>You contact Starswirl for a bit of magical education before bed
>Your ability to create light, a shield, and a duplicate of yourself isn't too much different than dreamwielding as far as execution
>You merely have to think of what you want to do and then let it be
>The major difference is that magic is more taxing on your physical body while dreamwielding holds no ill effects
>You're able to make a decent enough shield to withstand a blast from Starswirl, but your duplicate could use some work
>Starswirl suggests some study from his personal library
>You ask about Harmonyllium and what you can do with what you have
>Starswirl informs you of his wokr with Harmonyllium and how frustrating it has been working with it because it's effects always seem to change with whatever he does
>Here is what you know of Harmonyllium when working with other objects:
-Harmonyllium cannot be reshaped once it has been made into something other than its natural state
-Harmonyllium tends to reflect the use of whatever it's made into
-Harmonyllium is usable with gems, but the effect a gem has when set into an object of Harmonyllium is unpredictable
>Starswirl tells you that the amount you have may be forged into a necklace or a ring
>You think of doing something with Luna's gift, but seeing as how Harmonyllium tends to reflect the use of whatever it's made into, you don't see how a hair accessory would do much
>Starswirl tells you that Harmonyllium may work differently when set with other metals as it does with gems, but he won't know what it would do until everything has been set
>True, Harmonyllium can not be reshaped, but if made into something that can have the gems changed whenever desired, that might prove to be more versatile
>Still unsure of what to do with the Harmonyllium, you postpone your decision and bid Starswirl goodnight

 No.635265

>Starswirl sends you back out into the halls of the palace and you stop by Celestia's room for a visit
>After listening outside her door for a moment, you announce yourself and she visits with you
>You offer to give her what Harmonyllium you have towards making the Chains of Harmony but Celestia tells you that such a small amount won't make much difference and that you should do what you want with what you've found
>The piece of Harmonyllium you have is pure and natural, while the Harmonyllium they use is manufactured
>Celestia shows you a drawing of Glaurumat's Mind, which looks like a crude, rocky looking brain
>Using Glaurumat's Mind as a container, it holds within it Harmony generated by the peace between dragons and ponies
>Using the Harmony within Glaurumat's Mind, they can extract it and forge the Chains of Harmony
>While the extraction of Harmony does put the city at risk of falling, this is the reason that they extract it slowly to prevent that
>This is why the spell to forge the chains takes so long
>You ask Celestia to tell you a bit more about the Nightmare Moon incident and she does, but not much beyond how Luna became that way and that Celestia did what she could to save her, imprisoning Nightmare Moon in the process
>Celestia is tired and sends you off back to your room

 No.635266

>Making one final stop at Luna's bedroom, the two of you have a brief conversation about your feelings for each other before making love and falling asleep side by side

You're awoken by the morning sun that warms your face. Not ready to open your eyes just yet, you feel around for Luna but find that she's no longer in the bed with you. Calling out for her, you receive no answer, and finally ride from the comfort of the bed and open your eyes. You're alone and there's a note on the nightstand next to you.

"Celestia and I begin the forging of the Chains this morning," it says. "How I wish I could have woken with you, but you're sleeping face was enough to fill me with a happiness I have not felt in over one thousand years. I will arrange for Lucent to bring you to the Skull should you wish to see me again, with strict instructions not to wake you. As she is your closest companion, I would not be offended if you wished to tell her of our night together. By my troth, I long to shout our love to the world over. I hope to see you soon. Luna."

After getting dressed, you think about setting out to find Lucent. Among your things, you realize you still haven't given Luna her gift and still have to talk to Starswirl about the Harmonyllium. You can always just call out to him if you need to. There's also a chance he might be at the Skull with Luna and Celestia. Either way, studying with him, hanging out with Lucent, and figuring out what to do with this Harmonyllium give you plenty to keep you occupied while the Chains are being forged. You just hope they haven't started without you.

>Celestia - Good Friends
Oh man, I completely missed that the last time, we got a friendship upgrade with Celestia.

I've also been thinking, since
>Harmonyllium tends to reflect the use of whatever it's made into
is one of Harmonyllium's effects, we could probably ask for marquetry on our weapon, shield or armor made out of it.

>I will arrange for Lucent to bring you to the Skull should you wish to see me again, with strict instructions not to wake you

>with strict instructions not to wake you
Well I guess that means Lucent already knows where we are and thus what we did. That could be kinda awkward.

If we can decide on what we want to do with our Harmonyllium, I would go to Star Swirl first, else just find Lucent and ask her if she can bring us to Luna and Celestia.

With everything gathered up, you make your way outside the bedroom. You can always contact Starswirl once you figure out what you want to do with the Harmonyllium, so finding Lucent and getting to the Skull is priority one.

You open the bedroom door and Lucent is standing before you in full armor. She's smiling, but her eyes are avoiding you.

"Direct order from the princess herself," Lucent says, standing at a attention for a moment before falling back into her natural posture. "She felt pretty bad about having to leave you by yourself."

As she finishes, you feel the ground quake beneath your feet. The city must be shifting from the spell.

"It won't," Lucent answers. "But there's bound to be a bit of turbulence to start things up. Should be a smooth descent from here on out."

Sure enough, as you walk through the palace, you can't sense anything out of place aside from the first major shift. If you pay close enough attention, however, you can hear a soft hum and feel a light vibration in the floor. Lucent smiles as she watches you inspect everything.

"I've got a good feeling about this," Lucent says, keeping her eyes ahead. "Luna and Celestia looked more determined and happy than I've seen them in a while. You probably had something to do with that I imagine?"

"I kinda figured that was the deal when I found out you were in there with her," she says. "No one else but me knows, so you don't have to worry about anyone else finding out."

Lucent leads you into a grand hall with a throne the size of a mansion. Behind the throne is a large door that's already been opened for you. Standing in front of the throne is Pierce.

"What a pleasure to know that on such an important day as this," he says, spread outing his arms, "we can count on the Princess' special guest to be snoozing away the day."

"Lay off charcoal breath," Lucent snaps. "It's not like he needs to be here for the spell."

"True enough," Pierce says, grimacing at Lucent's show of defiance. "He doesn't need to be here at all, but princess Luna has requested you be at her side for at least a few moments so that you may see the forging of the chains in action. This way, please."

Pierce swings his arms towards the door behind him and nods towards a small motorized carriage on a rail along the side of a massive flight of stairs.

"This will lead us down into Glaurumat's Skull," Pierce informs you. "It tends to go rather quickly, so please restrain yourself for safety purposes."

You, Lucent, and Pierce, set yourselves into the carriage and strap yourselves into your seats. Pierce tugs on a lever attached to the roof and the carriage takes off. The ride is as fast as you imagine. Lights blur from outside the carriage windows but there's not much to see in the tunnel. The ride is smooth, with the exception of one sharp turn that makes you a little sick to your stomach, and the carriage comes to a stop in a small room of white marble.

Dark, jagged stalagmites rise up from outside of the marble, and another door opens up into a chamber ahead. Inside, you can the glowing white light coming off of a smooth, black rock with grooves running along its surface and strains of blood red set deep within the rock itself.

"This is Glaurumat's Skull," Pierce tells you. "At least what we've done with it. Come. The princesses and the Elements of Harmony are inside."

Following Pierce with Lucent close behind, you enter the Skull and are greeted with sweltering hit from a forge near the back. Behind the forge is another door. This one of black marble suspended in the white wall, a dark, unopened oval. Princess Celestia and Luna are standing on raised platforms on the left and right sides of the brain respectively with the Elements of Harmony standing in the middle beneath the rock.

Now that you can see it as a whole, it resembles the brain that Celestia drew for you last night.

"I'll be waiting for you when you're done here," Lucent says. "Luna pretty much made me your personal guard since she can't be around so much."

Giving a short wave to Celestia, you make your way over to Luna. Both of the princesses have their wings spread out and their horns alight with magic. In the center, beneath Glaurumat's Mind, each of the Elements of Harmony are settled around the purple one, Twilight, at the center. She seems to be standing in much the same way as the princesses, but while Luna and Celestia are also facing her, Twilight has her horn directed at the forge. Two bright lights are connected to her: one from the Mind and into her horn, the other from her horn and towards the forge where Thorn is working with Gold Heart. Luna and Celestia's magic seems to be powering the platform that all of this is taking place on.

"Hello," Luna greets you as you approach her. "Forgive me if I lack the proper ability to speak. This spell requires much of my power and focus."

Everyone seems to be concerned with what their doing, Lucent walking over to visit with Thorn and Gold Heart. It seems you and Luna have a little bit of privacy at least. Luna seems to take note of this as well and leans forward to kiss you. There's a slight energy fluctuation and the ground shifts with another quake. "How much longer do you think the forging will take?" you ask.

"On this day," Luna answers, "until tonight. But as I have mentioned, I will retire early thanks to a certain someone. It is important I rest as much as I can for the forging. Lucent will watch over you while I am occupied."

The hammer slams down again.

"I'm glad to see that the person who holds your heart was worthy of it at least," Gold Heart says.

With each strike of the hammer, you see the light begin to dim and fade into the metallic form of Harmonyllium. As the light dims, it passes through Thorn's fire and he shapes it into the massive links that will form the Chains of Harmony.

"When the Mind was first used for the forging of the chains," Gold Heart explains as she continues hammering the Harmonyllium, "The Elements of Harmony weren't the six ponies you see in the center. They used to just be stones. Those stones were placed in the center and their magic was used to draw out the Harmony within Glaurumat's mind. Celestia and Luna weren't strong enough to activate the spell by themselves, so they worked together to power the Elements."

"The princesses always look so young that I forget how old they are," Lucent admits.

"With the Harmonyllium extracted," Gold Heart continues, "it needed to be forged into something that would hold Tiamat indefinitely. Many types of imprisonment were suggested but chains were settled upon after a pony blacksmith and his dragon assistant proved their work to be the strongest at holding dragons in general."

Gold Heart stops to pick up a canteen next to her and take a long drink. The canteen comes away from her lips with loud gasp and she picks her hammer right back up.

"There was nothing special about the blacksmith or this dragon," Gold Heart says with another strike, "but the princesses believed that the symbol of the two working together would resonate with the Elements of Harmony and make the chains that much stronger. These two eventually became the first ambassadors of Taloran and the station has been occupied by a dragon and a pony every since."

"Bound by friendship," Thorn speaks, bending a chain into place. "A bond out enemies will never break."

"Whether Thorn and I actually do anything any other pony and dragon pair could do," Gold Heart says and shakes her head, "I don't know, but this is my duty to the citizens of Taloran, and I'll do it to the best of my ability."

"Princess," Pierce calls out to Luna and Celestia. "We must close the gate before Tiamat breaches again. It is the only way to gain more time."

Luna and Celestia both nod and redirect their magic from the Elements of Harmony to the gate. The darkness of the gate brightens once more as the marble solidifies. The white lines creep back into place and the gate is closed once more.

Soldiers are gathering themselves together while the princesses and the Elements of Harmony help. Luna runs to your side first, helping you up with tears in her eyes. Lucent is gone, but you don't see her body at all.

"There is no doubt of that," Pierce says. "She is lost to us now and there's nothing more we can do but continue forging."

"Have you no heart?" Luna shouts, her face inches from Pierces now.

Luna's wings are spread and her eyes are glowing white with magic. Pierce is baring his teeth back at her, but he's leaning away from her, not toward her. Celestia frowns at her sister and steps between them.

"Calm yourself," Celestia says. "Pierce is only thinking of saving Taloran. There is nothing we can do for Lucent now."

"Pierce," Celestia raises her voice. "Take the guards and leave us. Tiamat has been held back for the moment. My sister and I will continue forging the chains."

Pierce stares at her for a moment, bows, and takes his leave with the guards following close behind. Thorn and Gold Heart close the doors to the Skull behind them and wait at the door, talking to themselves.

"I'll leave you two to discuss things," Celestia says to you and Luna. "Make your decisions quickly. Pierce is right. We can't waste time forging the Chains of Harmony now that we know Tiamat can escape."

A small bit of magic from Celestia's horn encases you a small yellowish bubble.

Well, we can either promise Luna that we will return and then go after Lucent which might end horribly for us since I do not think we can beat Tiamat on our own and just one failed roll would probably ruin a stealth approach

Or we give in to Luna's pleas and decide to wait for the chains to be finished - which will take another three days and by then Lucent might be dead.

How long is "a bit"?

 No.637018

Thinking a bit on what might happen, let's say we go in, and it's not hard to find Tiamat. It's not like she'll hand her over of course, since she believes that everything belongs to her in the first place, but we do know that she's interested in us. A "You stay here and be my new toy and I'll let her consider letting her go" situation seems like it could happen.. maybe. That would really not be a good situation to be in, and I'm sure much worse could probably happen as well.

 No.637019

>>637018
I really only see us having a chance if we somehow managed to avoid detection through magic and free Lucent that way - so, making us invisible, silent and so on. Though I'm not entirely sure if that would work, Tiamat is immune to magic and maybe she could see through invisibility spells.
Another option would be to fall asleep as soon as possible and hope that she will invade our dream and 'negotiate' about it with us, which would give us at least some more information.

 No.637020

I'd be cool with hoping she invades our dreams. There are three days left before the chains are completed, maybe if nothing terrible happened to Lucent right away that could work

Not really I think - at most we could spy a bit for the Princesses and find out what Tiamat is currently up to and if she has allies.
I wonder if our Harmonyllium could help us with this in some way.

 No.637023

I would say right now we have three options:

1. Go right after her and try to free Lucent somehow, which seems a bit suicidal

2. Go to sleep and try to contact Tiamat and get some information out of her - if Lucent is not in immediate danger we also don't have to do something stupid

3. Call Star Swirl and ask him if he has any idea how we could utilize our Harmonyllium to save her.

It would also be useful to find out if Tiamat is only immune to magic that is aimed directly at her or can also see through spells that do not directly target her. Since she's more or less chained by magic I assume its only against stuff that directly targets her, which would increase our chances to succeed with option 1.

 No.637024

I'm out for today.
My vote goes for asking Luna to put us to sleep and monitor our dream - if we can't reach Tiamat and she also doesn't show up within a reasonable time Luna wakes us up again and we make something useful out of the Harmonyllium before we follow Lucent into Tartarus.

"There might be another option where I don't have to put myself at risk right away… remember how Tiamat used to taunt me in my dreams? She knew I'm special in some way and thus wants me as toy, maybe if you put me to sleep through a spell she will contact me again and say what she plans to do with Lucent.

"If that is what you think will be best, I will accompany you," Luna says, then glances at the gates. "However, we must hurry. If Tiamat can breach the gates, then we have less time than we thought."

Luna's horn begins to glow with magic and a cool feeling washes over your head. You feel your consciousness fading fast, though your body doesn't feel tired at all. Darkness takes your vision and the world slips away from beneath your feet. There's a soft collision with something and when you open your eyes, you're lying in a large pile of Luna's feathers. The hand that touched you is covered in a decorative gauntlet that ends in sharp black claws extending from her fingertips.
