You enter the room to the east. It is just as you left it: torch on the wall, circle stone on the floor, desolate and silent.
Should we try and find eight torches before taking on the golem ?
Basic map
>>4843335 (OP)Annotated map, [SAFETYTORCH] edition
>>4843430i think it's worth a shot
>>4843430Let's go for it. It's time for action.Even if that action is to keep delaying the golem fight.
>>4843484Let's take the torch outside this room's door, and one of the torches by the skull door before we head down a floor, then.Wonder if a torch is 2 inventory slots or one? With Saffron's huge gap in her inventory, wouldn't hurt to have her carry around a couple of spares for dark areas anyway when we're done with this.
>>4843528>Wonder if a torch is 2 inventory slots or one? Both you and Chronicle can safely and easily levitate a few torches without much exertion, they are light.
>>4843560>they are light<Fuck...>
>>4843528Grab one of the torches from Gaston's room too, on the way through.
Chronicle and Saffron look to you for direction, and you think for a moment. You look up with a spark in your eye and mention how there were eight torch holders in the room downstairs, more than any other room and arranged in an octagon like many other things in the temple. You suggest gathering torches to place in those spots. They both nod enthusiastically and ask you which ones to start grabbing.
>>4843846The ones in this room, for a start.I don't think it really matters which ones, just grab all that we see on the way down there.
>>4843846fucking Christ we are cutewe shouldn't take so many that we leave a room darkwe can take enough from this floor and the one below without removing all of them from a single room
>>4843951Let's try to leave one or two per room so they're not left completely dark.
>>4843951>>4844003>>4844031Afraid of the dark? Not on my watch! TO ADVENTURE!
I think we may have messed up by having Renne take the collar/bridge/thingummy.The picture we found the piece embedded in was of the two gauntlets, the collar and a pair of wings.Saffron's two gauntlets are putting out tendrils; I think they're trying to connect to the missing piece that's supposed to be bridging the two of them; perhaps the power from the two gauntlets plus the bridge is needed to sprout the wings?Question is what'll happen if the two manage to gauntlets connect without the collar acting as a conduit.
>>4843478I hadn't noticed you actually marked the torches. Thanks for that!>>4843846Let's not take any of the torches in the lower levels, they are not many down there. There's plenty on the sixth floor, we can take about 4 or maybe 5 of them without leaving the rooms completely unlit.
>>4844003>>4844031You walk to the west and grab two of the four torches in the room, leaving the two by the skull door.
>>4844179>collar/bridge/thingummy>bridge is not a literal bridge but a bridge between gauntletsfuck...also there is one more piece of armor jeez!the wings are armorfour of metal, remember?
>>4844179>>4844254we fucked up
>>4844254>bridge is not a literal bridge but a bridge between gauntletsd'oh
>>4844278>>4844254Or, y'know, saved Saffron from becoming a mindless, heartless golem. Worth the risk, I think.
>>4844254The chestplate's the fourth piece. The wings aren't a part of the four of metal.
>>4844318shhhhhhhiiit
Some anon in the general told me we were questing tomorrow... I almost didn't even get on tonight, what a jerk
>>4844318Unless they're attatched to the chestplate, but if that's the case, then why were they there in the bridge image, when the chestplate wasn't?
>>4844357does that mean we're going to get wings then?FUCK YEAH ELDER GOD WINGS
I was trying to think of a way to get at that mouth without the power of flight.Only idea I had that didn't end with someone trapped over on the platform was for Saffron to cut another length of chain from somewhere, Renne to levitate it out over the lava and hold it there, and for Saffron to use it do an Indiana Jones swing out over the lava.
>>4844441Last time we tried to interact with the platform is was just out of range... And it would seem Renne's magic has been enhanced at least somewhat... Perhaps it is now in range.
You head downstairs and take one torch from the doorway, bringing your total to three torches and your trusty torch.
>>4844492Last time we tried was after we had equipped the bridge/gem, so it SHOULD have still been buffed when we tried it then. Perhaps it took the threat the corpsetack gave to get it going though; I suppose both Saffron's equippings have been immediately followed by combat. Couldn't hurt to try again, at any rate.
>>4844496...Huh. Didn't notice those torches'd dissapeared. Disregard this room's torches on the map then, I guess.Go in and grab one of the torches from Gaston's room, should be two in there unless I missed it dissapearing as well.
>>4844496<My fault entirely. In the reusing of rooms it seems as if I ditched two of the torches in this room! Sorry guys.>Whoa man, look at those torches! Four plus your trusty torch.
>>4844726Don't forget the one by the stairs!I'm sure they must have gotten blown out at some point, and we didn't notice them in the dark.
>>4844791After a wholly embarrassing bout of forgetfulness, you grab the put-out torch in the previous room and head east. You give two of this room's torches to Chronicle, bringing your total to seven, plus your trusty torch.
>>4844357See also this image that popped up while Renne was talking to Dr Pepper.DP's said that the gloves aren't his, and the other image we've seen of him didn't have him wearing them, either. I think this picture might just have been him telling us that we should have combined it with the gauntlets.By that whole >Drills into your spine thing it sounds like that bridge isn't coming off Renne any time soon, so too late now I guess.
>>4845046we have eight then but i don't want to give up Torchyhe's been the most reliable member of the party so far
>>4845046We should go down a floor and grab one more.
>>4845046Go south and grab the other torch from the ocean entrance room's pillar.
>>4845046>>4845139>Blood trail heads off that wayOh boy, time for something new and horrifying.
>>4845160That's just from the abomination-thing. It tried to go out that way before heading to the chain room. The blood trail going in there from the west is from chance dragging the parts.I think
>>4845126>tfw Torchy is the only one that makes it out
>>4845128Why go down stairs? The entrance has like four torches... i don't think we grabbed any of those.Head back up and grab the last torch we need.
>>4845232Slipped my mind, actually.
>>4845232just twobut we only need one
>>4845275It also had two on the other side of the door.
>>4845232Entrance only had 2, and one of those was Torchy. Still, one more'll be enough to do us and we shouldn't need to head back that way anyway, so let's grab the other.>>4845275>duplicate image
>>4845288Where're you getting that from? Can't see any images where we saw the other side of that doorway, they're all in the same perspective as >>4845046Was it in some of the quest text somewhere?
>>4845107Don't know for sure, but I wonder if DP's got the blue armour set on.After all, unless those that Baldwin genocided were a race of flying dogs, he had to get those wings from somewhere.
<cutscene>You stand at the doorway, the entrance to the temple. You look out into the cave, and can hear the splashing of water against the steps that your crawled up not too long ago. Each and every one of you has arrived here this way, and you all look out at the water with a pang of fear and loss.
>>4845407Also, when asked what he was, he said "I used to be a diamond dog". Either he's transformed so he no longer is just a diamond dog, or he's just plain dead.
<end cutscene>It seems as if something else has done the same. You feel a tingly in your head, at the base of your horn. It is not invasive, like the others. It almost feels as if you can reach out and grab it.
>>4846090Focus on it.
>>4846090>>4846141Tell the others about it, then focus on it.
>>4846090Try to grab it
Tumblr updated.
>>4846203If we're going to "grab" it, try to be as gentle about it. (however that works in this weird spiritual/metaphorical sense)
>>4846225I've got a bad feeling about this.Whose corpse is this, now?
>>4846090Yo dawg, check behind us!
>>4846254I had assumed we'd be communicating with the released corpstack, since their blood lead here and this was the closest they'd gotten to freedom.Oh no, now you've got me worried. We know that Chronicle's lifeboat was taken out...Goddamnit Remant, you'd better be OK.
>>4846254Who could it be... Remnant? I thought he was safe.
Dead?
>>4846544Waiting anon, these things take time.
>>4846141>>4846175>>4846203>>4846288You tell Saffron and Chronicle about the feeling that you have, but you say that it's different this time and you want to try to approach it. Saffron looks at you with a frown and then nods."Be safe, Renne. Please."Chronicle turns and keeps watch on the doorway as you concentrate. You focus on the tingling sensation, try to grab it with your telekinesis. You can feel yourself holding it, and you treat it gently. The tingling sensation envelops you, and you can feel the radiant heat of the torches disappear.
>>4846584Magically examine whatever we are holding.
>>4846584 The suspense is killing me...
>>4846584Rennenunwittinglygivesalichahandjob.jpg
>>4846584>you can feel the radiant heat of the torches disappearWishful thinking, but maybe we can somehow use this to shield renne from the heat of that one door... you know if this all isn't just in her head.
Your voice catches in your throat for a moment. You aren't sure what to do.
>>4846921See if they're willing to talk. And then we should apologize for... that whole throwing them in a pit of lava thing.
>>4846921Ask Saffron or Chronicler what they're seeing.
>>4846921"Hello."
>>4846584somebody look for secrets hidden in this gif
>>4847007I had a quick look already. Nothing obvious, though there's 37 frames to the bloody thing.
>>4846979You look around to ask Saffron or Chronicle if they're seeing what you are seeing right now, but you are alone.
>>4847170beacon...
>>4847204Huh, neat.
>>4847170Try to make contact
>>4847170>>4847170Greet the four... say hello or something.
>>4847170Tell them hello.
You speak, try to greet them. You try to say sorry about before, sorry that you couldn't help. Your voice echoes in the void, and the sound waves seems to pass through them causing their figures to flicker and waver. They give no response, and their wispy forms settle.
>>4847418Move to the left or right side to try and get a better look at them.
>>4847438You slowly move around to their side. Any slight movement from you causes their forms to shift and waver before reforming. You dare not speak or move lest they dissipate entirely. They are all intently staring at the water. You wait patiently. You hear a raspy, foreign female voice. She stutters, as if she is not sure what word to use, or if she even has the ability to speak anymore."H... Home?"The griffon scowls, and you can almost see the lacerations open with the scrunching of his face. The pegasus continues to stare and responds, flatly."No."
>>4847572Let's look toward what they're looking at
>>4847572Keep watching a listening.
>>4847604>>4847603Remember what the tumblr said, I think spending too much time in this "realm" might be bad for the living.>>4846225
>>4847620Good point.
>>4847572is this...a memory?
>>4847664i think it might bethis is really sad...
>>4847572This is just too damn sad. And I can't even think of what to do to help them.>>4847664I was wondering the same myself. Perhaps it's their internal dialogue just after they left the spire room. It'd certainly fit with the lack of ineractability.
>>4847664It looks like a memory of their spirits at the time they were in this room. You can see the lacerations from Chance's butcher work.I think we should depart quickly.
>>4847603>>4847604You look out at what they're all staring at, and only see the slow rolling of the waves against the steps. You back away slowly, when the unicorn turns and looks at the doorway, eyes wide."L- Light..."They all turn, movements very jerky and unnatural. The pegasus squints and opens his mouth, his raspy voice falling out."Light..."With surprising speed, their ethereal forms blend together in a mist and rush towards you. You instinctively cover your face with your hoof.
>>4847810Let go of the magic!
They pass through the doorway and are gone.
>>4847829snap back to realitythis quest is giving me horrible survivor guilt
>>4847829>They pass through the doorwayso it was a memory?they were after us from before and this is where they were last before they went downstairs?i'm cry, i feel so bad for these guys
Take a moment for the fallen... When we get out, we're going to have to do a lot of living for all the dead in here.
>>4847918>>4846225>tfw he warned uswhy do we never listen
>>4847943because we're stupid
>>4847943Hey, we don't need to take guff from this guy, it was a new experience and we might have learned something new.Now let's get those torches set up.
>>4847820>>4847865You release the feeling, and you are standing where you started. Saffron has her paw draped around you."Welcome back, Renne. Are you okay?"You nod, although you are a bit shaken. You call to Chronicle to grab the remaining torch from the doorway and head to the torch room.
You reach the room with your mass of eight torches. Saffron takes a step back, the collective heat becoming rather uncomfortable."So we just put them where they're supposed to go then? I can carry two."
>>4848167She should keep a grip on her sword, just in case. We can put them in place with Chronicle.
>>4848201I agree.
>>4848201and make sure to stay away from the center of the room
>>4848201She should also be standing by one of the torchs to pull it out of its slot in case something bad happens.
Maybe make sure the last torch to go in is one of the ones beside the exit, if we're going full workplace safety mode.
>>4848329I wonder what OSHA would say about this place.
>>4848329we don't even have to be inside the room then
>>4848368Good point. Replace all but the one nearest the door, then trot everyone out and use our magic to put the last one into place.
>>4848402I'm going to facepalm so hard if we go to all this bother and the end result is "You lit up the room! Congradulations!"
>>4848402>>4848368>>4848201You tell Saffron that you would rather she keep ahold of her sword. You and Chronicle go about placing the torches into the slots, intending to save the last one for when you are outside of the room entirely.
>>4848499Keep her away from the spikes.
>>4848522Both Saffron and Chronicle retreat from the center of the room and stand at the doorway, next to the empty torch holder, as you place the second-to-last torch on the far end of the room.
>>4848581Let's get out of the room and magically put the last one into place.
>>4848581RUN out of the roomwhat are those lines on the walls?
>>4848631Those are the metal strips that go up the walls from every torch holder.
>>4848631They're the reason we're doing this, silly.>You decide to give the room one more look before moving on. You walk around the edge of the room with the torch, noticing a bronze band across the base of the wall. Whenever you happen upon a torch holder, there is a thin line of bronze inlaid in the wall. You count the torch holders in the room this time, eight in total.>You give the ceiling a quick check as well, and you find that the bronze strips lead up to connect to an octagon on the ceiling, its lines made of strips of bronze.
>>4848622You trot out of the room with everyone and use your telekinesis to place the last torch into its holder. You wait, but nothing happens.
>>4848835Wait some more. I see those bronze channels lighting up there.
>>4848835Look up at the ceiling of the room.
>>4848835Keep waiting. Tell the others to stay out of the room.
>>4848870Let's not.
>>4848861>>4848835If we can crouch down to see the progress of the lines/the central octagon without getting too close to the room, do that.Oh god this is such a terrible idea.
>>4848870>>4848871>>4848886You tell the others to stay back, and you crouch near the doorway, but still outside of the torch room. You glance up at the ceiling, and you can see the glow of the bronze strips progressing upwards and to the octagon.
>>4849005Keep waiting and watching. Tell the others what we can see.
>>4849080>octagon almost completeget away from the door
>>4849110But aren't you...Curious?
>>4849110Yes, step back enough and warn the others to do the same. We don't want to be caught by the door if it comes crashing down.
>>4849124as wary of him as i am, Dr Pepper's advice is sounding real good right about now
Yes let's back away from the door.
>>4849145We are doing a lot to mitigate the risk. If we weren't curious we wouldn't have left the starting area.
>>4849159Not to mention we wouldn't have discovered how to talk with him in the first place without curiosity.Curiosity's bloody well nescessary here; it's unbounded curiousity that's dangerous. So long as we keep it in check and don't do anything stupid, like unnescessarily activating an ancient ritual that we have no idea the purpose of just because we can, we should be just fine.
>>4849005>You back away from the door>An enormous humming fills the room>The room grows dark>The torches blow out from an ill wind unseen and unfelt upon your skin>The roof opens up>Light suddenly burns at your eyes>The room fills withhttp://dl.dropbox.com/u/31207848/Saffron%20and%20Ren.swf
You hurriedly back away from the door and tell everyone to do the same. As you stand back, you wait impatiently. As you are trying to explain what was going on, about the bronze strips heating up and glowing, you hear a loud clunk and grinding noise. It's coming from up above the torch room. With a loud, long lurch of moving metal, it settles with one more loud clunking noise.
>>4849349Oh shit. Chance is still dead, and probably even more crushed now
>>4849349head to the next floor uplet's see if anything changed
>>4849335Hahaha.Those tendrils are looking pretty bad.
>>4849349Should we head back to the eastern room on the seventh floor ?
>>4849360Wait a few more seconds. If nothing happens peak through the doorway without sticking our head through it.
I think we should just look and see what happened.
>>4849382I like your almonds, boy. Let's go in and see what's different! It's high time somepony risked their avocados for a chance at freedom!
>>4849365>>4849368Let's see what this floor is looking like first.
>>4849378>>4849382>>4849496You wait until you're sure... whatever that was has stopped. You crouch down and crawl towards the doorway again, trying to get a look at the ceiling. The bronze strips of the octagon seem to have descended roughly a foot or so from the ceiling, but nothing else seems to have happened here.
>>4849544Well, let's go upstairs then.
>>4849544Go upstairs to the room above it. Take the other torch from the entrance area to light our way.
>>4849568>implying i would give up Torchy
>>4849568We took that back up here>>4848066>You call to Chronicle to grab the remaining torch from the doorway and head to the torch room. We've still got Torchy.
>Torchyquest incoming
You go upstairs, trusty torch in tow, and look around. Nothing... really seems to be different.
>>4849655Go right, see if a door has mysteriously appeared in the 7 wall, so we can go to the rooom that's actually above the deathspike room.If not, I'm stumped.
>>4849655Look into the room on the right.
>>4849674Actually, you know what? What the hell do we need a door for? If they're not going to give us one, we'll make our own.Knock around on the wall until we find the hollow part, then have Saffron bust on through.
>>4849655I agree. Charge the other room. No half flanking! I think the torches in it looked rather crossly at us.
>>4849674>>4849675Nothing has changed in the eastern room, either.
>>4849740>>4849724
>>4849740Have Saffron push the circle on the floor with her sword. Can we wrap this up soon?
>>4849724You know what, this is a great idea. The room we're in right now is above the room OUTSIDE the spire room. Something happened to the north of us. Something in the direction of that conspicuous looking wall...
>>4849758<Almost, yes. I was planning on it. For reals. No huge cutscenes.>
>>4849740Something probably happened in the room behind the skull door. Nothing left but the golem then.
>>4849764Don't forget that the spires rose out of the ocean and looked similar to the spikes in that room.
>>4849740have Saffron yell "Oh yeah!" when she punches through the wall
>>4849724I don't think I need to say any words of agreement. Words cannot express how proud I am at this very moment. If I hadn't had my tear ducts replaced with knuckle absorbing stones, I might even weep.
<okay maybe one cutscene>You tell Saffron you have a favor to ask of her.
>>4849845The look of glee on Saffron's face tells me we have chosen wisely.

Also, quick announcement. My cat has gotten really sick and I'm taking him to the vet first thing in the morning. I don't know what this means for the rest of the day. If the quest is off for Thursday, I'll let you guys know. Sorry. Also also, if archive anon is here, mind capping this session as-is, in case I can't do Thursday?

We've spent about 20% of the quest sessions putting it off now.
>>4850480But... But that puzzle had to have done SOMETHING.Argh.

>>4850480I know where you're at, Anon. I've been there too. Many people have flown my standard and used my name over the past few weeks in the name of madness and wild ideas. That's what Oklahoma Crux is here for. For all your bad ideas, for all the blame. Fight golems. Kill diamond dogs. Strangle some child's goldfish. Choke on steak because your tiny weak pony stomach and throat can't digest or consume it, but your heart is the heart of a steak eating lion horse. Live with risks while wearing my name, and die punching down walls and golems. We can do it!
>>4850507Where's that? Do you mean the skull door, or something else?
>>4850525yesthe skull door and the eighth floor
>>4850447There will be one more tomorrow?
>>4851491That was the plan, but cats care not for plans of mice or men.I assume we're planning to try to keep this thread alive until tommorrow, or until LK lets us know that he won't be able to run it, whichever comes first.
>>4851626Cat can do that because they're the master race :3
>>4849953>>4849845Oh, wow those are fucking adorable.

>>4862150>>4862222>>4862323You sigh while staring into the mass of gears behind the wall. You know what has to be done next, as much as you would like to avoid it. You ask Saffron to hold up her sword, intent on seeing if your power has been enhanced by the armor and the stone.
You focus and attempt to lift the sword. It comes out of Saffron's hand, with a little more effort than trying to hold a torch, you would guess.
>>4862701Oh! Oh! Do Chronicle next!

>>4863718I like Renne with the sword and Saffron with her fists.

>>4863220>>4863672You ask Chronicle if he would be able to perform another shroud spell for everyone. He closes his eyes and concentrates."Maybe for one of you. Maybe. But not both. Even then, I am not certain of how long I would be able to keep ahold of you."

>>4864086So Renne will distractSaffron goes in for the meleeWhat is Chronicle gonna do if we don't want to waste his shroud?
>>4864324He'll cower in a cor-... I mean keep look out
Ah good, I'm not late. Here's what I was thinking we might be able to do1.Chronicle levitates something over the golem's eyes to blind it and stop it from pulling us into another Baldwinchat. Either some of Renne's paper, or maybe using the sheet we brought Saffron down here in as a blindfold.2. Renne does her best to hold it's arms in place so it can't swing or punch blindly and clobber someone3, Saffron leaps up onto it's back and tears it's freaking head off, since we know that that kills it for sure.
>>4864371Either way we should go get that sheet before we head into battle; we're low on materials for bandages and even if we do come out without a scrape, a big sheet's almost as useful as a towel.
>>4864608where did we leave it? out by the front of the temple?>captcha: Vegeta fitsit wants us to go super saiyan
Another thought, We know that Bind spell... Maybe we could look a bit more into that magic and trap the golem.
>>4864665>Bind spellWait what. I don't remember this. I thought we were just applying our basic TK to try to hold him in place. Only spells I knew we had were Invisibility on Chronicle, Scuba on both Renne and Chronicle, and potentially Spirit Shenanigans on Renne.
>>4864658Yeah, I think we left it on the ground when we started messing around with the snake disc, and never picked it up again.
>>4864723Where we got the second arm saffron has on. It was bound the the alter with some kind of spell, I'm sure we could figure it out if we worked at it a little.Hold on let me go find the thing.
You pitch a few ideas to them, some of which include giving you the sword while Saffron uses her Mighty Fists. Saffron seems excited about the idea. You ask Chronicle if he thinks that he would be able to perform another shroud spell if he attempts one now."No. I do not think I would be able to do it for anyone but myself if I try it one more time. Though whatever you would have me do, I am happy to do it."
>>4864767Ooh, right, Anchor Steadfast. Good point.I'm still not sure whether or not that was actually a spell, or whether the glove had just ground it's fingers into the stone, requiring a hand/power buff inside it to pull the fingers back out.
>>4864812i think the one that put it there is the one that has to take it out, i.e. the armorthat one picture showed a diamond dog with wings and no armsi think he cast it and tore his own arm off...
>>4864812It was almost certainly a spell, but we don't know what activates it or how it works exactly. We do have another jasper stone, though. We could experiment with an object in our inventory. Based on how it worked before, I don't think trying it out will consume the gem.
>>4864812Still worth checking out, it could come in handle and possible lead to us learning a few other similar spells.Awhile ago I came up with the idea that who ever had the arms before saffron ripped their own arms off. One with their arm and the other with that Anchor spell.
>>4864791>That tailwagSaffron really seems to like being super strong. Enjoy it while you can saffron ;_;
>>4864791let's go get the blanket
>>4865088Sounds good, After that do we want to mess around with some magic or stopping messing around and go fight the golems
>>4865106Can we recreate the "Anchor Steadfast" octagon we saw on the lower floor?Use whatever we have that will work as an engraving tool or just use a piece of paper and a writing utensil. This can come after getting the blanket or whatever.
>>4865088You mention the curtain from the cruise ship, that you had used to drag Saffron to the temple, being left out at the entrance. You think it could be used to blindfold the golem, or at least for bandages (Celestia hope you don't need them). You all travel to the entrance, and pick up the curtain and fold it, placing it in the ample amount of space in Saffron's bag.
>>4865129We should go down and test the spell on one of the busted bits of golem. If it works great, if not we'll go off and hopefully kick some ass.
>>4865333Let's try not to accidentally trap the gem under something, though.
>>4865341I'm a little worried that the spell has a 'cost' Everything down here seems to some sort of blood magic. We could always ask DP if its safe or if renne can even do it.
>>4865341gem?
>>4865415Red jasper stone marble thingummy. The thing we're trying to imitate had an octagon with "Anchor Steadfast" written in it, a redstone marble on top, and a gauntlet with it's fingers ground into the stone on top of that.
>>4865447ohi thought that the magic here was just fueled on runes and blood instead of the stone
Maybe if we can trick a golem into stepping on it it will get stuck and fall over.
Try not to fuck up and get saffron killed or something guys. Also Don't dick around to long lets get the golems out of the way. Good luck
>>4865333do we have to go all the way to the busted golem to try it?let's just use paper
>>4865617It can be done anywhere; should be easy enough for saffron to scratch it into the ground, if Chance could.I think the idea's to be able to test it out with an actual golem, to make sure it'll work. I wouldn't mind seeing how well Renne can lift a golem, either.
>>4865658so to the busted golem?
Why are we trying to control the golems?Wasn't one of the requirements sacrificing part of your soul or something? There was a picture that was translated.
>>4865715We're not trying to control them, merely keep them stuck in place.
>>4865715i think we are just trying to see if we can lift oneand to try out some diamond dog blood magic
>>4865715Not trying to control golems, just to trap them in place for easy thumping.
>>4865736Blood magic always has a price, anon.
You ask them all for one more favor, one more thing to sate your curiosity. You ask to travel down to the broken golem, to see if you will be able to lift or restrain it with your telekinesis. They agree, and you all make your way down. As you reach the gear abyss, the air gets cold, and you feel the non-invasive tingle at the base of your horn once more.
>>4865903oh fuckdo we try and grab it again?
>>4865903Aww man. Do we think we might learn anything from seeing Chance's inner thoughts?
>>4865903Go for it, but not too long.
>>4865938I've got the feeling that it would either be a really good idea or really bad idea to do that.
>>4866004Let's ask Dr. Pepper and take his advice on this one.
>>4866044I kind of already did.
>>4866065Righto then, let Saffron and Chronicle know that we're feeling something like what happened over at the ocean entrance, and that we're going to try listening to it again.Ask them to keep an eye out, and toss us over their shoulder if something comes on through while we're still AFK.
You halt, and calmly tell them that you feel the tingling you felt by the entrance of the temple once more, and that you wish to investigate if only for a moment. You ask them to keep watch. Chronicle says nothing, but nods. Saffron coughs and looks at you worriedly."Be safe. Don't be too long. I'll look after you."
Saffron has coughed twice nowShe's not doing too well, is she? ;_;
>>4866433Dammit, we started a time bomb when we put those arms on her.And now there's a piece on us too. This is legitimately frightening.
>>4866457Could we have Renne ask if Saffron is feeling alright?
>>4866433thinking back i think she coughed a lot more than twice... ;_;
You clear your mind and focus. You try once more to grasp the feeling with your telekinesis. You feel the chill of the air pass over your body with the tingle, stronger than it was before by the entrance.[audio01]
The feeling takes over you in a rush, and you see Chance's body form in front of you. He's perched on the stone opening before the abyss. His body is torn and bleeding, being held together by some unknown force. Unlike the four before, he notices you. Intently, staring.
This is pretty spooky and all, but is anyone thinking we might be able to use this in the room with the goat corpse?I hope there are no hard feelings, Chance.
>>4866981Maybe back off a bitBe ready to drop the connection
>>4867051i don't think it would helpcan goats even talk in the show?
>>4866981"Uh...hi."
>>4867051I hadn't thought that at all, but it's a brilliant idea.Assuming he doesn't have his own agenda, anything we want to ask him? We could ask about his guide, about what exactly the conduit is, if he wants us to say anything to Chronicle, and that's all I can think of.>>4867116Well we couldn't talk to the corpstack either. I'd be hoping for some sort of vision that might give us a clue as to who killed him, or what purpose it served.
>>4867090>>4867123You back away, ready to let go of the sensation at a moment's notice. You cautiously greet him. He opens his jaws, and a you can hear the wind wheeze and escape from his lacerated throat before it reaches his mouth. Yet it is still a deep, commanding rumble, but backed a sickening gurgling noise."Brighter.""Than I remember."
>>4867264Ask him who he was working for.
>>4867264i don't like this
>>4867264Oh hey, it's this guy again.

>>4867732>>4867933You are far enough away that he cannot swipe you without leaping, but he does not seem to move. He stands perched. You ask him what you are worthy to do. He responds in a deep, low rumble."Take my place."
You see him drag his claw across his throat and it opens up. You can hear his breath wheeze through the gaping hole. He simply stares at you over his muzzle.

Looks like Chance might be a "beacon" too, or at least a dinky flashlight. Perhaps that's got something to do with why Renne is suitable for whatever it is the mad chorus want.>>4846921The corpsestack was dull, presumeably lit by Renne's own light>>4868213Chance, however, has his own, faint, glow.

Guys, we have golems to fightSpires to turnWhat are we doing talking to a dead insane dog?
>>4868514Testing our powers on a busted golem first.
>>4868514Gaining information. Now we know more about the situation we're in and the powers that are trying to manipulate us, and I'm sure even OKLAHOMA CRUX, THE SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE! would respect that knowing is half the battle.
>>4868523So then we will bid this ruffian goodbye! Let's tell him if he wants to talk he can sew himself up first and come out of that hidey hole of his! ONWARD! WE'VE GOLEMS TO FIGHT!
Let's ask him if he still remembers Chronicle, and if there's anything he wants us to tell him. What's the point of being a medium if you don't help people make their peace? Then yeah, let's head off.
>>4868575You continue to keep your distance. You ask him if he remembers Chronicle, and ask him if there is anything you can do to help him make peace."Yes. The only sacrifice I couldn't commit. And then you got in the way..."He scoffs, with a spurt of blood and a wheeze."Peace? There is none. Do not think that I am through with you."
>>4868699What was he trying to accomplish ?
We shouldn't linger too much longer. We don't have all the time in the world.
>>4868699Then I'm sorry that I tried to avoid having to kill you. Goodbye.
>>4868699tell him that you will be waiting for him to pull himself out of that holelet's get rid of this guy already
You let go of the feeling and return to where you once stood. You shake your head a bit and turn to Saffron. You tell her that you're fine, and not to worry. She makes a face at you and coughs.
>>4868925Right, I say we go and kick the golem's arses right now. Saffron's rapidly heading downhill, and we need to talk to DP and figure out what exactly the armour's doing, and what to do about it.The Anchor Steadfast wasn't likely to be of much help in the actual fight anyway, and we can go check on the goat later; it's not like he's going anywhere.
>>4869000I'm cautiously optimistic about our chances. Whatever we gave up for putting on this armor, it seems to have given us some considerable strength in return.Failure, of course, means dire consequences in this case.Still, it needs to be done.
so what is the battle plan again?Chronicle uses the cloth to cover its eyesRenne distracts with the swordSaffron goes in for the kill?
>>4869064I think so
You apologize about leading them down here, but say that you're worried about Saffron and want to get the armor off as soon as possible and the only thing in the way are the golems. You make your way back up to the first spire floor. You can hear the thudding steps of the golem, two rooms east.
You make your way into the next room. Your heart is beating wildly, and you can hear the golem's patrolling even louder than ever before. He does not seem to be aware of you, despite being just one room over, and continues his patrol.
>>4869350alright kids let's do thisgive the sword to Renne and wait until he's at the far endthen give him hell
>>4869390I see you there, looking into that room apprehensively. What's on the other side of it? Is it the end of your story? Is it the beginning of the end? What awaits you if you turn around and walk away?Gentle spirits, this is your time. You are the horse who walks with one hoof in the grave and three hooves in life. Do you want to live forever? Is that what you want?Because there is a secret I will share with you: Lich, Elder God, or Celestia; All these things fear death. They fear one another, and they fear death. There is no immortality save for the immortality of a song and a tale. A tale of a brave horse who walked through a door and tackled a big fucking monster to save herself and everyone she cared for.Gentle souls, do you want to live forever? LIVE FOREVER WITH YOUR GUTS. RIP AND TEAR.
>>4869436
>>4869436man that was way too flowerylet's just go smash some shit and get the hell out of here!
You boldly step out on to the platform, and the golem immediately turns his head to look at you. He readies his sword and starts his slow lumber towards you.
>>4869513Distract the golem so that Chronicler is able to hit it with the sheet.
>>4869539You clang your sword onto the stone a few times to make sure he follows you. He gets within striking range and raises his sword.

From nowhere, a flurry of cloth surrounds the golem's head. You take the moment to back up, but keep your sword ready.

>>4869633HELL YES. GORE HIM WITH OUR HORN. Or, more appropriately, stick to the plan and start wailing on him with our sword now!

The golem stands as still as a statue for a few moments. It then springs its left arm to the side, a loud thud and yelp being heard. You can see Chronicle's shroud spell flicker off, and his body slide against the floor.

I assume he's bought in to whatever it is the spirits guiding him are wanting done, it would have been great if we could have wormed that out of him somehow. Also I totally didn't get that that claw across the throat was supposed to be a threat until he outright said he was going to fight us; it kind of loses some of the threat when you're harming yourself instead of your opponent. Could be simple enough that he's not strong enough to do a damn thing to us on the spiritual level.>>4871164>They only wanted to be left aloneAnd they built a huge navy-destroying weapon powered by blood in order to keep that solitude. I'm not sure I fully trust them to be poor, unfairly persecuted souls just yet.
>>4872102but he was just perched there the whole time like he was waiting for something
>>4872245Just waiting for the respawn timer to count down.I was going to post that as a joke, but for all I know it could actually be the case; it certainly seemed like it took a while between the corpstack being compiled and it actually animating: when we first spoke to it it was clearly only talking to us mentally and there wasn't any movement visible in the room beyond some blood spreading further, so I assume it was still "dead" then.
>>4872317i really hope you're wrong about thatalso>437we've been really chatty this session
