A story about a group of heroes who solve problems and save lives through reckless violence.

535343

>>532968
>>532967
Indy nods.
"Where do we start?"

>>532966
>>532964
You arrive at the golden oak library.
The librarian sits at the desk, writing papers.

>>532975
You…see a light in the distance.

Pico
Still at the church, but the nuns agreed you may leave if you promise not to get into dangerous situations for a couple of days.
You cannot fly until further notice.

Shortcake
That was a good meal.
But what is all this ruckus in the middle of town?

535348

>>535343
I look outside.
"Oh dear. Is there a monster attacking us?"

535349

>>535343
"Um…"

535352

>>535343
"Good day, ma'am. Excuse us for for disturbing the peace, but we require aid with an important matter. Might you have any books covering local legends?"

535353

>>535343
Right, first things first.
To the Librarian.
"Pardon me, but you wouldn't happen to have any books on old legends and such?"

535355

>>535349
You remember LH mentioned his home.

>>535348
Miss cake looks up.
"Oh dear, perhaps we should take a look."
She gets up.
"If there's really a monster, we would need help from your friends."

>>535352
>>535353
"Fifth shelf on the first floor. Unless you mean religious ones, then it's on the second floor, third shelf."

535356

>>535343
>>535349
"C'mon where's his place?"

535357

>>535343
>>535353
I look at Warren.
"Snack heard you have plan to help bring back Melody according to Star."

535358

>>535343
Let's go after the others to the library.

535359

>>535355
I nod then sneak outside to have a look around.
[1d10]

Roll #1 7 = 7

535360

>>535355
"Thank you."

535362

>>535355
Oh right!

>>535356
"His home! We should look for it!"

Roll #1 6 = 6

535363

>>535355
"There's one legend in particular I'm looking for. The one about Spoiled Blight."
>>535357
I'll nod.
"Preparations need to be made, of course. But we'll see how crazy of a plan it really is soon enough."

535365

>>535362
"Well duh! But I ain't been there ever!"

535366

>>535363
"Preparations? What are needed to prepare? If we dont hurry it may get too late for Melody pony to go back."

535368

>>535366
"We'll need a map of the Everfree, which I think Soil ran off to get. As well as a few other things. Mostly information, which is why I came to the library."

535371

>>535365
"We can ask around! Ask the guards!"

535372

>>535371
"But… We are going there to rob him…"

535374

>>535372
"No we're not! We're investigating, Silver and I are paladins remember!"

535375

>>535368
"How can Snack help in the library? Perhaps he can look for books."

535378

>>535343
The light's bad. The light's fucked.
I stay where I am and try to listen for the sounds of that damn mare.
'1d10'

Roll #1 7 = 7

535379

>>535375
"That would help. Two pairs of eyes tend to find things a single pair doesn't. But let's see if the book I'm looking for is even in this library.

535381

>>535359
You sneak through the crowd, you see a giant crater. On the bottom lies the remains of a charred big pony. The guards are investigating it.
You see Mabel, LH and Warren leave towards the library.
You see Amber and Soil walking in another direction.
Near the partially demolished arena club you see Star crying and clutching on to the body of a pony….Melody!

>>535356
>>535362
You ask the guards.
You find his shack at the edge of town, the door is locked.

>>535363
>>535360
"You should look under religious then. G for Grogar." she mutters without looking up.

>>535358
You're in the library.

>>535378
It's eerily quiet.
You do hear the faint sounds of drums in the distance.

535382

>>535379
I nod at this and follow

535386

>>535381
I'll check the first floor first, fifth shelf. Look for books that may have something to do with local necromancers, the undead, the afterlife and so on.

Roll #1 5 = 5

535387

>>535381
'Thank you, miss."
>>535382
Off to the Religious legends section, then. Searching for G.
'1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

535388

>>535381
Drums…
Are those the spirits that Mwa always talked about? They might know something…
Or they might just be an ass to me like they were to him. W/e I'm gonna go ask them anyways. Closest thing to a lead I have here.
I try to head over to where I hear the drums coming from.
'1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

535391

>>535381
I rush over to Star and grab Melody.
"Melody! What happened, are you okay!?"

535393

>>535387
Alright lets help Warren in his search.
'1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

535394

>>535381
I scrunch.
"I'll use my special lockpick!"
Smash the door of its hinges with my hammer!

Roll #1 3 = 3

535396

>>535343
"I don't think my body could handle even a mild situation as I am. T Hanks for your concern."

Give a courteous bow and head out to our hotel, maybe the others are there.

535406

>>535391
As you get closer, you realize she's covered in blood. And that she's not moving.
If you'd get real close you'd see that the right part of her face has been severely burned.
Star looks up, sniffling. "S-shortcake..I'm..I'm so s-s-s-sorry…"

>>535386
You find a book on necromancy in general.
"Beware the Dark Arts."

>>535387
>>535393
You find a book called "Grogar: a biography"

>>535388
You look over a large clearing filled with dark wooden huts. One large hut sits in the middle.
Before it burns a large fire. Many zebras in masks dance and sing around it, moving wild bordering on frenzy. You see many zebras sitting quietly around it, looking at the spectacle.
You have not been seen yet.

>>535394
It's not a hard lock.
You're in.
The shack is small with the only real features a large king-size bed with a mirror on the ceiling. Papers are strewn everywhere. The safe seems to have been broken into.

>>535396
You come across a large crowd, in the middle is Star and Shortcake. Star holds the lifeless body of Melody in her hooves.

535410

>>535406
"G…rro…gar, a bio.. graphy?" I look at Warren.

535411

>>535406
"Indy, you're up!"
Gently bump him off my back.
Gemmosmell!

Roll #1 7 = 7

535412

>>535406
"What? No. Nonono."
I grab Stars and shake her.
"Don't just sit there! Get her to a healer, hurry!"

535413

>>535406
Now… the plan is to somehow find a way to enter the underworld, not summon something out of it.
See if I can find any chapters detailing the underworld itself.

Roll #1 8 = 8

535415

>>535406
>>535410
I'll shrug.
"Let's see what's inside."
Find a table, and crack the book open to the table of contents. Look for any chapter that might be dealing with Blight.

535419

>>535406
>>535412
"Melody!" Rush over to them. "What happened to her?!"

535425

>>535406
Shit, this is uh.
…Okay I got nothing. Whatever.
I step out and clear my throat.
"Hey!"

535427

>>535419
I try to bite back tears.
"I don't know! Stupid Star's just holding Melody instead of finding a healer!"

535431

>>535406
Let's find a book on the Everfree.

535433

>>535406
>>535411
"Go Indy! find those gems!"

535434

>>535427
"Bring her with me, we'll take her to the church! They'll do what they can there and we'll get her somewhere safe!"

535457

>>535427
>>535412
>>535419
Star stammers
"I..I…Amber tried…and tried and tried…b-but it didn't h-help…and t-then the fire happened…and the m-monster…"

>>535433
>>535411
Indy jumps down and starts sniffing over the floor like a dog.
He suddenly stops and looks up.
"There's something in the ceiling, I smell it."

>>535431
Roll.

>>535415
>>535410
The chapter details the same story you read in the inscription, in more detail. The author speculates about Spoiled Blights earlier history and family, referencing obscure passages in other religious scriptures. The passage on the Everfree is far more precise.
It says that in the heart of the everfree is a place called Ram's Fissure. The ground there is blighted and tainted and the trees are blood red. The author speculates this was caused by Grogars trip to the surface.

>>535413
The chapter mentions a number of areas
>Port Charon
>Wraithbloom Forest
>The Precipice
>the river Myr
>Tartarus
>Grogars palace
>the Ice Fields
>the eternal Plains

>>535425
A few zebras near you look up and trot towards you.
"Ssshhh, pony may not disturb ritual, pony may watch if pony does so quietly."

535459

>>535457

Roll #1 5 = 5

535460

>>535457
Port Charon… What's that?

Roll #1 6 = 6

535462

>>535457
Hmm. Is there an index? Something about the "First Word?"
'1d10'

Roll #1 2 = 2

535463

>>535434
>>535457
"NO! Nonononono!"
I break down and grab Melody's body, then start to rock back and forth while holding it close.

535464

>>535457
Look up.

Roll #1 3 = 3

535466

>>535457
The ceiling?
Look up?
"I can't reach the ceiling! We'll need to stack things up!"

Roll #1 10 = 10

535468

>>535466
"Climb on me."

535471

>>535457
>>535463
"Not here, not now! Come with me back to the church! Let the nuns tend to her and they can call a healer!"

I'll try to get the crowd to part so we can move.

535473

>>535457
"Hey, look, I just need to find someone. Seen a mare around here? Uh… name's Villinia, she's sort of… pampered? Bit prissy?"

535474

>>535471
>>535457
I try to pick her up with my TK a few times before giving up and setting her over my back. After that, still sobbing, I follow Queren.

535482

>>535457
>>535462
I look at Warren.
"Do Warren pony think that this legend might be true?"

535484

>>535482
"There's a strong chance of it."

535486

>>535462
>>535482
It doesn't mention anything more than the inscription itself.

>>535459
You find a map of the everfree.
Damn the everfree is huge.
And some parts are just marked with "Here there be spiders" or "here there be horrors"

>>535460
The book describes it as a small harbor near the Myr. It is where the souls of the dead wait for the Boatsdog to ferry them across the Myr to Grogars palace.

>>535463
>>535474
>>535471
The crowd parts as Shortcake carries Melody's body with her.
Star stays behind.
"I-I'm sorry…"

>>535473
"Pony must wait until ceremony is over. Or pony must leave. No more words."
The drumbeat picks up pace.

>>535464
>>535466
>>535468
You climb on top of each other. Amber finds a loose plank and in the rafters you see a black chest.
Just looking at it makes Ambers heresy sense tingle like crazy.

535487

>>535486
Chat it up from down here.
"So, what's up there?"

535488

>>535486
>>535484
"There might be more books around here about this Grogar fellow. If not perhaps there is something else…"

535489

>>535486
I ignore her and follow Queren.

535491

>>535486
Hmmm…
Nothing too useful for this particular issue, but interesting nonetheless. What is the Myr?

Roll #1 3 = 3

535494

>>535486
Get into the church, I have to focus on Melody and Shortcake for now.

"WE NEED HELP!"

535495

>>535486
>>535488
"Maybe. Let's keep looking."
Let's keep checking the religion section for Grogarian texts, and anything pertaining to the First Word. '1d10'

Roll #1 5 = 5

535496

>>535486
Hmmm…
Can I trace my steps from last time to where the camp of the weird pony was?

Roll #1 9 = 9

535497

>>535486
I guess I'll wait then.
Hum de dum.

535503

>>535486
>>535487
Take the chest.
"A chest! It's making me twitch!"

Roll #1 8 = 8

535504

>>535503
"Maybe it has fleas."
Help her down.

535519

>>535495
I nod at this and began to help.
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

535526

>>535487
>>535503
>>535504
Together you bring the chest down and put it on the desk.
It is not locked.
Indy growls at it.

>>535489
>>535494
You bring the body to the church.
The nuns immediately put her on a table but their faces are grim.
"I'm sorry, travelers, but there is nothing we can do…her soul has already departed."

>>535497
The drumbeats increase and 5 zebras step forward ans sit before the fire.
As the masked zebras start singing, the eyes of the 5 zebras light up and they stare at the ceiling, their mouths open without making a sound.

>>535496
Yes, you notice the camp was not far from a place called Warlocks Haven.

>>535495
>>535519
Despite your best efforts, you don't find any more references to the first word.

>>535491
The book describes the Myr as a river flowing through the Underworld seperating the Precipice from Grogars Palace, Tartarus and the Eternal Plains.

535527

>>535526
I shrug.
I've seen more impressive.

535528

>>535526
Mark it somehow, then roll up the map and take it.

535529

>>535526
Look at Shortcake.

"I'm sorry…"

"I know she meant a lot to you."

535530

>>535526
>>535529
"But…but she can't…"
I break down again.

535531

>>535526
Nuts.
"Guess that's all we're finding here."
Make a mental note of the Ram's Fissure.
"Snacks, where's Star?"

535536

>>535530
I'll signal the nuns over. They can comfort her better than I can.

I'll head back out for Star. I can't leave her out there.

535538

>>535526
"What's it, pal?"
Open it.

535543

>>535526
>>535538
Be ready for anything!

Roll #1 5 = 5

535549

>>535526
Hmmm… this won't help.
Put the book away. Time to rejoin my friends.

535550

>>535531
"She is with the others… " I frown.
"I dont want to leave her all alone now that I think about it, should we go back and tell what we find out?"

535552

>>535550
"That might be best, until we all meet back up together."

535555

>>535552
I nod, lets go and find Star and the others.

535563

>>535528
You could find out more about Warlocks Haven in another book perhaps.

>>535527
The zebras stay such a way for some time.
Until they collapse and and a few other zebras take them away to a hut.
The music stops.
One of the masked ponies turns to you.
"Pony. What does pony seek here? Pony was not called by Duke Brahgola."

>>535543
>>535538
Inside is a green orb.
The inside shimmers and flickers with all kind of colors and shapes, changing constantly.
Amber: You were trained about this. It is a Chaos Emerald. Beacons of chaotic power, given by Draconequi to trusted servants. They are used to block the powers of other divinities, allowing chaotic forces to do their work undisturbed by outside forces. This must be what's causing the strange oppressive energy you felt while meditating. Destroying it would be wise. Or you could risk your soul to triangulate the position of whoever gave it to Skull.

>>535530
>>535536
"Our condolences…was there a particular deity she worshipped?"

>>535531
>>535549
>>535550
>>535528
Where to next?

535564

>>535563
"I died. And now I'm here looking for a friend. We're going back to living."

535565

>>535563
Poke the gem.
"So what's special about this little thing?"

535566

>>535526
Improvise shoot Dolly then '2d10'.
HP Lovepone should get a substitute up. She'll need it. '1d10'

Roll #1 10, 8 = 18 / Roll #2 8 = 8

535567

>>535563
I shake my head and keep crying.

535571

>>535563
Go and find Star.

535572

>>535563
I need to find Star and bring her to the Church.

535573

>>535563
Let's try and find out what's up with that place.

Roll #1 2 = 2

535574

>>535563
To Star, I guess.

535577

>>535563
Woops.

Yeah, ignore that post. That's for a later time. An even less happy time.

>>535574
"Uncover anything, sugar?"

535579

>>535577
"Nothing we didn't already know. Though apparently the place where Spoiled Blight met Grogar was called the Ram's Fissure. It's what turned all the trees red, and so on. Nothing on the First Word."

535581

>>535563
>>535565
"No! Anarchy! This needs to be destroyed!"

535582

>>535581
"WHOA!"
Rear back, and bring out the shield! Protect on Amber!

535583

>>535579
I nod.
"I'm afraid I did not find much of use either. Interesting subject, however."

535589

>>535565
>>535581
As you look into the gem…
Guess Amber stopped you from going looney.

>>535574
>>535572
>>535571
You don't find her where you left her.
Look who you're meeting!

>>535567
The nuns put a white blanket over her body. And start muttering a prayer to the Sisters.

>>535573
All you find is that it was once a fortress of Celestia and Luna, but when Canterlot was recovered during the Grand Crusade against Discord, it was abandoned.
In time it became a haven for warlocks and dark practitioners of magic until the Inquisition amassed on force to drive them out.
It remains a dark place until this day.

>>535564
"Pony seeks friend. But if pony seeks in this place, pony cannot find friend. Now without guide."

535591

>>535589
Can I pull myself together?
[1d10]

Roll #1 10 = 10

535593

>>535589
"I found her before, but- some- I don't fucking know what, but some shit happened and then I lost her."
I frown.
"Can any of you guide me?"

535594

>>535589
>>535572
"What happened to Star?"

535597

>>535589
That sounds just wonderous…

Let's meet up with the others.

535598

>>535589
"So…"
Look at Amber and Silver.
"What do?"

535599

>>535591
>>535589
I dry my tears, kiss Mel's forehead through the sheet, and go looking for the Grogar priest.

535602

>>535594
"She was right here, holding Melody's body. I thought she was behind me when I took Shortcake with me to the Church. Help me find her, I don't want to lose anyone else today!"

535603

>>535589
Smash it! Now!

Roll #1 2 + 3 = 5

535605

>>535602
"Right."
I'll take to the air, and start looking for a not-so-shiny crystal mare.
'1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

535607

>>535605
>>535589
Yell out into the crowd.

"Star, where are you! Star!"

535608

>>535605
I think I will follow [1d10]

Roll #1 3 = 3

535611

>>535607
'1d10'

Roll #1 6 = 6

535627

>>535603
>>535598
With a good swing of your hammer you smash it into pieces.
You both and Silver, the furniture, the papers all fall…to the ceiling. You look up and see the…floor up there.

>>535597
Everybody seems to be splitting up all the time.
Who do you want to follow.

>>535611
>>535608
>>535607
>>535605
You don't see any sign of Star anywhere.

>>535599
Be strong Shortcake.
Melody needs you.
The nuns assure they will take care of the body for now.
You find the hooded priest near the shrine of Grogar.
His face is completely obscured.

>>535593
"Zebra cannot guide. Only the great Duke can. But pony must be willing to pay price."

535630

>>535627
"What the…"
Try to stand up?
Look at the door, or out of a window, to see if the same is happening.
'1d10'

Roll #1 4 = 4

535631

>>535627
"What's the price?"

535632

>>535627
That's no good. Where could she have gone? Our rooms at the inn, maybe? Wing my way over there and check.

535633

>>535627
"AH!"
Now what!?
Get out of here!

535635

>>535627
Hmmm… Ask around perhaps? Not many crystal ponies around after all '1d10'.

Roll #1 1 = 1

535636

>>535627
Ask around to the people.

"Have you seen a Crystal pony around here?"

'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

535640

>>535627
"What does it take to bring someone back to life? They can do it in books, so it has to be doable here, right?"

535641

>>535627
Do I know about Star's disappearance?

535644

>>535641
Well who did you follow?

535645

>>535589
>>535627
"No.. no nonononono!!"
Find Star!
'1d10'

Roll #1 3 = 3

535676

>>535645
>>535636
Many ponies say they saw a crystal pony wandering around, but they don't know where she went.

>>535635
You land on a roof and crash through it.
It apparently wasn't as sturdy as it looks.
You fall down in bedroom.
A mare and a stallion under sheets look up.
The mare screams.

>>535630
The outside world seems upside down.
The ponies are still walking on the right angle.

>>535633
You open up a window and stick your hoof out.
It's a long way down…since the sky is down now…

>>535631
"There are 2 ways. Credit, pony pay in service to Duke during the afterlife for a period equivalent to the service rendered to pony. Or pony pay in full now, by fulfilling a task for Duke."

"Why are you?"
Note you're still inside the house, just with an open door.

>>535683
You focus on your spell…
It explodes, you tumble and crash face first into the floor, which is up above.
Only your butt and back legs are still visible.
You're stuck.

>>535690

The spell seems to have worked out and both Soil and Silver and all the furniture tumble down
on the floor again.
Silver, who was looking for a way to help Amber, tumbles face down on her butt.

You're back out quickly.

She's not in the inn.

>>535713
You see her near the inn.

>>535715
You struggle to get out and your flankplate gets loose and drops off.
You're very…naked now, feels a bit chilly.
Suddenly you feel 2 sets of hooves grabbing a leg and BAM you're out.

>>535717
You grab one of Ambers back legs.
Silver, who is looking at Ambers flank a few seconds longer than absolutely necessary to assess the situation, also grabs one and together pulls Amber out.

>>535719
"It is not a matter of price. It cannot be done. Grogar teaches us to accept the passing of ponies. Come, look upon this inscription."

You find her together with Pico and Mabel.

>>535716
You see a field of ice next to the river Myr. There lays a frozen zebra wearing a mask.

535732

>>535729
Look at it aswell.
Maybe Amber's got something on her flank.

535733

>>535729
Field of ice? Frozen zebra?

What the fuck is this shit. I don't have goddamn time for any of this death game bullshit!
I sigh and rub the bridge of my nose.

Sit down beside her.
"How are you feeling?"

But Amber's flank is okay, right?
Now I can finally let out a sigh of relief.
>>535746
"Hey, there's this great smith in town, he's gonna fix it up no problem."

535749

>>535748
"Really? Good!"

535757

>>535746
>>535748
Silver hoofs Amber her flankplate.
"Yes, any smith can fix it, don't worry. Are you okay?"
He says with a dumb smile.

In the shade of the trees of blood, she looked to the sky and cursed her fate.

Eternally I swear loyalty to any god who values power and ambition as I do!"
Now the ground split and from the depths of the earth came Grogar, the Supreme Judge.
"Cunning Blight, show me your prowess and the secrets of life and death will be yours forever."
Eagerly Blight spoke the First Word and became the first necromancer.]

535758

"Yes. Pony.
Do this. And Duke will see you."

535759

>>535757
I'll blink at that.
"Why on earth would she hate you? You did everything you could."

535760

>>535757
"So are you saying that if I find Cunning Blight she can help me?"

535761

>>535758
"Alright, I'll do it then."
I start walking off. Since I… accepted my death or whatever the fuck, that means I can find the river, right? And I can just follow it down to where it's frozen?

535762

>>535757
"Totes. Let's go back to the others."

535763

>>535757
"She just saw her friend dead before her. We'd all react the same way. She doesn't hate you, no one does."

535764

>>535757
"She is probably just upset over the death of Melody. Don't take it personally, Star."

535765

>>535757
"Hmmm… That is troubling. I do not see the others, so I assume they must have found her. How are you though?"

535766

>>535757
"Yeah! Thanks for the help! … Why are you smiling?"

535767

>>535757
"What? Why would Shortcake pony hate you?"

I try to calm her down.

His ears perk.
"Oh…I'm just happy you're okay. My paladin partner!"

>>535765
She scratches her head.
"Honestly, I feel my head is about to explode. I thought it would be a calm day, but it seems trouble follows us everywhere."

>>535761

535773

>>535769
I furrow my brow.
God fucking dammit, stupid afterlife. Stop pulling your metaphysical bullshit on me. I gotta go where it's frozen!
Can I see anything from here that looks like it might have a frozen part of the river?

535774

>>535769
"We do."

Pat her on the head.

535775

>>535769
"Why wouldn't we believe you, Star? You're our friend, and companion."
I'll give her a small smile, since Snacks has the comforting hugs/pets covered.
"Shortcake was just panicked. She'll come around, eventually. Especially once she learns we plan on bringing Melody back."

535776

>>535769
Okay, I'm not staying behind as they get all smoochy-woopy.
"Indy, let's go."
Back to the others. Who should be…
The library?
The inn?

535777

>>535769
"It is a shame to see all these events transpire at this time. But on the other hoof it is also comforting to see that your group has resolve and are determined to bring back their friends."

535778

>>535775
"I need to get back to Shortcake at the church. Don't leave her side."

"The others will be at your side. I need to make sure Shortcake is alright too."

535779

>>535769
Hug her and let her cry it out.
"Everyone believes Star pony, its fine."

535780

>>535778
"If they've got the body, don't let them bury it or cremate it or whatever. We'll need it if we expect to bring Melody back."

535781

>>535780
"Understood. I'll let them know."

535782

>>535771
"Indeed. They spoke to the mare named Vilina and a mare named Melody."

>>535770
"It feels better already. This place will not be tormented by chaos anymore!"

>>535772
>>535774
>>535775
>>535779
"I-I don't want m-my f-friends to die anymore…"

>>535776
Iris is at the inn.

>>535777
"And what about you, Miss Heart? You don't know us that long, but still you want to help."

535783

>>535782
"We'll be doing everything in our power not to, Star."

535784

>>535782
"Neither do we… but that's just how nature works."

535785

>>535782
"C…can I talk to Melody?"

535786

>>535782
Wave at her.
"You okay? Where's everypony?"

535787

535788

>>535782
Head back to Church and try to find Shortcake. Ask the nuns for her location.

535789

>>535782
I nod.
"So… we should probably head back to the others now!"

535791

>>535785
"Of course."
He is silent for a second.
"Speak."

>>535773
No but the furthest part of the river is obscured by mist. Perhaps you could ask around.
Then the peculiar feeling in your head starts again.

>>535784
>>535783
She sniffles.
"I-I didn't come to Equestria..a-alone…I-I had f-friends….t-they…"
She breaks down again.

>>535788
She went to see the Priest of Grogar you're told.

>>535789
"Uh…yes…yes…we don't have anything more to do here right?"

>>535786
'Soil! I was just talking to miss Heart. We're still looking for Star. Did you find that Emerald thing?"

535792

>>535782
I just hug her and let her cry.
"Everythings going to be okay."

535793

>>535791
Ugh…
I try to block it out and go ask around.
"Hey! Anyone know where the river freezes over?"

535794

>>535791
Pat Indy on the head with a smile.
"He found it and we smashed it.
It was some kind of Anarchy trick. Turned us upside down, too."

535795

>>535791
"Melody?"

535797

>>535793
All noises become distant.
Instead you hear >>535795

535798

>>535791
>>535785
Walk up to her, but let her keep speaking with the Priest.

535799

>>535791
>>535792
I pat her.
"…… Wherever they are, they are in good hands, take comfort in that."

"What happened to them…"

535800

>>535795
>>535797
"H- Huh? Shorty…? Is that you?"

535802

>>535791
"Nope! Let's go!"
To the others!
… Wherever they are!

535803

>>535800
"Damn it, Melody! Why'd you have to get killed! Why didn't you tell me what was going on and let me help?"

535804

>>535791
"You don't have to say anything, Star. It's a painful thing to lose friends."
I'll readjust my monocle.
"But so long as you live, and you remember them, then they're still alive inside you. So cling to those memories, Star. Cling to them, and draw strength from the friends who helped you to survive until now. No matter how bitter the pain of loss is, you will endure."

535806

>>535782
"I could not possibly decline an offer to help ponies bring back their companions from the afterlife. I… suppose I should shed some light on myself as well. I have come close to death more than once during my lifetime, unfortunately. It is not something I can avoid."

535807

>>535791
Stay silent.

535810

>>535803
"Hey- calm down! I- I didn't know I was gonna die! I was investigating that fighting ring and crawling through the vents there and-"
I angrily snort.
"And that fucking piece of shit asswipe Cracked Skull or whatever dipshit name he had boobytrapped the fucking vent. I got caught and blown up."
I sigh.
"But look. I'm coming back. I promise you that, Shorty."
I give a small smile, even though she can't see me.
"I'm not just gonna go and leave you alone like that you know. Not my style."

535812

>>535810
"We're working on bring you back from this end too. Stay safe and…"
I frown.
"And try to contain yourself, too. This is…hard. It's hard for me and I don't want to bring you back halfway through you enjoying yourself with some banshee."

535814

>>535812
"…"
I drop into a straight up deadpan.
"really. reeeeally."

535815

>>535814
"Really. The dinner we had with Lyra and Bonbon has left me thinking…I don't know what I think. I want to talk face to face about whatever you and I are."

535816

>>535815
"Huh? What are you talking about, Shorty?"

535818

>>535816
"UGH! Just, just stay safe, okay? I'll see you soon."

535819

>>535792
>>535799
>>535804
>>535807
"T-they're…g-gone."
She hugs Snacks tightly and buries her face in his fur.

>>535794
She sighs.
"Well at least it's over now."
She gives you a hug.
"And my hero is back with me."

>>535802
To the inn.
LH is here too.
Good thing he still has his flankarmor so you don't notice the boner.

>>535806
She nods.
"Adventuring is a risky profession. Me and Soil also had moments where I feared it was over."

PAUSE

535820

>>535818
"Me and the others will do everything we can too make sure of that."

535821

>>535818
"O-… kay?"

535822

>>535819
>>535821
I frown but stay quiet.

535823

>>535819
>>535806
"Hey, I never feared it was over!
I'm just a bit worried at times."

535825

>>535819
Silver…
"We're done. I found the thing I had been sensing all this time."

535826

>>535819
"I'm afraid you do not understand. I have a medical condition, you see, but do not worry, it is not a infectious disease of any sort. I have a heart defect. When under serious stress, it has a tendency to… misbehave."

535827

>>535819
Just let her cry on my shoulder and hug her.
"I'll be here whenever youi need me Star. I'll be here."

535828

>>535826
"Stress like what?"

535829

>>535828
"The physical kind. It is why I prefer to keep at range when blows are dealt."

535830

>>535829
"That's gotta suck.
Y'know, feeling the hurt, the shock of the blow as my shield slams against those things twenty times bigger than me…"
Make the motion with my hooves as they crash.
"And then movin' them, too. It's the best thing in the world."
Quickly glance at Iris.
"Second best.
Or at least tie."

535832

>>535830
"I have learned to live with it. Physical strength will never be my forte. I simply have to keep calm, exercise care and patience and take my pills."
I chuckle.

535833

>>535832
"But, when hunting, there's like, mosters everywhere!
And stuff to carry and move and hit and run, how you gonna do that?"

535834

>>535833
"Do not worry about me darling, I have a good amount of adventuring and combat experience under my belt. My papa taught me how to shoot when I was six."

535835

>>535834
"Hey, my pa' taught me how to slam when I was a wee' lad too!"
Jump up excited.
"What's your adventures been like?"

535836

>>535835
"I left home a mere few years ago to travel with a certain group. Unfortunately we eventually broke apart, leaving me rather lonely and stranded. But I had my rifle…"
Pat my gun, then tap my head with a hoof.
"… and my wits. I worked as a bounty hunter for quite some time. I hunted criminals and aided in keeping the land safe. Eventually I traveled to Equestria."

535837

>>535836
"Not the nicest of places."

535838

>>535837
"I quite like it despite all the hardships. It does have a certain charm to it."

538564

>>535822
The Priest is silent again.

>>535819
She hugs you.
"Well I feared it was over a few times. I should have known better."

>>535825
Silver adds.
"And it's destroyed."

>>535826
Iris listens to the whole story.
"My dear Light Heart, I'm so so sorry. I wish I could help."

>>535827
"I know, Snacks, I know. You've been so good to me…"

538565

>>538564
>>535838
"I'm sure there's a way to fix that."

538566

Is Star better?

538567

>>538564
>>538565
"Ya'll do not need to feel sorry for me. I have come to accept and live with it. But I thought it would be wise to inform you now. When something happens…"
Take out a bottle of pills.
"… administer these."

538568

>>538564
I'll do what I can for Shortcake, but I should probably take her back to the Church. Warren and the others would be expecting us to be there.

538569

>>538564
I shake my head.
That's gonna be fun to deal with when I get back…

Whatever. I start asking around about that frozen portion of the river.
"Hey! Anyone here know where the river freezes over?"

538570

>>538567
"Like, the whole bottle?"

538571

>>538570
"Just one, darling."
Put the bottle away again.

538572

>>538571
"Kay."

538573

>>538564
"Well, Star, I believe you're in good paws, so I think it's time the rest of us met up with Shortcake, to make sure she hasn't done anything rash."

538574

>>538564
"Which was a pretty intense process! My armor got damaged!"

>>535826
>>538567
"Uh… okay! Wow, I had no idea this was a thing! Good thing you told us!"

538584

>>538574
Silver nods.
"Not for the weak."

>>538573
>>538566
"I'll be fine. With Snacks." she says weakly.

>>538568
She already went to the graveyard to talk to the Priest.

>>538567
>>538565
Iris nods.
"Of course, miss Heart. We wouldn't want anything to happen to you. It's very brave you followed your dreams to become an adventurer anyway."

>>538569
Man, don't you wish you got some eternal rest sometime.
One of the souls, a stallion looks up.
"I know."

538585

>>538584
"You do? Great! Where is it?"

538587

>>538584
Look around.
"Where's everypony else?"

538588

>>538584
I'll nod.
"Alright, I'll be taking off, then. I'll cover more ground in the air. We'll all meet up at the church, then?"

538589

>>538584
I was directed from the Church to the Grogarian Priest by the nuns.

Guess I'll head back by myself after letting her know we're all here for.

538591

>>538574
>>538584
"But enough about this dreary subject, what are you all planning on doing next?"

538592

>>538591
"Go upstairs."

538593

>>538584
>>538591
>>538587
"Uh… I don't know? Where's Warren? And Mabel? And the others?"

538594

>>538592
"Upstairs?"
Give him a puzzled look.

>>538593
"I believe they were looking for miss Star. She sounded quite upset."

538595

>>538594
!
"Star? Upset? Where is she?"

538596

>>538584
Let's try and find the others.

538597

>>538594
"Yeah.
To get ready for savin' Vilina, and Melody.
Gotta rest before that."

538598

SHALL I REGROUP EVERYONE IN THE INN?

538599

>>538597
"Ah, of course. A wise action. It sounds like quite the undertaking."

>>538595
"I'm afraid I do not know that myself, sugar."

538600

538602

>>538598
That would be swell.

538603

>>538599
"Oh no… I hope she's alright! She's my crystal buddy!"

>>538598
Sure

538604

538605

>>538598
Please.

538609

Every one of you, except Melody make your way to the inn in your own way.
After some rest and something to eat, you sit down at a large table to go over your findings and decide where to go next.
Iris, Star and Tullip are here as well.

>>538585
He gets up and slowly floats towards the Myr.
"Do you know what the Ice Fields are?"

538610

>>538609
I'm all ears
Let the others talk

538611

>>538609
I better have a cup of tea to sip from.

538612

>>538609
Is Iris looking sad?
"Well, the chaos emerald is destroyed… that's one good thing at least."

538613

>>538609
"So, the Priest mentioned a pony by the name of Cunning Blight. Am I correct in assuming that this will be our most likely lead?"

538614

There's this great smith in town. Can fix everything up."

538619

>>538612
A shadow emerald?

Better not question the paladin.

>>538613
"Indeed. I'm afraid I have not found anything in the library about the subject though."

538621

>>538616
"I know! Still hate seeing it get torn though!"

>>538617
"No… I just got stuck in the floor, but Silver and Soil pulled me out!"

538622

>>538619
"Still, that at least leaves us with a name we can ask around for. Perhaps others have heard the name or worked with them."

>>538621
"How did you wind up getting stuck?"

538623

>>538609
"No, I don't. What the hell are the Ice Fields?"

538628

>>538622
"The house was tilted upside down!"

538630

>>538626

538632

"I'm just going to accept that as fact."

"Does this place have a name?"

538633

>>538630
Nod eagerly.

538634

>>538630
"Yup! Because of the chaotic energy that was released when it was destroyed!"

538635

>>538633
>>538634
"The things you get up to…"
I'll shake my head slightly.
>>538632
"Yes, if whomever has the map could lay it out. The place we're looking for is called the Ram's Fissure."

538637

>>538625
"I do not."

>>538634
"A shame you had to destroy it. Was it so dangerous to keep?"

538638

>>538623
"Look over there."
He points up the river, near the turn in the distance.
"If you look very good, you can get a glimpse in the distance. It is the place where Grogar punishes the type of mortals he hates most."

>>538612
Iris seems shaken, but okay.
Star the same, but she's in the paws of Snacks right now.

>>538611
Of course.

538640

>>538635
"Ah! See, just like I said.
Doin' the thing at the place like that mare!"

538642

>>538637
"Yeah, it could drive a pony to insanity with ease! Way too dangerous!"

>>538638
Okay…
I wish I could help them.

538643

>>538635
"How did you come across such a place and what should we bring along to get there?"

538645

And then off I go. I fly-

538670

>>538667
"Amber can explain better."

538671

>>538665
"As I said, the Ram's Fissure is our first stop. It's supposedly a place that Grogar himself stepped into the world, which is why the trees around it and everything turned the way they are now. That's where Cunning Blight called him before, and that's where we'll do the same."

The journey will be in 4 parts.
Each part will require you to make a roll for overall safety or you might get into dangerous situations.
Now you must decide which road to follow.
The first part into the Everfree will take you near Warlocks Haven.
An ancient ruined fortress, made by Luna and Celestia during the Grand Crusade, it should be totally abandoned, yet local rumors persist of dark forces at work there.
You can choose to
#Go through it
The chance of an encounter is small, however if total of your rolls is less than 4/10 you'll have a very hard encounter.

or

#Go around it
The trip will be a bit longer, and chances of an encounter are higher but the chance of a very hard encounter is much lower.

538677

>>538673
"We will."

>>538671
"Is that the way to the Underworld?"

The party has charted a path THROUGH Warlock Haven

The next part of the journey seems to lead you towards a river.
Slithering River twists through the Everfree. It's path baffles pony geologists to this day, theorizing some strange magic flows through it.

You can
#Go over the Bridge.
A toll is asked by some of the local creatures.

of

#Try to make a raft
You'll get to make a raft through a series of rolls.

538720

>>538719

"Cheer up Star! We'll get them back here in no time and then we can party!"

538830

>>538819
Seems like your brain is not that dumb when it comes to Iris.
She nods and gets up, wordlessly.

>>538820
In an obscure book on draconequi you find a reference to an old town which had vanished after reports surfaced of a draconequus.
It seemed to have existed near the Howling Gorge and vanished about 879 years ago.

>>538821
"I've been very busy."

>>538822
"Party? You want to party with me?"

538832

>>538830
"Uh, yeah? Why not? It would be fun to party!"

538834

>>538830
That's because it comes all from my heart!
Let's have a walk outside, near the riverbank.
"-y'know I'm no good at this… Talking and feelings thing…"

538835

>>538830
"I see. Surprising to see one so young as yourself with this group, but perhaps Equestrian mares are simply more inclined to leave their parental homes early. What is your name, if you do not mind me asking?"

538837

>>538830
Hmm. I wonder if there's a way to pull them out of the bag without, well, destroying the entire town. I'll have to ask while we're in Canterlot.

538848

>>538832
"I…I've never been to a big party before."

>>538834
She puts a hoof around you.
"Then show me how you feel."

>>538835
She looks you over.
"Just call me Tullip, my last name isn't important. You're from the New World aren't you?"

>>538837
Sounds like a plan m8.

PAUSE

538850

>>538848
"First time for everything! I bet Canterlot has tons of parties!"

538851

>>538848
I nod.
"That is right. I am an adventurer of sorts. Or rather… a bounty hunter. I had heard about an illustrious group of adventurers being nearby while passing in Ponyville, so I decided to wait for ya'll to arrive here. I cannot say I am regretting that choice thus far."
I chuckle.

544487

>>538850
"I don't know…I know that it's huge, like really huge. Bigger than the Crystal Capital."

>>538851
She perks a brow.
"A bounty hunter? Like…what did you hunt?"

544489

Where were we?

544490

>>544487
"Why, criminals of course. The sheriffs back home were always eager to put bounties out on ponies who had committed a crime. Ponies like me then hunted these individuals down and brought them in for a reward… dead or alive. A bit gruesome, I admit, but it was to protect the good citizens from harm."

544491

>>544487
I look at Star and give a warm smile.
"Feeling better?"

544492

>>544487
!
"No way!"

544495

>>538848
"Is there anything else we need to wait in town for?"

544496

>>544488
Sometimes all you need is a little kiss on the lips and a hug.
"Tell me what bothers you. " she says as she holds you in a hug.

>>544490
She sits up.
"How exciting, did you shoot many ponies?"

>>544491
She nods and gives you a hug.
"Much better~"

>>544492
"Yes way. I saw it once from the distance. It's on a very big mountain. And half of it was covered with houses!"

>>544493

>>544495
>>544489
Currently you're still in the inn. It would be wise to leave first thing tomorrow. There's nothing that absolutely has to be done now, but some people are still faffing.

544497

>>544496
"…Shouldn't I ask you that?
Ponies do the other way around!"

544498

>>544496
I chuckle.
"We do love our firearms back home, yes. And I did. Some may disapprove of this, but sometimes utilizing lethal force is necessary to succeed. And these were bad and dangerous ponies; murderers and bandits, not petty thieves. Not to say I am so bloodthirsty, some of them willingly turned themselves in at gunpoint."

544499

>>544496
Well I'm not sure what to faff about so I'll just wait.

544500

>>544496
I scrunch.
"I bet it's not nearly as shiny and clean though! They don't have a crystal heart either!"

544501

>>544496
I'll take the opportunity to pray in my room. After all that has happened, I'm still a little shaken up.

544503

>>544496
Hug her back, being glad that she is here right now.
"Say does Star want to grab something to eat or is she feeling sleepy?"

544504

>>544501
Who you praying to?

>>544497
"It's been such a crazy day…and tomorrow we'll go to resurrect Vilina…this is all so much at once. I don't know how you can handle it."

>>544500
"I heard the Palace of the Sun is amazing though!"

>>544498
She frowns.
"You sound like a lawyer."

544505

>>544503
"Let's just go to bed soon."

Sit somewhere and pull her onto my hooves, covering her up as if to shield her.
"I've got other stuff to think about.
Like protecting you."

544508

>>544504
"I am lawyer nor judge, darling. I simply bring the wanted outlaws to the sheriff. Whether they received the death penalty, jailing time or a burial, I received a reward for upholding order and security."

544509

>>544505
I nod while scratching my head.
"Ah.. hehe.. Snack is also sleepy too. Snack will escort Star to her room."
Lead her back to her room.

544510

>>544504
I huff.
Probably not nearly as amazing as the palace back home!
"Well… I bet they haven't seen the crystal palace then!"

544511

>>544504
Are we still faffing, or have things begun to move forward?

544512

Who wants to continue faffing?
If just one or two people I can timesplit and start the expedition to Ram's Fissure.

Do you want to take Star/Iris/Tullip with you?

544513

>>544512

They can come if they want to for sure!

544514

Oh well.

544515

>>544512
I'd like to faff some more if possible. Even if it's a timesplit. And hey, if they want to come along, they're welcome to.

544516

>>544512
I don't really have much else to do at the moment besides heading out.

544517

Timesplit is fine for me if everyone wants to go ahead.
I dont know if letting any of them come along be a good idea though.

Tullip says she'd rather handle some more business in Ponyville.

544520

It's dangerous, so Star should know that.

544521

Snack can keep an eye on Star, so I'm fine with that.

Sure thing Star can come if she likes to!

We are going literally into the depths of hell.
I'm not sure Iris would like that…
"I'm scared you get hurt, tomorrow."

544525

Star can join us, but she should be ready for trouble.
And if Tulip has business, then we aren't really ones to stand in her way.

544526

But I want to continue Faff with Star for a little longer…

I open the door to her room.
"Remember those and we will be all set for tomorrow. Snack will go to his room and…. sleep."

544535

You say your goodbyes and venture into the dark Everfree forest.
Soon the sounds and sights give way to the wilderness. The path slowly dissolves amidst the foliage and more than a few times you have to search carefully to make sure you don't get lost.
After a few hours the trees end and you reach a canyon. There is only one shaky wooden bridge.
On the other side on the hill you see the old fort of Warlocks Haven. Once a mighty citadel of the Sisters themselves it has fallen into ruin and disrepair after so many centuries.
The sun shines brightly, yet you feel cold when looking upon it. It is just a little darker over the hill than it should be.

>>544530
"It sounds weird. Like I'm talking to one of my fathers accountants…Are you really a bounty hunter?"

>>544531
You sit down and she lays her head on your shoulder.
"Tell me about the farm."

Some ravens chirp overhead.
The paladins amongst you feel a shiver crawling up your spine from the residual energy of hundreds of years of dark rituals being practiced here.
What must have once been lush gardens and grand halls are barren, ruined and dirty.
When you pass through the ruined Great Hall you see a few old flags of the Sun and Moon, desecrated with old demonic sigils, who knows how long they've been there.
Star speaks up.

"Luckily, it was wintertime. This meant that traveling would be harder for them because of the weather, as this took place in an area with rough terrain. It also meant that they would likely make campfires more often to keep warm, which meant that I simply had to look for plumes. They were all earth ponies of course, many ponies in the new world are. As a pegasus, you benefit from this as ponies rarely think of looking above them to check for pursuers. Still, wings or not, there was a lot of terrain for me to cover in order to find them and the cold affected me too. Then, one day I spot a small plume in the distance and decide to investigate by flight. After circling around, I managed to confirm that these were indeed the ponies I was looking for without them noticing me. Of course, I was on my own… and they had the numerical advantage. Eight to one, to be exact."

Star begins. "400 years ago or so, this castle was inhabited by an evil wizard. Nopony knew his name, but he was feared for miles around. They say he sacrificed anypony coming to close to the castle to his dark god. He was waited upon by the walking corpses of ponies and vampony warriors to terrorize the good ponies of ponyville." Relax a little more myself as well.
"I decided to set a trap to change the chances of a good outcome into my favor. I perched on a tree and observed them while they rested, then took note of which direction they were traveling once they began moving again. Once I was certain it was safe for me to advance as well, I took flight once more and carefully glided ahead of them, hoping they would stick to their current course. I had a map of the area with me, so I could wager a guess which town they were headed to. They clearly wished to cross the border to Mexicolt so that the chances of being recognized were lower for them. No doubt they would eventually have fled the continent entirely."
I pull my rifle closer to me and softly caress the barrel with a hoof.
"But I digress… Once I was far enough ahead I began looking for a suitable place to set up a trap. And… I did. An old abandoned mineshaft, to be exact. A quick investigation yielded me some very… useful tools."

You pass one of the towers. You hear hoofsteps above.

"No honey, there was a crate which still contained some very old sticks of dynamite. Quite dangerous and unstable material, especially so if you consider that they 'sweat' nitroglycerin as they age. It took me a bit longer than I would have liked to move them into a bag of mine and carefully move them back outside."
Pause for a moment as I consider my next words.
"So… I created a little campfire at the entrance of this mine and made it look as if somepony had set up camp there. The dynamite was carefully placed inside a closed bag near the campfire, which was nice and plain in view. I then took flight again and perched myself on a tree branch somewhere down the way I came in from to wait for them."

"I don't like this one bit! There's a dark and sinister presence in this place."
Bolster Warren.

544627

>>544625
"Let's just keep walking then."

544629

>>544625
"We can scoot out before they notice. We're not enough to clear this place out, after all."

544630

>>544611
Inferni flies around one of the towers, keeping his eyes on it.

>>544622
You can't see whatever Inferni is looking at.

You are at the other side of Warlocks Haven. You can go back into the forest for the next part of your journey or you can stay here.

>>544618
>past
"So what happened next?"

544631

>>544627
>>544629
"Or maybe we should investigate! It's our duty as paladins to look into this kind of stuff!"

544632

>>544631
"You mean look for trouble?"

>>544630
Keep an eye on Inferni.

544634

>>544631
>>544630
>>544632
"Here, how about I fly up there to investigate? Inferni and I can look out for each other."

544635

>>544632
"Yeah!"

544637

>>544634
>>544635
Shake my head.
"I'm really not sure we should start chasing shadows now."

544638

>>544630
"They moved into the campsite very carefully, unsure of the location of its creator. The fire was still burning, so they were sure there had to be somepony around."
I chuckle.
"How right they were… I was simple a bit higher up than they expected. I lined up my rifle and aimed for the bag as they approached… and pulled the trigger. It was an excellent shot, if I do say so myself. The resulting explosion was quite potent and killed four of them immediately, wounding two others but leaving the last two unharmed."

>>544631
"Are you certain it is necessary? It may simply be harmless Bohemians living here."

544640

>>544631
"Not all of us are paladins, Amber. And we have a pressing engagement. Priorities, Amber."

544641

>>544637
"just a glance, could be whoever was here has also opted to leave."

Fly up there and check around.

Survival, look for signs that people have been here recently.

"… What's a Bohemian?"
I frown.
"If you want to keep moving, fine! But I have a duty to perform!"
Look at Silver.
"Right?"

544643

>>544642
"Yes, but we also have friends to save."

544644

>>544642
"Amber, this is hardly the time to split the party. If a paladin went chasing shadows every time they ran across them on the way to something bigger, they would never get anything done. Mostly because in chasing one shadow, five more split off from the trail."

544647

>>544642
Silver grabs his blade.
"We have a duty to our friends as well. Perhaps once they're safe, we can report what we've seen here. This place is far too big for just two paladins to investigate properly."

>>544641
You notice hoofprints on the wall, it leads to a bunch of barrels.

>>544638
"Oh, they must have been shocked!"

544648

>>544643
"What if someone dangerous and evil roams around here? What if he kills somepony innocent tomorrow because we didn't take the time to deal with him? Pony of shadows or not, this place feels evil!"

>>544647
I frown and just say nothing.

544650

>>544648
"Who in their right mind would come to the Everfree forest?"

544651

>>544647
I'll make sure Inferni has line of sight on me, then investigate. It's probably going to be some Colt's hidden stash.

Check the barrels and around them. Turn them all upside down if I have to. '1d10+3'

Roll #1 9 + 3 = 12

544652

>>544650
"Ponyville is nearby. But fine, you've decided! I'll forgo my duties as a paladin."

544654

>>544652
"We can deal with it on the way back."

544656

>>544647
"Oh yes, they had no idea what hit them when it did. I kept shooting too of course, the explosion caused quite the confusion and they still were not immediately aware of where I was. It took a bit of work to get them all, but the element of surprise helped me prevail in the end. I remained unharmed, though I did come close to being hit once or twice. That said, with all of them dispatched and the carriage still in one piece… I had no way of bringing all of this back to the civilized world."

544658

>>544651
You open the first one.
A high pitched voice comes out of it. "Please don't hurt me, I don't have money!"
You grab a brown goat out of it.

>>544652
Silver frowns.
"We should think of our friends…you heard Vilina, it seemed like she was in trouble."

>>544656
"Couldn't you put them in the carriage?"

544661

>>544658
Sigh as I pull out the goat.

"First off, I don't need it. Secondly, what are you doing here. And finally, are your friends in the other barrels too?"

544662

>>544658
"I could, but this carriage was rather large. It required four ponies to pull its weight with everything on board. And the things that were on board were quite valuable as well. Of course, I on my own had no way of pulling it all the way back. Instead, I took out a single bag and took it with me, then took off to the nearest town to confront the sheriff with the evidence and inform him of what had happened. Being a pegasi, this was done relatively swiftly. A search party was sent out and the items were eventually all recovered."

544664

>>544658
I scrunch and stomp a hoof.
"I know! Why are we still standing around then? Where is Queren? If we're not going to investigate because we're in a hurry, then we should actually hurry!"

544667

>>544664
"That is a good point. Where did he fly off to?"

544668

>>544664
Queren seems to be on top of the tower.
He might have found something.

>>544661
"No! I don't have friends."
He gives you a look.
"I thought you'd be killing me about now!"

544670

>>544668
Let out a whistle for Inferni.
"Could you hurry Queren up?"

544671

>>544668
Then let's try to go up!

>>544667
"Come on! Let's go get him!"

544673

544674

>>544670
>>544671
"Just wait there, I'll be coming down shortly! Someone was up here, but I got it."

>>544668
"No, but it's surprising to find someone up here. If you don't mind, you'll be coming with us and you can explain your story on how you wound up here."

Are there any stairs, or am I going to have to fly him down?

544675

>>544671
"Right."
>>544674
"Someone? What did you find up there?"

544678

>>544675
"Come up if you can, actually!"

Keep trying to get some details out of the goat.

544679

>>544678
Bah. Flap up.

544686

>>544674
He bleats.
"I can walk you know."
There are stairs, Amber comes up one of them.

>>544679
>>544674
Queren holds a grey goat in his claws.
"Hey, I didn't do anything wrong."
Inferni lands nearby.

544687

>>544686
"But you are in a rather odd place. Why are you here?"

544690

>>544673
"Wow, that's amazing. I stand corrected, miss Heart. You really are a bounty hunter!"

544691

>>544686
I'll keep my hold on him for now.

"It is rather odd to find someone here, but answer our questions and we'll be off."

544693

>>544686
>>544691
"Uh… a goat? Who is this?"
I'm not sure I trust this…

544695

>>544693
"That's what we're trying to find out."

544697

>>544691
>>544693
"You haven't a question yet!"
He bleats.
"Look, let me down, and I'll answer what you want. I'm getting dizzy."

544698

>>544690
I chuckle.
"I am happy to hear so. I hope you enjoyed that long and winding tale."

544700

>>544698
"It's far more interesting than hunting monsters."

544701

>>544697
"But I did…"

I'll put him down when he's surrounded."

544703

>>544700
"Is it? I believe they are both very interesting activities. Taking down an ursa? Now that is quite impressive indeed. Do you not agree?"

544712

>>544703
"It was okay, but he was already on top of a huge tree. He just fell down!"

>>544701
"No you didn't!"

544715

>>544712
"Well I do declare, that is no small feat miss Tullip! Ya'll are lucky to have such a great group of friends to adventure with. I do hope I will be able to stick around myself."

544717

>>544715
"The whole forest exploded. It was awful."

544718

>>544717
"Well… yes, that does sound quite awful. But with it gone, you helped quite a lot of ponies here in Ponyville. Does that not make you feel proud?"

544721

>>544718
"Well….hmmm."
She scratches her head.
"That gives me an idea!"

544723

>>544721
"Oh? Do elaborate."

544725

>>544723
"We've been going all around everywhere. But we haven't been making any money of it. Look at how all those ponies worshiped us when we came here.
We should start a business, do marketing.

544728

>>544725
I cock my head.
"A business venture? Are you… certain your friends would approve? They do not seem like the type who wish to profit from their success in such a way. I for one would fully endorse this, however."

544730

>>544728
"Just wait, I'll set it all up while you're going to the Everfree. You'll be so surprised when you get back!"

544731

>>544712
"I asked you when I first found you. Now, at least tell me your name and what you were doing here!"

544734

>>544730
"I would still suggest running this idea by your friends first…"

544735

>>544734
"I'm sure they'll love it! And it will be better as a surprise."

544736

>>544735
"If you say so, sugar. You do know them better than I do I suppose. Do try to not go overboard however."

544738

>>544736
"Oh, I can be subtle."
She grins.

544739

>>544738
"Well, we still have some time before we leave. Would you care to shed some light on yourself perhaps? I admit I am a bit curious what it is that brings a nice mare such as yourself to travel around as a monster hunter. You do not look like a physical fighter… a mage of sorts perhaps? Or a gunpony like myself?"

544740

>>544739
"I shoot a crossbow….sometimes."

544741

>>544740
"A… crossbow? Quite classic. Not the kind of weapon I would suspect you to use, but a respectable choice nonetheless."

544742

>>544741
"It's the only weapon I have."

544743

>>544742
"Ah. Do you desire to change that, by any chance?"

544744

>>544743
"..I don't think I'm good at being a hunter. I realize that now…"

544746

>>544744
"You are not? Well, there is no shame in that. You can always learn."

544747

>>544746
"Eh…I think I'd be better as a businesspony. Like my parents."
She chuckles.
"Funny how I had to get away from home to realize that."

544748

>>544747
"You could still learn how to defend yourself, could you not? It may save your life one day. My papa taught me how to shoot when I was a mere filly, though he did not expect me to ever become a bounty hunter or, indeed, a monster hunter."

544749

>>544748
"Warren and Queren already taught me a bit. I hope it will be enough."

544750

>>544749
"You may need to consider asking for more training on how to use your crossbow. I myself have little idea how to, so I cannot aid you there. But if you ever were to pick up a gun, I would gladly teach you all there is to know."

544751

>>544750
"Well…perhaps when you get back. I've always wanted to shoot some stuff."

544754

>>544751
"It can be very therapeutic, I admit."
I chuckle.
"I think we will get along quite well, miss Tullip. Ponies with a keen sense of business are to be treasured."

544755

>>544754
"…goodnight, miss Heart."

544756

>>544755
"Good night."

549180

You enter with a healthy sense of paranoia and are immediately greeted by the stench of sweat and waste.
The tower is old and in disarray. The part of the floor that isn't collapsed has been covered with a patch of hay, and dozens of boxes filled with all kinds of old art and statues.
One look through one of the holes in the floor shows the area below was and is being used as a toilet.
"See, I collect all these things, for museums and art collections!"

549215

>>549210
"On your own? … Wow!"

549216

>>549210
"Why are we even wasting time here, ponies?"

549217

"Have you… ever shown these things to museums and art collectors?"

549226

>>549217
He bleats.
"A few months, busy, busy."

>>549219
The goat winks at you.
"You get used to it after a while. The hay is very comfortable."

>>549222
All manner of things.
A few portraits in reasonable condition, parts of armor, some banners, and a collection of ceremonial weapons.

>>549225
"Yes, yes, many times!"

Star speaks up
"Why do you keep the art like that?"
The goat bleats "…what?"
"The art, the weapons, most archeologist categorize them and make sure they're properly secured. Yours are just thrown together in a box!"
"Uh…."

549229

>>549226
What a slob.
"I must agree with miss Star. This seems… disrespectful."

549230

>>549226
"What strange ponies are you referring to as well?"

I

549231

>>549226
"I'd rather not."

549232

>>549226
"… Strange ponies? Elaborate!"

549234

>>549226
Because he's a looter, obviously.
"Yeah, answer Star."

549238

>>549226
"I don't think he's quite what you'd call a 'professional', Star. More of a 'hobbyist who lives here but decided to make the best of it.'"

549241

>>549230
>>549232
"The last 2 came around here some days ago…"

>>549234
>>549229
>>549238
"Uh….well I don't really have much to work with here. I categorize all of them when I get back home…."

549245

>>549241
"What are they like!?"

549246

>>549241
"What did they look like?"

549247

>>549241
"Describe those two. In detail."

549248

>>549241
"You don't live here?"
I'll think a moment.
"And you said two ponies? One of them wouldn't have happened to be a very dull-looking crystal pony, would they?"

549250

>>549241
"Hmmm. I see."

549254

>>549245
>>549246
>>549247

He nods at Warren.
"Yes, one of them looked like the pretty shiny ponies here. But really dull, it gave me the shivers.
The other pony was a mare, and she had this weird make up on her face.
I hid when they came here. After a while, I came out because I thought they had gone. But no, a few hours later they popped out again out of nowhere!"

549256

>>549254
"Did they talk to you, demand something?"

Approach him. "Were they armed?"

549258

>>549254
"That sounds like Mardi Gras and her companion. Though what they were doing out here is curious."

549259

>>549256
>>549258
"No, they told me to get out of the way, so I did."
He points to the north, towards the large peak of Canterlot.
"They went that way!"

"Dammit! I'll get them one day!"

549264

>>549254

"We already knew they were here in the Everfree."

549268

>>549261
"But today's not that day. They're ahead of us, but that's all. We've got other priorities."
>>549259
"Thanks for the tip. We should be on our way, though…"

549269

RIGHT
I AM HERE TOO

I am walking down the frozen part of the river and some snake thing is trying to help me, right?

549271

>>549268
Scruuuunch.
"… Fine!"

549273

>>549268

>>549276
"We're very dangerous too! But we have a different mission to complete first!"

549282

>>549276

549283

>>538817

549284

>>549282
"I don't think they waited for me.
They seemed to be here for something else.
Perhaps they went into one of the dungeons without me seeing."

549287

>>549284
"What would be down there?"

549294

>>549283
"Yeeees, keep going. To those snowy hills, ignore the punished."

>>549287
"there are at least 20 entrances to down there. And it's large very, very, very large. I haven't been down there, it scares me. I heard stories of the Pony of Shadows."

549295

>>549294
Off I go then.
I take fli-
…god dammit right.
I keep walking.

549297

>>549287
>>549281
"I say we detour a bit and investigate. Whatever is being sought in a place like this can't be good for anyone."

549300

>>549294
"So have we, and for a moment, we thought that's who you were."

549302

>>549297
I frown.
"Make up your minds already!"

549304

>>549297
"We can do that on the way back. We might be running out of time, for all we know."

549306

>>549302
"I'd like to check out the dungeon. It doesn't feel right."

549307

These ponies certainly love wasting time.

549308

>>549306
"We can check it out on the way back. It's not like it's going anywhere."

549310

>>549308

549314

>>549295
You pass a large number of these frozen ponies, gryphons and others.
But soon you reach the snowy hill, at the top sits a lone griffon wielding a sword, motionless.
He opens his eyes as you arrive.

Indeed. We have distances to cover.

549321

You see a stone bridge in the distance.
The edges are blocked by boulders the size of 3 ponies.
On both sides sit a number of Stone Trolls, when you approach one of the trolls gets up.
"Pretty ponies must pay toll if cross."

>>549319
"I know the mask of which you speak, pony. We have claimed it from the zebra spy who was sent here. Tell your Duke that the griffons suffer no trespasses on their territory. The Zebra Dukes live in Forest, the Griffon Ancients in the hills, so it is, and so it has always been."

>>554704
Your eagle eyes see some torches in the distance. Some large chamber.
Perhap

>>554685
>>554709
"Silver is absolutely right! We must destroy them from this world!"

554724

>>554685
I shake my head.
"Is any pony hurt?"

>>554719
"Snack thinks so too."

554726

>>554709
Frown.
"I'm really really sorry… you can stay back if you want."

>>554719
I let out a sigh.
"I… have to agree. They are not natural."

554728

>>554709
"Fair enough, I suppose."
>>554719
"We should tend to our wounds before going further, though."
I'll look at the others.
"How are we all holding up?"

554730

>>554719
"Excellent healing, miss Amber. And I agree with ya'll, these creatures must be dealt with."

554731

>>554726
He waggles a bit and some feathers fall off him.
Still he flies up on your back again.

554734

>>554719
"Too true. Imagine if they had left the woods and entered any nearby town."

>>554728
"A few marks, but if that's all I have, I thank the Ancients."

554735

>>554731
"I'll make up for this, I promise."

554736

>>554731
How is Indy doing?

554737

>>554730
"No prob!"

>>554728
"Just fine!"

554738

>>554735
He nods.

554741

>>554736
He's got some scratches but seems to hold on.
You notice he's starting to grow scales.
Soon he will be more tough.

554743

>>554642
>>554736
>>554737
"Should we follow that deep voice in the dark?" I give a worried expression.

554744

>>554741
Uh.
Scales.
Guess for now he can just rest on my back as I catch a breather.
>>554743
"Yes.
And slam it back to whatever dark corner it came from!"

554746

>>554741
Anyone need healing? Check for wounds.

>>554743
"Seems like a great idea, yeah! I'll smite him!"

554750

>>554746
You and Silver help everypony as much as you can.

554752

>>554743
"That seems like the best course of action, yes."
Reload my gun.

554757

Shall we keep going?

554758

>>554752
>>554746
>>554744
I reload my crossbow.
"Alright, Snack is ready then."

554761

>>554757
"We can't allow this evil to carry on when we can stop it."

554762

>>554757
can't focus on two quests properly on this tablet

554765

>>554757
We can continue tomorrow
