>Last time on Luna Quest
>After checking on Luna to see if she was alright, you decided to let her sleep and help out Gold Heart at the castle training grounds
>You picked up a practice sword and shield and Gold Heart set you up with a little combat training of your own
>In the first fight, you came out victorious against a couple of Earth ponies, but not without getting a nasty bruise on your shin.
>Gold Heart sized you up a bit and then sent you back out into the fray against two Pegasus ponies
>You defeated them with ease, but Gold Heart got onto you for using a little more strength than you should have
>The last fight against a pair of Unicorns proved to be too much for you
>Taking a chance on a rush attack after dodging behind crates and barrels, you missed and ended up getting hurt by simultaneous magic attacks
>While you fought a little sloppy, Gold Heart said you did well for the most part and left you to rest on a cot next to her on the dais

Fire is raging all around you and smoke is billowing through the castle halls. You need to get back outside and then you can figure out a better way out of here. The path seems familiar to you and you hurry towards where you believe the exit to be. Bursting through the door and into the open air, the sky above you is split between day and night. The moon is crumbling apart and the sun is threatening to go supernova before you. In the center, a large shadowed beast with terrible massive wings is clinging to a tower between the sun and the moon. It lets out a terrible roar and you clamp your hands over your ears to block out the noise. You look back around the courtyard and spot Princess Luna among the fleeing ponies.

She approaches you with a calm and serene air about her, and asks, "So this is your dream?"

"Yeah," you shout over the screams. "Seems to be exactly the same."

"This is all rather disturbing," Luna says, walking around you as she gazes about the castle. "Then again, most nightmares are, but it doesn't have to be this way."

"What do you mean?"

Luna smiles at you and says, "We all have control over our dreams. We just do not know we have this ability. If you like, I can teach you how to better control your dreams."

"I've never been good at lucid dreaming, I'd really appreciate it."

Luna seems delighted by your answer and places a hoof over her mouth to restrain her giggling.

"I have a great amount of passion for dreamwielding," she says, summoning up a few fluttering balls of silver light. "Allowing yourself the freedom to create whatever you wish, bringing peace to the chaos of your mind, is an activity I find positively delightful."

She nuzzles into one of the lights and it fades away with the others.

"Now, let us change the scenery into something more peaceful, hm?" Luna suggests. "Nightmares like these are caused by conscious or unconscious fears that we have little control over once we begin experiencing them. My presence here will make this easier for you, but I have no influence over the world itself or whatever you create."

"Wait, aren't I lucid right now? Isn't that all I need to start dream wielding right now?"

"You are lucid with my assistance," Luna explains. "Honing this craft with me will allow you to dream wield of your own accord in the future. This skill could become useful to you in the future, should you continue to pursue it."

>>490362

"So what's the first step? I'd really love to stop the screaming."

"You must think of a place," she says. "Think of any place other than here, and have a clear image of this place. The greater the detail, the better."

>>490361

This action takes a Perception Check

As you look around at the burning castle and the screaming ponies, you attempt to picture a much different scene. Perhaps a nice grotto with a hot pool, and a sun that isn't about to explode. There should be birds and the sound of running water. A soft breeze should be blowing by and it should be cooler.

Try as you might, the best you manage to make out of this little scene is that there is no more screaming. Everything around you is quiet and empty. The shadow creature is gone, the ponies are gone, and the castle is frozen in time. The fires don't move, the moon has stopped crumbling, and the sun has stopped threatening to destroy itself. The sky is still cracked, but at least it's not crashing on your head this time.

>>490375

Luna looks around, taking note of how little you've changed the world with a small smile.

"The silence is an excellent start," Luna says with a nod. "Any kind of noise can disrupt your thought process and distort your ability to dreamwield. Do you care to try again?"

490378

>>490377
I'd really like too, the scenery is pretty tragic.

490381

>>490377
"Sure. I just hope the screaming doesn't start again."

"Yeah."
Try imagining the same thing. But make it nighttime instead of daytime. With a big full moon.

I bet she'd like that our idea of a peaceful scene is at night.

"I'd really like too, the scenery is pretty tragic. I just hope the screaming doesn't start again."

This time, you feel it would be better to work with what you have instead of trying to create something new. Looking up to the sky, you manage to cover the sun in darkness until it is no longer visible. Then, using the cracks in the sky, you transform them into rivers of stars that swirl and dance through the cosmos above you. The moon is still broken up a bit, but at least it's stopped crumbling. Things are also a lot cooler at night, so the fires shouldn't be here. You are now left with the charred remains of an old abandoned castle and a beautiful night sky above you.

Luna watches you work, her eyes lighting up as you shift everything into place.

"This is lovely," Luna giggles. "I think this will manage for now, that is, unless you wish to continue?"

Though you say that, you still manage to sneak in a few fully blossomed flowers here and there about the courtyard. Nothing as full-fledged as a field, but still something to brighten up the scenery a bit.

"I think he held me responsible for what happened to you," you say. "No one could've known that was going to happen. I never wanted you to get hurt."

"It is quite alright," Luna says as she approaches you. "I am glad that I have so many who worry for my safety, but I assure you that I am able to handle whatever disaster may befall me. My sister, among others, seem to have trouble understanding this. Though they have every right to, I suppose."

She sighs for a moment, then looks up at you.

"There was a time when I nearly brought about the end of Equestria and destroyed my sister on two separate occasions," she tells you. "I was not myself then, though it is who I was before that allowed me to transform into such a menace. I feel they fear me now, more than ever."

Success was >70

You look at your empty hands and think back to the sword and shield you had while training with Gold Heart. The feel of the grip in your hand, the weight of the sword, and the way it was crafted all come flooding back to you with ease as the weapon forms in your hand. The targe comes just as easily and you face Princess Luna, ready for the battle to begin.

"Excellent," Luna commends you. "You are grasping the idea behind dreamwielding much better than I had expected. Now, let us see if you can maintain composure under mental assault."

Luna flaps her wings and takes off into the air, leaving a floating rapier before you. An aura of magic begins to glow around her horn and the rapier thrusts forward.

This fight will involve perception rolls before every action that will be used to maintain the presence of your sword and targe. Failing a roll will result in the temporary loss of your sword and targe and another roll will be made to recover them.

"To some," Luna continues, "what you did could be seen as foolish (and it was), but it also means you have a caring heart. In a battle, something like that may end your life."

>>490640

Luna looks up at you, eyes narrow with concern.

"Truer words have never been spoken," she says, "so please, heed Gold Heart's words and her training. We are about to embark on a dangerous quest, and I would prefer it if there were no casualties."

"It is interesting that you bring this into the conversation," Luna notes. "When you were in combat with me, who was I to you?"

"A sparring partner…and a friend."

You're the princess of Equestria and obviously not really an enemy. Not unlike the guards during the training exercises.

I'd go with what Hiro said. Wouldn't make much sense if we come up with a bunch of conflicting answers now, anyway.

"A sparring partner…and a friend."

Luna's eyes light up as her mouth curls into a smile.

"You are too kind," Luna says, closing her eyes for a moment and taking a deep breath. "It has been a very long time since I have had a friend other than my sister. The Elements of Harmony have also been kind to me, but with my royal duties, I have had little time to enjoy their gift of friendship."

She rests her head against your shoulder, the soft fragrance of flowers and fresh, cool night air filling your nose from her mane.

"Thank you for giving me this moment," she says as she looks up at you. "And for being my friend."

Hug her.
"Any time…Feel free to come and visit whenever you like."

Certainly.

490680

Lean our head against hers and wrap one arm around her.

"And thank you for accepting my friendship… and saving me from this nightmare."

"And thank you for accepting my friendship… and saving me from this nightmare," you say as you wrap your arms around her in a tight hug. "Feel free to come visit whenever you like."

The two of you hold the embrace for a moment, before Luna stands up and walks towards the castle doors.

"The time has come for me to raise the moon and bring about the night for Equestria," she says as the doors open up for her. "I will see you soon."

As she exits, the doors close behind her and you can feel a weight pressing against your abdomen. You look down, but don't see anything there. The weight lifts itself off of you and then back down again, shaking you until your vision slips into complete darkness.

Your eyes blink open and standing at the side of your cot is Lucent, shaking your side with her hoof.

"Hey," Lucent whispers. "Wake up, ya goof."

You groan as you rise from your bed and stretch out a bit before you get a good look at your surroundings. You're not on the dais anymore. You're in what looks more like an infirmary. There's a few doctors here and there as well as a few injured ponies, but the place seems rather empty aside from that.

Lucent bats her eyelashes at you and gives you a jokingly seductive, "Morning handsome."
