Luna leads you back to the throne room where a massive table has been placed before the throne itself. On top of the table is an even smaller table for yourself and the princesses to use. You're not sure how you're going to get up there. Maybe you could ask on of the princesses for a ride?
Halberd himself is sitting on his throne, a mountain of crystals on the plate before him. The smell of cooked vegetables fills your nose even from where your standing beneath them. You never realized just how hungry you were until now. You never did get a chance to dig into those rations from your trip to Tartarus, but you consider that a blessing and a curse now.
"Greetings," Halberd booms, spreading out his claws. "I have no real understanding of what you ponies eat, but I'm assured by my servants that this is the finest assortment of food you'll find in all of the world."
>>651416 "You trust your servants judgment, so I am sure they will have gotten it right."
You glance over to Luna who has her wings spread out and is preparing to take off. When she looks back at you, her wings fold back and a faint blush colors her cheeks.
"Oh," she says, her looking at the table, then back to you. "Perhaps I may not be the proper size? It may not look dignified for either of us."
"Come on," Celestia says as she trots next to you. "I don't get to take anyone for rides too often and Luna's always been a bit uncomfortable with it."
Luna frowns at her sister and the blush broadens over her face.
>>651419 Celestia allows you to hop onto her back and she's off into the air the moment you're secure. Luna follows close behind as you all land on the larger table. Sure enough, there's a huge spread on the smaller table of various vegetables, fruits, and grains. There's enough food here to feed at least ten of you and there's two long benches on either side for seating. You dismount from Celestia and everyone takes their seat at the table. Celestia sits on one side, Luna on the other, both looking quite regal for the scene despite Emperor Halberd looming nearby.
Luna seems to be more focused on the food. Celestia glances over at you with a smile before following suit.
"Please," Halberd says and nods toward the table. "Have a seat."
>>651421 You seat yourself next to Luna and she places her hoof on your hand.
Halberd picks up a crystal, chomps down on it, and says, "Now, about entertainment…"
"There's no need to entertain, Halberd," Celestia says, using her magic to pick up a fork and knife. "Your conversations are usually more than intriguing enough."
"You flatter me, Celestia," Halberd says as he picks up another crystal, "but what kind of host would I be if I didn't provide some sort of show."
Luna magically raises her own knife and fork and places a few large, steamed carrots onto her plate. She cuts into one and juice flows out onto the dish. You assume it's mostly just water, but that herbal fragrance says otherwise.
"You would distract us from such a fine meal?" Luna says before taking a bite of the carrot from her fork.
The moment the food hits her tongue you can see her eyes widen for a moment. She closes them, taking exhaling a long sigh as she begins to chew her food slowly, savoring the flavor you can undoubtedly wait to taste yourself.
"Princesses," Halberd chuckles. "Don't tease an old dragon. What about you, human? How about a show?"
>>651422 "I have to admit that I have no idea what a dragon show would entail. But I can agree with the Princesses that your conversations are very intriguing, judging by our earlier talk."
>>651423 "I have to admit that I have no idea what a dragon show would entail. But I can agree with the Princesses that your conversations are very intriguing, judging by our earlier talk."
"Another flashy fire show or a display of combat skill again," Celestia says before taking a sip from her water goblet.
"Though I also enjoy our conversations, Emperor Halberd," Luna says after finishing her carrot. "I do not believe there is much else to be said on the topic of a stratagem for Tiamat."
"I would not exhaust all of our options, Princess Luna," Halberd says as he holds up a claw. "Each pathway must be explored to its fullest potential, given the proper amount of risk required."
Celestia places a slice of eggplant on her plate and says, "Including the resurrection of Glaurumat."
"That will always be my last choice," Halberd's smile fades as he speaks. "Although I have my finest scholars working on a method of allowing Glaurumat to assist us without resorting to summoning his physical presence here."
>>651424 "Speaking of Glauramat: When I visited Lucent, Luna's guard who got trapped by her in Tartarus, she said that Tiamat was confused about the seemingly resurrected Glauramat not making any moves to save her. Does that make any sense to you? From the encounters I had with her while being disguised as Glauramat I thought them to be arch enemies."
>>651425 "Speaking of Glauramat: When I visited Lucent, Luna's guard who got trapped by her in Tartarus, she said that Tiamat was confused about the seemingly resurrected Glauramat not making any moves to save her. Does that make any sense to you? From the encounters I had with her while being disguised as Glauramat I thought them to be arch enemies."
Halberd tosses a mound of crystals into his mouth and says while he chews, "Our mother and father loved each other enough to create the dragons, but hated each other enough to almost destroy this world with their conflict and conquest. On a smaller scale, it's not so different from a bad relationship."
Halberd swallows and clears his throat, causing the table to rumble a bit.
"Clearly the two still have feelings for each other, even with one of them have murdered the other. They just won't move past their differences and we're all petrified in fear of what would happen if they did."
>>651426 "Maybe that emergency plan involving Glauramat's resurrection is not such a good idea then. If he decides to take her side we are just facing twice the trouble."
>>651427 "Maybe that emergency plan involving Glauramat's resurrection is not such a good idea then. If he decides to take her side we are just facing twice the trouble."
"Sticking to the original plan then?" Halberd says, then lets out a yawn. "With Starswirl keeping a better eye on her, we should be able to release Tiamat when the chains are finished and, if all goes according to plan, have her back in her cell where she belongs in a few days."
"A few more days," Celestia repeats, taking a bite of her eggplant.
"I wish there was a method to hasten the forging," Luna says, pouting as the rest of her words flow into your mind. "There is so much of this world I want to show and so much more yet I have not explored."
Celestia swallows and agrees.
"Unfortunately," she continues, "any flaws in the chains would spell doom for us all. We can only trust that Gold Heart and Thorn do their best, just as we do ours."
>>651428 "I am not saying we should disregard that plan all together, just that we need to be careful when it comes to Glauramat since he might not react like we expected.
How exactly do your scholars plan do contact him without bringing him back to life anyway?"
>>651429 "I am not saying we should disregard that plan all together, just that we need to be careful when it comes to Glauramat since he might not react like we expected.
How exactly do your scholars plan do contact him without bringing him back to life anyway?"
"There's a spell that allows you to enter a pony's mind and converse with their thoughts as well as various aspects of themselves," Halberd explains, raising a towering goblet from off the table. "My scholars wish to do the same with Glaurumat's mind. They believe it would be fairly safe given the volume of harmony contained within it, but they also don't know what to expect."
Halberd takes a long drink from the goblet. A thin stream of his drink, dark gray and red in color, flows over his chin and drips off his horned beard. When the cup has been drained, he sets it down and speaks again.
"Many of them fear it would cause madness while the others think they might resurrect Glaurumat on accident. High risk, high reward. Too many unknowns."
>>651431 "So, they expect Glauramat to still linger within the artifacts he left behind? If that is the case I wonder if he still sleeps and dreams…"
"I don't see how considering he's dead," Halberd says and laughs for a moment. "At best, the dragon who goes in there would be talking to just a memory of who Glaurumat was. Glaurumat himself is long gone and won't return until he's made whole again."
Luna's voice enters your thoughts and she says, "I would accompany you into Glaurumat's dreams if I could, but it is as Halberd says. There should only be memories of who he was."
Everyone is quiet for a while as they eat. You join in, eating so much you actually become quite full. You've never had vegetables that succulent in your life and had no idea they could hold so many flavors within them. Halberd seems a bit disappointed that he could not provide proper entertainment for you and the princesses, but is glad you enjoyed the meal. Servants come and clean away the table and Celestia dismisses herself to bed. She informs you that she personally placed a guard outside of Lucent's room which causes Nightmare Moon's presence to flare. Luna gives you a kiss on the cheek and the presence fades, but not completely. Following Celestia, Luna also retires for the night until only you and Halberd remain at the table.
"I'll be going over a few things before I sleep," Halberd says as he pulls out a massive magnifying glass. "Feel free to stay if you wish."
Servants fly in and bring him stacks upon stacks of scrolls and parchment. Halberd may still hold some answers to questions you have, but it's been a long day and you could use the rest. A visit to Luna might not be a bad idea. Maybe check in on Lucent and Celestia as well. Lucent may have Celestia's guard, but she'd probably feel better with Baron there. You don't think she'd try to pull a move on you with him around either.
>>651432 Stay with Halberd at least for a few more moments. Ask him why he seems to be so sure that shackling Tiamat again won't be a big problem. The others seem to be a lot more worried about it.
>>651433 >Ask him why he seems to be so sure that shackling Tiamat again won't be a big problem. The others seem to be a lot more worried about it.
"Once the chains have been forged," Halberd says as he reads over the scrolls. "Tiamat will have to make a choice: stay in Tartarus and fight until we inevitably chain her back in her cell, or break out and fight where we'll definitely have some sort of trap waiting for her the moment she comes out."
With his massive claw, he makes a few marks on a scroll and a puff of fire sends it away.
"Things will be much easier once the chains are forged," Halberd says as he nods. "My worries will be almost eased then."
With a tap of his claw, he pauses for a moment. Halberd sets down his magnifying glass, flicks his tongue into the air, and stares at you.
"Tell me," he asks. "What will you do once Tiamat has been imprisoned? True, you are doing what you can to help us in our time of need, as little as that may be, but as I've told you, I see a potential for greatness in you. I would like to follow your story and, if you'll allow it, a taste of things to come."
>>651434 "I haven't thought about the time after Tiamat's defeat yet. I suppose I would like to see more of Equestria, travel around with the friends I made to get to know the country."
>>651435 "I haven't thought about the time after Tiamat's defeat yet. I suppose I would like to see more of Equestria, travel around with the friends I made to get to know the country."
"It is a beautiful country to be sure," Halberd smiles, "and just as treacherous. If there's anything you require, please do not hesitate to ask. Taloran has many resources available to it, and as the emperor, I have access to all of them."
He leans over and extends a claw over the table. It barely touches the underneath of your chin but you could feel how sharp it was from the way it cut through the air. Halberd's eyes have grown dark and hungry.
>>651441 "I feel like there is some kind of misunderstanding"
Halberd removes his claw and lets out a long, loud laugh.
"Relax, friend," he says. "You'll need a better sense of humor to survive in this world. Especially in times like these. The time for seriousness has passed, for now. Enjoy it."
>>651442 "For a second you had me worried there." Give him one of those fake stern looks.
"I can't help but feel like you are avoiding the question about the catch though. I cannot imagine you became the Emperor by promising all those resources you have at your disposal to random people you only met a few hours before."
>>651443 "For a second you had me worried there," you say, smiling through your feigned concern. "I can't help but feel like you are avoiding the question about the catch though. I cannot imagine you became the Emperor by promising all those resources you have at your disposal to random people you only met a few hours before."
"I became emperor by strength and will," he says, clenching his claw into a fist. "I have retained my title through praiseworthy action, high intellect, and indomitable ruthlessness towards my enemies."
Halberd opens his fist and shrugs.
"Or it could just be that I got lucky," he says as he reaches for his magnifying glass. "Dragon's intuition or something like that."
>>651444 "Either way I sure am glad to know you on our side.
I will leave you to your duties, it has been a long day."
Walk to the edge of the table and check if there is any way for us to get down.
I think going to bed is probably the best thing for now. Baron is future Anon's problem, Luna needs to be well rested for the forging and we can still talk to her in our dreams.
>>651445 "Either way I sure am glad to know you on our side.
I will leave you to your duties, it has been a long day."
You walk towards the edge of the table and realize that there's no way down. Celestia and Luna have left you stranded on a giant table with the Emperor of Dragons.
>>651447 While you do have some magical ability, an attempt at creating something like a disk you can use to float around seems a little bit beyond your reach. Still, it's worth a shot if you don't have to bother Halberd for a ride down.
>>651449 You managed to cast your light spell. It's about as effective as you'd imagine for helping you get down. You notice the table start to tremble as something moves behind you. Halberd towers next to you as he stands at full height next to the table. His claw is open and outstretched to you.
You make your way through the palace and eventually find yourself passing by Luna's room. You're bed is just one room over, but you'd be lying if you said you didn't want a repeat of your last night with the princess. Still… It's been a long day for both of you and you might be better off with some more sleep. You'll still be able to see Luna in your dreams, after all.
>>652312 It would be better for both of you to get some more sleep tonight. Easing yourself into bed, you enter your dreams moments after your head hits the pillow. You're back in Canterlot castle but as you walk through the halls and towards the courtyard to meet Luna, every door you open just seems to lead down another long hallway.
"You won't hold me back forever Luna," a dark, female voice sounds through the hall. "If you won't release me then he will."
"Wish with all your might, Nightmare Moon," Luna snaps, "but he would never unleash an evil like you into Equestria."
Nightmare Moon is here? Would it be safe to call out to Luna and let you know you're here? It might be better just to stay low, but if things get dangerous out there, you need to make sure you can protect Luna.
>>652314 Actually this might not be too bad, maybe NMM will listen to us and we can resolve this conflict. We should stop randomly opening doors for now though. Ask Luna via dream-telepathy where she is and if we can open doors without accidentally releasing Nightmare Moon.
>>652317 >Ask Luna via dream-telepathy where she is and if we can open doors without accidentally releasing Nightmare Moon.
"And there he is," Nightmare Moon says, her her sinister laughter booming through the dream as the castle fades away around you.
There in the courtyard stands Luna before a giant birdcage. In the center of the cage is Nightmare Moon, a tall, dark alicorn with armor similar to Luna's and a matching cutie mark.
"You thought you could hide him from me?" Nightmare Moon says, scowling at Luna from the cage. "He is bound to find me no matter where I am. It is in his very nature."
Luna looks at you and lowers her head while Nightmare Moon laughs again.
"Come now, lover," Nightmare Moon's mane motions you to come further as she speaks. "After so much time apart you must be aching for us to be together again."
>>652319 You move closer to the cage, but stand by Luna and ask what Nightmare Moon is talking about.
"As you can see," says Luna, "Nightmare Moon has gained enough power to manifest herself into her own form within my dreams. She has done nothing more than torment me since her arrival."
"Release me and I won't have to torment you," Nightmare Moon points out. "You've allowed the darker part of yourself to take over before, what's the harm in letting it happen again? We've moved past ruling over an eternal night. You know that as well as I do."
Ignoring Nightmare Moon, Luna continues with "She says that while she was trapped within the moon, the two of you developed a romantic relationship and you aided in her escape, just as the tales foretold."
"Romantic relationship?" Nightmare Moon scoffs. "He might not remember what we did, but I'm sure his body does."
Nightmare Moon smiles at you, her eyes drawing you in with their alluring gaze.
>>652321 "I do not remember any of that. Maybe she did have a relationship with the stars, but then again, I split off from the stars and became myself."
>>652323 "I do not remember any of that. Maybe she did have a relationship with the stars, but then again, I split off from the stars and became myself."
"Say what you will," Nightmare Moon says and frowns, "but I know what you really are and you will help me escape whether or not that is your intention."
"She has been exceedingly persistent on this matter," Luna says as she glares at Nightmare Moon. "Whatever her purpose for being here, I know it can not be good."
"If you'd put aside your distrust for a moment and listen," Nightmare Moon hisses, "I could help you with Tiamat. She's the reason I'm here to begin with."
>>652325 Ask Luna if she is sure that she can keep her in the cage. If yes, it won't hurt to listen to what NMM has to say. Maybe we get some information that we can also use without unleashing her.
>>652326 >Ask Luna if she is sure that she can keep her in the cage.
"I can not be sure," Luna says shaking her head. "She appeared in the cage like this. According to her account, she has been a captive here since her revival and only you or I can release her: I as the governing body and you as the stars who 'aid her escape'."
>>652327 >you as the stars who 'aid her escape'. In that case we better do nothing for the moment. Don't want to release her by accidentally saying or doing something wrong. Just let NMM talk for now.
>>652328 "I may not be able to sustain a body of my own," Nightmare Moon says, "but I can at least say that Tiamat does plan to use me against you. She hopes that by reviving me, I will overtake Luna and make it impossible to forge the chains until I am apprehended by the Elements of Harmony, thus buying her more time to escape. But she is a fool. No one can control the cosmic power that is Nightmare Moon."
>>652329 "That seem like a bold statement. After all, you are in a cage right now. And it would take you time to break out. All Tiamat needs to do is use you for a short time to stop the forging of the chains."
>>652330 "That seem like a bold statement. After all, you are in a cage right now. And it would take you time to break out. All Tiamat needs to do is use you for a short time to stop the forging of the chains."
"That is what she expects of me," Nightmare Moon says with a nod, "but that is not my goal. Luna knows better than anyone what my true intentions are, but those aside, I would be more than willing to help you imprison Tiamat and forge the chains. Cage or not, I can still be released in times of great need. When you were in danger, you called to me and I answered. Tell me: How was I able to do that if I was imprisoned in this cage from the beginning?"
>>652331 "Looks like a magical cage to me, it might have dragged you back after you escaped for a moment." "Either way, releasing you would mean losing Luna. You said yourself that you can't sustain a body of your own. Speaking about that, what exactly are you anyway?"
>>652332 "Looks like a magical cage to me, it might have dragged you back after you escaped for a moment."
"That rings true enough," Nightmare Moon says and sighs, slumping against her cage. "Once my aid was no longer needed, Luna restrained me once more, but that is naturally what the governing body will do to any unwanted guests."
"Either way, releasing you would mean losing Luna. You said yourself that you can't sustain a body of your own. Speaking about that, what exactly are you anyway?"
"You wouldn't lose Luna," Nightmare Moon answers as she rights herself. "It would be a temporary trade off whenever you needed my assistance. As for me, I am Nightmare Moon as much as Luna is. She's told you that we are one in the same, but at the moment, Luna is the one holding the reins, so to speak. Or did you mean something along the lines of what I represent? How I'm Luna's darker instincts and desires, her wants over her needs?"
>>652334 "I meant her as a pony. While you two might belong to the same being, you are clearly two different consciousnesses."
Luna smiles as this.
>>652335 "Do you want to tell us you would be fine with going back to your cage once you are no longer needed?"
"Of course not," Nightmare Moon says as she stomps a hoof against the cage. "But if there is a way to force us into one being, there is a way to separate us and I will find a way. What poor standing have I achieved in your eyes that I would warrant such wary behavior?"
>>652336 >What poor standing have I achieved in your eyes that I would warrant such wary behavior?
"It's like I told you, I don't remember any of what happened before I impacted in Canterlot's garden. The only things I know about you are what others told me. And the only way to find out if they are true would be to let you take control of Luna. If there was another way, I might be willing to try it." At least I don't think that NMM is any threat to Quest Anon.
>>652338 "It's like I told you, I don't remember any of what happened before I impacted in Canterlot's garden. The only things I know about you are what others told me. And the only way to find out if they are true would be to let you take control of Luna. If there was another way, I might be willing to try it."
"I will admit that you have no reason to free me," she says, "but consider what I'm willing to do for you. Playing both side may give you an edge against our common enemy. I agree that there is risk, but the risk here is nowhere near as great as it would be seeking it from Glaurumat. Allow me to help you by working together with Tiamat and in return, all I ask is that you find a way for me to inhabit my own body."
"The Elements of Harmony will put you back where you belong as part of me," Luna says, stepping towards the cage. "And when they do-"
"Until they do," Nightmare Moon leans forward and shouts at Luna, "you may as well take what I'm offering you because I don't like this anymore than you do."
>>652339 Try to calm them down, they will be forced to share a body for quite a bit longer, they more they hate each other the less pleasant it will be for them.
Also tell NMM that she will have to make this suggestion to Luna, not to me. I am hardly in any position to hand her Luna's body, even if I agreed with her plan.
>>652340 You wish you could do something to calm them down, but you don't know where to begin. >Also tell NMM that she will have to make this suggestion to Luna, not to me. I am hardly in any position to hand her Luna's body, even if I agreed with her plan.
Nightmare Moon and Luna both pause their conflict for a moment and look at you.
"Do you agree with it?" Luna asks while Nightmare Moon smirks.
>>652341 "For now, no. I do not know Nightmare Moon so I cannot trust her. And Halberd seemed sure enough that we will be able to beat Tiamat without any bigger problems."
"I do have to agree with her though that collaborating with her might be a better emergency plan than releasing Glauramat. With Glauramat, nobody knows what he will do, at least with Nightmare Moon we can apparently be sure that she would be somewhat willing to listen to me.
I still would not like it, it would make you a prisoner in your body in your own body until we found a way to get Nightmare Moon out of it."
>>652342 "For now, no.
Nightmare Moon rolls her eyes.
"Need I remind you that I don't want Luna's body?" Nightmare Moon says. "Taking control of Luna is the least of my concerns, but if you don't want me to help you than I'll wait. You'll come to me eventually."
"Silence," Luna snaps at Nightmare Moon again. "I will not have your vulgar tongue poisoning his heart and mind."
"Mmm, goodness no," Nightmare Moon says with a brief cackle. "I wouldn't dream of it."
Another louder laugh rings out through the courtyard and then is cut short by Nightmare Moon's sneer.
She glares at you and says, "You however have been quite ignorant about things, haven't you? Making sure Lucent is being cared for at all times, refusing poor Luna's advances when she finally has time to spend with you, interrogating her and discussing Tiamat with Halberd when all she really wanted was a quiet dinner and some affection."
Luna hangs her head as Nightmare Moon speaks, and you can feel the dark mare's power beginning to flow out beyond the cage.
"She had to practically drag you by the hand for some sort of intimate contact," she continues, stomping the cage and causing another wave of power to flow through the courtyard.
"Enough," Luna says and drawing Nightmare Moon's attention away from you. "Had you not been here, we would have more than made up for those instances. He is only concerned with the well-being of Equestria and those of his friends."
"And what of your well-being Luna?" Nightmare Moon says. lowering herself before the princess. "Do we not love this man? Do you not desire him above all else?"
Luna looks to you, smiles for a moment, and then answers with "Of course I do and you know that."
"Then why do you allow him to treat you this way?" Nightmare Moon asks. "Why not claim him where he stands as yours and yours alone?"
Luna laughs and says, "I do not need to. Patience, Nightmare Moon. The time will come when we are able to be together and express our love freely, but we must be patient."
Luna reaches a hoof into the cage and places it to Nightmare Moon's cheek. The flow of power begins to recede and the courtyard returns to normal.
>>652348 "Luna, Nightmare Moon said her true goal wasn't eternal night anymore, and that you knew that. What is her real goal?"
"You," Luna answers. "Before, it might have been overthrowing my sister and ruling over Equestria in eternal night, but now, all she wants is you in all of her dark splendor."
>>652350 "Giving up world domination to be with me?" Wiggle your eyebrows at NMM. "Maybe I should woo Tiamat to convince her of staying in her cage."
"I never gave up world domination," you hear Nightmare Moon mutter from the cage. "You just gave my heart something else to want. Without you, all that was left was my revenge against Equestria and Celestia. All joking aside, I'll fight her myself if she even puts a claw on you. Allow me to be perfectly clear."
The full force of Nightmare Moon's power washes over you and you feel yourself being pulled closer to the cage. Nightmare Moon leans her face past the bars just enough to where you can feel her power pressing against your skin and her breath brushing against your ear as she whispers.
"You. Are. Mine."
Your vision fades. Memories of Nightmare Moon's passionate cries fill your thoughts while lust and ecstasy overwhelm your senses. A strange vibration tingles throughout your body and you notice something pulling on your waist.
You fall back into the courtyard and see Luna holding you close, resting her head against yours.
"Forgive me," Luna says, "I meant to stop her sooner but-"
"You had no such intention," you hear Nightmare Moon say as she shivers. "You wanted every moment of that, but you knew it wasn't right."
Luna frowns at Nightmare Moon, her face flushed.
"You really should learn to let yourself go every once in a while," Nightmare Moon says and composes herself. "I had no idea we could be so chaste with something like this."
