BraeburnQuest, in which anon is a western woman with a gun, living the life of a deputy in Dodge Junction.

Info - goo gl/035do
Archive - goo gl/9Nj0YN

Last time, Cherry Girl and Braeburn were facing down Red Eye's Diamond Dogs in the middle of town as Red Eye moved in for a hostile takeover. Braeburn was humiliated by the enigmatic Chief when his fake marshal's badge was destroyed, and the Red Eyes have revealed themselves to be in possession of powerful magitech, including wands and crystal-powered flying machines.

The Chief has just departed for town hall, leaving you to face off against the Stranger and four goons.

Braeburn is standing next to you, across the yard. There are walkways awnings on all four sides, littered with various crates, boxes, and wagons (it's where the salt lick's supplies come in), so you should have a goodly number of options in the fight that's about to ensue.

What do?

>> No.13060702

We need to get some cover and force them to come to ground if they're serious about fighting. Something to negate that aerial advantage.

I probably should handle rerolls to avoid confusion.

Out of 6+1 rolls, you had 4 successes.

You pull Braeburn by the collar of his coat and manage to drag him out of harm's way as the dogs draw out their wands—spindly, twiggy things that look more like random branches wrapped in magic bindings. The sudden concussive blasts wash the area in light and sound, and you end up diving into the dirt behind some empty boxes with a marigold stallion on top of you. Braeburn is heavier than he looks!

The magic wands don't seem to throw fire or lightning or death rays, but Braeburn is no less bothered by their existence. "Ah thought only unicorns could cast spells!"

The Stranger barks to his comrades. "Split up and move in, we got 'em cornered!"

Any bright ideas?

Out of 6+3 rolls, you had 4 successes!

Pushing Braeburn off of you, you quickly whip around the boxes to your left and tap the masher, pegging a dog in the head. He's KO'd for sure, spinning around from the force of the hit and falling over in the dust as his partner runs for cover behind a wagon.

Your masher has 3 of 6 shots left.

It seems the Stranger's coming down the center between barrels and crates, with the other pair of dogs coming around your right side. The pair to the right take some potshots at you, sending a few lamps and wood shingles flying around you in a shower of sparks.

Ducking behind cover again, you see Braeburn struggling to take his coat off.

You can try and help him with that, or try to drag him along again, or ditch him for a better vantage point either outdoors or indoors. Or keep firing.

>> No.13062529

You quickly move out to a nearby trough to the right, closer to the pair on the right but getting a little distance away from the others. Braeburn is behind the crates, still struggling with whatever he's got under there. Assume it's a weapon.

Another powerful flash and the smell of cinder obliterates the space in front of you as the Stranger looses a bolt from his wand. That one smelled of something lethal. The trough was barely enough to cover you when crouching, and now it's barely enough to cover you at all.

"Don't make me come over there and beat you, woman! There's no point in fighting us, we got this whole town outgunned and outnumbered."

"Psst, hey Deputy! Get him out in the open, could you?" Braeburn shouts at you, not understanding the idea of subtlety. You're close enough to the right pair to see them shaking their heads behind cover.

There's not enough trough left to do much of anything, and it's obviously not hardy enough to stand up to the heat those wands are packing.

...

There are all kinds of objects and obstacles out in the yard, though, and you might try your hand at using those to your advantage. What would you like to look for?

Either that or exposing yourself to fire as a good old fashioned distraction. If you're running and gunning, that would be an Arms roll to land your shots and reload while in motion. If you're playing it safe, that would be Cover to move between safe spots while remaining visible.

Out of 5 rolls, you had 4 successes.

You carefully line up your shot and aim for the barrels, hitting the bar just so and sending the entire mass tumbling down into the yard. The two dogs nearby are engulfed in the ensuing rubble, and the rest of the heavy barrels spill out into the clearing, forcing the Stranger out of his cover!

Braeburn finally rips his coat off and pops up over the crates, a clockwork contraption winding up on his back as a saddle-mounted frierarm clicks into place over his withers. With a clear shot at the Stranger, the massive gun loads up a whole potato and fires.

"SPUDGUN RHINOPLASTY!"
The force of the tuber projectile completely obliterates the hot starch all over the Stranger's chest, sending even a big dog like him reeling backward for several meters with the wind knocked out of him. The last dog turns tail and flees down the alley at such a sight.

When you look back to Braeburn, you find him turned over upside down past a broken railing the recoil apparently too much for him to handle. "Did any pony get the number of that truck?"

With these thugs cleared out, your next objective is to collect yourselves and get to the town hall to see what Red Eye is planning.
