You are Rusty Shackleford, a human who has found himself in Equestria with no memory of himself or his past.

Currently, you are face down in the dirt while the Carrousel Boutique is burning a few feet away. By all accounts, you are dead to the world.

You begin to drift off, further into unconsciousness. Soon enough, you begin to dream...

You're huddled next to a small fire, with two other people. You've all been arguing for some time.

"I'm telling you," Your friend goes on for the millionth time. "We. Don't. Have. A. Choice. We're going to run out of air eventually."

"And I'm telling YOU," you start up yet again. "It's not safe. We have no idea what's out there, or even why this is happening!"

"That's not completely true," The other person of your little group pipes up, spreading down a hand drawn map. It's a little crude, but seems like its to scale.

"Where'd you get that?"

"I made it."

"Since when can you draw maps?" You ask.

"I could always draw maps. You never asked."

"You, my friend" You say a matter of factually and pointing. "Are a huge faggot."

"And you're an ass."

"Guys guys," Your other friend interject, trying to keep the peace. "This isn’t helping."

"You're right." You concede, and take a look at the map. The map maker explains that we're in the center. Just north is a very large mountain, with a river going south from it. Most of the area seems to be heavily forested, but it clears out a little to the east some.

"I was out there for an hour or so." The map maker says again. "It's not safe out there. There’s a lot of... animals. Wild animals."

"OK then." You say, thinking hard. "This gives us options. Do we stay or do we see try our luck on the outside?"

"As I just said, we can't stay." Your friend says again. "It's just a matter of time before we either suffocate or something kills us."

"I guess you guys are right," You say, getting up and brushing yourself off. "Lead on, faggot."

"If you call me that one more time, I'm goin-"

The faggot is interrupted as there’s a loud buzzing sound, followed by the room lighting up. You're all momentarily blinded by the sudden brightness. You're in a very large room, with lots of very large and heavy looking crates stacked up high along all the walls.

"What?" You're friend says. "Someone managed to restore power?"

"See, what did I tell you?" You gloat. "The safe thing to do is stay put. Things will be fine."

A very loud, high pitched laugh echoes around the area, bouncing off the walls and ringing in your ears, making you feel very uncomfortable.

"...or maybe not."

The three of you make your way out of the store room and go down a side passage. All the lights are on now, which makes no sense. Everything had been dead for the last few days. That laughter keeps taunting you, echoing around from seemingly everywhere. Eventually, you come to an intersection.

"OK, if I remember correctly," Faggot says, pointing down the left way. "That is the way I went, up to the air shaft. But since the power is back on, we can probably go the other way, to the main entrance. What do you guys think?"

"What do you guys think the chances are the power will go out again?"

"Well, considering we still don’t know why it went out in the first place," You friend says, the mysterious laughter growing louder. "Besides, I doubt who ever finds things so funny is doing us any favors."

"How safe is it to go out the main way?"

"Pretty safe, I should say, " Faggot says. "Main security is down that way. We can find help now that the power is on. The vent is a tight squeeze anyway."

He seems to have made up his mind is already heading down that way.

You follow along, letting Faggot take the lead. You don't feel comfortable, whatever is going on and would rather let him take the brunt of whatever happens. Besides, you're not very familiar with this area anyway. It doesn’t take long for the before you come to the familiar site of a security station.

"See, told you."

"It's empty," You point out. "No one is here."

"Sure there is," Your friend says, going in. "Hello? Anyone here? Hello! Is anyo-what the?"

"What is it?" You say from outside.

"It's... looks like... I think it's a pony."

“A pony?”

"A pony. You know, a little horse."

"I know what a pony is." You say, taking a look inside from one of the safety windows. Sure enough, there’s a small, oddly bright blue pony in there, with its back to the three of you, sitting in front of a powered on console. "Why is there a pony here?"

"Shh! You'll scare it." Faggot says, inching close to it.

"Hey girl. Shhh. Easy, easy." Faggot says, cautiously inching to the pony from behind.

"What are you doing?" You say.

"What? Ponies are cute."

"No, they're not, you faggot. They're smell like shit and they kick. Can we just go? Who cares why there’s a pony here?"

"Shhhh, you'll scare it." Faggot shushes you, waving his hand at you. "C'mere girl. You're OK, you're a good pony."

That crazy laugh echoes across the hall again, louder then ever. Something dawns on you.

"Wait, aren’t all those consoles hooked up to the PA system?" You put two and two together. "Is... is it the pony that’s laughing?"

Just as you come to that realization, Faggot reaches the pony. He pets its mane gently, saying more soothing things. It then turns to face him. You can see its has a horn, like a mythical unicorn. And it has a crazy, manic look on its face, in a way you couldn’t think a horse could make. It lets out another manic laugh and slams a hoof down on the console.

The heavy security door slams down, separating you from Faggot and your friend who are inside with the pony. You quickly try the door, but it's sealed tight and is so heavy it would probably stop a bulldozer. You can hear someone else pounding on the other side.

As you keep at the door, the lights go off and the red spiraling security light comes on with an alarm. In the panic, you try the window, but it's even more sealed. Between flashes of red light, you see something splash against the window. Its seems a lot... oh no.

Oh no oh no oh no!

You start running, back the way you came. You should have gone to the vent, the vent was safer why did you come here oh no. You run as fast as you can, trip, get up and run more. You turn back down the intersection you were at and head to where you think the vent is.

Something hits you from behind. You fall, hitting your head on the wall. There’s something on top of you. You turn on your back. You can't see in the safety lights. It's scratching you.

You struggle, in the dark and the panic. You do everything you can to keep it off you.

"Rusty."

It's holding you down and it keeps scratching at you. It's too strong.

"Rusty wake up!"

The scene changes. You're outside, the sun shining. Standing over you is Applejack, looking down at you with a concerned look. You can smell burning wood in the air.

"I... what?"

"You were havin' a bad dream, sugarcube." She pats you on the head and pulls a blanket that’s on you a little higher up. It's covered in white hairs "We're fighting with Rarity's cat in your sleep." vYou look over to your side. There's a funny looking white cat, lounging in the shade of a badly burned Carousel Boutique, licking its paws. It sees you looking at it and lets out an angry his and struts off with a snobbish swagger.

You immediately throw out a hundred questions at Applejack.

"What happened?! How Sweetie? And Rarity? And Rainbow Dash? And the fire? And th-"

"Easy now!" Applejack says, sticking her hoof in your mouth. "You had a bad fall on your head, Rusty. Go easy, we didn’t want to move you. The fire is out. Those whisps left hours ago. And the others are going to be OK, thanks to you Rusty. You're proving yourself to be a real hero round here."

You take the hoof out of your mouth.

"Did Twilight, or anyone else, ever find out what those glowing orbs were or where they came from?"

"Mmmhhmm," Applejack nods. "Twilight hit the books when things were taken care of. Says they're somethin' called Will-o-Whisps. Cause fires just by touching things. Still not sure why came to town, though. You'd have to ask Twilight."

"Huh." You mull this over. "Oh, by the way. This might sound, but I had a really strange dream."

"I bet."

"Yeah. But it had this pony in it. Do you know any ponies that are all blue, sorta blue mane?"

"Hmmm," Applejack hums, look at you oddly. "Ah know a few ponies that look like that. Dash is blue, but has that mane. Did you see their cutie mark? That’s a sure fire way to know who’s who."

"No, I don’t think I did... or I don’t remember." Your stomach gurgles in protest. "Uh, is there anything for breakfast? I'm starving."

"Sure thing! Think you can walk?"

"Yeah, I could eat a hor-" You say, but as you sit up, you're hit by vertigo and fall to your side. Applejack kneels to your side. Everything is spinning. "Or...not."

"You OK Rusty?"

"Yeah yeah," You say, getting your barrings again. "Just need a second."

"Maybe you shouldn’t push it. You did hit your head pretty bad."

"No no, I'm OK." You say, forcing yourself to sit up again. Struggling a little, you're able to set the blanket to the side and stand on your feet, albeit little wobbly. "Yeah, I'm good."

"Well... alright. Let's get some grub. It's about lunch time, so we might find the others too."

You start to follow Applejack, but as soon as you take one step forward, the vertigo hits you again. Everything spins and you feel your head bang on the ground just before passing out again.
