You and Braeburn are pinned to the floor of the wooden platform at the center of town square, a former gallows with only a trapdoor suspended about twenty feet off the ground. Chief Red Eye has his dogs holding you and the ponies down while he cows the populace of Dodge Junction with his army of flying machines and attack wands. In a bold move, you wait til Red Eye has his back turned to you to kick off the dog holding you down. In one swift motion, you move to shoot your wrist-masher at the one holding Braeburn and then charge Red Eye in the hope of disarming him.Roll 6 dice for use of Arms.

Passable. You cross your gun arm across your chest, wishing it was a handheld instead of wrist-mounted, but you work it well enough to pop off a hard shot to knock the dog off of Braeburn. Without pausing, you continue charging forward and hope to get the upper hand on Red Eye.The tall, black dog with the burning red eye spins around at the sound of your gun shot, barely able to counter your charge and stand his ground. He blocks your body, threatening to bowl you over, but doesn't keep you from getting close enough to frisk his undercoat for his wand. Your hand settles on something long, cold and smooth, and you sense the buzz of magic coming off of it.Red Eye doesn't see you making your move on his armament, but he's a lot bigger than most humans and just about ready to throw you off the platform. What's your call?

>>13550027>>13550078>>13550085>>13550130You hope the same trick works twice and prepare to rack Red Eye straight in his dog nards. Your fingers tighten around the pistol grip of the lacquered wand inside his coat and—Intense, bone-searing pain shoots up through your arm, like your hand is on fire and being electrocuted. Before you can even scream, you're thrown back by a forceful blast of energy, unable to keep a grip on the wand. You tumble backwards over the edge of the platform, but miraculously hold on to the rail by your arms.Red Eye reaches into his coat and coolly draws the wand you attempted to pilfer. It's a sleek black and red thing of unusual length and girth, polished like obsidian. Unlike the other wands, this isn't made of wood, in fact it looks more like something else you can't quite place. Before he can draw down on you, Braeburn rushes in from the side and body-checks him, throwing his full weight into his withers and shoving him clear off the platform while everyone is still recovering from the earlier flash of magic.(cont)

>>13550550Splinters of wood shower the area as Red Eye is thrown straight through the railing, black wand gripped tightly in his paw. Another flash of energy issues forth from it, coating the black dog in a red glow; it seems to "catch" him midair, letting him dangle from the wand while Braeburn goes careening over the edge himself. You see the gold stallion's legs flail helplessly as he slides right over the wood slats and out of sight, followed by a loud thud some twenty feet below.Red Eye starts laughing, loud enough for all of the town to hear. "You know what? I'm impressed with you, human. Maybe I ought to give this town a proper chance to defend itself, see what you soft, law-abiding folk are made of. You all get ONE DAY, 'cause tomorrow... you'll see there weren't no other way for this to end.""I'll be taking these three as... guests." The Chief is now full on levitating, able to whip the wand about and lift the three hostages up in his magic. "Let's ride!"At his signal, the Diamond Dogs start to disperse, flying machines taking off in a roar of humming crystals. The ones on the ground make for their parked vehicles, scampering away into the streets and lifting off before any townies can mount a proper retaliation. You climb back up onto the platform and watch the echelons of fliers form up and fly into the sunset. The citizens of Dodge Junction mill about and panic, arguments and shouting breaking out as folks try to figure out what to do. All you know is the town's short a mayor, a sheriff, and a madame, and plus one ultimatum. Braeburn's status: unclear.Where to from here, caballera?
>>13550741CHECK OUR DEPUTY
>>13550741Make sure Braeburn's okay.
>>13550806>>13550852Just walking makes your hand hurt, like your entire arm's been split open. Even so, your first thought is to make your way down the stairs from the gallows and find Braeburn. You find other ponies gathering around to help, or trying to, what with Ducats the gunsmith trying to clear them out."Y'all give him some room, let him breathe! Don't move him, mighta broke somethin'.""Told ya I'm fine, m—ooough." Braeburn's got a busted foreleg from the fall, it seems, same side as your arm that's hurting. He's struggling to stay steady on just three legs. "Hey there, Deputy. You look a mite better than I am right now—nnnngh.""Sup, Cherry Girl. Don't mind me, just making gangway for your boy here. Soon as I saw the two of you swoopin' in like big damn heroes on that platform I thought I should move in an' try to help. Can't do much without my tools, though." Ducats gives you a nice big grin, despite everything.
>>13551026"Thanks, Cats. Think you could fetch the doc? We're looking a bit worse for wear here."
>>13551026we need to get patched upand try to figure out our next movethis town just lost its leadership structure
>>13551026How's Braeburn's rig looking? It was a pretty nice ace in the hole but I'm worried about him after the fall.
>>13553026 (Cross-thread) we should talk to our cheif to plan out how to fortify the town and mount arms, we should also contact ponyville if we can get extra support>bbquest pt 5 404ed, what did we do at that time?

>>13551143>>13551228"Thanks, Cats. I just need to see the doc.""Oh gosh, are you hurt? That was a mighty big blast up there." Braeburn hobbles over to you to get a closer look, literally nosing in on your business since he doesn't have a free hoof.>>13551289You can see that the guards disarmed his saddlegun, but the fall's bent it out of shape something fierce. Lucky you have a tinker nearby..."What are we going to do? They just flew off with the Mayor, the Sheriff, AND Miss Jubilee! That's, like, every important pony in town." Cats just sort of absentmindedly says this, though she's probably right. With no real leaders among them, the town square has devolved into a mob, dispersing to their homes, arguing amongst themselves, and some panicking or fainting.

>>13551505Braeburn keeps poking you, but looking down at your arm you see that it's actually not very badly injured, if at all. It still hurts to even move or turn, like it'd been run under a wagon wheel."Someone's gotta take charge." You nod to Cats and turn around to climb back up the gallows."Hey, let me help you up." Braeburn, ever the gentleman awkwardly waddles over to assist you up the steep steps... not that you need it, really, and given that he's only got three good legs...Of course, by the time the two of you get to the top, Cats has beaten you there courtesy of her wings.Prepare to make your speech. Nonetheless, it seems the bakeries can be fired up tonight to get pies, potatoes, and more readied for tomorrow's clash.>reinforcing the townA lot of property got trashed when the thugs rolled in, so right now folks are worried about where to hide the children and other defenseless bystanders. One pony suggests boarding up town hall.>sending for helpTwo issues here: turns out the train station was ransacked during the attack, so no post will be going out. Folks aren't keen on traveling out into the wilderness unprotected; most seem keen on staying to fight, anyway. Dodge Junction is two days' flight from the next town, anyways.>>13552189"Cats, if we can find that flier I crashed, maybe you could fix it?""Sound plan. I'll go grab my tools." Cats flies off over the rooftops...."Well, ain't you the genuine article?" You turn to find Braeburn smiling at you, hat crooked. >>13552685let's go for it
>>13552432>>13552463>>13552737Okay."Thanks, Brae." You straighten out Braeburn's hat. "I'll tell you what takes cojones, though: putting on a fake badge and tripping across the frontier impersonating an officer of the law.""Well, there's more to it than that—""And you still had the gumption to stand up to him after he took your badge away. That's what makes a real hero." Your arm hurts like hell, but it's nothing compared to the cheesiness of that line. Cheesy, but true. You offer him your good arm to get back down the stairs. "You can tell me the whole story later. Stick with me, we've got a town to patrol.""Right, right..."Braeburn insists on walking on his own once you're both off the platform, and you jokingly slap his hindquarters, with a playful "Hyah!" He jumps a little and blushes."Pardner, I ain't gonna run 'fore I can walk.""Oh, we're partners now, is that it? I don't know if I can deputize you as acting sheriff.""Maybe I'll deputize my own darn self.""Yeah, we saw how well that worked..."(cont)
>>13552990Sun's setting, and you've made a new friend, forged in one frenetic topsy-turvy day.At the infirmary, the doctor sits you down in your own stall with the curtains drawn while he goes to set Braeburn's leg.
