Previously on Celestia Quest:
>You chat with Celestia and Rose about blunted wingblades, then you discover Celestia had your blanket and hid it from you on the trip. You introduce Rose to the Elements, giving Pinkie a chance to be herself with a new friend. Rose doesn't take it exactly well, but nothing bad comes of it. After getting soaked by Celestia, you hang up your clothes to dry and go to sleep.

There's a sweet chirping in the air; sharp and rhythmic. Around you are trees, most many times your size, though you spot a few younger ones as well. Stretched in front and behind you is a path through the wood, though you're not sure where it leads. The air is thick with the scent of wet leaves, like just following a rain, but the ground is dry.

You soon get bored with standing still and walk down the path. It twists and turns over hills and through gorges. After what you guess to be a mile or so, you come across a field where the path ends at a pair of benches facing each other. Luna occupies one, though at the moment she's looking the opposite direction.

Awww yiss finally on tome for one of these
Sit on the bench and look in the direction she's looking and ask her what she's looking at
>>
>>12492243 (OP)
Mention that her stars are so much more vivid than our stars, and in greater number.
>>
>>12492243 (OP)
Have a seat and talk to her for a moment.

The Anon last session who was suggesting paragraph:sentence:character capalisation was right, I just kept messing it up by ignoring spaces and accidentally counting newline characters and similar nonsense.
http://pastebin.com/Rg3XYEbh

I'm a little disturbed that he knows what's going on in such detail.
I'd assumed he knew about us from when we first dropped in and fought with Celestia against her ambush party, identified us as a valuable ally (perhaps because of the whole guardian thing) and was sending us messages to try to get us on his side, but that shows he's actually got some way of spying on us, somehow.

It also sounds an awful lot like a response to our conversation with Silver, strangely.

No-one's had any ideas as to what we might be able to do with the 16-character code we're slowly assembling with that x/4 at the end, have they?
>>
>>12492476
Very nice
>>
>>12492411
Not that Anon, but leave out the part about our stars and number, when she mentions its day, tell her we didn't mean those stars.
>>
>>12492582
It's a joke anyway.

Walking over, you take a seat on the bench opposite her and follow her gaze. There's nothing out there you can see but a field of tall grass. The chirping you heard earlier is coming from the forest.

"What are you looking at?"

"The details. I've found the most significant pieces of dreams lie there. For example, the forest you were just in. The presence of one means nothing, but I would imagine the species of that bird is significant." She turns to you. "I don't recognize that call. What species is it?"

You cup your hand next to your ear, trying to make it out. After listening to a few more calls, you shrug. "Dunno. Never really paid attention to that stuff."

"Interesting." She adjusts herself to face you. "Are you at peace here? Do you enjoy nature?"

"It's nice, I guess. Never had strong feelings one way or the other."

"You never think about it?"

"Never is a bit strong of a word. Just... not at the top of my list of priorities." You scan the area, expecting to see the camp or some trace of it. Now that you think about it, it's very odd for a forest to be in the middle of the Badlands. "Were is everyone?"

"Did you not notice? You're in a dream."
>>
>>12492732
I had assumed as much.
>>
>>12492732
It's rare I have a lucid dream.
>>
>>12492732
"Ooh! A dream?! Does that mean I can fly?!"
Try leaping up into the air and see if you float.
>>
>>12492732
I was thinking it might have been, but this is the first time I've had someone else in a dream point it out.
>>
>>12492732
Perhaps this is reality, and what we perceive to be reality is just the dream? Or perhaps we are all just dreams, figments of imagination of some other entity. Our entire lives nothing but brief moments in the mind of one who is asleep. How would you know if you are the dream, or the dreamer? What becomes of dreams, when the dreamer awake?

"Ooh! A dream?! Does that mean I can fly?!"

You stand up on the bench, then leap as high as you can. You get a solid foot before crashing back to earth. Groaning, you look back up at Luna, who now studies you with soft eyes.

"Are you unhurt?"

"Just my pride. Ugh." You climb back onto the bench, sighing when your back hits the back of it. "I guess it makes sense I'm in a dream. Pretty rare it's so lucid, though." You raise an eyebrow at her. "And I've never had someone point that out to me, either."

"Dreams are not so simple. You believe there is still gravity, so there is. I could prehaps teach you dreamwielding later, if you so wish, but I am here for another reason. And I am pointing it out because we need to speak candidly, something much more difficult if you are not aware of your dream state."

"Dreamwielding? Sounds kinda cool." Leaning over, you work a krink out of your back. "So, Princess Luna, what can I do for you?"

"I wish to talk about my sister."

"Doesn't everyone? Why take it to dreams if you can just speak with me while I'm awake?"

"Because I am wanting to talk on your, hmmm, relationship with her."

>>12492982

>>12493092
My... relationship with her?

Was it really? I think I saw that movie once back when it came out. Didn't much care for it nor bothered with the sequels. I was just going for a cheap attempt at poor man's philosophy or something.

"I'm all ears." Turn into all ears and panic.
>>
>>12493223
Oh God pls this, it'll be hillarious
>>
>>12493126
>>12493137

"...Come again? Relationship?" You swallow and pull at your collar.

"Yes. Relationship is the best word to describe it, I believe."

Best word? What is she getting at? "Alright. I'm listening."

"I do not approve."

Fantastic. "Well, uh, your objection is noted. If I could just know what exactly it is you don't approve of...?"

"I have a feeling you know exactly of what I speak. You two are growing too close for a connection that is to be temporary."

"Temporary?" You lean forward on your elbow, narrowing your eyes. "Who says it's temporary?"

"The Guardian. I also assumed you would be returning to your world."

Your eyes widen. "You know about the Guardian?"

Her stare deadpans. "Of course I know of the Guardian. She has a tendency to work through dreams, and such work rarely goes by unnoticed by myself. I refrained from mentioning it as I wished to leave the release of that information up to you. Might I add: you've taken no steps to follow her instruction. This does not exactly strengthen my faith in you."

Sheesh. She is not exactly going easy on you, is she?

>>12493223
>>12493317
You don't have the ability to control your dream that well.
>>
>>12493600
Have a look around, Luna, I don't know how to get home.
I told Celestia about the dream and mentioned that it may be best to keep it to ourselves because of the risk that if others knew I'd be cast out.
If you have any suggestions, I'd be grateful.
>>
>>12493600
Well, unless you got the means to send me back, going home isn't an option.

Don't won't to metagame and don't wanna dig through archives, but do we know of her time as NMM and her imprisonment in the moon?
>>
>>12493699
I'm quite certain we don't know about NMM, but there was something dropped about her returning from banishment being the thing that sent the advisor packing. Give me a second, I'll dig it up.
>>
>>12493699
No, but we do have a suspicion that something significant happened between Celestia and her some time ago.
>>
>>12493699
Not at all.
>>
>>12493739
>>12493699
>"Their leader is a former advisor of mine, one who left when my sister returned. We did not always agree, but he was oft a wise voice at my side. As of late, I listened to him less and less, and when I decided to bring my sister back, he could not handle our differences any further. He quit and left, though I wished him the best on his travels." She frowns. "This is not how I envisioned he would spend his time and knowledge."
>>
>>12493739
>>12493743
Ok, just needed to make sure before wording my next part.

"And I don't know about you, but the idea of spending my life in complete isolation doesn't exactly appeal to me, so the best I can do is just keep walking forward, and see where my path takes me."
>>
>>12493600
"Well, the worldshards were what brought me here in the first place. I guess I figured that gathering them would be the key to sending me back...and we only have one right now."
>>
I'm still leery of this "Guardian."
>>
>>12493829
I would be too, it's certainly Luna's doing. Nothing has gotten anymore difficult since then and it's unlikely she(the actual guardian) works through dreams.
>>
>>12493687

"You may have not the means for now, but are you positive there are no options at all? The Guardian suggested something, did she not?"

>>12493796
>>12493799
"Well, the worldshards were what brought me here in the first place. I guess I figured that gathering them would be the key to sending me back...and we only have one right now." You cross your arms. "And the Guardian's grand proposal was for me to change my energy to something she could control--a feat I've no idea how to accomplish. I don't know about you, but the idea of spending my life in complete isolation doesn't exactly appeal to me, so the best I can do is just keep walking forward, and see where my path takes me."

Luna stomps on the bench. "Your spending your life in complete isolation is not a mere convenience for you, it is of monumental importance! If you continue on this path, not only will the Guardian turn against you, but you will begin to unravel the Balance she held for so long! That would ruin Equestria! I respect and understand your position, but there are other things at risk!"

"Then help me find a way to fix this! I don't want to ruin this place any more than you do."
>>
>>12494154
"I am doing the best I can. Tomorrow we resume our search for the worldshards in earnest, as they will undoubtedly lie with our enemy."

She sighs, frowning as she turns back to the field. "I fear my sister is too lax with you, but I do not wish to be the strict one. I trust her judgement, but it can be difficult to tell when it is clouded or not. Please understand: I worry for my very country. It is the same reason why I lectured you before, but I don't want you to think of me as an enemy. However," she says, stepping off the bench, "do not think I will hesitate to take every step necessary to defend my subjects."
>>
>>12494163
That's fine then, are we done here?
>>
>>12494163
I don't want you to think of me as an enemy, either.
>>
I think we need more information about what the "balance" means, exactly, and what makes it so crucial.
>>
>>12494313
It certainly doesn't make sense why it's such an issue.
>>
>>12494163
"Fair enough. But understand I have no intention of throwing myself on the sword for this "balance" that is so vaguely mentioned until I see no other choice. I don't want to sound unsympathetic, but I'm not just gonna roll over and die for some questionable concept like Balance. Unless you tell me 'imbalance' is gonna cause your world to explode or something, I'm gonna fight this to the end. Till I find a way home, or die trying if that's what it takes.

"I'm afraid you will need to ask the Guardian herself about the nature of the Balance. She never explained it to myself or my sister."

>>12494218
"Look... I don't want you to think of me as an enemy, either."

She nods, but curtly, as if forced.

>>12494197
"Are we done here, then?"

Her face darkens into a grimace. "You have not stated your plans with my sister. I accept you have no simple means of returning, and I have agreed to help you aquire such means. However, that does not excuse you to play with my sister's feelings however you wish."

"Play with her--" You jerk back, twisting your mouth in revulsion. "You think I'm just playing with her? Don't you think that's be a tad defensive? I care for her too, Luna. Maybe I'm not her sister, maybe I haven't known her for however long you two have been together, but I would never play with her feelings."

[cont]
>>
>>12494780
"That is exactly--" She cuts herself off, turning to the sky. Her hooves take a few uneasy steps back. You look up as well, your breath catching in your throat when you see the sky.

It's turning black.

Not black as if it were midnight without the moon, but pure black. A void of color, a darkness that consumes everything it touches.

"Luna... you can stop that, now."

"It isn't me! Someone is taking your dream away from me, someone much more powerful than I!" She runs toward me, but her body moves in slow motion, never getting closer. The earth begins to crack and fall away.

"Wake up! Please, you must wake yourself up!"

"I don't know how!"

Her mouth opens again to speak, but there is a thundering crack behind you, sending a shockwave through the dreamworld that blasts it all away, leaving nothing but the hollow darkness. Your skin begins to tingle, warmth spreading on every inch of exposed skin. Warmth turns to heat, a heat that intensifies to the point of searing. Slowly, you turn around.

In front of you is a mare, well-built, and slightly shorter than Luna, though still taller and much more intimidating than most other mares you've seen. Her mane and tail are white fire, casting the dark away, angry flames that lick and tear at the air. They are almost as intense as her glare.

"You were warned."

Yeah, I really distrust this thing now.

"If you wanna kill me fine, get to it. Just stop acting all mysterious and shit. You're making me feel like I'm in some two-bit fantasy fanfic or something. So unless you're going to tell me what this "Balance" people keep talking about, of which no one has any fucking clue what it is I might add, or tell me you can get me home, just keep your cakehole shut and let's throwdown!"
>>
>>12494975
You really want to enter a coma, eh?
>>
Reposting, since it's an important point at the moment.
>"I have no idea what you're talking about. What is the Balance?"
>"The Balance is what ensures life may continue. It prevents any one power from consuming the world that the Creator's children may live as they wish. Too much Chaos, and creatures of Harmony die. Too much Harmony, and creatures of Chaos die. They both must be allowed to live. I cannot give them that chance while you are here."

Also, previous encounter with the guardian was in session 13.

I like playing hyper aggressive in these things, even to my own detriment. Got me into so much shit back when I was in school and had friends to play things like DnD with.
>>
>>12494797
"You showed the rebels where we were, didn't you?"
>>
>>12495142
"You showed the rebels where we were, didn't you?"

"I would not meddle in such minor things. They found you on their own."

>>12494975
You throw your hands up into the air in a pang of defeat.

"I do not kill. I maintain. I do not know why you seem to have such a sudden interest in death all of a sudden, but I suggest you not act on it. Your chances of departing this world are much better while you live." It's creepy how she speaks; not angry, but not emotionless, either. It's like she's lecturing the dirt beneath her hooves.

"So tell me about the damn Balance already!"

"Why should such a thing concern you?"

You curl your hands into fists, shaking with fear and anger at the same time. What the fuck kind of game is she playing? "Because you are demanding I live according to your Balance! You demand I leave for it, and I like it here!"

"If you like it here, you should want to leave. You would be preserving it."

"But WHY?!" you practically scream at her.

[cont]
>>
>>12495524
"Because somehow, you are not chaotic or harmonic. Somehow, you are independent of such forces, and prevent me from balancing them. I thought I told you this already."

"But why do you have to balance them? Why can't they just... be?"

"Because eventually, one would win. They fight each other by nature, but the total victory of one would mean the destruction of both."

"How do you know that?"

"Because that is how the Creator and made it."

"That's a pretty stupid way of making things, if you ask me."

"It would be, if there was not some assurance they would not destroy each other."

So that's why she exists. Because the Creator made this world with two unstable forces and needed a way to keep them from causing their own destruction. "But why make both? Why couldn't he have just made one without the other?"

"I was not the one to forge them myself, but as I understand, it was impossible to create without opposing forces. Much like you cannot make green without blue and yellow. Harmony is one color; Chaos, the other. Only by mixing the two can life exist."

And now you're the one to pay for it. "Whatever. Fine. Fuck it. Just leave me alone."

To your surprise, she does, turning around and walking into the void. "Let us hope, for your sake, the next time we meet, you will be on your way out."

"Keep your threats to yourself," you yell at her back.

With a flash of light, she's gone.
