk to them."

You try to summon the power, but can't.

"So do we search their remains for our payment and leave? Or do we try to take them to a temple?"

"I guess we probably oughta try and bring 'em back in case they had a plan. I got no problem with being compensated for all this though, unless one of your books told you that was bad for some reason."

Bleh. Climb up on Bessy's back and slump over.
Let's see if a comfier spot helps '1d10'

"Maybe we can get one brought back for a short bit so we can interrogorate 'em?"

Roll #1 4 = 4

"Are all your comments tonight going to be phrased in the form of 'inane non-sequitur'?"

I'll just snort.

"Not enough big words for you, half-hair?"

I give a sad look.
"What's wrong Pommy?…"

I turn my attention to Pommy. Can I look at his insides to see what's hurt?

Roll #1 5 + 2 = 7

"Hey it's a pretty good half! You should give it a taste!"

"I'm feeling really really reaaaally tired. That fight must've took a lot outta me"

Once more? '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

"You and Olga should work something out about bringing the other two back." I suggest

He screwed up a powerful healing spell very badly and did some internal damage. Everything inside him is equally messed up.

Still no. Maybe a temple can help?

go up stairs and look around '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

I perk up with an idea.
"Ooh! I have an idea!"
I reach up and pluck off a hair from him, and drop it into a small mixing pot, and start mixing a Mending brew!

Roll #1 8 = 8

"Eh. He's not colorful enough for me."
I cock my head.
"You take a bad hit back there?"

"Nah, I can't really bring back much more than their bodies."

"You're hurt, Pommy. Maybe we should go see another priest."

Well, Bessy has this well in hoof, so I'm going to sniff around, see what I can't find amongst the dead. '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

"Who? "

point out the two vampire hunters bodies too you.

"Blue is a pretty color! And I dunno about a hit. I think I took a nap though. Woke up feeling all bleh and blugh"

"Alright. I'm too pooped to fix it."
Lay down on Bessy

You cannot go down the stairs because Dreamkicker blocked them by collapsing boxes full of material tithes.

You mix up a brew good for three casts.
You don't need to roll to dink it because you are out of combat.

Nothing useful. The bodies were all looted by the vampires.

I give it to Pommy.
"Here! Drink this!"

That was fast.
I'll drag the two non-minioned corpses to the others, and start digging through those boxes and debris so that we can pursue. '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

Scratch that, I drink it and attempt to heal Pomelo!

Roll #1 6 = 6

"Bluh. Maybe we should just stay here for the night."

If it isn't clear, I meant Mend by that.

"Got my portable bed with me. I'm good for a sleepover."

You drag the two undefiled corpses over to the party and start digging through the rubbish blocking the stairway.

Try again.

Try resurrecting one of them

Roll #1 10 = 10

Roll #1 5 = 5

Keep digging. '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

Roll #1 5 = 5

"Me too. Hopefully the others don't get smart and decide to come check up on the ones we all blasted."

"Hurry up, Bessy!"

'1d10' I guess I can help brutus clear the stairs.

Roll #1 4 = 4

Tap her on the back and smile
"Don't overdo it buddy. We'll take care of it in the morning."

"Are you sure you'll be okay?"

"That's it…"
I sit down on the ground and frown.

"I'm sorry I couldn't fix ya up little buddy…"

"That's okay, you tried as hard as you could."
Yawn and bury my face in her fur

A whirlwind fills the warehouse as the spirits become almost visible. The bodies of Bellmount and Jackson Evening stitch themselves back together then stand up even as life returns to their eyes.
"What happened?"

"You died."

"Oh, hey there. Welcome back."

"Wow. Nice job, old goat."

"Where are the vampires? Where are Stuffy and Wellsing?"

"The vampires had some kind of ..dark mist.. took us by surprise."

"Dead, dead, and dead."

I'll continue burrowing. '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

"Do buffaloes from your tribe naturally burrow when frightened or is that an individual response? What are you doing?"

'1d10' check out side.

Roll #1 1 = 1

I'll just stare blankly at him for a moment, and then huff and continue digging with my warg paws. '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

I sigh and give a sad smile at him.

"You mean the Prancian Pitch Powder?"

"How terrible."

No luck.

Something grabs you by the mane and pulls you up to the roof.
Everyone else will need to roll to notice this happened.

Roll #1 4 = 4

Did I see Andy get snatched up? '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

"You don't seem all that bothered. You die before?"

Roll #1 7 = 7

Roll #1 1 = 1

"You have witnessed my great powers first hand. "

Stand impressively

Roll #1 5 = 5 / Roll #2 10 = 10

Looking for Andelia~

Roll #1 10 = 10

'1d10' what, get away from the thing that grabbed me.

Roll #1 8 = 8

You are about halfway through the rubble blocking the stairs.

Neither of you notice anything.

Bellmount answers.
"It happen sometimes. Someone always brings me back."

You notice Andelia step outside then move very quickly in an upwards directions.

You are too busy looking wise and sagely to notice Andelia disappear.

You see
two large talons grab her and carry her off and hear the leathery flap of wings.

You struggle and fall to the ground outside the warehouse. Looking up you can see
a giant batmonster coming in for another attack.

I begin to ponder whether digging this out is worth the trouble. Then keep digging. '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

"Sounds like you got a friend somewhere."
I start.
"Whoa, hey! Andy just got snatched!"

Roll #1 3 = 3

"Gah! Something grabbed Andelia!"

Run outside and storm bolt it for three hits.

Roll #1 1 + 1 = 2

"What are you?" I'll try to stab it '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

I try to rush outside and sling some rocks at whatever's grabbing Andy!

Roll #1 6 = 6

"What? Grabbed her!?"

Glorify Bessy as she runs outside '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

"Curses! "

Go out and see if I get a better look.

Roll #1 7 = 7

You've got the idea that digging this out and continuing the pursuit of the vampires that attacked all of you and escaped would be a good idea, but who knows?

"Who did?"

You run outside and are immediately lifted up into the air by something large and batlike.
Roll to get free.

You hit the giant batmonster that grabbed her with a few stones. It dives down and tries to grab you.
Roll to dodge.

She is too far away to hear your words.

Dreamkicker: 4/6 Hits 4/5 Wounds
Pomelo: 2/2 Hits 4/4 Wounds
Bessy: 5/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Brutus: 5/9 Hits 4/5 Wounds
Happyhorn: 2/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Andelia: 4/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Olga: 5/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Hornbeard: 1/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds

You can see two giant batmonsters flying through the air. One of them is holding Dreamkicker and the other is diving towards Bessy.

Roll #1 8 = 8

Light my torch and wave it at the coming bay!

Roll #1 10 = 10

…What's everyone else up to? Andelia was helping me dig, where did she go? I'll pad outside.

>coming bat

"Something's out there! It grabbed her and…that's all I saw!"

Well then hobble out after her and-oh no bats
Shoot the one diving down at Bessy '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

"You let go of Andy!"
Throw more stones!

Roll #1 2 = 2

You buck in its grasp and break free before falling back to earth.

You wave the torch at the bat monster and manage to set it on fire before it can reach Bessy. It screeches and flies up into the air.

You try to stab at the flying monsters but they are all too far away, at least one one drops Dreamkicker and comes down to attack you. It slashes you with its claws and opens up a huge gash. You collapse.

You pad outside and see two giant bat monsters in the air. One is one fire and the other is attacking Andelia, Pomelo, and Bessy.

The bat monster picks Pomelo up with its claws and throws him at Bessy. Pomelo hits the ground hard with his head.

Dreamkicker: 4/6 Hits 4/5 Wounds
Pomelo: 0/2 Hits 3/4 Wounds
Bessy: 1/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Brutus: 5/9 Hits 4/5 Wounds
Happyhorn: 2/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Andelia: 0/5 Hits 4/5 Wounds
Olga: 5/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Hornbeard: 1/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds

I'll help Andelia up. '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

'1d10' try to get back up.

Roll #1 3 = 3

I growl at you as you go near Andy, but see you're going to help her up and run over to help Pommy up!

Roll #1 4 = 4

I rush over to Pommy and help him.

Roll #1 4 = 4

Oof! Try to get myself back on my hooves '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Shoot the one not on fire!

Roll #1 5 + 1 = 6

Brutus helps Andelia up and defends her from a batmonster that dives in to attack.

All of you crash into each other and Pomelo is unable to get up. A batmonster takes this opportunity to attack Bessy and Dreamkicker. Bessy is especially hurt and falls to the ground.

You clip it in the leg with your crossbow.

The two vampire hunters, both without weapons, hide in the warehouse.

Dreamkicker: 3/6 Hits 4/5 Wounds
Pomelo: 0/2 Hits 3/4 Wounds
Bessy: 0/5 Hits 4/5 Wounds
Brutus: 8/12 Hits 7/8 Wounds

Olga: 5/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Hornbeard: 1/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds

Previously on CQ2 the party was ambushed by vampires. They managed to fight off the vampires, but all four vampire hunters they had met were killed. After the battle Olga resurrected the two vampire hunter's who were still able to be resurrected. Andelia stepped out of the warehouse to get some fresh air and was promptly picked up by some kind of giant bat monster. The party eventually learned that she was missing and went outside where they found Andelia and two bat monsters.

Both of the bat monsters, now wounded, break off the fight and fly deeper into the Temple district.

So… they're gone?
I'll help Bessy up.
Since we're out of combat this shouldn't need a roll, correct?

I dust myself off and pick myself up.
"Is everypony still here?"

"Ugh.. I think so. Where the heck did those things go?"

The bat creatures are currently leaving. The party can still see them.

But they're out of combat range.
"So, are we chasing after them?"

I reluctantly take his help.
"Yeah! We gotta find out where they're going!"

"I wouldn't feel right leaving 'em free to attack anyone else.."

"Go go gogogogo!"

"I think we scared them off."

I turn to everyone else.

"Listen – that's a perfect example of why you mustn't wander off! From now on we're sticking together."

"And go deeper into the district at night, practically blind? We need to find out where the rest of the vampires were running off towards. Let's go look around the basement they were moving towards."

I'll grimace slightly.
"It was just a hole to the outside. I stopped digging through once everyone else made it through the front door."

"So they'd be long gone by now?"

"Or they were the bat monsters we just chased off."
I'll look around a moment.
"Are we all in one piece? Was anyone bitten?"

"No! But we gotta go before they fly away too far and we lose sight of them!"
I start chasing after the bat monsters.

Roll #1 4 = 4

"They were headed down when I collapsed their exit. We can easily move the debris and find where they were going.

"That is undoubtedly where their nest is. And if we find that, we can be a little closer to finding out what's going on in this city."

I start heading back into the warehouse.

"So unless there are any important points you wish to raise, I suggest we start moving."

"Grr. Bessy! Get back here!"

I'll look between the two.
"I suppose we're chasing Bessy, then."
And I'll try and keep up with Bessy. '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

I hold on tight to her back

"But they'd lead us right to the same thing that much faster!"

"Or they'd lead us on a wild chase away while the survivors move the nest."

"Fine. Run!"

Let's go after her.

Roll #1 10 = 10

The two of you lose sight of the bat monsters, but they are flying in a straight line. If you continue you might be able to catch up. Suddenly, Dreamkicker quite literally zaps past all of you.

You take off running after your intellectually challenged friends. You have the bright idea to try and propel your hooves with telekinesis as you run, but something goes wrong. You can feel electricity course through your legs as you quickly pass Bessy and keep pace with the bat monsters. You quickly arrive in a large circular plaza. On the west side of the plaza you can see a tall temple with a giant golden sun design on its front. On the east side of the plaza you can see a similar temple whose roof is covered in silver that gleams in the moonlight. In the center of the plaza, surround by a tall iron fence, is a very large ruined building. The moonlight doesn't touch anything beyond the fence as well as it does in the rest of the plaza and all of the trees around the ruin are withered.
One of the bat monsters flies into the ruin. The other grabs a large clump of bricks from a chimney and throws is at a gaurdhouse. Five ponies run out of it and are divebombed by the bat monster.

Catch up with that unicorn. '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

"There, in the ruin!"

Look around the plaza. How close are we to any of the occupied temples?

"Whoa. Who knew he had it in him."

You arrive and see the temples and ruin that Dreamkicker sees. You can also see one of the bat monsters attacking five ponies near a guardhouse.

The moon temple is closer than the sun temple. But there are plenty of temples with tightly closed doors all around the edge of the plaza.

"We know where they went. Before we go in, let's get help for Pommy at the Moon Temple."

"W-Wow! Was that Dreamy!?"

"I didn't."
Well, then that means we've got to help.
"You do that, I'm going to help those guards."
Head over there and activate Guardian. Sentry makes it automatic.

"I didn't know he could move that fast!"
I catch up with him.

Roll #1 6 = 6

You run over to the guards and place yourself between them and the bat monster. You recognize the Inquisitor mare from the mansion. There is also a pony in he same outfit that the henchponies that went into the mansion with your wore. The other three are city guard. The mare snaps at you.
"What are you doing out here at night, fool?"

You run to the plaza and see all the temples. You can also see an armored buffalo and five ponies facing off against a bat monster.

I help too! Cursed arrow!

Roll #1 8 + 1 = 9

"Would you believe hunting vampires?"
Hurl my shield at the divebombing bat creature. '1d10+1'

Roll #1 7 + 1 = 8

"Grr. Stupid guards."

Shock the bat with a lightning bolt!

Roll #1 4 + 1 = 5

Shoot the bat with my slingshot! '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

Your arrow strikes the bat monster in the neck and sinks into its skin.

Your shield hits it in the face and breaks a few of its teeth.
"Wait, I know your voice. You are Brussles, the buffalo that got so many of my companions killed at the mansion. What are you doing hunting vampires?"
She hits the vampire in the chest with a throwing knife. Her henchpony tries to keep the guards from running.

Your lightning bolt's course is altered by the iron fence. You miss.

Your stone hits one of the bat monster's wings and breaks it. The bat monster tumbles to the ground.

I shoot it with my crossbow. Gotta be easier now that it's on the ground.

Roll #1 10 + 1 = 11

"It's Brutus, and I wasn't directly responsible for that."
Slam the downed bat with my shield. '1d10+1'

Roll #1 6 + 1 = 7

Yeah! Shoot 'em again!

Roll #1 8 + 1 = 9

One more shot! '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

Shoot it with my cannon!

Roll #1 7 = 7

You slam the beast to the ground as it tries to limp away.

You shoot it in the claw, pinning it where it is.

You break it's other with with your next shot.

You cover the bat monster with festive party gear.

And you snap the head off one of your bolts and shook the slender piece of wood into where you think it's heart might be. It starts turning to dust, but the part of its neck that was hit by Happyhorn's cursed arrow pulses purple.

You can feel your control extend to the bat monster.

The Inquisitor mare keeps throwing knifes at it.

"I think it's dead…"

"Is it…?"

Look at it. Is it still moving?

"Even better! It's mine!"
I have it get up and come on over.

"Yours? How do you mean? Like the corpses you raise?"

The inquisitor mare scowls at you.

"Answers. Now. What are you all doing out here at night. Explains these vampire monsters."

"Simple. There was a small group of Vampire hunters that met at sunset. We decided to attend the meeting, exchange notes."
I'll shake my head.
"As luck would have it, they were attacked by a group of vampires that very evening. They doused the room in some sort of darkness powder, and killed the other four hunters in the span of a few moments. This bat monster is, I'm assuming, one of the few vampires that escaped us."

"Oh lighten up. At least it's not eating you anymore."

"We signed up for a job to hunt them and then they attacked us so we followed them and now here we are!"

I nod my head furiously
"What he said!"

"So uh… you gonna ride around on it like the last one you had?"

Her scowl lessens.
"Those fools are dead? Serves the right for not accepting our invitation to work for us. The darkness powder could have been bought or stolen from any number of places, but those bat monsters?"
She shakes her head.
"It takes a vampire with at least some amount of skill to do that. Not the scum that has been stalking the streets."

One of the guards is trembling.
"I-i-i-i-it went into the ruins. D-d-do you think that is where they n-n-n-nest?"

The mare laughs at him.
"Don't be stupid. The vampires are smarter than that."

She rolls her eyes.
"We had it under control."

She grunts.
"Ugh. Those idiots deserved every bit of what they got."

"I'm thinkin' about it."

"We brought two of them back, while the other two were consumed. It seems they have a habit of dying."
I'll shake my head.
"And inquisitor, wouldn't it make a sort of ironic sense to hide under the noses of the ones pursuing you?"

"If that's not where their nest is, why's it tryin' to go in there?"

"They hardly seemed clever enough for a trap."

It's where they nest, but most certainly a trap.

I look at both of them and shake my head
"Make up your minds already!"

"Well then all we need to do is watch out for traps."

"Well, I'm sure they'll make better decisions this time. As for them hiding in there?"
She laughs.
"Don't be ridiculous. Nothing living or unliving hides in there. That's because almost nothing that goes inside ever comes out. The few that have almost always come out insane. Besides, guards patrol the fence night and day. They would know if vampires are coming and going."
She wheels around and snarls at the guards.

They all step back and look away from her.
"Oh yes."
"Ever vigilant."

"Because it was desperate, obviously. That's the only reason anything would ever flee into the Temple of the Sisters."

"Don't underestimate them."

"Are you really thinking of going in there?"

"The Temple of the Sisters?" What's that?"

"If we can't flush them out or seal them off."

"We think that the vampires we encountered were attempting to escape through a tunnel system. That would explain why you don't see anything come or go, normally.

"Your guards' poor vigilance would explain the rest."

"What if they were mad before they went in?"

She looks at you with a blank expression for a few seconds.
"It's a temple. Dedicated to the sisters. You know, your Equestrian ones? As a side note, also the place where the shadow that destroyed most of the city and killed most of its inhabitants originated from when your night pegacorn went insane!"

"You really are thinking of going in there, aren't you?"

"Tunnels make more sense. It would also explain the disappearing sewage workers better than our swamp-thing theory."

"That's…entirely possible. Still though, I cannot see how they could all survive in there."

I tilt my head at her
"What's so weird about it that drives people insane?"

"That's what I was asking about! The entire temple is dangerous?"

"The inquisition also wasn't aware of how that thing in the manor basement could have survived this long."
I'll shrug.
"Still, we are open to helping clear it out… for the right price."

"They talk about a wind and voices. Nothing else they say makes any sense."

"As far as anyone knows."

"Ha! If you can clear out whatever is in that temple I'm sure the people of this city would instal all of you as the new rulers of this city."

"Who in their right mind would want that?"
I'll chuckle."

I raise my hoof.

I look into the past and try to see when the shadow first formed.

Roll #1 6 + 2 = 8

"Why would you want to rule a city?"

"Who knows why she wants to do half the stuff she does?"

I waggle my eyebrows in tandem with the bat monster.

I'll just raise an eyebrow.
"You're an odd goat, little one."

I giggle.
"Ooh! Do something else in sync!"

I stick out my tongue

Your fourth eye opens. The plaza around you is much the same, although it is crowded with ponies and ostriches, neither the sun or moon temple have been built, and the temple of the sisters is intact and nothing around it is dead or dark. Impatient to get to something goo, you speed up time and watch the sun as it slowly dips towards the horizon. Suddenly, though, the sun stops. You return the time of flow to normal just in time to watch the sun jerk backwards on its path, then forwards, then backwards, then side to side. The ponies and ostriches in the plaza are too busy watching the sun's antics with dropped jaws to begin panicking as the sun rockets up to its noon position and hangs there.

That is when the screaming starts inside the temple. The roof and its many tall domes and spires collapse, and from the plume of dust and debris spreads an inky black shadow. Tendrils of it shoot down into the ground, and everything they touch things start to die or melt into the darkness. As more and more people die large chunks break away from the shadow in the sky and slip into other parts of the city.

Your vision ends.

I waggle our ears now.

The bat monster sticks out its tongue.

"So they come out talking about a bunch of hot air?"

I stifle a laugh

Can I look again at what parts of the city the parts of the shadow went to?

Roll #1 4 + 2 = 6

"Was that a joke? I hate jokes."

You see the shadow slowly descend over the entire city. Even the section of the city that is walled off in this time, but not in the past. However, that sector of the city is the first place it spreads to.

hm. Did part of the shadow break off and settle in these ruins?

Roll #1 8 + 2 = 10

I frown
"Do you ever even smile?"

"It's probably not in the job description."

"How can you hate jokes?! That's like… that's horrible!"

The main part of it never left. Instead, a thick, tree-like shadow connected it to the darkness hanging over the city. A few days after the shadow appeared a group of ponies, ostriches, and other species over a hundred strong charge the temple. they cut down the shadow-tainted people and monsters around it and stream inside. After a few hours the shadowy tree flickers then vanishes. You can see tiles ripped off roofs as wind rushes to fill the void where the shadow pillar was, and wisps of moonlight are pulled along with the wind into the ruins. Eventually, less than a dozen people leave the temple. In the moths follow the shadow is fought and pushed into one section of a city. The fighting continues as a wall is hastily built over the course of weeks, then a bigger wall built over that one until it looks exactly like the one that exists today. Pegasi generate a massive storm cloud over the wall and use to to place a cap over the contained part of the city.

"I used to. that was when my coworkers were still alive."

"Jokes are a waste of time."

The party chased a pair of bat monsters into the center of the Temple District. One of them flew into a very large, ruined, fenced off temple in the center of a plaza and the other attacked some ponies in a guard house near the fence. The party met one of the inquisitors, and earth pony mare, while fighting. After the fighting Happyhorn was able to raise the bat monster as a minion. When they expressed interest in chasing the bat monster into the temple the inquisitor told them they would probably die and explained that this temple is where the horror that attacked the city centuries ago originated from.

Well, considering we could "probably die" walking down the street, it shouldn't be any different from any other day.

"It seems we know, then, why the vampires are multiplying. Perhaps we should talk to the twins. They might know more."

"But are they gonna know about this place? Maybe they'd have some books or somethin' laying around that can help.."

"Oh yeah! It's nighttime so they should be awake!"

Your call.

The inquisitor looks at you.
"Twins? Those scholars you mentioned earlier?"

"Why would they be awake during the night?"

"Yes… the scholars."

"And they're very… eccentric."

"They… work the night shift!"

"O- Oh!- uh- they- they're very… they have very sensitive eyes! They don't like bright light very much!"

"Very well. Will you need an escort to their house?"

"I think we'll be fine."

"They live in the nature temple, so it shouldn't be too dangerous getting there."

"They live out in the nature temple so we should be able to get there just fine so no thank you we don't need an escort!"
I scrunch up and avoid their look.

Shake my head furiously

"Let's get there quick while we have time."

Hop on Bessy's back and make myself comfortable

"Very well. You are some of the few who I believe would be safe at night."

"The nature temple? How odd."

"Let's go."

"It is an odd city, or so I hear."

Off you all go.

Everyone roll once you start the journey.

"True enough."

Roll #1 6 = 6

"You're tellin' me!"

Roll #1 8 = 8

"Er- did I say the nature temple? I meant… the… uh- Gat- Gator Ten-Pile! Yeah! That's the name of their house- lab- labhouse! That's… there's a bunch of alligators there and there's only one safe passage there and-"

"A- And we're gonna be going now!"

Cheap shot one of them in the legs with my slingshot '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

You Try to strike one of them, but it is too nimble and leaps out of the way.

The vampire that dodges Brutus leaps into your and bashes your head against a building before you can attack.

You miss, but the two that Dreamkicker smushed together are too busy untangling themselves to attack you.

Dreamkicker: 4/6 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Pomelo: 5/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds
Brutus: 9/9Hits 5/5 Wounds
Bessy: 5/5 Hits 5/5 Wounds

So it's going to be like that, is it? Well, the others can get the loose one, I'll Slam the two that are tangled together. '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

I shoot the one that bashed me!

Roll #1 8 + 1 = 9

I don';t remember, do I have a skeleton up?

Grr… attack one of the two that are tangled up '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

Smoke shot at the largest group of them!

Roll #1 5 + 2 = 7

They break apart and scamper out of the way seconds before you hit them.

You shoot one of the vampires in the neck. It hisses at you out of the hole your bolt made.

One of them, now free, hits you in the face.

You hit the group.
+1 against the vampires for the next two turns.

Dreamkicker: 4/6 Hits 5/5 Wounds

You charge into the vampires. Your hoof crushes one one their chests and the vampire explodes into dust.

You inspire your friends to kick the butt of these dumb vampires.
+1 to all actions next round.

He slides under your chin, tears off some of your armor, and latches onto your neck.
Roll to get him off.

"Get off him you creep!"
Rush up to the vampire latched onto Brutus and hit it with my boxing glove cannon '1d10+1'

Roll #1 7 + 1 = 8

Shock him!

Roll #1 7 + 3 = 10

"Pommy you stay away from him!"
I frown and fire off a Marksman Shot at one of the other vampires.

Roll #1 4 + 2 = 6

Relax and watch the rest of the party beat down the vampire.

Dreamkicker shocks the legs out from under the vampire while Brutus jumps into the air and bodyslams it. The vampire is reduced to a red paste which turns to dust.

Vampires defeated.

"Well that was easy enough. On to the nature temple."

Shake off the vampire dust, and keep going.

You all arrive at the forest. It is too dark to see anything under the trees.

Down to the twins' place. We need to talk.

Sniff a bit. Nothing smells off, does it? '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

Light that torch I bought.

"Maybe this was a bad idea.. Can't we go somewhere nice and safe and not full of weirdos?"

Can I hear anything going on?
Does it sound like another party?

Roll #1 6 = 6

It all smells fine, even to your buffalo nose.

You walk into the darkness.

The light does not penetrate far into the forest.

You can hear an owl hooting in the forest.

"It's really quiet out here… did something happen?"

"Well, let's get going to that broom closet. Needs blood to open, if I remember right."

Try lighting it better?

Roll #1 2 = 2

Roll #1 8 = 8

You nearly snuff out your lantern before realizing that the trees are probably keeping your light from moving very far into the forest.

You light your lantern.

Well okay then.

Can I send my skeleton out to walk in front as we slowly move forward?

"Shouldn't someone have come out to greet us? Or at least shake their hoof at me for being what I am? Something doesn't feel right…"

"Why don't we just go through if we're gonna go?"

"Yeah… we're not gonna find out anything just standing here!"
I hop into the temple.

Are you guys going to go into the forest or not?

"We are, I'm just curious. It seems strange."
I'll be quiet for a moment.
"You don't think… the twins' influence has something to do with this?"

Seems that way

Go along since I'm on her back

Yep. That's where the entrance to the twins' place is, right?

You all enter the forest. It is very dark without any light from the stars or moon, but with your two lanterns you are all able to make it to the temple. A guard spots you all and opens the doors.
"You are all out late."

"Not much choice, unfortunately. On the bright side, the local feral vampire population is down a good dozen."

"We need to talk to the twins…"

"Well it's a lovely night for a stroll canwepleasegoinside?"

"Important matters, you know. Are you going to let an old biddy like me wait out here in the dark?"

"Really? How?"

"Great! I love talking about the twins!"

He grins.
"I dunno, don't you like it out here at night?"

"Of course not. The door is pen, come in."

Let's go inside.

"They tried to ambush us."
I'll note he said "about" the twins, not "to."
Then head inside.

"About the twins? We need to talk to the twins!"

The inside is lit by torches and starlight. There aren't many people around.

"Oh geez, and you are all okay? Did any of you get bit?"

He rubs his eyes.
"Oh, my bad. Long shift."

"Yes of cou-NO! It's dumb and full of bitey stuff!"

Follow him inside

"Possibly. I think Pomelo might have been, so we're getting that checked out."

He laughs.

"Okay. Head into the greenhouses to find a healer."

"C'mon Pommy, let's go get you healed."
I head to the greenhouse.

And head in after the others.

Let out a burp

Smack him on the head.

"Face SOUTH when you burp!"

You head through the holes in the wall until you find the greenhouses. There are some ponies working inside.

You follow them inside. The inside of the temple is mostly empty of people and lit by torches and starlight.

"Can somepony here heal my little buddy?!"
I gesture up to Pomelo.

"Ow! I'm already feeling beat from earlier, you don't have to make it worse!"

"Of course."
A mare walks over to him and wave her hooves over his head.
"There. All done."

It just seems… odd. Seemed much more… lively during the day. Though I suppose that makes sense. Still, something just doesn't feel right. Probably the vampires in the basement, and my own wargishness at odds.

You be the vampires ate everyone.

Well, we already know their unregulated feedings have been enthralling everyone. Can't really blame me for being suspicious.

"A beating to beat the nasty out of a kid!"

Head towards the Twins' entrance.

Hop up and give a big ol' stretch
"Thanks! I'm feelin muuuuch better!"

"It didn't work! But I'm feelin' better now anyway so there!"
Stick my tongue out at her

I turn to Pommy.
"You feeling any better little buddy?"

You find the broom closet.

"You're welcome."
She goes back to picking fruit.

I'm going to follow the unicorn. Broom closet ahoy.

Push Dreamkicker aside and go in.

You follow Dreamkicker into the closet.

Search around for the real entrance.

Roll #1 10 = 10

"Mmhm! Now let's go back to Dreamy and the others."

You fail to push the unicorn. maybe he's been eating too many of Pomelo's cakes.

You find the part of the broom closet you are supposed to bleed on.

I grab hold of Brutus and try to prick his hoof.

"Put your hoof there."

"Where are they though?"
I go searching for them!

Roll #1 4 = 4

"First off, no. Second, use your own blood for this lock. It might react poorly to mine."

You have found the entrance, in a broom closet, to the Twin's hidden area. All you need to do now is provide some fresh blood to power that magic that will let you pass.

>Everyone else

You are in the greenhouses searching for Dreamkicker.

I keep searching for DK!
I hope nothing bad's happened to him…

Roll #1 1 = 1

I search things.

Roll #1 5 = 5

Head back towards the entrance to see if he's still waiting there

'1d10' ?

Roll #1 5 = 5

You search around the greenhouses for Dreamkicker, but cannot find him. You go over to a group of priests to ask if they know where he is and spot fangs in the mouths of two of them.

You both find Dreamkicker. He is in the closet.

You cannot see him in the large room at the front of the temple, but you do spot Happyhorn and Andelia going to the living area where the priests eat and sleep.

"Dreamkicker, is something wrong?"

Follow after them

"Time to come out of the closet, smartybutt!"

So, ih what, fresh blood?

You follow them and find them talking to the closeted Dreamkicker.

Fresh blood, yes.
Hornbeard taps you on the shoulder.
"Mis- Olga, may we speak privately?"

What are they saying to me?

"U- Uh… I'll just be going nooow…"
I leave.
Are they following me?

Lead us to a corner somewhere.

Squeeze in between Andelia and Happyhorn
"Hi Dreamy! I'm feeling all better now."

"Dreamkicker, are you okay?"

"Bye, see you at the party!"

He shuffles on his hooves.
"I'm…thank you for letting me serve you for so long, and thank you for giving me new life and a new body. I have no wish to sound ungrateful but do you think I could…stay here, for a while? Not in this temple, specifically, but somewhere where I can meditate and try to remember who I was?"

I squeeze Pomelo.

"Good. I was worried."

I go find DK now.

"No, now that Pomelo is healed. But we need to talk to the Twins. Maybe they know more about this evil spirit… thing."

You follow a trail of confetti and find Pomelo, as well as everyone else.

"Hiya DK! What'cha doin' in the closet?"

"Yes, let's all just crowd in here and ask me what I'm doing."

I sigh, prick my left hoof, and open the doorway.

"Of course. As of now, you are unbound from me. You need not worry about your past life, for you have a whole new one ahead! Of course, should you wish for guidance, I will be here longer, and you are free to travel as you see fit."

is it night time?

"Oh can we? That sounds cozy."

Yeah, it's still nighttime.

He bows.
"Thank you, Olga. I will seek you out if I have questions."
He turns and walks away into the temple.

You feel the skin on your hooof tear as more blood is sucked out to power the magic. Eventually the sucking stops and the back wall sinks down and reveal s a set of stairs leading into the darkness.

Wave him off, then return to the blood thing. Light my torch for the dark.

Down to the Twins' lair.

Take a deep breather and walk down!

Follow the others down. I need to see the twins anyway.

Down we go…

Your light shines down the staircase and illuminates the landing.

You all go down into the first room of the labyrinth that leads to the Twins. Each wall here has a number of doors on it, and all of you remember that every door but the correct one is trapped. A pony dressed up in a suit of armor greets all of you.
"Hi! We could have sworn you guys never got the invitation, but I'm glad you all made it! Where are your costumes?"

"I'm a goat!"

I pull my poncho up over my head
"Uh… boo?"

"…" hold up one of those fox masks that I bought for the twins to my face and tilt my head.

Party Survival up a costume!

Roll #1 1 = 1

"I came as Dreamkicker. Dreamkicker came as me!" I point at Bessy.

Roll #1 2 = 2

The pony looks at you closely.
"That's a great costume!"

"Aww, that's cute!"

You spin around to try and pull a costume out of thin air, but come face to face with
the fanged ponies from earlier. One of them has red dripping down their chin.

"Do you need help with your costume?"

She puts a hoof on your forehead.
"Are you feeling okay, Dreamkicker?"

Stay quiet, still, stern and hope I look like something.

"I- I'm fine thankyouverymuch!"
I duck and hide underneath Pomelo and cover my eyes.

"No. I need to talk to the twins."

"It really is! You can't tell I'm supposed to be a guy goat!"

"Um right, are the Twins at the party?"

You try to hide under Pomelo but throw him into the air. He lands on your back with a loud pomf.

"Did they get you sick or something? I thought they couldn't spread diseases."

She laughs.
"You're like the fifth goat that has come through here pretended to be the other gender. What is up with you guys?"

She rolls her eyes.
"Where else would they be? Parties are what they live for, er, you know what I mean. They like parties. They even changed this one up a bit for you guys."

"Yes. I have a fever, and the only cure is talking to them. Where are they?"

"Ah, great! Tell them Andelia is here, and can't wait to see their costumes. "

"We're awfully horny."

"I- Is the vampire gone Pommy?…"

"What a weird fever. They're in their place like they always are, but if you are sick maybe you should wait until the party is over?"

"Why not tell them yourself? Do you not want to go to the party."

She laughs and claps you on the back.
"You're great! I like you!"

I blindly crawl up on Bessy's back towards her head
"I… I think so?"

Roll #1 4 = 4

"Oh, of course. Please take me there, and my friends too, Dreamkicker is just eager to dance, you know that new song about a dance fever? That's what he means!" I smile and follow them.

Chuckle at the thought of Dreamkicker dancing in public

I grimace at the thought of dancing in front of a bunch of plebs

To the party area, I suppose.

Your goatee has grown long enough to make you look liek a sage instead of a wise-nanny.

She slowly nods her head.
"Ohhhhh! Of course! Now, the labyrinth got turned into a funhouse for the party so for this night only you can go directly through the room. Take the door right behind me and you'll get there."

"Thanks!" Go inside the door.

"Oh. Okay!"
I hop back up.

"Huh? Is DK gonna do that dance he likes to do when he thinks me and Pommy aren't home?"

"Maybe, but we need to get there first."

The ponies are still there.
"Are you alright?"

You walk through the door and appear in the final room before the Twin's large chamber. To the north is an open door through which you can see many costumed races partying, playing, eating, drinking, dancing, and generally ahving a good time. To the east is the exit of the labyrinth. An animated skeleton is holding a sign that says [14]HAUNTED HOUSE[/14]

An animated skeleton is holding a sign that says HAUNTED HOUSE

What's the skeleton look like?

I walk through the door!

You walk through the door and spot a diamond dog skeleton spinning the sign around.

You walk through the door and see everything Andelia sees.

..oh, try the north room where the party is.

"Yeah, I'm pretty great. So what's going on in there?"

I follow.

Follow her to the party!

Quickly start muttering a prayer over the house.

I rock back and forth with excitement
What kind of costumes are these temple people wearing?

It's not an actual house. It is the exit of the labyrinth that guards the passage to the Twin's place.
You see the Twins appear and very quickly drag Happyhorn and his bat monster minion into the haunted house.

You walk through the door and very quickly realize that this is the Nightmare Night festival. Despite the history of this city most of the people here are enjoying themselves bobbing for apples, launching pumpkins at walls and mouthy pegasi, playing games, and having a good time. People are dressed up as knights, spies, local celebrities, other races, monsters, skeletons, ghosts, and various other things.

The Twins appear in front of you, one wearing a large wig and fake mustache, and the other wearing a frilly pink dress and holding a sparkly wand. They open their mouths then vanish.

You walk through the door and appear in the room the other appeared in and see everything Andelia saw. The others are in the main room ahead of you,
but before you can do anything the twins, wearing rediculous costumes, appear in front of you. Without speaking a word they drag you through the door of the "haunted house" and take you past several twists and turns before you can do anything but blink. The one in the dress firmly presses you against the wall. They start to speak at the same time but break apart halfway through.
"Doing here?"
"Where did you get it?"

I sigh and try to find where they vanished too '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

"Wonderful. So I suppose we're playing 'chase the weirdo twins' for tonight's festivities?"

I help with a good ol' see-'ems spell.

Roll #1 1 + 3 = 4

"Are we?"
I go snooping around for them!

Roll #1 10 = 10

"What, the bat thing? We fought it and shot it up. It came outta the sky and tried to take Dandy."

"They aren't weird, just playful."

"Hi- Oh, where'd they go?"
Look left and right

"We should ask them if they have any more of those sweet mustaches."

You cannot see them anywhere in the party room. The only places you can think of that they may have gone are to the back area or to the labyrinth.

You accidentally cast you mind back to one of the parties the Twins had.
Roll to contain your blush.

Your buffalo senses tell you to check out the haunted house, about halfway into it.

"Who is Dandy?"
"What part of the sky?"
"Were there others?"
"Did they say any thing?"
"Was anyone bit?"

You cannot find them, but you do spot a donkey doing face painting.

Go to the back area.

Oh m-my

Roll #1 8 = 8

Well here I go.
Into the 2spooky haunted house!

Make a note of the donkey but stay on Bessy's back and let her lead

You go to the back area. The party is a bit more leisurely back here, with the exception of what looks like a scavenger hunt going on. Cobwebs decorate the walls and you find people talking casually.

You quickly pull your mind back into the present before you can see too much, leaving your face unblushed but your feathers a bit ruffled.

You walk through the door. There is a fake pony with an axe in its skull holding a sign that says AXE ME A QUESTION

You see everything she does.

I find Pommy and Bessy and stick close to them.

Well.. I guess they aren't here. '1d10' check to be sure they aren't hiding in here.

Roll #1 2 = 2

I giggle and knock on its head.
"Do you have a splitting headache?"

I scowl a bit at you.

I stick my tongue out at you.

"Uh, okay wow. I don't think I have that many hooves. Let's see…Andy the druid, I'm pretty sure it was somewhere over by the warehouses, I don't think so, and I don't think so? We weren't followed back here."

You follow them into the haunted house and see everything they see. This place is pretty tacky considering it was put together by vampires.

The pony laughs at your question.
A chest falls out of the ceiling and lands in front of you.

They manage to turn even more pail and one disappear for a second. It reappears a moment later.
"She is fine now."
"Which warehouses?"
"Lots of them here."
"Are you sure you weren't followed?"
"Can you guess at how many?"

You open the door of one of the bedrooms. You are pushed into the room and land on your side, letting you see one of the Twins wearing a wig and mustache. She sniffs you then disappears.

I open the chest!

"Yeah…lotta them here I dunno where exactly. We did see a normal one, but it ran away before we could do anything to him. The big ones just dropped out of the sky, but we took care of them both. Sorry."

I just stare at the chest curiously

You bend down to open the chest. The top springs out and you are nearly blinded by a bright light before a skeleton pops out!

They both look annoyed by your answers.
"That is fine."
"Back to the party."
"Please leave your minion somewhere else."
"It might disturb our friends."
The quickly carry both of you back to the entrance of the haunted house then run through the door leading to the temple.

rolling to not be scared/be bemused

Roll #1 1 = 1

Rolling to fake being scared!

Roll #1 4 = 4

Scared like a kid or unfazed like a big strong billy? '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

You scream like a little filly and pass out.

Your fake scream is covered up by a screaming filly somewhere behind y-oh wait that was Dreamkicker.

You jump like a billy kid.

I poke DK with a hoof.
"DK…? It was just fake! It wasn't a real skeleton!"

R-rolling to wake up ;_;

Roll #1 1 = 1

I stare at Dreamkicker
"Dreamy? You… you okay?"
Shake him awake '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

I shrug and go see what fun I can find after dismissing my minion.

Roll #1 5 = 5

He doesn't respond.

Your mind becomes stuck in the past with the partying Twins and their friends. you cannot stop your blush this time as both the twins single out a priest and-

Dreamkicker finally wakes up.

You find Bessy and Pomelo poking a very embarrassed Dreamkicker.

I wipe the sweat from my brow.

"W-what new devilry was that?"

Put the skeleton back neatly.

I look at DK with immense confusion.
"Are you… okay DK? You kinda went all shrieky and then passed out at that little scare… maybe you should go back to the party? I think this haunted house might be a bit too spooky for you."
I pat him on the head.

"I think it was a toy. You know, like the ones they sell in shops for little kids…?"
I help him up

"Hey, we making sure he has all his hair again?"

"It must just be fatigue. I'll be fine."

I lean on Pommy a bit.

The skeleton folds back into the chest, which launches itself back into the ceiling.

The Twins appear at the entrance to the haunted house.
"It's Nightmare Night!"
"We heard you met some people."
"Tell us about it."
"In private."

I jump back from their sudden appearance.
"W- Where'd you two come fro- huh? What do you mean?"

"He still has it all! I made sure not to chew any off… again… Just this place is a little too spooky for him is all."

Wave at them
"You two sure like poofing around like that."

"Isn't that the point?"

"And where in this den of grime and sin would we fine a 'private' place?"

Squint and stare at her
"…Yes. Yes it is."

One of them slams the door shut and zaps it with their horn.

"It's exhausting."
"Makes us hungry."
"More important things now."

"Tell us ab.""Out the vampires."

"The vampires…? From the warehouse? How'd you guys find out about that?"

I squint and stare back…than boop his nose

"He brought one here."
"As a minion."

"Oh! Uh, we went to go answer a job offer looking for people to hunt down some vampires, and when we got to the warehouse they told us to meet us at we met a bunch of vampire hunters! And then we were attacked by vampires… but we took care of them! Well, most of them I think…"

I scurry backwards while rubbing my nose
"Watch what you're touchin' me with!"

"Well they're weird, they finish each others sentences, and blink around like crazy. Oh hey."

"More importantly, they flew into the temple ruins nearby. That's why we came here to speak to you. I suspect that the vampires are connected to the evil spirit that attacked this city almost a thousand years ago."

I snigger.

"Oh yeah…most of the hunters didn't make it though."

"Where were the warehouses?"
"Did the vampires follow you?"
"What did they look like?"
"Did they say anything?"
"Where did they come from?"

"Not us."
"The ones you fought."

"What happened to the bodies?"
"Were they bit?"

"Uh… the warehouses were can I just assume that Bessy knows and tells them? Because I honestly completely forget where it was.

"And they just looked… really scary! Great big fangs and they looked all pale and ugly! And uh, they didn't say anything to us, just attacked! And I don't think they followed us."

I shake my head.
"No…I don't think so. None of them looked like it at least."

"That close?"
"Did you see where they ran to?"
"How ugly?"
"If they try to follow we will know."

"Very good."

"Ohh. Yeah they came outta nowhere. I don't think those hunter guys got bit, but I'm pretty sure their bodies are still where we left 'em."

"They attempted to retreat underground, but we prevented them from doing so. Several bat creatures attacked us from the air, however, and then retreated to the ruins."

"What they said!"

"Very good."
"Sorry for the freak out."
"Being found would be bad."
"For our friends."
"And us."
"Want to get back to the party?"

"The middle temple?"
"And bad."
"Very bad."
"So how about that party you are missing?"
"It's great."

"But you're the ones who started making us miss the party to answer your questions- or was that us when we wanted to ask you something? I forget…"

I nod my head
"Yeah… but um.. we also wanted to know if you had some books on something."
I turn to Dreamkicker

"Now isn't the time for parties… twins! What do you know about those ruins?"

"Can't party if there are bad things around, children! Now tell me about the bad things! "

"Yeah, I bet…but all this is kinda downing me out."

"They have snacks in there already."

"Not for that! I have my own snack anyway!"
Tap the side of my bag where the butt book is stored

"Whoa now. That's no snack, that's a gourmet meal. I hope you have a recipe for that."

"We were worried about our friends."
"And evil vampires maybe eating them."
"We apologize."
"How rude of us."

"A good amount."
"We are working on getting more."

"They are bad."
"Things die in there."
"We want to go in there."
"There is a power in there."
"It looks so good."
"Too good."
"We know a trap when we see one."
"The other might not see so well."
"Probably not."
"They are very stupid."

"Games will cheer you up."
"Or drinks."
"Or food."
"Or dancing."
"Or a snack."
Their stomachs growl.

"So you don't think this 'power' is the source of the other vampires?"

"Can we look at them?"

I nod and try not to drool

"And no."
"It pulled us here."
"We are sure of that now."
"It must have pulled them here too."

"Go to the back area."
"Five doors down on the right."
"Don't eat them."

"Yeah, probably. C'mon, let's go see what you got."

"Well then our course of action seems very clear at this point. There are too many vampires for us to effectively fight them directly, so we need to give them incentive to leave the city. And if whatever is in that temple is what is drawing them to this place, then we need to destroy it.

"I'll need access to your library. I want to find out more about what attacked the city in the past. From there we can prepare to enter the ruins and destroy the abomination."

"You heard 'em Dreamy. Back area, five doors down to the right, only a nibble. Let's go!"

"Of course."
"We will join you after the party."
"We may even pull an all-dayer."
"Follow your friend to the library."

"Follow us."
They lead you back into the party room. You can see apple bobbing, face painting, dancing, pumpkin launching, spider tossing, food, drinks, contests, and all sort of other fun activities.

I go over to the spider tossing.

Right. To the library!

A buffalo launches a spider off his head and hits the edge of the net as you draw near. There are a few spiders on other places on the net and a large bowl full of spider dolls.

The two of you reach the library without incident with the partiers. Inside of the library everything is quiet. There is a pegasus dressed like a witch dusting shelves.

Look around for tomes on the history of the city, particularly dealing with around the time the spirit attacked the city. Also look for religious works and stuff that might mention it.

Roll #1 3 = 3

Scholar's gotta help some here, yes?

Hop up to the pegasus from behind and yell "Boo!" '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

I pick up one of the spiders and look at it. Does it remind me of my old minion?

Roll #1 10 = 10

You find a collection of history books. Roll to find good ones in the collection.
Scholar will help when you start studying them.

She screams and drops her duster. She turns around looking cross.
"That wasn't very nice, sir."

It looks exactly like your old minion, but is smaller and not made out of spider.

Roll #1 9 = 9

Can I go to the library too to figure out this evil?

I pocket it and take out another one to throw at the web."

"This one's for you, buddy."

Roll #1 4 = 4

"Hehe… sorry ma'am. You know, Nightmare Night and all."
I pick up her duster and hand it back to her with a sheepish grin

You pick out several suitably old books and even find a diary.

You hit the very edge of the web and the spider falls off.
"Aww, try again."

She takes it and grins.
"It was a good scare though. Why are you in here instead of at the party?"

oooh a diary!
'1d10' to leaf through it. When's it from? Who wrote it?

Roll #1 4 = 4

I scrunch up and give it another go.

Roll #1 3 = 3

It was from someone involved with building the wall around the Forsaken district during the end of nightmare plaguing the city.

You miss completely this time.
"One more shot, you can do it!"

Hm. Set it aside for now. What are the other books about?

Roll #1 7 = 7

I can do it!

Roll #1 7 = 7

"We got bored and decided to look up some stuff about this city's history. Speaking of, can you point me to a book or two? Maybe one that doesn't use big words?"

History books, accounts of people that went into the temple to fight the shadow, accounts of survivors from wall building crews, drawings, etc.

You hit it near the middle.
"Second place! Here, take this!"
A gryphon hands you a stuffed bat.

"There's a section of books that are used to teach people to read in the back."

I take it and put it next to the spider.

You are in the library studying books about the time period during and directly after the Shadow eclipsed the city.

>Pomelo and Olga

You are both with Dreamkicker.

A trip through the haunted house has somehow led to you being stuck in a giant spiderweb made out of rolled up flypaper.

You are in the thick of the party and have won a stuffed bat after winning second place in the spider toss.

>Everyone else

You are somewhere in the Nightmare Night festival being held in the labyrinth under the Nature temple where the Twins live.

I need to find those twins, look around the party.. '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

I'll be wandering into the main thoroughfare.
"Blasted… who even puts sticky paper all over a floor?"
Idly kick my back leg to try and dislodge it from that hoof.

Frown and go look for books about this place on my own '1d10'

Roll #1 10 = 10

I need to find Pommy and DK!

Roll #1 4 = 4

You spot the Twins entering the party area from the haunted house.

You end up getting the other end stuck to a pony dressed up like a zombie. He doesn't notice.

You find the blueprints used to design the labyrinth. You also spot some really old, boring looking books that you bet Dreamkicker would love.

You remember them talking to the Twins about their library.

Alright, just… let him walk off with it while staying still. He should pull it along with him…

I'll head there then!

He pulls it with him as he heads over to the drink table.

You find them both in the library and spot a pony dressed like a witch dusting the tables.

"I hope you're not planning to eat any of this! "

Look over the blueprints, do they highlight anything important?

Perfect. Now… where in the world is everyone else? Can I see anyone I know? '1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

I take the bat and stuff it in next to the spider. What else is going on?

"Hiya Pommy! Hiya DK! And hiya Olga!"
I wave to all of them.

Follow them. "Hey, twins, I feel like I haven't seen you all night, busy?"

Aw yiss. Pick up the book and bring them to DK.

"I'm noooot! I'm completely trustable here!"

Nod and stick a charm paper on her head.

With them you, or anyone else that has it, could easily make your way through the labyrinth to the Twin's sanctum without any trouble.

You can spot Andelia speaking with the Twins, Happyhorn looking around, and Bessy heading back to where all the bedrooms and stuff are.

All sorts of festival games and eating contests, plus dancing, drinking, and the haunted house.

They smile and hug you when they see you.
"Not busy."
"We have time."

You do so. He looks like he fell asleep while reading another book.

I was just resting my eyes, I promise.

I'll go join Happyhorn.
"Hello there, little one. It seems you've made a small haul already."

Aww. He looks so innocent when he's not insulting ponies.
Look over a book. What's it about?

I relax as they hug me and squeeze them tight whispering."We should talk" and then I let go and say "I got you presents, but it seems like you don't need them anymore." show them the pair of fox masks.

Stick spiced paper on his nose for falling asleep.

I start to look over the books Pommy brought me.

Roll #1 10 = 10

How's about something to drink.

"Yeah, I kinda did. Those spiders remind me of my old bud."

"The big one, right?"

Pomelo is trying to show you a dusty old book with a picture of the moon and sun on it. Opening it reveals that it is written in a secret code, which your superior mind quickly cracks. It looks like it is a journal kept by a priest who was trapped inside the Temple of the Sister after the shadow came from it.

You join her by the pumpkin catapulting area.

It's old, dusty, and has a picture of the sun and moon on the front It's probably bedtime stories for people that go to bed really, really late.

They put them both on, despite already wearing costumes.
"We love them!"
"They are nice!"
They hug you again and whisper to you.
"Is it about the vampires?"
"Your friends already told us some things."

The two of you wander over to the drink table. There is a drinking contest happening at one end. There is a wide variety of drinks to chose from.

"So what'cha guys doin'?"

Since I'm hete, I may as well find out more about the fell spirits of their lore. Specifically, those we might face.

Roll #1 8 = 8

Hmm. Something non-alcoholic. Some sort of juice, perhaps.

Well that sounds important. Read it!

"Uh huh. That really takes me back…"

I look for something…fun

I smile at them "They look great!"
"sort of. Its about the priestesses. " I whisper back.

"We're lookin' at books. II think we found some pretty good ones!"

You snag a book from Dreamkicker's pile and start to read it. It seems like the Shadow that attacked the city was able to split parts of itself off that could possess and mutate living beings, but at the cost of becoming mortal. If there is a way to kill the shadows before they fuse with living flesh this book does not say.

There are all sorts of juice available. All you have to do is chose one or more.

He writes about how he stayed safe for what he estimates were a few days inside a shrine dedicated to Celestia. When he finally gained the courage to venture out of the shrine he was nearly killed by mutated priests, priestesses, and moving shadows but was able to make it to another shrine dedicated to Celestia.

There is a drinking contest, a pumpkin pie eating contest, a belching contest, a haunted house, and several nice looking goats.

"They are nice, aren't they?"
"You don't have to be ashamed of your feelings."

I'll take a glass of… well, it's Nightmare Night, so Pumpkin Juice, I guess.

How did he escape from that second Celestia shrine? And does it say anything about the shadow itself? Or about the monsters inside?

Roll #1 10 = 10

"Find anything Dreamy?"
Start eying through one of the books he's not reading '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Ooh, ooh! Belching contest!

"What'cha lookin' for specifically in the books?"

Better show the rest this information. Get their attention by rapping on the table with my hoof till they're all looking, thrn show them this "Piece of information about things we'll actually possibly run into if we keep on, what are you all wasting your time on?"

This is me

I blink with a smile. "Oh, of course not. Maybe we can step into your room for a moment?"

"Stuff about this town! Why it's so full of blood suckers and whatever."

Plant my face to her reading material and read it.
"Interesting… I know some of these words… That looks bad."
Rub my chin with my hoof

You pour a big mug of orange colored juice. A donkey on the other side of the table nods at you.
"Nice costume."

He escaped by waiting for the monsters to leave and making a run for it while wearing robes worn by the Celestian high priests, which seemed to keep the moving shadows at bay. Every shrine dedicated to Celestia he was able to find was safe to be in; the monsters were all unable to come inside but they would wait outside for him for long periods of time before moving on. A few of the possessed ponies were even able to walk through the moving shadows as if they were portals. He writes that he came close to starving several times thanks to them. He was able to kill a few of the possessed priests, and 'kill' some of the moving shadows with magic, but he was not much of a fighter so he tried to avoid doing that if he could. The further you read into the book the worse his writing and encoding becomes worse the further in you move. Eventually he starts to swear that the breeze whispers and is insane.

You find a book with neat, old-timey drawings of walls and scarey pony mounters.

A buffalo cow is the current champion. An earth pony stallion and an ostrich about to take her on, but you can still join.

They look at each other.
"We can do that."
They take you to one of the bedrooms and shut the door.
"What is it?"
"Is this a mom thing?"

I'll look at him a bit curiously.
"Ah, yes. Of course. Yours isn't half bad either."

Hm. How did they find the journal? Does the book say?

Also I share the information with those around me. "It seems this was the journal of a priest of the ruined temple. He was trapped inside and managed to escape by hiding in Celestial shrines. The monsters and possessed priests attacked him, however, and some moved among possessed shadows…"

Roll #1 8 = 8

I join her too!
"What's this book about?"

All right! Big swig now!

Roll #1 4 = 4

"The shadow beast that struck the city in ancient days! I hope you realise I might have to raise a lot of bodies just to bait it into splitting if it comes again! "

"Yes, I guess you would call this a mom thing." I smile a bit
"Did the others tell you what we found out? About the bites and how they effect ponies?"

He has a skeleton costume on.
"You look as bored as I am."

It doesn't say how the journal was found. The last page is a short, poorly written entry that says Luna has place a moonbeam outside the shrine he is hiding in, and that he plans to ride it to freedom.

Buffalo [1d10]
Pony [1d10]
Ostrich [1d10]

I can't remember.
"What did they find out?"

Roll #1 10 = 10 / Roll #2 7 = 7 / Roll #3 9 = 9

"Well, it's mostly that I've no idea what to do, really. So for now, I thought I'd just keep my friend company until something catches my interest."

"So… this shadowy stuff is what's causing all this mess, right? It seems like he lost his mind, which sounds like what happened to the ones who went into the place the inquisitors were guarding …Oh, I got it! It's scared of the sun temples and the light it represents!

So all we gotta do… is find this shadow and throw the sun princess at it!"

"Alright.." I nod slowly and sit down and take a deep breath. "The ones you bite, they become more like you, and they want to be near you a lot more, its like being a thrall in a way.. That's why the priestesses were all acting so strangely. I'm sure its not your fault, feeding directly on them is what causes it, and its easy to fix, you just have to get blood indirectly from them."

"…That's brilliant Pommy!

"…But how are we gonna get the sun princess?"

Scrunch up and try again!

Roll #1 3 = 3

"Or we could light a huge fire of some kind! I know a shop sold torches that could shine light strong enough to hurt vampires, why not shadow? "

"Same thing we always do to feel like we're helping, Bessy. We pray!"

"…Or that. But only if you're sure setting a lot of things on fire at once will help."

"We could set off a bunch'a fireworks."

I smirk and think to myself.
"That might require more logistical prowess than we possess. But it does seem clear that the power of Celestia has some hold over the creatures…"

"As satisfying as burning the city down may be, I'm sure this requires holy fire, not any old torch."

They look sad.
"We didn't know."
"We thought they liked us for us."
"Become more like us how?"
"Is there any other way to fix them?"
"Blood goes bad fast."
"Bad blood doesn't keep us going as long."

You retch a little.

Buffalo [1d10]
Pony [1d10]
Ostrich [1d10]

Roll #1 3 = 3 / Roll #2 6 = 6 / Roll #3 7 = 7

You don't do as well this time, but at least the buffalo is recovering after letting loose an ear ringing burp last time.

"Well I got nothin' then. What about you?"

"There is a temple dedicated to the sun here, yes? I think we can enlist their aid."

"I'll still get some fireworks just in case…"

"With a party?"

"I doubt it. But while we're at it we may as well ask the Pink Temple for help, too."

"In mind, they start to think like you do, try to make you happy." Scrunch a bit "Another way.. well, its the second time you feed on them in a short period that makes them act different. Maybe if you were really careful."

hoo boy
Maybe I shouldn't try so hard?

Roll #1 10 = 10

I'll tap my hooves lightly on the floor in applause for Happyhorn's grand belch.

"Good idea Bessy."
Give her a hug

"I'm sure they'd be willing to lend a few pies for the cause."

Buffalo [1d10]
Pony [1d10]
Ostrich [1d10]

Roll #1 10 = 10 / Roll #2 10 = 10 / Roll #3 7 = 7

You, the buffalo, and the pony belch loud enough to rattle dirt lose from the ceiling and bring the party to a stop for a few seconds. The ostrich bows out of the contest.

"That explains things."
"So many things."
"We will slow down."
"Will we?"
"We won't?"
"What if they stop being our friends?"

They both look you.
"Will they?"
"Will they?"

The donkey whistles.
"What a woman."

"She's had a few surprises in her, I'll give you that."

I blink and bring them in close for a hug. "I don't know twins. But I trust you will do the right thing."

Look around the room
"Did you guys hear something?"

"I think I heard something and felt something…"
I look around to see if anything is still shaking.

"Please, pay attention. We should move quickly and investigate this thing as soon as possible."

Nod my head.
"Okay okay! But are you done readin' here?"

"So, are you two…together?"

They sigh and hug you back.
"We will."
"Does this mean you won't feed us again?"
"Or be our friend?"
"We don't want to lose all our friends."
"Can we come with you if they hate us?"

"I thought we were gonna head to the Celesita temple?"

"I think so."
I gather up the most important books and take them with me.

"Yes. And so we must go there soon. Let's speak to the twins and get out of here as soon as possible."

"We're traveling companions. Friends. Beyond that… well, I suppose you could say I'm a mode of transport. I don't mind, though. She's not heavy, and it's nice to have someone to talk with."

Okay! wearin' em down!

Roll #1 4 = 4

"Twins.. I could never hate you.
And of course I'll be your friend, and even feed you again, we just have to be careful with feeding."
look deeply concerned.
"You know you're family to me twins.. I want to watch out for you, and not because of any bite."

Gather some not as important books and follow

I follow along too!
"You coming with us Olga?"

They keep hugging you.
"Thanks, mom."
"Thanks, mom."
The Twins let you go.
"What now?"
"Want to go back to the party?"

"Oh. Say, have you even been to a party before? You look uncomfortable."

You both gather your books and leave.

And you were there too.

"Not one on this scale."
I'll shuffle my hooves a bit.
"I wasn't aware I looked so out of place."

Head up to the twins.

Smile warmly. "Sure, wouldn't want you to miss your own party."
Glance at the mask that looks like myself and ponder it for a moment before moving on, I don't need a costume right now, just to be there for my twins.

"You do. What do you do for fun?"

At first you can't spot the twins, but then you notice them walking back into the party room from the bedroom/library hallway with the Twins.

The three of you walk back into the party room.

"You lookin' for the twins DK? Why?"

"Well it is rude to leave a soiree without saying your farewells, isn't it?"

"I dunno. I read, usually. I should probably try a few of the games the Twins have set up."

Follow them into the party room!
"We found books!"

Stick near the twins and enjoy the party '1d10' try not to dance like an embarrassing mother or something.

Roll #1 8 = 8

Sit by the side of the party and pour over more of that book

Roll #1 9 = 9

"Wait… we're leaving for good? We're not even gonna come back?"

"Yes, we found books that have information on the shadow creature inside the temple. The creatures seem to have difficulty with holy shrines and the like, so I feel we have some way to fight it. It's my intention to go inside and investigate it. As such, and since this whole affair was your idea, any help you can provide would be appreciated."

"Oh, I'm sure we'll be back sooner or later."

"Oh. So we can just tell them we're popping out for a bit and we'll be back before the end of the party!"

They drag you over to Dreamkicker, Bessy, and Pomelo, saving you from remembering whether or not you know how to dance.

"If you want to get bit that badly."
"We can provide a safe and nurturing environment."
The Twins grin at you.

"What kind of books?"
"If you bite them we get to bite you."

"Slow down."
"What are you talking about?"

"You want to stay for the party?

"Well, I suppose it's pointless to leave again in the middle of the night. Might as well stay until the dawn."

I grin and chomp the air at them
"Books about this city! Stuff about what happened here."

I roll my eyes and ignore the biting comment.

"We know that the creature inside the ruined temple is what is drawing vampires to this city. It stands to reason that it has somehow grown stronger recently, and that is why it has suddenly started attracting more. I would like to find out why.

"This journal is from a priest who was trapped inside the ruin when the shadow descended upon the city. He says that he was able to survive while hiding in Celestial shrines. Thus, I think we should ask for the sun temple's help in exploring the ruins. If the creature is harmed by their power, then perhaps they can provide a way to contain it once more."

"Yeah, you should!

Roll #1 6 = 6

"Any suggestions, little one? Or should I hunt down one or two on my own?"

"What happened when?"
"You mean when Luna went crazy?"

"Are you sure?"
"We are pulled to the Forsaken District."
"Not the ruined temple."
"But there is something off about it."
"We are sure."
"But your lead does sound interesting."
"And that is where you said the vampires were hiding."
"Your sun idea sounds good."
"We would help, but our friends need us."
"And the Sunnies wouldn't like us."

Roll #1 6, 8 = 14 / Roll #2 1, 1 = 2

"You look like you could hold your own in the drinking contest!"

Roll #1 3 = 3

The earth pony tries to belch, but turns green and runs away, everyone clearing a path for him.

It's just you and the buffalo now.

"You should! What sorts of games do you like? You've played games before, right?"

"It's possible that the shadow resides in the abandoned section of the city, but I would bet that there is a network of tunnels connecting back to that quarter from the temple. The vampires we encountered seemed to be attempting to flee underground, after all.

"And, yes, I suspected as much. And, in any case, any help you could provide would likely be harmed by that the 'Sunnies' could provide.

"Thank you for the literature. I will be keeping them for the moment, if you do not mind."

I'll chuckle a bit.
"Looks can be deceiving."
"Of course I've played games."
I'll look over what's close. I think the Pumpkinpults were near here?
"I might try the catapult game, maybe."

"They say a few sections of the city were built over."
"It is worth checking out."
"But be careful."
"If you die will never get to tease you again."
"We don't mind."
"But if you lose them you replace them."
"Or give us a meal."
"These books are valuable, you know."

"Sounds like a plan. Want me to show you how they work?"

"Can't be too hard, but sure."

I nod my head
"And we'll be sure to bring 'em back when we're done."

"Whyzat? Are you a lightweight?"

Roll #1 8 = 8

"We'll bring them back! Do you know what parts of the city were built over?"

"Let's just say I have a reason to not get drunk."

He leads you over to the miniature catapults.
"It's simple. Try to hit the target on the far wall. You get five shots."

"Stay safe."
"Kill some monsters for us."
"Bring us any books you find. Proper vampires like us need big libraries."

Roll #1 8 = 8

You and the buffalo match each other in volume and length.

"Alright… let's set off the first one."

Roll #1 7 = 7

"Gotcha! We'll be on our way!… Just as soon as the sun comes up…!"

gooooooooo lungs

Roll #1 7 = 7

The pony attending the catapult hands you another.
"Good shot. Keep going."

"You have a while yet."
"Enjoy yourself."

Roll #1 7 = 7

You two are perfect burping rivals.

Right… got the range of it on the first shot, let's see if I can't nail it this time.

Roll #1 7 = 7

It was my destiny to face him!

Roll #1 1 = 1

You hit the target once again.
"Not perfect, but keep it up and you'll win a nice prize."

Roll #1 7 = 7

"I've three shots still to go."
Fire away. '1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

You start coughing and the buffalo cow lets out one last belch. The audience cheers and she pats you not on the back.
"Not bad, kid."

You very nearly hit the bullseye.
"That's how it's done!"

I'll nod.
"I am getting a bit closer."
Two shots to go. '1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

Your shot goes wild and you hit a pegasus.
"Oohh, not good. Keep trying."

"I hope that pegasus is alright…"
Last shot. C'mon, bullseye. Which is a bit odd to say for a buffalo bull, since the only real bullseye here is probably mine… '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

"Yeah, well I guess I just couldn't keep up with your big ol' lungs."

"She'll be fine. Him, you a little over half the number of possible number of points."
The pony reaches into a box and pulls out a plush skull.
"Here you go."

Se laughs again.
"You did pretty well, but I guess that's what I should have expected froma friend of the Twins."

I stay close to Pomelo and Bessy and try to avoid contact with any of the weirdos.

Into the buffabunker with it.
Sounds like the belching contest is wrapped up, though.
"So, how'd you end up doing?"

I hop off to enjoy the party, dancing until I lose track of time

Roll to not be accosted by drunken partygoers.

You can suddenly smell the stink of vampires.
"Hello, Brutus."
"Feeling calm?"
"You look calm."
"Good shooting."

You're a manic, manic on the floor: dancing like you've never danced before.

Roll #1 7 = 7

Ah. The Twins.
"Good evening. And thank you."
Are they on my back, or around my feet? Or both, for that matter.
"This must have taken a bit of work to set up so quickly."

"They talk about me?"

"Second place! Again!"

"Ah, that's a shame. Still, you nearly brought down the temple, so at least you had a good opponent."

You avoid most of the drunken rabble and even have a tolerable conversation with a pony while grabbing a snack at the food table.

They are standing a respectful, for them, foot away from your head where you can easily see both of them.

"Never mentioned you."

That's… odd, actually. Must be because they can smell what's happened to me.
"I suppose Andelia and the others have told you about the old temple?"

They nod.
"How about you?"
"Are you in control?"
What are they plotting in their twisted little minds?

"Oh. Uh…okay?

"Yeah. I wonder if they heard us up there?"

"Might have."
I'll raise an eyebrow at them.
"I would not be here if I weren't."

"That's good."
"Just checking up on you."
"Enjoying the party?"

"I am, actually. Though I didn't quite get the point of the room covered in sticky paper."

"Spider nest."
"We thought it was a good idea."
"But the webs were on the ceiling."
"How did you manage to get up there?"

I'll look at them confused for a moment.
"When I was in there, the whole room was covered."

A vampire party is the best kind of party cause a vampire party don't stop!

The party is all in the Twins' main chamber, which has been filled with table for food and drink as well as various party games. The party has been going on for hours now, and is starting to die down. There are places to sleep available for those that have a long day ahead of them.

I try to keep my eyes open.

Roll #1 4 = 4

"Whew, that was pretty fun.."
Yawn and stretch a little
"Buuut now I'm sleepy."
Head off to one of them sleepin places

I should probably get some sleep, but before I do I think I'll read a bit more of that language primer. '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

"Yeah, me too…"
I yawn and pull >>506040 with me to one of those sleeping rooms.

You nod off, allowing a commoner to brush up against you while getting a cup of punch. Thankfully Bessy pulls you away before it can try to talk to you.

The three of you all pile into a room with a bed. You'll all have to cuddle up a bit to fit on it, or sleep on top of Bessy while she sleeps on the bed.

You yawn, but finally finish the book. You've got a working grasp of the local language now.

Aw yiss. Cuddle up and sleep

Go to sleep with my frens

Here have a roll '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

Awesome. I shall find a room or some unoccupied corner to snooze in. If Happyhorn wants, she can use me as a bed.

Who says sleeping with friends is a bad idea?

You all wake up refreshed. There is a note on the door.

You find an empty bed to sleep in and wake up full of energy the nest morning. There is a note on the door.

Set some incense alight at a corner somewhere.

Try to meditate on my needed actions in the future. Shadow beasts, sunlight…?

Rolling if needed

Roll #1 6 = 6

I groggily wake up and roll off the bed/buffalo.
I'm good at reading. I read the note.

I read the note. What's it say?

Rush up to it and read it. '1d10'
What's it say?

Roll #1 4 = 4

Read the note.

You've got the feeling that you should help the younger generation you travel with prepare and get supplies."

Every other word looks like it was written by a different person. It thanks you all for coming to the party, hopes you all had fun, and wishes you all good luck fighting the vampires. it is signed by the Twins.

You feel a strong urge to make sure the vampires didn't feed on your or your friends last night.

I should probably check the priests as well, but that would be a lost cause amongst the old and new bite marks. Best I can do is check the others.
So I shall meet them, after checking myself first.

You can't find any on yourself.

Good. Time to meet up with the others.

You go out into the hallway, but have no idea what room they are in.

"Well that's thoughtful of them… even if they did sneak in here to leave it."
Open the door and peer out

"Aww, that's nice of them!"

"Yes, they would be such a fit in Canterlot high society, wouldn't they?"

"Let's find the others. We need to prepare to go into the ruins."

Check my wealth, again. Also, can I trade in my current torch to help buy that blessed sunlight torch?

"…Does that mean we're taking 'em with us?"
I hop outside the room and try to see if anyone I know is coming

I make sure our things are packed on Bessy and ready to go.

Well, they just walked out of their room, so there's that.
"Hey, have you two checked each other over for bite marks?"

"Huh? Bite marks? Why would we do that? I didn't let them bite me and I don't think Pommy or DK did either!"

"Just being cautious. There was a lot of alcohol flowing at that party."

"I have a very sensitive coat, and I think I would notice if I were bitten. And I'm sure Pomelo wasn't."

I look myself all over '1d10'
"I didn't feel anything!"

Roll #1 6 = 6

You can.
Cash Levels
Olga: 3
Dreamkicker: 2
Brutus: 2
Bessy: 2
Pomelo: 3

You load Bessy up like the lovable beast of burden she is. It's like having an older, bigger sister, except you get to boss her around instead.

You are perfectly fine.

"Where's the croan? We need to get moving to the sun temple."

Yell to the whole party.

>anything being older than dreamkicker

"Nope! Not a bite on me!"

>beast of burden

Do I have any bite marks on me?

"Shouldn't we go get supplies first?"

Roll #1 5 = 5

Just a mosquito bite you got a few days ago.

"I'll go with you. No sense wandering alone at this point."

"You don't need to shout, we're all here and not deaf, yet."

"Sensible enough."

I surreptitiously check myself for bitemarks, too.

Roll #1 1 = 1

"Thank you, young man."

Nope, you're fi-you find a sore spot. When you pull your hoof away there are two red spots.

I try not to panic and check closer

Roll #1 7 = 7

You keep calm and check again. You can't feel holes, but your neck is sore in two closetogether spots.

When everyone's ready I'm going to go to that blessed goods shop and trade in my torch and needed cash for that sunlight torch.

Professor Corona always warned me about using these spells for trivial stuff, but this seems important. Let's see what really happened last night…

Roll #1 4 + 3 = 7

"Not to put too fine a point on it, but you might wake the Twins."
I'll snort.
"Where's Andelia, anyway?"

"She really likes the twins so she's probably hanging out with them."

You watch the Twins, apparently drunk, sneak into your room and tack the note to the door. They look at the three of you asleep and you see one whisper to the other. They laugh and leave the room. A few minutes later they return with a screwdriver and a thin paintbrush with red paint. One pokes you twice in the neck with the screwdriver and the other leaves two red dabs of color where you were poked. Giggling, they leave the room with their things.

She's with you all, but too tired to say anything. Same as Hornbeard, really.

I'll go accompany Olga on her shopping trip, then.

These damned kids keep talking about nonsense.

"Oh, never mind."
Wave hi to Andy

Follow along

"I'll rub garlic in their eyes while they're sleeping and see how they like it, the plebeians"

Grab Pommy and Bessy and follow Olga.

Well let's go shopping then!
Should we stop by the joke shop?

"No, you dense girl! We're going to get supplies to ward off shadow demons!"

Everyone ready to go to the Merchant District?

"I'm not dense…"

Mmhm mmhm

"Please stop making a scene, old goat."

The lot of you leave the temple, a few priests and priestesses waving goodbye, and make your way to the shopping area of town. Here there are armorers, weapon smiths, mages, enchanters, alchemists, and more.

How much money do I have after we got whatever we did from the dead vampire hunters?

Hmm. My armor's enchanted, my shield's enchanted… What else could I get? It's not like I can stick a bunch of stakes on my shield to plow through vamps with…

You never got anything from the vampire hunters. They died and none of you bothered to look for where they kept their money.

Maybe you could ask Olga? She sounds like she has been here before.

Probably. It can't be too expensive to get my shield blessed…

Hmm… What exactly can an alchemist give me?

Any sort of magic shop around?

"I am going to look for blessed goods. We will need the sun's power to fend off shadow demons. I am certain we will run into them if we stay here."

Walk there myself if no one is following me

"Oooh… I get what you mean! I'll come with you!"

I'll follow along.
"How much do you suppose a blessing costs?"

Hop alongside her
"Right! I still think we need to find a princess to throw but this'll work for now."

Probably, but there was talk of visiting the Sun temple to get help. Their blessing might be the most useful.

All sorts of potions. Maybe Bessy knows more about potions?

Alchemists, Enchanters, Mages' shops, and more.

All of you follow Olga to a shop and go inside. It's full of all sorts of gear that reminds you of the vampire hunters. The person behind the counter looks up.
"Oh, miss! Hello again. I've still got some sun torches if you want."

Let's go to a Mage's shop and talk to a shopkeep.

"Can you make my cannon shoot sunlight?"
I hop over to the counter.

"Yes, yes. Circumstances have changed. I need a sun torch and no longer need the one you sold me before. If I traded this in, how much more would I need to pay for one of those sun torches?"

I'll stall any questions until the others have finished. Don't want to overwhelm the clerk.

You find a hot pink unicorn mare behind the counter.
"Hello, sir. Looking for scrolls or wands? We have all sorts of spell to chose from."

"Er, no mam. The priests at the Sun temple can do that for you for, at least if you donate to their church."

"I can take a quarter off the price of a sun torch for that torch."

"I'm looking for something to improve my spellcasting. Something to better focus my magical energies."

"Oh. Alright then!"
I hop over to the Sun Temple.

"Mmm, that would be the enchanter's shop you are looking for. There is one right across the street."

That's quite the journey. Is there nothing you want to buy first?

Follow Dreamkicker to the enchanter's shop

I go there, then.

I go to the weaponsmith?

The two of you go to the enchanter's shop. A beige unicorn stallion greets you both.
"Hello! What can I enchant for the two of you?"

You walk into a store with racks full of all types of weapons. A gryphon greets you.
"Hi. Welcome to Swoop's Shivs. What can I get for you?"

"Can you do anything to upgrade this?"
I gesture up to my cannon.

"Well, fine."

Take his offer.

"I need something to better focus my magic. Perhaps you have something? Or, if not, maybe you could enchant one of my spellbooks or…"

I search through my saddlebags for that ring we found in the mansion.

"…this ring?"

"Same! I need that too. Maybe you could enchant uh…"
I point to my sombrero-like inquisitor's hat

"Upgrade a party cannon? Hmm. I can make it shoot cutlery, is that good?"

"Done deal. This torch will last for {20 turns}. It can be turned on and off by pressing the activation rune."
You now have 1.5 cash levels.

"I can do the those, yes. Do you want a general enhancement or a specific one?"
General is +1 to all spells for 2 cash levels. Specific effects only one type of spell and is +2 for the same price.

"Cutlery? What good's that do me?"

Let's folow the rest of the party to the other shops. Can't think of anything.

"A spoon or fork, traveling at a certain speed, isn't much different than an arrow."

You see signs for preblessed water, wooden stakes, biteproof collars, and item enchantments.

"I need it to help me channel lightning better."
So +2 to Storm bolt?

Plunk down the tail ring and my money.

Do I still have the silverware from that cave?

"General! I always wanted to be kinda decent at everything!"
Give him two cash levels

"Pardon me, but I was wondering if I could get my shield blessed against vampires."

He zaps the ring with a bolt of magic.
"Alright. One tail ring of the storm, all finished."

No, but you don't have the party supplies the cannon fires either.

He takes the hat off your head and zaps it.
"Done. One hat of magic."

"Blessed against vampires? The people at the sun temple would be your best choice for that."

I was at the sun temple, with Olga. Unless the sun torches she's getting are from the enchanter.

Put it on and, once Pommy is done, go find the rest of the party.

Oh. Alright then. So will this allow me to do damage towards the vampires with the cannon?

Put it on and feel the above average-ness flow through me. Then go find Bessy

If you are focusing only on the vampires have it shoot wooden splinters instead.

She got it from a Hunter's shop.

You feel an electric tingle run through your ass to the rest of your body as you put the ring on, then feel the power reinforce part of your magical arsenal. You find Bessy in a weapon shop and Olga wandering the streets.

You feel better than the average goat as you find Bessy in an armor shop.

I can't afford an enchantment anymore.
Look for the blessed water.

That might be a better idea.
"How much would it cost to get it to shoot… splinters! Nobody hates anything more than splinters, right?"

Ah. Then I guess I'm going to head to the Sun Temple.
"Will you be alright here, or should I wait until you've finished before heading to the sun temple?"

"I;ll be fine! Just going to get one more thing and I'll be heading off too."

Hop on her back
"What about frogs? Those are worse."

You find blessed water selling in vials selling for {1 cash level}. Each vial can be used five times to give a melee weapon a +1 against vampires, so long as they are attacked the next turn. The entire vial can be thrown at a vampire to do catastrophic damage, but will use the entire thing up hit or miss.

"Hmm, only splinters? {1 cash level}, but it won't kill vampires right away, if that's what you are thinking. It'll hurt like heck though."

You want to wait for Olga?

I'll wait, since she's only getting one more thing.

"Frogs are cute! Nobody hates frogs Pommy."

"Oh. What will kill vampires right away then?"

"And that's why you're no longer allowed in the academy's frog laboratory."

"Stakes, but hitting a moving vampire with a bigass stake fired from a cannon is nearly impossible. Easier to incapacitate it and do it by claw."

I give them both a sour face

"Splinters it is then!"
I hand over [1 cash level].

Alright, just take the blessed water.

You buy one vial.
0.5 cash levels.

He throws a pinecone covered with peanut butter and birdseed into the barrel of the cannon. You hear a pink sounds pony shout something like "Omnygosh!" and chance after it.
"There you go."
1 cash level

1 cash level.

I turn back to DK and Pommy.
"So where to now?"

"Well I got a little bit of money left. If we don't need nothin else maybe we can stop by that temple and see what they can do for us?"

"Sounds good to me!"
On we go?

Ready when everyone else is!

All clear.

To the Sun Temple, then.

All of you depart the Merchant District and make way to the Temple Disctrict. In the center you fin the Sun temple and the Moon temple, and between them the fenced off and ruined Temple of the Sisters.

Time to go get a blessing. If I can even make it through the front door of the Sun temple.

Right, to the Sun temple.

Into the Sun Temple!

File: 1385180997230.jpg (612.09 KB, 2550x3300, Cathedral floor.jpg, IO exif Google TinEye)

The inside of the sun temple is almost painfully bright at this time of day. An osterich greets you all at the door.
"Hello. Are you all here to worship or make an offering?"

"We're here to talk about helping you, and you helping us."

"I am in search of a blessing to defend against Vampires. And to harm them in turn."

"Heya, do you have your sun princess around here?"

"I wanna make my cannon shoot sunlight!"

"If you mean you want protection money you can suck suck on vampire fangs."

"That is doable, but will take a monetary donation."

The ostrich scowls.
"We do not worship Celestia. Not after what her sister did."

"I had assumed so. How much is a traditional offering for such a blessing?"

The ostrich looks at it.
"It is blessed by Pinkie. It's blessing cannot change to that of the Sun. Another one of your weapons should be doable."

"I am only an initiate. You would need to talk with a high brother about that."

"Are there any free to speak?"

"Protec- Do I look like some sort of gangster? I'm a stallion of the arcane arts!"

"Yes. Go to the second floor and look for the door with four suns."

"My apologies."

"Thank you."
Up we go.

"Apology accepted. I need to speak to the high priestess."

"Let's not waste time."

Go to where he said

"Oh… does my sling work then?"

The three of you go up the stairs and quickly find the door mentioned by the bird. It is open. Inside is a pegasus writing something down on a scroll.
"Hello? How can I help you?"

"I see no reason why it wouldn't."

"Pssst. Do you need this?"
Hand her my cash

"I was hoping to obtain a blessing that would defend against and harm those of the vampiric persuasion, and was hoping to learn the donation expected for such a blessing."

"Hello. We are a group of Equestrian adventurers here to investigate the vampire presence in your city. We have reason to believe that it is related to the evil residing in the ruined temple nearby. We also have reason to believe that your temple could help us in fending off that evil. So we are here to ask for your aid."

Rolling to be polite

Roll #1 10 = 10

"Alright then! Can you bless it?"

"It shouldn't be that expensive! It's just a donation after all."

"Mmm. Well, we cannot bless just anyone. Too often people think they are invincible thanks to us and disappear. Why do you want to kill vampires?"

You are the politest. The pony leans forwards.
"You think the vampires are connected to the cursed Temple of the Sisters? What do you need our help with, I am listening."

The ostrich shakes his head.
"No. Follow your friends. The pony they are looking for can help you."

"They have killed associates of ours, and have attacked us personally on multiple occasions."
I'll clear my throat.
"And we're planning an expedition into the Ruined Temple of the Sisters."

"Well, I believe that the evil inside is harmed by the power of Celestia – that is, the light of the sun. As such, any blessings you can provide would be of aid, but particularly helpful would be a source of that divine light – perhaps a magical lantern blessed properly or the like."

Off I go then.

"So we're throwing the lamp?"

"Those are good re-"
His jaw drops.
"You are what!? Why!?"

"It-it is, yes. I can give you one of those, but I need to know everything you do. I will not ave a precious artifact wantonly lost to the Shadow."

You go up the stairs and follow the sound of your friends' voices. They are in a room talking with a pegasus.

"Hi there! Can you bless my sling so it can throw balls of sunlight?"

"Because we have come to believe that the source of the surge of vampire attacks lies within."

"No, we won't be throwing the lamp at it."

"To put it bluntly, we don't know what is inside the temple beyond the barest essentials. But I think once we encounter the shadow, if we simply shine the light on it we can harm or weaken it."

"Simply put, vampires we have encountered have demonstrated a strong draw to the temple. That is why we believe they are connected."

"One moment, mam, I am in a meeting."

"What makes you sure? We are certain that nothing can survive in it."

He shakes his head.
"Weakening it will be the most you can do with such magic. There may be a way to snuff it out completely, or strengthen the bonds that hold it, but those ways would only be found in the forsaken district, if they exist at all."

He taps his hoof on his chin.
"Donate what you can. I will help you all with the blessings and a sacred lamp."

"We've been inside the forsaken district before, but haven't gone far into it. Do you know of someplace there where we might learn more about the shadow?"

"The last group of vampires that attacked us, and murdered a group of vampire hunters, fled into those ruins. They would not have run there unless they were certain they would survive it."
I'll nod at the last bit.
"And the donations go…?"

>We've been inside the forsaken district before
No, you haven't.
"You can earn more about the shadow from the Inquisition, if they let you into their library."

He nods his head.
"They go where they are needed. Mostly maintained roofs and windows so vampires can't invite themselves into houses."

"I meant where do we put them?"

>No, you haven't.
Wasn't that where the mansion was?

"Yes, I thought as much. We'll head to the Inquisition when we're done here."

"Oh. Just give them to me."

Nope, the Residential District.
"Good luck with them."

I'll donate [one cash level].

I put [one cash level] in as well.

You slingshot starts to glow.

"What did you say you wanted blessed, sir?"

"My shield. I use it both to defend and attack, so a blessing on it would have twofold purpose."

"Neat! Thanks!"
I try to throw something with it. or…

Roll #1 1 = 1

Does his leg where the shield touches have armor?

You throw it out of the door and down to the first floor, where it a hits a praying pony. It never once looked like sunlight.

I wince and go chase after it.

More than likely.

The hoof you are using to hold it hurts a bit, but other than that you are fine as the shield starts to glow.

The pony scowls at you.
"Be more careful."

We are bleeding players. Want to pause?

Such is the life of the wuffalo. But I can endure.

Chase after her and heal the pony she hit '1d10+3'
"She didn't mean it! Honest!"

Roll #1 2 + 3 = 5

I guess.
I think everyone's that was here has finished their shit though, so we should be hopefully good to go next session.

Okay. To the inquisitor place next time!

You kiss the pony's head to make it better, but you aren't his mom so you don't think it worked. He gently pushes you away.
"Sorry, billygoats aren't my thing."

Glad you guys had fun. Review in the meta please.

The party is in the Temple of the Sun after a shopping trip in the Merchant's District to buy weapons, armor, and equipment. Brutus just had his shield blessed and Bessy had her slingshot blessed. She then threw it at a pony on the ground floor of the temple for no good reason.

It is currently the morning.

And I'm pretty much ready to go. The day is probably going to be our best chance of succeeding in this dive.

Hello yes this is goat

Les gooooo!

And rudehorse was there too

"Ready to go into the Temple, Happyhorn? Any last-minute blessings you need to pick up?"

But go where? Straight to the Temple, to visit the Inquisitors, or somewhere else?

"Probably all of them?"

"I suppose we should talk to the Inquisition."

Well, I doubt the inquisitors would want to dive into their impending doom so shortly after doing so once before.
"The Sun will be our ally in the dark of that temple. Though perhaps getting a blessing of the moon might balance the scales."

"Huh? You actually wanna?"

"Not especially, but they are likely to know more."

"We should know what we're gonna ask them so they don't try to go pokin' around in what we know!"

"I better get a sun one then."

"I just need access to their library."

"A good choice, given that we have no evidence that it is harmed by the moon."

"How nasty!"

"Well, it was a temple of both sisters, wasn't it? Perhaps it needs both to balance whatever's in there."

"Kay. So we're gonna take their books after Happyhorny gets her blessings. Got it."

"Borrow. We're going to 'borrow' their books."

But you already got one while meeting with the High Brother with the others, don't you remember?

Not really! No use living in the past!

"Never miiiiind, got it!"

Collect our holy lamp, etc. from the priestess and prepare to leave.

"That's what I said!"

Sit at the door ready to go

I'm ready to go as well. I'm assuming that Happyhorn is in her nest.

Sit next to Pommy ready to go!

There are skillpoints currently unspent.

I spent my 3 on prayer of healing

The party leaves the Temple district and makes their way through the city. Eventually all of you reach the Inquisitor's mansion in a very sparsely populated and open part of the city. At the gate are two ponies with spears.

"Halt! What business do you have here?"

"We're looking to make use of the Inquisition's library. We've worked for them in the past."

"And to say hi!"

Disregard this.

"Worked with them how?"

"They aren't the chatty sort. Move along."

"We helped them clear the Manor."

"We helped them investigate a former Inquisition barracks or armory or office or some such. It was just a few days ago. I suggest you ask your superiors."

Or perhaps not.

"What DK said!"

I'll add Null Shot to my ammo.

You brew up two Heal potions and dump out the three failed ones.

"Oh, that was you guys?"
One of them pulls out a piece of paper and looks at it.
"Alright, you are all free to go in."
He swings open the gate. There is a translucent field of pink magic you must all walk through to get to the other side.

As we walk towards the library, I keep plucking hairs off of Pommy and try to mix them up.

Roll #1 6, 7, 5, 3, 8 = 29

Head through it, then. After poking it to make sure I can actually pass through what I can only assume is a shield or scan of some kind.

Walk through it, completely indifferent to my best friend pulling my hairs out

I poke it as well. I'm guessing my minion has to wait outside.

"Ow! I've told you before, Bessy – I don't care what they do among your people. Stop trying to groom me."

"Huh? But I'm not even touching you…"

Whoops. Uh…

"N-not that I want you to try or anything."

You easily walk through the barrier and brew three more Heal potions while you walk.

You have to dig your hooves in to get through, but you can feel your helmet parting the barrier for you and after a few seconds you reach the other side.

You skip through the shield.

You minion easily follows you through.

Dreamkicker leaves a thin trail of spaghetti behind him as he walks through the barrier.

After a minute all of you reach the front door of the mansion. The atmosphere is much less oppressive, and the building looks much nicer now, although that is not saying much. The guards a the repaired front doors open them and wave you all through.

"I suppose we should ask before we barge into the library."
Up to the office, then?

Looks like it doesn't quite like me. I'll have to keep that in mind.
I'll follow behind the others.

Oh well what d'you know? I tell it not to get lost.

Wave back at them

"Oh yeah… that's polite of you!"

Five's good enough for now!
I'll let Pommy rest.

"So what are we doing again?"

"We're going to find out more about what's in the temple."

It nods.

All of you head upstairs. There are many rooms up here, but the main office is to the left.

I point left.

I poke my head in one.
Any random one!

Roll #1 1 = 1

Me too! '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

The two of you go left and open the door that leads to the waiting room where you all fought the…thing…that was growing under the floor. The floor has been repaired and the buffalo Inquisitor is cooped up behind a desk. He looks up at you.
"We were expecting you to return eventually. Need more work?"

You head to the right and poke your head into the old, bloody barracks.
Your head starts pounding. Blood drips upwards from the floor to the ceiling. There is a gory, twisted pile of ponies and wooden bedframes in one corner of the room. A pony whose neck has been twisted all the way around quite a few times screams at you, despite having an empty, dark hole where his face should be.

You skip off into a room. Inside it is the inquisitor mare you met outside the Temple of the Sisters after the near massacre while meeting with the vampire hunters. She scowls at you.
"What are you doing here?

"Just getting some information, if the unicorn has his way. We're planning an excursion into the ruined temple of the Sisters, and aside from the Sun's blessing, we thought we should check and see if your archives had anything about that place. Floor plan, anything."

I hightail the fuck away from that room.

I nod a bunch.

I stare at her for a few seconds, then frantically wave my hoof
"I um… wanted to say hi! I missed you tons, you know?"
Give her a hug

"No. I'd like to make use of your library."

Brutus talks to the wall at the top of the staircase and Happyhorn nods her head in a completely different room, next to Dreamkicker. Bessy shoots like a bullet past Brutus and into the room Happyhorn and Dreamkicker are in.

You pull your head out of the room and run like hell is chasing you. Next thing you know you are with Dreamkicker, Happyhorn, and the Inquisitor buffalo.

"Why did you miss me, goat?"
She looks confused and tries to hold you back with a hoof.

"Sounds okay. Don't take any books."

Roll #1 4 = 4

"Good. Thank you."

Head to the library.

You give her a hug, but she doesn't stay hugged for long.

I am somewhere nearby Dreamkicker?

>not having me follow them all the way
I'll join the others.

"Because you're nice and a friend of course!"
Slide around her hoof and keep hugging as if I planned this '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

You head downstairs to the library. The boookshelves have all been replaced and the floor has been repaired. It looks like a nice library now, with sinister Inquisitorial touches.

Sure. He still looks as cute as he did when you first met him, after all.

The buffalo sticks his hoof in your mouth.
"Calm down! What is wrong?"

They split apart. You were replaying to something said to Pomelo while he was alone.
You walk into the waiting room just as Dreamkicker and Andelia leave. Inside Bessy is trying to scream around a hoof in her mouth, which belongs to the buffalo inquisitor. Happyhorn is there too.

She gives up and lets herself be hugged.
"What have I done to make you think I am your friend?"

I snicker at Bessy.

I look for materials on the local temple and the spirit inside.

Roll #1 8 = 8

Ah, I thought I was talking to the inquisitor who asked if we needed more work. That'll teach me, I guess.
I'll raise an eyebrow at this.
"What's gone on here?"

Shake away such thoughts, not now.. maybe if I talk to the twins about that gate.. "Can I help you find something Dreamy-butt?"

"Yes, look around for anything that concerns the spirit in the temple or perhaps just information on the abandoned section of the city."

"Haunted! HAUNTED! Th- Th- There's a HAUNTED ROOM!"
I point over to that creepy room.

With a small smile I'll help him look around for books on spirits or old city plans '1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

You find a small booklet that covers something called a Tainted Moonbeam.

"She ran in screaming."

He frowns.
"The damned door keeps opening itself, my apologies."
He walks across the hall and into the room. There is a loud wail that chills you down to the marrow in your bones and makes you wonder if you will ever party again, then it stops. The buffalo walks out and shuts the door behind him.
"That room is the one place we still don't have the ponypower to cleanse, and it knows it. We'll get it eventually though, do not worry."

You find a study on local myths that may have kernels of reality in them, and faded plans for the city that don't go into great detail.

How interesting. I read it.

Roll #1 3 = 3

I laugh
"Everyone I meet is my friend, even if I talk to 'em for only a few minutes."
Place my hoof under her chin, then use my other hoof to move the corners of her cheeks up to form a smile.
"There, much better! Now you keep that up til I get back!"

Pat her on the head and walk out the room and catch up with the others

Okay, keep looking for other old city plans. '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Where are we right now?

"I see."
Then I'll turn to Bessy.
"We should catch up with the others."
And then it's off to the library.

It talks about beams of light that can sometimes be seen passing by windows in the Temple of the Sisters. There are several accounts of them leaving wilted vegetation in their wake, and nearly every account has the moonbeams slowly traveling along the ground like some kind of worm. Most everything else in the booklet is speculation on what they are and what causes them.

She smiles until you leave the room, but rolls her eyes.

You find some more city plans, but none of them are very detailed. You notice that the plans that are this old have outlines of the Forsaken District, although it is not yet walled off.

The library in the Inquisitor's mansion.

You are now in the library.

"It was really scary…"

I frown but reluctantly agree.

"Hiya Andy! Hiya DK! What'cha two doing?"

Well what sort of speculation?

Roll #1 10 = 10

Huh, interesting. Maybe if I line them all up and.. compare I'll see something interesting? '1d10'
"Just doing some research Bessy."

Roll #1 8 = 8

"They're reading"
Can I find anything else?

Roll #1 8 = 8

"What's this about Moonbeams? Clearly the influence of the Nightmare causes them, like the shadows! "

I don't think she's ever going to like me again.
Ah well. Once in the library, I'll start looking for anything useful. '1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

"Stop reading over my shoulder, goat. Find your own book."

"Ooh! Lemme join in!"
I go find a book.

Roll #1 3 = 3

Assuming I'm with the others

"Find anything good?"

"What were you two up to?"

"Sure, see if you can find any old plans of the city. I'd like to get an idea of where we are going."

He nods.
"It is. Lots of ponies were very brutally killed in that room."
You leave and go down to the library.

Speculation that
they all share one common root, and that they may not be related to the Shadow at all. This last bit is backed up by a complete absence of sightings until seventeen years after the wall around the Forsaken district was finished. You also find a few reports about birds that were killed when they landed too close to it and one report about how it did not react to magic cast at it from a distance. Every report agrees that it is something that should be avoided if at all possible.

You take them to a table to examine them more closely, and find a layout of what is now known as the Forsaken district. This should help you get around that area, if you ever go there. And if you are able to get a copy.

You find a scrap of paper talking about three seals put in place to hold the Shadow. That scrap of paper says nothing else.

You find a book that talks about an armory-shrine dedicated to Celestia in the Temple of the Sisters.

You pull a book off the shelf. You are a good book finder.

Hm. Perhaps if we had a priest to sanctify the shrine, it would give us something of a safe zone. Is there a companion shrine for Luna? '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

"Dreamkicker, do you have some paper and ink? I want to copy this."

What's the book?

Roll #1 3 = 3

"I have absolutely no idea."

Can I find any more info on the forsaken district and its connection to the Shadow?

Roll #1 4 = 4

"Hey smartybutt, what do you make of this?"

See if there's anything about local legends about the Nightmare, moon or shadow.

Roll #1 1 = 1

I look at the paper about the seals.

Roll #1 9 = 9

If there is you can find no mention of it, but you do remember Dreamkicker saying that Celestia shrines in that temmple are safe areas.

A list of banned books from fifty years ago.

You can find numerous texts saying that the Shadow was chased to the Forsaken district and held there while a tall, thick wall was built to contain it. Further study could prove helpful.

You find a book titled Nightmare Moon's Shadowy Pleasure Dungeon. BANNED FOR HERESY has been stamped across the front in large red letters.

Using your past-sight magic you are able to a get a quick, but incomplete look at the page it came from. You would need to find the book itself if you want to know more.
In her temple, three seals bind her. Scattered close, not far, inside her home. Brought together only when an end to it is found.

This is all meanie stuff!
I toss it and look for another.

Roll #1 1 = 1

find some blank paper that I could use to copy the map of the forsaken district? '1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

Well, there's that, at least.
Keep reading, maybe there's something about the floor plan of the building, since it mentioned the armory shrine. '1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

Hand that book to Dreamkicker and keep looking for Moonlight myths

Roll #1 5 = 5

"Oh, great. Why did people in the past fixate so much on writing in riddles?"

Okay, more research on the wall itself.

Roll #1 6 = 6

"Whatchu got there, goat?"

"Something the unicorn might use."

Show xir Nightmare Moon's pleasure dungeon

Roll #1 7 = 7

I read the Nightmare Moon's pleasure dungeon.

You find a book full of pictures. Unfortunately they are full of pictures of people that drank poorly made potions and suffered the consequences.

You find some blank paper and a pen.

The wall itself is very thick, and very tall. Inside are layers upon layers of enchanted materials, spellbound crystals, runes, and even the bodies of those that died fighting the Shadow and its minions. All of these are dedicated to keeping everything inside the Forsaken district in, and everything outside the Forsaken district out. Over the Forsaken district a large, magically charged storm cloud acts as a lid. It is constantly attended by scores of pegasus and gryphon guards. You find a mention of several attempt to breach the wall.

You turn the pages for her.

It's pretty steamy. No wonder the stuck up inquisitors banned it.

Copy the map of the forsaken district '1d10'

Roll #1 8 = 8

"Hm. Perhaps we should ask the Inquisitors for more information here. Particularly about those seals and their connection to the shadow."

Wait, what's the forsaken District, anyway? Look it up.

"Seals do sound useful, don't they?"

what does the pleasure book say about seals

"I doubt they'll be very forthcoming. For all we know, they've probably sealed away the seals for being 'heretical.'"

File: 1385784473208.png (24.72 KB, 819x700, Unnamed city for CQ2.png, IO Google TinEye)

You copy it pretty well.

It is the walled off portion of the city. The Shadow and its minions were driven thereand held in place while a massive wall was built to contain their evil.

Some very naughty things. You are starting to think this is a work of fiction and not "one stallion's true and harrowing account of his bout with the alluringly powerful mare of the moon" as is claimed at the front of the book.

Smile to myself and show the others. "Here's a layout of the Forsaken District. What did you guys find so far?"

Ah, right.

"Anything we've found that a sunlight torch can't handle? "

"The sun priest mentioned that there perhaps would be a way to strengthen the shadow's bonds within the forsaken district. Those seals might be the way to do so. If they know more, I'm sure they'll see the value in helping us."

Good thing I'm a good potion maker!

"So what are we doing now? These books are boring…"

Peer over her shoulder at it

I'll shrug.
"Feel free to ask them."
Poke through the books while I wait for them to come to a decision. Anything interesting catch my eye? '1d10' Or at least something useful?

Roll #1 9 = 9

I narrow my eyes.
"I don't this author is a real doctor."

"What about you?"

I shrug
"People don't write books just to lie in them. It's common sense."

File: 1385784983611.png (Spoiler Image, 49.58 KB, 259x362, map scrap.png, IO Google TinEye)

You don't know what half of the words mean. The other half make you think maybe you shouldn't read it.

You find a scrap of a map.

Scrap of a map? Hmm.
"Unicorn, you always seem to have an odd knack for figuring things out from a glance. What do you make of this?"
"Piece of a map, and that there is an armory shrine of the Sun inside the temple. Other than that, nothing."

"I think we have some good information here about how the Shadow is sealed into its prison. But I think we need to talk to the Inquisitors for more information."

"Alright, should one of us go there now?"

"I was just going to talk to the head inquisitor now."

"Armory, huh? What do you think they have in there?"

"Nothin' special."

"Well then why do they write books?"
I bag the book.

I follow.

"Oh, mind if I follow in that case?"

"Come on."

"Probably just the shrine. I doubt it's a literal armory."

Nah. Big grown billy reads whatever he wants~

Trail along.
"To tell spread tales and information! And snacks."

Follow to the inquisitors.

"I dunno, there's got to be lots of shiny stuff in there."

"Really? What about the other stuff in there?"

You read it as best you can.
Roll not to blush.

All of you go up to the waiting room where the buffalo is.
"Yes? Do you all need something copied?"

"I knew some of those words. They looked true."

Roll #1 4 = 4

Well, since Dreamkicker never looked at that map fragment, I guess I'll have put it in my satchel before following the rest to the inquisitors.

"Huh? What words Pommy?"

"We need more information on the seals that hold the Shadow within the abandoned temple. We have reason to believe that those seals have been weakened or damaged, and have resulted in vampires being drawn to the city. There is precedent for such an occurrence, as other evils like the so-called 'Tainted Moonbeam' did not appear until after the Shadow did.

"The Priest of the Sun Temple suggested that something to seal the Shadow away might be hidden in the Forsaken District. Do you know more?"

I smirk.
"How'd you learn those words?"

You reach a part where he gets tied up with chains by Nightmare Moon. After that is a bunch of words you don't know mixed with a few you do, and also something about a blowdryer (ha, you know how to spell blowdryer and the author doesn't!) that doesn't make any sense. After that the chapter ends.

You put it in your satchel.

He frowns.
"This is above my authority to talk about. You will need to see the boss for that. Go on in."
He motions towards the room's other door.

"Uh… boring words. The boringest"
Smile at her

Nudge hard and give a look

In we go, then.

In through the door. I give a similar speech to the head honcho.

"Thank you." follow the others in.

"Pomelo, what are you doing?"

I give Pommy a look.
And then take a peek at the book in question.

I snigger.

I hold it up.

Roll #1 10 = 10

The three of you head inside. The gryphon is pulling a few books off a shelf.
"What is this about seals? None of you plan to try and breach the wall, do you?"

You look down at the book-

Just as you open your mouth wide and pop the entire thing inside. The buffalo inquisition hits you on the back of the head and takes the book from you, slipping it into his curly fur.
"No eating the books, goat. They'll make you sick."

I frown at Pomelo.
"Pommy. What. Was. That. Book?"

"More like we're going to try and clean up the ruined temple of the sisters, since we've got a hunch that it's what's drawing the vampires to the city.

"Bleh. It was gross is what it was."
Cough and hang my tongue out

"Pommy! We're trying to conduct negotiations here! Settle down."

I plant myself next to Bessy and stay quiet

"Yes, Lilly told me about the vampires. Please forgive me for not offering you any of my henchponies, but after what happened last time I believe we will keep this purge to ourselves. Feel feel to try your luck on your own, however."

"You may want to heal yourself. That should not have been in your mouth."

Pomelo is still in the other room with Bessy.

They're making an awful lot of racket, aren't they? Surely I can hear them.

"Can you tell us more about what's locked away back there? And how?" can I get a feel for why she's being so secretive? '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

I frown even deeper at him.
"You're going to be in big trouble later Pommy if you don't tell me what it was!"

I'll shake my head.
"There's no need to ask for forgiveness on this one."

Good point.

"The shadowy dead are back there. They are the things that would not stay dead after being killed time and time again. The Shadow is back there too, but bound."

"Thank you for understanding."

"Thank you for access to the library. It was just a shame I couldn't find a map to the old temple. That would have likely saved us a lot of time. I don't really want to be in there past sundown."

"How are they being bound?"

"We're not planning on breaching the wall. We think we need to strengthen it and whatever is holding the Shadow within the ruined temple. Do you know more on how to do that?"

"That was torn apart during the fight to reclaim this place, I am afraid to say."

"The undying are not bound. They have attempted to breach the wall a few times, but are always fought back."

He shakes his head.
"The wall is as strong as it can get. The seals you mentioned are seals you would use to stamp wax on an envelope, not seals that bind. They are meant to free the Shadow, in the event that a way to destroy it or rebind it in a better way is found."

"Were I more paranoid, I'd say that might have been one of the goals."

"Have you considered that it may be time to rebind the Shadow? It should be clear that the bindings have weakened."

"It is quite possible. It is rumored that there is a way to access the Forsaken District under the Temple of the Sisters. This is impossible to verify, of course."

He nods.
"Yes, but we do not have the numbers or materials for that. It is always possible that there are materials left behind inside the Forsaken district, but counting on that alone would not be wise."

"Not without a heavily armed and blessed expedition, anyway. But if we find such an access, we should seal it. Or at least notify a guard, or you."

"I don't see what other options you have. The vampires are not going away, and they have made living in the city almost impossible. Locking the spirit away is the most reasonable solution to the problem, given that you do not have the manpower to eradicate every vampire in the city."

"It was a dumb book that she didn't even need to have. Now ssssh they're talking!"

"I see.. is there nothing else you can tell us?"
Frown and stare at him, is he lying? '1d10'

Roll #1 9 = 9

He nods.
"Although not as big as would have been required earlier. The vampires won't have the element of surprise anymore, and it won't be random treasure hunters going in."

He ruffles his feathers.
"I did not say we would never do it. I said we would do it when we have enough people and materials. Until then we will continue to contain the vampire problem."

He's telling the truth, but you can tell there is stuff that he knows that he isn't sharing.
"The undying can be killed, but they will stand up after a few minutes and hunt you. They are stupid creatures, but they don't give up and there are lots of them."

The party is in the mansion that belong to the inquisitors. They have done a bit of looking through the library for clues and found, among other things, a scrap of map. They are now in the head inquisitor's office talking to him.

"How many is lots?"

"So when are we going to settle this problem of foul creatures? If you wait until you have 'enough', it won't be long till you have nothing but people feasted upon for blood!"

Lean in closer with a soft stare. "We really need to know what's back there, we're trying to help you, so that your city isn't overrun by monsters, please if you know more.. tell us."

"It isn't really killin' them if they get back up right after…"

"How long do you think you can contain the vampire problem? Eventually you will be forced to attack the source of the problem, and that, in all likelihood, lies within the ruins of that temple. The magic holding the shadow needs to be strengthened, or else you'll be overwhelmed."

"Yes, any knowledge you have would be appreciated."

"Several hundred, but the chances are they are spread around. The Forsaken District takes up a quarter of the city."

"You can all try whenever you want. After what happened in the basement we aren't doing anything until we have an overwhelming force."

The gryphon leans closer.
"It's been sealed for as long as Luna has been missing. Records vanish and decay. All I know is that it is dark, most likely in disrepair, and full of undead that will stand back up after a few minutes unless they get torn to shreds or burnt to a crisp. No one living has been in there and come back since the storm cloud was first made over it shortly after the last stone was laid in the wall."

He waves a claw.
"You know what I mean."

"We can contain it until we have overwhelming numbers."

"So what do you propose to do? Sit back and wait till we have no hope of ever beating them, then we try and proceed to feed them even more?"

"So what you're basically saying is you aren't gonna do anything at all."
I frown.

"You can try going in by yourselves. You all had great luck with the monster in the basement, somehow stopped the necromancers in the graveyard even after they executed their vile plan, and managed to survive a vampire ambush. If you luck holds I think you should all be able to destroy the vampire problem, but I will not risk a single life under my command to luck."

Nod and give him a kind smile. "Thank you."

I frown
"Well then how long until you get your overwhelming numbers?"

"We're going to need some definitive proof that we need to act as soon as possible."

"…do we have any?"

"Fine. Do you know anything else about binding the Shadow? Or do you have any idea of who might know? I'm afraid my specialty is divination, not abjuration."

"Only a month. We can keep the casualties caused by vampires acceptable until then."

"You're welcome."

"Proof of what?"

"The only way I know is to give it a host body. You can blast the shadows by themselves with magic, but that is slow and dangerous. By this time whatever shadows are left in the temple could have fused with the stones themselves, and you can destroy them without having to drive criminals ahead of you."

"Do you know of anyone at all who could help us?"

quietly listen to the others questions.

"A host body?"

"Have you checked the temples for any holy warriors eager to die for their gods? They are always a good, free source of extra muscle."

He nods.
"The fragments of the Shadow, in most recorded cases, have to posses living or once-living beings to wreak the most havoc. Once they have possessed a body they bind to it and become mortal, however."

"And then we kill the host body? Rather… gruesome, don't you think?"

"To prove that this is a matter we cannot wait out!"

"Once living beings are easy for me to procure."

"…Do ya really wanna wait here a month?"

"Oh, heya Andy! I didn't see ya pop up! Where were ya?"

I shift, unsettled by the course of the conversation.

"I don't…especially with those things out there."

"We can't. That's what I've been saying."

"I was here, doing research with Dreamkicker."

"No, then you destroy the host body. Most of the blood and guts dry out pretty fast once the body is possessed, so it's not too gruesome."

"The city won't fall into chaos or become a massive den of vampires, no. It can be waited on. Sending zombies of your own in ahead of you would be a good idea, but the vampires could pick them off before they could find shadows."

"Hm. I suppose our next course of action should be to talk to more of the temples."

"You think they know about this?"

"Maybe, but if nothing else they may be more willing to help. The Sun Temple was, after all."

"Of course the temples know about the vampires. Everyone does."

"Really? And they all just…do nothing?"
