Luna Quest /qt/ Thread: http://mlpg.co/qt/res/217221.html

>Tiamat tells you that her plan is to simply hold Lucent hostage and stop the forging of the chains

>You ask what makes her believe you have any power to stop the forging of the chians, but Luna's presence is proof enough of that, as Tiamat points out
>To put Tiamat at a disadvantage, you devise a plan using information Luna has given you about Gluarumat
>Since Tiamat doesn't know what was behind the door that had been placed in your mind, you falsely reveal yourself as Glaurumat in human form
>The fear you thought to put in Tiamat, however, manifests itself in a violent rage as she crushes your neck in her hand and roars in your face
>When asked why Tiamat fears Glaurumat, Celestia explains: "Glaurumat's power is overwhelming. No one can overcome it alone and Glaurumat was the only thing keeping Tiamat from claiming this world as her own. Not only that, but Glaurumat is the only one capable of truly killing Tiamat."
>Luna continues: "When Tiamat sought to usurp Glaurumat he nearly killed her. Had it not been for the aid of the other races of Equestria, her life would have ended there as would the rest of life in Equestria. By her greed did she incite a rage in Glaurumat, and by her betrayal did she ensure her death by his claws. Should Glaurumat be resurrected, she knows she will die."
>You also learn that Glaurumat's body is buried in the land beneath Taloran and should the city fall, the Mind will be reunited with the Body, and Glaurumat will resurrect
>Together with the Princesses, Gold Heart, Thorn, and Pierce, you attempt to devise a plan to rescue Lucent
>Celestia suggests tricking her somehow
>Pierce suggests using your position as Glaurumat to lure her over to your side
>Gold Heart understands that neither or Tiamat can have what you want without giving up something, so she suggest figuring out a way to have Tiamat give up Lucent willingly, if you don't want to go sneaking around Tartarus to save her.
>If they want to get Tiamat on your side, they'll have to go without you
>You'll also have to figure out a way to keep Tiamat out of your dreams to keep her from finding out the truth about Glaurumat
>You think to ask Star Swirl more about Glaurumat, but according to the princesses, he knows nothing more than they do and they've told you everything
>Pierce offers his assistance to you if you need it
>Pierce: "As advisor to the king, it would be better if we took care of this situation as soon as possible. It is clear to me now that you are a very important part of making that happen."
>Everyone else starts forging again, leaving you alone and wondering what to do now.
>You need to save Lucent, that's for sure. But you don't know how, and now you have someone who thought of you as just something to play with as her worst enemy. This is probably both good and bad, but until you do something or Tiamat does, you're not really sure which. You do need to do something though… Or do you? Would it really be so bad to just wait and see what Tiamat does next? There's no reason for her to kill Lucent if it'll just bring Glaurumat down on her head. It might just be best to do nothing. It's not like she knows you're still forging the chains anyway.

I'd say our first action is to ask Luna how we can keep Tiamat out of our dreams to make sure she doesn't figure out it was a bluff
And then we go and poke Star Swirl because I am sure he knows something. If he does then coming up with a plan to save Lucent might be systematical rather than just trying something at random.

"Some silly guard gets nabbed and you want to save her?" Star Swirl says and scoffs. "She's better off dead. Fooling Tiamat into thinking you were Glaurumat probably did nothing more than make her angry. If your friend wasn't dead before, she probably is now."

A powerful magic force grips your body, preventing you from moving and the blue cloud of smoke wraps itself around your head. Under it's weight, your head feels heavy and you can't breathe.

"Allow me to make things clear for you," Star Swirl's voice whispers into your ear, his words calm and precise. "Equestria is not in need of m,y protection. Tiamat is still in Tartarus for the time being, Glaurumat is still dead, and the princesses are alive and well. Your selfishness sickens me and you're willingness to endanger the many around you in order to save one friend is laughable. Should we use the Harmonyllium before we go down? Or save it for later?

What we should definitely do before we enter is ask Pierce to supply us with better equipment. Preferably something that might make us look like a dragon in human form.
We should also give Luna her gift.

I wonder if our key could open the portal too and what it would do to it - but if it does anything it probably also alarms Tiamat.

So, do we discuss this here or in the /qt/ thread?

Anyway, I have been thinking and I think that we can ignore Tiamat for now - Star Swirl said he will keep her away from us and we'll only have to deal with other monsters down there.

So if we use the Harmonyllium, it should be on something that allows us to get in and out as quickly as possible, but its effect also has to extend to two people. No point in sneaking past everything and getting to Lucent if we still have to fight our way back out because whatever we came up with doesn't work on her.
Something like a large invisibility cloak would be fine I guess. Or we combine it with something to create strong disabling devices. We could make a ring out of it, slam a topaz into it and hope that this means it can unleash a blinding flash light or something like that.
If someone has a good idea how to do it, we could also try a teleport device that brings us right back to Glauramat's mind/Luna/some other beacon.

Alternatively, we use it on something unrelated to our trip into Tartarus. Anon suggested in an earlier session that we could merge it with the gift for Luna - its supposed to remind her of us so maybe it would allow her to always know where we are if it has a Harmonyllium inlay.

What we should definitely do before we head down is ask either Star Swirl or one of the Princesses how to unlock the cells in Tartarus. Lucent is in Tiamat's old cell, would be a shame if we get down there unharmed and then can't free her.

Also checked some old sessions again since I was wondering about something and:
>"Speaking about the dogs, I found this in one of their caves - it looks nothing like anything I've seen before and Luna didn't recognize it either, do you have any idea what it could be?"
>You see Celestia's magic fade as her eyes grow wide for a moment. The aura of her magic reappears around the cup, just before it manages to land on the table.
>"Where did you-" Celestia starts to say before she sees Luna coming up with three of the cooks behind her.

We gotta go to Celestia again and ask her why she didn't want Luna to know about the cube back then - its "only" Harmonyllium, it shouldn't have been anything that she needs to hide from her sister.

A few things I had already forgotten about which I found again when I read over the old sessions:
>Tiamat is supposedly immune to all magic and invulnerable to all forms of physical attack
>Tiamat is not out for revenge but just wants to reclaim what she feels belongs to her (though we might have changed that with our bluff)
>there was some protection spell cast on the crater we left with our entry that blew up in Luna's face when she tried to investigate it with magic
>that magic is older than the Princesses themselves (could be explained by us being a star)
>when we let the moonlight shine through the key on the crater it resulted in the exact opposite shape of the moon on the ground (maybe this is relevant later if a full moon or lunar eclipse is mentioned)

 No.639821

>>639820
Actually, now that I read it again, why didn't Luna recognize it was Harmonyllium anyway? She helped forge the original chains, she should know what it looks like.

 No.640462

You may not know anymore about Tiamat or Glaurumat than you did before, but you know a little more about Tiamat's prison and Tartarus. You've also got Starswirl's help while you're going after her, as much as he can provide anyway. Everyone is doing what they can to save Lucent, though you wish you didn't have to fight certain people for that help.

Baron would no doubt be willing to help you, but once he knows Lucent's been captured, he could be more of a hindrance than a help.

And then there's the Harmonyllium. You want to find an effective use for it, and maybe something you can also gift to Luna, in addition to the gift you already have her. You've had plenty of opportunities to give it to her in the past, but it's just always slipped your mind. There has been a lot going on lately, so that's understandable.

Time to make a game plan.

 No.640463

>>640462
I would say the most important things right now are to

>find out how we can enter cells in Tartarus

>find out why Celestia tried to hide what the Harmonyllium was from Luna, and why she didn't recognize it despite helping to forge the original chains

The second one should definitely be done before we use the Harmonyllium and Celestia should also know about the cells so I would be in favor of going to her for a few questions as first thing we do.

 No.640464

>>640463
You might have dismissed Starswirl a little earlier than you should have, you still have some more questions about Tartarus now that you think about it, although, he's busy keeping Tiamat wandering around the labyrinth. Interrupting him again might cause another slip up like before and get someone else hurt.

You try to remember why Celestia was trying to hide the Harmonyllium from Luna. During a previous conversation she'd said something about it being a possible way home and that if Luna knew, it might upset her. But why didn't Luna recognize the Harmonyllium when she first saw it, even though she was using it when they fused the original chains.

Oh right, I forgot about that one. That would explain it, though it still leaves the question why Luna didn't recognize it - maybe there IS something special about it.
I assume the Princesses are still at Glauramat's mind, so just head down there again.

Okay. We should go and look for Pierce and ask him for a backpack with a bit of food and maybe some bandages. Should also be big enough that we can carry Lucent in it and still have our hands free in case she's too injured to walk on her own.

Pierce enters the Mind and converses with one of the guards. When you approach, he gives you a casual nod.

"Are you heading into Tartarus?" he asks.

"Unless Tiamat suddenly changes her mind and decides to free Lucent, I kind of have to.
Say, do you have a backpack large enough to carry a pony I could borrow? If Lucent is injured I need a way to carry her while still having my hands free. Who knows if I have to climb a wall or fight of some clingy pest down there.
A bit of food and maybe some dressing material would be good, too."

If anyone else is here seems kind of quiet today
, what if we use the Harmonyllium to make a compass out of it? It enhances whatever its used to build, so such a compass should probably lead us wherever we need to go

Pierce summons up a flame and quill with a plume of fire from his breath.

"I will acquire the requested materials immediately," Pierce says as he takes a few notes. "I don't suggest going alone, but I doubt you'll find anyone else to go with you. If that turn's out to be the case…"

Pierce pauses to set the scroll aflame with his breath, sending it to some unknown recipient.

"I shall accompany you."

"I advised King Halberd to allow me to accompany you," Pierce explains. "I have done all I can from this side of the gate into Tartarus. To further advise the King, I require more knowledge of the situation on Tiamat, and in order to acquire that information I must enter Tartarus myself. A firsthand account from one of his own would be much more worthy to the king."

Pierce smiles at you and a dark chuckle escapes him.

"'Advisor' is just a title," Pierce says. "My talents go far beyond words of wisdom."

He extends a claw out before him and flexes open his talons. Each one as dark as the gate behind you and as sharp as the deadliest blade.

"You can trust in that," he says as he exits the mind. "I will be joining you from here on out and inform you of when the requested materials have been gathered."

"A normal compass maybe. But a compass made of Harmonyllium?"

You pull out the cube and show it to Pierce.

"Hmm," he says, leaning forward to inspect the metal. "If you need it quickly, you'll need a dragon to do the work, one that's quick and precise with his claws."

Pierce swiped the cube from your hand and breathes his fire upon the Harmonyllium. The flames die as quickly as they appeared and the Harmonyllium goes with them.

"We should be on our way," says Pierce as he climbs into the carriage leading up. "She doesn't like to be kept waiting and it'll be done before we get there."

"Where is Lucent?!" he says.

Baron stops dead before he can even come close to you. His eyes widen for a moment before her glares at the floor.

"How?"

>>640498
"Tiamat stole her. We're stealing her back."

"Then you know I'm going with you," he says. "You won't be able to stop me from coming."

"And what will you do, little unicorn," Pierce says, stepping forward. "Charge bravely into Tartarus after her with no plan against an enemy who cannot be defeated through any conventional means?"

"Doesn't matter," Baron says, shaking his head. "If he's going, I'm going. Lucent's been gone since this morning and that's more than enough time for him to have made up a plan."

"I'm not going to just sit here and do nothing while I wait for you to bring Lucent back," Baron says as he walks up and prods your stomach with his hoof. "I'm going in with or without you. If you'd rather go in saving one pony instead of two, I suggest you have my back on this and come with me."

Dude, you've got as much chance of convincing Baron to not go as you do of convincing us to not go. It's annoying that our stealth party is now 3, but maybe Starswirl seperating us'll be enough to keep us away from T-Mutt.

I'm more suspicious of how eager Pierce was, myself.

Plus, Tiamat's said she's unable to harm Lucent: I'm wondering if there might not be a third party involved here, that's currently got Lucent.

You look to Pierce and he glares at Baron.

"This is all too much trouble to be going after one pony for," Pierce says, rubbing his eyes for a moment and then waving away his frustrations. "Do what you want. This 'Lucent' is obviously important to the both of you. I'm just here to gather intelligence."

Well, I didn't really expect I'd be able to talk you out of it.

As for the plan, I'm getting a compass made that will hopefully help guide us through the shifting landscapes of Tartarus. The princess and I left a message to distract Tiamat a bit, so the hope is between that and Tartarus acting to keep Tiamat contained we'll be able to grab Lucent without Queen T noticing.
Beyond that, we'll just have to be on our toes.

"Not quite," Pierce pats his head as he walks past. "There's a few things we have to pick up first."

You hear Baron growl as you come up alongside him.

"As for the plan," you say, "I'm getting a compass made that will hopefully help guide us through the shifting landscapes of Tartarus.  No.640513

>>640512
Well, we do know where to look for her, if the compass works as expected we know how to get there and we do know that we most likely won't have to fight Tiamat. That's a pretty decent advantage over him.

>>640513
Yeah, you're right. Y'know, Pierce said he was cleared to head on in: I wonder if Baron took the time to get permission.
Speaking of which, how do you feel about Pierce? I want to default to letting him prove himself, but Goldheart is very much distrusting of him, and I've been burnt by that before in a quest…
He'd have been in a good position to let that damage to Glauramut's mind happen that cost us a day's work on the chains, too.
Hope Lucent's holding out alright.

 No.640515

>>640514
Hm, so far I didn't even think of him potentially betraying us and just thought having a dragon would be a nice backup.
I guess we should gave a watchful eye on him in case he is tempted to side with Tiamat.
