You have a Marshalltown trowel (sharpened), a spade, a brush, a tiny ball peen hammer, a pick, a bundle of writing utensils (one pencil, two charcoal, one crayon), a stack of blank papers and one ship itinerary, and your room key.

Saffron has a small book, her room key, and a dog biscuit.

Her injury seems to be doing much better, the blood already clotting around your makeshift scarf-bandage. You touch your nose to hers to find it warm and wet, with her breathing slow and steady. It looks like she'll be okay.
>>
>>2411271

Let's explore. Anywhere forward is better than sitting still. Are those torches? Let's dry and style up our mane and invite Saffron to do the same while we talk. Wet dog can't be a good smell for her.

What's keeping the torches lit? Do they show any signs of having been changed recently or handled, or are they the dusty, old, endlessly burning sort? Can we salvage one for our explorations?

We dig up and sift through dead bodies for a living. Everything about what we love to do is a testament to the passing of time and eventual decay of the world. Sometimes the people we study ended violently, other times they waited out eternity watching over some dead guy's wooden cup. It's bound to happen to us someday, but surely we've dealt with enough death in our lives that we've come to terms with the fact before. The sense of the macabre and the element of danger are just parts of our destiny, and we can only cry for so long!

Dry our tears and check out those torches.

Elaborating a little, we're an archeologist. We were on a boat with two coworkers headed to the site of some old diamond dog ruins. Since we came aboard, we've started having nightmares like you saw upthread. About a day's travel by boat out from our destination there's a huge noise, and stone spires start jutting out from the ocean impaling our boat. Our pony coworker escapes on a lifeboat, we go back to get Saffron, our diamond dog coworker who got knocked out. The ship goes down, us with it. Our room remains waterproof for a while, we see a giant diamond dog skull with light spilling from it's mouth outside, eventually the window cracks and we use our scuba spell to bring ourselves and Saffron to where we are now. Also, you really should read the backlog later, it's only two sessions, I think.

wait do we just need to rotate the two slabs or do we have to line up the little nibs just right, cause that'll take a bit more doing

The piece linking the large circle to the bottom one doesn't seem to line up properly. For that matter, the piece linking the top circle to the snake on the outside doesn't line up properly either. Using the upper circle, we can exchange move and exchange the pieces as necessary.

Okay so I numbered the notches, we need to line them up a bit better, probably exchange a couple of them between the two disks.
>>
>>2414823
Put them back as they were to begin with, so we can work off the first picture with this guy's numbers.
>>2414870
>>
>>2414823
1. Rotate the top disc once anti-clockwise, moving the needed edge piece onto the wheel.

2. Rotate the large wheel 2 notches clockwise

3. Move the top disc one notch clockwise, returning it to its original position.
>>
>>2414870
So we know that the piece at 5 is where it needs to be. Which numbers do we need to move to positions 3 and 9?
>>
>>2414870
I think 1 or 9'd work for connecting the big disc to the lower small disc.
>>
man rotating pieces are hard to visualize
>>
>>2414870
By moving the small disk, we can "store" one of the tiles in order to switch it with another. Using this method, we should switch tile number 3 with... some other one that will line up better. I'm thinking number 2, since that one seems to line up rather well with the bottom disk when rotated. Also it looks a little like number 8 may work better for connecting the upper section to the top disk
>>
>>2414870
Which pieces do you think work the best, then we can work on the rotations for there
>>
I've been screwing around with this in Gimp for almost an hour now and I can't figure it out.

Good luck you guys.

Assuming 10 successfully connects to the upper snake, and 1'll connect us to the lower disc:

large: 1c -puts 1 onto the smaller disc so I can reposition it's position on the larger
small: 1cc -moves 1 off larger disc so I can reposition the larger disc to match up with it and puts 10 on the larger disc so I can change it's position on the smaller disc
large: 2c -puts bottom of large disc's snake up against smaller disc
small: 1c -puts 1 back on the larger disc, this time connected to the bottom of larger disc's snake
large: 1cc -move 1 off of smaller disc so it doesn't get shuffled around
small: 1c -puts top of small disc's snake up against large disc
large: 1cc -puts 10 back on small disc up against top of small disc's snake
small: 2c -puts small disc's snake in position
large: 4c-puts large disc's snake in position

You inspect the room carefully, and there are no tripwires or anything similar. You grab one of the torches on the east wall and douse it with a bit of magic. You're sure that you can generate enough heat in a small location to light it again if need be.

There is a dark open doorway to the north, and an open doorway to the west that leads to another lit room. Inspecting the circular design on the floor, it looks to be simply a round flat stone as part of the floor.

You and Saffron inspect some of the markings on the wall. They are entirely foreign to you, and you cannot recognize any of them at all.

Let's go investigate the third room.
>>
>>2418119
Not so fast kiddo, let's see what's on the paper first.
Maybe, just maybe we won't share a similar fate with the poor feller if we read his notes.

As the two of you take some time to rest, you decide to eat a bit. Saffron has one of the pieces of dried meat, while you end up eating two small hay bundles. You ask Saffron if she know anything about ancient diamond dogs having sacrificial customs. She shakes her head.

"Ancient griffons did, though. Remnant told me all about that... eugh."

You use your magic to hold the paper out in front of you as you read.
>>
>>2418139
Well, Im sure that will come in handy at some point.
And that one symbol in the top left looks familiar.
>>
>>2418139
That reminded me of the scribbles I did when I played Neverhood. Huh.

Show her the paper, maybe she can make some sense out of it.
I'm sure this will come hoovy later.
>>
>>2418139
Well the bit on the lower right is clearly the "map" that we noted down, and he seems to have been as confused by the double symbol beside the door to the sacrificial chamber as I was.
Hopefully this'll make more sense when we find those other pieces it references, because I have no idea.

"This is just the same stuff that we copied down, except for the gear..."

"The blood. It's... not his. But it's another pony."
>>
>>2418279
Oh no...
no no no, I don't want more corpses!
We are going to die here!
We need to get out...
What do you say, shall we check the room to the west?
Maybe it will let us know what the gear is for.
Maybe we can escape a horrible fate that way.
>>
>>2418279
Let's go check the room to the east.
>>

I can't believe he actually managed to pull of the spectogram one.
Fucking genius.
>>
>>2420501
Anyone knows if that's a valid language?
Or maybe an imaginary one like Tolkien's elf language?
Will someone check it?
>>
>>2420554
I think that may be pushing it. But at this point I wouldn't be surprised in the least.
>>
>>2420563
I don't know. I don't know if I WANT to know.
Has anyone asked the tumblr anything?
I don't want to do THAT either, FUCK.
>>
>>2420589
>>2420563
Should we ask /x/?
If anyone, they will know.

>>2420618
Did Lovecraft follow through with that language?
>>
>>2420662
